Review Ebisu On Robson - Vancouver

Kind of a nostalgic spot that’s great for large groups. Stopped by for a birthday dinner and the food and service was fine but nothing to really rave about. Prices were a little higher than what I remembered but I guess that’s just the ways things are now! They also had those build your own drink with the carton drinks for $12.99.

A really good Sushi place in the heart of Robson Street. While they have some top notch sushi this side of the pacific, they offer much more than that. The unagi bowl we had was fantastic - with high quality eel. Oysters were fresh and delicious, and I recommend their truffle fries if you want a more western style appetizer. For those on a budget - definitely look into getting a bento box as you get a bit of everything without a big price.

Good food! Oysters @ happy hour was super good value. And fresh and delicious. The rest of the items we ordered were good too. That includes chicken karaage, takoyaki, clam sakamushi, Otoro sushi, inari sushi, yellowtail kama, and wagyu don. Pleasant service and enjoyable ambience.

Reasonably priced bento boxes during lunch. Nice staff and very friendly. I'd go back again and try their happy hour.

They got pretty good deal for happy hours 0.99 / oyster is to die for , it’s tasty and fresh , the limit is 12 pcs per person , unlike Richmond location only can order up to 6 pcs per person ( thumbs down 👎🏻) , they have pretty good sushi as well !

Good happy hour menu. But the portion is a little small Generally nice place to have dinner

I went here for the first time. It was good but the portions were quite small. We came for oysters for happy hour but they didn’t have it so that was disappointing. Make sure to call beforehand before coming to ensure that they have oysters for happy hour. We asked a couple of times whether they would be getting shipment but they didn’t. One of the lady servers wasn’t really nice about it when we asked. The food also took quite long. We only ordered three dishes from the happy hour menu and it took them an hour to serve and there was only three other tables that had customers. Definitely was not full from this. We also ordered a rice dish and a bento box. I think this place is good if you’re there to socialize and just have a light lunch or just have appetizers but definitely on the pricier side for what you get. Don’t go here hungry.

We couldn't decide where to eat and as we were crossing the road, I noticed Ebisu on the corner, located on the top of a building. Hands down the best meal we had all week in Vancouver - arrived in time for happy hour where we enjoyed great food at a discount. They made the best Alfredo I've ever truly had with fresh salmon and clams. Will definitely be visiting again!

For two: ordered pork gyoza, thunder fries, and two donburi's to share. Very tasty and filling (4/5), however the "thunder fries" are just potato tempura. Highly recommend making a reservation because the restaurant stays busy. The staff were friendly and attentive (5/5)

I have been here once before, brought a friend this time and Ebisu did not fail to impress, amazingly good experience! I definitely will be back!
Michelle Poirier
A regular stop for me on Vancouver trips. Never fails to impress.

Great food , great service. I might add my 4 year old picky eater devowerd the salmon tempura. She has always refused fish. I'm so happy she loved her 1st taste !

Visited the Ebisu in Richmond recently. Stopped on the way to the fireworks after the BC Lions game. Service was good and food was good. Seemed to be very busy

Perfect, nice atmosphere, kind service and delicious food. Domo arigatoo gozaimasu°

Loved the unagi rock.. the fresh water eel with rice. But was surprised to be charged for the tea.. and was not even informed that that was not complimentary
Keith Barkey
Fantastic food! We were visiting from Chilliwack and we'll make the drive again just for Ebisu!
Barb Bear
Food was OK, but they decided to close an hour early on a Saturday night. It was our first ever visit here.

Great taste and nice restaurant to hang out with friends and family.

Great service, great food!

Excelente restaurante de comida japonesa en Vancouver con un ambiente de lo mejor

wish i could give 0 star. Horrible. Food taste bad, service also bad. Server literally threw the wasabi/ginger when there were only 3 tables on serve. The best part is when I gave $0 as the tip, the server actually called me and said the tip is zero, you didn't give any tip. I said yes i know. Wow, i can't believe she actually asked me about that.

As part of my collaboration with the Robson Business Improvement Association, I am showcasing a few of my favourite restaurants on Robson Street. Ebisu is part of the Kamei Group of Japanese restaurants and is one of Vancouver’s original Japanese restaurants. While most people come to Ebisu for their fusion dishes and innovative cocktails, one of my favourite dishes here is their IceBlast Sashimi Platter. It is an enormous platter of sashimi featuring salmon, tuna, hamachi, spicy tuna, sweet prawns, hotate scallops, saba mackerel, tuna belly toro as well as fresh oysters.
Chichicho Chichicho
More Japanese food. Instead of having sushi and sashimi, it's all cooked food. Went to the busy downtown for some food. . Chicken karage. . Fried chicken is always good. hard to choose weather Korean fried chicken or Japanese fried chicken is better. Salmon carpaccio. Brussels sprouts. Ebisu is at point O in Places Part 3 on the map below:

We made reservations but ended up coming in early but got seated promptly. We started with a chopped scallop roll where the scallops were plenty but rice was not as fresh that's where I have to deduct a point. The foie gras was great- melted in your mouth. The husband tried some uni- which I'm not a fan of. We also tried a tuna they had a On a special feature (3 pieces for $21) forgot the type but it was really good and was fresh! Would recommend and come here again.
Somchai Vorrajack
Food was decent. Service wasn't the greatest in my opinion we were sat at the table and asked for waters to start and we didn't receive our water til half our meals had arrived. They were kind of all over the place. My favorite item I would have to say was the karage and the amebi sweet shrimp. Everything was just okay.

