The sushi here you cannot find everywhere specially for that price. They have these flamed rolls called ABURI which are super delicious as well as the pressed OSHI sushi rolls! Many vegetarian options for me as well. Best quality sushis I've experienced in Vancouver with a lovely vibe atmosphere
Came here from UBC after attending a workshop. It was pretty early (around 5) but we were playing badminton later on so we needed to eat early enough. NOTE: Some of these prices are from the website, and I think they may be slightly outdated. It was our first time being here and we decided to come here because the reviews weren’t bad and also the food seemed relatively inexpensive. I got a california roll, salmon cone, some nigiri, and another roll to share.
Best Brown Rice Veggie Sushi in Vancouver!. If you're looking for great Brown Rice Sushi than look no further. In the recent years Kitstaya sushi has changed management and their brown rice sushi has improved drastically. Although the atmosphere or service may not be the greatest, I can always count on Kitstaya Sushi for a cheap, healthy, fast lunch or dinner. I highly recommend their brown rice Vegetable Roll and brown rice Avocado Roll. Both of them are under $3 and are HUGE! If you want to treat yourself, the spicy tuna roll is great as well.
Good Value. Fast, good, well priced sushi. My go-to place for sushi. Very good portions for their price.
Not the best sushi around, but the best value. If you want higher end sushi, look elsewhere.
The service is usually fast and friendly. Food is tasty and priced right. Recommend!
Yummy. Different and yummy sushi. Started with miso soup and a side salad which were good. I liked that the salad didn't have much dressing. The rainbow rolls were interesting. Each piece had a different color from the different meat. Loved the variety.
Great place for a quick bite.. I love the vegetable yakisoba it is tasty even without meat to add flavour. The portions obey the Goldie locks rule, not too many veggies, not too many noodles but just right. The noodles are yummy I doublt they're homemade but they seem like it. I've had rolls there too but will update my review the next time.
HOT Night Roll. You know exactly what you are going to get with this place. It is inexpensive, quick and delicious. If you want service with a big smile, go elsewhere, they just do their job, no fanciness about it. I have never had to wait long to be seated or to be served. The food comes quickly, the tea is always hot and quite delicious and they have a huge menu.
Lunch box. Becoming a noon hour regular here. As the broken record that is my lunch choice skips away I order a box with california rolls with chicken teriyaki and udon. Efficient and expedient for when I'm in a rush is a good thing plus the food is good and the prices reasonable. When in a rush it's all about timing.
Awesome tempura. The vegetable tempura was outstanding though that's like saying the fries stood out more than the burger. Getting it too crispy or too soggy doesn't work for me it needs to be hot and crispy. Meals for me have as much to do with mind set as they do with taste. The tempura in the dynamite rolls was also crispy and the rice had just the right stickiness. Good meal with no wait.
Quick and cheap. Had an early dinner and instead it wasn't "fast food" sushi like I assumed. Got a tea right after sitting down and sipped away while finally deciding on california rolls agedashi tofu. The sauce was yummy.
Yummy sashimi. I had a craved something cold, spicy and fish. Spicy salmon sashimi and spicy scallop rolls filled the void. I don't know what it is but there's no feeling of guilt when I order thirds (or fourths... or fifths) no judging eyes peering through me or it's all in my head I dunno... I've avoided coming here on the weekend since it's crowded and there's always a few people hovering around the door waiting for their take out though it was kind of like that today. It's a sign of the sunny times i suppose.
Box Lunch. I always seem to get a bento box for lunch... The one I ordered covers all the bases. It came with chicken, rice, a bit of salad, california rolls and mixed tempura. Everything was delicious and the portions of each are large except for the salad. On Broadway there are plenty of options but it's either going to be slow and expensive or just not that great so save my seat I'll be back.
I know there is no shortage of sushi in the city but sometimes price is a factor. I had spicy tuna sashimi with my box and the portions are big enough for me. The tuna was fresh and the tempura in my box was a little crisper than usual. There was a bit of a wait today but on a sunny Sunday afternoon that can't be avoided.
Awesome dynamite rolls. The dynamite rolls I ordered were lovely. I'm a bit of a sushi wimp and like my food at least a bit cooked. They were well wrapped and not falling apart all over my plate so I ordered seconds. This isn't a big restaurant and was busy for the waitress/hostess but not too crazy that I didn't get my orders.
