Review Dinesty On Robson - Vancouver

Vero Vero
Almost all foods tasted great. The portion of mapa tofu was huge, so it was more than enough for 2 people. And fried rice was also delicious. It was not too salty. And shrimp with peanut was super tasty. I will order this one next time as well. The taste of peanut was really nutty. And it was harmonious with other Chinese cuisines. Chicken with peanut was okay. I did not feel like to eat chicken on that day. Soup dumpling and fried dumpling were average. The fried noodle was great it was almost gone before other foods were finished. It was that much good. I will be back for sure.

First time trying soup dumplings... delicious!! I visited Dinesty twice on my trip to Vancouver and food was hot and tasty both times. Although service was pretty slow, it was expected as there are staffing shortages as a result of the pandemic and because it was very busy. Location is ample and tons of seating for downtown Vancouver. I would not recommend the other dim sum but would definitely order 2-3 orders of the pork soup dumplings!

We went here based on a google review and we were not disappointed. The menu is incredible and we will have to go back to try more. Dinesty is famous for their soup dumplings and they lived up to the rave. Absolutely delicious, and especially warming on this very cold Vancouver night. We also had pork potstickers and the fried noodles which were spectacular. We will come again on our next trip to Vancouver. Sooooooo good!!

We visited this place on a cold night hoping to find some hot soup and dumplings. We ended ordering the soup dumplings, spring rolls, Dan Dan noodles, hot and sour soup and the fried buns. The spring rolls and fried buns were really good and, the entrees were a standard fare.

Tried their dumplings for the first time. Their Xian long bao are very flavorful and comparable to Din Tai Fung. Flaky scallion pancake was super delicious but VERY oily omg. Their vegetable & egg dumplings and toon buns were tasty too tho quite garlicky. Overall a very nice experience!

Went in here after seeing the long queues and if it’s called ‘dumpling’ house then I gotta try it I thought. Xiao Long Bao in East Asia are absolutely amazing. Singularly Moist. Deliciously fluffy. However, this place was a massive let down. The soup was ok but meat was far from meeting expectations. I also got spare ribs with rice. These were also ok. Massive expectations but mediocre food. It’s not bad but it just misses the spot! especially with all the build up with the lines and being called a dumpling house!

Great atmosphere and food. Fast service and kind staff make for a great experience. 🔴WARNING🔴 Do not order beef noodle soup.

Our favorite soup dumplings place in the city. As close as you can get to the real thing. The original is the best. Always have had a good experience at Dinesty in Vancouver. The bean sauce noodles here are great too.

Excelente lugar con muy buen servicio y muy buena cocina, vale la pena cualquier plato, hay alguno muy picantes pero con muy buen sabor.
Muy recomendable relación precio calidad

We’ve been here several time before, to be honest the food quality is just average standard, but the service is Really Really awful and rude. We walked in at 2:30pm, and the waitress told us that they already closed . But the “open” sign is still on besides the entry, Seriously?? And then she said their kitchen has shut down. If the your kitchen closed then what else will you provide in a restaurant? your attitude on pokerface? Then why do not you just change your open hour directly to 2:30 without make client confusion and been refused with a nonsense excuse.

This is one of our go-to places in the West End, it is so good. Excellent menu variety, the soup dumplings are excellent. When we finish trying everything on the menu I’ll let people know what our favourite is.

I am a dumpling lover, and this place had one of the worst services I have ever experienced. It killed my excitement for dumplings completely.

First, I ordered a dumpling and it wasn’t available. And it is supposedly the best seller dumpling there (pork and shrimp).
Then I ordered szechuan chicken and the waitress informed me that the chef cannot make it because it takes too long.
And throughout my time at the place, the waitresses extremely rude and totally disinterested.
Lastly, we went at 9 and the place closes at 10, and she gave us the bill and asked us to pay while I was in the middle of taking a bite, it was so irritating and disrespectful.
To top it all, when we didn’t tip them because of the bad service, they came and asked us WHY DID YOU NOT TIP US? I have never had any place come to me and question me about that.

Never going back.

literally SALIVATING each time i think about how juicy and succulent their classique xiao long baoz are. they are quite efficient and get their dishes out pretty fast!