Went here for Dine Out back in January. Very tasty experience, but portions were smaller than we expected. Ambience is interesting- kind of like a fancy restaurant collided with a sports bar!

Came across this pleasant surprise on Robson. Friday night, we did not make a reservation. Lucky to get a table for 5 right away at 6pm.
They were offering the dine-out menu, but we figured for similar price, we can probably get more variety.
We ordered a sashimi platter, some tempura, cheesy kyozas, a few sushi rolls and a mentaiko stirred fried udon. All were pretty delicious. Will definitely return again.

Had dinner with friends for Dine Out Vancouver Festival at this restaurant and our overall experienced was excellent. The food presentation is awesome and the foods were all delicious. The staff are friendly and attentive. The place is good, not bright and music volume is just right. Highly recommended to try.
FOODGRESSING.COM
The Iceblast comes with fresh Japanese scallops (5), sweet amaebi prawns (2), wild sockeye salmon sashimi (4), tuna belly toro sashimi (4), spicy tuna sashimi (5), and fresh oysters (6) with homemade cocktail sauce. Priced at $49.95, the platter is presented on dry ice. The theatrical part or “ice blast” is when the server adds water to the dry ice at tableside to produce smoke.

Situated at the heart of downtown, in between Robson and Bute, Ebisu on Robson offers a trendy fusion-Japanese joint for those looking for a place to eat-out and hang without having to wear a dress shirt to do so (although no one’s going to condemn you for doing it). Possessing a more night-life oriented vibe than the other locations in Vancouver, the food itself for the most part is just as vibrant and impressive.

○slow service
○good food
○lively/ social atmosphere
○paid parking in the back
○pricey but average for the area
○if I had to choose 1 dish: truffle fries
○would i go back? Yes
J.Grab
Food was average at best. Their sushi/sashimi is on the weak side, would not recommend spending money on it. The fried foods were ok (karage, gyoza etc.). Nice interior, lots of screens if you're eating here for a sports event. We went when it was slow so the service was sparse but friendly. They have good deals for lunch and happy hour so if you're going there for a nice vibe and relatively cheap food but don't care about quality as much, this place might not be bad.

When we come to Vancouver, we always stop at Ebisu for happy hour. We ordered:

1) 99 cent oysters and they are royal miyagis
2) pitcher of beer $12
3) large pitcher of sangria $20
4) roasted Brussels spouts $5 - they give you butter on the side to pour over
5) various sushi rolls for only $4-$8
6) spicy tuna sashimi $6
7) chicken karaage $6
8) chili short ribs $6 - would not recommend ordering this. It's just ribs with hot sauce on top.
9) fois gras sushi $5 a piece - so good!

You aren't going to get the best sushi but for the price you pay, it is pretty good. And you definitely can't complain about the cost of the pitchers.
Pauline Vancouver
We ate here a while ago, I didn't realize that it is the same chain as the one on Broadway because it was nothing like it. The interior on Robson is nicer, but we've never been back since because the food was good to average and didn't leave a strong enough impression. While we were totally impressed with the Ebisu on Broadway because the food and service was genuine and I gave it. 4, I can't say this one is the same.
AYEAYERAWN
Ordered the katsu don, dragon roll, and truffle fries. The katsu was dry and the rice was hard. My friend had the dragon roll and the tempura prawn inside the roll was soggy. We ordered the truffle fries but for some reason we got the "thunder fries" ( we didn't know they were thunder fries until it was almsot gone) until the server came by and clarified that the thunder fries were for the "next table". She apologized and said that she will order us a new batch of truffle fries and that she will be back quickly. My friend and I were okay with that, until she comes back later and States that she has to charge us for the THUNDER FRIES that we did not order, along with the TRUFFLE FRIES that she brought us. Both dishes were mediocre at best, and definitely not worth the price they were charging. In total we were charged $45 for food that resembled Japanese food from the mall. Not a pleasant dining experience at all.
It's Me Chuck
This place is perfect for a quick bite to eat. There are many appetizers to choose from. I still remember this place as Hooters from back in the day and the layout is pretty much the same but with decorations here and there.
I recommend this place as a happy hour stop and give the food 3.5/5 and the ambiance 3 /5
Kabir
Definitely not my kind of restaurant. A bit run down, and their prices aren't any lower, either. Makes one wonder how they've survived all this time.

I do love the location of this restaurant, gives a nice view of Robson street. The decor is really modern and the food is pretty good. I would suggest people to go during happy hour or for lunch as the food can get quite pricey during dinner time. The lunch combo I recall is really good because you can get an appetizer, entrée, and ice cream for only $12ish. I have to take a few stars off because I think I went twice here and they either forgot about our food or forgot about us so we were waiting for them for a long long time. But like I said earlier the atmosphere was nice and I didn't mind spending more time in the restaurant talking to my friend there.

