Review Cheesecake Etcetera - Vancouver

Vanessa Yau
My family has been coming here for about 40 years ever since it opened. My mom brought her cousins here when they were kids and it is till this day the best cheesecake I’ve ever had. Live music is back and better than ever. 10/10 recommend to anyone. Cheesecake is creamy and fluffy without it being too filling. Will always suggest the original cheesecake with blueberry or strawberry. London fog is my go to drink choice. Atmosphere is amazing and would be a great first date place. I love sitting here with my family, sitting and talking till late at night

Fantastic velvet cheesecake. Rich and silky texture with a hint of chocolate to the taste. On top of that, the blueberry jam is so fresh that it’s citric flavour balanced out the aftertaste. Every bite is a fresh beginning. With a sip of cappuccino and light jazz, this weekend evening is just perfect!

Standard of soft cheesecakes:) Cheesecake house opens at 7pm and closes at 3am? It sounds weird but super hot ;) It’s worthy to try and love to eat again, I regret I ordered 2 pices only. I can eat wholesize.. Thanks to Doordash, I can eat this fabulous cheesecake in my bed. Their whipped cream and strawberry toppings are perfect. OMG I miss this and can’t wait to order tonight!

my friend introduced me to this place a few years ago when i came to visit her. on every occasion that i have visited, i have begged to come back here. the cheesecake is excellent, especially when paired with strawberries or raspberries, and the drinks, while simple, feel luxurious. the servers themselves are very kind and the atmosphere is lovely but i miss when singers used to perform in the evenings. it is easy to get caught up in the atmosphere that by the time you leave it is well passed midnight. even though my friend is moving and even though it won’t be the same, i plan to continue coming here in the future.

Very good cheese cake. Cozy and nice ambiance. There is always a line, we were the first in line so was able to get w a table quickly. Piano was a very nice touch, recommended to try

One of the best cheesecake in town, I tried all flavours and my personal fav would be chocolate cheesecake with strawberry topping, I would say the strawberry topping would be perfect match with any cake. However, they do charge few dollars for hot water, so if you want something hot, order a tea or coffee.

Great spot for classic cheesecake! The cake is unique in that it doesn't have the graham crust and is just the cheese! Not overly sweet and very light and fluffy. It's a dimly lit interior and walls decorated in jazz posters and photos. Very classic space!

Oh my! I've been looking for a dessert spot for cheesecake and this place doesn't disappoint! We got there at 9pm Saturday and there was a line up outside, took about 20 mins to get in. Unlike many places, here you order and pay first before getting seated. We ordered 2 original cheesecakes, one with strawberry topping and the other with chocolate sauce on the side. The cake itself was super light , almost to the point of being "airy". The strawberry topping has great flavours and the first tasted fresh! Combined the cheesecake was one of the best I've had. The chocolate sauce was a bit too sweet for is. Had to dilute it a bit with the wipe cream before dipping on the cake. Overall, we'll be back!

Decent cheesecake. Personally I prefer a denser style cheesecake. I am disappointed that sometimes they have to rush out slices before they have been refrigerated long enough. Or sometimes they are a bit frozen (made in house you want see them at times making them)But I guess that comes with the popularity of the place.

This place offers THE BEST cheesecake i’ve had till date. And trust me! I’ve tried tonnes of them all over the world. The ambience is pretty cool too! Live music on a piano! Classic cheesecake with caramel sauce and pecans is my all time favourite! Never got enough of this place

the original cheesecake was fluffy and less heavy than usual ones and the matcha one was more heavy and filling. the ambiance was good, tables were spacious. however, there were simply not enough servers. We had to fight for their attention constantly and we felt neglected.
Foodcomaislife
The best cheese cake restaurant in Vancouver! Love that they’re only open at night (7-1pm) and it sets a great date night vibe. My favourite cheese cake is the original cheese cake with strawberry sauce. They recently added a new cheesecake on the menu, the matcha cheesecake. It tastes fine but there are other places that have better matcha things than here.

An unique place to enjoy:<br/>Cheesecake + espresso + music<br/>A good place to stay longer with friends after dinner <br/>And they served new product matcha cheesecake <br/>Original one is always my favourite

We suppose if you were to list a quintessential dessert haunts in Vancouver, it would have to include this classic. Been around for decades, Cheese Cake Etc does a smooth and creamy texture excels at amplifying the original taste of their cheesecakes, that any dessert lover might enjoy.
Laura
Total date night spot. Cozy, candle lit table, low light setting where you can share stories while diving into a bit of smooth soft cheesecake cradled in choice of caramel, chocolate or strawberry sauce with whipped cream on the side. Again, please!

***AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE***<br/><br/>We sat down with 5 girls and waited about 25 mins before we even got any service at all. One of my friends called our server and asked a simple question. "Can we please get some water for the table?" Instead of saying yes, she responded with "You can get anything if you just ask" and walked off. <br/><br/>Why would you even be a server if you have that kind of attitude to your paying customers? All we did is ask for some water.<br/><br/>And on top of that, when we asked the male server for her name, he told us they are not allowed to give out names here. <br/><br/>Are you serious? You mouth off your customers with this type of attitude and expect people to come back?<br/><br/>I really hope the owner sees this review because this type of service is absolutely unacceptable.<br/><br/>I would not recommend this joint to my worst enemies. Unless you want to be treated like garbage.

