Review Romers Burger Bar - Vancouver

Adam J Bell
Awesome burger selection and possibly one of the best burgers I've ever had. I say it's a must visit for burger lovers at least once. They have an outdoor seating area which isn't super common in the area, great for warm days. Cool building design too, really stands out. Staff were relatively slow in coming back to us each time.

Great selection of quality burgers. So many to choose from. I've never been unimpressed from the three times I've been there. Sliders were a hit with the kids. Great place to bring hangry/grumpy kids to chow down.

As far as burgers go, Romer’s is always near the top of my list when I’m craving. The extra charge for fries with the burger is a little strange al though it is very inexpensive to add them. There was no salt on the fries, nor salt on the table unfortunately. The drinks were great and the music choice was excellent too, not too loud and the selection fits the vibe. The food took a little longe than we wild have hoped for considering the amount of people in the establishment. Street parking is metered as per usual. Will be coming back for sure.

Food was good. Service was good. My wife thought the oil was too old as her fish came out too dark from the fryer. My Nashville chicken burger was good but a bit too crispy. My son loved his steak frites and my other son loved his Parkside Graffiti burger.

I got the Magic Mushroom (edited) Vegan Burger on Vegan Bun via doordash take-out delivery with Beet Salad and Fries, overall a nice lunch. The burger and fries were not too greasy and tasted pretty fresh as well the meal delivered well presented and in compostable packaging. Whilst this joint is not a pure vegetarian restaurant, it does have good flexibility to cater for veggies and vegans by offering both 100% Vegan burger, Beyond Meat burger and even Vegan bread bun/cheese replacements etc. Courier and delivery fees aside, I must admit that for the price I could not justify the quality or portion of the meal. Although it was nice, just short of 25 bucks is expensive for what it is, especially only being one veggie patty. Paying extra for veggie meats and substitutes is a bit crazy, seen as though it's obvious that meat produce is always more expensive market cost and therefore seems unfair. Support local businesses!

Food was good. Beer was good. Service lady was nice and attentive - I got my 2 beers when I needed them. Good stuff.

Good food and drinks, great music selection, good service. The parking is a challenge, but if you're lucky you can get 1h free parking at the side of the restaurant. You just need to remember to validate your plate, though.

I loved the food and most importantly I loved the patio. Overall, It was a relaxing experience. I will definitely visit again with my gang. Red Truck Beer is best 🍻🍻🍺🍺

Romer's is a pretty popular joint with several locations in Great Vancouver. Although they are called a 'burger bar', they do actually serve a pretty large menu of other foods consisting of various traditional pub fare. I had the opportunity to check out their Kits location, which is located on 4th Avenue, not far from Granville Island. I had their Righteous Rib Burger as well as Romer's Almost World Famous Drunken Doughnuts. The burger was good, but not spectacular (I actually prefer the ones at Red Robins), and I did feel that their prices are a bit steep considering that it doesn't come with any sides. I did really enjoy their donuts however. Service was decent: the server I had as friendly, though not overly attentive. All in all, not a bad place to check out if you're craving a burger or some other pub fare.

Righteous Rib Burger ($13.95):
3.5/5
In addition to a beef patty, this burger contained braised short rib, maple smoked bacon, sweet onions, gorgonzola cream, and fresh thyme. I was quite impressed by the patty itself, which was tender and juicy. The short rib was a bit uneven, being tender in some parts, but quite dry and hard in some others, particularly around the edges. I really enjoyed the gorgonzola cream, which added a great juiciness and flavour and the brioche bun (because a real burger has to have an actual bun and not lettuce) was soft and fluffy. I did find the overall flavour to be a bit one note: everything was savoury and I could have done with a bit of sweetness to balance out the flavour.

Romer's Almost World Famous Drunken Doughnuts ($8.95):
4/5
This consisted of 10 small donuts that were dusted in powdered sugar, and were served with a trio of dips: limoncello, maple whisky, and Kahula Nutella. The donuts themselves were fresh, warm and soft, reminiscent of the mini donuts that you can get at PNE. The limoncello dip was similar to that of the curd in a lemon tart, and was quite thick with a wonderful tanginess. In all honesty, I couldn't really tell the difference between the other two dips, although both were tasty, except that one (the darker dip, which is probably the Khula Nutella) had a stronger liquor flavour than the other.

Summary:
Food: 3.5/5
Price: 3.5/5
Service: 3.5/5
Overall: 3.5/5
Recommendations: Romer's Almost World Famous Drunken Doughnuts

Romer's is always a solid place to grab a good burger. They have some standard favourites and some interesting combinations/twists. I have never had a bad meal here. It's not my favourite burger place but it is reliable and tasty.

Ordered for pick up and when I arrived the order hadn't been placed. I was not offered anything in way of compensation. The hostess had a very poor attitude and I shant be coming back.

I think that we can all agree that knowing where to grab a good burger is key information to have. So when I saw Romer's on You Gotta Eat Here! and read that they were voted as #1 Best Burger 2017 in The Georgia Straight’s Golden Plates annual poll, I obviously had to try them for myself. They have three locations in the Vancouver area and one of them is conveniently located right near me in Kitsilano. We hit them up on a Friday night and were quickly seated without a wait.

The restaurant is fairly large, with locals and tourists alike huddled around tantalizing burgers. The space is fairly straight forward, with a polished look of shiny black tiles and wooden rafters that add a bit of a rustic feel. The booths are wrapped in cherry red and there are TVs all over the place. It’s casual and comfortable. The servers are very kind and friendly, although I found things a little bit slow at times.

They have plenty of drink specials including a happy hour and different deals for every day of the week. I was excited to see that bellinis are only $5 on Fridays and almost got one... Until I noticed that they also serve some really nice non-alcoholic drinks as well. I chose the Mango Mint Ice Tea (Mango puree, fresh mint, ice tea - $5.00) because sometimes I’m just into something refreshing and good. And it was refreshing and good! All three elements in this drink came together really well, and I enjoyed that each ingredient was very obvious. I really appreciate when restaurants offer more than just pop on the non-alcoholic menu.