Always a peasant experience to visit Ebisu! Everything from the beef tataki to the loco moco chicken was prepared well! Although the portions for the beef tataki lacked quantity. The rice dish was better than I expected although it is simply teriyaki chicken, greens, and an egg on rice. The cuttlefish was not chewy at all and added a nice texture with the roll inside. Service was very friendly, always checked up on us and made sure everything came quickly.
4amVie
Come for the happy hour menu, cocktails, mentai yaki udon, and oysters! Definitely the mentai yaki udon is the best at this location. Have tried it at Kamei Royale and the Broadway Ebisu, but the taste and texture of the noodle is consistently the best here. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Can get very busy on weekends.
Khandrosiddhi
To be honest, I found it quite overpriced with average food and service. The areas are cramped and in general is nothing special. This place is not horrible, but not great either.
Vinita Trieu
If you're going to go to ebisu, go during happy hour because you'll get your money's worth for the food (sort of). Ebisu isn't terrible but there's nothing particular that stands out about the food there. I feel like it's more well known for their name rather than their food

Great food, cute server. The best experience ever !! my friends and i came to try out this place for the first time and the service was really good. We had this cute little server who was very attentive and persuasive on trying to up sell, but unfortunately we were stuffed from our food and couldnt try the Japanese crepe she was so eagerly trying to get us to try, maybe next time ! Over all the experience was very good, side note i do hope you guys get some blankets for the patio and i hope the next time i come in that cute little server is working !!!

Mobile Review. Just some tips for servers to improve service....
We were seated at the end where the washrooms were. the lighting is very dimmed so it was hard for a server to see us wave. I understand that it was busy at the time but please check up on the tables at the back often because there was no service when we needed it, I had to get up and go to a server. If you have long hair, please tie it up! it almost dipped into my food/beer when you lean over to pour us water or serve a dish. Overall, Great food, clean enjoyable environment. I would like to give this place 10/10 the next time i come back!

Tasty food, slow service. I've been to the ebisu in Richmond a couple of times because its closer to me but my friends wanted to go to Ebisu on Robson that day. Im not sure why, but the food at robson is 10x better than the food i've had at the richmond location. Drinks were very fast after ordering but food came very slow. Not a good experience if youre starving. By the time food came, I was nearly done my drink. Not a good combination. And- menus on the website need to be updated!!

Dine Out Vancouver 2015. A table for 2

Appetizer - Assorted Aburi Sushi Set (Salmon, Hamachi, Toro, Saba & Hotate Scallop Sushi seared & dressed w. unique toppings) - nice presented, quite tasty

Entree - Rack of Lamb (roasted, in balsamic wasabi reduction served w. rice risotto & fired shredded potato nest) - the lamb meat was quite tasty, but the portion was relatively small; Alaskan Sablefish (Black Cod marinated in saikyo-miso sauce served w. wild rice, asparagus & mashed bacon sweet potato) - quite tasty, again, the portion was small.

Dessert - Matcha Mouse w. Azuki Whip; Irish Magic (DF Banana w. vanilla ice cream) - both 2 desserts were very well presented and delicious, yet the portions were really too small.

Overall Comments - All the dishes were very well-presented, quite tasty (koodos to the Chefs). However, I do think that the portions were too small. Both my husband and myself were not even 80% full when we left the restaurant. As for the services, I can't say it was bad, but definitely not a very pleasant one, when compared to other restaurants around Downtown Vancouver. Furthermore, the menu was a bit sticky, and I almost sat on a wet sofa, yike!
Brad Green
Food not bad, service was really slow and not prepared for a rush with a big event going on downtown.

Better than Expected. Somewhere along the line, Ebisu made the jump from Old School Sushi to Izakaya. While sudden format changes are often a recipe for disaster, in this case they seems to have pulled it off. So nothing here is particularly original, but it is good. There are a few things that just don't seem to add up though.

1. What's with the sports pub theme? You can get this vibe anywhere, and usually when I go for Sushi or Izakaya, I'm looking to avoid this.

2. The happy hour deals aren't that great. I was there at the transistion between happy hour and the regular menu and there was literally NO DIFFERENCE IN PRICE on some items.

On the whole though, this was an alright experience.

WILL NOT RETURN. Visited Ebisu on Robson for lunch today. The experience started with a trip to the washroom and I soon realised that the paper towel machine was broken and there are no more toilet paper in 1 out of the 3 toilets in the ladies' washroom. The restaurant is only one-fifth full and it was not very busy, staff should be more attentive in looking after the washrooms.

I then proceed to order the $9.99 mentaiko yakiudon from the lunch menu and the kitchen messed up with the wrong plating of the food which resulted in a significantly reduced portion comparative to the same order at another table (you can imagine the yaki-udon plated on a small sushi plate that holds 8 california roll pieces at a standard sushi bar versus a round plate that holds pasta in Italian restaurants). I have been to this restaurant many times before and have ordered the same dish, so I was surprised to see the portion reduction and inquired with the server. The server confirmed that my order and the order at another table was the exact same dish and offered "leftover icecream" to compensate for the mix-up.

In addition, their website menu is not up to date. Lunch specials are at a less value than before, not to mention the sporadic portion reductions. Visit this restaurant at your own risk!

