We don’t go for dim sum very often but when we do, here are a few staples we always get no matter where we go! Mother deer usually goes to Van Dragon but we weren’t in the area. So, we decided to go to Happy Valley Seafood restaurant instead. All I remember when I come here is how it used to be a Ricky’s and we would go there for pancakes! Oh childhood.
This place is usually very full whenever we try to come here, especially during weekends. We came here on Friday around 11am, and luckily, there were a couple parking spots and a few empty tables. Ordered a few dim sum dishes. The rice rolls with scallops was pretty good. Others were reasonable as well
Very good dim sum. The bean curd wraps have an irresistible flavour that will explode in your mouth. The beef balls are much softer than can usually be found in dim sum restaurants.
I went there today and today is Friday; it was busy and we barely got a table without waiting. This being the case, I cannot in good faith recommend coming here on the weekends unless you are prepared to line up outside (there being scant seating for people who are waiting for a table).
Some unique dishes are available here. Great deals for dinner Monday to Friday. Tried both the dinner and dim sum. Dim sum is 20% off if you pay ur bill before 11:00. Service is great. The managers are super friendly and don’t push you to over order. Definitely be back soon.
This is one of our preferred dim sum spots. Food is very tasty and portions are big. We have also eaten the ten course meal for dinner and the food was just as good. If you come early enough you will get a discount off the dim sum, and for a Chinese restaurant the service is actually quite good. We would recommend and would return
Happy Valley Seafood Restaurant is located on Lougheed Highway, and it is very close to Mercedes-Benz on Boundary. It has own parking lot in addition to street parking, but it is not convenience to go by transit.
We drove by this restaurant on occasion, and we always wanted to try it. We came on a late lunch, and it was half full.
The service was reasonable. The food was decent, and the portions were good size for the price.

Happily surprised at the quality of food. Pretty large portions justify the slightly higher ($5+ per dish) than regular dim sum prices. Super busy place.
Solid dim sum. Everything we ordered was very good. Average price. Came up to 40$ including tax and tip for two for dim sum with a bit of leftover. Har gao wrapping was a bit thick, but overall tasty. Fish congee yum. Egg tarts really good. Will definitely be back.
Bottom line: There were some solid dishes at Happy Valley Seafood Restaurant. The highlights for me was the short ribs, siu mai, egg tart, sesame ball, and deep fried radish cakes. Those should be your must orders based on how amazed I was. Skip the tendon and shrimp spring rolls. . Out the door price: Parents paid for Thanksgiving lunch so unknown...
Really good dim sum here. Good variety. More on the expensive side but worth the price. It gets really busy here so it's best to come early before lunch. Reservations isn't a problem either.
Service takes a long time but that is to be expected on a Saturday morning just before noon. The place was full to max and like any good Asian dim sum place the guests are chattering and laughing. Food is great here and service is not as bad as some lead you to believe.
My in laws picked this restaurant for dim sum to celebrate my mother in laws birthday. I like the fried noodles, deep fried tofu, and rice roll with chinese donut. Rest I didn't eat but I was told its good. All those cost total of $70. Its not bad.

My dad invited my girlfriend and I here. I really didn't want to come here, but he insisted. I'm actually glad I did come. The service this time around was much better then my last. The only thing that happened was they forgot our special item dim sum "twice." After waiting 45 minutes, we decided to leave. Our bellies settled in and we felt full enough. It was still a better experience. I don't recognize any of the previous servers. They must have done more hiring.

