Review Fritz European Fry House - Vancouver

The absolute best poutine I have had the chance to try. The gravy is savory and smooth. Cheese curds are awesome. Best of all, the fries stay crispy even all the way at the bottom while covered in gravy. Just AWESOME.

This was the best poutine I’ve had in Vancouver so far. Perfect gravy to cheese ratio. Perfect crunch on the fries. Perfect portion size and value. Perfect service! Only recommendation I’d make is to have some pre-set poutine combinations made by your lovely team! Will be back!

Been here twice already and would definitely be going again. They make the fries in front of you so that it's fresh and crispy and their gravy is to die for! The portion sizes are really good and even a small one can be shared by 2 people if you are looking for a light bite. My personal favorite is the pulled pork topping and would recommend others to try that as well. Their dips are also really nice!

Perfect spot for a late night snack after the bars! My first time having poutine here, and it didn’t disappoint. The gravy and cheese curds were delicious and the fries weren’t soggy.

I do love the gravy at Fritz. The fries are nice and crispy, and the gravy has a strong pepper flavor and a great texture, which seeks the deal for me. The cheese isn't the absolute best, but it does work well (good texture, but not squeaky on my last visit). This is my favorite poutine restaurant, one that I crave more than anything else. It is great to get an order and then go for a wander while munching on that magnificent taste experience.

Just look at the picture , how tasty it is!!!! My go-to place when im craving for poutine!

The poutine here is definitely worth a try. I’m from Montreal and it’s the best I’ve found on the west coast. Very tasty and good portions. Just make sure to call the place before going because they were closed early despite the times displayed. Disappointed wasn’t able to get more.

The staff was great. Food was great and fresh. Lots of cheese on the fries

Decent poutine but pricey. I liked how it was flavorful but not salty. Unfortunately I found a piece of hair in mine.

We got the chicken poutine and mango curry chutney and chili chutney. The poutine was good, the chicken was tender and flavorful, the gravy was good and the fries were good too. Overall a great place to try Canadian poutine for visitors , tourists and locals. As for the dips they were what we would call aioli rather then chutney but they were good none the less. We liked mango curry better.

Been here a few times in the late night, for they are open past 12. Fritz has a good selection when it comes to toppings, vegan options, and dips. The only problem is affording all of them. A small plain poutine alone is $6.50. Small is no understatement either. The last time I came here, my stomach ached afterwards, as did the stomachs of my 2 other friends. I’ve come here other times and been okay, but somewhere like Smokes Poutinerie is more of my go to.

As I walked by this poutine restaurant many times, I would love to try their poutine. Here I ordered a small chicken poutine. Who took my order was probably the owner of the restaurant. She was very nice and friendly. Her service was very well even though this restaurant was like a fast food place.

The poutine was very "Canadian" and local. Although I ordered a small chicken poutine, the portion was quite big and filling. I was full the whole afternoon after eating the poutine by myself. I should have shared it with a friend. The gravy tasted great; the chicken was actually marinated by some curry sauce or powder; and there was big chunks of cheese. There were some salt, black pepper, vinegar, and other spices that I could add to the poutine as well. All the ingredients matched well with the fries, so it was called chicken poutine. The only downside was that I was very thirty after eating the poutine.

Overall, I had a good eating experience here. If I would go back for fries, I would order their Fritz with their special dips.

Poutine is certainly my go-to comfort food and guilty pleasure. In Downtown Vancouver, I have tried several poutineries (La Belle Patate, Mean Poutine, Smoke’s and Frites) but Fritz European Fry House has got to be one of my favourites next to La Belle Patate. Located in the Granville Entertainment district, Fritz is a small poutinerie with limited seating and a walk up window. It opens late (ie, closes at 4 am Friday and Saturday) so it’s definitely for perhaps some “drunken noms.”

I visit Fritz each time I visit Vancouver - even had it everyday 4x in a row. Make sure to add extra cheese. Makes a huge difference. LOVE their original poutines!

After walking around CandyTown in Yaletown, some friends wanted Fritz. Anyplace I've never tried I'm game. Fritz wasn't good nor bad. Only problem is the gravy is very salty and very peppery. Everyone keeps talking about how good this place is, well after finding out all the drunk people come here to eat at 3AM, it explains it. Price seems a little high, but rent in downtown is expensive. Next up La Belle Patate!