Won't be back. First time trying.... service is slow, waited 15 minutes for each dish. Waitresses are not friendly.food is normal like other japanese restaurant
RealFoodie
The worst customer service. It's too bad to because the food is pretty good when you can actually order it or get it. The servers need a kick in the ass. Management is a joke. Won't be back.
Raimarschmitt1975
Interesting Japanese Style Catcus Club. I have visited the Robson location a few times. The atmosphere is good and the service is quick, helpful and polite. I have found the food to be inconsistent at times however the service has always made up for it. Not too many Japanese spots to have a pint and wings, not to mention that happy hour makes it a great after work spot.

Fallen far fast. The decline of this restaurant is astonishing. I was actually nervous to touch the menus. They were so incredibly run down and sticky. They may have been left out in the rain. I ordered the Tsukune Don which should have been a slam dunk but the chicken was so questionable I am sure McDonalds chicken mcnuggets have more real chicken. This was not the same restaurant as a year ago. Also what they call a pint of beer is around 340 mls as opposed to an actual pint which is 500+ (Small point but irritating nonetheless). Very disappointed.

Enjoyed it. Ate here late on a Friday night. I walked in just at 12 and they let me quickly look at the main menu and order a few rolls. It was nice that they let me order as they were just closing the kitchen but I did feel rushed. The Volcano Roll and Mango Crab roll were both very good. My drink was not as great. It was called Aqua. Very watered down. The menu was a little confusing and I would have liked a little more time to look at it but I was satisfied, nonetheless.
Things got a little more disappointing near the end of the night when it took almost 30 minutes before anyone acknowledged me after my plates had been cleared. I was eager to leave the restaurant but my server just kept walking past me busily cleaning up other tables. It was evident she was looking forward to getting out of there, but the restaurant was still open for another 30 minutes.

4:30-6:30pm cheap happy hour. Chicken Wings $3.9/10 3/5 - We ordered BBQ and hot sauce they didn't taste great. More like something from the freezer to the microwave. Buffalo was too hot for me and the ranch was on the side. The honey garlic and the salt and pepper looked better. I will give it a try next time.
Rolls $6.5/2 and Sushi $9.99/10 $2.5/5 - the rice was too try and I had to dip them into soya sauce. I usually don't coz I found it too salty. Good to fill you up though.
Jalapeno Shrimp $4.95 2/5 - the menu was deceiving. The shrimp were tiny and 2/3 was filled with fries underneath.
Chili Short Ribs $4.99/5 4.5/5 - best dish on the menu! We placed another order for this but the second one had too many chili sauce on top. I wish it was more consistent.
Spicy Calamari $4.78 4/5 - I liked this better than the shrimp. The batter wasn't too think and the portion was bigger than the shrimps.
Nachos Supreme $8.5 2.5/5 - The portion was big but too little cheese.
Hello Kitty $6.5 2/5 - The strawberry puree tasted like cough medicine. Nothing comparable to the one from Hapa.

I've been here a few times when my friends want cheaper happy hour. So I've tried most of the dishes on their happy hour menu. I personally prefer Gyukaku better but some of my group prefer this coz of the price. Good that they have happy hour everyday but sometimes they opened a bit later than 4:30pm. I guess they didn't expect people to come. Service wasn't that great. Sometimes they told us that we leave to by 6:30pm because they had reservations for dinner. Most of the servers did not have a smile on their face. I guess I don't deserve the same amount of service because it was happy hour.
No Dessert Im Full
Really Nice. The inside is much nicer than I thought! I really liked it, actually its probably one of my favourite interiors of any restaurant I've been too. Buuuut it was a nice night so we ate outside lol.

Ninja Kicker roll was good, Volcano roll was good, Salmon Carpaccio was not really my thing, Tuna Sashimi was good, Gyoza was good, and you can't go wrong with a pitcher of Sapporo for $17.
Parham Albadvi
Love the atmosphere. This place is such a good place to hang out with your friends and have a couple of drinks. The atmosphere is always happy and the servers are really nice. The food is also really fresh and I think the prices are reasonable for a Saturday night out.
Mauricea Panchenko
Love this place!. It isn't cheap but we love it! Really good social atmosphere, friendly service and good sushi and sashimi! Love the specials, oysters are pretty nice. Really flavourful rolls. FISH TACOS ARE AMAZING. Have been here many times but have spent quite a pretty penny mostly due to booze but yeah don't expect cheap.
WMirko
Low quality lunch. Came in for lunch, only to find the "specials" are $11.99! That's way too much money for what you get.

I got a meager lunch box and was disappointed. No options, no substitutions, just a set box of crap. The tempura batter was too doughy, I got only 3 pieces of karrage chicken, the sushi was tasteless, and the California roll was pathetic mayo and rubber.

Dinner is fun for drinks and such, but for lunch this place sucks.
Gareth Manning
Like calling Chef Boyardee Italian. Crap inauthentic pub food. Great service but I won't be back.
Yves Lee
Awesome. This restaurant is literally a hidden gem on Robson Street and when you visit, you will be happily surprised~ I try to dine out in this restaurant so often simply craving for that creative Robson Roll! Last visit, the usual suspects, toro and salmon, were fresh and great as well. I normally don't fancy much of oysters, but the Oysters here are actually really good and goes super nice with saki. And the pitchers of beer are only 12 bucks which is hard to find on Robson. Definitely it is a winning combination in my book!