The burgers here are not automatically served with fries, so if you want anything extra you need to order it. They have a large array of appetizers to choose from, as well as a section of various fries & rings. There are certainly a lot of choices on their large menu. We wanted to have some sort of fry situation and the Truffle Fries (Reggiano Parmesan - $8.95) seemed exactly like something that we would do. These certainly looked freakin’ fantastic, but the actual flavour left a bit to be desired. While the truffle aroma was blasting into our noses, the truffle flavour itself seemed to be a bit lost. The fries themselves were crispy and good, and cooked well. But unless you grabbed one that was heavily coated in seasoning, there wasn’t very much going on for bold flavour. Which is what I had hoped for. Also, they served these fries with ketchup which seems like a silly missed opportunity. Why not a truffle aioli? In fact, their (somewhat confusing) menu even lists that they have truffle aioli which can be ordered for $1.45. How does this not automatically come with these fries?? Worried that that would be too much truffle? Because that’s not a thing.

Obviously I was here to eat a burger. Although if you’re not in the mood for a burger, they have plenty of other things to choose from; from big salads, to hot bowls, to tacos or mac & cheese. But their “thing” is burgers and there are eleven different ones to choose from. They also boast that their ground beef is fresh and organic from the Blue Goose Cattle Company. They are very proud of this. The beef is sourced right here in beautiful British Columbia, south Cariboo region. Raised ethically and humanely on pastures of certified organic lands without the use of hormones or antibiotics and is Canadian Certified Organic. (Can’t complain about any of that!) They serve this quality beef on their fresh brioche bun. Don’t want a bun? You can have it on a lettuce “bun” instead. Don’t want a hand-held situation at all? Turn your burger into a bowl. (It’s a lot.) I was pretty torn with which burger to choose. The Chorizador or the Port & Stilton both sounded exactly like typical picks for me. But instead, I went with the Man’s Man (Vine ripened tomatoes, maple smoked bacon, amber ale cheddar, crispy onion strings, smoked alder salts - $13.45) for something a bit more classic. I was totally craving a great straight-forward burg with nice salty bacon and with a good sharp cheddar. Plus I loves me some onion strings. It looked great when it arrived and I dug right in! I did enjoy the flavour of the beef patty, which tasted very fresh and was cooked well (not too overdone, either). The best thing was the deliciously buttery brioche bun, which was warm and melted in my mouth. But unfortunately I found everything else to be a bit lackluster with the flavours getting somewhat lost. These should have been bold ingredients, but they kinda fell flat. The onion strings were good, but could have used to be slightly crispier. The tomato was fine. The bacon was crispy and okay. The cheddar almost didn’t exist. ...And the smoked alder salts? I forgot that they were even supposed to be there. It was a decently alright burger, but probably not worth the title of “best burger in all of the land.” The pickle on the side was very good.

I would probably return to try a different burger. (Plus they also do brunch.) But overall everything seemed pretty expensive and pretty underwhelming. They have the right pieces to create some pretty good burgers but I feel as if something is being lost in the execution. Not bad food, but not the best.

I had a terrible day today and finally gave my notice at work. I called up a pal of mine to have a beer later at night. We were in the kits area and decided to go to Romers.

As we were seated the waitress noticed the hostess forgot to give us happy hour menus. Minus points for the hostess... But none the less we were excited to see 5 dollar beers and 10 dollar nachos! Our service was excellent from our server and when we asked for the bill, you get a complementary dessert when you fill out their survey, wow nice surprise!

Even though I had a bad day, I must say, I really like their late night happy hour menu. Sometimes you really don't want to stuff yourself before bed. This was perfect. Romers came through tonight and I felt a whole lot better.
I had some friends over today, and after an issue with my oven meant we couldn't cook we decided to order food from Romer's. Foodora did an excellent job getting the food to us within 30 minutes, however what we received was already soggy and unappetizing. Burgers were barely edible, onion rings seemed under cooked and had raw garlic on them, and poutine was nothing to write home about. Worst of all they forgot part of the order and we had to go out to get McDonald's for one of my friends. Ironically, he enjoyed a better meal than any of us did. At upwards of 13 dollars a burger (just the burger, no sides) we definitely feel we overpaid. Not at all recommended.

Best burgers in Vancouver? There is NO WAY its the best burgers. I ordered the "Man's Man" burger, waitress asked if I liked mustard (which doesn't say it has mustard, I hate mustard) So then I asked for Mayo. Food came, I saw my empty burger that had MAYBE 4 lil strings of onions, 2 soggy ass tomatoes that were under the small weird looking patty. NO MAYO! It was empty and also I didn't even see the tiny bacon as well. I tasted it and it was awful, had a weird animal taste, hard to explain. They also charge you $6 for a TINY plate of fried to share with 2 people, my friend and I laughed and was like WTF is this? Anyways, its a shame, I will never ever go back. Vancouver has some pretty sweet burger placed and this ain't one! Side note, It was EMPTY, which is sad because every other restaurant was full. We will see how long they last.

We went here for my birthday and burgers were great! I had the mushroom and fries burger was juicy fries were hot. I also had the white wine sangria spritzer and a sampler of craft beer. The service was great! Kinda small restaurant but good food! I cant wait to try the marine drive location i heard its by the water. My one regret is that I didnt have enough room to try the doughnuts with chocolate dipping sauce! That means i have to go there again!

I visited Romer's a few days back with my friend, and we both really liked the place. It was around 4 pm on a Monday, so faiiirly empty, great drinks, an excellent burger and our server was super attentive and helpful.

Both of us had something from the daily specials, and I tried their special beer margarita too. At first I was skeptical, but let me tell you, now I'm SOLD. Beer and lime go strangely well together. We ordered the burger of the month, which sounded delicious from its description, but tasted even better. Something with bacon, tomatoes, lime aioli and brie cheese. Yum.

I think if I were walking by that part of Kits, I would definitely go again. Especially for their beerita. Good stuff.

Is this place really known for their burgers? I think I beg to differ on this one. We definitely had one of the worst experiences. Hearing so many great things about their burgers, my friends and I were super excited to head here for lunch to try it out. Boy, were we in for a surprise!. Some of our craptastic burgers

Let me just start by saying I love Romer's burgers!!

I haven't had a bad burger there. Their flavors are well put together and thought out. Every burger is unique. I love the Mushroom burger might be called magic mushroom. Anytime you add boursin ontop of a melting hot pattie you cannot loose.

