Review Cannibal Cafe - Vancouver

Barb Agostini
Went to Cannibal Cafe on Saturday evening. We got a table right away and our server was really friendly. Cool atmosphere with Vancouver music event posters from the past posted on all the walls. Menu didn’t have a lot of options outside of burgers on a few appies and sides. My burger was delicious and everyone I was with enjoyed there’s too. A bit on the pricey side - $18 for my burger (no fries or anything with it), but other than that, a good spot that I’d go back to.

Bacon burger with bacon jam and garlic aioli was amazing! Chicken breast burger contained sweet and sour slaw which was too sour for me, I think I would prefer a classic creamy slaw to balance the heat next time. It’s great you can order the level of spice for the fried chicken. We also had fried pickle spears … take the server’s advice and cut before eating … the pickle stays super hot inside!

WAAY too much oil / grease... 🍔🍟🧅 I came for dineout with friends to try it put because there's onion rings on their menu. I was excited to get the onion rings and a burger combo just as my friends but we were all rendered disappointed at the end of the meal...🥲 Everything fried were DRIPPING in oils, especially the onion rings. Not only were they extremely oily, they also had no extra flavour from the batter. The only flavour came from the dipping sauce (which is really necessary to make the onion rings go from sub-par to quite mediocre. I swear I've had better onion rings for same price at fast food places! The burger on the menu (the american) was also quite mediocre. Gonna give it 0.5 bonus stars for the very friendly and helpful server. Other than that, I wouldn't come back again.

It was okkkk No milkshake or ice cream machines and no indication as to when/if they will have these machines back. The service was great, very attentive and friendly but either the heat wasn’t working or there is no heat so we never even took off our jackets. The water the in bathroom ran cold and there was little to no hand soap. The happy hour items are a good deal. We were disappointed in the fries. They weren’t hot or super crisp. The burger flavour was ok. I’m curious of their chicken since I’m not interested in the burgers we got. Was definitely a different experience compared to when I went a few years ago ☹️ I do thank you though 🙂

First time trying out this place and decided to try the smoke show burger, it was so good I was thinking of getting a second one. Will have to comeback to try the rest of the menu and some beer. Service was good and friendly.

Service great, omg we ordered the best hamburgers in the menu, some Chicken Wings, Cannibal Fries, Bacon Bad and The Smoked Show Burgers. We will be back for more so Delicious, I hardly recommend

Hamburger was good and the cannibal fries was Super good!!! Our waitress was really nice. Also, they do check vaccine card and ID 👍

Food is delicious, everything was fresh and hot with tons of flavour. Loved the blue cheese burger, would highly recommend for burgers. I'll go back to try other items.

I was in yesterday for my birthday. Ordered appys onion rings and fried pickles. They were good. Got the jerk burger with yam fries. The yam fries were decent but shoulda been salted after frying (I tasted none) The jerk burger wasn't that great. The flavor of the whole burger was weird. The appys and drinks will make me try yall again but maybe not a burger The red papper mayo is bomb tho!

Cannibal Cafe is my favourite go-to burger joint on Commercial Drive, hands down. I discovered this place almost two years ago by accident, and have been coming back ever since. I'm a huge fan of their Big Blue, and the real blue cheese they use in their burger to give it the 'stink' it so deserves, which makes it all the more tastier. While others say their burgers lack taste, I feel they are juicy and seasoned quite well. I've never had any problems with their burgers or other food items. The decor is a nice mix of wood, stainless steel, and...checkered tile flooring! Kind of a blend of a modern restaurant with a retro feel. They even have all these old posters of local events from years and years ago, which can keep you occupied just from reading them. Their staff is very attentive, and I always get asked if I need a top up of my bevy, ensuring my glass is never empty. Seldom do I find a place in this price range that offers this kind of attention, but these guys do.

The food was ok(not worth the money I paid even with a groupon) the music was to loud to hear oneself think. Didn't care to hear the four letter language emitting from the person yelling two booths away. Will go back only at gun point and maybe not even then.
Rachel Stout
Great food, great people, great vibes, my fave burger joint on the drive
Danny Charles
The best burger I've ever had!! This place blows in-n-out out of the water!! Im from california so i know my burgers.
Gabrielle Lamoureux
Cannibal Cafe's the kind of place that lets you order onion rings at the last possible minute then does a zoolander impression when the night is out. They are heroes, and the food is straight delicious.
Derek Chu
It was my first time here, came for my birthday burger, so I had the Bacon Bad. Great service and a tasty burger, I'll be back!
Irena O'Reilly
food was tasteless, onions rings were to greasy and burned fries were given like they were at the bottom of the bowl burgers were over cooked and no taste to them no seasoning what so ever.
Heather Angel
I had a Jr. American burger with salad. The bun is brioche which is great the meat is really tasty . Had a salad as my side , huge but not liking the dressing. Over all great value & very tasty .

