Review Templeton Restaurant - Vancouver

David Greer
A fine home-style diner with great food. This is such a fun spot. Clean and beautifully restored. I stopped by for breakfast. Great service to go with my pulled pork pancakes. Lots of fresh coffee. Come and enjoy.

This spot is Awesome!!! It’s a cute small cafe with home style cooking. It has the cutest decor and the staff is amazing. We tried other breakfast spots in this area and they don’t compare. The breakfast is hot, fresh, and delicious. Everything was cooked to perfection. My hot cocoa was great too. We were visiting from Texas and this was one of the spots that reminded us of home with the food. Nice portion sizes too. The do have a cute clean restroom through the kitchen if you are like me and always need to go. You have to visit this spot wether you are local or visiting.

It’s worth the wait. A throwback to a 1950s diner the Templeton is a great spot for a bite to eat. It’s got a wonderful menu and prices are super reasonable the staff is friendly and attentive. so if you have time to spare I would definitely recommend having breakfast or lunch there. Coffee was good refills were free and I didn’t try the milkshakes but they look scrumptious.

I did not appreciate the quality of the pancakes enough the first time I came here. They're not world-class but definitely better than most in town. Bonus points for getting as much syrup as you want. The milkshake was good but didn't live up to the high expectations set by The Templeton's multiple features in online articles. The pecan pie was flavorful but a little brittle for my taste. I nitpick a lot but the overall experience was definitely memorable.

Food was great and the original 50's style was a great step back in time. Staff were really nice and prices reasonable for good quality food. I will definitely visit again

Had breakfast here last week and it was delicious! While In vacation last week I was searching for a place that offered your usual bacon and eggs/ pancake place that wasn’t a a chain restaurant or didn’t try to pass it self off as a high end fancy place that charged $30+ for breakfast. I discovered this place on Google maps and the reviews seemed very good and the pictures looked amazing! So I decided to make the 20 min walk from my hotel and discover this place. It’s very small place and I almost walked bright by it except I noticed the long line up on the street sidewalk. There was about 10 people in front of me. And I usually can tell when their is a line up it means good food! I only waited about 5 min then a hostess came out looking for a single patron, and that was me! She sat me right away. Again a very small place probably can’t seat anymore then 30 people at a time? (guessed) has booth seating and seating at a bar like an old 50s dinner, which is exactly the vibe they are going for. The menu has something for everyone, both lunch and breakfast items. Bacon and eggs, sausage, French toast, pancakes, eggs Benedict, home fries, burgers, sandwiches, fries, milk shakes. They also serve alcohol, and apparently make a great boozie Milkshake. I had eggs Benedict made with Pulled pork, rosemary Home-fries and a side of sausage with an orange juice to drink! It was a great breakfast and decently priced too!.

Stopped in on a rainy day. The restaurant is super small, and there could be a wait but the service and taste make up for it. We had bloody Mary’s and Mimosa’s. We all had a great breakfast, a lot to choose from. We had the Eggs Benedict and the the Truckers Breakfast. If you’re in town, stop by!

What a great old-school diner! The decor has been preserved since the 1950s and definitely adds to the dining experience. I ordered a Mac & Cheese with pulled pork and fries. The pulled pork was definitely the highlight, whereas the mac & cheese was just alright. Would recommend giving this place a try!

Simple and tasty food. This place is great for vegetarian and vegan people. The decor is also very nice. Bit slow service but staffs is very friendly.

I didn't expect much from Templeton because of its location, in the middle of a party street! But I was pleasantly surprised by their burgers. The breakfast items looked tempting as well but didn't get around to trying those.

I would happily go back to try out their breakfast or brunch!
Jen
Simple, clean food, great vegetarian and vegan options. A small place but it fits the personality of the restaurant. Near the end of Granville Street before the bridge so it's easy to miss. The decor is also really cool! Something that I'm head over heels about is the presence of a diner booth jukebox in every booth. So rad.

Had my heart set on trying this place on my first night in Vancouver. After my flight was delayed, I didn't arrive until 30 minutes to close but they graciously took me in anyway. I was troubled with what to order but finally decided on the curry tofu scramble plus veg bacon. It was lacking in flavour and a bit dry and needed salt and hot sauce to liven it up. The bacon was also forgotten and I was charged for it anyway, but this was sorted. That said, despite having what should have been a supbar experience, my lovely waitress and the adorable ambiance still made it a a pleasant meal.