The most I can say is that it's edible... If you're gonna visit I suggest sticking to dumplings cuz that's actually good and quite refreshing. Anything else is just sub par and tastes like I could have bought the microwave dinner version.

Video review on my youtube channel: vancity food crew dinesty dumpling house
.
I went here with a friend for lunch because she wanted last minute dimsum. We ordered the shrimp and pork shaomai, shrimp scallop and pork soup dumplings, and the beef noodles with satay sauce. The noodles were a bit overcooked but tasted fine. The shaomai were very juicy and tasty. The soup dumplings were kind of small so I didn't like that. Overall its decent and not too overpriced, but we didn't order the more expensive entree plates. Stick with dumplings and the cheaper noodle plates for a decently priced meal.

A franchise that has several locations across Vancouver, this one fares as a favorite for simple and quick chinese food. Supposedly their style is Shanghai because of their soup dumplings, their variation is slighty ranged across chinese cuisine. Their xiaolongbao soup dumplings are a must order, I am a big fan of the savoury pork ones. Family friendly and quick service is guaranteed for fair value prices.

Great selection of Chinese food, modern, clean, fast - efficient service, and last but not least, good value price!

Reservations are always a good idea - there is usually a lineup. Staff is brusque and efficient and your dishes will appear as they are ready.
You read the reviews for Dinesty-Robson and it comes off as a food destination but when you get there it's just another watered down Chinese restaurant. In fact, it's basically an upscale Hon's Wonton House. Which is funny to me because I've read all these reviews about complaining about the wait time? Just go to Hon's up the hill. Go to whichever has the shorter line - problem solved. And the whole Shanghainese thing? Having lived in Shanghai - don't believe the hype.

My strong opinions about this are based on going there twice: the first time I went for brunch a week ago and got various xlb's, cucumber salad, "potstickers", xo fried rice, Shanghai fried noodles, etc. The most tasty dish was also the most simple to make - the cucumber salad (and for $7? Ouch).

My companions complained about the xo fried rice not tasting of xo and the waitress went the the kitchen and came back with something along the lines of: there is a pre-determined amount of xo sauce in the xo fried rice and it is not possible to add more xo sauce.
Ok? So, what she's saying is basically you can't customize the xo fried rice just like you can't customize food from a Chinese food counter at the mall, or a sandwich at Starbucks or Jugo Juice....because it's all pre-made.

And the second time tonight. I wanted to try just the plain xlb's and the beef noodle soup and found both bland. Even the vinegar to go with the xlb's was watered down. Though the beef noodle soup had a generous portion of noodles and beef - the broth was just salty and oily. I tried to add some hot sauce to the broth but that just made things even more salty.

I don't get it why this place is popular and my quest for the best beef noodle soup in Vancouver continues.

In-house hand-made dumplings. This place is delicious. Recommend the beef noodle soup and dim sum items. Service isn't great and they don't take reservations, at least not on weekends, which is annoying, so expect to wait about an hour.

This place has inconsistent food and service. During our past two visits they didn't have beef noodle soup. I called ahead to make sure they had the noodle soup and they did so we dropped by but then learned they didn't have any of their appetizers. The steamed dumplings were as good as expected but the tendon in our beef noodle soup wasn't cooked properly and was chewy and inedible. It took several servers to finally rectify the situation as it seemed no one seemed to know how to deal with it. It was disappointing because we were looking forward to our meal.

Dinesty Dumpling House had been recommended to me by friends who used to live in Vancouver. I’m a big xiao long bao fan and apparently they have the best around. Our table of two extended to become a table of five, I don’t think the wait staff were too pleased but it was great for me as there were more dishes I could try! To start, pork xiao long bao & pork buns. Xiao long bao was on point. And super cheap, I could go there and just eat plates of them! The pork buns were quite oily and I wasn’t as sold on them. Much prefer to stick to the steam dumplings but you never know until you try! Next round, scallop, prawn and squid stir fry with vegetables. I’ve been craving vegetables and this did the trick. Beautiful and fresh seafood and Veges with a simple white garlic sauce.

Thanks once again to H. for the recommendation! Went out for a ladies lunch and we were in walking distance to Dinesty Chinese Restaurant on Robson. From the outside it might seem a bit understated but inside it was quite hopping. Upon entering you are welcomed with a glassed-in open kitchen where you can see several chefs preparing various fresh dim sum. We were seated immediately but the restaurant was quite full and very busy.

