Review The Diamond - Vancouver

Sandra (Vikingsandra)
This has got to be one of my favourite cocktail bars. I had a glass of red wine though, but my friend tried some cocktails and they were really good. We had a cheese board and some prosciutto and locally baked bread which was really good. I wish they had more food but overall it was a great experience. The atmosphere was awesome too!

cozy but lively spot in gastown, really enjoyed the vibes and live music when we were here on a saturday night. good food and good drinks - will be back for the hideaway bar!

Amazing cocktail bar! Love the atmosphere. Service was great and the food and drinks were awesome too! Pretty loud in here.

A beautiful room where the front of house industry people go to get drunk and the back of the house people go for one cocktail to seem fancy. Ordered the Tiger’s Breath cocktail which contained hibiscus tequila, jalapeño honey pineapple and lime. It was fantastic! I could have easily ordered several but I’m only a chef. Haha 🍹

Fun spot for tasty drinks. Really nicely made cocktails. Friendly service. Large drink menu.

One of my favorite cocktail bar in town. A great variety spirits to choose from, but definitely try their old fashions. IYKYK and add the sparkling or mini beer glass! As I've been going here about once a month or so, one criticism is the lack of updates of drinks. I've been thru the list once over and looking for something different. They also have a bar behind the bar called the Elk Room which h also have their own set of drink list. The drinks here are less spirit forward. I'd stick to the front of the room.

Always a great time at the diamond. I love their cocktails and the delicious little snacks that pair so wonderfully. They were out of the vegan board, so I opted for the belgian black truffle pâté ($18). Ir was very flavourful and the pickles added a perfect crunch. Definitely go during happy hour ($4 off certain drinks from 6:00-7:30pm).

The server is friendly and very nice 😊 cocktail is really good! However I wish they have more selection for food example fries or chicken wings or other food fingers food. We ordered their cheese board and it's not bad but just not that filling Overall really enjoy the place, vibe and music. Definitely will eat first before come to enjoy the cocktail ☺️

Diamond is our favorite place to go for dates. We have a lot of fun tasting the vast array of drinks on the menu. I recommend sitting at the bar to watch the bartenders do their magic! And the décor reminds me of my hometown and the servers are lovely.

Amazing service, amazing vibe, vibrant neighborhood and great cocktails. Get the Cheezes platter!
Marie Duprez Pannetrat
Wears well its name. A little jewel hidden in Gastown. Only downside, the music is a bit loud, it's not that easy to talk.
Leslie Thomson
Great place to hang out and have drinks and a bite to eat!
Jeff H. Davis
The cocktails and environment are perfect. Our bartender, Adam, was excellent and took spectacular care of us. Some great cocktail spots in Vancouver, but this was my favorite.
Pia von Westphalen
Awful customer service. Never been so mistreated in a restaurant. Will never be going back to give you a cent of my money again.
Rob Sidley
litteraly the best cocktail bar in vancouver. hands down.
Namita DigheShetty
I had my cozy bridal shower/ bachelorette at Diamond. I wish we had dropped in earlier than we did. I absolutely loved the music here and that is big coming from someone who usually doesn't care for music and is picky about it. The ambience is great. I wish however that there were more options for food. The cocktails were different and unusual. Definitely must visit

THE WORST EXPERIENCE EVER ! / The Diamond, I went once few months ago for few drinks and it was perfect : the ambiance, the barman, the look/taste of the cocktails...everybody's was friendly. I went tonight with my parents visiting from France to had few cocktails. Usually the cocktails are amazing here, a bit expensive but delicious. We order the same drink and it appears in two different glasses : one tall and mine, in a small one. It was so strange...so we asked two different waiters if it was normal, and if it was the same amount of cocktail in that two different glasses. They both say yes, one of them even promise (you must be ashamed) ! We was disappointed because even with a quick look you can tell my glass had less countenance ! So we start to measure it with an empty glass of water and YES, my glass was 1/2 smaller than the other ! So we ask the waiter again and show him that he was wrong...we saw on his face that he was upset, but please, we want to have a good time, don't lie and be unrespectful to your customers ! This guy even ask us if we wanted the bill...it's so inappropriate, we didn't even try the drinks. I just say that he can forgot the bill and we are just going to leave and NEVER COME BACK to this place. Shame on you the Diamond ! (The worst thing it's we see when we leave that we wasn't the only one with the same cocktail...but served in different glasses/sizes...so maybe it's a good way to make more money but it's also a good way to lose customers for sure !)