One of the most original Burger Joints in Vancouver! Great staff, awesome atmosphere. Their Onion Rings are like nothing I've tried before, so deliciously crisp and battered to golden perfection.
Przemek Kotowski
The best service in the whole Lower Mainland! Good is great, but service is really exceptional.
Lori Fossum
The food and the atmosphere are so great. I love the burgers and checking out all the old posters. I found this place when I did a Google search for best Vancouver burgers. They delivered!
Shane Caveberry
The Cannibal Benny was the best Benny I think I have ever had. The fried battered Onion stayed crunchy even while covered in hollandaise and pulled pork. The potatoes were crispy and the salad perfectly dressed. Keep it up.
Melonie Phillips
Cozy place with an upbeat atmosphere. Burger, beer & onion rings were a tasty experience!
Julia Fullerton
Amazing burgers and a great atmosphere! The playlist was as awesome as the beer choices! Can't wait to go back 👌
Chad Anthony
Unbelievable hamburger every time im in vancouver this is a must stop
Chelsea Goodman
Great burgers, booze and service. I recommend everyone to go. =)

Someone at the restaurant didn't like that I was taking a picture of the front of it and assumed I was taking pictures of them, if this was the owner they have a really bad way of approaching customers and basically lost one, sorry but that was very rude to assume....I would like to get an apology because that was intolerable
Irma Reid
My Son did The Beast challenge and he lost....said if he had more time he could do it! Only the onions (which he hates) and 2 and 1/2 patties left.....so close! I picked away at the burger when he finished and the most amazing burger patty I've ever had! Yum!
Wes Gram
i tried the cannibal fries .. so good fast service and great food and that cannibal sauce ... so good
Valerie Knowles
The service was amazing and the atmosphere was so happy/ The food was very good at reasonable prices.

The Cannibal Café's probably my favourite restaurant—not just on The Drive, but anywhere. The food's great, the atmosphere's wonderful (I especially love the old gig posters), and the workers are friendly and attentive!
Ashley Elizabeth
The service was just ok but the food more then made up for it. Deep fried pickles are amazing & the veggie burger was really good!!
Jenny Katz Slater
Great burger - interesting people - dark and small inside but very different.......they tried to make you buy a cocktail which was really annoying!
Stu Clifton
The food and service was fantastic! Coming from Seattle I don't typically expect burgers elsewhere to compare. I was mistaken! Dominique is amazing!
Brennan Brosseau
Perfectly cooked burgers, huge milkshakes, helpful attentive staff and a great value.
Justine Bouma
My hubby, and a couple coworkers came to conquer the beast challenge, along with a few others. My hubby and his coworker managed to eat the BEaSt!!!! Woohoo. I had the Farmhouse burger with the salad, the salad was sooooo freaking delicious. I know some of you are thinking...it's a salad...but this salad was OMG and my burger was very tasty and pretty large. Lots of good alcohol as well :)
Sherri Jo Caudill
Fabulous burger creations. Cannibal fries to die for!
Cole LP
This was our second time there. The service was amazing and the burgers were delicious.
David T. A. Warren
Intense burgers, good onion rings, good service and vibe. Bit pricier at first look but they certainly give you a lot for the money. Would be nice to have some more appetizer options tho which weren't also the sides for the burgers..

First time the wife and I had been , seen on you got to eat here..And you got to eat here it's awesome
Michael Friesen
My wife saw this location on TV and we decided to go out and try it. I considered their largest burger but decided I wasn’t hungry enough to finish it and went with a double bacon cheese burger. The greeter/server was a friendly and knowledgeable person and gave excellent recommendations regarding their menu. The food was great and I really enjoyed their fries. The only mark against was the individual manning the cooking station was observed by my wife handling raw meat and instead of washing his hands he simply wiped his hands on his towel and continue handling other food.

Have you ever wanted to enjoy a burger with a side of punk rock? If so; this is the place for you. Located on Commercial Drive, this restaurant is literally named after a song by the punk band SNFU. It was also featured on You Gotta Eat Here! in season 5.