On this visit I tried the Chorizo sausage burger. It was really flavourful and a lot of food. I got a side of yam fries ...yummy.

My friend got the veggie burger and I had a bite, not bad at all. I also had a Bellini, it was a touch sweet but it's a bellini so I expected nothing less. Doesn't beat the earls bellini though.

This place is one if my old favorites and I can't wait till my next visit!

I gave the manager more than a week to reply to my concerns via email. I like having a response from management before I post an opinion online, just in case there is a reasonable explanation. Here are my issues with Romer's:

My husband got the $25 three-course meal of mushroom soup, the man's man burger, and mini donuts. He enjoyed the first two courses but the four mini donuts he got were all soggy, oily balls of mush with giant globs of... I think powdered sugar stuck to the sides. Already having a chronic stomach issue, he knew if he even tried to eat them he would be in trouble. When the server came to our table she asked if we would like a new batch and at that point he was just turned off the idea altogether. Yet when we got our bill, it was still the three-course menu price. I figured at the time it might still be a good deal, but on the car ride home I looked up their menu online and realized that without dessert, the soup and burger purchased separately come to just under $21. And I know, having worked in restaurants before, that when there is a three-course deal, the appy and dessert are smaller portions to compensate for the reduced price. The half a bowl of soup he got, I'm hoping, is not what they serve to someone paying full price. Even so, We ended up paying $4 more than we should have for that meal.

Another side point, we were sat directly next to the kitchen and our eyes burned from the frying onions the entire time. Even on the way home we were both wiping away tears from our eyes still watering.

My salad was good, and my husband enjoyed his soup and burger. But I find it was not good value for the money, I don't like that the donuts were saturated in oil (WORSE than the P.N.E.), our bill wasn't corrected, and I haven' received a response from the GM.

I’ve decided to cut back on the number of restaurant visits I do for Dine Out Vancouver this year. Although there are always a few great deals during the promotion, I find that the majority of menus just don’t appeal to me as someone that doesn’t care much for desserts. Sure, I’m saving a few dollars, but considering that I would normally never order the last course, it often winds up costing me more than I would normally spend. Nonetheless, despite my attempts to avoid the festival, I still got roped into a handful of dinners. The first was with Easy A, Island Girl, and Red. Island Girl has been watching her wallet recently, and suggested that we try out one of the cheaper $20 menus. After looking through the various options, we settled on the original location of Romer’s Burger Bar in Kitsilano. I’d been there two or three times in the past, and never been particularly impressed with their burgers, but it had been a few years since my last visit, so I figured I should give them another chance.

I’ve heard that Romer’s Burger Bar serves some kickass burgers, it has always been on my go-to list, and with three locations there shouldn’t have been any excuses not to have gone yet. Only thing that was holding me back was how much was I will to pay for a ‘gourmet’ burger when places like Famous Warehouse serves a pretty convincing one for a price of $4.95.

The Ultimate Kobe Classic burger is the best tasting burger if you're looking to sink your teeth in a juicy delectable organic beef patty. The red wine jus dip takes this burger to a whole new level.

I have been to the South Van location a couple times and it was damn good. This was my first time at this location, and it was spot on in its consistancy. I had the chorizo burger this time. It was much better than I anticipated. The chorio was ground up and mixed with the beef perfectly. Not overpowering at all, yet still noticeable and really good. Excelllent service as well. In the words of Arnold Schwarzenegger: "I'll be back."

I came here after a volleyball game with some of my teammates and we were starving! Thankfully, the place was not very busy at all since it was a Tuesday night I guess. Our waitress was totally on it, quick to take our order and was very helpful in helping us with our ordering decisions. I ordered the Baja Shrimp tacos, which were unlike any other tacos I'd had before. I asked the waitress if they were hard shell or soft and she said the shell was more like a naan bread - interesting? The tacos were good but I wasn't necessarily blown away. My friends got burgers and were not disappointed (except for one friend who was advised to get flatbread with her burger), obviously Romers is known for their burgers so you can't really go wrong! I just wish their burgers would come with fries!!!

Just Okay. Went on a friday evening the girl who served us was very good as was the beer. The special lamb burger was nice but not sure what the advantage of a greasy bun is... My girlfriend had the Maui Ribs with soya kiwi marinade i think they forgot to marinade it as it was poor also the fresh cut fries were like English oven chips so a little disappointing

What happened?. I recall going to romers when it first opened and thinking everything was amazing, my last few times though have been pretty mediocre. The poutine is disappointing my burger was bland in fact I almost asked if they had given me a veggie burger by accident. Seems a shame as they used to be so good.
Cale.s.campbell
Good. Tasty, healthy, and the food was made FAST. The food was 7/10, nothing amazing. But solid

So sad. The bomb has ben taken off the menu. It was the only thing I ever ordered... I won't be eating here as often anymore!

One of the best burgers in town. Romers is my go-to place for impressing friends with a good burger. Their burgers are fresh beef with amazing toppings. It's nice to try their "burger of the month" which is often an experimental burger that sometimes ends up on the regular menu if it's popular (like the Chorizador). Wings are always crispy, and the dipping mini doughnuts are addictive. Oh, and I think they serve salad too, but I really don't see the point of that.

If you want a kick ass burger, go here.

Top rate burgers and hot buns!. We tried Romers for the time and we very impressed with the service and food. Shared the Mushroom burger and halibut Tacos. The burger was really moist and mushrooms were delicious. The halibut tacos had a really flavorful mango salsa and the taco shell was like a naan consistency. We told Riley about our fantastic experience and she treated us to Romer's mini donuts which were SO YUMMY !!! Thanks Riley and the Romer's team... we will be back.

Soft burger buns. Their burger buns are so soft. I ordered the mushroom burger but it was sadly burnt.

Burnt soft buns. Had the mushroom burger and I must say the buns were very soft and delicious. But the sad thing was that it was burnt. Couldn't enjoy my burger. Good buns but burnt. So sad.

Ajs. I went to Romer's today for an early morning burger and their cheese burger did not disappoint. There was real potential for a burger with 5 kinds of cheese to be excessive but Romer's did it right. Not only was it beautiful it was also delicious and didn't leave me feeling gross afterwards, like most burger places do. Staff was super helpful and polite as a bonus.