Beautiful Location and building. Overall I was happy with service food drinks and vibe.

Always very good , friendly but professional service. They know their drinks ( and the cocktails are very yummy). Good music too !

Excellent drinks and even better service! Had a great time there!

Ask handsome Cuban expat Jesus to whip you a Mohjito, best you'll find outside of Old Havana town.

So The Diamond has changed it's tune: You're now 'allowed' in the back room if you ask nicely and if you're willing to drink 'beer or whiskey only'.
Jason L Broomes
A beautiful, classy cocktail bar. It's got a lively yet chilled atmosphere. I've been there twice and plan to go again.

Spent $115 on 6 drinks, the waitress (Leticia) was lovely but on our way out a friend mistook an out-in-the-open staff bowl of candy as the host station offering (typical mints/toothpicks). He literally took 1 sweet-tart and the bartender bee lined it for him and verbally accosted him in front of friends and other guests; "Would you walk into someone's house and steal their food?" was his abusive message amongst other obscenities. What a F'ing prick. I'm ashamed we paid this establishment such high dollar for such disappointing hospitality. I would never return to, or endorse, an establishment who's employees do not put their guests first. Poor form by the plaid shirt wearing, ultra aggressive bartender. Maybe you can use the $100+ to buy some therapy? Respect the hand that feeds you.
The Girl With Curly Locks
This is a very nice place situated in Vancouver. The food is amazing and the presentation of food looks very tempting. Staff is very friendly to its customers and it is good to see a smile on their face.

3.7/5 Food were average. But I really like the smoke and mirror. A cocktail which comes with the actual smoke is always made you excited, right? Getting a window seat at a fall night is a plus!!!

Happy hour everyday from 5:30-7:30. $4 off featured cocktail and $1 selected nigiri. We ordered the Adonis ($11) and Vancouver ($14) cocktails along with some nigiri, chirashi bowl, and the grilled squid. Food was just ok and I think the cocktails are a bit expensive. Bill came to about $68 for 2 people.

This place has great drinks and interior design. Great place for drinking dates.... that being said....<br/><br/>Do not get the sushi.... it’s not good<br/><br/>That being said, the octopus salad is alright and the pork bun was ok too.<br/><br/>The food is very mediocre but come for the drinks and atmosphere.<br/>

This is a pretty cool place to go on a Friday Night after work. Went here with some co-workers and had a Tequilla Martini - this drink is not on the menu but a really nice one. We had a cheese platter which had quite a few selection of cheeses served with a thin toasted bread. It was great. I would recommend this place for a nice night out for drinks. This place can get pretty busy though.
Klaudia Puseljic
Great drinks, great place, great atmosphere, but terrible service! My first time coming here on a week night was not a great experience. We had already ordered drinks and once the drinks were finished, it took an additional 20ish minutes to get a server to our table because we wanted to order food. We tried to wave down a server but they never noticed us. They seemed to be understaffed and at that point we were extremely unimpressed and just went somewhere else for food. Unfortunate experience as I had heard such great things about this place. Definitely did not live up to its expectations.
Chef Boy-N-The-Hood
Definitely a contender for best cocktail bar in the city, if not number one. Cocktail menu is updated regular but the classic are always there. The staff are all very up on their cocktails and able to explain and cater to all level of enthusiast. Atmosphere is just what I'm looking for when imbibing. I find myself there at least once a week and recommend to anyone visiting. Definitely go for the drinks, food is great but not what draws me. But it's one of my top 3 in Vancouver.
Na Arbabi
Horrible service at the bar. I mean disgustingly rude bartenders who do not know how to mix drinks. I cannot even put down in words how horrible my experience was. I was basically told by the bartender to F off because I did not like the drink they made (it tasted like a $1 lemonade you'd buy from a six year old on a street corner).