The vibe is a whole ton of fun and the edginess of the restaurant adds so much to the entire experience. The servers are all very friendly and covered in piercings and tattoos. My favourite thing are the hundreds of Vancouver gig posters wallpapering every inch of the walls. I found myself reading as many of them as I could see! I visited on a Saturday evening and our accommodating server seated us near the back of the restaurant (a perfect area to take in the scene of the whole place).

I'd heard that their shakes were pretty good, so I started there. Their Boozy Shakes sounded especially fun! I picked the Black Forest Shake (Chocolate ice cream, milk, fudge, 2oz Cherry Bourbon, topped with whipped cream and chocolate drizzle - $11.95) because I was obviously there on serious business. This is a great item to order if you want to have dessert before dinner and you also want for there to be booze involved. This was a pretty good milkshake and it captured the elements of a black forest cake quite well. Creamy, sweet, with a hit of bourbon. (But I have to say, the best boozy shake out there is still The Legendary Shake at Save On Meats.)

Cannibal takes a lot of pride in their beef - which is a desirable thing to see in a burger-centric joint. Their beef is certified organic from BC, so it doesn't get more fresh and local than that. Of course I was going to order one of the Cannibal Specialty Burgers and it had to be the Big Blue (Blue cheese stuffed patty, a crispy onion ring, more blue cheese, horseradish chive mayo, L.T.O.P - $14.95). I also ordered Hand-Cut Fries ($2.95) on the side. As a lover of blue cheese, this burger seemed like a majorly obvious choice. This burg was solid. I liked the patty because it tasted very fresh and was very clearly homemade. I especially liked that there was still a hint of pink inside and that it hadn't been cooked into oblivion. I did, however, find the patty to be a little bit dense and I couldn't really find the blue cheese inside. Luckily, the blue cheese on top was much more prevalent and added the funk that I craved. The onion ring was perfectly battered and fried, it added a great crunch. I liked the bun because it was buttery and had a nice bite to it. The pickle was delicious. This burger was very messy!!!

The fries were good! They were cooked to a perfect golden and the seasoning on them was delicious.

Maybe not the best burger that I've had in my entire life, but definitely a very decent one made with good ingredients.

The overall experience at Cannibal Café was a good one. It's a really cool restaurant with a fun atmosphere. The prices seemed a little bit high (especially with no sides being included with the burgers) and the food could've been a little bit more exciting. They serve a weekend bunch that I will certainly return to try.

This is a casual joint on the Drive that's best known for serving up gourmet burgers. I went there for my birthday as they give you a complimentary American Classic Burger (if you have your ID with you) with the purchase of either a drink or a side. I decided to get a side of Onion Rings to go with my burger as well as an Oreo Milkshake. The burger was quite tasty; the onion rings and the milkshake were fantastic. While I got a good deal since the burger came free, I do find their regular prices to be a tad pricy: most of their burgers are currently going to $13-15 without any sides. In terms of service, the waitress I had was very friendly; however, I do feel that they appear to be somewhat understaffed: there was only one person in the kitchen when I went, and some of the tables did take a while to receive their food. All in all, I did quite like this place, and I think it's definitely worth checking out for some classic American fast food.
American Classic Burger (Free on birthday, normally $10.95):
3.5/5
This consisted of two 3oz patties, American Cheese, ketchup, mustard, mayo and L.T.O.P. (lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle). This was a simple, basic burger that was done quite well. I normally don't like beef patties, which can often be dry, but here the beef was actually reasonably moist and juicy. The bun was toasted, and crispy around the edges while soft and fluffy in the interior. The cheese and condiments provided great flavour. Although the burger was not very large, it was quite tall and I actually couldn't fit it into my mouth (insert dirty joke here): I had to remove some of the vegetables in order to eat the burger.

Onion Rings (Side, $4.95):
4.5/5
I loved these. The batter on the onion rings looked thick, but was incredibly light and crispy, and stayed crispy even when they cooled. It was served with a side of Chipotle Mayo, which was creamy and had a nice bit of spice. I was a bit disappointed with the portion: there were only 6 onion rings present.

Oreo Milkshake ($7.95):
4/5
I have to admit, I have to admit that I was a bit disappointed the milkshake didn't contain any crushed cookie bits. It was still very tasty however, with a great chocolate and vanilla flavour. It was quite thick, and you have to wait to allow it to melt a bit before being able to suck it through the straw.

Delicious burgers and poutine. I was too busy chatting and totally forgot about taking pictures....overall, good food, good ambience and good service.

