I really enjoy this ramen place!
Foodora delivers for them, so it's great if I want ramen at home. However, there are a lot of ramen places in Vancouver. If I were looking at quality, Touhenboku has some staunch competition in its neighbourhood, like the ever-popular Santouka Ramen on Robson.
After coming home from Japan in September, I tried these guys out.
If you're big on meat, like I am, then their slices of meat might seem a bit meagre, as they cut the chashu slices a little too thin, in my opinion. The Meat Lover is a good option if you want more meat.
The pork broth is decent! I haven't tried their chicken broth or chicken karaage. I've tried both their regular white broth and black (garlic) broth with a pork base. The black ramen has an intense garlic flavour, though. So I sometimes just ask for the garlic seasoning for it on the side to slowly add when needed, because having it in the whole ramen is too overwhelming for my taste.
Their gyoza are delicious. I really enjoyed them!
Overall, it's a decent place to grab some good, affordable ramen. Bonus points are given by me for being one of the few ramen places that allows delivery.
Yay finally another chicken-based ramen restaurant! Main difference in their ramen offering are the customizable options -- one of them being pure chicken broth with no pork. This will be a unfamiliar ramen flavour to a lot of people since pretty much all the other popular places are pork-based.
Ramen: 🍜 I enjoyed the original flavour and appreciated the low amount of lard and grease. It was flavourful and full of the essence of chicken. The ajitama (egg) and chasiu was standard.
Chicken Karaage: 😋 crispy, fresh, tasty, meaty and mildly salted with a side of mayonnaise and lemon.
Service: very good and attentive servers and the food came fast.
Recommended for those who enjoy chicken-based soup stock for ramen. I had the original soup chicken soup base and was pleasantly surprised, I'm typically a tonkotsu fan, and had not had many tasty chicken-based ramen. With many options to choose from when deciding on your ramen: soup base, protein, seasoning, noodle type, it is reminiscent of the style of menu offered by Ramen Danbo, providing diners with the ultimate customized ramen experience. I also ordered the chicken karaage and found it to be perfect. It appears to be made-to-order because the staff let me know it could take up to 10min for the appetizer to be ready. Lightly breaded, perfectly fried chicken with moist and tender meat inside. The lemon slice and mayonnaise dip is a good sidekick to the dish, complementing the fried chicken.
Excellent ramen all around and great passionate service. I'm pretty sure we were served by everyone at one point all as passionate about working there and the menu. I did find their custom ramen menu a bit confusing, but non the less unique. The broth, noodles, chasu, ajitama and toppings were all excellent. This felt less rushed and almost more like they were trying to create a full dining experience here than other ramen spots. They gave us a free brownie cake at the end to promote their deserts. Too be honest it was good, but I'd tell them to focus on their amazing ramen.
Today myself, and a few noteworthy bloggers were at the newly open “Touhenboku”, to try what the newest ramen place had to offer. They were yet another ramen place opened in the Deman and Robson area. Another one to add to the existing four. So what makes them your go to when there are so many others to choose from, that you may walk past first? Well we were here to find out just that during this media event.
Meal: Dinner
One-liner: Fun, build-your-own ramen that’s different in the Vancouver scene and guarantees a fresh bowl, though the desserts a little blah
Highlight: Red (Spicy) Ramen
Estimated cost per person: $17
Would I go back? Yes.

I first tried Touhenboku when I was in Toronto last summer so I was excited to try their new restaurant here at home.
First observation - clean and crisp decor and the staff were friendly and attentive.
I liked having the ability to build my own bowl of ramen. I ordered the Spicy Red Meatlover Chashu ramen with pork broth, sea salt and pork belly. The ramen arrived in less than 10 mins (not too bad) despite being advised the ramen takes a little longer to prepare as its made to order.
The food was delicious. I particularly enjoyed the texture of the noodles, the flavourful broth and the fact that the ramen came with nori and an egg. Gyoza and Ebi-mayo were great as well.
Overall, it was a great meal and I will be back.
Although it was a bit of a wait, but I still think it is worth the wait. The customer service was awesome. The soup base was delicious. Love the Japanese cheesecake. The price was decent. For sure I will come back again.
This past weekend, Touhenboku Ramen at 854 Denman Street (Denman and Haro) starting serving ramen lovers. This location marks Touhenboku’s first location in Vancouver and fourth in Canada (the other three are in the Greater Toronto area)