Good rainbow rolls. It was a little busy in here today I probably because of the weather. To start I was feeling a little adventurous so instead of getting california rolls I went for the rainbow rolls which are kind of like california rolls with the avacado and rice but different fish on top. Seeing the presentation brings a smile to my face with all the different colours. The added benefit was that I got to have more than one kind of fish all on the same plate. I ended with an order of BC Rolls which filled me up nice.
Sushi on the run. I walked in and got seated within a few seconds. The waitress brought miso to start though nothing nothing novel for a Japanese restaurant. What was interesting was that it had chunks of crap in it. For dinner I ordered the tuna and salmon combo and an order of dragon rolls. I just love how they came out on a long plate looking so artsy. Fast service without missing the bus.
Sashimi and rolls. I walked in, was seated right away and my order was taken. I started with a tea and miso soup while I waited for my dinner. I was going to get a bento box but ended up having tuna sashimi, spider rolls and yam tempura. The bento box would have been cheaper but for less than $30 including tax and tip I treated myself to a delicious dinner.
Quick quick quick. I had spicy tuna rolls and spicy california rolls. Ordering california rolls is pretty reflexive but I've never had them spicy and I liked it. When I have more time to eat I'll have to try more rolls and write an update. For the speed and price I'm thumbing up.
Box B. Broadway I picture chain restaurants and fast food not sushi but I had a craving. I ordered box B which came with california rolls, chicken teryaki and vegetable udon. I'm not a fan of chicken teryaki but it was good. I was more interested in the rolls/udon and they were both tasty especially the udon on a crummy day. For just around $12 including tax and tip I'll be coming back.
Quick and good. Our server was nice and took my order quickly while checking back occasionally. Got my miso and tea right off which is important for me. The best parts of my order were the toro and salmon sashimi. Ordering single items instead of a combo is usually expensive but it wasn't too bad here and the fish was yummy so no complaints. Plus this was the first time I've had tuna outside of a can or a roll :)
Scallop magma roll. Yum specialty rolls. Scallop Magma! The service is actually very nice. As a Chinese-owned place, they are all about "less talk, more work". They might not talk with much of a smile or make fluffy cheerful conversation, but their service is about fulfilling all their customers needs as fast as possible. No nonsense.
By the way, to the poster Ryan JG Morgan: you think you can get sharkfin for 3 or 4 bucks? It's imitation sharkfin made with a type of starch!
Great value good food. Prices were good.
Portions were nice.
Many of the pieces were cut too large.
Shared the canuck, the smoked salmon and the victoria, all were tasty.
I be back.
Our favorite sushi in Vancouver. Though I know there's more authentic and better (and more expensive that goes along with that) in Vancouver, this place is our favorite. It's got good food, at a great price, and plenty of it. You won't walk away hungry in this place! The staff is very friendly, very fast (usually unless it's packed, which can't be avoided), the food very fresh. We also like the atmosphere. It's simple and clean. The free underground parking is great too! My favorite dish is the spicy tuna sashimi and it's always been extremely fresh and tasty. Our next favorite is the bento boxes, $6.95 - $7.95. I can never finish all that's in them. A great place for those who have to watch their dollars when dining out.
My 'go to' local sushi place. This place is crazy busy and for good reason. Good value and really good quality. Their special rolls are excellent, particularly my favourite, the Hot Night roll and the Kitstaya roll with mango. Service is quick too.
The negative reviews of this place are baffling to me. I've eaten sushi at tons of places, especially in Kits, and this place is my favourite.
Try it!!!!. Today it's my first time been there for dinner..We all people orderd a tray, 48 pcs all fish stuff.Their sashimi has reasonable quality, and they have a pretty wide selection of items that taste pretty good. For japanese food ."Kitstayasushi" they're way better than some of the other Japanese restaurant in west area(vancouver).
Great all day specials. The food is not gourmet, but really not bad at all. We both enjoyed our Chicken Teriyaki bento box dinners...they call them "lunch" boxes but they are available all day. The price and portions in the choice of several bento boxes at $6.-$8. is great. Plus they still accept the Entertainment Coupons printed under the name Kitsilano Sushi.
Food service with complementary Japanese green tea was good. We were seated promptly and served by a friendly server who refilled our tea 3 times without having to be asked. Nice to have an affordable local eatery in the neighbourhood. Happy customers here!
Sushi. This restaurant is always busy! Price is pretty standard for a sushi bar. The food is great though and the chefs are fast!