One of the Worst Experiences Ever. Dinner: March 1, 2014

I will preface this by saying that I am one that eats out multiple times a week, and am very fair when it comes to my experiences.

We first went to the one at Rivers District but were told it would be over an hour wait. The manager phoned the Kits location for us and was told that it was pretty much empty. I asked if he could make us reservations there as we would be driving right over. The manager said that location didn't allow for reservations.

We arrived at the West 4th location within 25 minutes and found the restaurant packed. There were people outside waiting, and was told our wait would only be 20 minutes. However, that wait became an hour due to the fact people with reservations (that they supposedly don't take) were seated ahead of us.

They poorly manage their seating, which if done correctly could speed things up immensely. They have two people sitting in a booth that can hold six. One wrap around booth also only had two people in it. These people should be sent to the bar, or wait for the tables for two.

Once we were seated no waitress came near us. I finally grabbed one and we ordered. It then took 35 minutes until we got our food. We then did not see our waitress again until the end (more on that later).

As for the food, I am uncertain why people rave about it. The buns are deep-fried I think, as they are almost burnt and super greasy. The poutine has no flavour (I truly mean, no flavour). The onion rings and dipping sauce however are great. One person ordered a salmon burger, but it was so fishy tasting and way too salty, that they left half of it. Everything was actually quite salty (to drive drink sales obviously).

We weren't done eating when the waitress came over and asked us if we wanted our stuff packed up. My girlfriend actually had her hamburger in her hand, taking a bite when she asked us this. We told her we were done, and so she left the bill. We didn't see her again until I literally grabbed her so we could pay.

Sincerely one of the worst experiences ever. My review is the kindest one of our party.

Those that rave about this place do so because it is trendy, or because they do not appreciate good food or service.

Excellent. Fabulous burgers, great service!

The Place for Burgers. Best burgers in the area! Great for lunch after a late night out. If you haven't tried Romer's yet, you're missing out.
SomeAsianGuy
Best burgers. I love this place. Whenever I work in Vancouver, I try to make my way down to Romer's for a juicy 'overpriced' burger. Well, they are not overpriced, because they are so deliciouse, but they are expensive. I also love their specialty fries. This is a well done business, they have done premium burgers the right way.

In addition to the food, staff are awesome, super friendly, asking how everything is going etc. But I am there soley for the burgers and fries, great staff is just a bonus.
Sandy
Awesome, fresh, innovative burger-- delicious truffle fries and amazing mini donuts. Also had exceptional and prompt service. 10/10 for me!

Overpriced mediocre tasting burgers with no flair.... I attended a big group gathering here in which they required we select a set menu fixed price dinner, thus eliminating all the guests freedom of choice. For $21, each table of guests receive a variety of appetizers, a burger platter (~1 burger/person), fries (sea salt/garlic), and a beet salad. Considering their name itself touts burgers as their specialty, I was quite surprised to be very disappointed in the quality of their food. We had a selection from the magic mushroom, some chicken burger, and another beef burger. All 3 types were bland, uninspired, and overcooked. One of my beef patties tasted like a charcoal briquette, and really brought to question why this burger would cost $10+ when I could cook 10 of these burgers on my own that would taste far better. On top of that, their appetizer selection was mediocre as well. The threesome of nuts/dill pickles/olives were meh. The edamame was flavourful, have to give them that, but they didn't give very much wings for our whole group (enough only for 1-2/person). The fries were a split between normal and garlic, but were cold by the time they had come. Nonetheless we wolfed them down as we had become quite hungry waiting for the burgers to come after the appies. The beet salad...was a beet salad.

All in all, I was quite disappointed with Romer's, thought they had more in them, and certainly wouldn't recommend it for large groups for events in which they FORCE you to have a prix fix menu rather than let each person choose their own meal. Their normal menu may be better, but even looking at it it looks overpriced (my standard for a good pub burger price should be $10 max, unless it has some super special pricey ingredient). Otherwise I might as well go enjoy a Triple O burger for cheaper.

Date night with the hubby. Got there before 6pm. No wait. He had the resolution burger with angus steak beef, grilled cheese, bacon aioli, lettuce & caramelized onion and I had their mushroom burger also with angus steak beef, portobello mushrooms, watercress, and Boursin cheese. Each had a beer- his was a maple ale and mine was a raspberry ale. Didn't care for the maple ale- next time will get a sample before ordering a sleeve. Service was efficient- friendly. Burgers were yummy. No sides. A good amount of food. Total bill $37. No complaints. Food in Van is expensive. If you want delish and cheap food, go to Portland. There's a great selection, happy hours, and no tax! Will go back, even if it was our 3rd time around. Consistently good experiences!!

Keep on roaming past this place. I have tried many of burgers in this town and was not impressed with the burgers here. the service was really friendly but the atmosphere was not pleasant. huge booths that make no sense, dark lighting and barely and sunlight hits anywhere. burgers are good but the buns are not the greatest.
Willow H
Sorry but although it tastes good its ridiculously over-priced. $20 for a burger and yam fries. They charge separately for sides... $13 for burger plus $7 for yam fries. C'mon. That's some kinda scam.
John Smith
Worst burger and fries in van. Burger was overcooked. fries were undercooked. never returning.

Great but nothing extraordinary. Dropped by this place tonight with a group of friends (9 of us) and seating went smoothly since a few people arrived early. (Just so you know, they don't take reservations!)

Magic Mushroom Burger was delicious (or maybe just the grease), yam fries and onion rings were good (but nothing special), garlic fries were good (unique taste!), and although the Drunken Donuts were good, they were nothing extraordinary. The dips (especially the lemon) were what made the donuts good!

Verdict: They had some unique items on the menu and nothing was a disappointment. However, nothing in particular is extraordinary except for maybe the burgers. Regardless, a great experience.

For a meal both tasty and different from your usual chain restaurant, at under $20, this place was pretty good!

Standard Burger. I've called ahead for pickup and the girl told me it's going to take 10-15 minutes
when i got there (15+ minutes after), still not ready
i need to wait for another 15 minutes before the food is ready
then the box is super greasy and the burger is way too oil (especially) when the fries are not in the same box

Funky Buger Spot. I enjoyed the burger I ordered very much as it was big and piled high with unique toppings. Service was slow as indicated on menu. Finding out that the burgers did not come with sides was disappointing however the basket of fries we ordered was huge and very tasty. If you are feeling a burger with a twist stop by ... its worth it !!!!!!!!!

