Love this place, Fabriz is an amazing baker and quite the character! Almond croissants melt in your mouth. I drive in from White Rock to go there.
Bref, ce n'est pas à rater ! You shouldn't miss this great boulangerie ! The owner is such a kind and friendly person! The atmosphere is so positive and engaging that I ended up staying there for five hours. I took the bus all the way from UBC and ça vaut vraiment le coup ! (It's totally worth it!) The croissants are very good and I also had the clam chowder which was excellent too with great fresh bread on the side!
J'y retournerai Fabrice ! Bonne continuation à vous !
Really liked this place! The owners are awesome, friednly, very cosy place.

Fabrice's breads and croissants are simply amazing! No wonder as he is the real deal straight from Paris. Come for the croissants but pick up one of their awesome sandwiches for later - my favorite is the Mousquetaire (with avocado). Also - great little play area for the kids...
Loveliest people, best chocolate cake ever ( except my grandma's)
the best mokka coffee!!!! ever! and guys are great :) One from Paris, second from Marceille
Best croissants and pains au chocolate in Vancouver! Meilleurs croissants et pains au chocolats de Vancouver!
This is a small French bakery located on Arbutus, near Broadway, offering breads, sandwiches and some rustic, homestyle pastries and desserts. I've sampled their Eclair, Chocolate Torte and Almond Torte, and enjoyed all of their desserts; my favourite is their chocolate torte. The prices are very reasonable and the staff quite friendly. Highly recommend checking this place out if you're in the neighbourhood.
Chocolate Torte ($3.95):
4.5/5
This consisted of a crispy crust filled with a chocolate mousse and topped wtih a layer of chocoalte ganache. The mousse was creamy, and the chocolate seemed to be of good quality and was not waxy. My favourite part was the crust however; it appears to be made up of some kind of cereal and had a wonderful crunch. This is a fantastic dessert, and I highly recommend it to any chocolate lovers.
Almond Torte ($3.90):
3.5/5
This consisted of a short-bread crust filled with almond paste and topped with pears and cherries. The crust was relatively tender and had a nice buttery flavour. The almond filling was creamy, fragrant and mildly sweet. The slices of pear were tender, but still had some texture while the cherries were bright and tart. I personally found the flavours to be a bit too mild for my liking, but it's probably a great option for those who prefer something less sweet.
Eclair ($3.95):
4/5
This was filled with a chocolate custard/pudding and glazed with melted chocolate. The amount of filling in this was very generous, and I got plenty in every bite. It was creamy and sweet, though not overly so. Once again, the chocolate glaze appears to be of good quality, and was not at all waxy.
My favourite cafe in the city! Smooth and rich coffee, and delicious inexpensive desserts ~ what more can you ask for! 😄 Creme brulee is my favourite! But the croissants and tarts are also very delicious! 😊
Phenomenal French bakery serving the best croissants in Vancouver! Very nice ie staff and authentically French. Hard to not stop by every day as I live just next door.
I absolutely adore this little French cafe. The great selection of freshly made soups and sandwiches is often overshadowed by the delicious array of pastries and other baked goods. This little shop has been a must-visit anytime I am in the Kitsilano area for the almond croissants. Although these types of croissants are prominently featured at most cafes these days (Matchstick, Thomas Haas, Bakery Sate all make their croissants very well), there's something so pure and authentic about the often imperfect little croissants here that create an experience that isn't so carbon-copy. For chocolate lovers the torte cake is a must-try. I have driven across the city on numerous occasions for this cake for birthdays, potlucks and cheat meals. It is delightful. When coupled with the SUPER charming owner (who my fiancée and I have affectionately nicknamed "Frenchie"... because he's French) and his equally charming staff, a visit here is never, ever a flavourless affair. I implore anyone in this neighbourhood to make this your go-to French bakery/cafe.
This is one of my favourite coffee and pastry shops in Vancouver. It's a classic traditional French bakery with delicious food, good coffee, and the best chocolate tort I have ever tasted in my life. The breads are great too, and everything is as fresh as could possibly be. The most poignant thing is the owner, Fabrice, who you can tell really cares about the place and the customers that visit. Rarely a week goes by that I don't visit here, and I recommend you do the same.
Amazing food and environment
Almond Croissants to die for.... We love the unpretentious atmosphere and Fabrice's booming voice greeting everyone by name. But best of all, we love every bakery item here, especially the Almond Croissants. An authentic French Bakery, you won't be disappointed to try anything here. We love the ham and brie sandwiches too. It is gigantic and the bread he makes for it is perfect....crispy and flaky on the outside and inside all soft and yielding.
Excellent service!. We love coming to this French cafe in our neighbourhood...the owner is a delight and has a great sense of humour. In addition, his sandwiches, soups and pastries are incredible. I especially love his almond croissants.
Best roast beef sandwich around. Come for anything delicious and French. The owner is quite a character always joking around.
A lovely café au lait, pillowy pain au raisin, and a part-flakey part-soft all-delicious pain au chocolat. Super friendly service with a relaxed atmosphere. Note kids' play area for the preschooler and up crowd (as I expected).
Lemon heaven. The most amazing lemon tart... not too sweet, not too much pastry and no fussy details, just a perfect shortbread-like crust with tangy lemon filling.
C'est manifique! True Parisian baking (and playful repartee) by true Parisians. Try everything.