Came to The Diamond for cocktails before dinner. Amazing cocktail list! Very extensive list too. Be sure to try the lemony and refreshing Strega Cabella and the Rowdy Neighbour (Aperol based). Really cool crowd and decorated beautifully with vintage chandeliers, exposed brick and neutral colours. LOVE.

Cocktail heaven. Dark corners, inimate conversation and candlelight meetings. Great little spot after dinner with friends or for meeting a date for a drink. Highly recommend checking out once, twice, always.
Josh
Best place to grab a drink in the city. They will tailor to your needs for any drink. Try my personal favourite the meat hook, it's not on the menu.
Crissy
The space is really cool. Tall windows, high ceilings, brick walls. Overall great interior. <br/><br/>The drinks are good. They're known for their cocktails but they also serve some beer (their offerings could be better though). They have a very hefty list of cocktails to suit any mood. <br/><br/>Their food menu is just mediocre. They've changed it a bunch of times. Currently they offer a small Latin American inspired menu with delicious chunky guacamole and some sandwiches like the Cubano and a tuna crab melt. They were both average. The tuna crab melt was very overwhelming on the seafood side. It was tough to finish.
Lisakharmon
Awful service. Beautiful room, great cocktail menu, surprisingly AWFUL service.<br/>The server was exceptionally rude, condescending and humourless. Drained any enjoyment out of the experience.<br/>Will never return and could never recommend this establishment to others.
Zed
Photos don't really do justice to this cozy loft-style cocktail bar. Square space, high ceilings, floor to ceiling windows. You would want to live here. Retro decor and bartenders. Interesting cocktail menu with something to please every mood. Great place for couples or groups. A must if you are in Gastown.
Ashacaron
Just.. no. Worst service. Vancouver does not have great service.. But this place is one of the worst. The beer selection is also absolutely terrible. Nice ambience but I would not recommend it due to awful service and lack of beer.
Tom
Service sucks. Stopped by this late night spot for a drink and a snack. We made the mistake of sitting ourselves down at one of the empty tables. When the waitress noticed she rudely scolded us about it and said next time we should wait until she gets to us. After this she disappeared without even taking a drink order. We waited about 10-15 minutes and no one even approached our table. Ended up leaving and going to another establishment next door.
Ektaa_50
Horrible service. Had a terrible experience tonight after waiting 30 minutes to be acknowledged after being seated. After walking up to our server to let her know that we were waiting for her, she didn't apologize and proceeded to take our order. Shortly after, we asked for the bill and again, she disappeared for a very long time. We noticed she was taking shots with a group of her friends at another table.. maybe that's why she forgot about us? We finally got hold of a manager who gave us our bill. We were looking forward to this place and wanted to enjoy it, but will not be returning.

GETTING CUT OFF!?!?. This place had nice ambiance...at first. service was slow and food was alright. what really displeased me was that we GOT CUT from the bar. Too much volume of alcohol came to our table and that the KITCHEN thought we were too loud..basically we were undirectly forced to leave. On top of that there was a 18% service charge..which the server did not deserve.

Full of unattractive people. Patrons and staff alike. Myself included o.O

NOT GLUTEN FREE FRIENDLY!. Celiacs beware! I've just had the worst experience of my celiac life (13years). After choosing this restaurant because it said gluten-free friendly, I asked the server what options were indeed g-f. I TOLD HER I HAD CELIACS. My meal actually tasted really good... too good! So I stopped eating. I asked her to double check with the kitchen and got a cheeky reply. Turns out they changed the menu on her. It wasn't gluten-free at all but WHOLE WHEAT! BUT why didn't she write gluten free on my order????? the kitchen would have caught it for sure! This goes to show they have nothing in place for cross contamination. So they offer to pay for my bill (not my friends and tried to put some of my items on her bill too!) The manager proceeds to 'buy me a drink', which the server then brought out a bill and tries to charge me for it! ($19) By this point I'd tried throwing up in the bathroom too rid myself of all the contaminants. I left in tears and was thoroughly traumatized.