This is a small, but popular diner located on Granville, not far from Davie Street. They serve a menu consisting of the usual comfort food that you'd expect from a diner. I had their Pulled Pork Pancakes, Mangled Eggs and a side of French Toast. The food didn't blow me away, but was still quite tasty. The staff was very friendly and cheerful however, and their prices are reasonable. This is a place that's definitely worth checking out.

Pulled Pork Pancakes ($13.50):
3.5/5
This consisted of pancakes layered with pulled pork. The pancakes themselves were a bit tough, but still tasty and had a nice chew. They were a bit bland on their own, but tasted nice with the pulled pork, which was very tender and juicy, and flavourful with a nice bit of sweetness that I quite enjoyed. While I do prefer the versions from Lucy's Eastside Diner and Red Wagon, this is still a pretty good renditions.

Mangled Eggs ($10.50):
3.5/5
This consisted of a croissant that's filled with scrambled eggs, brie, and a choice of either bacon or veggie bacon (I had the bacon), and was served with a side of rosemary potatoes. The croissant was nice and buttery, and had a great amount of filling. I really enjoyed the brie, which were rich, creamy, and flavourful. While the eggs were fluffy, I did find them to be a bit too bland, even with the bacon. The rosemary potatoes were crispy with a nice fragrance, but also a bit bland and underseasoned.

Side French Toast ($3.50):
3/5
The bread was toasted well, but not really fluffy, which is what I prefer. It was also a bit bland on its own. This was not bad, but not memorable either.

Summary:
Food: 3.5/5
Price: 4/5
Service: 4/5
Overall: 3.5/5
Recommendations: Pulled Pork Pancakes, Mangled Eggs

One thing I love about Americana is the whole diner aesthetic. The puffy bench chairs, jukebox, old posters of soda for 15c, all that crap, I love it! So imagine how excited I was the first time I walked past The Templeton in Downtown Vancouver? Upon looking in, it’s the dinerest looking diner I’ve ever seen, with pictures of old stuff embedded in the tables and individual jukeboxes in each booth. Slice of 50’s and all that.

A true Hidden Gem in the heart of downtown Vancouver.

This is a classic 50s style café, complete with the jute box at each booth.

Amazing service by the friendly (and only) person in the front of the house. She was managing the service and the bar all by herself.

We had the poutine with ‘Fake gravy’ … and I would order it again in a flash. It was delicious. Wife loved it and though it was a huge portion, we actually managed to finish the whole plate.

A simple menu, large portions, the ambiance of a cozy diner, and reasonable prices. These are all the hallmarks of this great establishment.

So this is the restaurant we went to on our first date, 2012. We come here about every 6 mos. always good food & good service. I took a pic of the yummy poutine but forgot to take a pic of the amazing chicken strips and Caesar--cuz I just dug in! Hubby got the special, a yummy pasta dish. Great place, fun environs, amazing food every time!

The Templeton is an old fashion diner located on Granville Street.

The food is pretty solid. Good comfort food!

The one thing that we really enjoy is the decor -makes the whole dining experience. We love those old stools and jukeboxes.

If you are in the mood to be swept back a few decades then you have to stop in.

Give it a try!

Long wait on Sunday for brunch around noon. Even after we sat down we still have to wait for almost 30 minutes for the food. Friendly service but the food was just average. Maybe I'll come back again for dinner next time.

As always, the food was above and beyond !! I've gotten fond of their mac N cheese(: && their floats are unique! However new waitress complained about a %5 tip instead of %15 ?? Won't stop me from going back (;

This place was recommended to me for a future trip to Vancouver. I'm here on a business trip and The Templeton is a comfortable walk from the hotel. Upon arriving the first thing we noticed was that it was completely empty. I get that Vancouver's crowds prefer to dine later than a guy from YEG but it's still makes you wonder about the establishment when it's empty. We decided to trust the Zomato rating and grabbed a seat. This is a classic 50s style café, complete with the jute box at each booth. The beer is cheap during happy hour and happy hour lasts much longer than most so we were off to a good start. I ordered the quesadilla but I should have ordered the hamburger. The quesadilla was fine but nothing special. What was special is that the beer, dinner and a healthy tip was under $20! That is impressive. I'd come back, but probably not for the quesadilla.

After reading such good reviews about the food and portions I had to try this place. We went here for breakfast and I had their "big a$$ breakfast". It was a mediocre portion at best. The pancakes were the best part of the meal, they were OK though I wasn't overly impressed with them. The staff are friendly enough. The restaurant does have a cool retro theme going on, but if you're looking for great food or big portions this place isn't for you.

