Stopped at Bernstein’s Deli for lunch with a coworker and they delivered. As in... great food and exactly what I hoped for and expected. Having been to some of the top deli’s in Manhattan and not having a serious pastrami in a long time, I was long overdue. The pastrami was delicious andantes shaved so fine it was just falling apart, while the seeded mustard and whole grain bread were “mighty fine”!! Based on what I have seen on their menu, I will be back and likely for latke’s at breakfast. Couldn’t resist picking up some of their homemade garlic pita chips on the way out. Fast service and good prices. Gotta check these guys out...
The food is delicious and definitely has that homemade-comfort food feel. There are not many tables, so make sure you are there early during rush eating times!
You know when you are in grade 7, and all the kids call you Fatty Fatty Fat Fat, and you act like you don’t care, but you do care, and you tell your friends that you have a girlfriend, but they know your lying, and also they aren’t your friends anyway?
We’ve all been there.
But also, remember in grade 7, when every once in a while someone would be nice to you, because of pity, but it didn’t even matter because it was still nice to have someone be nice, and that makes you feel warm inside?
Bernstein’s gives me that same feeling.
The chopped liver is super awesome. I make sandwiches with the chopped liver and with bread at work, at lunchtime. Everyone is jealous of me because of my lunch at work, and that makes me feel good because nobody is every usually jealous of me at work, or at home.
We have been wanting to try Bernstein's for some time and finally ventured across the city one Saturday afternoon. Tried the matzo ball soup (half order gets 1 ball, full order gets 2 and is a very large portion). Not bad even though it is only broth, chicken and carrots in the soup. I enjoyed the potato latkes with sour cream and my guest savoured every bite of his house-made, warm corned beef on hand cut rye bread. Only complaint is the staff. It was not busy on this visit yet took more than 10 minutes to get a bowl of soup. Then the young staff sat around at one of the empty tables and proceeded to engage in a discussion about meat slaughtering, blood letting, kosher practices and why one should be a vegetarian. Not exactly appropriate nor appetizing in the presence of customers.
First time at Bernstein's even though a live 2 minutes away. Will be going back more often though. The deli it self has a lot of great options. Went to try their burger for Le Burger Week and it was very good. The chicken was cooked perfect and the slaw and pickles balanced out the breading spices.
I love the breakfast food at Bernstein's. But mostly I love the pancakes. They used to have banana pancakes that were heavenly, now it's carrot cake w/ walnuts and cream cheese. Amazing. The french toast is really good too. If you don't want breakfast, try a hot sandwich like the deluxe reuben or corned beef. I have never had bad service, but I usually try to come before it gets really busy (like around 11am).
Great omelettes, hashbrowns, and homemade jam with consistently the worst service. Very nice being able to have a place to park which seems to be hard to come by in Winnipeg. Will continue going back for excellent breakfast.
My favourite authentic Jewish Deli in Winnipeg. If you're lucky enough to get a seat try the latke stacker. Has always been a local favourite of mine, but in the last few years they have expanded to feature a new menu with some very unique takes on some old world Jewish food.

Very good thick sliced hot corned beef sandwich. There are 3 different sizes, I ordered the "full" and it was filling enough. Order it with the Dijon mustard.