Probably one of the worst experiences I've ever had. I showed up with a girlfriend to The Diamond in Gastown. It was my first visit and my last. I go out in the downtown scene quite a bit and live locally and I have never been treated so poorly by someone in the service industry. The venue was busy and we agreed to sit up at the bar and after our cocktails were made we took a picture of them using flash in the dark setting and were very rudely yelled at and approached several times because of one flash. The reaction was as if I were had just taken a series of photos and disrupted a performance. It was completely unprofessional considering all we were doing was promoting a business and having a good night up until then. If it is such a problem in this day and age when everyone is attached to their smart phone and posting media then they should have warned us when stepping foot in their venue instead of the rude treatment we were given. We attempted to order another round of their pricy drinks and move on but the bartender felt the need to continuously approach us and discuss it further in a very arrogant way. We left shortly after. I wouldn't waste my time or money at this place. Too many other venues with good service to waste your time at The Diamond!

I went to diamond last week I use to like the food there but now is tasteless I still love the cocktails but honestly I will never eat here again .<br/>Drinks 10 food 0

In the words of the great JZ "diamonds are forever". This place rules. The drinks are great. No matter what you do, don't ask for a vodka soda, the bar keep will give you some BTA (big time attitude). It's good though, the place makes you experience new and inventive drinks. The drinks are pricey but it's well worth it .

Always a good time. I love the bourbon milk punch, and their entire menu. It's more appetizer-sized than actual dinner, and it's highly recommended as an after-dinner hangout. The dessert menu is definitely worth checking out for a small, sweet snack. Some of their bartenders can be a little heavy-handed, but when they're not the drinks are perfect.
The_smooth_dude
Horribly overpriced and mediocre food. I visited this location with my family one week ago, we were hoping to get into the Blarney Stone or Irish Heather, but they were all filled up because of the Canucks game, so we took a gamble on The Diamond, and boy did we lose that bet.<br/><br/>First impression of the place, it's a bit ratty, and once you climb the stairs to the dining area you can hardly hear each other for the music is so loud. That's my first major complaint, they have the music cranked up to a level you would only expect of a nightclub, but this is a pub and there is no dance floor, if you tried dancing you would crash into somebody.<br/><br/>Next you will be seated and the servers (who, by the way, wear some really tacky outfits, honestly, were they asked to dress like that?) will bring you your menus. At first you will probably be inclined to ask for your menu, but will give a sudden stop as you notice that sheet of leather glued to a wooden plank in front of you IS the menu. That's the menu, a single page of items attached to a sheet of leather which is also glued to a plank of wood, one of the most tacky things I've ever seen in a restaurant.<br/><br/>So you will roll your eyes and take a glance at the menu, but surely that can't be the entire selection, there's like four starters and four entrees, really small selection. So you decide to give them a break, after all, quality is more important than quantity. Speaking of which, you will probably notice the quantity of sides that are offered with your entrees, which is to say, zero. Yes, your entree is the only thing you get, not even some vegetables on the side. You have the option of paying 10 dollars for a patte, 12 dollars for a grilled cheese sandwich, 12 dollars for a pork belly sandwich, and up to 18 dollars for a plate of cheese and crackers.<br/><br/>I ordered the pork belly sandwich, my Father and Brother-in-Law ordered the grilled cheese sandwich while my sister ordered the cheese and crackers. I made the correct choice as everybody else's meal was mediocre. The cheese sandwich was bland and as barebone as what your mother would quickly make to go along with your soup as a kid, as for the cheese and crackers, well it was cheese and crackers for 18 dollars. My sandwich was actually quite good and I enjoyed it, but to ask 12 dollars of such a thing is unheard of, if you ordered that in any other pub you would probably expect to pay 5 dollars max.<br/><br/>Finally, last but not least, the bartender is horribly unqualified. It wasn't incredibly busy there that night (They don't have a TV, so nobody wanted to eat there because of the hockey game), so we were hoping to at least get some decent drinks. We ordered caesars all around, what they gave us were not caesars. It was clamato juice and what seems like a bunch of Worcestershire sauce, I could understand accidentally adding a dash too much of the worc, but this guy clearly doesn't know how to mix his cocktails. This is Canada, the first drink you should learn is the caesar. Oh and they garnished it with cucumber slices and no lime wedge either, the cucumber was the best part.<br/><br/>So in summary:<br/>Tacky<br/>Loud<br/>mostly mediocre food<br/>small servings<br/>huge cost<br/>pathetic drinks<br/><br/>Don't eat here.

