This is a small shop in the Granville Island Public Market specializing in sweet and savoury pies. During my visit there, I had their Key Lime Sliced Pie, Chocolate Individual Tart and Macadamia Nut Tart. I initially wanted their Coconut Cream Sliced Pie, but they apparently didn't have any ready yet. Not wanting to have to wait 1 hr, I decided to get their Pecan Sliced Pie. I quite enjoyed all of the treats. Price-wise, I do find the costs for most of their tarts to be quite steep; however, I think that their Macadamia Nut Tart to be reasonable since the nut's expensive, and they really load a lot of in the tart. Now, I should mention that I probably got undercharged during my visit: the guy at the till seemed to have trouble when he rung me up, and when I got my receipt, I noticed that he charged me $5.60 for everything, even though the prices on the board for their Pecan and Key Lime Pies were $7.15 and $7.52 respectively. And...I didn't go back and correct the mistake (I'm an awful person :(). All in all, I'm quite impressed by the food there, and I think it's definitely worth checking out if you are visiting the Public Market.
Chocolate Individual Tart ($5.60):
3.5/5
Although the shortbread looked a bit blond, it was quite tender , albeit very crumbly. The chocolate ganache was quite good, melted in my mouth, and had a nice bittersweet flavour. I do find there to be a bit too much crust vs. filling.
Macadamia Nut Tart ($5.60):
4.5/5
This was similar to a pecan tart, except with macadamia nuts. The crust was tender and flaky. It was filled chock-full of macadamia, which were fresh, crunchy and had a wonderful rich flavour, and was coated in a thick gooey sugar. This is the first time that I've had a macadamia tart, and I seriously wish people would use this nut more often, its freaking fantastic!
Pecan Sliced Pie ($5.60, listed as $7.15):
4/5
The crust once again was quite tender and flaky, although I did find the outer edge to be a bit too thick and overbaked. The filling was gooey and had a great caramel flavour, and a very generous amount of pecans. It was quite sweet - I personally didn't mind, but I think it might be a bit too much for others.
Key Lime Sliced Pie ($5.60, listed as $7.55):
4/5
The filling was smooth, creamy and sweet, with a texture that's similar too that of a cheesecake, while the breadcrumb crust cut easily had had a nice, slightly moist texture. I quite enjoyed the whipped cream as well, which seemed to have a slightly tangy flavour. I did find the filling to be lacking somewhat in lime flavour: I would have preferred there to be a bit more tang.
Summary:
Food: 4/5
Price: 3/5

Overall: 3.5/5