Hit's the spot!. I had the Righteous Rib Burger and am happy to say when the burger came out it looked just like the pictures which can't be said about many places. Great burger, real homemade taste and it wasn't drowned out with special sauces etc. The bun really compliments the burger and you better believe I'll be back.

The only romers that you should try is the one on marine. The others are too salty or really bad service.
The Guys Dine Out
What we need more of in this city.. Romer's is a pretty great place on all points. The burgers are great, original and really well prepared. Everything from the grilled cheese croutons that come with the soup to the red wine reduction that came with our Kobe burger (on the side so you can make your burger as moist or dry as you want) were not only delicious but showed great attention to detail. We sat right by the kitchen and I watched as no plate left without being looked over and tidied up. Even the buns, that looked huge at first (which I don't really like) were airy and just perferct for a burger. It was our first visit and we didn't stay long but we are very much looking forward to next time.
Kassidy1979
What a rip-off. The bar/restaurant looks quite nice from the outside thus, we decided to give it a try last week.
Unfortunately that's what it's good about it already.
It's in the middle of winter but the restaurant did not seem to be heated at all. We were freezing while we were waiting for the waitress, which happened many times during our stay there.

The food is totally overpriced and the portions are small. I ordered the arugula-mushroom salad which costs 4 Dollars and comes in a bowl that is so small that after three bites my salad was gone. Then the burgers: The price start from 9 Dollar and goes up to 20 Dollar for ONE Burger. And don't think that they serve a side dish with the burger. You have to order an additional side dish which costs you more money than expected.
Oh well to be fair I should say they mention on their menu that every burger comes with their super amazing garlic-olives ...What a joke because they only serve ONE OLIVE and that's it. And it's not super amazing, let me tell you this.

On their menu they mention it will take a little bit time to prepare this super awesome burger, thus we were kinda excited what would come along. Especially when you pay over ten bucks for a single burger. You expect something super awesome and big. But well... when we got our food the disappointment was huge. The burgers they serve are not special at all. In fact they are super small, the portion of the meat is so little that again after three bites it's gone and they put a lot (and I mean a lot) of salt on everything! We just wanted to get away from this place after this experience and won't come back for sure. This place is such a huge rip-off and I can not recommend this place to anybody. If you wanna have a nice burger with a fair value you can find a lot of other places were you can expect exactly this.

Therefore Romer's Burger can burger off.

Burgers were ok. Great size and nice taste! However it was the onion rings that will make me go back. Large and juicy with some parmesan.

Not great.. I've eaten there a few times and just found it OK. It's a burger joint so one would think they would have it down pat but they seem to have missed the mark.
Service there is hit and miss at best and the explanations of the food by the servers is pretty poor. Come on people you work there, get to know what you serve.
Give it a try and see what you think, it's, in my opinion, ok, but, I think they could do way better.

-----22 Feb, 2012-----

Not great.. Food looked better than it tasted. Service was horrible. A girl named Sarah was our waitress probably the worst waitress in Vancouver. Won't be going back
No Dessert Im Full
Can a diner be happier then when he walks into a hip joint and bypasses a dozen people waiting to sit down? No he cant.. 3 perfect spots show up at the bar area and i scoop them like a hawk. Sitting down i proceed to order a pitcher of rocky mountain pilsner and a mans man burger. Burger was great with the deep fried onion strings, bacon, swiss cheese, fries were also good and the spicy pickles were also very good. The wait for the food was tolerable as i was in good company and the ambiance of the semi crowded westside crowd kept me intrigued in the people watching department. Bartender was awesome, he had alot of stories and even ordered us a round of shots before our night was done. All in all an awesome meal and night

Ordinary burger and onion rings. Nothing special

Garlic Fries. Eat these fantastic garlic fries with a loved one because you'll be breathing garlic (fresh!) all day long! addictive!

-----30 Dec, 2011-----

Cheddar sliders. Good enough.. Everything here was good enough. The burgers were just good enough to warent the prices. The fried food was just good enough as to eat it. The parmesan they use for their fries is horrible, they should invest in a microplane and grate on some fresh stuff, for the price I expected more.

There were no milkshakes on the menu and this I feel is an oversight. they also had the hockey game on way to loud. I'm glad we went but I won't be returning any time soon.

Not worth the price. This place seems to be getting really popular and has been on our radar for awhile. We finally had the chance this week to check it out. We tried the Man's Man, Righteous Rib, and Americano. Man's Man was pretty tasty with all the ingredients together. Righteous RIb - the meat in this one was the best. Americano - boring compared to the other two, the fried cheddar plank was not cheesy enough and was more like fried batter. For dessert, we had the Drunken Donuts that comes with Kahlua Nutella, Limoncello and Maple Whisky dips. These donuts were only okay. The lemon taste in the Limoncello was a bit overwhelming. For 12 bucks a burger, I can't say it's worth it and I am not sure if we would give this place another try.
Love Good Food
Unbelievably good burgers!. The BEST burgers I've ever had.
Ever.
Been 2x and am salivating as I write this
I would sooner pay $15 here than $10 anywhere else.

Big Buck Burgers. Well I live right down the street from Romer Burger and I was happy to see the new place in the area until I took a look at the menu and saw how much the burgers where. I can't get over these places in Van that have the nerve to charge over $10 for a burger and fries. I don't care how good they are personally it is a load of BS. I finally had a chance to try their burgers for a cheap price at one of Kits festivals. I do agree that the quality of the burgers where fantastic and If the place was reasonably price I would definitely be a regular but that is simply not the case.

Terrible. Vancouver needs to wake up and realize just because something is trendy, or busy, does not mean a good meal is to be had. Case in point, the north and south sides of 4th between Burrard and Cypress. Between Romers, Trattoria, Chronic Tacos and Noodle Box, we have quite possible some of the most over-hyped, over-blown food in Vancouver. Never have I been let down so many times in such a small area.

