Review Johnnie Fox's Irish Pub - Vancouver

Johnnie Fox is a great place to hang out or meet with friends. Friendly staff and place that speaks of Ireland. The Prime Rib Yorkies and Everyone Else's Wings are very tasty. Good selection of beers on tap too. Will definitely be back with friends and family.

Just finished eating here it was pretty good but very pricey like much more than I would normally pay and is why I feel the food wasn't really worth it. We had the grilled cheese and tomato soup, the prime rib Yorkies, and the bison blue cheese burger. The Yorkie were pretty authentic tasting definitely going along with the Irish theme and I thought they were well made the horse radish was really good too. The blue cheese burger was big and filling and pretty tasty and came with a side sauce that really highlighted the meal it was so tasty I was dipping my grilled cheese in it the whole time. As for the grilled cheese and tomato soup it was quite bland for my taste. I really needed that sauce that came with the burger as the tomato soup just didn't have enough for me but it was warm and filling and tasted like they used fresh tomatoes in it and you could tell it was made here it was nice I think if it came with a dipping sauce that would really complete it as a meal for people who like extra flavor. The service was a little slow though waiter wasn't really around even though there wasn't many people there. That's why I gave a 3.

Visited Johnnie Fox’s last night for dinner and drinks with some friends, and was really disappointed with the food and some of the servers. I ordered the salt and malt vinegar wings, but what I got were plain breaded wings. Dips were meh too. The curry cheese chips were terrible!!!! The bar staff know how to pour a good pint of Guinness though, which is why they didn’t get 1 star. If you’re going to charge such high prices for food, you need to make it good! Service wasn’t great either; some staff were nice but others were just downright rude. Darcy is probably the worst server I’ve ever dealt with. Suffice it to say, we will be sticking to Donnellan’s and Shamrock Alley in the future.

Great venue but until they embrace the full concept of Happy Hour, we will continue to take our business to all the near by pubs, bars, and restaurants in the area. I hope they see the wisdom of that soon or they may be the next failure and that would be 😥 tragic!

This is a great Irish Pub! Food was great, drinks were on point, and the servers were kind and quick. The only thing that would have made this perfect would be if they hadn't run out of dry cider for crown floats! Might be time to bring one more on board!

Not bad, good place for a fun evening as they are one of the few places in town that actually create a lively evening atmosphere with live music, bar service and standing up between tables. Food is also okay, poutine with beans is decent, although had another dish that was pretty average (think it was the veggie pie). Drinks seem to be on the expensive side which is strange given the type of place. Guinness for example seems to be the most expensive I've seen it across the whole city, over $10 a pint. They also do quiz nights on Wednesday although can be a bit hard to hear questions/answers

This is your typical Vancouver Irish pub. The decor is pretty much what you'd expect with wood paneling and all. I was there on a Saturday evening, so the place was quite crowded and there was a live 1-man band. The musician was decent, but between him and the crowd it was very loud. Loud to the extent that my ears hurt and my throat was raw from having to yell. Pretty good beer selection and I appreciated that the food menu had things like a Full Irish Breakfast. As for the quality of the food, the fish and chips were pretty good, but the cottage pie was not. Friends who ordered the cottage pie wondered if it had been microwaved, which is not a good sign. The tater tot nachos were ok, but arrived after the mains, which was weird.

Went for Wednesday night trivia, which was lots of fun! Had an overall good experience until it came time to pay for our bills. Our server had gone home for the evening so the manager was cashing us out. He brought over the wrong bills, overcharging us by MANY drinks. We politely brought this up to him and he got heated, very quickly. Started accusing us of not wanting to pay our bills, that we were too drunk to know how many drinks we had, and was pushing his iPad/card machine in front of us. I have never been treated so poorly by a bar, let alone the manager. He ended up getting so angry he stormed off and told us to leave and never come back. Don't worry, we wont be! Would not recommend to anyone.

If you want to go to the closest thing to an actual Irish pub, here's the place. Got word from an Irish youth that this was the most authentic Irish pub experience he had found to date. Give this place a shot. It might surprise you.

