Review Momo Sushi - Vancouver

Su R c
Very accommodating and helpful staff. The place is tiny but clean. The 🍣 sushi🍣 here are prepared very promptly. The taste is great and prices are reasonable than their downtown outlets.I had their sushi party tray A on a day and party tray B the other. Was really satisfied by the taste and the service.

Cheap and delicious Sushi! Not the best of the Best But for the price you’re paying it’s decent. It was about $12 a person for enough food. They DONT TAKE VISA/MasterCard only cash or debit. Parking can be difficult Washroom available in the back

I was so impressed with the salad.. the portion is so generous, and I love the salad dressing. I cannot tell what kind of flavor it was, but it was definitely tasty. However, the Salmon sashimi was really thinly sliced.. and Salmon Don was mostly rice and few pieces of salmon were like decoration... and the rice was not tasty. It was bit undercooked. I trusted the previous photos on Google map, and the Salmon sashimi seemed really big. I am willing to order something else next time.

We love Momo Sushi! Not only is it a close walk from our place, the staff is lovely and the food is delicious and quite affordable for the quality and quantity. It's our favourite local spot for takeout (to the beach) or dine in at the great little space. I could eat that oshi every single day :)

SO GOOD!!! So many rolls and such a good price!! Everyone working and creating this magic was exceptional! 10 STARS

It was one of the best sushi I had at Vancouver. A solid 10/10! And the soup was to die for. Would highly recommend to get the sexy salmon roll.
Evan Alexander
They weren't the tightest or prettiest rolls to look at but they were some of the best veg rolls I've had in a long time!!

Amazing food, lovely service, great value. Proper tiny little place. We sat at the one outdoor (covered) table. When I asked for the toilet ("washroom"), the waiter grabbed a key to open a gate down the side of the building and pointed me to a door in the side of the building, down an alley, I expected the worst but it was actually warm and clean in there! The hot soup given ahead of our food was delicious and the sushi was outstanding, and *not* covered in mayo!

SKIP MOMO...better options abound.
We had high expectations for sushi here, based on trip advisor reviews. Our experience was ok, but not great. Firstly, the atmosphere here is a bit of a dive. Nothing feels clean. Upon entry, you're greeted by a fishy smell...something we try to avoid with sushi. The tables, booth seats, etc. all had a film and remnants of others' meals. Oddly, your water is placed on the table in a reusable plastic bottle, which you must assume is clean and fresh. Based on the restaurant's overall lack of cleanliness, we didn't drink any. Another oddity: you need a key for a next-door bathroom, which means you're handling the potentially dirty bathroom key on the way back to the restaurant (presumably AFTER washing your hands), which doesn't inspire confidence to sit back down and eat sushi. While the food was ok, we thought everything, from edamame to tempura to sushi was marginal. Service marginal too... As we read from other reviewers, our favorite part of dinner at Momo was the fact that it didn't cost very much. In our opinion, it wasn't worth more, and we would not go back or recommend to others.

This place is great! It's incredible value and a fun little establishment. The avacado was so creamy it was perfect. The Mega rolls are so tasty. We actually ordered twice! Would definitely go back...

Everything is decent, but possibly below average for the cost. Occasionally Some strange flavouring choices as though they’ve run out of the usual thing and tried to replace it with the wrong sauce.
Andrea Campbell
Great sushi. Very fresh. Amazing and friendly service. Our bill for 3 of us was less than $50 and we left feeling stuffed. They were also very accommodating of my egg and gluten allergy and I had several options to choose from. We will definitely be back!

I chose Momo Sushi for two reasons: first, Momo used to be a nickname of mine in high school, and second, it was nearby and available when I had a hankering for sushi. My luck with random restaurant stops continues!. I entered the sushi joint right around the time when they opened. It is a small space and has a communal bench set-up along one side of the wall and short bar stool set-up alongside the other outer wall. Had it been packed you could be rubbing elbows with folks, but if you are into meeting people then why not?