Good breakfast diner. Not necessarily great though. Food is decent for the price and service is friendly. Usually a decent sized wait on the weekend.
Christine
Small grungy diner. Had to wait approx 30 mins to get in for lunch. We went because of it's high rating, but food and drinks were nothing special so I'm surprised by the rating. However, staff were fantastic and it definitely has character!

Greasy spoon diner that has good service and retro charm. I had the farmers breakfast which was arguably my favourite breakfast dish of all the hipster brunch places I've been to in Van -sometimes the basics are the best! Would visit again!

It isn't trying to be anything it isn't. If that makes sense? Simple diner food. Good prices. Had the BLT and my wife had the burger. Our kids ate off our plates. Nice and simple. Great beer and ice cream too. Would visit again in a heart beat. Big bonus....not sure if the juke box works but great music a mix of new and old. Heard The Shins and The Boss to name a few.

a very oldish looking restaurant in a nice way, but at the same time seem to be a little bit of tidying up can also goes a long way as well. seems like the ornaments have become things that can be cleaned and fixed, and if it's can be used again it'll be definitely a plus to the whole environment feeling.

as for the food i tried the mushroom burger, and my friend tried the beef burger, both are alright, nothing special though, the drinks are okay as well nothing memorable. the best part of the restaurant i'll say the decor and place where people can have a quick bite for burgers.
Fork
Decent blueberry pancakes (packed very full of berries), and my friend enjoyed their mangled eggs as well. Too bad the service was a little less than friendly. The hostess was bit rude when we asked how long the wait would be for a booth, instead of answering us she just asked whether we wanted to sit at a booth or counter, we had to repeat ourselves again. It was a busy day and she probably gets asked that question very often, but it still didn't warrant her tone. Our waitress was better, brought everything promptly, refilled our waters etc, but not super pleasant either. I would expect this in Richmond where the prices are lower and service is at least fast, but downtown Vancouver? Not so much.

Excellent service, great menu, large portions, the ambiance of a cozy diner, and reasonable prices. These are all the hallmarks of this great establishment. I literally cannot find a reason to give anything less than 5/5 to them!

I brought my teenage daughter here after a Women's World Cup match for a late dinner. It took a little while to get service, but the service was good when it arrived. Great burgers and a milkshake! Would recommend it to any weary traveler looking for some comfort food.

We had the big ass breakfast here. Good pricing, great service. Food came in a larger than expected portion. Bluberry banana pancakes were amazing. Was a great experience!

The poutine here is rather non traditional with house chipped fries, aged white cheddar and mushroom gravy. Since it’s shredded aged cheddar, it melts immediately with the hot gravy, making the poutine extra gooey.
Today I was totally in the mood for some greasy diner food hehe. The Templeton is a hot spot in Granville's entertainment district for brunch, milkshakes, and vegan burgers!! They serve up classic, no fuss diner fair - they also have amazing organic/vegan dishes (vegan poutine anyone?) ;D There's always a lineup, so you'll probably have to wait 30+ mins for a table haha - I overheard the waitress telling someone that they only have one cook in the kitchen, so the wait for food can be anywhere 20 - 30 mins!! When I was eating a older lady came in (she looked about 60) and she was like "I'm been eating here since I was a little girl!!" Woah haha - has the Templeton really been here for that long? :D For some reason I felt like ordering coffee today - and I rarely drink coffee LOL. One thing you guys may not know about me is that when I do drink coffee, I like ordering it black! I've never been a latte kind of girl haha. I don't know, for some reason I just don't like adding milk/cream/sugar to my coffee. I feel like it masks the actual flavour of the coffee. I was really hungry - so I ordered the Big Ass Breakfast (lol at the name!!) Yea, it wasn't as big as I was expecting. It was actually pretty tiny. I was still hungry after finishing it hehe. Even though it was really calorie dense I still felt really light after eating it!! Yay!! :D They have mini jukeboxes at each table - if you put a quarter inside you can listen to a song!! How cute is that? :D The Big Ass Breakfast $12 with real maple syrup + $1 Cinnamon Raisin French Toast, Turkey Sausage, 3 Over Easy eggs, Rosemary Potatoes Cinnamon Raisin French Toast: 1.5/5 stars Rosemary Potatoes: 2/5 stars Turkey Sausage: 2.5/5 stars This was okay - it didn't really live up to all the hype. The french toast was kind of dry

Today I was totally in the mood for some greasy diner food hehe. And to be specific: toast, sausages, and french toast!! I was doing some shopping along granville, so I went to the Templeton for a late brunch (they serve brunch until 3 pm!) .