Although Dinesty won many awards, they are average at best, but in the West End, they do fill the void for acceptable Chinese food. It's a decent option for those who live in the area and don't want to make a trip far. It's very friendly to customers new to Chinese food as there are photos for every menu item and the interior is very clean. There is usually a wait for a table but it shouldn't take too long as tables are in and out pretty fast.
Karen
It's average Shanghainese food given the location. The XLB were as expected -- juicy, porky, thin dumpling skin. The satay beef fried noodle and pork wrap were tasty and fragrant. The appetizer shredded chicken with starch sheets (雞絲拌粉皮) was really bland though. It's supposed to have peanut sauce on it but this one only had some tasteless brown sauce on it.

We love XLB, so we decided to try Dinesty Dumpling House as that what they are known for. We went to the Robson location, which is very busy so we took that as a good sign. After a twenty minute wait, we were finally seated and ordered the original XLB, XLB with crab meat, and the chicken and corn soup. The dumplings were not very good, we felt it lacked flavour. The crab dumplings were mildly better, but still very average. The soup was good, but it's pretty tough to mess up with a chicken and corn soup.

Overall, prices and service here are decent but in our opinion the best XLB in the city is still at Long's, we wouldn't recommend Dinesty.

Dinesty Dumpling House is the kind of restaurant you would go to for good Chinese food that is affordable and consistent in terms of quality and taste. The ambiance of the Dinesty is modern – it’s not a mom-and-pop shop. In fact, they’re one of the largest Chinese restaurant chains in Metro Vancouver with 5 locations. While the Robson location was intended to cater mostly to Westerners, every time I would go there the diners were mostly Asian. Many of them are the typical Aunties and Uncles you would find at a Chinese restaurant in Richmond. The Dinesty on Robson is the closest location to me and I have dined there twice in the last while.
GoodGirl
Richmond location tastes wayyyy better! My favourite restaurant! I came to this location just to give it a try. The noodles were over cooked... soggy! Probably won't try this location again..

I tend go to Dinesty when I want to get my XLB fix. However I find the Robson location lack the same kind of flavouring and consistency as their Richmond locations. It's always busy with line ups and busy crowds. Their fried rice cakes tend to be sometimes be too oily, sometimes it's okay. It's hard to be consistent when it comes to fried dishes. I would prefer to go to other Dinesty locations.

Always visit here when in town. Get there early cause it fills fast. Food is very good. Us and our kids love the Xiao Long Bao. The cucumber salad is a surprise too. Very refreshing and spicy. Everything else we have tried is very good too. Very loud, so kids (which we have two under 4) blend in and don't disturb anyone. Always recommend.

Dinesty Restaurant is one of my go to places for Xiao Long Bao. My friends and I were looking for a place to have dinner and we realized we haven’t been here for some time. Something about hot soupy pork dumplings made us start to drool. It’s my secret comfort food.

Since it was a busy Friday, we waited in line for about 20 minutes for a table of 5. People do finish up quickly, so you won’t ever have to wait an unbearable amount of time. You can also call ahead to make a reservation if you hate waiting.

Some items are a hit and miss, but if you order the Xiao Long Bao, you’ll be very happy.

I had a dream that I went to Dinesty and ordered all of the variations of xiaolongbao at once - a dream I hope to make a reality, soon. While the regular xiaolongbao are undoubtedly delicious, the ones with kim chi are really delightful as well.

Well, well, well, here I am...back at Dinesty. In my defence, I went to their Robson location this time! ;). I'm not a huge fan of chain restaurants, but Dinesty is an exception. They just opened up a new location in Burnaby (across from Crystal Mall) and from the looks of it, it's already a success!!

Something really odd happened when I went up to the counter to pay...the waitress handed me the bill and she was like "That's not including tips...do you understand?" (In Mandarin.) The way she said it was a bit patronizing...she made it seem like I was 9 years old or something...

The Robson location has the best service out of all of the other locations imo. Maybe it's due to the fact that Robson is more of a touristy area?

What makes this location different is that they have lunch specials - which come with an entree, 4 pieces of XLB, and a dessert!