A couple friends and I were craving an after dinner snack, as we found ourselves nearby the often-raved about "Cheesecake, etc.". Located at the South Granville section of town, it’s referred to by many as a cheesecake paradise that could use a bit better lighting (more on that later). Although I don’t come here as often as I would like, I always anticipate indulging in not just the scrumptious selections that the dinery has to offer, but also the soulful jazz music that accompanies the food.

What I ate: Original Cheesecake with Pears and Chocolate ($6.67) Original Cheesecake with Strawberries ($6.19). This was pretty standard. I personally love New York style cheesecake so this fell a bit short for me. I’m also a huge fan of pears, so I was pretty disappointed that these seemed to be canned pears.

You step in and you can smell the musty of old buildings. Personally, I love that- but I feel like it may not be for some. The two seating sides give off very different vibes. It's quite dark. The left side of the restaurant are old timey, dark, romantic and the right side is more art gallery-esque. My partner and I always order the chocolate cheesecake with peanut butter cream. If you like cheesecake that is dense and with a crust, this place is not for you. If you like a fluffy cheesecake like I do, then give this place a try! It might be your favourite. I am not fond of the fruity cheesecakes- the topping just doesn't seem good to me. Recently tried the regular cheesecake with toasted pecans and caramel sauce- very good. Will be back soon.

Best of cheesecakes in Vancouver! Their cheesecake is so creamy and not too rich. They have been around since the 70's, that tells you something how good the quality of their cheesecakes.
Pranshu Shelat
The cheesecakes were okay. Not that great and not a good variety either. Personally, not sure what the hype is for.<br/><br/>Food - 3.5/5<br/>Service - 4/5<br/>Ambiance - 4.5/5<br/>Value for money - 3/5<br/><br/>It's okay if you skip this one.

The place is almost frozen in time.  The menu is basically a raisin & walnut cake, and plain cheesecake, a chocolate cheesecake topped with whipped cream, and various fruit or  caramel or chocolate sauces.  And tea and espresso drinks. The menu hasn’t substantially changed in over 30 years, but it seems to have served them well, since here they are all these years later, and they’re still in business.  They’ve expanded the space a couple of times, taking over the neighboring stores and expanding their dining room into each.
CaptainNemo
I have been here quite a few times already and it has always been pretty good.  However, this was the one time that I realized that there isn't a crust on the cheesecake.  Not too sure why, but I thought there was one in the past, but I thought wrong.  The cheesecake itself was pretty good, I have tried the chocolate, the strawberry and the cherry.  The specialty coffee's are quite different from the regular coffee's from other cafe's.  I would want to go back to try other flavors as well.
Chicas
This is my favourite place for cheesecake. Their cheesecake is lighter and softer texture than most other cheesecake places in town. This place doesn't have much customer service. One time we waited for almost 45 mins to get serve although we already seated. The place is quite busy every time we cone here. The price is not cheap but for me it is worth it since I have a sweet tooth and I love cheesecake. Lately we go there and order the whole cheesecake to go since we are not impressed with the customer service. I tried their other desserts and bread but didn't like any of them besides cheesecake with strawberries. Their cappuccino is weak and I can make way better cappuccino than this place. My family also love the cheesecake here a lot including my grandmother. The rating is only for the cheesecake because it tastes so good.
Jelizatin Eats
Cheesecake, etc. opens late which is rare for Vancouver. We find ourselves coming back here because of the crust-less cheesecake (which we prefer). The original cheesecake is our go to, and for drinks the apple cider surprisingly goes great with the cheesecake. <br/><br/>Decent service, but when it gets busy don't expect anyone to check up on you. Prices are fair.

If you are the fan of sweet. This is perfect for you.<br/>I came here since 2012. It is 4 years in a row.<br/>It is the best cheese cake. I always order the orgitional with no Siriup. <br/>Every time I can see they make it fresh. The cheese cake is soft n less sweet<br/>Plus the tea n chocolate drink is delicious. <br/>The only thing is so dark .

went here after a dinner, definitely not bad, the place is spacious, the staff are attentive, and friendly. the food, or the one that we tried is a couple teas and a couple of cheese cakes, all of them are definitely good, but as i'm not a big fan of desert, i think it was decent, maybe it'll make a difference to someone who does like sweet stuff. but yea good place to hangout and the desert are definitely alright in my opinion. <br/><br/>ps. definitely still better than your random desert places but in par with those good ones.
YVR Foodie
Such a beautiful place for a date dessert night. I love it here, with the nice live piano music in the background and just eating cheesecake and sipping on tea with your significant other. Perfect date night, unless you're lactose intolerant then better take that lactase pill before you come here.
Karen
Rated 4.0 for ambience and live piano music on occasion. Their original flavour cheesecake with strawberry sauce is my fav. Because their cheesecake is less cream cheesey and dense, I sometimes feel like 1 slice is not enough 😅. I also like their tiramisu latte and I'd recommend you to get that I'd cheesecake isn't your thing. They also have a Shanghai Fog which is a jasmine green tea latte that's really nice. 😋