Was here for Dine Out- no regrets. Never once set foot in Cannibal even after living in the neighbourhood since a child. Glad I finally did! Food is homey- looks pretty unassuming but is such good comfort food. Has East Van character- one of my friends who came to dinner HATED it which only made me love this place more. Old concert posters plastered all over the walls, happy tattooed and pierced servers, loud loud loud! My kind of place. Defs a place worth popping into and checking out, even if only once.

Always a favourite to visit. The burgers are great, but we actually love brunch the most. Their eggs benedict is generously portioned and well balanced with the salad on the side. The value for your money is insane. Makes getting a drink with your meal almost guilt-free.

The burgers were amazing...i thought mine was good till i tried my GF’s tuna burger. It was even better. The service is great Andre the music totally rocked.
Only room for improvement would be a bigger dessert menu but there are also lots of other dessert places on the drive.

We moved out of E. Van a few years ago and I miss Cannibal Cafe the most. One of the best burgers in the city. Staff is great and always welcoming.
Darren
pretty good burgers. been here twice. nothing i had is going to cure cancer but pretty solid lunch.
if i wanted a burger on the drive i'm coming here

Ordered myself the veggie burger with yam fries. As soon as it arrived, my mouth was gaping wide open due to the size of the burger! It was definitely massive! I hurriedly wanted to take a bite! The yam fries were crisp and lightly salted and the side of aioli dip complimented the fries perfectly well. As for the burger, it wasn't that great. The veggie patty was crispy on the sides but quite soggy in the middle so the burger came apart quite fast. Other than that downside, I wish the place included sides (fries, salads, etc.) with their burger. The burgers are quite pricey as it is. My burger alone was a whopping $12.95 and the "sides" you choose is an additional price. The yam fries was an additional $3.95. Portion size is great but quality of food is a "meh" for me.

No complaints about my turkey burger (The Farmhouse) - cranberry + turkey genius. M’s American Classic with yam fries in the background. P got the American Classic as well, with a side of poutine, and the poutine could’ve been a full entrée by itself. Maybe he got this because he’s from Montreal?

The food is incredible, the atmosphere is fun, and the staff went above and beyond, as we chatted the night away; They offered us a warmer place to sit as we'd decided we could deal with being near the door (which always opens due to the popularity;) and then offered us tea and hot water with lemon.. which kind of seemed a little opposite to the vibe that the servers give off, given the tattoos and then the rock and roll music playing. But it really speaks to their attitude and interest in seeing the guests enjoy themselves. That food though. I had a burger with blue cheese, it was perfect; my friend had the Vietnam burger and found it had fun and surprisingly complimentary flavours. kudos guys.

Welcome to my blog where I share my opinions on being an adult and post my reviews of stuff I buy and things I eat. Feb 13 BIRRY EATS: Quick Look at The Cannibal Cafe. Location: The Cannibal Cafe - 1818 Commercial Dr, Vancouver, BC. Meal: The Steve Martin Jerk Burger - somewhat disturbing it's named after someone at the "Cannibal" Cafe. One glass of beer (pitcher of beer on special was $16.00).

Update: December 2017
I came in for my free birthday burger. I love a free meal!

I had a last minute errand around the area. I was told there was another cannibal cafe location around this area. I had such a great experience last time down town that I had a craving to try it again, and thankfully it's consistent. The service is excellent here and very friendly. Their burgers are juicy and delicious. I had a fantastic fast meal. I'd love to come again and I recommend others to try it.

My favorite is the big blue cheese burger. It has the crispy onion ring in it. Management did a great job here. All the servers are so friendly and professional. I love this location

Pretty decent burgers - but the real winner here is the taco salad. Omg if you like taco salads do yourself a favour and go here. My husband enjoys the carnival burger (it's pretty enormous!) and I like the blue cheese burger. The sides are all good except the macaroni which is just terrible.

We were greeted and seated promptly. We received small glasses of water. Once ordering we were asked if we wanted more then just the water, but we stuck to the waters. I ordered the 'minister of national deliciousness' burger and my husband ordered the 'la belle province' burger. I noticed frequently the cook put raw burgers on the grill, wipe his hands on his apron, and carry on his way in making the rest of the food as if what he was doing was ok. What's wrong with this? I will tell you whats wrong, the head cook didn't wash his hands, cross contamination and who knows the amount of bacteria on his apron. I saw the head cooks side kick wash his hands, so why can't the head rooster follow suit? Half way through eating I finished my water and the server couldn't be bothered to ask if we wanted more water. It wasn't til we were paying that she asked. I will not return because of the lack of food safe practices being performed here.

