I've been meaning to eat at Commercial Sushi since I moved into the neighbourhood and, today, I finally did it. I had their sushi special (three rolls + miso soup) for eight dollars and change. Delicious! I'll definitely go there again.
Boy I don't know why this place gets bad reviews. Sure the service can seem impersonal to some people, but this restaurant is so busy that table turnover is usually quite frequent so I really respect how the servers are focused on efficiency rather than wasting time having conversations with customers. With that said, the servers always answered my questions and always complied with allergy requests as best as they can. When I order something, I see and hear a sign of acknowledgement from my server. This is all the service I need because I'm not the type of person to go into a restaurant to chat with the staff. Trust me I've experienced practically no service at a highly rated Vietnamese restaurant (Le Petit Saigon) due to possible discrimination. This place respects everybody and treats everybody equally. Even when I go in when I'm not sober, they treat me with as much respect as when I am sober. I'm a big believer in equality. They don't care what age, skin color, or what you wear, they will serve you efficiently and compliantly without any discrimination. Thank you for treating students as well as you treat suits.
Even though this place is usually busy during lunch and dinner, they never screwed up my food, they never overcharged me, and they never rushed our table to finish even though they were closing soon. This is a real solid place for sushi for lunch or dinner. The chefs are fast. Their portions for everything are bigger than average. I've never had anything bad here after 10+ visits so far in my life. My fave rolls from their combo list are the chopped scallop roll, spicy shrimp roll, and the yam avocado roll.
Although there are authentic Japanese restaurants scattered throughout the city, they’re fairly outnumbered by unauthentic ones. But you know what? There have been numerous times now where I’ve found that these unauthentic ones are at par, or are even superior to the real deal! In any case, the subject of today’s visit is Commercial Sushi, a bustling little restaurant right across from Broadway Station.
Similar to samurai sushi. It is more about cheaper price, decent portions but the food is not high quality. Great place to quickly grab and go at a busy location. Decent food that will keep you full at lower cost. Excellent if you want to get something for lunch or dinner on your way to work or school.
I would highly recommend this place for anyone who loves sushi, especially on a budget. They have THE best yam rolls I've ever had, and thanks to their incredible specials, I was able to order those, a BC roll (A+) and a spicy shrimp roll (A+) for only $7. I'm the kind of guy who eats a lot and I was full after that meal. The service was kinda cold (why it's not 5 stars) but the food more than made up for it. I will be returning when I'm in the neighborhood.
Commercial Sushi was one of the rare restaurants where I didn’t look it up on Zomato before trying it. I’ve been there many times since and it’s become one of my favourite joints to grab cheap, delicious sushi when I’m craving it. I love the location, it’s right by Commercial-Broadway station. The value is really great too, they have some 3 for $6ish deals with a bunch of sushi rolls and the 3 for $9 menu as well (I recommend the Chicken Teriyaki Don – usually I order 2 other things and pack the Chicken Teriyaki Don for lunch the next day, it’s super filling and I’m a big eater.
Cheap. Prepare for atrocious service and atmosphere. The specials are a good feed for very low pricing. The food is quite decent for the price. They regularly stink the place out with old smells of frying fish, grudgingly opening the door and watching the thermostat temperature if anyone complains. The waitresses give positively third-world service. There is hardly any attention paid by them to hygiene or food handling.
Loved the bento box. Not glamorous, but food was great, service was fine, prices great.
