I've been liking this restaurant since 2015. I strongly recommend to this place!!! Truly delicious sushi made here!!! I would say one of the best sushi places in Victoria!
Was in for a delicious lunch with friends. I had the Tonkatsu. So tasty. My guests had Tanuki and a selection of Uramaki. All were authentically prepared and a feast for the eyes as well as the tummy. Great service, fair prices and the quaint atmosphere of a family restaurant. I will be back !
A little gem of a place if you want to have quality but inexpensive, and tasty food. Bentos and Donburi dishes are really good. Friendly staff as well. Would love to go back.
Great little 'grab and go' market with attached cafe. Solid Japanese food. Sushi, bentos and donburi - they all hit the spot. Super value - inexpensive, quality food for when you're shopping with both your stomach and wallet. Clean and friendly.
I eat here almost every time I visit. For the price, it can't be beat, and they are super friendly, so I love the atmosphere. I can't speak to the groceries, but it has a substantial amount of stuff. Not a full market, but easy to grab when you need after your meal. All in all, very convenient.
Delicious !. It's Japanese grocery shop with cafe on one side. From handmade sushis, sashimis, bentos to donburis (rice bowl). The donburi are delicious and extremely filling that would last you for few hours before you want to eat another meal. Beef donburi is my choice at about $7 per bowl. The Bentos are about $8 per set. Great atmosphere to dine in, very clean and comfortable but the service was minimal.
Checked out Sakura Japanese Cuisine Sushi Bar & Grocery to grab some sushi grade salmon and other Japanese items.
Decent selection of tea, sauces, rice, noodles, snacks, etc. Didn’t try any of their food items but the “to go” selection had bentos, katsu, tempura, kara’age and sushi rolls.
Bought ~1/2 pound of frozen sushi grade salmon ($29.85/lb), a bag of sushi rice and a spicy tuna musubi ($4.00).
Reminds me of a mini version of Fujiya Foods.
Great little place that offers fresh made sushi, rice bowls and bento boxes.
I've had their ramen, it was flavourful with excellent noodles. Their new new curry bowl items are really tasty and generously portioned. The Karaage Don is also an excellent lunch option.
They're definitely under new management - lots of new faces and a much improved customer service experience. They also have a new expanded menu with more variations of each type of dish. Sakura has solidified it's place in my lunchtime rounds.
I never been here before but I ordered a sushi tray delivered to me today. It was great that I was able to build my own tray and only pick what I want. The waiting time was reasonable and food were packed nicely. Sushi are good, a bit too much vinegar in the rice I think. I would come to the store one day for groceries.
Very good place to have sushi. Service is very attentive and they are happy to accommodate your wishes. It's a simple place but very clean and the quality of sushi and complexity are rather high. Prices are moderate. The place contains the restaurant and a small store.
Got ready to go sushi here many times. Always good. 5stars also because your replies to 1star reviews are hilarious.
Really nice and friendly staff and great food. I love this place
They have fresh affordable sushi to go and it’s delicious! Service is so nice and makes you feel welcomed. 10/10 will be returning soon :)
Great little shop & restaurant for all your Japanese cuisine needs!
The grocery section has many ingredients and snacks/desserts that are hard to find in other grocery stores. The restaurant prepares great food fairly quickly and there's even a section of fresh sushi with so many options to choose from. Staff are so friendly, kind, and helpful!
I moved to Victoria last year for school and everything was completely new to me. I had spent the previous four years in Vancouver, a city where I was familiar and comfortable. At first, Victoria felt like a "desert" to me. I was lonely and sad, and I constantly went back to Vancouver every weekend. Every time I had to come back to Victoria, I was blue.
But one day, I discovered a cute Japanese restaurant and grocery called Sakura near my place. I decided to check it out, and I had the best Katsu I've ever tasted in Victoria. From then on, I ordered Katsu from Sakura almost every week. It was so delicious that I became genuinely addicted to it. Whenever I had to come back to Victoria, I felt happier than before because I knew that I would have Sakura's Katsu to look forward to.
Sakura was more than just a restaurant, it helped me adjust to life in Victoria. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, the decor was beautifully decorated with traditional Japanese paintings. The staff was always patient and helpful and the owner was super nice too. The Katsu was made with the freshest ingredients and everything just taste amazing.
I just graduated last month and this will be the last month I spent in Victoria. I just want to say that Sakura is an amazing place that brings people joy. Everyone should try their food. It's a perfect place to have a casual dinner with friends, family or even a date. I hope for the best for Sakura, and I will definitely miss it when I leave Victoria.
T’was a most stunning Saturday afternoon. I mix a few litres of fuel in my 2006 Yamaha Zuma and point it south down Quadra in search of the elusive Sakura. Upon entering this fine establishment I was greeted by the friendliest of cashiers, who promptly handed me a menu and gave me time to carefully consider my order. Among several worthy candidates I settled on the Katsu Kare, and was treated to a generous portion of authentic and flavour packed curry. The three distinct components of this dish were all individually cooked to perfection and combined to create a symphony of flavours that inspired visions of Mt. Fuji on a crisp May afternoon. I left with a full stomach and a full heart, as well as a reusable bag of affordable groceries from the land of the rising sun. Wishing eternal success and prosperity for Sakura for generations to come.