Worst customer service!!. I called in just now to make a reservation for this Friday for 2 people. The call already got off on a bad start. Right when I said I wanted to make a reservation, he put me on hold, without notifying me. When he came back, I told him i wanted to make a reservation for two people at 8:30pm this Friday. He said, "Only two people? We don't take reservations on Fridays or Saturdays for so little people. You need to walk-in" and promptly hung up without saying anything else. My God, I have never encountered such rude people in my life. I've been there several times and wouldn't return, except one of my friends from out of town (for some odd reason) loves it there. The food is mediocre, service is average at best. There really is nothing special about this place. Do not recommend. There are plenty of other places that have better food and service for a similar price. This place is trash.
Moriya
AWFUL. The service at this restaurant is HORRIBLE. I have been there quite a few times and today was the final straw. The servers forgot what we ordered twice, then when I asked for a water refill they asked if I really meant tea (which they charge for), I clarified my request and gestured to my glass filled with ice. She then asked if I wanted hot water with a lemon etc...Whcih I imagine they charge for too. We asked for separate bills and they forgot to do this too. No one asked how things were going during the meal. I decided not to tip, and the waitress looked at my receipt, asked me why I didn't tip, and glared at me. I said the service wasn't good, so I couldn't. She insisted I provide examples. I did, and she glared at me and then went to talk to her coworkers when I was still there. Bizarre.
Asian Foodie
I found the rolls interesting, nothing too fancy but better than I expected. I highly recommend the grilled cuttlefish where you can grill it at your table. Service was okay, but not outstanding. They didn't go out of they way to serve you. The crowd was relatively young, mostly Asian students. What I found odd was that gratuities was included in the bill. Is it because the crowd is relatively young hence less tips? Did I like the place? Yes. Would I go back? Probably, but not for a while I don't think.

Happy Hour is the only reason to go here - good choices, fast service. Toro and oysters are favorites. Should go with out saying but avoid the poutine roll - did not try but it's definately fusion for fusion sake, not flavor!
Ptbeans
The first time I went here I was pretty surprised at how rude the servers were for kicking out guests after an hour and a half or being there already. I think the time limit is lame otherwise the food is yummy. Chicken karage and the sashimi carpaccio were Delish! I'm happy I live far from this place otherwise I'd go there quite often
ForTheLoveofFood
Large group, not a problem. Dined here with 12 people before fireworks.
Ordered the dozen oysters; delicious, fresh and great condiments included. Sumarai sushi was a bit sweet for my tastebuds (sauce) but very tasty. Good amount of seafood in the sushi and good portions. Shared a pitcher of pale ale beer for $12.00 (tax/tip included). Pint of beer was $3.33 without tax. Good selection of dishes. All diners were very satisfied with their meal and full after eating. I will diner here again.

Good sushi. The sushis are good!! I like the inside too but I would definitely avoid it during the hockey screening days since u will be surrounded by a bunch of drunk people screaming and what not.... food is great and service is usually good.. no complaints :)
TheHappySloths
Tiny portions. Seriously small portions! the plating is all fluff and very little substance, i feel like if i am paying 16 bucks for a plate, at least i should get full -_-
Grace Tong
Lunch is great, Dinner not so much. Go for their lunch menu, not their dinner one. The lunch one has some very good options like a "make your own meal" for around $10.95 where you can choose your miso soup, salad, main dish, and dessert. I always go for the Akari miso soup, sashimi salad, and green tea ice cream while switching between the mentaiko yakiudon, saba miso, sashimi platter, and katsu-toji for the main dish. Some of these main dishes cost more than this entire lunch combo if you order if from their dinner menu!
Samantha A
Eh..not my fav. Have been here a few times, usually for large group birthdays. I feel like Ebisu tries to give you Japenese fusion cuisine - at a high price. The food is over priced and the service slow. The best think about this place is the cheap shooters (hence the group birthdays here). Went here for dinner with 3 girlfriends a few weeks ago, and tipped around 13-14% - then the waitress told me I didn't tip enough and told me to pay the difference. Service 1/5 food 3/5 (average) value for your dollar 1/5. I wouldn't come back here by my own choice. And would certainly eat ahead of time.

Great Rolls. Been coming here for awhile. Service is generally really good and the rolls they have are great. Definitely like the Crunch and Munch rolls as well as the Cherry Blossom.

Went for Easter and the place was empty. We had decent food, a lousy service and my friend found a metal piece in her Chicken Teriyaki!!!

Worst Event Ever in Vancouver. Miserable service, hugely noisy, and below average food quality. Specifically reported a food allergy, and still had an allergic reaction (life threatening). More attention to the loud drinkers in the back corner than to everyone else. Heavy handed use of bonito flakes that deadened other flavours. And don't even try to get some tea - if you're not into alcohol, you just dehydrate. Server leaned across two of us at the bar to clear dishes literally leaning on both us. Don't sit at the end of the sushi bar; you'll just get hit by every server that rushes by. And the server sat over me, not more than 10" away as I paid the bill.

There is not one saving grace at this place.

Not bad overall. I used to frequent this place a lot while I worked downtown. Recently went back to try it again. Had the combo for lunch with the char siu rice and the ramen. Ramen was salty, but not overly so. The rice with char siu was 90% rice and very little pieces of meat. Not sure if this combo was worth $11 +tax/tip. I probably need to go back and try their cheap oysters for happy hour. One thing to note is the server which was quite poor in english and had a difficult time understanding our requests and orders. Luckily the owner? was there too and was able to help our table out.

