One of the best breakfast’s I’ve had in Victoria! Staff were great and the price was right!
Awesome Price and great food! Would definitely recommend.
Best bread ever, fresh, well prepared food and attentive service
My husband and I were recently in Victoria and wanted a place to eat without a long wait. This place hit the spot for breakfast...Fast service. Friendly waitress. Overall we were content.
Went with 3 other ladies, and the breakfasts were delicious all around!! Plentiful, and the bread....ohhhh the bread! No line-up around the block like some other breakfast places either, and just as wonderful. Friendly waitress too. :) Will definitely be dining here again!
Best breakfast in town. I've been coming here for years and it's been great since day one. I First stumbled here because the Blue Fox up the street had its usual 85-minute lineup going and I was hungry. I haven't looked back and try to eat here a couple times a month at least. Even on a Saturday or Sunday morning it's rare you have to wait for a table (HUGE plus for me), no matter if you're 2, 3 or 4 people. I'll admit, the coffee USED to be pretty bad, but a couple years ago they mentioned it was switching, and it tastes fine now. The cups are really small, but you can get a trillion refills if you like so it's still a good deal. The homemade Oaten Toast is un-frickin-believable as the base for the Lox Trim Benny or with their house made gingery jam (which is amazing). Also, for $9.95, the Avalon Skillet is so much more food than one can get for that price anywhere in Victoria (and it's delicious! 3 kinds of meat, potatoes, eggs, veggies and toast? YUM). There's only one waitress working (that i've seen anyways) but the place only has like 8 tables, so she's ALWAYS refilling water, coffee, tea. Also the owner seems to be friendly and likes walking around and asking customers if they are happy (and they usually are). Hands down my number 1 breakfast spot in this city, and I've tried them all. A lot.
Unlike other popular breakfast places that use carb fillers (mounds of fried potato and thick toast) to create large portions, Avalon resorts to no such culinary trickery. They simply give you a great, balanced, home cooked meal using the best ingredients. As such, you don't leave Avalon with food coma carb bloat; you leave satisfied and energized. And unlike overrated eateries like Blue Fox, there's no waiting in lineups at Avalon. We chose to enjoy our Breakfast Skillet today outside at one if the sidewalk tables. Service was friendly and efficient. Good prices, too. If you are one of these fools who stands outside Blue Fox for upwards of an hour for the privilege of eating a carb-enriched breakfast, here's a tip: walk a block further up Fort and try Avalon. No lineups, better food and a much more relaxed environment.
Fantastic Omelet!. Have been eating at the Avalon for a few years now. Normally I am a half Benny kind of gal but today I felt like a change. Ordered a ham, mushroom, and cheddar omelet from the regular menu. It was perfectly folded with a great filling to omelet balance and deliciously cooked mushrooms. The homemade hot sauce is always yummy, too. Too much food for me so I get to enjoy it again for dinner!
Simple, great breakfast!. Poached the eggs perfectly. wonderful service, no line ups
Coffee could be better....
Love it!!. WONDERFUL huevos rancheros! Been here 3 or 4 times and the food and service is always great.
Great little place when the Blue Fox is full. Tasty little place down the road from the Blue Fox. The Fox was full so we gave it a try. It was pretty good, nice home made bread, I am sure my mum used to make the same Irish Soda bread. It is quite cute, the young girl that waited on us was really nice, would def recommend it.
They have the best service in town. No contest!
even though the lineup was out the door, service was fast and efficient. they took down our name and number so we could peruse the local shops while we wait 15 for our table.
Service was gracious and kind. we were greeted with warm smiles from the server who amazingly managed all the tables herself and the chef. This looks to be a tight not, family operation.
what was so special about our breakfast were that several elements were homemade. the jam, the bread and hot sauce! Prices were below the local average while portions were bigger! and no compromise to quality!
Thank you Avalon, we will return
Randomly tried this spot on the weekend and the food was fantastic. All five in our group thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The pancakes were fluffy the fruit was fresh and service friendly. It took a little while for our food to come out but it was worth the wait. I would definitely recommend coming here for brunch and will be back! The prices are also very reasonable.
My favourite breast place in town and so underrated compared to some of the other big breakfast places in town. I’ve ordered countless times and never once had an issue or been disappointed with the quality, quantity it taste, and presentation is always nice. Highly recommend!!!

Came in for New Year's day breakfast. Made reservation for 10:00 place had space but filled quickly. Eating area is not huge, but just the right size to keep things intimate. Food was excellent and everyone in our group of 5 was happy with selection and size.
My new favourite breakfast place. It’s a small greasy-spoon style diner, run by a family. The portions are large, the staff are amazingly friendly and the coffee is refillable. It was very busy the day we went and the staff/family was obviously struggling to keep up, but you could tell they were trying their best and everyone waited patiently. All around this place is amazing and I will go back many times.
My family and I came here when the Blue Fox had too big a line-up for our patience. And we were glad we did.
The potatoes were outstanding. All the meals were 4 or 5 star worthy, the service a definite 5,
Overall, I was between a 4 and a 5 star rating. I let the fact that it is rated 4.2 at the time of my writing guide my decision. I decided it should go up from there and not down, so I went with a 5. Had it had a 4.7, I'd likely have gone with a 4. :)
Either way, we'll be back.
Such a great little spot for breakfast! The service was super friendly, the food was delicious and all for a great price too. I had the traditional breakfast that comes with the works and even homemade bread. YUM. Definitely recommend!!
In Victoria for a quick vacation, and happened upon this little restaurant.
So IMPRESSED! Courteous service and astounding food. Wild Salmon & Avocado Benedict on the homemade bread was delicious!
This place….is simply….the best… my partner and I wanted a cozy brunch on a rainy day and this was the place to be. The service? Amazing. The atmosphere? Cozy. The food? Unreal. We got the hue is rancheros and the avocado and salmon Benedict with some fruit….and let me tell you. The grapes in my side dish were the best I’ve ever had. The portions were massive and the price is right I’ll tell you that much for free. We are definitely coming back. This place is a treasure🫶🏻✨🧙♀️
I love this place. One of the only “cheap” diners left in town. If that’s what I’m in the mood for, the food here always hits the spot. And they have nice-to-haves that much more expensive places don’t — real maple syrup standard with the pancakes & homemade strawberry compote/jam standard with all toast. Big fan.