Cocktail heaven. Get cocktails, amazing room and great people

Tasty Drinks. Went for a few drinks and they were so tasty! <br/>The food was subpar and not much you want to snack on while you drinking away. It was busy which was nice but the service was just ok

A Gem. We stumbled into the diamond on Canada Day when looking for somewhere for a drink that didn't have a 45 minute wait. This hidden gem (no pun intended) was just what we were looking for--it was full but not too crazy, and the cocktails were new and exciting. A bit on the expensive side, but worth it for a drink or two.

Not impressed. Decor was great. Drinks were good. Food was okay. I (perhaps mistakenly) ordered the charcuterie plate and thought the bread was old, and questioned the freshness of the deli meats/cheeses. My friend enjoyed the tom yum soup though so I may not have made the best food choice. Service was okay... until we informed our server of a MOUSE sighting. She stared at us blankly and walked away without any apologies nor any assurance anything would be done about the situation. Needless to say we promptly asked for the bill and got the heck out of there before the mouse (and I hope there was only one!) nibbled at our toes. Good luck to those adventure seekers who will take a chance on The Diamond.

Diamond geezer. I just popped into the Diamond this evening. I've got to admit that I'd not been much of a fan before, there was someting that didn't quite gel with my palate. This evening the Corpse Reviver was beautifully made and perfect for a hot summer evening in Vancouver. Had some gyoza which were nice. Just kind of liked it. That's all.

Beautiful little place. Great place for drinks and fun! Profound conversations are a must here!!

Fab cocktails, gorgeous space & view of Gastown. Fantastic cocktails - this is what they are known for. I shudder in mild embarassment when my drinking companion attempts to order a vodka soda or beer and urge them to take advantage of the talent behind the bar! It does get very busy and service can be hit and miss. The food is so-so. Asian focussed menu with smaller dishes that are meant to be shared. I wouldn't go for a meal again but it is a gorgeous space with great lighting and exposed brick and my favourite (and unique) view of Gastown.
Purdey
Food not the best (food was a bit too salty on some dish and bland on others) but definitely the bartenders make a killer drink! The service was okay, as it was not very busy on a Wednesday night. The noise in the lounge was good and I enjoyed my experience. Overall experience. Thumbs up.
Gracecheung604
One of my favourite dish is the Red Snapper Ceviche ($11). Thinly sliced snapper, marinated in a sesame oil dressing, toosed with tobiko. Truly delicious.<br/>It was topped with pea shoots and white sesame and a sprinkle of black pepper. The snapper was sliced thick enough so that the dressing didn't over-cure the meat.<br/>The pea shoots were really fresh and just tossed in the dressing, raw and natural. With a touch of lime and chili oil, the flavours were fresh and bold.