Met my friend for a drink after work here, and it turned out to be a funky little place. Retro diner style, with cool decor and a long bar. Classic diner food but with amble veggie and vegan twists. I got a cup of the vegan chilli, and we split a pitcher, both pretty good. Friendly service and reasonable prices. I'd go back for a casual bite and drink. The place seems pretty out of place amongst the clubs and bars of Granville St.

Would definitely go back.. A friend recommended for me to try out The Templeton, and I was very pleased. Retro diner atmosphere with hearty food options. Our waitress was very pleasant and helpful, the poutine was great and the drinks were stiff! Good stuff.

I wanted to like it ... I really did ... but .... I am very confused how the Templeton received a 91 'like rate' is beyond me. The menu looked great - I ordered the lentil loaf and my brother ordered the vegetarian lasagne. It was odd that they presented the lasagne as if it was baked in the oven with burn marks on the dish, as we were able to observe all our food being microwaved instead which helped take away the true flavour from the meals. My side garlic mash potatoes were cold/luke warm - depending on the spot. I am guessing these are not their 2 signature dishes - and perhaps we should of ordered burgers, and maybe their breakfasts are much better?

The best!!. Idk why the reviews below mine are so horrible, but honestly im happy to hear some people dont like it... cause theres always a line out the door..so thats just less people i have to wait behind for a spot.

the templeton is a super small cute diner on the granville strip, its basic service and during breakfast really busy so yes sometimes they cant spend alot of time at your table, but when they arent as hectic the servers are reallyyy nice!!! i love that the templeton is vegan friendly. thank you!!

Didn't even order. Just left.. Walked in got yelled at by waitress "choose your seat and that's it NO moving!". We found it odd but for some reason still sat down. She didn't speak to us for the 10minutes rather she talked very loudly about other Templeton employees, huffing and puffing the entire time. This entire time we realized why the restaurant patrons also looked like chastised children because they had been brave enough to ask to be moved booths. It was like a constant and freezing wind blowing down at our booth. Uncomfortable and no customer service at all. We cannot speak to the food quality because we never made it that far.

So dissapointed. This was my second time at the Templeton. The first visit was a weekday breakfast. We arrived when the diner opened and the server seemed very perturbed with having to deal with customers. Since it is her job, this was confusing. Friendliness did not improve, but the food was good and I loved the menu so suggested it to a friend for breakfast this morning, thinking I would give it a second chance.
I checked in for a table for 2- there was going to be a wait, but that was ok. My friend was due to arrive at 11:15, and at 11:11 I was asked if my "friend was gonna be long?!" I laughed this off and was pointed toward the back corner.

My friend ordered the breakfast sunday which seemed fairly dull and I ordered banana blueberry pancakes and bacon. The bacon was ok, not crispy, but the pancakes were half raw. We were never asked how the meal was and after our second coffee refill (she put a splash into my cold coffee) were ignored completely, which is very obvious when you are the table beside where they pick the food up from. We had planned to sit and visit and as we're both in service, we understand that they might want to turn the table over, but we are also the type of tippers that would make up for the long stay. However, this was not the case today, because when we asked our server about the bill she said we just went to the til, but then after we'd sat for too long she came and asked us if we wanted her to bring the bill (as in "get out") So not great food, disappointing service and you have to walk through the kitchen to go to the toilet....I'm so sad, because I am a "diner" lover and there aren't many left, but it's just not worth it.

Terrible service, not coming back. It was our first time here on a rainy, saturday night. The restaurant wasn't busy and there were empty booths. When we entered, NO ONE GREETED US. The waitress had her back to us putting away cutlery or cleaning at the counter. My friend and I stood at the door awkwardly contemplating what to do. So we just seated ourselves thinking that was the norm but then we saw the 'please wait to be seated sign' underneath the cashier. Before we sat, we noticed the gross mess of fries and napkins on the floor. When we sat, she finally acknowledged us and pointed to the menus atop the juke box. I got the chilli and my friend got the mushroom burger. Her mushroom patty was extremely salty. She ate the mushroom in small bites with her mashed potatoes because the mashed potatoes were very bland and dry. My chilli on the other hand wasnt seasoned enough. I had to add more salt. When my friend was finished with her meal, the waitress asked her if she was done and proceeded to taking away her meal AND mine! I still had 1/3 left of chilli in the bowl but before I could say anything she took my napkin, threw it in the bowl and just took that too. I ate all the bread and salad so maybe my plate looked empty enough to be done? Not impressed that she didn't wait for a reply and just rushed us. Anyways, our total came to around $21 and my friend gave her $25 and told her to keep the change. I was really upset with my friend for tipping her so much for her lack of attentiveness and care. The only time she seemed genuinely interested in the customer was when she got my friend's tip because she finally had a smile on as she happily chirped a thank you.