The Cannibal Cafe’s been on my list of places to visit on The Drive for a while… mainly for the thick milkshakes that I’ve heard about. The walls of Cannibal Cafe are wallpapered with old flyers and adverts and lends to the diner-style vibe of the place. I had mentioned milkshakes… I ordered the Strawberry Milkshake ($6.49) which arrived in the stainless steel cup. I wish it actually came in a large glass cup with the excess in the stainless steel cup (like they do at many other diners) because it would have made for a better picture. I did enjoy the thick shake however.
TheHappySloths
Tried the Minister of National Deliciousness (tandoori chicken burger) and found it pretty disappointing (especially for $15 without a side). The butter chicken flavoring was there but the burger desperately needed salt. The patty also didn't have enough texture, even paired with the crispy onion bits.
The fries here, however, are amazing! Super crisp on the outside, soft and meaty on the inside.
Great service, very friendly staff.
Michael Townsend
To be fair I am rating this place in the middle, I have been going here over the past few years since it opened. Sometimes it's good and other times it's disappointing. More often then not they can be snobby and not good give good service , The burgers are usually pretty good and they have really awesome sides, before I was tipping like 20 percent on take out order@ and yet your snobby and unfriendly. We took food to go last night and I told my friend not to tip her because she did nothing to deserve a tip, a smile and nice can easily give you 5.00, I am server and I just don't understand al it's everywhere you go in this city , the servers are rude , enough you want a tip then move your butt and earn it

This is the place to come for a good burger. Not the cheapest place, but solid food. Always have great service here too. Love the stuffed jalapeños... So delicious! The monthly burgers are quite often tasty as well!
EatingIsMyJob
Best milkshake on this side of town, very chocolatey without even being a malt. Must be the quality of ice cream lol

Also had their Mac and cheese, their lunch specials are terrific.

Clean washrooms.
Simon
After our large-party slow-burger disaster last time at The Cannibal Café, management invited us back for a re-do. Only 8 persons from our original party could make it this time, but for the persons who showed up, The Cannibal Café let us have our food (but not alcoholic drinks) free. Honestly, I thought we'd just all get a free burger, so some of us went ahead and ordered an appy to share. But holy moly, they gave those to use for free as well.
Brewji
Well, folks, here it is. The best beef burger I've had in the city! Well, best beef burger I've had, period.

Why? They use the highest quality ground beef with 3 different cuts of organic beef. Their toppings aren't taken lightly, as they're layered plentifully on the burger. The quality of their toppings is also incredible; from the bacon jam on my girlfriends "Bacon Bad" to the provolone and pepperoni on my Kowabunga...just writing this is making me hungry again.

Oh, almost forgot! Their onion rings! They're soft, battered like fish and chips and just the best things you'll have as an appy! They're the size of Safeway cake donuts, and the red pepper Mayo...my girlfriend scraped that out of the bowl it was so good.

Go to Cannibal! You won't be disappointed.

Update: Folks, even their brunch menu is on point. Do it!!!
Simon
The Cannibal Café is diner style long-and-narrow place with a single very long 12-seater communal table in the back. 7pm reservation for a large party, so naturally we can't expect plating the entire table to be easy. *Some* food hit the table early and so maybe 1/3rd of the table finished their burgers first. At around 8:25 pm I got my burger in the second wave of orders -- OVER 1 HOUR LATER. Can't remember when the final orders reached the remainder of our party, but it was quite a while.
DanoRama
This place definitely deserves to be on the best burger list in Vancouver. The burgers here are easily two times better than the next best burger in this city. Insane flavors from their paddies and I love the choice of temperature. Is that even legal!? Who cares!
Syd
Good burger joint. Best veggie burger in the city perhaps, definitely up there. They offer every type of burger you could imagine. The sides were just ok.

Wow I knew going in the service was bad, but the food has always been excellent. I've eaten there enough to know that take out is the way to go, but this last time, unbelievable. I ordered online as I usually do, picked it up, manager forgot to charge me. I reminded her and also tipped. I'm so honest. Drove 10 mins home. Opened my container,, wrong food. Tried calling as I'm driving back there in a huff, nothing but voicemail. After I arrive she gave me the right bag, but it was obviously cold. I asked to have the fries warmed up at least. Got it home again. This time it looked right. Took a big bite, and looked, rare. Bloody rare. Not medium rare. Rare. Barely browned on the outside. So mad. I just opened it and threw the patties in a frypan to cook to med well. Oh what's this? Forgot the extra pattie too. Geez. 3 strikes your out cannibal cafe. Get ready for a visit from Vancouver Coastal Health.