Great Time =). Went a few weeks back for a friends birthday...we had more ppl show than expected and they were more than helpful in finding more seating for us. Service was attentive and food was great. I would go back again! I suggest trying the bbq spare ribs and duck salad.
Hitting The Sauce
Happy Hour. The 99 cent oysters during happy hour are a must - nicely presented with condiments. I found an occasional shell, but whatever. The rolls were not impressive - a bit hard and dry without the vinegar flavour. The scallops tasted a bit fishy. They offered Sapporo as one of their draft beers, which was a little flat.

Not Impressed. Recommended from a friend, and was excited to try. We were hoping the quality will be different from the branch in Richmond, but we were wrong. The price we paid was for the location and atmosphere. We order a Sashimi Salad, and it is one of the worst I have eaten. Firstly, the vegetables were very obvious that it came from a pre-package that you can get at any super market. It was dry and not fresh. The cream sauce was merely mayo, and has no flavor. The sashimi itself was blant, and all I knew was that I was chewing on a piece of raw fish. Then the next item was a sushi roll, unagi + avocado + tobiko, the roll was decent I admit. Next was the potato butter, which once again, frozen potato was used. The dish was super oily, and the cheddar cheese(kraft I believe) they used was shredded cheese that are used for pizza. Then we ordered a jumbo cheese yakitori, and we were not impressed. They used the same shredded cheddar cheese from kraft dinner, and not much flavor overall. Lastly, the mentaiko yakiudon was a disappointment as well. The udon itself was too wet, and the mentaiko was not rich in flavor enough. Will not return. If you want the above mentioned food, go to Guu.

Terrible Service!!. I went there for lunch, and the restaurant was very empty. The waitress did not speak at all and made me feel uneasy and unwelcome. After being seated, we asked her a couple questions about the menu and she didn't know the answers at all. Went taking my order, she didn't speak at all and was actually rude at a point. When i paid the bill, she didn't return with my change, assuming that I would give her all that tips. Overall, this waitress was just so clueless and rude and made me not enjoy my visit there at all.

The food was okay; nothing special. I had miso soup with clams and it was so salty that i couldn't drink even a quarter of it. To me, if a Japanese restaurant can't even get a miso soup right, then that's a problem. Other than that, I'd say the meal was not worth the money, especially with the bad service.

I am thoroughly disappointed and i will definitely not be returning.

Squid bbq. Very unique and yummy.. you cook your own squid on a mini barbeque on the table.. the crowd was very loud and drunk though

Never eating lunch here again. Dinners are good but gosh I was so disappointed by the lunch specials. The sashimi salad was practically dry. My curry chicken katsu was not even warm when i took a bite. I know some local asian restaurants that can make better curry than that was. The only thing that made the lunch remotely enjoyable was the gelato that comes with the meal. Disappointing.

Tasty but pricey!. Good food, but pricey.
going there and eating regular sushi or wings or whatever is kind of a waste. try their specials and recommended dishes. very unique and definitely worth its money.

I want Japanese!. Was on robson the other day, craving for japanese food and somehow ended up in Ebisu. To start, had some green tea, nice and hot for a cold day. Had the standard dynamite, california rolls, and also decided to try the Fish and chips roll. They we're all not bad I guess. Nothing really stood out except for the fact that they were all fresh. Now, I'm no sushi expert, but I also thought the rice was perfectly done. My favorite part of the night was desert. Had some sort of deep fried banana with mango and vanilla ice cream. It had a touch of red bean to it as well which i thought went perfectly with this desert. Service was great, and presentation was also.

Not overly impressed.. If I had gotten a server who wasn't clueless, things may have turned out differently. Nice enough atmosphere. I ordered a dozen Miyagi oysters on the shell. They were fine. I then got a different server. I asked her if the Party Tuna Toro Salmon was all belly of salmon and tuna. She answered there might be 3 kinds, maybe hokigai (clam) was in there too. She proceeded to write down the order for the Party tuna toro salmon. I asked her if she wouldn't mind finding out for sure if it was only tuna and salmon toro or if it also included hokigai. She checked and came back to tell me "no problem, only tuna and salmon". I said "ok, Ill take one of those please". I received the "Party order" about 15 minutes later. There was a lot of sashimi. I took a bite of the tuna toro (it was still frozen but no biggie). I quickly realized that it was not tuna toro, but regular maguro. Big disappointment as I would have most definitely ordered by the piece if I had known it was a mix of mostly tuna (not belly) salmon (not belly either) and 3 or 4 pieces of tuna toro). I didn't finish it.
I then ordered the Ika butter yaki which was ok but too salty. I also ordered prawn gyoza, which was ok. The best part of the meal were the oysters.
I also work in the service industry and if I don't know the answer to something, I find out and I make sure I get it straight.
I will not return. The whole experience was mostly disappointing.

Good food, but slow service. My friend and i each had the lunch special - the food was great... but the downside is that service was really slow - took us forever to flag the Korean servers to take our order, to refill our tea, and to get the bill. Lunch turned out to be over 1 hr at Ebisu. So if you plan to take an extended lunch to get away from the office, I guess this would be the place.

