Review The Stock Market - Vancouver

This placed smelled really good, so I had to try the Smoked Salmon Chowder. I would say it was pretty flavorful, but not stunning. The chowder was a little thin / watery, I would've liked it to be a thicker consistency. Also the potato to Salmon ratio is definitely leaning more heavily on the potato side. Overall, still decent, but probably wouldn't get that chowder again.

Husband and I were thirsty so we stumbled upon this shop. They offered freshly made Blueberry Lemonade and Black Currant Lemonade. Both flavors were unique and we had never seen it anywhere before. Opted for the Black Currant Lemonade and it was AMAZING! The perfect level of sweetness with no tart lemon bite. Very refreshing and we would definitely get it again. You can return the glass bottle to get back 25 cents, which we decided to do since I like to collect coins from other countries we travel to. Service was great, the gentlemen that assisted us were friendly. Next time we visit we’ll try other items on the menu!

Terribly weak soup. I got the broccoli and cheddar soup but it was all broccoli and absolutely no cheddar at all. I assumed it was a cream based soup as well but it just tasted like broccoli and boiled water. Avoid this place as much as possible. I went somewhere else (The Lobster Man) for a clam chowder and it was much better than this.

Always a nice selection of fresh soups available here in addition to the frozen & refrigerated items. I like the fact that they're not too salty. Served with focaccia bread & a spoon utensil. Just follow the ordering procedure and you will be fine. Next! 😂

We've had a few soups from here now and have found we need to add a lot of spices to flavour them up. The ingredients and texture are very nice, but overall most soups have been quite bland, especially considering the price point for a bag.

I've been coming here since I was a kid, and it is just as great now as it was then. The bread is always warm, the soup is always flavourful and filled right up to the brim of the container, and the selection they have is always interesting and delicious. I am generally partial to the seafood options, especially the salmon chowders! In my last few visits, they have had a red, salmon chowder with watercress, lime (I think?) and some other very fresh and light ingredients, and I am very impressed with it and think it's a wonderful spin on the traditional chowder flavours. I adore this place, and I'd definitely recommend it!

Great soup tucked into the Granville market! I tried the smoked salmon chowder and it is not to be missed. Other perks included free bread and a great selection of cold soups to go. I would recommend this as a quick stop at the market!

Usually have three soups to choose from. Decided to try the cock-a-leekie soup. Good flavour, ample chicken, vegetables and rice in the broth. Prices are reasonable. Good to have on a cold, wet, day. Worth a try if you are on Granville Island.

Feb 13th. They had three soups today. The cock-a-leekie, hot & sour, and red snapper fish chowder. Full of flavour. A full bodied soup, great on a cold day.

This place definitely hit the spot on a cold winter afternoon. It was nice to grab a cup of soup, sit at a window, and check out the scenery of Granville Island. The day I went they featured a vegetarian (pea), meat (chicken noodle), and fish (salmon). I was curious about the salmon but she told me if this was my first time trying the place, the salmon might not be the best choice. I tried a large cup of chicken noodle and it was quite hearty. The ingredients were definitely fresh. Would come back here again.

Black bean soup is my favourite

What happened to this place? My clam chowder (with wine and bacon) was brunt and watery. Originally thought the black crumbs were bacon, but nope, it was brunt ingredients! I don't mind them raising the price, but my $8.50 chowder lacked quality.

Delicious. The soup here is really good. I'm a veggie and every soup I've tried has been great. I go with a pal who has Crohn's and a very restrictive diet - he can't have any crap or preservatives or a whole list of ingredients - and he can eat and enjoy some of their soups, too. Bonus, I get to eat his focaccia (no yeast for him), which is really tasty.

Quick healthy cheap yummy meals. At $5 for a 3-servings bag of really yummy and healthy soup, this place is getting this vegetarian through her thesis! The cauliflower one is my favourite so far- so thick and yummy! Their baba ganoush is always a hit at get togethers too :)

I remember when this place was really really good. I used to have soup for lunch and take a couple of bags of their leftover soup home for quick dinners. But now, frankly, I just don't like anything they make anymore. And certainly not at those prices!

Sustenance for the dying. I was introduced to the Stock Market by a guy who visited a patient at the hospital where I work. The patient, who was dying from a rare, slow disease, was miserable to be around. I only half blame her, because she was in a lot of pain and knew she was dying. The visitor who knew about the Stock Market was a saint of a guy. He wasn't the patient's lover or anything, just an old friend from school, but he'd be up there every evening. The patient hated hospital food -- who doesn't? -- so the visitor would bring her soup from the Stock Market. That, and pain meds, were what she liked most. It probably added months to her life -- she was in hospital that long -- which prolonged the time she was yelling at us nurses, but that's why we get paid the big money.

I haven't eaten any soup from the Stock Market -- my wife makes good soup at home -- but if it's good enough for a difficult patient like that, it must be great. We do go to the Stock Market to buy demi-glace, which is necessary for certain fancy preparations like French steak sauces. It's hard to find that stuff, so thank you Stock Market for having it.

So Long Ago. I hadn't been to this place since the early noughts (2000's), but I do remember going there in the morning and having their hot cereals (do they do that anymore?) There were different varieties there and I wanted to try them all. I loved when they'd put a fruit sauce on top of it, so it tastes great!

Delicious soups, esp their seafood chowders. Wish they'd go Oceanwise; they regilarly use red snapper, which is delish, but unsustainable.

Tried the wild salmon soup. It was good, but pricey at 7.75 for a large bowl. Had the soup standing because it was so busy at grnaville island. The service was fast and courteous Would definitely like to try their other soups, but with a price tag of over $7, I won't be going often. Overall experience thumbs up.

Wonderful soup. Simply the best soup in Vancouver. What more is there to say?

I had the Red Snapper and Risotto Chowder. It came with Focacia bread. Delicious, Stock Market really knows their soups! NOM NOM!

I was on Granville Island (one of my regular haunts) and stopped at the “Stock Market” for a large bowl of their cock-a-leekie soup. It’s a fairly large bowl of hot chunky soup, with a modest piece of fresh herbed focaccia bread. As I understand it, cock-a-leekie soup is a traditional Scottish soup, consisting of leeks and potatoes in chicken stock, garnished with prunes.

The Final Verdict: If you’re ever around Granville Island, please do yourself a favour and try their soup. Or at least grab a bag of their soups-to-go. Only complaint I have is that they still use styrofoam containers, not very eco-friendly, but I guess it’s more convenient that way.

We're at Granville Island. It's been a torture of a day. But we press on. Torturing ourselves. When we couldn't take it any longer, we went for another nibble. The long lines at the Stock Market told me they must have some good stuff. Plus it's been a cold dreary day. When are we going to get another chance at chowing down some smoked wild salmon chowder in Canada? And I'm pleased to say, that the chowder was ridiculously good. Its creaminess -- achieved without the use of dairy or gluten -- I think may have come from the potatoes and the yellow split peas. The soup's thickness was cut through by the freshness of the chopped herbs. And the slivers of salmon added little bursts of smokeyness in between the warmth. The small piece of foccacia that came with the soup did a good job absorbing the goodness. This chowder was so good, I've since attempted to re-create it. In all the many variations I've made, I came close, but not enough. But maybe that's for the best.

I picked a small serve of hot smoked salmon, tomato-based chowder, which comes with a nice wedge of herbed foccacia. Piping hot and loaded with lots of finely chopped root veg (carrot, toms, onion, celery) and herbs the soup was flavoursome, hearty and warming. The bread was warm and fluffy and perfect dipping material for the soup.