January 2, 2016 · by ThatShanghaiGirl · Cheesecake! Cheesecake! Cheesecake! I completely understand why people rave about this place, the cheesecake here is love in a slice of cake, creamy, amazingness.
Zef
I only gave it a 2 because I have a fondness for cheesecake, even though the cheesecake here is nothing to rave about. This place has long past it's time and there are much better options for coffee and desserts around the city. The lighting is dim, but that may be on purpose to hide the dated decor, but I suppose some may find it romantic.
Alpaca Lunch
Cheesecake, Etc. has a very romantic and antique-y atmosphere. It’s dimly lit and accented with red candle light. Occasionally, the owner can be found serenading the guests on the piano. On the other hand, service here is quite atrocious, it’s difficult to get anyone’s attention. Sometimes the staff take forever to even come by your table to take your order and forever to get the cake to you considering everything is premade. Their menu selection is small, but I usually always order the original with strawberry sauce anyway. I’ve tried other flavours, but none of them compared to the original.<br/><br/>A plain slice of cake is $5 plus but can range to $7 depending on the sauce. Their cheesecakes here do not have a crust, so don’t be expecting that graham goodness that most cheesecakes are constituted of. My original was light, soft, creamy, smooth and full of cheesecake flavour. Think more mousse and less New York cheesecake. If you like your cheesecakes dense, Cheesecake, Etc. is not for you. Both the whip and the strawberry sauce is homemade. It’s fresh and not too sweet. I love the chunks of strawberries in the sauce. Though it’s good, I must say that it’s undeniably overpriced.

Went last Friday after a epic meal at Anna Lena and wanted a dessert nightcap! We got 4 different cheesecakes and when we got back to condo to eat them, all were frozen still in middle , terrible taste, all 4 of us had tummy issues nxt day as well. Just saying....not as it once was! Better off getting mcd soft serve as a safe bet!
Soheyl
Very soft cheesecake, friendly staff, convenient hours, lots of space. They should have more choices though, and the portions can be a bit bigger for that price.

Went to this place on a late evening, haven't been here for along time, they have expanded, from 1 store space to 3 store space, no line up on this time, got sat down right away, some small Changes to the menu, small additional items, price has gone up, order 3 cheese cake, original with strawberry, original with black cherry, and original with mocha sauce, all were very good, same taste as before when they where only 1 store space, highly recommend for dessert lover, must try at least once.
JK.
Cheesecake. Need I say more? It's one of my favorite places for something sweet at night. It's bad..I know but so hard sometimes!!<br/>I always get the original with strawberries and mint tea. It's soft..creamy and you can taste the dairy in there which I love! The strawberries are sweet but not too sweet; enough to taste the berry without feeling too...bad. sometimes I'll order the entire cake to go - a good way to finish off a weekend. The service is always great, really dark inside but the other half of the store has a bit more lighting so you can ask to sit on the right side of the store if you prefer more lighting.<br/>

One of my favourite dessert places in Vancouver. I always get an original cheese cake with strawberry sauce. Can't go wrong with this choice! I tried over 10 times here so far, and every time I visited I had a very pleasant experience. This can be a nice dessert spot after romantic dinner and even ideal for a large group of people. And plus, they open till pretty late!<br/><br/>RATING<br/>Food           4.0/5.0<br/>Ambience   3.5/5.0<br/>Service       3.5/5.0<br/>Price           $

One of my favourite cheesecake places and I love how it's open really late (around 1 or 2). The interior provides a romantic feel since it's dark and lit by candle light, which is nice but it seems as if the portions have gotten smaller over time :(.

Been here countless number of times in my not so many years in Vancouver. By far the best cheesecake in the city. Be sure to try their original with blueberries. The ambience is perfect for a date night or even for a fun conversation with friends. Opens from 7pm to 1am and is mostly busy especially on weekends.
Deelicious604
I was surprised how small their menu was. There were only two types of cheesecake: original and chocolate.
The Hungry Asians
Smoothest Cheesecake in Vancouver!. Lovely ambiance with dimly lit lighting and candles on every table, including live music playing from the grand piano in the center of the restaurant. Our favorite desserts were the "Original Cheesecake with Blueberries" and the "Original Cheesecake with Strawberries". Both are elegantly presented and have the right amount of fruit flavoring with every bite of cheesecake. Their cheesecake is to die for as it's not overly rich to turn you off after the first bite. We guarantee it'll leave you wanting another slice!