I got drunk and ate some food. I went in on a Friday after work for a beer (or two). My husband ended up stopping in so we ordered some food.
I got the blue cheese burger.
It was good. The patty was cooked the way I asked. The bun was fresh. The toppings were plentiful.
My only complaint is that the burger is thin and tall so it's a bit hard to eat without the butter and grease dripping down your elbows.

My husband got the junior classic. He said the flavour was good and the size was good too. He also got a strawberry milkshake. It was yummy, thick and made with good classic ingredients.

We both got a side of fries and they were OK. Most of the fries are in little bits so you need to use a fork to eat them with gravy (the gravy was average).

Overall we were happy with out meal and will definitely return.

I love that our beer is better and stronger than American beer. I love that we have Pizza Pops while all the States have are Pizza Pockets . And I love that we voted someone like Rob Ford into office. But the one thing I don’t like about being Canadian – the one thing that makes me super, super, super sad for myself and all the other Canadians out there – is that we can’t order a medium rare burger at the majority of our restaurants. This is upsetting. This is why I’ve been slowly making a list of all the restaurants in Vancouver that grind their own meat and will cook a burger to order. And I’ve slowly been eating my way through that list.

What a great spot! We really enjoyed our brunch here. Something for everyone our group of 6 adults and 1 toddler all found something tasty to eat. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The service was fast and the food itself all was really delicious and came out hot. The menu had lots of variety and a wide array of burgers which is what they are known for. I would totally recommend this place and look forward to checking out their dinner menu. The rooms itself was comfy with booths, high tops and tables with a seating up at the bar. Overall a great spot!

Food and Service. The burgers are good, ground beef can be ordered as you like it cooked. The waitresses are quick to tend to the table's needs, HOWEVER the wait for food to come out of the kitchen is borderline unbelievable; 50 mins+ for a burger and Mac&Cheese. This was also the case 4 mos ago; funny thing is we overheard a lady stating to the waitress that she had been waiting over an hour for her food, clearly upset. Busy or not food delivery is painful.

Fun place Stopped in in a.... Fun place

Stopped in in a whim and had a burger and a couple of beer. Great service, excellent burger and a decent low rent decor. I have had a lot of burgers in many places across North America and this one held its own.
It was interesting to read some if the other reviews. Seriously though if you don't like loud music why would you go to a place with a punk rock motif?
It is a nice little place with very good burgers a decent selection of beer on tap and a background soundtrack of punk and heavy rock. I thoroughly enjoyed myself.
Harold Cecchetti
Great restaurant with the regular menu (awesome beer selection), but would not go back for dine out.. Had a really good, but pretty small portobello burger. Something's gotta be done about the appies cause they were either minuscule portions of salmon cakes or really salty poutine.
Elly
I don't know if the Dine Out Vancouver menu is reflective of the restaurant's usual food, but I found most of the offerings incredibly bland. The poutine was salty and the cheese not melt, the mushroom burger had no kick. Whatever promised aoili was just a plain old mayo. The donut sundae saw the donut cut in half and fried again. No cinnamon/sugar or glaze either so it was savoury with the ice cream.
Having seen the prices on the regular menu in addition to the mediocre food, I will not be back. I will add that the service was decent and efficient. But at a restaurant that's not really enough.
Surfandturf69
I used to love coming here, the build your own burger was a great deal and everything always tasted great. Service was always a bit of an issue but the long waits were usually worth it.

This past weekend I went here for lunch with some friends, immediately I noticed the burgers were now served a la carte(they used to come with a basket of fries & salad). I ordered the blue cheese burger (about $15 with tax), it arrived cold after about half an hour (the restaurant had about 4 other tables with customers at the time so this was pretty ridiculous). On top of the long wait and bad service our server also completely forgot my friends milkshake.

It's sad to see a restaurant completely change up their format and I can confidently say I won't be coming back for a $18-$20 burger and fries anytime soon.

What gives? You used to be cool Cannibal Cafe.
Brittneyhogie
Went with a groupon and it was the beat burger ever! Atmosphere was awesome very cool and the staff very friendly. Love it here!