But on to Romers specifically. The burgers are awful. Monumentally awful. Catastrophically awful. Ive been here 3 times, having a horrible and expensive experience each and every time. I've posted about Romers before but it bears repeating, as the foodie rubes of Vancouver keep handing over glowing reviews.

1) Horrible service. Burgers take between 20 and 30 minutes, even when they aren't busy. Waitresses are clueless to any questions you may pose to them. The one I had was French-Canadian (I think) and interrupted me while I spoke, brought the wrong beer, and had to be reminded to bring our starter.
2) Meat tastes of nothing, just dry, singed, meat pucks. No seasoning of any kind, and the patties aren't even big enough to fit on the....
3) Brioche bun. Never has there been a more hateful trend in the burger world than the Brioche bun. If Romers ditched these and went for a smaller, softer buns I might not be writing this review. People don't seem to realize that like a sandwich, a burger is only as good as the bread that holds it. What is appealing about a spongey, porous, eggy, sweet bun to hold your burger? The answer is nothing.
4) Finally, they seem to have a phobia of melting the cheese on the burger. Is there no salamander in the kitchen? The burgers appear to be griddled; could they not put a cover over them with a few ice cubes so the cheese melts? I'm being totally honest here, there were 3 small cubes of cheese dotted on my patty, 1/2 melted.....and the top bun is left open as a sort of presentation to what they're serving me, meaning both the cook and the waitress deemed it OK to serve me this cheese flecked burger, for $11.

Save your money and go down 4th to Macdonald, and eat at Cafe Regalade. Best place to eat on the westside, hands down.
Mdk
Dry bun, dry crumbly burger, with a hard ball of fried cheese on top. After I complained they totally ignored our table for the rest of the meal. They never even asked how the meal was! For a restaurant that supposedly specializes in burgers this was incredibly average.
Martha
Great meal- even for a non-meat eater!. Non-meat eaters- don't let the name scare you away! I was very impressed with my meal. I had the portabello veggie stack (lots of grilled veggies between two portabello caps with local goat cheese and a lovely vinaigrette) and a beautifully fresh beet salad. It is rare that a meat-loving spot knows how to make good veggie food! And they have salmon burgers and veggie burgers too which were getting the "thumbs up" at the table next to us.
So how about their specialty, the meat burgers? My husband, who I consider to be the burger expert since it is among his favorite foods, loved his Rodeo burger! The patty was of good quality and well-cooked and the toppings were flavorful and complementary. He looks forward to trying the Man Burger on his next visit.
Kudos to you burger bar for taking the time and effort to make good food for all tastes!

Wish it was better.... It's hard to find the value at Romer's Burger Bar. The burgers come with no sides and are $11+, this is fine if the burgers were amazing. However they're not really amazing.

They are OK and have nice toppings and buns. Like a lot of people say the patties are too small for the buns, over cooked and under seasoned.

The little donuts for dessert are the best item on the menu from what I've had.

The onion rings are good, but they give you a tiny tiny cup of zatziki that doesn't even fit them to dip! This is a huge fail for a $7 order of onion rings. It's almost a joke how little they give you for such huge onion rings. This dish alone is why I am voting that I don't like it. This seems to be the theme of the restaurant, make something good then ruin it with neglect and an inflated price.

Stay away from the wedge salad as it is just ice burg lettuce with little to none of the toppings listed on the menu.

I wish it was better... the location is great, the interior is nice, the service is friendly but the food is not good and it is expensive for what you get.

So damn good. The other place deserves a slap cuz this is the real burger king !

If donald trump ate a hamburger in Vancouver this would be the place he eats it. Best fries ever! Best hamburgers of all time ! Recommend lamb burger.

While I am no man, but I do love men, And I LOOOOOVE the man's man burger. It was so good. I cannot wait for my next stop at Romers.

Yummmmmmm. The room is very cool and the burger are delicious!!!!! I love everything about it!

Fabulous Burgers, Fun Atmosphere. I am so shocked to read the bad reviews of Romer's. I have been eating here since shortly after they opened and I am a huge fan. My favourite burger is the Righteous Rib Burger. I Highly recommend the poutine, and the beet salad. My Mother and I often go for dinner and order two burgers and a mix of fries and salads to share. Ordering a la carte allows us to have exactly the sides we would like, and the delicious little salads are priced very affordably!!

The atmosphere is fun and casual. The servers are friendly, attentive and helpful. The owner/manager is often out and about in the dining room and is also friendly and gracious.

Don't let the nay sayers deter you from trying the yummiest burgers and fries in town!!

Excellent. Tried this one out yesterday with M., and very pleased. Had a mint mango iced tea to start which was delightful and refreshing, M. went for Butternut Squash Salad, I went for Arugula. Both were very good, and with a nice, light citrusy oil dressing. We shared a basket of Fresh Garlic Fries, with Chipotle Mayo, Truffle Oil Mayo, and Gravy. Each was marvellous. M. had the Man's Man Burger, and enjoyed it quite a bit, and I went for the Wicked Deadly Cheeseburger, which I found divine. I mean I knew about goat cheese on a burger, but Stilton? I had no idea - brilliant. M. later noted that the burger patty itself was fairly lean, so was not as juicy as it could have been, and I observed a similar texture, but it was cooked a perfect juicy pink in the middle, and I would prefer a juicy moist than the greasy moist other joints have with fattier meat. Can't wait for next visit!

MMM..burger goodness. I have been here a few times and I think they have the best burgers in town..well, white spot legendary will always have a special place in my heart and Vera's has some good burgers..But, Romer kicks it up a notch. The cheeseburger is exceptional -- the beef patty itself is juicy and full of flavour. They seem to put a twist on each burger, whether it be with the cheese they use, a special mayo or sauce. Even the fries are tweaked out..Awesome place..

Very salty , every dish we tried! Staff was great

I love that Romer's can do any burger with a vegetarian patty. The portabella (veg) was so delicious we had to go back again two nights later, and our friends really liked their salmon burger. The fries are fantastic - though this is one of those rare places where the regular potato variation surpasses the yam. Service was incredibly slow the second night, but the first night when we were trying to get to a movie, the server made great recommendations and got us through with time to spare.