I love this place! We tried 3 types of dumplings -- pork, chicken, and kimchi soup dumplings. The hot and sour soup was also delicious and perfect for this rainy day. Of course we got some gai lan so we could have a veg and be healthy. Then we had dessert..... Sesame paste buns and taro buns and mango pana cotta. All we can say is Nom. The kimchi dumplings and the sesame were the favourites!

The food may or may not be good. I don't know. I walked about half an hour to get there on a Friday night. They advertise as closing at 10 pm and I got there with plenty of time at 9:35 pm, but as soon as I walked in, a "waitress" shouts out "We're closed," without so much as looking at me. I told her I walked a long way and they're supposed to close at 10 pm and it was only 9:35 pm, and she said, "Sorry, we served our last food," or something. I guess they don't give a rat's you know what about one customer .
Tania
Honestly, the food here was decent, but nothing amazing.

Xiaolongbao was pretty tasty, and okay.
The seafood salad was a rip-off though - don't order it! It's just some shrimp, with some jellyfish and lots of chicken.
The stir fried vegetables were slightly oily (but the sugar snap peas were so sweet!) and the hot and sour soup was apparently overly sour (lacking in depth and flavour).

I came here about a year ago...But first of all, I don't wanna be observed as some passive aggressive human being going on here to bash on restaurants. I'm nothing like that. Actually this is my first review on any restaurants. I understand the restaurant is a hard business and very hard to please. However, after talking to many groups of friends that they thought it is best to post my experience here online. The food was moderate and you can totally get better chinese food elsewhere in vancouver that isn't so expensive. Below is my detailed experience on the most terrible food dining experience I've ever had.

It was during the busy dinner hour so I made reservations beforehand with my friends. I'm sure It happens to us once in awhile that once you get to the restaurant and the waitress goes "I don't have you in the system". Sure, I didn't mind that happened so the waitress said it'll be about a 10-15 min wait. We waited and she approached us, " we have a table you can eat at but you have to leave in an hour." We were famished so we said "sure". We were seated and ordered. This type of asian restaurant had those receipts printed of your order and when the food comes the food gets crossed off the list. I had ordered 3 dishes including their famous dumplings. 2 of 3 came in about 20 mins and the other one took quite awhile to make. Because they were so busy, I just waited around another 25 mins. It was cutting close to that 1 hour mark, so I asked one of the many waitresses serving us. She said " oh sorry! we gave it to another table." So we waited another 15 mins and it never came so we got fed up. I asked another waitress (like those asian restaurants you get many servers) updated her about the situation and that I didn't want that dish. I'd rather forget about it and take off. She seemed friendly enough to asked the other waitresses just waiting around and came back saying "don't worry, it'll come up now." So I waited for about 10 mins. I saw my dish from the kitchen and a waitress picked it up. She walked over to my table but placed the dish to the table next to mine. It was an old couple that just ordered their food about a min ago. I called over whichever waitress that was available to help and she spoke to her other coworkers and figured that dish was suppose to be on my table. So she came to my table and said "im so sorry", turned over to the old couple's table and said "sorry, your food is still coming up but this dish is suppose to be theirs (pointing at me)." She took the dish and handed it to our table. :O I'm beyond shocked! I demanded my bill and said "I'm not eating this." but she nagged me and refused to give me my bill. I didn't want other customers to see this chaos. I could not eat this dish having the poor couple watch me. I am so embarrassed that I ate lost my appetite and just ate one to be polite. I am a 25 year old student. I am poor but I always tip between 10-17% depending on the service. This was the first experience where I did not tip. I know it's an asian place so they don't have good service. But I just want you guys who are interested in coming to this place what I went through. So I paid for my food and almost walked out the door. The waitress chased me to say "In Canada, there is a tipping rule where you go to a restaurant and give them 10-15% to the waitress...." I stopped her "uuhhh..well, I've been here for 2 hours and you never got my order right..." The hostess came over (probably the owner), the waitress scurried away and the host told me "No, it's ok. Don't worry about it." From the moment I walked to this place all the way to the end, it was torture. I hope you like halloween, then I would suggest for you should go here. It's like getting tricked every moment and no treat.