Although the menu has a variety of vegetarian dishes I wanted to try, I will not be back. Service was bad enough that I do not want to risk it again or wait in line when it's actually BUSY to get this kind of service and most likely be rushed out because it's busy.

If you're going to go here, do take out and good luck with service.

Good food, bad service. I am vegetarian and looking for a vegetarian friendly restaurant while I was visiting Vancouver. We went to Templeton with our friends. The food was good with lots of vegan and vegetarian options. The environment was a bit dirty, especially the washroom was dirty and very small. Also when we were paying the bills the waitress behaved very unprofessional. Seemed that she was not satisfied with the tip and she was frowning and she didn't replied to me when I said "thank you" to her when I was leaving. I come from Calgary and used to this percentage of the tip and I think the amount I choose for the tip is completely my choice. I won't go back to this restaurant because of the unprofessional behavior of the staff although the food was great.
Jade
Terrible service. I ordered a Caesar salad over the phone for pick up. I locked up my store because I was at work and went to pick it up, when I got there it was packed, so I patiently waited while the waitress helped the people paying. I then had two people butt in front of me to pay for their meals they had already eaten, the waitress saw this and didn't say a thing and helped them first. I let it slide because again, they were busy, but once she helped THREE other groups of people pay for their food (ALL behind me) I gave up and left because I needed to go back to work. I wasnt even acknowledged. Won't be going back.

Retro Delight. My Dad was visiting the city and I wanted to find a retro 50's diner that would capture his nostalgia. The templeton was perfect. From classic bar seating to jukebox and wall paneling the joint really captured the mood. We popped a few quarters into the box and had a great time. The place is really small so we had to wait a while, but the food was tasty - quality Canadian diner fare with a few vegetarian twists like the mushroom burger.
The staff felt very down to earth and we had a good time.
I'd come back for sure.
AnythingIceCream
Fine French Toast. Dropped in to the diner counter for lunch. Went with the cinnamon raisin french toast - very yummy, but would have been even better if the bread was thicker. Saw some other plates go by and they all looked delicious!
Seemed to be a lot of regulars there that the staff knew and were very friendly to, not so much for us strangers.
Mountainveggie
Great experience. Stopped in after a show last night for a drink and a poutine. Our server was super friendly and awesome, and the food was fantastic. I loved how almost everything on the menu could be made vegetarian. I will definitely be back soon.
Tomas E.
In love. Service is super relaxed but efficient. I love the breakfast! I have taken all my family to eat here! Go here.
Dawn
Terrible service. Ignored by two servers who only cared about filling cutlery and ketchup. Bacon almost burnt. Potatoes yummy but have burnt. Never again. You want a good break? Elbow Room
Erik
Great burgers. I ate a great chicken burger here. There are a zillion restaurants downtown but few that serve a good burger with style. This is one of them. Other than the burger that I'm still drooling over the retro style is great. I love the juke boxes in the booths and the bar seating is straight out of an old movie.
Chris
Brunch done right. Came in for brunch and got the truckers breakfast. It came with three eggs, sausage (or bacon I got sausage), potatoes and toast. The portions weren't stingy and the potatoes were tasty with their seasoning, herb I think it was. The restaurant is done up all retro though it would have been awesome if the waitress looked like an old school pin up girl to match the decor. That's nit picking but it's my review so I'll write it my way.

Granville isn't the first street that pops into mind when deciding on brunch but it is now. I was here early and it was hot and can't imagine how roasting it would be in there later in the afternoon.
...
Awesome Diner. Mushroom Burger was pretty good, vegetarian melt is awesome. I've been here a couple times and the food and service seems to be pretty decent albeit a touch greasy. YUmmy breakfast.

Do NOT order the poutine it's not real cheese curds (and the menu gives no evidence of this) and lacklustre. Stick to the fries!
Jessica Tong
Won't Return for Seconds. Extremely slow service - we waited half an hour until the food arrived after ordering. Plus, the waitress never came to check on our meals or refill our beverages. The Eggs Benedicts were good, but the Scramble was terribly dry. Never again.
Gary Roberts
Small, crowded, noisy and absolutely fantastic!!! Not much to look at from the outside, but excellent food, wonderful staff and retro ambience. Don't miss this diamond in the rough.

Hadn't been here in a while and thought I'd try again. Didn't know I was about to have one of the best BLTs of my life, along with the tastiest soup ever, all served by a superstar waitress. Man the soup was good. Clearly homemade and delicious. I could taste the love in this meal, for real. I believe the soup changes daily but I had roasted red pepper with squash.
LL
Nice.. All at our table had a very good meal. Especially liked the soup I had. Decent prices too.