2nd worst dining experience ever.. Bunch of us went on a surprisingly busy night. Was told the wait would be quite long. Fair enough. 35 minutes later and a half dozen empty tables, we were still not seated. Was finally informed that their POS was broken and that they couldn't take food orders for a least a little while longer. Thanks for the heads up 35 minutes ago. We should've left at this point. Shortly after we were seated but was not served or even noticed. Some time later we were finally given some water and menus; however, we could still not order food yet. 30 minutes later we were "allowed" to order food. Can't anyone use a pen and paper anymore? I had the man's man burger with sea salt fries. My burger had way too much mustard and was slightly overcooked. Couldn't taste anything but beefy mustard in my burger. Fries were respectable. Mango mint iced tea was also respectable. The lack of customer service, and the way the management handled (or didn't handle) the broken POS situation really made the meal bitter and unpleasant. They should've just closed the restaurant to new patrons if they couldn't handle a broken POS system. Never again.

Where is the Foie Gras Pate??. I took my sister and my mom for a girl's day out to Kitslano for some good facial and lunch. We stopped by Romer's for the first time for the highly anticipated Kobe Classic.
The fresh garlic fries were really good and when the burgers came out we could not wait to take a bite. I ordered the Kobe and it did NOT look like one of the pictures taken for Urbanspoon. I thoroughly looked through the burger to search for the Foie Gras. Where did it go? At first I thought I read the ingredients incorrectly on the menu so didn't think twice before taking a bite. As I was munching in half way through, still looking for the pate, something did not feel right. I paid $20 for a burger with a small Kobe pattie and overcooked mushroom. It did not have onion strings nor the liver. I did not want to make a big deal as my family enjoyed their meals. I do not eat burgers often so when I do, I want the best in the city. Would I come here again? Only if my family wants to. Would I recommend this place for someone else? I am unsure. I'll give it another try and see if it is a hit or miss. If the second round doesn't cut it, here I come Red Robbins.

Ultimate Kobe Classic. The closest you'll get to the Fleur Burger 5000 here in Vancouver! Brioche bun, Kobe beef, truffle sauce, and foei gras!!! Absolutely amazing....
Grizzlewhisker
Loud, overpriced for what you get, and they kept taking my food away before I was done. Food was tasty but overall I don't get the appeal.

Exceptional Gourmet Burgers. I had very high expectations after reading so many reviews by foodies. I had a Rodeo Star Burger and boy did it live up to the hype. Each bite was mouth savoring delicious. This place is easily my favourite new burger joint.

Strange how so many people can have quite the different experience, all I can say is don't write this place off if you have a bad experience the first time. I have only been there once so far and my experience was nothin short of amazing, the service was good and be food was incredible and I am a burger snob I have done alot of research into what makes a good burger and have done a lot of experimenting myself and Romers knows what it takes too, I had the mans man, the bun held up very well and the meat was slightly pink and juicy. The fries were vey tasty, the pickles amazing and man those doughnuts are to die for but the real star is the nurse, simply incredible. Oh and so done complained that the burgers were too fat and he cheese on the poutine was cold and unmelted, guess what my friend that's what a burger should be and that's how the curds are supposed to come on poutine.

This was a pretty cool place to go have a burger. Nice job setting the space up, with big comfy booths or a bar to saddle-up to. The burgers are great, with lots of options, and they taste good. I like the monthly special burger to keep the options fresh. This place can come across as a bit of an uppity Kits almost sports bar, but the food was great and so was the service. Good beer selection too. Things are a la carte though, so if you want fries or salad, order them separately. Sounds like it might cost more that way, but our bill is usually quite reasonable.
Latte
Not All That Expected great, got ok. Mushroom burger was good, garlic sea salt fries came with no sea salt. Apple pie a la mode which is "baked every day" came cold and was $8!! Had 3 bites and we were done. Coffee first served cold. Would I return? Likely not, actually, no.
Anatole Aesthete
Here's the Beef, Dude. A sports bar cum burger joint, with burgers with attitude. Beats Vera's Meat hands down, but the fries could do with an upgrade, for sure. Veggie burger rocks and the sauces and so on are contemporary. A bit on the pricey side, yeah, but then the ambiance is better than its competitors. Don't expect Nirvana and you are likely to come away with a pleased palate. Very good service on a rainy day lunch.
Alan
Overall good. Went on a wed. night and it was full....always a good sign.
ordered the 3some for an appy...it was ok...raw garlic on the olives a bit much. using already processed things as olives and pickles and trying to re-marinate....could of used more imagination.
Had the short rib burger with fries as a side...i thought it was well done...burger could have been a little more juicy. I found it to be a bit dry. Was craving that messy hunch n munch style burger.
Drunken doughnuts for finisher...i thought these were a home run...awesome.
overall...it was a good experience with great service. i will be back

Pretty Good, Not Great. Hubby and I hit this place after a piano recital (torture) and were starving. Decided to try this new spot. We really liked the decor, it was pretty empty for a Thursday night, but it would prolly have a nice vibe on a weekend. Again, like others say, not the best value, fries are extra and burgers are pricey for their size. They are not overly huge, they are pretty tasty and well made but definately not large, with fries you are lookign at about $18. Out of the 2 burger, the pork one shone, it was tasty, fresh and light. The bbq burger was small and average. I enjoyed the fries though, and homemade gravy. It was good, but would not rush back unless in area.

Stuffed. Eight of us met at Romers with serious eating intentions. The sporty, booth filled restaurant didn't disappoint.

We met late, so we were able to grab a table that accommodated our entire group. The burgers arrived in quick time - large browned brioche buns stuffed with all manner of burger permutations. The Rodeo came sporting bacon, onion, bbq sauce and received the thumbs up from my hubby. I opted for the portabello burger - and really - not a burger - more like a stack of roasted veggies - but not too bad.

And then on to mini donuts - homemade, tiny and thick with sugary glaze - and a choice of three dipping sauces. People raved about the limoncello, and the hazelnut chocolate, but I only dipped into the rum maple sauce.

That's what I want for breakfast - every morning please.

Romer's Burger Bar. I have been to Romer's 3 times, all in a week. The first time a group of us went their to eat. I didn't feel like a burger so had the chicken wings with the gorgonzola sauce. They were fantastic,

My second time, I had the Man's Man burger. The patty was cold and the bun was stale. I did not complain because the owner was serving me and quite friendly. I didn't want to make him feel bad. I paid the bill and left.

