Review Cacao 70 - Vancouver

Asma Hamdi
Over all my experience was just ok, the place as soon as you come in you feel it is a nice and well organized place, beautiful when it comes to decoration, atmosphere was also good, menu has lot of options to choose from, the waiting time was a bit long but still reasonable I will say but my major downside is the taste of the food. It was nothing special about it salad without dressing just plain, eggs too even potato wedges was cold hard and simply tasteless (Safeway wedges are better honestly) the chef was just putting ingredients together without any special touch so for the price I was a bit disappointed also quantities are bit small. Honestly I went there for branch but I guess the place is specialized in chocolate and sweets so for sure I will not go food again but I might give it another try to see the desert options they have. I also noticed but maybe it was just a coincidence that the manager was more welcoming and taking very good care of certain guests then others! (By keeping in checking on them, sitting with them and explaining them the menu, serving them the food way faster then our waiting time and even stop by from time to time to inform them food is coming or to make sure they are happy) I will suggest to show the same amount of care to all customers to prevent any miss understanding.

It was my first time at Cacao 70 and I can guarantee it will not be the last time. The food was really delicious. My friend and I shared the Bring-it-all-on dish. OMG it was better than expected. We got an extra fondue because we could not limit ourselves to just dip our food in this melted sweet godlike liquid. I highly recommend this restaurant. Apparently they have salty food like sandwiches and omelets... but our interest was definitely CHOCOLATE.

I was very impressed at the entire design, desserts, atmosphere and staff! Was an enjoyable time, perfect for hangouts and casual "get to know you" dates. Loved the menu options and the portions, nothing says "foodie" like a matcha fondue. Located on Granville strip or close by English bay you choose what kind of day it is... Skip to dessert or save it for last~

Great milkshake. Excellent smores and chocolate pizza. Great hot drinks. They could work on the service though, takes a while untill you communicate your order to the staff and they are not the friendliest bunch.

The ham sandwich was the best sandwich I've had in a while. And the waffles and ice-cream are to die for. The marshmallow roasting was fun but nothing special. It was cool that you could roast your own (in our case burn our own :D marshmallows)

Came here for dessert and I guess it didn't quite meet my expectations because there was quite a bit of hype when this place was about to open. The atmosphere is great and it's very clean and organized. The waffles were ok but Nero waffles definitely is better but they are a chocolate place so might not be fair to compare their waffles to Neros who is known for waffles. The hot chocolate wasn't bad

Awesome food and very kind and friendly service. We had the black and white waffle, illegal chocolate waffle and mediterranian frittata and it tasted amazing... i have had waffle at other places in vancouver but this was the best in every way... more quantity for money and many different options for sweet as well as savoury. I loved the seating space as well as the food presentation.

hot chocolate is pretty good. You can tell they use real chocolate chips instead of powder. My girlfriend had the after party waffle. It looks amazing. It’s a good place for couples to spend some time together. They many different chocolate dessert.

I was really excited to come here as I love anything chocolate. First I want to say how beautifully decorated this cafe is. For the size of the cafe I would deem it to be a perfect balance of tables, chairs, and empty space. While there was only one server, they handled all customers in a timely manner and I was very impressed with the service. As for the food, I had eaten a meal about 30 minutes prior and was just craving chocolate so I ordered the classic milk chocolate fondue. It came nicely presented on a wooden platter with a whole brownie, cut up waffle pieces, and a dish of cut up assorted fruit. I ate this platter on my own and was fully satisfied and very full.

I also wanted to mention that while this cafe has "cacao" in their name, they also have other actual food options other than dessert. They have two menus-dessert and full on entrees. As I peered over at the gentleman and these other two ladies on each side of me, they seemed to be enjoying their food and the quantities were huge.

wats with all the negative reviews? this place was pretty cute and the desserts were really filling and nice, i mean ofc it was a biT on the expensive side but it's understandable considering its location. i probs wont come here ALL the time but its a nice place to hit up with ur girls to spill tea and take some cute insta pics with fondue lol

I consider myself to be the living embodiment of a fat kid hiding in a lanky thin shell. Having said that I love dessert! To be more specific I love what Cacao 70 has done with dessert. I found this place by chance and despite it being packed I was lucky enough to get a seat.

The things that this place has done with ice cream and waffles (among other things) is insane. I honestly thought if I were to die here I'd die a smiling mother!*$#

Whether you want a decent place for dessert or a nice place to impress your date this is the place.