Good service, good food. It is a good place to go.
The place is a little bit small but with such a good service that the fact that the place is small is forgotten easily. If you are close to Stanley park and you have Sushi craves is a nice place to go.

It takes alot for me to leave a poor review, but my take-out was atrocious. Ordered some rolls, which were mediocre. It was the Chicken Don (teriyaki chicken on rice), though, that made me decide never to return to this place. It came with salad, of which I got old lettuce with reddish colouration around the edges, meaning it's old and has been sitting for a long time. Included with the salad was a big chunk of the lettuce head's root. Not appetizing.
Then there was the 'teriyaki' chicken. Maybe they were out of chicken and only had some left that had been prepared and not sold, but it was weird. It was a few pieces of some kind of buffalo breaded chicken strip (wtf?!) and then a few pieces of dry-as-can-be, chewy-as-can-be teriyaki chicken. I could only eat two pieces it was so old and chewy. So bad and hard that a dog wouldn't even be able to swallow it. Absolutely the worst teriyaki chicken I've ever had. To top it all off they put it on sushi rice (seasoned with rice vinegar and possibly additional sugar). Unbelievable. Did they just have that buffalo breaded chicken leftover from an employees lunch that they brought in?? It's definitely not on the menu. So weird. So the salad was off, the two chicken types were both awful/inedible and the rice, the simplest thing to get right, was meant for making maki, not in a donburi. It wasn't expensive, so I wasn't expecting it to be amazing, but this was atrocious. Do NOT recommend!

Came for lunch, ordered chirashi Don, portion was kind of small, fish quality is actually ok. Salmon & tuna being the best, while other fish mediocre.
Davey Hamada
Ok so the food was not very good but the kicker was that the unagi nigiri had a fishbone in it and I had to go to ER to get it removed. Never returning again.

The portions are huge! The staff were really friendly and sushi was amazing. Wish the Miso soup came out before our meal so might just ask for that next time. Everything is served on styrofoam plates and in little paper cups but as if we cared when it was so cheap. We only spent $30 for 3 of us and were absolutely stuffed after.
Jenna Earnshaw
Saw mouse in kitchen about to eat the crab that was just left out open over night. Really unimpressed and grossed out by that! Would never go back.

the food is amazing and i loved going there to eat, but we have a serious waitress problem. Some of the waitresses need to be trained or go back to school, they shouldn't be working there.

I brought my family there to eat (5 of us) and one of the waitresses asked me to split up my family to sit on two separate tables while the 2 guests in front of us were brought in to a table for 4. There were few empty tables with 4 and she kept insisting us to split up. I told her we can bring one more chair to sit together and she said no. I gave up and left.

As much as I loved the food there, some of the waitresses need to have common sense for business.

Excelente restaurante japonés calidad - precio.
Increíble calidad de la comida, sobre todo en e salmón en cualquiera de sus formas.
Por 10 $ puedes comer hasta no poder más...
Muy recomendable.

Go for lunch, try some sushi, just say NONO to MOMO’s.

Never again ... no, no to Momo .... Ordered in a rush to get there and have everything religious centered (bible versus in window and JESUS LOVES YOU on chopsticks). Very warm restaurant and poor gal was by herself to man a couple tables! My avo in my avo and salmon roll was brown by the time I picked it up. Their yam roll was greasy with mayo. Yuck ! Won't be going back. Sticking to my mainstay, Sushi Mart ! :)

MO MO Sushi WARNING !. I found bones in my sushi while eating it, not once but two different pieces had a bone in them.
That wasn't cool and, as a matter of fact extremely dangerous as friend spent five hours in emerge. as surgeons painstakingly tried to remove a sushi bone lodged in his throat.

Disappointed. I checked the reviews and this place looked like a good place to have sushi with my son.

Ordered the Bento Box with teriyaki salmon. It came with a salad that was wilted and discoloured. The salmon looked very clumsily put together although there was a fairly big portion. The sushi also came in big portions although some of the tuna tasted a little off.