Great Irish pub, great with a group, that's mostly what I can recall. Can't say much of the food because I haven't had a lot of it here. The Guinness is hearty, no complaints on the service, love the cosy booths.

Wow, what a bad experience. Food took over an hour to arrive and was terrible. Maybe it was an off night, but really, how do you run a restaurant and not know that at around 7pm, you might have some dinner customers? Clearly the gimmick here is that it's an Irish pub, so if you want Irish and British brews, you can get that here, but don't come for the food!

I love this pub!!! Best Guinness in downtown Vancouver. It is so cozy and the food is delicious! Staff is friendly and the service is quick! 👌❤️

Decent place and good prices. Sometimes the wait staff can be a bit curt, though. During happy hours, their pints cost $6 + taxes (judging from other reviews, the prices must have gone up).

Really good Guiness. Stopped in for a Guinness and it was Happy hour BONUS 20 oz pints at $5.00 ( plus tax)
Friendly waitress really good atmosphere . Small and not much ambiance. Good Irish pub but a little too small for groups and lacks attractive women. Hey guys, get thinner ones and put a kilt on them we are willing to spend the money if you invest in your establishment

Food has changed recently?. Spent a very enjoyable evening this week tucked into one of the wooden booths in the back. That said, the drinks list is short and very basic. And the bar was out of one of the only 3 wine options.

My friend was a huge fan of this place a few years ago when she lived nearby, and she raved about the tasty Irish pub food. To be blunt, it was pretty mediocre this time. Food service gravy was liberally used and it seems like the kitchen might just be a heat & serve operation- disappointing given the prices.

Went for lunch and immediately were greeted by the waiter. Very friendly, quick service. Food was fantastic, went with the special and was not disappointed. Home cut fries!

Great place for lunch!. My boyfriend and I wandered in here when we only had an hour for lunch and the server was very welcoming and said he could get us in and out in an hour. I had the veggie sandwich and potato bacon soup, it was perfect for a rainy day! I think my boyfriend had a burger and he also really enjoyed it. I decided to go back with my ESL students before we went to the aquarium. It was Friday and they had fish and chips on special. All of the students who ordered the special really liked it. I had the veg sandwich again, still delicious. Both times the servers were very nice and attentive. I will definitely go back to this place!

Cozy, perfect pub. We went here for my daughter's 19th birthday, just a mother/daughter night, and loved it! from the perfect, very authentic pub decor (dark, small and full of regulars) to the great service and food, we thought it was awesome.
The manager went out of his way to greet and speak with us (we stood out amongst all the regulars & we were the only ones there not drinking beer! lol!), made sure we were enjoying ourselves and our food/drinks. This will surely be our pub of choice everytime we're back downtown.

Not to be mistaken for the original in Dublin.

Plum Snug. There's no "Love it" vote, but if there was, I would give it to this place. Great atmosphere, classic menu that always pleases. No finer Irish bistro than Johnnie Fox's Irish Snug. This is my regular for dinner, and lunch when I'm in town.

I felt like going to a pub for supper tonight. Johnnie Fox's Irish Snug on Granville was just a couple blocks from my hotel so I thought I'd check it out. It's not a big place and it was crowded ... I liked the vibe. I was craving wings and ordered them hot with Ranch sauce. There were 13 to a serving. They were small and overcooked ... I wouldn't order them again. So I liked the pub and would go back for a pint or two, I wouldn't get the wings again.

Alright, let's break down the name of this place. Who is Johnnie Fox and what is an Irish Snug? As far as I know (or what Google told me) Johnnie Fox is not a who, but rather a where. There's a pub to this exact name in Glencullen, a village in Ireland…established all the way back in 1798. For those history buffs, that's the Irish Rebellion. Well, one of many rebellions the Irish had. Apparently they liked to fight. A lot. Goes well with the Guinness and whiskey I suppose? Now what's a " snug "? "…typically a small, very private room with access to the bar that had a frosted glass external window… a higher price was paid for beer in the snug and nobody could look in and see the drinkers….for patrons who preferred not to be seen in the public bar. Ladies would often enjoy a private drink in the snug in a time when it was frowned upon for ladies to be in a pub. The local police officer would nip in for a quiet pint, the parish priest for his eveni