Great for dates. I've had so many dates at this place, heh. Well, the service is good, the food is pretty damn decent, and they serve new fries now I've noticed that are really tasty. And they have excellent tasting portabella mushroom burgers.

Fun place to hangout and drink cheap beer, and on the cheap pitcher days: Tuesday and Thursday. Gets packed a lot. My favourite place to sit is the Wonder Women table. And everyone in the kitchen is very friendly, and we need to cut through there to get to the washrooms, which are tiny, but they keep them clean.

I've had the chance to hangout outside in the back a few times when my friend used to chef there, it was pretty cool. And their music is always good, and the JukeBox is a plus. I play: DEVO - Satisfaction

Excellent "greasy spoon" restaurant. Food breakfast was delicious and service was great.
Suzanne Copsey
Definitely going back. Quick service, but would benefit from a bit more politeness and personality. Fantastic burgers, and amazing tasting poutine. The tap beer was also really nice and a good match with the beef based burgers. Cant wait to return to try dessert, as the main serving sizes are huge.

The food was really comforting and home cooked style, awesome!
Pretend Chef
Quick, Fun Diner. First: it was shocking [after being transported back about 60 years inside the Templeton] to emerge onto Granville Street, 2012! Everything about the restaurant is authentically retro and unchanged- from the focused menu of diner classics to the long counter with chrome & red vinyl stools. We tried burgers & the fish and chips, which weren't outstanding but still solid and very well priced, especially given the meat was organic, portions were large, everything was very fresh and made to order. The drink menu had some mixed-drink misses but our server was awesome and guided us to good decisions. Try one of the deep fried chocobars- yum.
Surfkali85
Little dissapointed. Not as amazing as i expected ... was told to go here by many..
got the truckers breakfast.. was a small meal, too much rosemary on the potatoes
i was hoping for larger portions as well...

Amazing experience! Excelle.... Amazing experience!
Excellent food at great prices. Danielle was fantastic; she makes super ceasars!
Christy D
Great food, speedy & friendly service. A nice small diner. Never a long wait for a table, but tables seem to always be full. Lots of great options and vegetarian and vegan friendly. Home cut fries too! Try the jukebox. Open late!
Jordan May
Excellent. This classic establishment is the best find. On a Monday night, there was one chef in the kitchen, and one waitress in front who efficiently served a packed restaurant. The food quality was spectacular, and for organic food, it was very well priced.
Bea
The 'snappy service' should be replaced with 'slow bitchy service'. One server
Full restaurant. Cold toast. And it was like it was our fault.
Sarah
Mmmm. Been to the Templeton a few times now. Love the food, atmosphere, and great service!
Joe
Super. What a super find by accident today. Have just read the reviews and I must say I am so glad we found this place. An excellent diner. Great atmosphere excellent and friendly service, the food was great. I had the BBB Burger with salad great dressing on the slad and the burger was great.
Overall I really liked this place for its food and it's authenticity.

Love the Templeton, maybe not the patrons. We usually go to the Templeton for dinner. The Templeton is a great spot with good food, cheerful, friendly service and good music. Today we went for Brunch and we were treated to the same great cheerful service and good food. What we couldn't believe was how rude many of the patrons were. We waited about 10 minutes to get a seat and were seated quickly because we opted to sit at the counter. I was shocked at how rude and pushy some guys were demanding that they were in line before us and how did we get seated? "Dude, if you're in a hurry, agree to sit at the counter." There were a couple of rude customers barking at the two lovely gals working today. We remarked on it to the servers and they were super cool about it - of course!

The Templeton is great spot. It's decor is a bit shabby but the food and service is really good. The only thing that would make it better is if the arrogant Vancouverites would stay away!
Martin
Food, staff. This little restaraunt on Granville St. has some of the best food in the city. My favorite is the farmer's breakfast and then the truckers breakfast. The lasagna is pretty good, although the burgers @ the Templeton is outstanding. I have not tried eveything on the menu, but all that I have tried, has been exellent. The food is real, and cooked with care by staff that seem to care about what they do. As fo the staff, the ladies are freindly and exceptional pleasant. They really help make the Templeton a great dinning experience.
All that go there will be pleased with the service, the food and the cleanliness of the establishment.

My favourite downtown brunch spot!. I have been going to the Templeton for almost 5 years and their service, fun atmosphere and good food (especially for the price!) make me so happy! Their servers (esp. Danielle) are super fun, quick, and remember your order, there are cartoons on the big screen, and their french fries/vegan mushroom gravy are my favourite!