Mmm just had oysters for lunch!. Hi everybody! I've been to Ebisu twice now. My first visit from Toronto introduced me to "Bear Huggers", later described to me as rocky mountain bear ******* haha. It was definitely a warm welcome to Vancity!

My last visit was for a lunch date, we had yummy oysters and bento boxes :D = happy campers! We also recently found a discount on facebook, $20 for $10 at vaneats.ca which will call for a third trip soon! (and maybe more bear huggers haha)

We live nearby and although we have a few options, we always choose here. They're really nice and friendly and their sushi chef is ALWAYS smiling. Always fresh and great selection of foods. wanna wonderful food?try here

Hassle free lunch on a busy day. Enjoyed the bentos. Prompt service. Convenient downtown location.

Will visit again!. We stopped by for Happy Hour. We had four dishes (10 chicken wings, a spicy tuna roll, Cali roll, 5 pieces of salmon sushi), one miso soup, and a large sake for under $30. The sushi was of good quality and the the sizes of the slices were much larger than I would have expected for the price.

I think that even had we paid non-Happy Hour prices I would have felt that we would have gotten good deal. The service was quick and despite being pretty crowded.
Gotta Eat
Good place. This place was hard to find, but once you get there, it is worth it. Very busy place, didn't even get a table, sat on the bar stools again
Raymond's Sushi Adventures
The Toro Inferno is listed on the menu as being the first original version created in Vancouver, and is freshly box-pressed with shiso, burdock, shiitake, sesame and sushi rice. Once it was brought to my table, a server brought a torch to sear the whole thing at my table! Each piece was seared for about three seconds, and this allowed for a smoky taste on the top along with a delicious, creamy layer of naturally-flavoured toro at the bottom. The sushi rice was soft, well-formed, and seasoned to better match the toro on top.

We went to Ebisu on Robson for their Happy Hour menu. We had their sudden death and honey garlic chicken wings. They were decent. The sudden death wasn't as spicy as the name would make it sound. They were also very soggy. We also had the 99¢ oysters. They were fresh enough, but not fresh to the point where you would exclaim, "Wow, this is so fresh." These Chili Short Ribs were the only things we ordered two dishes of - not because it was really good, but because we didn't think there were enough per plate. Will not return. Better chicken wings and oysters elsewhere.

In summary, this restaurant is slightly expensive for the amount of food that you get while the service is mediocre. Hidden in the heart of downtown Vancouver, I've heard my friends describe this restaurant as the "Earls of Japanese food". So it's more of a classier place to eat. Last night my friends and I decided to go to Ebisu to see what it's like for one of my friend's birthday celebration. Located on the second floor, it was a nice stairway up to the second floor as it was outside and well lighted. Once you enter, you'll notice that the lighting inside is slightly dark with candles placed on every table. All of the waiters are dressed professionally. As we were led to our table, I noticed that the spaces inside the restaurant is actually pretty cramped with not too much walking space. We were seated down at a table for 8 and we started ordering. When you open the menu, you'll notice that the food isn't exactly Japanese. It is more of a fusion between Japanese and other cu

It’s been a long while since my last visit to “Ebisu”, nearly a decade ago in my early 20′s. And tonight I found out just why that was. The place felt like a night club, and I have long declared myself too old for that scene. I need elbow room in which to eat, a chair to be able to sit, and quite to hear my guest speak. And most importantly I do not want to feel the sweat of my neighbour or anything else of their’s pressed up against me. But within these walls, those nights of youthful clubbing came back to me. The lights were low and techno coloured, the music was aggressive and loud with base, and the boys and girls were dressed to impressed in tight tees and short skirts. I could swear I was the oldest in the place and my guest was the only non Asian. Trays of “shots, shots, shots, shots, shots…. (for) every body!” was the culprit for this rowdy atmosphere. Everyone was celebrating something with cheap cocktails in different colours. Each paired with creative names to attract th

Part of the Kamei Group, Ebisu seems like a child of Kamei Royale . It’s more modern, targeted toward younger crowds. Like Kamei, they also have Happy Hour. We were able to make it in time, and got a super good deal. We each ordered 2 rolls for $6.50 – one negitoro roll (my favourite!) and spicy tuna roll. My friend got the dynamite and chopped scallop roll. We decided we’d share all the rolls anyways, so that we’d be able to get a taste of more rolls. The first time, we got to sit inside by the window overlooking Robson street. It was a nice view, and the furniture and interior of the restaurant was very nice considering the ‘cheap’ deals available. The negitoro roll was really good. But with the other rolls, the rice seemed a bit dry and hard, as if they had been sitting out for a long time. Presentation was great. Nice plates. Speaking of plates, if your plate to take food onto gets too dirty (from chicken wing bones, sauces, etc) then the server will replace them with new clean one

With several locations around town (and one in Richmond), Ebisu is usually the go-to place for Japanese food, besides AYCE places, though if those are really “Japanese” is up for debate, for large groups of people.Since it was early, we were able to access their happy hour specials (in particular, the wings one). I ordered the large $9.99 Chicken Karaage for dinner because a friend of mine ordered it on the last occasion I was here and boy did it smell good!

