We noticed Soho Tea Room when strolling down the Cambie St /16th ave neighbourhood in Vancouver. We decided to drop in a couple of days later to check it out seeing that their menu prices looked very reasonable. Soho mainly serves Hong Kong style food which is getting more hard to find these days. Inside of Soho looked quite modern with many tables.
Decent food. I like the salt and pepper chicken that people talk a lot about. The soup noodles I got as part of the meal were bland. To be air the menu did not deceive them as having including anything that would give them a strong flavour. I have been here a few times and the other dishes I have had have been satisfying. I really enjoy their coconut taro bubble tea.
Meal: Pan fried fish filet baked in cream and corn sauce on a bed of spaghetti and club sandwich with fries. Both with hot milk tea/coffee. Service: Better than Congee Noodle House, refilled water several times. . Atmosphere: Busy, can be loud. . Bottom line: We've walked by here before but never had the appetite to actually have a meal. For debit, they require a $10 minimum which is fine if you order a meal or two drinks.
I've been here many times (at least 20 times)and they serve up good HK style Chinese food in this immediate area. Parking is limited to one or two stalls at the back but free street parking is available about 1 block east of Cambie street.
The place is usually not overwhelmingly busy and you'll usually find a seat quickly. The restaurant is trying to mimic a hip/trendy style of HK style food with chalk drawings and menu on blackboards and menu that carry many dessert items. They also do a lot of beverages, from bubble tea to regular HK style beverages. Ex. Milk tea. Food ranging from set meals to many of the noodle soups are available and they are quite good. I have yet to discover something about the food that is not to my liking. Also prices are descent and a dinner will set you back 15 or so which is quite reasonable. As I've visited this place multiple times, this is one of those comfort food places I like going back.
I love late night places because I'm more of a night owl than an early bird, so it only made sense to try out soho tea room one night. Well, in reality I actually only cared for the tofu dessert because it was too cute! It tasted pretty average but in addition to that my boyfriend and I ordered the lamb hotpot, the deep-fried bun with condensed milk ad the DIY noodle soup. All the food was decent, pretty standard asian/taiwanese/hong kong bbt kinda joint in my opinion.
In the photo: fried chicken & french toast with ice cream - Asian take on chicken & waffles. Soho Tea Room is my default place to go when I don’t want to spend a lot of money and when I’m going with other people, with everyone at various levels of hungriness. I think I go here almost monthly! Those who are more hungry can get a full meal, such as baked rice/pasta, noodles, fried rice, grilled meats, sandwiches, just to name a few, while those who are less hungry can go for a snack, and those who aren’t hungry at all can simply get a drink. I find that the meals can be hit or miss - the fried rice dishes are good, but some of the noodle soups fall flat. The grilled meat combos are filling and tasty, but the hot pot sets are so-so. I do find their snack and dessert menu selection to be better than their mains. I especially like the steamed tofu dessert.
Knowing that toast boxes take forever to be made, we called in advance to have it done. We came a little later than we were hoping too, so they called us just to check how much longer we would take, so their toast box would stay fresh for us. We ordered the smores one which tasted really great! Except the cantaloupe on top confused me a bit, I would expect strawberries on top of something chocolatey. It still tasted fine. The bubble tea here comes in a large variety. They're great quality too! Some drinks take 30 minutes to compose... so we stayed away from those. Other than the food, the service here seemed like it was really rushed. But there was like no one there at 3:30... so. Calm down a bit. They never asked us if we wanted to order anything else when we got there.
The toast boxes are pricier than other ones that I've had before, but they don't disappoint. I had the black forest toast box, which wasn't overly sweet. They also have pretty big servings; I ordered the vegetarian ham satay, and I had to finish the leftovers over two days (I think the dishes are meant to be shared, that might explain why there's so much, haha).
Rating is based soley on this dish "baked halibut on cream sauce rice with puff pastry." The puff pastry always come out so perfect and taste really yummy with the cream sauce. The halibut is always cooked just right, except one time I got it and it was dry. I would suggest getting less onions cause it does with a lot and could be raw-ish sometimes. It's the only dish I get whenever I come here!
An HK style cafe with decent food and decent prices. Service is typical for the establishment. Great for a quick bite or if you need a place for a late night snack!
Love love love this place- they are open late, have a great selection of tasty snacks, drinks and meals, and have timely consistent service. They are always packed with people and never disappoint. One of my go-to places for late night dining and seeing friends.