Looking for a delicious poutine spot in downtown Vancouver? Check out Fritz European Fry House at 718 Davie Street in downtown Vancouver. The poutine is amazing, they've got fresh crispy fries, with great tasting cheese curds! The prices may be a bit high, but it is delicious!! You have a number of options for dipping sauces as well! Try the Jalapeño Mustard, you won't regret it! We probably have to say its the best poutine in downtown Vancouver.

The hot dog – the bun was soft and warm and encompassed the sausage which tasted like a regular hot dog so it was okay. The poutine – the fries were crunchy and tasted like potatoes, the gravy was just the right consistency and very peppery. The cheese curds were good and melted nicely – nice and squeaky too

My friend had gotten a pretty decent Groupon for them, and when we had tried out their poutine, it was pretty delicious, though on the salty side. The meat on top of the fries, cheese and gravy made it tasty and filling. A small cup of fries was $5 and with a topping of pulled pork, it was an additional $2.50, bringing it to a total of $7.75 (with taxes) for a tiny cup you would get for an ice-cream scoop. The flavour and texture of the pork is really good, but I thought that $8 was too expensive for fast food. But it was for a special occasion – Sheepie has just become Canadian, and he hadn’t really had much poutine, so I thought this was a perfect way to truly become Canadian – lol.

Not too bad for fast food but not the best. A small shop with poutine that reminded me of potato and gravy at Kentucky Fried Chicken. The gravy is slightly salty but at a good temperature to melt the cheese curds and make them gooey and stretchy. Definitely not the best in Vancouver, the poutine at the Flying pig was in a much higher league than this. Probably wouldn't go back but not bad as a quick fast food snack.

I'm on a personal mission to try every poutine that Metro Vancouver has to offer, yet Fritz manages to remain at the top of my "poutine go-to" list thus far.

They fry their fries on the spot, but they do a pretty good job of pumping out the orders. They offer five different sizes depending on how hungry you are, or if you are in the mood for sharing. Aside from your standard fries, gravy, and cheese, you have the option to customize and add different meats like the Montreal Smoked Meat (above). You can just get plain ol’ fries too, and kick it up with one of their 19 different dipping sauces.

Hard not to Like. In case you haven't figured out yet that I love street food, let there be no ambiguity. A place like this is right up my alley. The fries were excellent but the magic is i the dipping sauces... All I can say is that you need to try them to see what I mean. Great food all around. and the prices are really very, very reasonable.

Charming customer service. Rich gravy and amazing flavoured mayo. The garlic mayo is to die for.

Do you have a hankering for some fries, gravy and cheese curds in the late hours of the night into the wee hours of the morning? Fritz is open late and is a great way to satisfy your itch for some poutine. It's not particularly cheap, but the fries are cooked perfectly and you can never go wrong with poutine anyhow.

Best Fries Best Service!. I love that when you walk in you are greeted by a family who has owned this establishment for 15 years now! Fresh handcut fries, double layered poutine (depending on the size, you'll get 3-4 layers!!) and an array of hand made sauces and toppings. The gravy isn't the yucky watery gravy, its nice and thick with plenty of spices and nice melted cheese curds. This is definitely a place where not only the food is bomb but the staff is wonderful serving people tip 4 am and getting the order pretty fast.

Nice to see an ORIGINAL family business thats been rocking this place for a long time now.

Good choice for a snack. Fresh and yummy.

Deeeeeeeelish!. This was our first time to Fritz - and the owner was such a gem! You can tell this woman is proud of her food and it shows!

We had the pulled pork poutine, and it did not disappoint. We orderd 2 sauces, chipotle and blue cheese - both great, but to be honest - the poutine did not really need them, it was great on it's own.

We will definitely be back.

Go with the basics. A small regular poutine really hits the spot. Chicken one according my friend not good. Chilli seems too over powering.

It's cool. fast awesome ser.... It's cool.
fast awesome service.
RickJames
The chicken poutine is the best in town and man oh man their jalapeño mustard sauce is awesome!

