Review Peckinpah - Vancouver

JS L
if you are looking for southern style BBQ in Vancouver. look no further. it is worth the trip from Vancouver or on your way to Whistler . good food, great staff and a beautiful view of Chief. too late to take decent pictures as the whole family gobbled up everything. Hush Puppies -a must have!

One star because tip is default to 20% and guests were not given option to choose a different amount. Also service is non existent, we visit when there's hardly any guest in the restaurant but had to try very hard to waive down a waiter to take our order when they avoid eye contacts and also we have to ask for cutlery ourselves when they should automatically provide for the table. Food is okay, chicken wings are very very dry, pulled pork is decent; however, don't think I will ever come back.

Expect disappointment and you won't be disappointed. An appropriate quote for Peckinpah. I guess we (unfortunately) expected too much! I was really excited to eat here and was looking forward to it all day, seems I expected a bit much, spent a bit of money and left still hungry. Had to order at the bar (completely fine) but the ribs really need a steak knife not a butter knife as they are tough as! Tasty, but a lot of work to get at the meat. Honestly the copper place across the road much better service and value for money We got 2 half racks of ribs, 2 beers, large fries and coleslaw for $78 incl tip. This is what we got. Worth almost $80? You decide 🤔

I came up from Vancouver in February having been to their original location in Gastown multiple times before. I was so excited to eat here again! Unfortunately, the smoked brisket was so dry and salty!! We had ordered a full pound and I was so disappointed. The wings were better and hush puppies were as good as I remembered hence the three stars. But $35 for some dry and very salty meat…. I know this isn’t the norm because a bit later, a friend ordered some brisket and it looked so juicy. I guess I am disappointed they decided to serve this dry cut to us (and a full pound at that!) which is substandard for them.

We went to the Squamish location for the first time. It felt not as good as their Gas Town location. Food was ok but I had hoped for better. The smoked chicken was very dry and I wouldn’t order it again. Brisket was good around the fat but a little dry elsewhere. Pulled pork was good. Brussel sprouts and cauliflower were good, hush puppies were apparently really good (I didn’t have any), mac’n’cheese was probably the best thing I had. Service was almost non-existent even though the place was about 10% full on a Friday night. We stood near the door for at least 5 minutes while a male server took orders from the one table with ppl actively ordering things [slowly] and proceeded to go make them drinks [slowly] while we continued to wait. We got tired of standing around so asked if we could seat ourselves and they said yes so we sat next to that table. Then we waited a good 10 minutes or so until our order was taken, during which time the male server visited the table next to us once or twice and a female server who appeared cleared another table with nobody there anymore [slowly]. Once she came to our table, she was very nice though. Overall, this was not an experience that inspires me to go back when there are lots of other options near by. It’s a shame, since there are not that many good barbecue places in the lower mainland.

Food/portion was okay, bbq chicken and brisket were a little hard but we liked the fried chicken and their homemade sauces. Pork ribs were sold out. Friendly staff.

Great food and views - family friendly! Ribs - Loved the ribs. If you like your ribs falling off the bone, you might not like these. I think ribs that fall off the bone are great for sandwiches, but I personally prefer my ribs with a little chew to them, like they make them here. The meat is still very tender just not falling apart. Ribs like this also usually have more flavour and texture variety b/c they probably didn't wrap them so it lets the smoke get in there more. Brisket - We requested the point (fattier) and it did not disappoint (pun intended). Love to have a little of the Carolina sauce (yellow) to dip it in. Delicious Pulled Pork - Pulled pork was decent. Not as good as the ribs or the brisket but tasty. We were also there later in the day and there is a chance we were hitting the bottom of the barrel with the pulled pork. Still 5 stars for flavour. Potato Salad - delicious and lots of flavour. Lot's of dill! Service - we came when it wasn't very busy but the service was good and the waiter was friendly.

The beef brisket was one of the best I've had. So tender. The house barbecue sauce was tangy with just the right heat. Cornbread was super too.

The first thing I noticed was the smell of smoke. .. that delicious charcoal cooked meat on a bbq smell. We tried the wings with a variety hot sauces, some tender as all get out brisket and some collared greens. Sooo yummy for a quick bite for lunch. The wait staff were great and very friendly. Would defintely go back again. Gastown rocks

We shared a platter with a pulled pork sandwich, mac and cheese, coleslaw, and two pieces of fried chicken. Everything was amazing, it was closer to four pieces of chicken, plenty of food for two. Fried chicken crust was ridiculously tasty. Staff was friendly and the environment was comfy and relaxed.

Best meal I had during my stay in Vancouver. The brisket was amazing, as was the pulled pork. The drinks were great too...what really set the place apart was the service. We were constantly given attention, but not overly so to the point of being intrusive or hounded. Also, Connor was full of great advice on other places to check out, both to us & other visitors.

best fried chicken ive had since touring in the south ! plus the girls there treat Bean like celebrity he is and he loves them as much as the beef brisket

Always love this place, never had a bad experience with their food. Being a smaller location sometimes you have to wait but it's worth it. ďż˝

Working in Vancouver for almost 3 years. I am from Central Texas and cook or eat BBQ regularly when home. Peckinpah really does "...put some south in your mouth". As you might expect, Brisket is my go to protein and I am pretty picky about it. Peckinpah's Brisket could stand up beside some of ours in the state of Texas. The brisket as a black sticky bark, with minimal spices that let the gentle smoke flavor shine through. The meat itself is quite tender, with nicely rendered marbling that keeps the brisket unusually juicy. That kind of attention to detail comes from this Pitmasters' obvious dedication to the art of low & slow BBQ. Oh yeah, if pork spare ribs are your thing, PECKINPAH'S GOT'EM! Plump, meaty and well rubbed ribs. These are smokey and well seasoned, but not sloppy with sauce. They are addictive and ribs this good can be found no where else in Vancouver. If ya'll are looking for legitimate southern BBQ or always wondered what it was like, head down to Peckinpah right now ! You won't regret it.

Peckinpah has the authentic Southern BBQ. Last night, I rolled in with 13 rowdy friends mere minutes before last call. These guys totally hooked us up with a seriously tasty smorgasbord of BBQ and other delicious treats. Service was super efficient and spot on. I know there are a lot of options, but I highly encourage anyone looking for good food in Vancouver to go. A+

Best food we had in Canada! The Brunswick stew was way too spicey but everything else was superb! Local beer was good, loaded cornbread was fantastic!!! Service was great too!!

Had a great dinner tonight! Stumbled in after a long day of sightseeing. Mac n cheese was so good. Fried Oreos for dessert. Comfort food, friendly staff (thanks tiny) and good music. A great place to land after fun day in Vancouver!

3rd NOMNOMNOMNOM of my week eating downtown Vancouver? Chef James's wicked brisket, ribs, cornbread poppers, and fantastic sauces are to die for. If you can get a seat at Peckinpah, I highly recommend the bourbon...pairs well with a meat coma!

Your brisket is incredibly good!!! So tender, it melts in your mouth! I highly recommend it!! Also, the cornbread is amazing and the hush puppies are even better!! Peckinpah's will definitely be on our list next time we visit Vancouver!

I've been here quite a few times over the years and have always left satisfied. Went last night, the shop wasn't crazy busy. I still waited for ages for my not-even-warm brisket sandwich. Serving staff never asked how it was, did we want another drink. We had to ask for the bill at the counter. I wouldn't waste my time going here again. So many options in Gastown - this place has really slipped.

Also great survice and awesome food. I really enjoyed the Bourbun Sour

Food is good, especially the stew! I forgot to catch our servers name, but she was absolutely fantastic (curly hair, fun lipstick). We'll be back!