HORRIBLE SERVICE!!!. I was at this restaurant last night with a friend. We got there at about 6:30 on a Friday night. We were there to have a couple of cocktails, some dinner and just hang out but from the minute we talked it, we felt like we were already being rushed out. <br/><br/>After having 2 dishes, our server took my plate and utensils away even though we were still expecting another 3 dishes. And no, she didnt take my plate to replace it with a new one. We had to ask for another setting when our other dishes came. <br/><br/>We then ordered a pitcher of sangria. I kid you not but after each sip of our drinks, our server came over to refill them like she was trying to get our pitcher emptied as fast as possible and move us along. Trust me...she was not doing this because she was being a good server! <br/><br/>As we were at the end of our meal, we still had 2 glasses full of sangria when another person who worked there (I really hope he wasnt the manager because this was the rudest thing ever!) came up to us and said "excuse me ladies but we have a beautiful couple waiting for a table..." Basically he was asking us to settle up and leave!!<br/><br/>I know that this is Gastown on a Friday night but what kind of service is that? We spent $101 for 2 people and felt hussled out. We were there for less than 2 hours and wanted to sit and chat after our meal and the staff there made us feel like a nuisance rather than customers. <br/><br/>My friend and I left with a really bad taste in our mouths and a horrible dining experience. <br/><br/>Though the food was ok, I would never go back to this place because of its service. I really hope the owner/management reads this review because if this is how they treat their customers, they wont be open for very much longer.<br/><br/>I am spreading the word about my experience at The Diamond because I wouldnt want any one to have the same experience especially when you're shelling out $11 for a Vietnamese sub.

Service was friendly and space was cozy but unimpressed with what I ordered. Lemongrass noodle bowl was horrible and I would not get it again. Others around enjoyed what they decided on so I guess I was just unlucky.

Not what I had hoped for.... My husband and I visited the Diamond last Saturday and probably will not go back. The design is great, very cozy and the atmosphere is fun. However our server obviously had too many tables. She was very scare and not timely with taking our order sheet. On top of that we realized very quickly that we needed to order our drinks way ahead of time because the bill time was easily 10-15 min. Also, it seemed very strange that they don't carry Crown Royal or Captain Morgans Spiced Rum, just cheaper versions, (Wiser's) gross. <br/>During our meal the Duck soba soup had taken 30-45 min. at which point the Manager came over to say they had to remake it from scratch and it would be 10 more minutes. He also said he would take care of it, but unfortunately when it did come out it was cold. The server took it back and when it came back it had obviously been microwaved, without even the care to replace the fresh vegetable garnishes, (Julienne carrots and pea shoots). They were soggy and limp. Very unfortunate and showed the lack of care and communication between the kitchen staff and the serving staff. Too Bad.

... In the Rough...?. First of all, I apologize for the cliched title. It seemed necessary though as the restaurant at first glance was wedged between a cheap 1$ pizza place an a scuzzy Indian restaurant i.e. "the rough" (I'll admit I've never been to either place so I'm judging on looks only).<br/>It turns out the front door actually leads to a stairway that takes you to second floor right on the corner of Powell and Carrall. Very nice.<br/>So what do we know about the Diamond? <br/>1) Mark Brand - co-owner of Boneta (Apparently also the 2006 Van Mag Bartender of the Year)<br/>2) Josh Pape - ex-Chambar bar manager <br/>3) Sophie Taverner - formerly of The Cascade (probably my favorite place in the city)<br/>4) Christie Peters [Exec. Chef] - ex- Chow and Feenies<br/>Sounds pretty good so far. At least we know the bar will be stocked. And with that I'll start with the drink menu:<br/>The rustic looking menu is bound to a piece of thin wood by metal studs with a leather cover protecting the sheets. Inside is a hefty list of cocktails, some original and some classics, organized into 6 something-for-everyone categories. Having been there twice now, I've tasted probably about 18 of the 24 offerings and I must say that I'm impressed. Each drink has clearly been designed with careful thought put into it right down to the glass that holds it. The most recent time I went I sat at the bar and watched as the skilled bartenders crafted drink after drink for the Diamond's thirsty patrons, tasting each drink with the tip of a straw for quality assurance. The age of the cocktail is here. Notable drinks are the Chrysanthemum (a licorice heavy cocktail with absinthe as the main spirit), the Tequila Martinez (simply put, a martini with a tequila base) and La Bicycletta #2 (a refreshing wine based drink for the ladies). Although on a side note I will admit that the two best drinks I tasted were not on the menu. We asked the Bartender (Jeff, I believe) to make us something special and we received an Aviator (Gin, Equal Parts Sweet and dry Vermouths and Dubonnet) and one delicious gem that I never got the name of. It was a Bourbon base with champagne and I believe Amaro Montenegro. Fantastic!<br/>On to the food... The menu is just a page with about 16 items on it. Each item has a short description and a check box next to it in which you jot down how many of that item you wish to order (reminiscent of an all you can eat sushi joint). The tapas-style food is served as it is made and is perfect for sharing with one or two other people. Notable dishes are the Rock Cod Ceviche (Served with a lime-soy sauce and topped with pea shoots, a personal favorite,) The Duck Noodle Soup (A duck broth with soba noodles and 'some' duck) and the Gyoza (made with sloping hills pork, easily the best Gyoza I've had). Big thumbs down to the Short Rib Sub. Being a huge fan of Short Rib anything I had high hopes but was disappointed when all I could taste was the overwhelming excess of Dijon. Now, I'll admit that I have a pre-existing bias against anything from the Mustard/Horseradish/Wasabi family, but I appreciate them used sparingly to enhance a dish. This "sub" relied too much on the sauce and the flavour of the short rib was quickly drowned in a mustardy mess.<br/>I will go back to the Diamond, probably soon. It's a hip joint with a good vibe and a classy diverse drink menu. Although I may just go next time for drinks and appies and not necessarily for Dinner as the Menu, though it has some great offerings, is still nothing terribly special.