#infatboywetrust

The cafe has such a nice atmosphere and very good service. However we ordered 2 frittatas and they both didn’t have any flavour or taste. Disappointing :(

This was alright. It’s a pretty basic fondue and honestly it wasn’t anything special. There was four little dishes of fruit (banana, apple, strawberry and pineapple), a cut up waffle and one brownie. Would I come back? No. I didn’t find the fondue to be anything special and there is no ventilation in the restaurant whatsoever. Also, the fondue pot was really deceiving! It’s maybe a half cup of chocolate per pot.

Their hot drinks are definitely pricy. Please be aware that double check the pricing as they are still undergo changing pricing and items on menu. I was excited to try some new items such as Frozen Hot Chocolate and I would love to order Raseberry Chocolate milkshake. However, apparently they have decided not to offer it anymore.. at least at Denman this location (Online menu is not updated :s)Cozy seating. Staff are helpful. Waited a bit for our orders, we went for Sunday afternoon 3pm ish.I would suggest they should put some music to spice up the experience!

Avoid! Expensive for very low quality product and bad service.

We went here since we used to go to the one in Montreal. But, we were surprised how horrible it was.

We got a bagel, which was tasteless and very skimpy for a smoked salmon bagel. Bagel tasted like the generic one at Safeways (not like a Montreal bagel), and smoked salmon was barely one thing slice (the tomato was thicker). Mind you...this costed $11.

We also got the combo for 2, which included stale graham crackers, hard marshmallow, half a banana, and like 2 strawberries (which were quartered). The waffles were deplorable, and the ice cream tasted like it was the cheapest brand of ice creme they could buy. Even the star item...the chocolate sauce...which is what they are known for...tasted like melted down Hershey's. This was $25.25.

Overall, horrible.

I would highly reconsider somewhere else.

Overpriced. $9.50 for a glass of hot chocolate and it was just ok. The crepe skin was too thin so it gets soggy fast. I don't think I would go back again.

I was really looking forward to visiting this one: a chocolate cafe specializing in chocolate fondue. Although, looking back, I feel I got taken by the artificial buzz of social media. It began with a poorly staffed service. We were kept waiting at the door, not to be acknowledged. There was only one server running around one the floor, and three chefs who stood behind the counter waiting on her. Although it was fairly busy for a Wednesday night. When we walked in, there was an issue with payment at a table, and one of the chefs only watched behind his counter as this server struggled. While he waited for her, he also met eyes with us, and the group of three standing behind us unseated, but he seemed to be more concerned in making sure he got paid correctly, than to pitch a hand front of house. Though when it came to bringing desserts to table, both he and his co-chefs served. Though you could see that he was unfamiliar with the process, bringing our drink to the neighbouring table and having to search out the server to ask her where it actually went.

Chocolate loving Vancouverites have a reason to celebrate because Cacao 70 Vancouver is now open. Chocolate-focused Cacao 70’s new location at 1047 Denman Street marks their 11th location in Canada and first expansion to the West Coast. In Quebec and Montreal, there are 10 Cacao 70 locations. I had visited their Downtown Montreal location in 2015 (see review here) and enjoyed my brunch experience then.

They make a variety of chocolate sauces in store, which they use in their chocolaty dishes. The menu is creative and the store is cute. This is "feel like chocolate".

Cacao 70 is a new restaurant in the West End in Downtown Vancouver serving up decadent chocolate treats for brunch or even late into the evening. They have other locations across Canada in Ontario, Montreal and Quebec. We were invited to come try their brunch items as well as other things on their menu.

We drove by and decided to stop by for late night desserts after having a late night meal up the street. We ordered three desserts, a sundae which was basically 3 large scoops of Vanilla ice cream top with fruits, a Nutella crepe with fruits, and a pizza. We asked for no chocolate on the sundae, less on the other two desserts. My crepe did not taste fresh, and was very chewy like it had been made early in the day and was just waiting around to be put together, I had at the most three bites. The pizza dessert was really sweet from the filling and the dough looked dry as well. We ended finishing mostly the vanilla ice cream on the sundae and didn't touch much else if our desserts...We ended up spending 55 dollars here just as much as we spent on our meal before we came here.

I guess you have to have an extra sweet tooth to come to a place like this, and as long as what your eating is smothered with their chocolate you can't go wrong..

Was wondering what was a Chocolate bistro, so I went there for lunch. I have ordered a simple ham and cheese crepe plus a cup of mocha. Was gonna try their hot chocolate, but over 10 bucks seems a bit to pricy. Everything taste good, and this lunch cost me $20. Wouldn't mind going back for an afternoon tea dessert though, coz I saw people having chocolate fondue for lunch. ;-).