If your wondering about the dim sum quality here, I can tell you it's good. But the service of the front house is a SERIOUS mood killer. Servers and managers ignore you when your just wanting more hot water, hot sauce, or a extra pair of chop sticks. And while I'm eating they continually ask how long we will be because the line up is long. Come on seriously? I hate being rushed like that, especially when your bill comes out to 180 bucks. I didn't tip and one of the managers ran to the parking lot demanding for a 10% tip. I scolded her about our service and she didn't say anything back. It's a very rude and disorganized staff with disgusting behavior.
Not coming back, should've stuck with Western lake on Victoria drive.
Been awhile since I have been here and have forgotten how decent this place is. Parking is a bit awkward but food is decent with good portions. Went for my husband's birthday with the family and was stuffed!! Chicken with Chinese wine was juicy and soft. We got 2 buckets of the beef ribs and the sauce was delish..although the ribs of one bucket was more tender than the other. Szhezuan green beans were tasty..plump and crunchy with a little kick of spice. Service was a little lacking but we were in no rush. Hear dim sum is 20% off before 11am and 10% after. Great dim sum portions!
Some of the best dim sum I've had. The egg yolk dumplings are a must. Staff doesn't have time to chat so focus on eating! Get there early or be prepared to wait.
ate here during the weekend afternoon, it was packed i'll say, and in terms of the food it's what I've expected, it's all good and tasty as well. price wise it's pricy as usual, the same with other dim sum places. The taste of the food it's definitely good. I like dimsum in general and this one is definitely good, the rating definitely reflects much of the food that is served.
I do recommend this place, however it's a little bit far for public transport, but definitely good food no doubt.

I'd only come here for the dim sum! The portion size is very good in comparison to the other places I've tried in Richmond. The food is authentic and the customer service isn't horrible for a Chinese restaurant. The parking is a hassle during peak hours. I've visited during dinner service, but I wasn't impressed with the food. The menu has a nice variety, but some dishes ended up tasting the same. Overall just a mediocre experience for the pricetag.

One of the best places for Dim Sum. Invited some of my guests here for Dim Sum, we had to wait for 20 minutes for the table( which is always a good sign) me and my guests we delighted by the service and the quality of food.

My new favourite!. Me and the partner found our new dimsum heaven! And this is it. I read other reviews and I have to agree that there are few grumpy pants working. But we mostly go on not so busy weekday morning times for brunch. Most servers are friendly and food.. Oh my god the food.. Try Chinese donut wrapped in rice roll, fried egg plant and short ribs. Some servers have friendly neighborhood mom feel to them that I absolutely love.

Dim sum and service are pretty decent here. The Gai Lan and soya fried noodles particularly, as well as the steam dishes were generously portioned. Parking is limited, so try to grab street parking on Lougheed. Prices are fare for what you get. The ambience and service are decent as well. Our group ended up taking a lot of food home to feed our families!
Dim Sum on Christmas Day. The place was packed when we got there so the wait was around under an hour.
Service was good, there were a few hiccups but were rectified after we inquired about it.

Always a good choice. I normally frequent this restaurant for dim sum and it never disappoints. A couple of nights ago I went in for dinner and was pleasantly surprised at how delcious the food was. So fortunately I had a great dinner experiene unlike others who have posted here. I'd definitely be willing to come back and eat here again. Oh and the deep fried squid with pepper and salt was the best I've had!
The hunt may be over. Over the summer we have been trying to find a dim sum place that will get you full and tastes great for $10 per person. This may the one.
We've been to probably close to 10 dim sum places in East van. This place offers really good service. We had our teapot refilled within 20 seconds of lifting the lid.
The food always came steaming hot. The eggplant was good, the siu mai was good, deep fried squid was good, spring rolls also.
the sticky rice wasn't bad and the ha gow wasn't bad. only thing i wish was the ha gow skin was thinner and less doughy.

Make reservation if going at busy time. We keep coming back. This is one of the best dim sum around. Every time we are in Vancouver, this is one of our MUST eat at for dim sum. It can be a very busy restaurant, I highly recommend a reservation so you won't be disappointed. Judging from the packed restaurant, other people agree with me too.
Very good food and decent service. Visited this place the other day, with no expectations. That's how you should approach Chinese restaurants in general, especially ones that you are visiting for the first time.
I was somewhat surprised at how the place was decently clean, and neat. The service was pretty good for a Chinese restaurant, with a waiter who was fluent in English, and was well mannered.
The food arrived, and I was impressed. The dishes were largely portioned and well presented. The food had excellent flavor, and it was obvious that it was prepared with care and attention. They must have real chefs working there. This was hands down one of THE best Chinese restaurants I have ever been too. And I have been too many! Keep it up HVSR!
Alright food.. The food tonight was pretty good. The pork belly and taro root tasted good but nothing else really stood out. The red bean dessert and tapioca-like pudding were also tasty. Even with only three tables occupied, each dish took extended periods of time to arrive.
Honestly I have nothing particular to say about Happy Valley restaurant. It's just another good Chinese restaurant in the midst of many good Chinese restaurants. Note: be aware that they are heavy-handed when it comes to MSG.
Very consistent!. Have gone to HVSR numerous times and have found the food quality consistent.Would recommend trying the beef brisket and rice rolls! Oily, but very tasty! The eggplant with shrimp paste/puree is also better than a lot of other dim sum places!

