This deli is a very easily missed hidden gem behind a small Portuguese market. This is probably one of the best bang for your buck sandwich shops. And based on previous reviews, they have not raised their prices in many years.

There aren't many choices in terms of sandwiches, but why muddle up the menu when you can make a few dishes really well. The staff, who was probably the owner was nice, and explained what kind of food were available. Not being Portuguese, it was a little bit intimidating. However, he was kind enough to explain things.

This place is definitely the definition of what classic Winnipeg hole in the wall is. So check it out.

Love the Bifana sandwich here! A grocery store and more here at Ninho's.
The bifana has Tender Pork, onion and a nice hot sauce on a homemade bun. Sandwich is under $4.00 and is delicious! Can't go wrong for the price and what you get :)

The buns are so fresh too and homemade mmm yum!

Great bifana!. If there's one thing I love from this place it's their bifana. A meat sandwich with onions, a spicy marinade kind of sauce, and a soft bun. It's a great price too! I just wish it weren't so far from where I lived to make the trek to this place.

Cheap Take Out. And when I say cheap, I mean inexpensive !!

I ordered their famous Bifana, daily soup and 2 cod cakes to go. There is no dine in here.
The Bifana was excellent, (though the pork was a little dry), the flavours were exceptional with the cooked onions and hot sauce and marinated meat all melding well together.
The huge container of soup I received was also tasty though a little more salty than I would prefer. Still though I love collard greens and this soup had good flavour.
The cod cakes were also good, again a little more salty than I am used to but a steal at $1 each.

And the best part about it was that everything with tax cost me only $8.54. Best deal in town !
Service was very warm and helpful.

Amazing bifana! cheap eats with amazing flavours!. This is indeed a hidden gem as I almost missed this place when I was on the hunt for some Portuguese grocery items a while ago. It's on a quiet and maybe not so great section of Sherbrook St between William Ave and Logan. The signage isn't very noticeable as it's located in a warehouse type building.

This is a small no frills Portuguese grocery store that happens to sell some ready to eat food in the back. I've shopped here before but I am not sure why I never sampled their sandwiches until recently. All I can say is that "WOW!" The bifana (pork sandwich) is $3.35 - you get a ridiculously large sandwich. I mean other than convenience as I don't work or live anywhere near here, I would totally get my lunch from here every week. The homemade bun is absolutely delicious, a little crusty on the outside and soft and fluffy inside. The sandwich is is filled with a few large pieces of pork cutlets, tons of cooked onions and lots of hot sauce. The onions and hot sauce are optional but you should get it - it totally makes the sandwich. The hot sauce had a good kick to it and adds a ton of flavour. I am drooling as I write this... oh and a side note, don't eat this in the car like I tried to as it can get messy.

They also sell a cheese sandwich and a paio and cheese sandwich - both were around $3. They also serve up a daily soup and the most delicious roasted potatoes that seemed really inexpensive. I got about 5 pieces of roasted potatoes for $0.84. Very flavourful potatoes, it might be a bit salty for some but I really liked them.

Service was prompt. No place to sit down so it's all take out! All I can say it's - great flavours, huge portions and easy on the wallet! Less than $5 lunch and you are full! Love, love, love.

Open Tues-Fri 8:30am to 6:00 pm. Sat 7:30 am - 5:30 pm. Closed Sun & Mon.

Truly a Hidden Gem. Ninho de Portugal is by far the most "hidden" gem I have ever encountered. It is located in a worn out looking strip mall on Sherbrook close to Logan Ave. The sign is also worn out and hard to see, and when you walk inside you find a grocery store. At the back of the store however is where all the goodies are for take out only. On Thursday and Friday afternoons they make homemade rice pudding and coconut buns which are both amazing. This cinnamon coated rice pudding is different in the sense that it is sticky and flat and eaten cold, but so good!
My favorite however is the lunch. I am not sure what time it becomes available at or when they stop serving because I have only gone during the week around noon (it is closed Mondays and I would probably assume Sunday as well). For lunch you can chose from a few simple but mouthwatering options. The most popular is the pork bufana. Pieces of marinated pork are put inside a homemade roll. You can add on sauteed onions and hot sauce if desired. It is filling, tasty, spicy (if you get the hot sauce), and only costs $3. You can also get the meat sans bun which is what I normally get--just the meat in a container covered in onions and hot sauce. Another great side is the roasted potatoes. Flavorful, tender, huge chunks of potatoes that go oh so perfectly with the pork. I cannot give a price on the meat/potatoes because they are sold by weight, but I can say it seems very cheap. The vegetable soup is also a steal at under $2 for a fairly large container. The soup is different on occasion but is always veggie and usually contains small pasta, beans, cabbage, and tomatoes. They also serve up homemade ribs and cod cakes which I have yet to sample.
This is by far the tastiest supermarket food I have ever eaten. I have gotten food from here for a few years now and it has always been good. Prices may be super cheap but the quality and taste are rich.

I might have to revisit. Hot food counter looked good. Lots of dry goods. Picked up some custard tarts and i think they'd been frozen? Maybe there's a day of the week to go for fresh. Pastry is pretty disappointing when they're refrigerated/frozen.

The Bifana sandwich here is AMAZING! & only 4 bucks. If you are planning to get lunch here, come early, as there can be a line-up. Very friendly staff. If you go on fridays, they have delicious cod cakes.

Wow this place is incredible. I wasn't even sure if this place was open but I decided to take a chance. I ordered a bifana ($4) and some potatoes (it's priced according to weight but my 6-8 were less than $2). It's very good portions so you won't be hungry. The lady there is so nice and helpful. They accept credit cards and interac and cash. I wish I lived in Winnipeg so I could come back for more.

Trust me, if you want an inexpensive lunch that you will love, try this deli. The Biffana sandwich is heaven on a bun. Bought 3 sandwiches, fabulous roasted potatoes and a cauldron of soup and the bill came to less than $17. I wish I worked closer to there as I would eat there twice a week minimum.

Love that bifana, my office used to be close and I ate here often. Great hole in the wall type of joint... plus Sumol (a delightful Portuguese soda) passion fruit is my favourite flavor. Give it a go

Decent selection of Portuguese groceries. Reasonably priced. In-house bakery. I keep going back for the bifana (Portuguese pork on a bun) which is just about the best thing you can have for lunch.