Cool place but huge quality Disappointment!. It looks like a "cool" place to hang out but hallelujah if you are a real cheesecake lover just run away and run fast! This place is all about the nice presentation of the food but absolutely no quality! The cheesecake is not a real cheesecake! it doesn't taste like it ! It's not fresh and doesn't have the crust layer, Only two types of "cheesecake" -plain and chocolate with a variety of sauces to choose from, to be fair I like the idea of having lots of different sauces.
Andreadolan05
For the cheesecake lovers. I must admit that I am not particularly a cheese or cheesecake fan, so coming here I was already a little apprehensive if I may say, maybe a little biased. <br/><br/>In all honesty, the food looks amazing but does not taste as great as it looks, so I was a bit disappointed. I had the cheesecake with strawberries and it was just alright. Nothing special. I guess this place is more for cheesecake lovers than casual fans.
Kimmy
Love the cheesecake!!! So good! just that it's quite hard to find a waitress when needed.
Hungry In Vancity
Disappointment. Was so excited to try their cheesecake, but was very dissapointed. Only two types of "cheesecake" -plain and chocolate with a variety of sauces to choose from. Was served a flavourless foamy mousse, with cheap strawberry sauce on top. Expensive considering this isn't real cheesecake.
Sugarpeach
Neither Cheese nor Cake. I'm surprised some people are gushing over the "fluffy", "light" cheesecake. Cream cheese is heavy. Cream cheese also costs more than cream, which is probably why the cheesecake here is more cream than cream cheese.<br/><br/>It doesn't taste like cream cheese (the chocolate cheesecake doesn't taste like chocolate either) and it doesn't have any crust/base -- it can't even be accurately called cheesecake.<br/><br/>The place is now bigger but still dark and dusty. The fruit toppings are still watery and sad. On the plus side, when I visited last week, the place was mostly empty. Quite an improvement from the previous two visits, when the owner had loudly lectured other customers (last last year) and us (last year) about the superiority of his cheesecake compared with other places.<br/><br/>If you want expensive cheesecake, Trees is a far better option.
Wendy H
I agree with all the current reviewers. My cheesecake was frozen in the middle and when it was unfrozen it was waaaaay too soft. In addition, I ordered the vanilla latte and it was 50% foam and 50% latte. The only good part was the latte was hot and good but everything else was such a disappointment. I think this will be my last visit for the cheesecake but I'll be back for the latte but asking for no whip!!
AJ
Be prepared to be ignored if there are just 2 of you. I was so excited to try their cheesecake, however my experience here turned out to be a very disappointing one.I can't comment on the food itself,as we were ignored the entire time we were there, and decided to leave. It seemed to be a pretty slow Monday night when my boyfriend and I got there. We were greeted by a friendly hostess who took us to a table and things seemed to be off to a great start. Sadly it all went downhill from there. We sat there for ages waiting for a server to come by and take our order. After about 10 minutes of us waiting a party of 6 came in and was seated beside us.They waited for a couple minutes, when finally a server came over and took their orders. The server didn't say a word to us and walked off.The table beside us were given their cake and again no one came over to us.As we continued to wait another table of 6 came in and sat near us. Again the server went over to them, took their orders, looked up at us and turned away. At this point we were beyond annoyed and decided to leave. I have no problem waiting but being completely ignored and watching two other tables, who came in after us, getting served is completely unacceptable. It appeared as though we were being ignored on purpose, and seemed that in order to get any service we needed to have more than two people at our table. This was one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had and I will never be going back.
Logixx
Classic. This place has an old school style that suits the area nicely. quaint, classic small wooden tables and chairs, with live music on a regular basis (the piano player was very good the night we were there). The cheesecake is good, nothing super fancy but tasty and made well. the coffee is excellent, and the service is attentive but discreet. a great place that takes you back to a time where modern technology wasn't in your face everywhere you go. definitely worth a visit, and I appreciate the fact that they're open late.

Who needs to pay for hot water???????? Never coming here again<br/><br/><br/>-----05 May, 2014-----<br/><br/>GOOD CHEESECAKE BUT CHARGES FOR HOT WATER????? Who does that??? So dumb don't come here for hot water
Leanne
Terrible. This is NOT cheesecake. Mine was frozen in the middle. <br/><br/>Nice atmosphere for under-aged or non-drinkers, though. Too bad the cheesecake tastes NOTHING like cheesecake should taste.
D
Good Cheesecake. I love going to this cheesecake store because they are always genuine, nice and the food is delicious!
Jj
Don't order hot water. They charge you $1.25 without telling you!!! Beware. Service is terrible.
StarGazer
Very good moist cheesecakes. Service needs some work. The server let the pushy customers behind me get seated first when the line up was out the door. Drinks are decent. Lemonade tasted a bit watered down. Latte was good.
Iris
Is this even cheesecake?. Cheesecake is fluffy and not dense and rich of cream cheese. My friend ordered original cheesecake with the peaches (special) and they were flavourless canned peaches. I ordered chocolate cheesecake and it wasn't that surprising either. It tasted like chocolate cake more. I went again with my friends and they ordered original cheesecake with strawberries. To my surprise, they used strawberry puree. I don't understand the hype. For a place that's called CHEESECAKE, they fail at it. Never going back.
Pro_gluten
I went here with my lover for a night out. It looks cozy enough and appeared to be a great date location. <br/><br/>I ordered a tiramisu latte which tasted luke warm, not sure how that was done. My cheesecake was better than safeway or sAve on but not comparable to that of cactus club or earls. The cheesecake itsslf had no crust or shell. <br/><br/>My lover had a french cheese plate for 7 dollars. Was served with half a loaf of bread ( not individually cut) which was pre buttered. A side of butter was also placed on the dish. 2 grammy smith apples cut into slices surrounded the platter. The cheese was processed kraft singles of motzorella and cheddar. Hardly cheese you would expect. To top it off raspberry jam was served as well. <br/><br/>The entire platter left me with a headache. It made no sense!!! The tastes and lack of tastes did not work together <br/><br/>Take your money up to earls or cactus for a decend desert.
EatEatEat
I could eat this cheesecake all day long...with strawberries & whipped cream please!
Cooking Mama
The cheesecake is light and not too sweet. I usually get it to go to avoid the long line up. Always receive great service at this place when I do take out.