Easily the best soupy dumpling in Vancouver. Food is delicious, nice size. The sticky rice dessert dumpling is really awesome. We like the Shanghai rice cake, hard to resist even when I'm trying to reduce starch.

This summer, I've been venturing in Richmond and Vancouver trying similar cuisines. After each new food adventure, I reminded myself that I should just stick with Dinesty on Robson. To us, they are the best. Friendly service, adequately staffed, just the right food portion, meat dishes are generous, not greasy, the food does not cause heart burn or CRS ( Chinese Restaurant Syndrom) afterward.
JK.
The food is consistently good! Servers are quick on taking the order, prompt refills of drinks, overall good customer service! The food is flavorful, right amount of seasoning, not overwhelming with spices, good simple Chinese food. I like the fact that the menu is by pictures as most Chinese restaurants have such long menus! Pictures help!

I went to this place on a weekend, I was told this place could get busy so i made reservations first, on arrival a hostess greeted me and I got my seat in less than five minutes, I ordered two baskets of shanghai steam pork soup dumplings, two dishes of shanghai stir fry noodles and one order of pork bun, all were very good I like the location and the food, I would recommend this place to anyone looking for shanghai style food in downtown.
July 16, 2015 · by ThatShanghaiGirl · Decided to have some food from the motherland! Haven’t had shanghainese food for awhile so I decided to come for a bite with a friend. Service was meh obviously, but the restaurant is much more modern than most Chinese food places, pretty sure it’s because its downtown. Food wise.....

I only had the opportunity to order take-out here because I was waiting for a seat at Nero next door. The soup dumplings were soggy and cold when I picked it up and I think they prepared it too early and left it in there. The pot stickers on the other hand were hot and fresh but more or less tasteless (not enough salt). Overall, I'd come here for a sit-down experience and not a sub-par take-out experience.

After hearing great things, we decided to finally try Dinesty dumpling house on Robson. A must order here which is not pictured are their soup dumplings, they are award winning and do not disappoint! In the picture is the Mongolian beef, deep fried bun with condensed milk, spicy green beans, Shanghai fried noodles, and hoisin beef wrap. We would order everything again except for the beef wrap due to lack of flavour and we found it a little dry. Everything else was very flavourful and we highly recommend visiting!

"Dim Sum?" "Yes, let's go to Dinesty" "We've already been to Dynasty, let's go somewhere we have not tried before" "But we have not tried it" And that was true, we have tried Dynasty but not Dinesty . Dinesty , whichever way you pronounce it, is a good place. Proud of their noodles, they show them to the world. It is not your typical dim sum place or menu, but with the right selection of dishes, we enjoyed a delicious dim sum style brunch. Given all noodles and dumplings are made in-house on the spot, we focused on those. Three different dumplings, one noodle dish and one beef wrap was good enough to fill up the tummies and have a good sampling of Dinesty quality. In fact, their beef wrap is one of the best I have tasted - the beef not overly spiced, the sauce already inside the wrap as opposed to a side, and they crunch elegantly. Now I am writing about it and want to go back - why are your locations so far my dear dinesty ? Very good dim sum. Dinesty on Robson has very good dim sum. It isn’t the best dim sum I’ve ever eaten. That distinction goes to Jade Garden, in Seattle. However living in Spokane, where the median quality of Chinese food is somewhere between mediocre and downright terrible, Dinesty on Robson was a real treat. I grew up in Central California where there are a lot of ethnic Chinese. I really miss good Chinese food.

Their selection is extensive and authentic. It’s nice to see a menu devoid of Americanized Chinese food and pan-Asian food. Living in Spokane for twenty years, I’ve almost forgotten what that feels like. Although Dinesty doesn’t have trolley service it does have an extensive small plates menu.

Dinesty prices are very reasonable for the portion size and quality of the food. Their soups are huge. If only one or two persons are dining, I would really suggest only ordering a small soup. A large portion soup equates to small bowl sized portions for six to eight people. It’s easy to over order, as everything looks and tastes so yummy. We ended up taking about half back to our suite. We ordered on Friday at lunch and the leftovers were still good, heated up Monday at breakfast.

The staff is Chinese and a good percentage of the guests are also Asian (always a good sign). The service was very good. A few of the staff had language barriers but were very eager to please. Those with limited English skills were not primary servers. Primary servers were fluent in English. Everyone gave us great service. We would go back in a heartfbeat.