This place is quite popular with the locals for dim sum and usually has a lineup! The portion sizes are large and the prices are relatively cheap! teamed Mo Qua w/ Dried Scallop 4/5 stars I love mo qua so I had to order it! Mo Qua is basically chinese melon, which is used a lot in Chinese cooking! This particular dish had shrimp paste on top, similar in texture to har gow. Dim sum is something I don’t often get to partake in. Mostly because I choose not to wake early enough to take advantage of the brunching hour. So on my day off I took my parents up on their offer for dim sum. Dim sum is the Chinese equivalent to tapas, small share style plates meant to give diners a taste of everything. Because there is just something so wonderful about being surrounded by a bounty of food, and being able to pick out only that which you want to eat. We chose this destination out of convenience. A Chinese restaurant in the middle of our two homes. Its easy destination and ample free parking was as good enough of a reason to dine here. The parking lot in front was shared with a neighbouring small car garage. Its stock seemed to spill over in the form of abandoned empty husks of vehicles. This took up some crucial room right in front of the building, creating an eyesore and taking up space better used for customer vehicles. As a result of insufficient stalls patrons opted for more creative solutions. Cars in disarray: some blocked others in and any free corner had a car adjacent, but most had to park road side forcing guests to trekked in. It was busy this Remembrance Day, even at 11am the place was already packed, luckily we had made a reservation and had a table waiting. We by passed all the other guests standing by the front. This gathering blocked the entrance, created unsightly clutter, and invaded the personal bubble of those seated at the tables adjacent. The room was packed with Chinese and Chinese blended families. The host sat us without a word. He along with the servers were dressed in uniform. Suit and ties for the managers and white tops with black pants and a patterned vest for the wait staff. Everyone was working at their top speed. So quick that their movements were abrupt. Tables got bussed quickly, with the goal to improve turn around time. I’ve been to this restaurant for lunch with my company several times. Every time, it’s always good food. They’re very consistent, and so far, I have no complaints about this restaurant. It’s cleaner than some of the Chinese restaurants I’ve been. The plates are inexpensive for the portion, and they taste delicious!!! The interior is mostly clean, and they change the cloth on the tables for each customer like higher-end restaurants do. My only issue is that they’re catered to Chinese customers, meaning their menu are mainly in Chinese, with brief English written in small type. But I guess you can get by it, so not a huge problem. Since it’s important to cover a variety of food joints for a variety of occasions, I’ve decided to write a review on a recent wedding banquet I went to…so here it is in all of it’s MSG laden greatness, just kidding (or am I?) First off, we have what I call the “cold platter” (it’s just basically appetizers). It comes with Calamari, Roast Pork, and “Slaw” (it’s like melon and chicken mixed together…I’m not sure what to call it, lol). The calamari was very crunchy though it was a tad overly salty. The pork was very flavourful and juicy, though I really did not like the slaw. The sweetness of the melons and the savory taste of the chicken…it just didn’t do anything for me. The “next item up for bid” were crab claws. Although they were very fresh and crispy on the outside, flavour-wise, I found them to be a bit lacking. Happy Valley has become one of my favourite places for dim sum. I’ve been here quite a few times in the past year and their food quality has been quite consistent.
...I can’t believe we ate everything – and that it came to under $30 including tax and tea charge (at a very reasonable $0.80 per person)! I may not be a total convert to the non-push cart version of Dim Sum, but I was quite happy with our meal overall at Happy Valley.