Etc etc..... I'm a fan of cheesecake and have been coming here for many years already but i found the cheesecake to be not as good as before...the drink menu is still very good though and not to mention the music :)

Great Late Night Cafe. We were looking for a late night place to get some dessert, and decided to go here. We had a fantastic little dessert. We each ordered the cheesecake, which is very fluffy, but delicious. They have quite a few toppings you can choose from, plus a different special every day. Occaisionally the owners will come down and play jazz as well, but that's a little hit and miss. The service was exceptional though. We got our order in literally like 2min. It's a nice atmposphere too. Candlelit and decently private too. All in all, and excellent place!!

All Around Bad Experience. My family has been a regular at Cheesecake Etc. for many years, but our latest visit will for sure be our last. We were seated at a table that still had dirty plates and cutleries. Our waitress cleared out the plates for us quickly, but she didn't even bother to wipe the table for us which consisted of spilled coffee and cheesecake. It took the waitress 10 minutes to provide us with menus, and after only giving us barely a minute of looking through the menu, she was back once again to take orders. We ordered the strawberry, blueberry, and raspberry cheesecake. And for drinks, we had the dessert latte, london fog, and lemon and honey water. We waited for over 45 minutes for desserts to arrive! We understand it was a busy night, but taking so long to cut cake and make simple drinks was unacceptable. Our drinks finally arrived after the long wait, and our waitress did not even recognize the amount of time we were left sitting there waiting. The dessert latte ($4) turned out to just their apple cider with whipped cream on top, and the london fog ($3.75) was just plain flavorless milk with an earl grey tea bag, definitely not worth the price. The hot water was $1.25 with a thin slice of lemon and they gave us a large bottle of honey on the side. Normally hot water presented this way would be free!! Our cheesecakes arrived after, and they looked delicious! However when we took our first bite, the cheesecake tasted really warm and old. The cakes were waaaaay too soft!! It was clear that the waitress forgot about us and left our cakes outside the fridge to sit. I used to be very fond of this place because of its dark and romantic atmosphere, but the desserts, drinks, and attentiveness of the waiters are not on par. After this experience at Cheese Etc. we are for sure not coming again.
Lily
Cheesecake is alright. Service is poor. Waitress bought wrong drinks and I politely reminded of drinks ordered. She came back and I said thank you for changing drinks.. She didn't look or say anything just slammed the tea cups and tea pot on the table, threw down the receipt and walked away! Shocking!!! It's not fair to deal with such negativity and have ur experienced spoiled because a waitress cannot her attitude. Oh and the "assistant" manager didn't do anything to make up for the bad experience. He said he will have a "chat" with her. <br/><br/>I think this Is a good example of how good places can be deteriorated by poor customer services...
Jase And Heth
The recipe was sound but to be basically re-hashing the recipe roughly twelve different ways but not prioritizing good quality ingredients (the fruit on the cakes isn't fresh) seems crazy to me. If this is all you do, do it to the absolute best of your ability. Price isn't every customers bottom line.
Jihn Smoth
Lovely atmosphere :). I loved the dark and spacious setting! Much bigger than what you would expect looking from the outside. I would say a good cozy place to go for a romantic date or with a group of friends. The items are simple and delicious, plus they have added a bunch of different holiday drinks for the season.<br/>Open till one am seven days a week, so if you are hungry for cheesecake in the middle of the night or after partying that's your place to go!

Terrible Customer Service!. I have been a regular and happy customer of Cheesecake Etc. for 10 years. I love their cheesecake, music, and atmosphere. However, tonight was my first unpleasant experience at their restaurant. <br/><br/>As soon as we were seated, the hostess/waitress who took us to our seats grabbed 2 forks and literally "dropped" them on the table. She did not place each fork in front of each person, but rather dropped them together on the table. Aside from being wet, the forks sat together on the table without napkins. When she returned later to take our order, she appeared emotion-less, and in a monotone and expression-less voice, asked us what we wanted to order and "is that it?" We said no, we would like to order drinks also. Expressionless and monotone again, she said "ok." We asked her for napkins to place our forks on. She said "ok" and that was the last time we saw of or heard from her. About 15 minutes later, another server brought our cheesecakes & drinks, as well as napkins to our table. We asked if we could have a comment card and he said he'll get the manager to come over to help us. A few moments later, the manager came over, without introducing his name, asked how he could help us. We basically told him the unpleasant experience we had and all he could say was "sorry, she is new and in training. I'm sorry that you had a bad experience." That was the end of it. The manager never came back to check up on us, or even asked us how everything was, or anything. <br/><br/>I did not expect a 5-star service at a Cheesecake restaurant, but I expected a certain standard, and I apologize if my standards are "too high," but is it not standard to place cutlery on top of napkins on the table? As well, should the cutlery not be placed in front of the customer, as opposed to dropping the cutlery on the table in a batch like they've just been grabbed from the dishwasher (still wet) and leave on the table without napkins? The forks weren't even placed in front of us. And whether a newly trained staff or experienced staff is working or not, a smile and some form of expression from a "server" could really enhance a customer's experience, but we did not get any of that tonight. This whole experience ruined our mood and left us very upset. And to top things off, the manager did not seem genuine in listening to what we had to say. He just made excuses, told us we could leave a comment in the comment book or contact the email found through their website. In the end, he didn't even come back to check up on us. <br/><br/>Any employee's lack of effort or training in customer service is the responsibility of the management team, and I was quite disappointed to hear the manager say that it's because that "server was new." Overall, a place I used to really enjoy coming to with family and friends left me feeling very upset. My husband and I will not be returning to their restaurant as we do not support terrible customer service and poor standards.