Easily one of the best places in Vancouver for drinks. Excellent mixed drinks that you're unlikely to find anywhere else in this city. The food isn't as memorable as the booze.

Here’s the cocktail-focused The Diamond, right beside Shitar.

The setting for our latest girls night out was "The Diamond". A place that is known for their cocktails, and one that we have been eyeing. You might miss this second floor Baja Mexican restaurant if you aren't observant. A sandwich board and an open door fronting stairs are what you are looking for. After walking up two flights you are greeted by a lovely open space. Hardwood floors, brick walls, and green wall paper patterned with their diamond logo. We choose a table with a view; our scenery, "Chill Winston" (insert link) across the street. Towards the end of the night, as the sun set and the lights came on, this was quite the sight; a romantic view on a balmy night.   Our table was wooden like our chairs, both were well used and worn in, with the corresponding elbow markings and ass grooves to prove it. The main light fixtures were beautifully adorned with deers busts, looking proud with antlers large. And when the restaurant's overhead lights was not enough to illuminate the room,

I had a Colin’s Lawn (only cuz that’s my dad’s name): A refreshing sake & mint concoction. I really wanted this sparkling wine + Pear nectar drink but they no longer offered it :(<br/>

I know the chef and menu have changed since the last time I was there. Perhaps there were other changes as well? The difference between my first experience there and this one was night and day. Last time I didn’t want to leave. This time, I was ready to move on (and to Al Porto at that) after one cocktail. I think I’ll have to give it another try before I write it off…
Eating With Kirby
The Diamond boasts an ample list of creative cocktails and ordering drinks was a no-brainer as it was one of the main reasons we had come here. I ordered a Colin's Lawn upon the recommendation of the waitress for a light refreshing drink, and it was exactly what I had in mind! I love mint, sake, and sparkling wine, and this went down very easy - I could easily have downed a couple of these.

The charcuterie was a delightful platter of cheese and meats, including speck, prosciutto, salami, Guinness cheddar, brie, as well as what seemed like preserved pea

When I describe the Diamond to friends, I often use the phrase "wonderland of beauty." Truly everything is beautiful here: the staff, the filament bulbs, the stag's head chandelier, the exposed brick walls, the view of Maple Tree Square from the windows (especially when it snows!), the craft cocktails, and even the exquisite vintage glassware. Happily, it's an old-timey and warm type of beauty that was obviously not conceived in a Toronto boardroom,

Flo has always wanted to try out The Diamond, but they were always too full. We were having a little SFU get together and when she asked if they had space. Flo jumped at the chance to go. We went over to the Diamond one night for dessert and drinks. I would never have known this place existed if I wasn't such a foodie (aka crazy about trying new restaurants...cork and fin anyone?). Even though it STILL took us a while to find the entrance.
