Review Beyond Coffee - Vancouver

I have stopped by at Beyond Coffee a few times, and have always observed that it’s a pretty quiet spot. It’s also quite spacious, so it would be great for a quick meeting or private conversation in a public place. The coffee is decent, food is pre-made and nothing special, and the service is usually decent. Wouldn’t recommend for the food/coffee, but definitely for the location.

This is a place where only tell customers that there is no toilet even though you belong to a hotel. EVEN Tim Holton has a bathroom. Should not sell the beverage. You'll wander around downtown Vancouver looking for a washroom.

There lunch meal was 14 bucks for Veggie chow mein...no side salad..nada.. outrageous price for this. I would stick to just the illy coffee. The staff here always seem indifferent to me and constantly rotating.

Conveniently located under Century Plaza Hotel and beside St. Paul's Hospital. Their turkey club sandwich is really delicious and filling! They also have sorbet and homemade ice cream sandwiches!

The steak meal was great. Little pricey compare to Alberta prices. It take away to my hotel room at Century Plaza hotel due to the Covid 19.

Friendly staff, great food and coffee, bit no washroom access. How is that even legal. Serving food and beverages with mo washroom access.

I just bought a salmon sandwich from here. I ate couple bites. And the bread was very stale and dried out. I phoned them to complain and hope to get a refund or credit. And there response was it was made fresh this morning. I told them I know what sour dough bread tastes like. And it isn't stale and dried up. Was so gross. Also. Over paid. Almost 10$ for a snadwhich that I wont be eating. Never again will I eat here again. NEVER!! 🤢🤮

Yummy brewed coffee. Nice pastries and breakfast. We had BF every morning as part of our hotel stay. Highly recommend.

Just Plain Blah. It' hard to judge a place based on breakfast alone (which is all I had here) mainly because it' hard to screw breakfast up. Well, Beyond have managed to do that. First off, i think we can all agree that eggs should be served hot and that "Over-easy" means there's stil yolf in the middle that' runny. Nothing worse than overcooked yet still cold...

Hash brown shouldn't be soggy and,,,, do i need to go on? Also, the coffee grinder is so loud that I left with actual hearing damage. Avoid this place.

Terrible...We ate at beyond a few years back and said we wouldn't return ever. However, we decided to give them another shot and again were disappointed. Eat somewhere else for the price!..what a joke

We went to the restaurant while staying at the hotel, and were disappointed. For the price I would expect better tasting and better quality food. The worst part is when I found long threads from a dish cloth in my ice tea. Waitress acted like it wasn't anything new, took the tea off the bill and didn't say anything like sorry or I apologize. If this restaurant had to exist without the hotel guest it probably wouldn't exist.

Food just okay, service just okay.....I would choose another restaurant over this anytime...

Birthday Dinner Disaster. I made a reservation for 15 people for the "laughter package" for my birthday. I was both disappointed and embarrassed by the service we received. As the restaurant did not appear busy, I had trouble understanding why the following occurred:
- Drinks took up to 20 minutes to receive
- Although we ordered around 8:40, we did not receive our entrees until almost 10pm. This wouldn't have posed as much of a problem if we hadn't been going to the 10:30 show. We were rushed to finish eating.
- No one came around while we were eating to ask if everything was ok or to fill water (until we asked)
- We had to ask for our bills as soon as we started eating our entrees because we knew we were running late, and many of the bills were not correctly split. Both of these were very inconvenient.

Also, the laughter package was advertised on their website for $35 but it was only when I called to inquire about making a reservation was I told it now cost $39. False advertising if you ask me.

The extremely poor service overshadowed everything else, including the food which was actually pretty good and the nice interior dining space. Drinks were ok but a bit on the pricey side.

Pretty Good. I came to Beyond with my mom during the Tourism Challenge. It was a buy one/get one free entree deal.

I had a burger with carrot ginger soup, my mom had fish and chips.

The burger was great, but the carrot ginger soup was really not to my liking, but was replaced with fries when I asked.

My mom's fish and chips, according to her, were fantastic.

Our server and hostess were great! Friendly, upbeat, and accomodating.

All in all, a very nice meal, and even at regualr prices (not the 2 for 1 I had) it would have been a decent meal for the price.

Thanks guys!

Not the best. We were staying in the hotel and they offered us a 2 for 1 coupon to try the restaurant. We both ordered the salmon with 3 perogies dish. It was awful, lukewarm, lacking in flavour and there was a butter type sauce on top it tasted gross and smelt horrible. Only ate a bit of it and left. Service was okay, but took a very long time for the food to come over 45min. Prices are also high. Don't think I will return.