The owner is super nice

Delicious!. I've tried just about every poutine in Vancouver, and the one here is most definitely my favorite. The only thing I would have to say is that the 'regular' gravy is lighter and a lot different than what one might expect. If you're fond of or used to poutine with a 'darker' or beef-flavored gravy, I would highly recommend you try it with the vegetarian gravy. Even if you aren't vegetarian. Trust me, you won't even know the difference and you certainly won't regret it!
No Dessert Im Full
Not bad. The hotdogs are pretty good, I quite enjoy the assortment of toppings to choose from. The poutine was.... not bad.... not very hot, the curds were still very firm which is ok i guess, i like them to have a bit of heat to them so that they're a little mushy. I enjoyed the real bacon topping on them too. The prices here are very reasonable as well! Now they just need to get a liquor licence :)

Boring, rather go to McDonald's. I went into the shop thinking it was going to be awesome (since there were SO many award stickers on the front of their door). The thing is, the fries were not special and tasted like any other fries you'd get. The only special thing was that they had a vast array of condiments that they scoop into a cup for you. You're only allowed a specific amount of it so choose your flavor wisely. However, you could also go home and make this yourself. I think the #1 reason why they have a lot of business is because they are opened late (3am) on party nights (the weekend and some odd days) so it's a great late night stop for greasy food.

First time having poutine. I really enjoyed it. Fries were crispy even after be loaded with gravy and provided great texture. Tasty gravy and the cheese curds added a delicious creaminess. Yummy!
Smokeyjill
These are great fries! The dips are great and so many to choose from. I had the med fritz with chipotle dip, so fritzin good. My husband had the medium poutine, holy amazing.

Bad fries, bad poutine. I don't know why this place is so popular.

I've had REAL Belgian fries in Bruges and Brussels, and I have to say they are NOTHING like the fries at Fritz, in a bad way. Let's just say fries from White Spot taste better than those I had at Fritz.

My gf and I knew everyone was crazy about Fritz' fries and poutine, so we thought we'd check it out and ordered a medium poutine.

Fries - tasted like they were cheap frozen fries, had a strange dry, powdery texture to them. Not that crispy either. Not a fan.

Gravy - really salty, but not in a flavorful way. Just salty and a bit watery.

Cheese - not milky and cheesy like the Squeaky Cheese Curds used at places like La Belle Patate. I'm not sure what cheese they used, but it melted really quickly into a very runny substance and it didn't taste like anything.

I was very disappointed, especially since it wasn't exactly cheap.

Best pouting and garlic dip! Great especially after a night out

I like it, you do get a lot of fries, but it is expensive, should come with a free dip, won't go often.
Steve Parm
2 medium, 1 with chicken which made it deceptively heavy. Plus 1 water and one sprite, came to $18.50 The gravy was a little salty. The place is a hole in the wall, expect to stand if it's very busy

Below expectations. It was fine, it really was, but I was left disappointed because of the buzz. The fries weren't crispy enough for me, and were just generally not very memorable. I might try the poutine at some point, but I won't be rushing back.
Lilsweetie
Their poutine prices are very close to la belle patate's on Davie. They offer 4 sizes. We opted for the largest - the bucket $10.50 - and between two people this was just the right amount of food. They gave ample amounts of gravy and cheese. It was bordering on too much gravy (if that is possible) and at the bottom it resembled soup with fries in it rather than fries with gravy on top. This wass delicious but I think I still prefer the Belgian Fries on Commercial.

Is it 2 AM? Do you have the munchies?. Well, if it is, it just might be time for Fritz. Sure, it's small and you are going to have to throw some elbows to work through the drunken crowd but it's worth it. They do give me the stink eye when my American nature shows and I turn down their vast array of sauce for simply good ol' ketchup.

Oh, and if you have a drinking team mate, you can divide and conquer. One of you can fight through the crowd for fries. The other can cruise across the street to Tsui Hang Village's window and get some Mongolian beef or some other sort of greasy but good Chinese food.

Oh, back to Fritz the fries are yummy. I can't comment on their poutine. But my Canadian friends seem to like it.

Well cheers - go get drunk - and then go get some fries!

Really Great Tasting Poutine. I have been hyped up to try this place out since a few months ago. Finally got a chance to get out to downtown and ordered a plain poutine. The fries were slightly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, the cheese curds were soft and all melty, the gravy was consistent (not too salty, not too bland), AND not to mention the cheese and gravy were layered with the fries and not just on top.