My husband and i were strolling on Arbutus and came across the opening day of Plaisir Sucre. We tried their Almond croissant that day and since then we come here every week for their Mediterranean sandwich and other french sweets. On my bday, Fabrice (the owner) made me a special off menu chocolate cake that everyone loved!! It's our favorite little bakery and we love the friendly home like environment and everytime we go, it's always a warm welcome from the owner and his family
Just like heaven. Plaisir Sucre is a neighbourhood gem. It is a very convivial place where the owner always welcomes you with a smile... and sometimes even with a joke! What a pleasure to find a French bakery 100% authentic! Everything is made on site and with passion. No wonder the pastries are so delicious! Their croissants are the best in town! If you are looking for yummy French pastries and a good time, this is the place to go!
After reading the great reviews this little cafe was getting I decided to go this morning. Got a croissant and a coffee a slice of the chocolate torte to go. My goodness they were both delicious! The french owner was there and full of great personality. It's a wonderful little place. :)
Love the sandwiches. I've had the ham + brie and the salmon sandwiches. They are substantial with great bread and good amounts of ham+cheese or salmon. The owner is super friendly.
Good transition from Europe. My wife and I had just returned from three weeks rambling around Europe, including le vrai Paris, and our time schedules were messed up. Crashed at 10 PM Saturday, up at 5 Sunday morning. We wanted GOOD croissants to go with our AM coffee, ASAP, which is not easy to do at that hour on dimanche. Luckily, Plaisir Sucre opens at 0800. We popped over, got some regular croissants (unusual touch with some sweetness to the egg glazing on top) and croissants d'amande. They were first-rate, on par with most of the better croissants we had in Lyon, Montreux and other foodie European cities. I reckon we'll be back to Plaisir Sucre more often than we go back to the Continent, eh?
Kitsilano's little taste of heaven..... I first came to this little french cafe with a client to have a coffee and chat. Fabrice the owner, made us feel right at home. I came back on my own and have made this spot my weekly go to place where I am happily eating my way through the dessert counter. Everything in this shop is delish!
Mon plaisir!. I came across this bakery when I was craving a croissant. I was right across the street buying a croissant and a coffee from another French bakery when I happened to look out the window and noticed Plaisir Sucre. Since I don't live in the neighbourhood, I crossed the street to check out this new place. The owner was a typical charming Frenchman who greeted me with a smile and a "bonjour madame!". I took this opportunity to respond in French, and we had a nice little dialogue going. I absolutely HAD to try his croissants. And when I did, I thought I died and went to croissant heaven! These are the same treats that you buy in France, light, buttery, melt in your mouth goodness - the real deal! Fabrice told me that he's there at 3 in the morning like a real baker to get his goods ready for his patrons. I don't doubt it one instant. The only other treats I had tried are the almond croissants (thumbs up), and the fresh blueberry tarts for my son who can't stop raving about them - although there are so many other sweet pleasures to choose from. We will be back!
Un vrai trésor !!. I dropped by Plaisir Sucre and Fabrice, the owner, was one of the most welcoming people I have ever met. He's straight from Paris and this bakery is very family-friendly.
The croissants are light and unlike anything I have ever tried before. The cakes look delicious and you can actually try macarons without paying big bucks for them (like the bakery down at Granville Island).
The ambiance is very relaxing; it whisked me back to when I was in France as French TV was playing in the background, the smells of all the pastries swirled around the place...
A perfect place to pass a tranquil afternoon, to read a book...
I recommend this place to everyone!
It's ALL good!. I was one of the first customers when this place opened. I have tried just about everything and return repeatedly.
It's so great to have locally produced bakery products.
Best Croissants in Vancouver. Since this little bakery opened up a few doors down from our house croissants have become a weekend habit. The owner, Fabrice, moved here from France and runs the place with his family.
Last time we were in, we asked how business was going and he said it was good, saying "why should it not be? I do not cheat my customers by using margerine," I love the idea that using margerine is considered a reprehensible act.
My favourite: the Almond croissant, rich with butter, almond filling and toasted almonds on top. My partner loves the pain au raisin. They do chaussons aux pommes, pains aux chocolat, boules and many other authentic French pastries. Avoid the other french bakery across the road - it sadly does not live up to the new standard set by Plaisir Sucre.
4/5 Okay, you know the opening scene in Beauty and the Beast where Belle sings through this "provincial town" which is a small french village? Yes. Well, this bakery/cafe reminds me of that, in the best possible way. The owner is this wonderful, warm french man that is so hilarious and just overall super awesome. So so so SO lovely and funny. I bought a vegetarian sandwich on a baguette that was awesome (they warmed it up- Yum!) and a star anise cookie which was REALLY interesting. (I'm so used to having star anise with salty foods so this was quite a shock, and quite strong) My mom has also ordered catering and coffee from here and they are so nice and accomodating. Great people to chat with, great people to work with. Angel
On my third trip back to Plaisir Sucre, I chose chocolate for breakfast. A chocolate brioche with a cappuccino. Brioche demands generous egg and butter content to create a rich and tender crumb. If you haven't tried it before, s
Simple raspberry jam was sandwiched in the middle of the raspberry macaron, but I prefer the richness of a buttercream or ganache centre. The lemon macaron had a very fragrant citrus aroma, however it was very crunchy and seemed stale, or perhaps just over-baked. But the most dense out of the bunch was the vanilla flavour – it was really hard on the teeth, and most certainly old. My favourite out of the six available at Plaisir Sucre was the pistachio macaron. It was very soft, with just the right amount of buttercream in the middle and its almond meringue was perfectly sweet and creamy.