You gotta eat here. Love the soup dumplings get the xo one. The spicy fish stew, wow lovely spice. Pork noodle dish is fantastic. Everything is amazing, way better then the richmond location. The cooks in the richmond location were picking their teeth with their fingers and the service people had attitude. Never in Richmond again. Robson from now on, for now.

If you’re in the mood for dumplings but don’t know too much about Chinese food, this is a good place for you to start. They explain in the menu how to eat the (very hot) Soup Dumplings without burning the crap out of your mouth. We ordered Steamed Pork Soup Dumplings, Pan Fried Beef Buns, Pork and Shrimp Potstickers and the Green Onion Pancake. All good, not amazing. The service was good, even though they were very busy. Worth a try!

Soup dumplings were really good, especially the pork and kimchi. Weren't very large and not much soup in them but did have excellent flavor. Door says they close at 10, we got there at 9, were told last call was 9:30, at 9:35 they asked us to pay the bill and the front door was locked with a closed sign up at 9:40 when we left. Great place, just get there early if you don't want to be rushed.

Agressive for Tips - Good Food by the way. Good Food made fresh with so many dishes to choose.
Personal favourite Spicy Chicken and noodle (forgot the name but still remember the great taste)...

However, tipping is an issue for the management.

Be aware if you chose "other" lower percentage amount than recommended (mandatory) 15%, 20% or 25%, you can be in trouble.
They will come after you asking for explanation "Why So Low Tip"??? and make you leave more...

I think they should pay competitive wages to their employees instead of paying them with Enforced Tips.

Overall Good Experience with Food but not with Management

My friend and I were regular customers. We went earlier today. Found the food portion has changed, smaller! And the dishes that we ordered, sour and spicy soup was salty and feel like it was just soy sauce and some chili flakes in it. Pan fried xiao long Bao, the dough isn't that chewing as before. Also the soup inside was quite oily. The three spices boneless chicken was salty but not much taste of it. That's definitely not how it s supposed to taste! Only the spicy seafood fried rice was good but portion was small and some rice didn't really stir well. Also, after we are done, my friend couldn't find a way out from her seat since it was too crowded and all the ways had been blocked by other customers. I had to pull the desk towards to me a lot to get a tiny gap for my friend to come out. Seriously, I understand how you would maximize your business in any way. But this just not the right way to do. I don't usually write a negative review if it does not bother me that much. But I was really disappointed how they have gone down hill. After we walked out from the store, my friend told me to leave a review for this. For the past 5 years, we have tried many places together. This is the first time that she told me to.

The best Chinese food in town. My favourite Chinese food in Vancouver. The waitress Ting Ting is the best!

Very good food. Spectacular dumplings and fast service.

Good food !. I love the dumplings here, they have glasses that separate the dining place from the kitchen and you can actually see the chefs cooking inside. The dumplings are so good but a bit pricey. 6$ for 5 tiny dumplings. The other dishes were ok, not outstanding in anyway. I ordered the satay noodle and it was really bland and flavorless.

Why don't they answer the phone? I can't call to reserve or get info so I'm going to go somewhere else.

It is nice place to eat some REAL Chinese food. I love their dim sum section. Some items like 腐皮鸭肉卷 and 生煎包 are really tasty. They place is always busy and i would say the price is fair too.

Terrible service. Probably the worst service I've ever experienced at a restaurant in Vancouver. They acted like they did not give a damn about us (three people). We left, before we ordered as they were so unhelpful. Actually, none of the wait staff could speak English.
Mama Bear
Food is good but I could taste the msg in it. The three dishes that I asked for no MSG still tasted good. I would eat there again although the service was awful. The server we had was not too friendly, she even made a face when we cancelled the dessert a minute after we ordered it at the end

Too Sweet. We have eaten at Dinesty once every week since it was opened earlier this year. When it started the food was very good and authentic. It was far better than other Chinese food in the West End neighborhood. However, since a month ago, the food has gotten sweeter and sweeter every time we ate there, even dumplings were getting sweet. Two weeks ago, we had to return a "Mongolian Beef" back to the kitchen because it was so sweet like eating honey. Yesterday, we had to return a "Beef and Green Onion" back to the kitchen. It tasted like "Sugar Beef". We couldn't believe that a simplest fry beef would be so bad. We think they might have hired a new chef recently who has never eaten real Chinese food before. We discussed the problem with the manager on the way out yesterday. She told us that next time we should tell the waitress that we don't want sugar in our food. But, we have decided not to eat there any more until it improves. If you like sweet Chinese food. Dinesty is a good place to go.