Dark. horrible service. and cheesecake without the graham cracker crust. and it's expensive and the location sucks. never going back.

Disappointments. Used to come here more often but this will be my last visit; the cheesecakes were awesome back then (6-8 yrs ago), 1 piece to eat in and 1 whole to take home, even last year i was there the place is packed with people but their cheesecake wasn't as great anymore. Used to be harder in texture and taste great, I just had one today, the cheesecake was so fluffy that it tasted like whipped cream rather cheesecake. What surprised me was when the ladies ordered hot water, they came with a piece of lemon and a jar of honey, in which they charge $1.25 a cup.<br/><br/>I believe come back customers are only here for name or fame and disregard about the actual taste of these so called desserts.

A Joke. I work in the industry. This place was a horrible joke of an establishment. The space and concept have so much potential, however the owners clearly do not give a damn about the place. Perhaps it is a front for a drug lord? That is the only explanation I can think of. The place was dark and stuffy and the music put me to sleep. Our waitress was not the most friendly and she made us feel bad for sitting at a dirty table - hard to not, though, since every table in the mostly empty restaurant was dirty. The menu was short and sweet and I figured we could find something edible to enjoy. Unfortunately, the cheesecake is barely more than a wedge of gelatinous mush with an overly sweet flavour. There was no evidence that any actual cream cheese was used to make this cheesecake, let alone love. It was like a "dessert" (Think Banana cream pie made only from whipped cream) that you would receive at the fair to through into a clowns face - never would it be intended for actual consumption. AND! Consider this - cheesecake with no crust! Ah the horror. AND! Consider this! The kicker! No liqour. The surly waitress even said she thought they had a license but do not have any booz still. The ONE thing that could have made this extremely dissapointing dinner date better would have been a big glass of wine, heck, it was so bad a few shots of Jack Daniels would have lessened the pain. But alas, no booz, no good food, no good service.... barely worth writing about but it is fun to vent sometime! Someone please, buy the spot, offer booz, live music, and good food! It would do very well.... but until then... stay away. Take it from someone who knows their restaurants!

Cheesecake in darkness. I used to luv coming to this dessert place for the best cheesecake in the city. used to come here alot when i was in highschool...not so much now. great place to hang with the girls for a slice. and since it's nice and dim inside, a perfect romantic dessert spot as well.

Just got back from there and have a few complaints about the drinks, food and service.<br/>Both of our cappucinos were cold, how does that happen?<br/>Chocolate cheesecake had no chocolate taste. Really dissapointing. <br/>Whipped cream tasted like nothing. Was hoping it was going to taste good because the cake didn't.<br/>Waitress put her fingers on the inside (on the side were the water is poured out) of the full water pitcher to carry it. The pitcher had a handle to carry it!<br/><br/>Will not be going back there!

Don't get it... I am confused why this place received many positive feedbacks?<br/>The cheese cake is not what I hoped for.. the texture was nice, but it did not taste cheesy. Actually, it did not taste like anything at all except the strawberry toppings.<br/>The service was okay. There was a nice guy, but there was also a girl that was kind of rude. Our bill was about $21, when we gave the girl $25, she assumed we tipped her $4 and threw it all in the tip jar without even thinking that we wanted change. Disappointed. <br/>Won't be coming back.

Have been hearing much about the place, I expected a high-qualtity cheesecake from them. Instead, I got a plain average cheesecake which you can practically see in any store. The service is not great- they bring your bill on the table even when not asked and it has only been a half an hour since I came... I'm just surprised that they actually put the phrase "please don't forget to tip" on their bill. Oh, the last thing, the whole place smells very old and dusty like a run-down hotel..

These people dont know a quality cheesecake from a cheap, tasteless, fluffy air infused premade, previously frozen, junky pie. Betty Crocker sells better cake mix then the sh*t they are serving there.... Not only that the cake sucks but the hot apple cinnamon cider was like hot watered down horse p*ss and the orange juice was a watered down imitation of powdered tang. Once again...... Had a huge dump!<br/><br/><br/>-----04 Jun, 2012-----<br/><br/>The worst cheescakes ive ever had. Buying a cheese cake at the grocery store honestly tastes better. I have no idea why the rating is at 81% possitive because its horrible.

A lot of changes since the last time I've been there which was more than a year ago. As many of you have known, they have expanded the place. The quality of the cheesecakes have definitely gone down, very soft texture without the richness of the cheese taste. The ambience wasn't great at all, it felt like a bubble tea joint. You dont get that cozy feeling anymore. All in all, it was quite a disappointing experience for myself.