I had written this place off, when a group of friends wanted to go try this place out. I did not tell them about my experience and went back again.

This time I ordered the Magic Mushroom burger,. It was to die for. The patty was perfect and the bun fresh, What an experience. I not only had my worst burger in this place, but my best burger. It was incredible.

The owner was there and recognized me which was a nice touch. I told him how excellent the Mushroom burger was an how terrible my Man's Man burger was,. He mentioned that I was happy that I told him and asked why I did not say anything when in earlier in the week. After explaining that I did not want to hurt his feelings, he gave me the Mushroom burger for free!!

This is an awesome burger restaurant. This is our own Bobby Flay type burger bar!

Not worth the time. Got there and was seated immediately by the host (owner?) who used the exact same smalltalk for everyone who arrived afterwards. Seemed a little insincere to me, but it may just be nitpicking on my part. There were, I think about 5 other people there at the time so they were not busy at all. Ordered a Man's Man burger (seriously, who invented these names?) , basically a bacon cheeseburger, and poutine then waited almost 30 minutes for my order to arrive while the wait staff and the kitchen staff stood around doing seemingly not much at all. So after half hour of waiting the food arrived. The burger was good, not spectacular but definitely not worth what they charge. The poutine was badly made (with cold fries and cold unmelted curds) and was sent back immediately. I usually eat when I'm hungry. Making hungry people wait an excessive amount of time for food that is so bad it needs to be sent back is unacceptable.

In total an unhappy dining experience. I will not be going back.

Meh.... So my experience with Romer's started off poorly. I had just got home from work and decided that I wanted take out. When I called to place my order I was asked for my credit card number, when I was going to pay cash. When I asked about this, I was told curtly that it was standard procedure. I understand the rational behind this policy, however I find it kind of insulting. I am not going to call and order food if I am not going to go get it. Asdie from that, the food was better than bad. I had the rib burger and the truffle oil fries. Both were decent. The burger was dry but tasted good. The braised short rib was the best part, but the Gorgonzola goo was slightly off putting. The fries tasted good but were under seasoned. Honestly though, if I am going to pay $20 for a burger with fries I would much rather go across the street and get the greasy mess of awesomeness that is the burger at Refuel ( for $19.00 it comes with insane poutine).

It was ok, we might go back. I had the rib burger - and I was sorry that I didn't add lettuce and tomato - very heavy meat. Didn't like the (brioche) bun that much. Good crispy asian slaw. Good sea salt fries.

My sweetie liked the Magic Mushroom burger, but hated the strong garlic aftertaste that plagued her for many hours. We also had the drunken doughnuts and they were disappointing, so we only had a couple each. They were super greasy.

Bad turkey burger,, gave me the runs... I went there today and had the Turkey burger ,, as soon as I got it I could smell something funny about it.... and when I tasted it, it tasted funny. I thought i would give a chance, maybe it was a certain spice or something different becasue it was organic meat and ate it,,,, . Big mistake.... Since I didnt eat anything all day I new it had to be the burger that made me sick.Just be wary of the turkey burger.

Since we were a few beers deep we were quite hangry from the get go. We started with some Hot Spicy Nuts (tee hee!) which were toasted with some standard spices. We also ordered the Voodoo Meatballs along with the Island Red Chilli Chicken. The meatballs were delicious and fairly sizable, the spicy voodoo sauce really making it for me. I usually love me some chilli chicken but their take on it with the pineapple just didn’t quite work for me. I’m a little weird when it comes to pineapple though since I only like it in desserts, but I was willing to give it a shot anyways. On to the main course, the burger. I generally love hot sauces and the Diablo sauce in The Chorizodor seemed like the easy choice for me. My friend ordered the Man’s Man Burger and asked for a side of the Diablo sauce as well which they were happy to provide. We also decided to split an order of onion rings because we’re a couple of growing boys and you can’t have a burger without some fries or onion rings. My burger was delicious and met an untimely demise.

Romer’s Burger Bar, located a block away from Burrard and 4th Avenue, is a hip and modern burger restaurant, with a lively atmosphere in the Kitsilano neighborhood. Think of it kind of like a Cactus Club; Romer’s has the same type of vibe.

One night we were craving a juicy burger and fries – we did a quick search and found Romer’s Burger Bar. And wow… do they do burgers justice...

I’ve wanted to go to this restaurant for many years after a friend posted a picture. I never had a chance until now to go to Romer’s because of its location. I usually end up going to a Red Robin’s when I want to have have a burger in a restaurant with service. If I’m in Calgary, I hit up Peter’s Drive-Thru for a burger and their awesome onion rings. I have digressed. I have mixed feelings. I would go back to Romer’s if ot

Another week and another entry into our search for Vancouver’s best burgers! The longer this process drags on, the further away I start to feel from finding that elusive perfect burger. After last week’s visit to The Colony, I felt like things were starting to get back on track. While Colony’s burgers are nowhere near the best, they were tasty and would satisfy anyone’s basic burger craving. For this week’s review, we decided to go to Romer’s Burger Bar’s original Kitsilano location.
A meal at Romer's would definitely not be complete without an order of their popular Drunken Donuts! Donuts are probably one of my most favourite sweets/desserts/guilty indulgences (if you must...) and to have them served with a trio of dipping sauces? Score! I strongly enjoyed all 3 sauces: kahlua nutella, limoncello and the maple whiskey. In comparison to the famous mini donuts from the PNE (although the ones at Roger's Arena are pretty good too), the donuts at Romer's were crunchier and similar to a cake donut texture, as opposed to the softer and flufflier texture of the ones sold at the PNE. I love both. Afterall, a donut is a donut...is a donut. Any donut is a good donut in my opinion (hehe!)

Romer’s Burger Bar is a small chain burger joint in Vancouver. This one is particular is the Yaletown location in Downtown Vancouver. It is decent in size with a nice modern atmosphere and has a nice patio area as well. As the name suggest, they specialize in burgers and it does not disappoint.

Romer’s Burger Bar is the creation of Executive Chef Jim Romer. If you’re looking for a gourmet burger, this place is worth checking out. They have some pretty unique items on their menu as well, including their famous drunken mini doughnuts. They also carry a decent selection of craft beers on tap.