Price is reasonable, but overall it's worth any price. It's so good. I will be back to try the other mix-ins.
Tess
I come from a Franco family and no this is not traditional Franco poutine, but it's great in its own right. It's a Dutch fry house not a québécois poutine place. The staff is amazing. I go every 2 months yet they always remember my order. I highly recommend it.
James Ratcliffe
Pas de la vrai bonne poutine!. Not so good. The fries were too dry, and the cheese was soft. Good Quebec-style fries are a little soft and very slightly sweet. The cheese should stay cold on the inside to give a cool texture and the all important squeak. They aren't supposed to melt completely. The cheese also tasted more cheddary than regular cheese curds. The gravy was fine.

If this is the best that B.C. has to offer, I'm waiting until I'm in Quebec (or some parts of Ontario) until I have another poutine.
Headcougar
All that and a bowl of Poutine. Another hole in the wall recommended by a server at another restaurant. It was great but had to eat fries outside due to the lack of room.

Good quality fries, fantastic dipping options. Parking a little tricky between 3-6 pm. Good take-out place (very little seating).
Truth In Advertising
Far better choices available. A few years ago, this was the late night spot for munchies, but no more. The French Fries can only be prefabbed bird shit and the gravy must be the owner's discarded diarrhea.

For a far better choice, go a few blocks up the hill to La Belle Patate for REAL potatoes and poutine.
CoutureChef
Quick Comfort food. This place has some great poutine, portions are a little overpriced but it is still tasty. Better poutine can be found downtown as well as commercial.

GONE DOWNHILL. I'm from Ottawa-Hull, and a huge poutine fan. I used to enjoy Fritz, but not anymore. Now the fries are ho-hum, the gravy so-so and the cheese curds just don't cut it. Pity.
Super5d
Dope when drunk!. This place is dope.
Chris
Great Poutine and a friendly staff. Open late too. Could you ask for more?

Posh Post-Bar. Where to go after hitting the bars and clubs? Fritz's of course! Belgian fries with a multitude of dips to choose from, or simply poutine.
Food Porn Director
To live or visit Canada and not have tried poutine is downright blasphemous. Americans have chili cheese fries, and Canadians their poutine.

... fries slightly dry although they were freshly made; gravy a tad bland; really not much to say about these fries, they were that unexceptional, not bad per se, just avg; really don't see what the fuss is all about...

Late night snacking fried up before your eyes. I came here with the sole intention of having a place to write today’s blog post on. Getting off work late means not a lot of restaurants are open and available for dining. But I knew “Fritz” would be, so here I was pulling up right in front. The owner watching, to be able to later tell me I had the best parking spot on the block. Their decor is themed after a medieval castle. With simulated stone floors, worn wooden benches, and lanterns hung from decorative beams. They even had their own crest on the back wall. Seating is limited, but majority of their guests take their fries to go and use the benches as a waiting point in between. A few seats are equipped with arm rests, and these arm rests are equipped with holes. The holes are meant as holders for their cone shaped fry cups. As is the case for the iron stool, that serves the same purpose. By the looks of things this was a father – daughter team working from behind the counter. They

In the summer, it’d be an alright place to hit up because you can just take it and eat as you go…but in the winter, kind of a doghouse fighting for the few benches

we’ve had la’s version of poutine (from animal ) and we loved it. but we were excited to try the real thing in canada! when we searched for poutine, fritz was one of the more popular places who specialized in french fries smothered with gravy. …i mean just look at their menu. we just went with a standard poutine (large)… no toppings and no special dips (even though i wanted to try them all). i always thought “poutine” fries were just gravy fries and didn’t realize that cheese curds were an essential part of this canadian dish! food : freaking delicious!!! fries came out hot, gravy was even hotter. despite the heat, our little cheese curds didn’t really melt (mind blown). gravy tasted great and was my favorite part. oh, and the fries were crispy. delicious. atmosphere : very small. there is only one little table/bench inside. we just took our order to go...

Melty cheese and ordinary gravy aside, I still enjoyed the poutine I received from Fritz. They benefited tremendously from being made with quality fries. Was it the best poutine that I’ve ever had? Not even close.