Creamy Cheescake. Since my last time to Cheesecake Etc, a lot has changed. Their space has expanded to more than twice the size and so has the menu (including daily specials). <br/>Occasionally the owner will come out and play the piano. Sometimes with accompaniments; it's always a treat to the ear. <br/>I'm still not a fan of the "dark romantic" atmosphere restaurant, but it's a trend with scientific studies to back the logistics so I can't do much about that. But given the lighting, it is difficult to take nice photos of your food. <br/><br/>Downside: They don't have a liquor license. Cheesecake and alcohol would go nicely together!

Busy for a Tuesday night at 11:30 pm. Service was very fast and there was live music. Cheesecakes were soft textured and mild in taste.

Good but worth the hype?. When i got there, there was a HUGE lineup of people, which made me wonder if this place is really worth all the hype.. I waited in line and got seated a while later. They don't have a lot of choices, which was surprising to me since this place specializes in Cheesecakes. <br/><br/>The cheesecake itself is okay; it's not out of this world amazing, yet it is still pretty good. Overall, i just wonder if this place is even worth the hype and waiting in line.

Ok for once in awhile treat. Romantic setting, cheese cake a bit on the sweet side, slow service

Good. Very nice I like it.

HORRIBLE service! Is that what it's known for? The servers where extremely RUDE and unattentive. Plus I don't see the hype about the place the cheesecake was good but wasn't worth the service. And the place smelled like mildew. I would be scared to see the place with the lights actually on... Who knows how clean it is! Definitel won't be going back.

Everyone said this place is good, so i went with some friends for a night out. It was difficult for us to find it. Also, its opening time is a little inconvenient. The environment is nice and warm inside. The food isn't that great and is NOT worth the price. There isn't a big variety to chose from and after ordering 2 drinks and 3 cheese cakes for a group of 4 to share (since it was so expensive) it still came out to a shocking price. There wasn't much extra service...but tips were expected... None of us walked out feeling satisfied; instead we all walked out feeling kind of ripped off. There are nicer places to chill with friends/loved ones which have better tasting food at a reasonable price.

Best fresh baguette, cheesecake, etc.... I've been going here for as long as I can remember... it's a wonderful, charming, quaint joint with tons of character and love. Really the best cheesecake and fresh baked baguette you could find. When the owner, Michael Sims, gets up to play the piano it's a real treat!! A must visit, one of my favourites!
Justin Chan
Horrible service it doesn't take half an hour to bring me a water and pull out a plate of already sliced cheesecake. That and parking is $1 for 40 minutes on the street. Prepare to throw $1 away just for the slow service.

Mmm mmm good =). Went there 2 nights ago and had their daily special.. the original cheesecake w/ tangerines and chocolate sauce. I liked how the combo was both sweet and a little tangy at the same time. I asked for just a glass of water but lemon and honey came with it.<br/><br/>Too bad the man playing the piano and what i think is the bass cello, weren't in. i've been going back there repeatedly and will continue to do so in the years to come.

Best cheesecake in Vancouver!. I love the texture of their cheesecake and the freshly made strawberry sauce. It's something to die for! Their original cheesecake is creamy enough, yet won't make you feel sick after eating. The strawberry sauce actually has strawberry chucks in it. Although it opens from 7 PM, it's a great place for some after dinner dessert. Even just catching up with friends - it provides great ambiance to do so. Maybe I'll find some other cheesecake places to top it. But for now, it's on my list for the best cheesecake in Vancouver.

Yummy!. Definitely one of my favourite dessert joints! I always order the Cheesecake with Strawberries and Extra Strawberries on the side! Their Cheesecake Trifle is awesome too but it's not always available.
Nour
Best Cheesecake Ever!. Wish they had one in Toronto. I ordered seconds. Light, fluffy and delicious. And great price. I disagree with the criticism about only one item. Yes they only really do one thing but they do it well. Don't mess with a good thing.

Misleading Name but Good Hours. Don't get me wrong their cheesecake is delicous and fluffy and decadent but they only essentially have TWO flavours: chocolate and vanilla. If they're going to call themselves Cheesecakes ETC they should have more flavours, or at least a greater variety of toppings and better specials. It's not really a special if you just combine things you already have. They already have the cheesecakes plated, so why don't they branch out and create some new and exotic cheesecake flavours and toppings - one's you can't find anywhere else in Vancouver?<br/><br/>Their hours are great though, being able to head over there for dessert after a show or movie is wonderful. A larger variety and creativity would make this a "I like it" instead of a "I don't like it."<br/><br/>If you want simple and traditional then this is your place, but I'm always underwhelmed.
Latte
Not a big fan of cheesecake but love theirs. It's not as dense and heavy. Lighter and not too rich. Their NY and their chocolate are both yummy!
Gotta Eat
Creamy cheese cake. The cheese cake here is alright, but I really don't know what the fuss is. They only have like 3 flavors, plain, strawberry and chocolate. The selling point is that their cheesecake is crustless, but I don't mind the crust anyways so for me, it was just alright.