Comfortable & Delectable. Since I had a 2 for 1 entree coupon for Beyond Restaurant & Lounge and it is right next to the church where the VSO show was playing that my mum and I were to see, we decided to take advantage! It was a wonderful experience and I would love to go back for their lunch, brunch, and breakfasts! The seating was very comfortable and I appreciate the use of dark wood throughout the restaurant, lounge, and bathrooms.
The food was also delectable: I ordered the delicious and very hearty Seafood Gnocchi in which the scallops were seared lightly and perfectly, the sauce was delicate and let the food speak for itself, and was of the perfect proportion. I saw some reviewers complain of slow service and while it is true that it was not very quick, I enjoyed the unhurried pace as it made for a relaxed meal. The service did not suffer as well, as it was attentive and most importantly for me very unobtrusive. The Pear Almond Tart was also wonderful with incredible toffee ice cream and the most buttery yet light pie pastry. Thank you!

Chiliwack Fresh Corned Beef Hash. Succulent, large pieces of easy-to-identify ingredients -- very fresh and so appealing

-----26 Nov, 2011-----

Excellent service for regulars. We have happily been regular customers for the Sunday brunch at Beyond Restaurant for several years and have introduced a number of friends to this great restaurant. We have almost always been greated by name and told how nice it is to see us return. NORMALLY, we would not either become regulars or patronize a hotel restaurant but this spot is in its own category. There is a consistent high quality to all the buffet items (including the carving board feature) and the produce is all local and fresh. Of particular importance is the volume of clients which allows for continual refresh of the hot dishes. We are very happy with this restaurant and look forward to their special Christmas luncheon buffet. Very nice staff who take a great deal of pride in serving their customers.

Tasty food, small portions for price and slow service. I ate at Beyond this weekend while staying at the Century Plaza and had read the reviews beforehand. I wasn't sure what to expect but had a $100 gift cert.
The restaurant and lounge have lovely decor and kind of reminded me of Vegas. The server was friendly but it took us 20 minutes to get a drink and 10 to get a menu. This was an ongoing but minor irritant throughout our 3.5 hour stay.
We ordered drinks, appies, entrees and dessert- the bill came to $125 for 2 of us with tons of food and bev.
Appies: Lemon pepper calamari- yummy. Spinach & crab dip- good but TINY for 15$.
Drinks: Mojito was EXCELLENT with lots of mint. Kiwi martini was also tasty.
Entrees: Salmon- excellent fish and veggies but awful potatoes. Halibut in truffle oil- excellent but served with 3 cheemo perogies (even if they weren't I eat cheemos all the time and I should have been able to taste the difference).
Dessert: Lemon tart with fresh strawberries and whipper cream- excellent
All in all, the food was good with a couple of experience-lowering anomalies. Our server accommodated us moving tables twice so we could watch the Canucks game.

Halibut with truffle oil was bees knees. I was staying at the hotel for work and ended up downstairs at Beyond for a solo dinner. Another patron was having the halibut and dumplings and raved about them - according to staff she's a Kelowna restaurant owner and she seemed knowledgable - so I ordered the same. It was really good. Just a hint of truffle oil, perfectly prepared, and a simple rendition of an amazing fish. Nice staff too.

Pleasantly surprised , went for dine out . I have the grilled vegetables to start, then lobster pasta dish, my guest had the leek soup & then the short ribs. We both really enjoyed our meals. The service was in experienced and weak .

Never again. Beyond is expensive and uninviting; the food is ok but is far from deserving of the prices. Service is lazy and unaccommodating of families with young children which is a must for a restaurant in a hotel lobby.

My family and I have eaten here twice, based on location, as we stay at the Century Plaza when in Vancouver. Our most recent visit confirmed that we will certainly not be dining here again.

Beyond doesn't have a kids menu and I'm ok with that, frankly I'd rather not offer my 4 year old chicken fingers and fries again but I'm not going to shell out $25 for an adult entree that she won't like either. Our not so helpful server suggested something off the bar menu, a $14 hamburger large enough for a trucker it was. We did manage to negotiate the addition of a few carrot sticks to sweeten the deal.

I understand that young children don't always add to the ambiance of a dining establishment but c'mon we all have to eat.