They offer a wide selection of different dishes, from soup base noodles to fried rice. We ordered up some famous dishes and tried it out. This is the soup we ordered. It is Dumpling with chicken in clay pot soup. As stated in the name, there was dumplings, vegetables, and chicken in the soup. The soup came hot and it was very delicious. This is the steamed buns that we ordered. It is to be eaten with meats stuffed in the middle.

I was craving Shanghainese food so we decided to check out Dinesty Dumpling House’s location on Robson for a quick Sunday lunch. Luckily, we didn’t have to wait too long for a table but there was a constant flow of people coming in and out of the restaurant. We were able to watch the kitchen work their XLB/dumplings magic though. No wonder XLB’s are delicious – they make every single one by hand. Clichés don’t lie, everything tastes better with the human touch.

Dinesty’s original Richmond location has been one of our favourite Taiwanese/Chinese restaurants over the past few years. However, making the commute to Richmond is not always easy and we haven’t been to Dinesty as often as we would like. Lucky for us, we discovered Dinesty’s new-ish location on Robson street and took the opportunity to try their food and see how they stack up against the original. Proper method of eating their delicious dumplings! Dinesty’s specialty dish is Xiaolongbao (traditional Shanghai dumplings), and they provide a great, quick guide for the best method of eating these broth filled dumplings. This was nothing new for us since we are not new to the cuisine. However, it can be a great guide for people who are not familiar with these dumplings and may accidentally burn the inside of their mouths. The menu for Dinesty’s Robson location is similar to the menu from their Richmond location.

...we pull open the doors of the restaurant to enter a steamy warm cavern where the smell of steamed pork mingled with pungent vinegar tickles my nostrils. All at once, it’s like I’ve been wrapped up in a big warm asian hug where overbearing but well-intentioned asian mom barks, “How many?!” at you.

In general, the location of Dynasty is pretty convenient as it is in Downtown Vancouver. The quality of food is pretty high too. However, when it comes to pricing, it is abit on the expensive side. That said, the service was decent and I would definitely come back again

oth the eggplant and cucumbers were delicious but the dumplings were so good we ordered a second serving.

Dinesty's signature item; extremely well made, the wrapper was so thin that you can practically see through it, and the best part was it didn't tear until you wanted it to (with your teeth hopefully); loved the jus inside; only thing is the meat was just the slightest bit on the bland side, but the texture was very fluffy;

Whenever I have a negative experience at a chain or franchise business, I tend to avoid any of the other restaurants (ABC Country, Banana Leaf , Sushi Bella , Swiss Chalet…). This is somewhat unfair because every chain and franchise business is operated differently so one location may be horrible while another is great. In this case, the franchise is Dinesty Dumpling House. I have visited the location in Richmond before and the food was horrible along with the service. Not only was there no service, but the staff was also rude! However, BF has been wanting to try Dinesty at the Downtown location for months. He is also the same person who had dinner with me at the Richmond location and vowed never to return! I guess in the end, I did not mind trying the Downtown location just because I was in a good mood. Plus, I was not really hungry since we went to Rodney's earlier. Picking up a pair of stilettos that finally arrived after a couple of weeks of waiting did not hurt either, hehe. Walking in, the manager immediately stormed past us and closed the front door while yelling in chinese, "who didn't close the door?!". She then made eye contact with us after slamming the door so I asked for a table for two. Although there must have been a miscommunication on her end because she waved us away like we were pan handlers and rolled her eyes… umm? After standing there for a while, a waitress approached us but did not say a word so we asked if the restaurant was still open. With a response of yes, we asked her for a table for two. At this point, it seemed like deja vu with the Richmond location (rushed atmosphere and unfriendly staff) and I sort of wanted to leave but we already seated. The waitress was neutral though and there were no dirty looks or a negative attitude. Also because we arrived fifteen minutes before the last call, we only ordered a few items to sample and decided to revisit if the food tasted good. STEAMED PORK SOUP DUMPLINGS ($5.95). The xiao long bao is the

We had a really great time at Dinesty Restaurant and we'll definitely be back (and we'll bring some friends in tow....all the better to order more dishes!). With the wide and diverse menu, you can order a really nice selection of food for an interesting lunch or dinner - some full meat/seafood/veggies plates, steamed & fried dumplings, soup and rice dishes.