Surprise! Surprised!. I usually don't bother posting reviews online in regards to places I have eaten, and in fact, I was hesitant to share my thoughts after but one visit to The Cannibal Cafe, even though it was a lot more than I had expected. So, I returned for a second visit, this time I brought a friend, who "loves" burgers, even more than me. I have to say, pretty cool burger joint! Burgers aside, the decor and music provide an unlikely match as far as conventional burger places go. Rock posters from the 80's and 90's adorn the walls, a fitting backdrop to the classic alternative tunes. On to the food. A fairly straight ahead approach, but there's enough there to keep you coming back. My first visit, i went with the American burger...delicious, and I didn't have to wait forever either. The second time, I went with the Turkey burger, also delicious, my friend had the Big Blue, at least I think that's what it was called, huge. He gave it 2 thumbs up, and said he would be back. Consistency is big for me, and the service was fast and friendly. I guess if you're looking for a cool spot to have a beer and a burger in east Van, this would be the place...

Worst restaraunt experience ever. Cold food, flat drinks and the manager thought it was funny to loudly say "thank you, hope you never come back." as we were leaving. Usually when a customer complains to a manager about service, making his fiancè cry isn't the most professional way to go about the situation. I get it, you have a burger joint on Commercial Drive, you think your $@!& don't stink. Let me tell ya though... Your food does.

Not a lot comes to mind when someone asks me of somewhere good to eat on the Drive, but I'll definetly tell them where not to go.

Posers. I decided to give this place a shot and ordered the turkey burger. What a dry thanksgiving dinner mess, greasy ass bun and that cranberry sauce just plain sucks. The fries where good, but the spring mix salad covered in just oil not so. This all would have been ok if it weren't for the price of the bill. So come rock out at the Cannibal Cafe for over priced burgers and watch the game... nothing punk or authentic here..

Good Burger!. Went for lunch during the week. Friendly server. Had the standard burger with the double 3oz patties and no extra toppings since I wanted to get the true taste. Burger was juicy and very flavourful. Fries not greasy. I will be coming back to this place.

Nothing special. It's just an overpriced cafe with rock decor. So what? The whole rock'n roll theme is pretty common in Vancouver because of places like the Warehouse. Ho-hum - who cares? This place isn't anything new and the prices just aren't anything special. The food isn't great. Again, who cares? And it's all a gimmick on Commercial Drive with their theme restaurant/cafes now.
I'm attracted to good food and decent prices. I won't "buy in" to their themes, or good looking servers. That's another ploy. The oldest one.

I am pretty forgiving usually...,but seriously this was the worst lunch ever. First offm I think our server was high...she just talked and talked and talked....then after taking ten minutes to get our order straight, completely messed it up. We ate what she brought us, because we were so hungry, but could barely choke it down. The fries and poutine were ice cold, burger, completely unseasoned stale bun coated in grease, and a salad, dressed with nothing but oil. Worst lunch ever for 38$. Will never go back, and plan to tell everyone I know how awful it was.

Please Turn the Music Down!. Amazing burgers -- juicy and delicious. Milkshakes! Nice selection of beer and wines, and interesting tasty appies (although a bit overpriced). But the music is so incredibly obnoxiously loud, I doubt I will be back. It's a real shame cause I love the burgers -- but I couldn't even hear myself think, let alone talk to my partner. :-(

I really like this place, comfortable and friendly. Good music and a funky atmosphere. But the food is really the best part, the burgers are amazing! Good choices for anyone, fresh ingredients, and handmade quality. This might be the ultimate Commercial Drive vibe burger joint.

Food is good, service is fine but the music is obnoxiously loud

FINALLY!!. First time at Cannibal Cafe yesterday and I really enjoyed myself. Our server was super friendly and informative. The music was amazing and brought me back to my teens. The chocolate milkshake was creamy and delicious. The beer selection was nicely put together. The burgers were large and tasty. I had the Blue Cheese and my lady friend went for the Veggie Burger. It was her second favourite of all time only to the Truffle Pigs' beet burger in Field, BC.

Welcome to Commercial Drive guys. I'm very glad you exist.

Good place with good burgers. Service is also attentive and friendly. Like that they cook your burger to order. Both times i went there however, i asked for rare and it came back medium. It was still delicious anyway but hope next time theyre able to do it!

Best burger!!. I ordered the Korean BBQ burger and my boyfriend ordered a Big Blue burger.. Mine was super good and my bf said his was not bad but he liked mine better.. You can refill your soda drinks at no charge.. I also recommend their chocolate milkshake!! It was not very sweet but the taste was just perfectly right!!