The cleanliness of the place could be improved. I would not give my recommendation to eat here.

Best deal in town. I have no time for these whiny snobs who complain about service in a place this small and cheap. I have been eating here for years. In most cultures the customer is not the centre of the known universe. Anyways there is a thing of green tea where you can fill your own cup.

Order box A for $6.25 and you're set. Food is fresh with generous portions. Sometimes the order is wrong, sometimes the servers don't care. Deal with it.
Jean3028
The dirtiest restaurant I have ever been. I ordered sashimi yesterday and found that they even don't clean the table for the new customer. The waitress kept serving food on the dirty table without cleaning the table for the new customer. So shocking. They deal with raw fish. How can we trust whether they handle the raw fish in hygienic way? So cheap but THE DIRIEST restautran by Korean...Also I wonder what the Vancouver city hall food inspector is doing......

Yummy and Different. This sushi place was a surprise. The udon was huge and came to us in a little pot. The gyoza were delicious and different than I am used to - I guess they are not just heated from frozen like other places. The chicken teriyaki was larger than expected and came with a little bowl of rice. The sushi rolls and sashimi were excellent. We ordered a lot of food! Service was great even though the place was pretty busy. We will definitely be back as this is only a block from my girlfriend's mom's place.
Wceline35
MoMo is an no no. Dirty, slow and the order was incorrect. Don't eat here.
Kate
Terrible place, very small and dirty. She seated us at the table that wasn't cleaned and didn't clean it till we were ordering. Then we had to wait for our order for more then 40 minutes. The food was ok but when we asked her for tea she brought us hot water with nothing like tea in it. Plus to all that she barely spoke any English

Fantastic Sushi at a Great Price!. Located just off Robson, this place is a small hole in the wall with maybe three tables.

We looked at the menu outside: drawn by the cheap pricing we decided to give it a try. There was not much room inside though and it seemed pretty busy.

Our friend ordered a bento box for 5.99 - it came with a salad, chicken teriyaki with some rice, 3 pieces of cali roll and 3 pieces of nigiri. We, on the other hand, ordered a bunch of nigiri (tamago, ikura, salmon, toro - our fav. of the night, chopped scallop, tai) and a Philadelphia roll. They were good size sushi with just the right amount of rice. The fish were fresh. They topped off one of the sushi with a touch of gomae - (some on the salmon and some on the tuna). Chopped scallop was finished with some sesame on top and a small piece of lettuce. Sushi was presented nicely on the dish.

Complimentary dishes - miso soup (with a couple strands of udon) - not overly salty like most places, with a hint of spiciness in it. A special roll - with cucumber wrapped on the outside topped with cooked tuna and a bit of honey mustard. Tasted great!

Service: Quick. Nice.

Very small place.

Great little sushi place. Very good quality sushi. Huge piece of raw fish on the sushi. Very tasty california roll. Very decent pricing for the bento boxes.

Busy for a Tuesday night, but short staffed and service was slow. 5 tables who sat down after us (a table of 2) got their orders a long while before we did and we had only ordered a few rolls and soup. Sushi wasn't great, but it wasn't "bad" either. Tables weren't wiped between settings and glasses weren't super clean.
Yarivk9
Decent sushi, large portions. You would not leave this place hungry. They are definitely not stingy when it comes to portion size, which makes it great value. This is my goto place when I am hungry. Sushi quality is very decent.
Semiley
Dinner Box A. I wish there were two pieces of deep fried gyoza.

Good sushi at a very good price!. Lunch service can get really busy so I always try to come here around 11:30 to beat the rush. Great combos with great prices! Definitely recommend to come with a co-worker for a lunch meeting.

Long waits during lunch, terrible.. I have tried their other location on Denman, and was looking for some sushi for lunch...

Ordered a Philadelphia and Dynamite roll, it took around 20 minutes to get my food, and it was soggy. You can get better quality sushi for the same price somewhere else.

