Sockeye Sushi

I had a wonderful dinner here with my sweetheart. The decor of this place is absolutely peaceful, and the server was prompt and attentive to our table! We ordered an array of food that was clearly prepared with care. This is easily the best Dynamite Sushi roll I have ever had, the serving was plentiful with crab! The noodle soup was also amazing and I would be happy to just have the broth, the broth of this soup with just so flavorful even on its own! I would definitely come and eat here again. We have been here several times and have always been happy with the quality of the food. The sushi is tasty and fresh. This evening though, we ordered a nigiri combo with 8 pieces - 4 of them were salmon, 3 tuna, and one shrimp. Not what I expected, I wanted a variety. I told the waitress, and expected something to be done about it, but there was no response either in what was served or in the bill. I would give them 5 stars except for this, and 3 or fewer stars if the food was not so good.

Family-run, this place has always been consistent over the 6 years I’ve eaten there. Offering a wide selection of rolls that range from the popular varieties in most sushi places to rolls that are for the more adventurous, the menu has a wide variety of items that could appeal to most customers. They also offer a small variety of Korean dishes (the owners being Korean), I definitely recommend their spicy ramyun. This place is also my go-to for delivery Japanese, with their items arriving at the correct temperature (which is very important for sushi delivery). My only complaints with the restaurant would revolve accuracy to their menu from what you actually receive sometimes and their delivery packaging. I once ordered their spicy seafood salad (offering snapper sashimi, squid and octopus on a bed of greens with spicy pepper sauce), but to my disappointment there was only snapper in the salad. When I ordered their spicy black cod hotpot, the packaging I received when ordering delivery to try this had leaked in the bag, and it was a nightmare to serve. It might go to show that the hotpot should only be eaten in the restaurant, so that might’ve been a bad choice on my part, but if a restaurant offers something on their menu for delivery, you’d think that they would consider the best option to safely deliver their food without incident. In any case, those issues aside, this restaurant offers tasty foods as well as really good value lunch combos, and should definitely be tried if you’re right downtown and looking for sushi.

I got the salmon teriyaki (so good!), and my husband got the avocado roll. The avocado roll was fresh, and somehow so completely different and way better from any other I've had in the city. My favourite place to get sushi so far!
