This is a small bakery/cafe with two locations in Downtown with a good menu of sandwiches, pies and other baked goods, and drinks. I've previously visited their location on Davie, and have quite enjoyed their treats. More recently, I've had a chance to visit their location Beach, near False Creek. During this visit, I had their Salted Caramel Apple Pie, Pumpkin Cream Cheese Muffin, Rhubarb & White Chocolate Scone, and Butter Tart. I did find the crust of their pie to be a tad underbaked on this occasion, but I did really enjoy their butter tart. Their prices are also fairly reasonable (I don't know the exact cost of everything since they didn't have price tags on a lot of their goods, but the total came to around $12). I haven't had a chance to try any of their breakfast/lunch items, but their baked goods are worth checking out.

Salted Caramel Apple Pie (around $5):
3.5/5
The filling was very tasty: the apples were well cooked, being tender while retaining some crispiness and bite. They had a wonderful sweetness that paired well with the sweetness of the caramel, which had a nice caramelized flavour. I found the crust to be a tad too hard/crunchy for my liking, although it did have a nice, slightly salty flavour. I did also find the bottom crust to be a bit raw.

Pumpkin Cream Cheese Muffin ($2.85):
3.5/5
The muffin was relatively tender, mildly sweet, and had a nice hint of spice. The pumpkin seeds were nicely toasted and crunchy. I was a bit disappointed by the lack of cream cheese inside however.

Rhubarb & White Chocolate Scone (around $2):
3.5/5
The scone was quite tender and while not exactly moist, wasn't dry either. The rhubarb provided a nice bit of tartness. I do find the filling to be a bit sparse however: there were only a few pieces of rhubarb and chocolate. The scone itself was flavourful enough to be enjoyed on its own however.

Butter Tart (around $2):
4/5
I've had their butter tarts before, and it was as good I as remembered. The crust was tender while the filling was thick, sweet, and had a wonderful caramelized flavour.

Summary:
Food: 3.5/5
Price: 4/5
Service: N/A
Overall: 3.5/5
Recommendations: Butter Tart, Pies

Been eating here for about 10 years. The lunch specials were always amazing and the portion sizes were big. When new ownership took over, the specials changed They're still good but not great and the portions shrunk enough that i no longer eat lunch here. And put some dressing on your bland salads!!!! The pies are still just as amazing though, by the slice or take home and bake the whole thing yourself. Raspberry sour cream pie!!!! The best!!!! A good coffee and a snack kinda place

I was parked out front and decided to try out Tartine for lunch. Overall I was satisfied with my lunch and a little less with the pie. Service was fast and friendly.

I asked for their most popular sandwich and tried the oven-roasted turkey sandwich. The multi-grain bread was the best part; warm and fresh with a brilliant crispy crust. The cranberry mayo was the second best part - one of the better sauces I've had on a turkey sandwich. Turkey was a little dry but that seems fairly common for most turkey sandwiches you get.

I also decided to order a piece of pie as it is what they are supposed to be known for. I ordered the coconut creme because it's my favourite pie. Crust was nice and flaky throughout, whip creme was thick and tasty but I thought it was a little chincy on the filling (see picture). There were some bites that the filling was maybe 10% of the whole biting experience.

I would recommend and try again - lots of sandwiches to choose from. I'd definitely work my way through the menu to see what the other palate pleasing items they make.

Pies were our prize. Sometimes the food you review comes right to you. At the hospital ward where I work, we've been engaged in a testing project that's too repulsive to be mentioned on Urbanspoon. We've apparently been doing it well enough that management gave us a couple of surprise pies from Tartine as a prize.

I found them middle of the road. The best thing about the pumpkin/pecan one was the nuts on top -- a pile of brown-sugar-coated crispness. The pumpkin filling was tasty, far better than from-the-can versions I've had at innumerable Thanksgiving dinners. The edge crust was crispy, a bit thick but not too tough. The crust under the filling had gotten gummy by the time I got to it and was hard to scrape off the glass pie dish. It was the opposite problem with the graham cracker crust on the vanilla cream-meringue pie. It was so crumbly there were little "crust dunes" of graham bits all over the pie plate. The filling was so blah I had to think hard about "what flavour is this, anyway?"

So overall, Tartine's pies were OK because they were free. Not on the level of Tartine Bakery in San Francisco, one of that gourmet-minded city's top dessert bakeries. But I'll remember these pies from the Vancouver Tartine for a long time, because I swiped one of the glass dishes they came in. It's not exactly stealing, because it had the name of this disgusting disease we're testing for etched on the bottom. If any customer read that on the pie plate, they'd toss their cookies.

Tartine is most famous for their tarts and pies, but they do have sandwiches and soups on their menu as well.  I have tried their butter tarts on a few occasions.  The tarts have a nice buttery shortbread crust.  Here is a throwback photo from last year of when they had a Canada Day celebration where they offered their butter tarts for free! I have also bought pecan and butter tarts for my work place.  A few of my colleagues are fans of Tartine so the treats were well received.  The lady put them in a box and I just nicely presented the tarts on my own plate.

Mon – Sat 7:00 am – 8 pm Sun 7:00 am – 6 pm A friend of mine had seen this cafe as he did his daily jogging route and wanted to check out the place. It was nestled in the quiet neighbourhood of Yaletown-ish area away from the busy streets and crowd of pedestrians (though I guess that’s not a good location then for a cafe…) It was close to empty, but it did have an on going flow of customers coming in and taking something out. We ordered the coconut cream pie $3.75, a cookie $1.50 and iced latte $3.25. Not sure if the staff wanted to treat us since it was already in the evening, so perhaps they wanted to get rid of the pie since it was going to go bad anyways. Well, the piece we got was huge!! Never seen a cafe serve such gigantic piece of pie! Even with both of us, we couldn’t finish it. Well, that was perfectly fine, because I had more from it later in the night..kekeke…I couldn’t resist! It was SO good! Yes, I know, 90% was just cream…so unless you’re a cream person like me, you migh

...Tartine Bread and Pies is a newly opened cafe that could find it’s way to the ranks of Vancouver’s best. First of all, it’s getting a little ridiculous how much a slice of pie can cost you – I’ve seen it range from $7-12 just for a slice of pie. You’re looking at an upward of $20 for whole gourmet pies. And while maybe in some context, the price is justified for organic or local reasons, my wallet still can’t justify it on a regular basis. Tartine smashes this with pies that are under $5 a slice. Their whole pies are $18. These prices are so much more reasonable. But while some don’t mind paying the pre

I love pie...almost like I love doughnuts. Lately I've been all about coconut cream pie , but Jubilee told me about Tartine  and its awesome banana cream pie. It's in my hood but I just never got around to popping in. Then my special day rolled around and Jubilee , being the sweet bug she is, brought one to me. She's actually like a little fairy, sprinkling her infectiously happy pixie dust here and there and basically everywhere. That pie was everything I wanted and needed it to be...Trifecta of delicious... What a happy way to start a year older.

Usually after dinner, there is always room for dessert! In this case, we had two different choices of desserts, Cupcakes and Butter Tarts! I absolutely love the combination of a cupcake topped with a delicious buttercream frosting, and warm soft butter ta