Taiwanese and Hong Kong-style cuisine, this place has the aesthetics of a bubble-tea joint: clean and run by young people that you question whether or not you should trust them with your food. That being said, my partner and I have ordered several Taiwanese meal sets - the three-cup chicken, refried pork, and tofu chicken hot pot. The meals all came with nice little side dishes, pickled radish, seaweed and what not. The three-cup chicken was quite satisfying, nicely flavored with basil and fried within the pot. The refried pork was decent, but not great (and I can't remember if it came with bean curd). The tofu chicken hot pot was very nice, came with an abundance of ingredients and was immersed in a flavorful soup. The only con was that the dinnerware smelled of chlorine. We didn't order any of the desert or Hong Kong-style cuisine, so we cannot comment on those, especially the ridiculous toast box that people seem to pathologically obsess about.
Big portions and they have space! No line up yay! I like their toast box 💜 they have bubble tea and I like the milk tea one. I like their noodles I forgot which one though. I think this is a great place for dinner or lunch. I always come with my friend
Honestly love this place! I love the overall atmosphere and their food is really good. They have a variety of selections ranging from noodles, rice, snacks, beverages to desserts that range from $5-10. Super good food for super cheap prices! Woo!
Good food for a good price.. Soho has very good food. I also think the prices are better than other restaurants. Not too small and customer service is also very good.
Casual Taiwanese restaurant serving home-style food. I was here for dinner with my family and we had a great time, the food is filling and inexpensive while still being delicious. Service is polite and the decor is simple and cute...
More protein/meat is needed. M17 Chicken Steak with Black Pepper Sauce on Rice $7 3.5/5 - biggest portion of the 3. Came with 2 pieces of chicken things and crispy skins. The black pepper sauce could be stronger and spicier. 2 pieces of yellow broccoli and 2 pieces of carrots. The rice was not as hard as the one in the eggplant dish.
M24 Spicy Minced Pork with Eggplant on Rice (Spicy) $7 3.75/5 - I would not call this spicy at all. The sauce was tasty and flavourful. Did not come with a lot of pork and eggplant, mostly the sauce. The rice was also a little harder. I want to say it was yesterday's rice.
M26 Sliced Beef with Swirl Egg on Rice $7 3.5/5 - very smooth and silky egg but it came with 10 pieces of beef at most.
Mango Slush +$2 3/5 - very sweet. It wasn't as big as the ones I've seen online.
Mini Wooden Bucket Silky Tofu Pudding $5 4/5 - I could taste the soya beans. Pretty silky but not as good as the ones I had from Old Buddies. This one came with brown sugar instead of ginger syrup in Old Buddies.
Service is not as bad as some people said online. I wouldn't expect any good service in a HK style cafe. Cafe Gloucester and Copa cafe is not any better nor worse. The only problem with this place is that the food did not come with a lot of meat. On the good side is that I could tell the drink was less sweetened when I asked for it. There were 2 large groups of seniors were there. They seemed to know everybody and maybe it is the place they hangout for cheaper afternoon tea.
So many drinks to choose from!!! Fresh fruit milk slushies are good
Fancy bubbles. I've been looking for an excuse to try the Soho Tea Room since it opened, because it looks like it blends up bubble teas and slushes that are a cut above the norm. My tastebuds were particularly piqued by photos on Urbanspoon showing Soho's concoctions with multiple layers of coloured frozen stuff. I ordered one of what they call "Special Creations" -- the "Ice Age Meltdown." It has pale-orange slush made of peach ice riding atop a translucent tranche of lychee juice. The visual impact wasn't as cool as Soho's "Traffic Light," but it tasted sweet. I'll have to study the menu better before the next time I order. I give props to Soho for putting a lot more thought into their range of drinks than 90% of the BBT places I've checked out.
It's a sleek, modern-looking place inside, with chill music coming over the sound system. Not so loud that you can't have a conversation, though. In addition to the abundance of hot/cold drinks, the menu of Asian foods is more extensive than I would have expected from a smallish place like this. I guess that's the Hong Kong restaurant vibe -- you can order any of a hundred choices. How do they keep all the ingredients around, and how do the cooks in HK restos know how to make all those things?
Love this place!. First time I went there last night and as soon as I opened the menu and saw all the different varieties of food, I was super excited and my mouth was watering! I can't believe they had salmon/halibut Wellington!! I love how they offer a mixture of Chinese/western and Taiwanese food with bubble tea and lots of dessert choices!! The food was great and service was good. Definitely is one of my new favourite spots after badminton.
Wonderful first experience. My boyfriend and I ate here for late lunch (around 4:30), so there were only a few tables. We were seated fairly quickly. We were so impressed with the aesthetics, from the outside and inside architecture to the menu! There was even a TV, so we were able to watch the Canucks game.