They need to do orders by name or something, as people who ordered after me received their food first.

Definitely not "Authentic Japanese" or whatever they advertise, it's just not tasty.

Horrible service, mediocre borderline acceptable sushi. Was early to run my late errand Friday evening and wanted sushi after working out. Was reminded of momo sushi because I had it on Robson at the newest location, sushi was good. BUT, yes there is a but. I went to the momo sushi on denman West end @ 10:30pm with a few tables, and I order my take out. Super duper slow service and the patrons before me were complaining about slow service and how they wanted their food packed up but the two waitresses standing around didn't do anything. Waited for maybe 20 or so minutes, which is very long considering what I ordered. I only ordered two masago nigiri sushi, 1 order of maki combo and 1 negitoro cone. I would not come back here, at least to this location ever again unless I'm desperate. Go up the cross street to sushi mart instead and have friendly, fresh sushi instead.

Horrible place! The sushi .... Horrible place!
The sushi is alright. But service is SO HORRIBLE AND SO SLOW! So soo slow. Ridiculous
Van_freshair
SushiLover. This sushi place is really not up to standard! The presentation is not good! The ingredients are not fresh! I once had California roll there and the avocado they used was rotten. Not to mention the services is always slow! I definately will not recommend this place to my friends.
Zippy
A cheap eat, a tad bland. The restaurant is very informal, almost a canteen atmosphere. I liked this as it made you feel comfortable.

Service was prompt and we were served tea almost immediately upon being seated.

We had a couple of boxes and a side dish, which were OK. Nothing overly exciting or flavoursome but the price was good. Whether flavour should be lost at the expense of value is another matter.

If you have nowhere else to go and are not wanting to spend a fortune then worth a shot, but don't expect to be amazed.

Watch out for take out orders that you phone in. I phoned in ahead of time for a take out order. for the second time in a row they didn't actually place the order. i had to wait there for them to make it. the waitresses didn't seem to care too much.

good food but this is getting annoying. they ask you for the name, but never put the order in the system. fix this and this is a good place to eat. decent size for decent prize.
Dirar
I simply love this place. Whenever I visit Vancouver, I have to come here. It's the best and cheapest place you can go to. I would pay 30 buck's for me and my wife to get really full while I would pay maybe 70 in calgary for the same quality. This place is simply amazing!

Great value all around. I will only eat sushi at Japanese-run restaurants so you can take my review as gospel. These guys are fantastic all-round, especially when it comes to a restaurant whose peak times are primarily lunch. Tasty and fresh food all the time, clean restaurant, great and fast service, very convenient location. Will always promote this place.

Bad service!. I usually go to MOMO on Robson, but I work in Shaw Tower. I was excited that there was a MOMO in gas town, I ordered some sushi to go. Came there to pick up my sushi, was talking to a sushi chef. Telling them that they should update their menus online for Special roll (urbanspoon), the waitress who was grabbing my order say we don't have a online website in a rude tone. And the most important thing before I left I make sure if there is soy sauce, she say it in a rude tone there is a cup of soy sauce in there. But it turn out is tempera sauce! Never gonna go there for dine in, if you want to eat at MOMO. Eat on Robson and Denman, they have 2 locations. But I find is the best service, and at least they care what you think. Gastown MOMO is really bad!!!!!
Izzy
SO much food!!. I ordered this bowl of rice,
and it was over-flowing!
my gosh was it filling!
couldnt even finish half of my bowl!
AND it was yummy!