Maybe I should have stuck with breakfast. Thought I would try the veggie dog with chili and cheese with a Side of poutine. Hmmm well not quite as yummy as I am used to - just a tad to much on the bland side. The cheese was not shredded but like a square of possessed kind. Coconut cream pie - rather firm custard with whip cream on the side. Needs serious help. I have been so spoilt by Dalhia's triple coconut cream - in Seattle.
The Transformer
Gruff service and pretty average food, but lots of decent vegetarian options.

Outstanding!. This place is retro. Small narrow place is a throwback to diners in the good old days. It was packed at 11am (too late for breakfast, too early for lunch). The service was quick and the food hot and fresh. This is a definite place to visit if you go to Vancouver.

This is one of those trendy, kinda' rundown retro places. Show up for a weekend brunch and you can expect a lineup. If, however, you make it known that you're a single, you may get seated right away, at the counter. Food is good. Staff were friendly, in spite of the crowd.

Great Little Diner - A True Icon. This is one of my favorite diners in Vancouver.

It is a small place. It can get pretty full.

I pretty much always get the 777 Burger or the BBB Burger. The 777 is a straightforward burger. It has quality beef, fresh condiments, and is served on a nice Kaiser. When I am looking for a bit more, I would go for the BBB. It adds BBQ sauce and bacon.

Their fries are pretty good. They are fresh cut.

They also carry Jones sodas and have pretty good shakes.

The service is usually friendly. I've been there a couple of times though when it was rushed and a little brusk.

Overall though, it is a great small throwback diner. It is an icon on Granville St.

Portobello Burger. They have a good portobello burger - it comes with a huge melted chunk of cheese (read: like the reuben at the Naam). I might consider ordering it without the cheese if they knocked a dollar off. Beware the $1 side of mayo.

Mac & Cheese. Don't get the mac & cheese. It tasted like just macaroni & oil. The only thing giving it any flavor was the tomato/onion salsa on top.

Horrible. Eggs were undercooked and runny. Server was rude and grumpy and the place was dirty. The ketsup bottle lid was rusted on the bottom. That's gross. Way overpriced also. Not going back.

Best Breakfast on Granville St.. We had breakfast last Sat and it was FABulous!!! It's always packed on weekend mornings, but we finally found a spot at the counter and it just added to the experience! I had the freshly squeezed lemonade and it was VERY ZINGY! Tasty! Eggs benedict was perfect! Nicest Hollandaise sauce EVER! And probably the best priced in the city! Servers were great! Very friendly staff!

Great diner without the traditional bland fried fatty food. I had the BBB burger with blue cheese and a salad. Great bun great flavour. Salad was fresh with a great raspberry and possibly yogurt dressing. My friend had the huevos rancheros breakfast. Also very good. And done right. Let's not forget the raven malt beer on tap. I went out and bought some at the liquor store shortly after.

Just right. This place gave us what we wanted from it. Good burgers, good drinks, friendly casual service. We really enjoyed it.

Old Style Diner gone Punk. The Templeton is a great place to go for a good meal when downtown. It's often challenging to find good food when you're in between work and a movie or concert. The lunch places are closed by that time, or don't seem satisfying at that hour. The upscale restaurants are an experience in themselves, not suited for a quick bite between activities. The Templeton slides right into that space for me. I can meet a friend there or sit at the counter if I'm on my own. The food is satisfying and reminiscent of old-style blue plate specials (often with a twist, like the lentil loaf or the portobello burger.) The decor has that vibe too, while the staff generally have an indie punk sensibility. A comfortable, delicious experience.

Milkshakes and Vegetarian Chili fries!. Great atmosphere and food. Love the milkshakes and chili fries. Can eat there with my veggie and vegan friends and family.... And all our guy friends who love burgers! Juke boxes are super cute, bring quarters!

Loved it- went back 4 days later! Tofu scramble was so flavorful. These folks seem to use good ingredients and are attentive to vegans! Quick service in true diner style.

Fab diner. Really cool place and great food. Fantastic Fish and Chips and one of the best poutine's this side of Montreal. I take it back, better than many in Montreal.

Small and quirky place, but great atmosphere and quality food. They really take care to do everything properly and the fries are amazing too, but I think I made that point already.

This is the kind of place that Vancouver should really savour and enjoy. I hope it stays in business another sixty years.

Small place tucked away amongst what was once skid row, and still is seedy. Good food. Small so expect to wait for a booth on weekends. Countertop service is a quick option.