I ordered the crispy salt and pepper chicken with rice while my boyfriend ordered the mixed grill made up of the sirloin steak and cordon bleu. We ordered one honey toast box each. We loved the food! The soup and bread came first (came with the mixed grill). The bread was so fresh and the soup was hot. We also loved our meals as they were both tasty. We loved how hot, fast, and fresh our food was. The toast box was unlike any other. You can't get them anywhere but here!! It's delicious!
The service was great throughout our time here; nothing unpleasant about it. I was very happy overall. I will keep going back to this new restaurant.
Chic decor and fantastic makeover from the previous tenant! Wood paneling on walls, wood floors...chocolate brown tables were nice...clean modern lines. Potstickers were juicy and kids loved them. No msg fish soup was healthy and fresh tasting. Lots of desserts and the hot milk tea I had with pearls was yummy. Nice strong tea flavour.
Good fish soup noodle. Free wifi. Just no free hot drink other than tea.

Tasty Chinese Bubble, Buns and Potstickers.. A nice selection of bubble teas (try the Taro root) and some of the tastiest potstickers (particularly the tart, cherry dipping sauce). The sweet deep friend bun you dip into sweet milk is a traditional Chinese dish favourite. A must try.
Every dinner attempt made has been thwarted by lengthly waits. I guess being one of the only bubble tea places that serves alcohol with their fruit and tapioca makes them quite popular. So today when I found myself on south Cambie, looking for a snack in between lunch and dinner, it was an opportune time to visit. The decor was particularly chic for a bubble tea place. New enough to warrant me asking if they had recently under gone renovations. This was not the case, they have only been open for a year and a half. Though everything remained in tact. Counters still held their shiny waxed surfaces, the paint on the walls still looked fresh, and the furniture remained with pointed corners and smooth edges. As a whole the restaurant was an assortment mix of elements. A light wood planked wall on one end, beige wallpaper pattern in white on the other, an artificial stone wall towards the back, and two blackboards that held menu specials in coloured chalk. The counters were surfaced with gra
Inside there are chunks of toasted bread flavoured with honey and it was warm, soft and sweet. It was very delicious and also tasted good with the cold vanilla ice cream as well. I was surprised that the sides of the box tasted good too due to the honey flavour and it was not that hard despite being toasted.
Soho also has a wide variety of cafe style foods you can order, and although their food is okay, I mainly recommend their drinks which are super. I’ll add my post about their food soon!
We split an appetizer of crispy salt and pepper chicken ($6). The chicken came out very hot and freshly fried. The chicken was in perfect bite size pieces and the meat was very moist. The batter was light and crisp and very flavourful from the salt, pepper, and herbs that are in it. There was also a chili type sauce served with the chicken that was perfect for dipping. I would highly recommend trying this popular Taiwanese dish if you come here (You can get entrée size versions with rice or noodles too). For my meal I ordered th
Misu told me about this new bubble tea place that opened up on Cambie Street so we decided to come here after work a few nights ago. Upon first glance, I quickly realized that Soho is a sister restaurant of Flo Tea Room. Even the font of the logo is the same! We shared the Salt and Chili Chicken Knee ($6.00) and it was pretty good. The chili gave the chicken knee a good kick without making us breathe fire. I think the dish would have been perfect if they fried it a little bit longer to get a better crisp on the batter. Soho Tea Room has been advertising their 6 pcs Pork Potstickers ($5.00) and they have also been quite well received by diners according to their reviews. Even when ordering these, I was a little skeptical since I expected them to be store bought and pan fried from frozen. I was pleasantly surprised by the juiciness of the potstickers and the crispy skin.

I had the pleasure of sitting down and catching up with Amy ( Food Queen – read her review here ) at the newly opened Soho Tea Room. The restaurant is located on Cambie and 19th, between Park Theatre and the Starbucks – though you can’t miss it with it’s inviting exterior. I believe it’s the ‘replacement’ for Flo Tea Room on Granville which closed a couple months ago. To start off, we ordered some bubble tea. I ordered a mixed drink – I’m not quite sure what the name was (either Tinkerbell or Tropica) – anyway it predominantly had mango and coconut. It was very delicious, creamy and very filling. There was still a great bit left when I was on my way home (in the snow…yes, cold drinks on a cold day!). Amy ordered the Traffic Light – I always love the colours of this particular drink. To start, we ordered the Salty, Peppery chicken. It was very juicy, tender on the inside and crispy and super flavourful on the outside. I don’t think we even needed the sauce as this was so good on it’s o