Going downtown to meet a friend for dinner, I’d heard that Dinesty opened a new location downtown and we decided to try it. e made reservations, arriving a few minutes early, but were seated immediately. We started with the xiaolongbao (literally “little basket buns”). They’re kind of a must-have in any shanghainese restaurant These are steamed dumplings filled with seasoned pork and aspic. These were very good. The wrappers just about perfect. They are thin enough to bite through easily, but thick enough to contain the soup and filings without breaking open when picked up. There was a good amount of soup inside, and the pork filling was very good. Decent flavor and seasoning. It’s served with a dark vinegar based dipping sauce. We followed up with pot stickers These are steamed and pan fried dumplings stuffed with seasoned minced pork. Shape-wise these are bit unusual, they’re elongated and open on the ends, but this has some merits. Since it’s narrower, it probably cooks a

Disappointing restaurant, pork dumplings were too small, service was rushed, most of the foods were misses...

Our second new food experience of the day turned out to be just as enjoyable as the first one. Beneath the nice, thin skins were bouncy, chewy mochi and perfectly sweetened, thick red bean paste. The ratio of red bean paste to mochi to bun skin was likewise just right.

This was a restaurant that I wish I could've gone to more often. Usually Chinese dishes are meant for sharing, so it would've been nice to have had more people to go to this restaurant with. This is a much better version of Asian Legend, and their dishes are very good.

The steamed pork dumplings are one of their signature items that they are known for. These are a must order when you dine here! The dumpling wrapper itself is delicate and had a great consistency that isn’t too sticky or thick. Inside the dumpling is a perfect mouthful of pork and delicious pork juices. I could eat these all day. The marinated beef with soy sauce wrapped in pancake is a good dish if you want something small to share. The pancake is slightly crisp, although, I would prefer it if it was a bit more crisp. The inside is filled with green onion, cucumber, and tender savoury slices of beef. The Shanghai fried no

Dinesty's dumplings are smaller than most, but even more savoury.

Dinesty is finally open on Robson Street in Downtown Vancouver. Dinesty took over the previous location of Jang Mo Jib and completely renovated the location. Their menu is similar but there are a few new additions. The menu now has all pictures too! The interior is pretty nice and has lots of space. It’s been quite popular even though it’s only been open for a very very short amount of time. It’s best to make reservations. Their kitchen is quite large as well. You can watch them all at work. They definitely have less staff than the Richmond location, so when its a full house, service is slower. Xiao Long Bao ($5.95) tasted the same and fantastic as usual. It’s a must have item! Steamed Kimchi and Pork Dumpling ($5.95) made me very intrigued so we ordered them. The waitress warmed us that this would be quite spicy. It wasn’t spicy at all! Not quite sure what she was warning us about. This dumpling didn’t taste very good at all. Best to stick with the original XLB. Pork and Prawn Potst

The new location of Dinesty has been opened for a few months now, and I was delighted to give it a try with some friends last month. I have been to the Richmond location several times, and hoped that the food would be just as good. We started off with the Xiao Long Baos (obviously), since it's a tradition at most Shanghainese places, sometimes for dinner but always for lunch! As with the Richmond locations, these are deliciously soupy, and the skin is just chewy enough to hold all the delicious pork and soup inside. Another steamer basket arrived filled with Shrimp and Pork Siu Mai . The pork layer is on the bottom with the shrimp on top. I found the pork a bit dry but the shrimp was nice and juicy. I tend to deconstruct my food when I am eating, so it might have been just fine if I ate it as it was served. This dish is new to me, it's Deep Fried Chicken With Asparagus And Ham . The coating on this was nice and light, and the chicken was really juicy. I didn't find the mayonnaise sauc