... pancakes were just awful! dense and doughy, not a trace of either blueberry or banana flavor, really bad...

Solid breakfast! Waitress seems like she could bite your head off if you catch her on an off day but be nice and chipper on a good day.

The service was friendly and efficient; the premises were fairly clean; the prices were about average; the food was typical of diner fare, but it was less salty and much less greasy. Even though they had lower-than-usual salt and oil components, the food was nonetheless enjoyable and flavorful. But the flavours I tasted in some of the items were unexpected. The ingredients did not taste like what I expected them to taste like. For example, the flavours of the rosemary potatoes that came with my mangled eggs dish did not remind me of breakfast potatoes. The combination of rosemary and potatoes gave me flavours that conjured up mental images of…fish. Yes, fish! I thought that there must’ve been a glitch with my tastebuds after I tasted the first potato so I attempted to reboot my buds with some water. Didn’t work. The potatoes still tasted like fish. They tasted some kind of mild roasted fish wi

It was the day of Christmas Eve. I suppose that for many, the day of Christmas Eve itself is exciting, but for me, it’s usually a bore: my extended family all lives in Korea, so there’s not much in the way of new stimuli. We’d planned a Christmas Day dinner with our next-door neighbours, which I was looking forward to, but I was lacking plans for Christmas Eve. So I was glad when Pickles, Dolph, Sam and I decided to meet up for brunch and exchange some baked goods in honour of the season. And at Pickles’s suggestion, we decided on The Templeton, a kitschy diner on the corner of Granville and Helmcken. The Templeton is a small, busy, bustling, classic diner, complete with a jukebox and pictures of Elvis grinning up at you as you eat. There was one server on duty, who was impressively efficient, and the decor was eclectic, but in a comforting way. The menu itself echoed this, with breakfast options that had a dash of creativity but weren’t too abnormal. Dolph and Pickles both opted for t

Forget the deep fried Mars bar because the Wunderbar blows it out of the water! Man oh man this is good! It's got the peanuts, melted chocolate, gooey peanut butter and caramel but the kicker is the little bits of crunchy rice crisps that are still crunchy when deep fried. We would've had this a la mode if they had any vanilla ice cream left but alas, sold out. No matter, the whipped cream was a nice light contrast to the super rich Wunderbar. Yum yum! Devoured within seconds by our table...

An institution in Vancouver, The The Templeton has become my favourite brunch spot. Located on Granville Street, which I usually avoid like a cold or smelly people, I make the effort and grin and bear the obnoxious street to: 1. Pop into El El Kartel and Underworld to see what's happening in street style and 2. To have perfectly satisfying food in an unassuming 50's style diner. The menu offers classics prepared with care and quality ingredients, which rare for a greasy spoon. My favourite is the Farmer's breakfast. Perfectly herbaceous potatoes sautéed with mixed seasonal vegetables married together in a beautiful hash. It is topped with free run eggs prepared to your preference. I like my eggs poached medium not only because it's healthy but I love the moment when you cut into the little white parcels and the molten yolk oozes out and serves as the perfect sauce. Oh ya! And a beer… it's kind of like the cherry for this afternoon delight.

If you do go either don't order any other entree, or bring a friend, because for a measly $7, you do get a full meal worth of poutine.
Gastrofork Dee De Los Santos
Overall the food was good, service was friendly but of course it was the atmosphere that sealed the deal. I was too full to order dessert but next time I go I’ll remember to make room for a milkshake… and maybe wear a poodle skirt while I’m at it.

I've wanted to come try it out for the longest time and finally got the chance to for lunch. Inside Booth Counter It was different than what I had imagined. A very busy little diner, the booths were all full when we got there so we took the counter seats.

The poutine, which most of us ordered, comes with aged white cheddar, topped with vegan mushroom gravy.

The Templeton is a diner that is both tiny and popular. I would imagine that this might cause some problems on Saturday mornings.

Audrey and I have not spend quality time together for the entire fall semester last year. We finally met up 3 days before she left for her vacation to Asia. I was clueless as to where to go but since she wanted to dine at Yaletown, I think that Templeton would be a good idea as it was also convenient for me to take the Canada Line from the airport. The Templeton is not really very close to Yaletown station but in between Granville station and Yaletown station. The restaurant brings you right back to the old school days. It is an old diner with retro moments. There are very few servers to cater to the massive crowd. They should really work on getting more manpower for the restaurant.

The place was packed when we arrived – the small restaurant was packed with not a booth or a stool at the diner bar to spare! We made small talk with one of the servers and enjoyed the old school Bugs Bunny cartoons they projected onto the wall during our