Horrible. My friend hosted a birthday party at Beyond with about 50 attendance. We had it buffet style and everything tasted bland. Although we got a "deal" for the group menu, we could've probably gotten very good food at places like The Keg with about $40 including taxes and tips. We basically occupied the half of the restaurant that night and the other half was quite empty. Yet despite the amount of business we bring to the restaurant that day, we had the most horrible service ever. The servers honestly weren't busy at all so I don't know why it takes them forever to do everything. They also charged us for having a birthday cake, a so-called "cutting fee". It's charged PER PIECE and we can't cut it ourselves. Seriously, this is probably one of the worst restaurants I have been to. All 50 people in the party agreed that we would never return ever again. What a good way to run a restaurant?
Gotta Eat
Tender, but tastless. We went there few nights ago for a nice meal and some gentle comedy at Yuk Yuks. The comedy was great, the food was not so. We had the 3 course meal spa package, so that include pan-seared tuna, halibut, and panna cotta. The tuna and the halibut both were quite tender, but very tastelss, not my cup of tea. The panna cotta was great, very creamy yogurty taste. The presentation of all three items were beautiful, but it's not quite enough to make up for the lack of taste. The meal was $38, and the comedy was $7. The comedy was awesome, totally worth every cent.

Ermm.... A group of us went out for lunch/brunch. 2 of my friends had the seafood soup ($9) and both ended up being delighted, although one sent back his bowl for a bowl with fish chunks in it (and received it).
myself and another had the caesar salad ($9)- we were told it was a big salad, but it wasn't. the dressing was in clumps on a few pieces of the lettuce and not really mixed through the salad, although when i found it, it was quite tasty. the cheese was not processed (thank God!) but it was commercially shredded and stale. having a caesar salad like that one makes me want to stay home and cook for myself.
other folks had other food, but i didn't hear comments about it either way.
the decor was nice and modern iwth wood floors, although without felt on the bottom of the chair legs, rising from the table or adjusting one's chair was quite disruptive to the room.
the wait staff were courteous and mostly prompt.
the buffet looked good, but was $24, so we skipped it, but we noticed another table that was there before us, and probably ate their week's worth of food. it looked really good, a nice balance of savoury and sweet breakfast/ brunch items.
perhaps i'd try brunch on a day when i could go and eat for several hours.

Our original plan was to have drinks at “Beyond”, located on the bottom floor of the “Century Plaza Hotel”, before catching a show at the”Comedy Mix”, in the basement. So that’s where we were enjoying cocktails, until we got hungry and decided to cancel the comedy show and stay for dinner instead. Usually when you picture a hotel restaurant you imagine things a little more fancy, a little more higher end. By the first blush looks of things “Beyond Restaurant & Lounge” were sure setting themselves up for that feel. You either enter from the hotel foyer by way of the front entrance; or from the side door that also leads you through the bright lights, and tiled floor of the lobby. You know you are heading in the right direction when passing by the three piece canvas art work. It depicts the restaurant’s name and an interpretation of a martini you could have there. There is not much in terms of decor or art. The simplicity of the wooden table, white chairs, brown booths, and red high back

I am not sure if I will return to Beyond for a meal. The food really needed to be a lot less salty for me to enjoy a meal. However, I think that Beyond would be a great location to go to for a drink.

The wait staff were attentive, friendly and accommodating, checking in on our table often enough to be present

It’s literally a hop skip and a jump away from where I live (for which I was profoundly grateful after breakfast) and I am a frequent patron of the Beyond Coffee Bar (where to be fair, I have never had a bad meal)...

Last week, my work's Social Committee organized an event that was billed as a Comedy Night, preceded by dinner. So suffice it to say, dinner was "not" the focus. The comedy lounge we selected was the Comedy Mix, in the Century Plaza Hotel, this meant that our event included dinner at Beyond Restaurant and Lounge . Dinner was supposed to start at 6:30, so I was worried when I arrived at 7pm. Well, I didn't have to be ~ turns out, they only took drink orders for the first half hour. Whew, so I didn't miss a thing! We are had set menu, where the options were a Sliced Organic Greens Salad or a Seafood Bouillabaisse with sablefish, wild salmon and mussels. I decided to go with the Bouillabaisse. And there you have it...two mussels, and three dice-sized cubes of salmon, in the wateriest broth you could imagine. Simply mix a package of ketchup with a cup of water, sprinkle in green onions, and there you have it. Beyond disappointing. I tweeted this photo at the time it arrived, and I got two

I was invited to the 5 course Italian WineMakers Dinner at Beyond, which was one of the events at The West Coast Chocolate Festival. Since this was a special event and it would not be a proper representation can do on a regular night.