Looking forward to my next visit!. This was one of the best burgers I have ever had. Incredibly fresh, great flavour and they have a small but good craft beer selection. My wife had the kimchi burger and we were both surprised at how tasty it was. I had the blue cheese and man, they did not skimp on the cheese! Fabulous. We're going again very soon.

I went with my boyfriend for a relaxed dinner and found the burgers to be delicious with excellent toppings. The salads were great as well. The music in the background was a great addition to the evening. We will definitely go back for delicious burgers and hand cut fries. The fresh wine on tap and the South African cider with a hint of caramel was excellent.

I went to The Cannibal Cafe enthusiastically to try out their Dine Out Vancouver menu and I left feeling very disappointed overall. I came to find out the cost of the hot water after the bill arrived. After reviewing the bill, I asked the waitress about the charge of the hot water...

Cannibal Cafe is located on Commercial Drive (between 2nd and 3rd) and is usually open until 10 pm. I personally love visiting new restaurants and coffee shops in and around Commercial Drive since it gives me a chance to get away from Downtown Vancouver’s pretentiousness, and to pay less for great quality food.
Veg Out Vancouver
It’s a small casual diner-style atmosphere, kid friendly, with the typical laid back Commercial drive crowd.

......really underwhelmed w this burger. Although the patty wasn't dry, it was definitely nowhere near as good as a Vera's or Fat Burger.

The name was questionable, and unfortunately not enough to keep us away. By it alone I wanted to visit, and after a peak at their menu online, I felt this was my kind of place. Burgers, deep fried sides, and drinks made with ice cream. The restaurant was easy to miss, with only their logo in white stencil-ed on their front glass. And their store front very similar to the one next to it. One of my guests even walked back and forth, past it four times. Their logo, a burger and crossbones sliced into with a oversized cleaver. I found it fun and worth immortalizing on film. I felt foolish making a reservation and when there were plenty of seats to be taken. The server never even checked my name off when she took me in. Though in my defence I have seen lines by this door, and yet now I wondered why. The bar was right up front, high tops stood in front of a row of beers on taps. The backdrop was two flat screens playing sports, sandwiching a well drawn on chalk board. On the board, coloured
Vancouver's Best Burger
When the burger was set down in front of me, it seemed to be sending me telepathic messages, pleading "Eat Me" and I was only too happy to oblige. First off let's get one thing straight here, this is a really good looking burg. It's the kind you almost feel bad destroying, but not really. As I got a hold of it and took my first bite I could have sworn I heard a water main burst in the back of the restaurant, until I saw the large puddle of burger juices overtaking my plate. It was right then that I realized how smart they were to keep both the salad and fries in containers which protect them from the rising tide. As for losing the burger beneath the waves, there was no chance I was putting it down before it was done, methodically devouring it bite by bite. The final moments were spent doing the last bite tango, where you try your best to maintain the form of the burg as it finally gives way, patty, bun and some remnant toppings all trying their best to slip from your grasp as you wrest

As the meat is ground in house, you have the option to have it done to your preference – I had mine done medium – In retrospect, I should have have it med well, as I didn’t really like the blood dripping in the bun. Overall, the burger was very good, perfectly cooked and well presented. Bottom line… sure, I’d go back here again !
Premeditated Gluttony
I know for some burger purist they would consider this creation sacrilegious, but then they can order a plain burger; I love both simple burgers and creative one like this one. All these ingredients work amazingly well together, presenting different textures and exciting flavours with each bite. I paired mine with a Guinness Draught beer, which completed this incredible meal.

The 6 ounce patty was very juicy and prepared medium as I ordered. I really liked the shoe string fries from Cannibal Cafe.

Step into a 60's rock 'n' roll diner at The Cannibal Cafe. We were welcome by a friendly waitress who told us we were welcome to sit wherever we like. So we wandered to the back of the restaurant. Very neat decore all over the walls. Totally hipster. We enjoyed the fact they were playing Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtles on TV. Haven't watched that in ages! This burger joint features a "Build Your Own Burger" and also have a wide selection in their House Specialty Burgers. For $13.95, there are choices of Montreal Smoked Meat, Vegetarian, Farmhouse Turkey, Local Salmon, and even Korean BBQ! However, this time we both opt for the classic burger. Build Your Own Burger : dill pickle, sliced fresh tomato, onion, iceberg lettuce, house ketchup, stone ground mustard, and mayonnaise ($9.95) You also have a choice of patty: Two 3oz Patties OR One 6oz Patty. I opt for the one 6oz patty, cooked at medium. The two 3oz patties are only cooked in medium-well. We found that the one 6oz patty was a little