I would recommend this joint for a quick stop if you are in the area with a few friends. Made you feel that you went to Europe for a quick 20 mins.
Food Queen
The large was pretty big but next time I would probably get the jumbo for sharing. The fries were hot and fried fresh in the store while we waited and they were still crispy by the time we were able to sit down and eat it.

A while back ago, I tagged along on a visit to Fritz after hearing good things about this place on Davie St. Here, I ordered a medium poutine with a side of Cajun Ketchup . The dip was just "fancy" tasting ketchup, really. The poutine was pretty good though and I liked that the cheese curds were layered through out the fries. As for the gravy, it was on the slightly salty side but it didn't stop me from finishing the bowl clean. I'm personally not crazy about poutine in general but this place definitely hits the spot. Not bad at all.
Janileu
While LBP is infamous for its traditional cheese curds that don't melt, Fritz is known for the exact opposite -- cheese curds that melt in your poutine. This was good in its own way; I do like my melted cheese, but just thinking about cheese curds squeaking amuses me oh so much.

So I actually had this Friday night and totally forgot I went! I go to Fritz late night, to get my greasy fix. It’s not too expensive and a lot better than throwing your money at McDonalds when you’ve had a couple drinks. I love getting a small Fritz (just fries) and nibbling off friends’ poutine. To be fair, the quality is either hit or miss here. They’re either ridiculously good, or rather plain tasting fries. To ensure quality, you can choose from a number of their dips. I got curry ketchup, which wasn’t made in the usual style I’m used to. It reminds me more of a plum sauce and curry than curry ketchup. I’m much more of a fan of the poutine if I can handle the guilt. I would give them a 3.5/5! Good for a quick late night snack that won’t cost you very much ($3-6). I just wish there was just more consistency, although I do keep coming back… Must mean I like em ! The post Fritz European Fry House appeared first on gastrofork .

We went to Fritz last because we knew that it would be a sure thing....

As part of our downtown food adventure , Kish and I visited Fritz for a small poutine ($4.50). This is the only other store I've been in (apart from La Belle Patate ) that sells mainly fries/poutines and nothing else (except for hot dogs). The store was s

french fries are like hugs :Davie: It's no secret I love fries. Well, potatoes more generally, but especially this deep-fried variety. I miss Montreal poo-tin like crazy. I miss Toronto's dirrtttyyy fry trucks. It might be safe to say I miss food as much as I miss my people. I can't very well replace my Toronto friends, but I can replace food. Then I could use that food to replace my feelings...I think that's funny. I know my friends back home are rolling their eyes. I was successful in finding the perfect french fry. My sister took me to Fritz last week. Then I went again this weekend. I tried to go today, but they don't open until 4:30 pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. It's obvious I just can't get enough of these: That's mango-chutney dip. Now it was described to me as "AMAZING". I thought it was okay. It's like mayo with curry. Fritz's fries are fryer-fresh, piping hot, crispy, well-salted, and delicious. It tastes amazing whether you're tall, short, female, male, drunk,

I've tried out Fritz European Fry House twice in the past few months. The first time, was after a quick snack over at the Roll Factory (and before an awesome meal at Gotham Steakhouse ) at about 6:30PM. My friend wanted some and I agreed to share a large poutine with smoked meat on top ($9.50). Maybe because I wasn't super hungry and wanting to save space for an expensive meal at Gotham, but the poutine was good, but not amazing. I liked that the fries were crispy and airy in the middle. The cheese curds were quite large, and melted with the hot gravy. There was pretty decent chunks of Montreal smoked meat. When we went, it wasn't busy at all, and maybe us and 2 other people grabbed some poutine. It took quite a while to get our food. I guess at this time it's not busy at all, so he doesn't have fries sitting around, so everything is fresh. Problem is you have to wait. We waited about 10 minutes. The second time was just last week after a night out drinking. There was quite a lon

Fritz European Fry House is still on of the most popular places for people to get poutine in Vancouver. Along with Mega Bite Pizza, it's common for locals to hit up Fritz for midnight munchies in downtown Vancouver.

Today’s post, despite it is related to a restaurant, it is rather about a dish. As you could read from the header, that dish is poutine. What is so particular about that combination of fries, cheese curds and gravy? While I am not sure if there is such th