However, to my surprise, all the aspects of this roll somehow just worked together in a symphony of flavour. The wasabi cream was inventive and provided a nice kick to the roll.

Subpar meals are usually forgettable affairs, but the meal I had at Ebisu was the opposite of that. This was a truly unforgettable meal. From now on, the (mac)chicken-like chicken namban will pop into my head every time I visit the golden arches. Without intending to do it (though you never know), Ebisu has created one of the most unexpected and unforgettable dining memories in my mind.
Ohnaturelle
All in all, Cindy and I both categorized our meal at Ebisu as being good, but nothing spectacular or particularly memorable. As noted before, the flavours were rather repetitive. Still, the dining package is quite a good deal, as a meal for two for $20 is hard to come by nowadays, especially considering the location downtown. It’s well worth your while scoping out the deals on VANEATS!

The other night, my friend held her birthday dinner at Ebisu on Robson in downtown Vancouver. There are two other locations located in the Lower Mainlad – Broadway and Richmond. The variety of food and their presentation was amazing, and they all had funky names attached to them. Unfortunately, I wasn’t feeling very well, so I didn’t have a chance to try more variations on their menu.I would like to share a few of their dishes and some pictures I took! Because the restaurant’s interior was very dark, it was hard to get some decent pictures when the sun had set around 9:00pm! This is the Tiger Mayo my friend ordered (and generously shared with me). The shrimp was big and juicy, and the mayo was delicious! Tiger Mayo Close up Due to my post H Pylori diet, I tried to order something healthy. I opted with the Original Garden Salad that came with house ginger dressing, but I deeply regret it. The veggies itself tasted boring, and I did

Ebisu has the cheapest oysters as far as I know. Its also a good place for a quick lunch at happy hour or late night drinks and sushi.
Alice - Lilo - Huneybear
Is Ebisu the best place for Japanese food? I would say no. But on a afternoon where I don’t want “figure” out what to eat, this is a good place to head to.
Jennylyy
At night it’s a more lounge-like, dining experience. Perfect place to stuff a stomach full before a night out or have lunch/an early dinner during their happy hour if you want a quieter meal.

Overall, Ebisu's happy hour was enjoyable. Nothing special, but it's on a busy location. My impression is that they should stick with fushion type tapas.
Every Day Is A Food Day
They seem to have a larger menu than the Richmond location. I also got the Chicken Karaage which was a huge portion. The pieces of chicken were much larger than I had expected, but since it was boneless, all was good. The batter was decent, although quite oily. I enjoyed the honey-mustard which tasted a little like plum sauce, and the Cajun mayonnaise was a little spicy. Hamachi Inferno - yellowtail box pressed in shiso, burdock, shiitake, sesame and sushi rice seared! Ebisu is famous for their inferno sushi, so I finally deci

We started off with some salmon sushi ($6.50). The pieces of salmon were fresh tasting and had a nice consistency. The pieces were a bit thin, but I still enjoyed them. They have oysters on special for $1 each during happy hour, so we got a few. The oysters were very fresh and served with lemon, green onion, a sweet soy sauce, and a spicy sauce. The oysters had a mild refreshing flavour and tasted great with all the toppings. The volcano roll ($6.97) was a spicy salmon roll that was topped with avocado, tempura bits, tobiko, and more spicy sauce. This roll was impressive to look at, however, it was a bit hard to eat. The tempura bits were difficult to pick up with the roll and most of them fell off and got left behind. The spicy sauce actually had a bit of h

Many of you living in Vancouver will pass by えびす Ebisu Robson x Butes location at one point in time; or perhaps frequent this eatery. Like Ebisu in Richmond, it comes from the same parent group Kamei Group. This place is forever jammed action packed and is great of late nights or happy hour. Problem with this location, like any other establishment on Robson is that street parking is terrible and there isn’t any free parking. There is a long bar table, booth seats and high tops tables in the back. Again, it is a great place to watch the game, pre-drink, chill and grab a bite.
Eating With Kirby
We all found it weird because we thought tea would be complimentary, just like how it is with the majority of other Japanese restaurants in Vancouver. Also, the waitress never told her there would be a charge for the tea. First came the Chikuwa Cheese ($4.80) which is deep fried fish cake stuffed with mozzarella cheese.

I would strongly reccomend going for their Lunch Specials or Happy Hour. The same food, but better deals.

I suppose I could see why my contemporaries might enjoy it.

Ebisu on Robson is a great place to chill with friends or watch a game thanks to it's upbeat environment and unique menu. First timers to Ebisu might have a hard time picking from all the tempting food, so come hungry!

The salmon carpaccio featured Atlantic salmon marinated in soy based olive oil topped with citrus white wine mayo & flavoured garlic chips was first to arrive after quite a wait. I think there might have been some confusion about us trying the Ebisu Flair package because we waited for an insanely long time. Anyway

Mochi and I only had one thing in mind: raw oysters, and so right off the bat we ordered 20 oysters as well as a pint of honey lager.

I know what you're thinking, another visit to ebisu? Yeaps! Colleen really likes eating here for some reason. But this will be our last visit for the year because well I don't want to keep revisiting. This place is really busy. The gigantic table next to us seemed to be forever increasing in the number of people they can cram into it. It was for obvious reasons a birthday celebration but man, there must have been like 25-30 people crammed onto a table for 10!