Yum Yum. Good cheesecake, but like all cheesecakes it's pricey. It's worth a visit because it has a great atmosphere and some very delicious cheesecake. Although there isn't a wide variety of cheesecake to choose from, the authentic cheesecakes are all topped with a delicious layer of whip cream. If you want a nice place to meet with friends and catch up on some current events, or a simple dessert place after a grand dinner...Cheesecake Etc. is and ideal place!

This dessert place has been around for 35 years and being named cheesecake etc. I would hope that their cheesecakes would be near perfection.<br/><br/>Unfortunately that isn’t the case. There cheesecakes are not as good as I would expect them to be. Service also lacked friendliness and attentiveness. The cheesecakes aren’t that good.
Dennisthefoodie
It's dark and cheesy in here.
Picky Diner
When I walked in Cheesecake Etc, I was surprised it was no longer this tiny little cafe that I visited years ago. I also had forgotten what the cheesecake tasted like. <br/><br/>After I had a bite, I was shocked how light it was, not in a good way. It was like eating dense heavy cream or slightly melted ice cream but not cold. Had the cheesecake always been like this here? Did I actually like the cheesecake here? I only vaguely remembered that I didn’t dislike the cheesecake here. Apparently the recipes had not been changed for over 30 years. And the only explanation is, my palate of tasting has matured since, and this piece of cheesecake has become way off balance for me: taste wise and texture wise. However, I just decided to turn off the critiquing for a moment, so that I could enjoy some good time chatting and hanging out with 3 of my good friends. After all it is a great place for hangouts and romantic dates that do not require the best cheesecake in the city.

Ambiance here was really good. A good place for chit chatting with friends. Place was a little bit dark also. One word for the cheesecakes and tiramisu we ordered “HEAVEN”! That was super yummy. My personal favorite was the Chocolate cheesecake with peanut butter. As for the beverage it was good but nothing special. All I can remember was that we didn’t stop digging in on the sweets until the plate was totally empty haha ^_^ Price was a little bit expensive. But trust me it will be worth it.
Hungry In Vancouver
I have been going to Cheesecake Etc for delicious homemade cheesecake since my teenage years. They have been open for over 30 years on South Granville Street in Vancouver, just at the end of the bridge as you leave Downtown Vancouver. The cheesecake is very light and whipped and is distinct because it has no crust. It is owned by a husband and wife inspired by Parisian cafes and jazz music. There is a piano in the middle of the restaurant and I believe they feature live music on Saturdays. Their hours of operation are daily from 7pm-1am except for some holidays.  A classic, strawberry cheesecake. My husband enjoyed it with a glass of raspberry iced tea.   I am a huge peanut butter fan so I tried their chocolate cheesecake with house made peanut butter sauce. The chocolate cheesecake is also light and goes so nicely with the peanut butter cream. The whipped cream is not overly sweet. I didn't think I could eat the whole piece after the way I stuffed myself at dinner...but I was wrong. I

It’s been a while since my first visit in 2003. Since then, the one location has taken over its neighbours and now stands three shops wide. Even with the increase in real estate, it retains its original feel. A certain ambiance I still remember from so long ago. Closely arranged, cramped tight tables and chairs; loud chatter and sitting in the candlelit darkness of causal space. Although open from one room to another and joined through the sharing of one common washroom, each space kept a bit of its original decor. The room on the right was best lit. Perfect for those, like me, who want to see their food before they eat it. It possessed a cafe feel with tiled floors, large painted canvases in various pastels, and several ceiling fans spinning at a whirl. The middle, the original location, was dark with dim lighting and romantic with the flickering of candles in lengthy red hurricane glasses. Its spacious booth seating and tucked away corners made for the preferred setting when consider

This cheesecake lacked body and substance. It was fluffy rather than creamy. There was no aroma of cream cheese at all. I thought I was eating thick whip the entire time. It didn’t help that their ‘gourmet’ topping didn’t blend well with their cheesecake. The pears was overly sweet (sugar syrup) and their chocolate topping was chocolate syrup from squeeze bottles. The last time we came here, they actually had melted dark chocolate on top. The quality of the cheesecakes really went downhill from a year ago. It wasn’t worth the money this time round.<br/><br/>The atmosphere was okay. I like the romantic-ness, because it was candle-lit. And due to their lack

I’d definitely come back for their amazing cheesecake.

We arrived at the restaurant slightly before midnight. It was really full and busy. Last time we came around the same time, the lineup deterred us and we left. This time, we stuck around, and glad that we did since the wait was barely 5 minutes. It’s very moody inside, dimly lit with candles on each table. The cafe is quite large, with lots of seating area. Customers are – mostly Asians, with a lot of young Korean and Japanese couples or girlfriends. I ordered the original with strawberry and lemonade. I was really surprised – I love the cheesecake!!! It was SO GOOD! It had the right sweetness and the lemonade is refreshing from the creaminess from the cheesecake, as well as from the weather  on a summer night out. The portion is also perfect. Mmmmm cheesecake, fruits and whip cream! You can’t ask for anything better I am usually not a cake person, but this is a must try! It makes sense why this place is so popular! What’s even more interesting is that it’s open till 1am, and many come

After we finished our dinner we decided to skip the dessert at Salade De Fruits Café and try out the nearby cheesecake place Cheesecake etc. Even though I was full and I didn’t really like cheese cake, I made an exception for this place.