Great cheap sushi...3 visits in 2 weeks. Have been in Canada for more than 2 weeks (vacation and work) so eating out is getting pretty pricey. Found this place and have returned with others 3 times in last 2 weeks. Sashimi is generously cut (about 3x the thickness of what we get in Melbourne), tempura nice too. Order the bento boxes, they are the best value. I think I got box c at $9.95, miso, rice, teriyaki chicken, california rolls, sashimi, salad and other stuff (and free tea).
Isabella
Weird. When I ordered Chicken Teriyaki, they served what is known in Japanese cuisine as Chicken Karaage (fried chicken). When I pointed out that this wasn't teriyaki, they said "this is our chicken teriyaki." I don't think this is quite fair. When one orders lasagna, you shouldn't get spaghetti and be told it's "our lasagna", y'know?
Jennyfer Cassar
Cheap and fast. A good option for sushi in gastown. Our food came out quickly and was well presented. Generous sashimi portions and very fairly priced. The rolls were a big too big in my opinion but you do get lots for the price. The beef udon was hot but the broth could have used more flavor, it did satisfy my craving though. Friendly service.

I heard so many negative comments about this place, but after dinner there yesterday, I love it! I had the COmbo C? i think? and for 13 bucks, i got so much food, and ontop of that, everything tasted good!
The service was great too, and it was packed with people!
I def recommend this place!
Andrea McCormick
Found this place through urbanspoon while out in Vancouver for a conference. If I lived in the city, I would be here ALL THE TIME. Not much for atmosphere, but they more than make that up in big, super cheap, super fresh pieces of sushi. So good!!
Jeff Toews
This is a "fast food" sushi restaurant, so If you think McDonalds is good quality, you will like this restaurants. There are better options nearby.
Azfoodie
The seating is ok...no interior design whatsoever..prolly due to the location of the store...

Foodwise...sashimi was unsurprising and boring....definitely not the freshest fish i have tasted....i dunno if the sushi chef was tired or whatever, but the sashimi was not cut...simply a chunk of meat on the serving dish....the fish has to be cut by us into three smaller pieces before i can fit it in my mouth....not recommending this place to other tourists...better have jap food in vancouver instead
Ricolo
Don't order Gyoza from here. They are soggy and disgusting. While a ate my sushi roll I swallowed something hard and gross. Yikes
Karen McCullough
Wow! What a surprise!. My husband has been here before for lunch, as he works in the area. He said it was the cheapest sushi in town. Usually, that doesn't necessarily mean good, but whoa! It was surprisingly good! We got two sushi combos and it cost about $13. So much sushi! And it was really good!
Lena
Decent. Not high-end sushi, but decent for the price. Servers aren't hard to flag down, it's clean enough and the combos are good deal. The sashimi was not cut properly on one of my visits, but it doesn't bother me too much. It did taste a bit frozen though...
Olecia
Horrible service - careless staff. I walked into the place for lunch. It was raining outside, and the stairs were wet. I fell down 3 stairs....my friends helped me and I felt ok to eat lunch there. Food was average.
The surprising part was that not one staff member approached me or even asked if I was ok. They all just stared. Weir place. Would not recommend. Some much better sushi out there also.
DQ
A decent meal at a decent price.
Denman On Dining
Cheap & Cheerful Sushi. I work in Gastown, have done so for three years and I found out about this a little ole place that if you have a small amount of cash and want decent cheap & cheerful Sushi you should make a B-Line to: MoMo Sushi on Water Street. But there is one catch only order the Bento Box. Everything else is too pricey & not so great. But this place is a hole in the wall that has been serving up Sushi for working stiffs for years and at McDonalds' prices. Ok, the Gyoza maybe over cooked at times but $ 8.95 for Miso soup, Ebe Sunomuno, Chicken Teriyaki, Assorted Tempura, Rice and a California Roll, come on, any short comings they have can easily be overlooked cause the price is brilliant. I give these guys a B- for bounty of Sushi! Oh, and they do dail-in and take out too!!
Joy
Warning to Veggies. We thought we'd try this as quite a few of the dishes had veggie logos on them.

However on ordering the avocado and yam rolls we were very disappointed as it tasted very much of FISH. When we asked the waitress she didn't give us a direct answer and almost shouted at us when we questioned the fact it was vegetarian! I think it must have either been prepared on something that had fish on it or had that dried fish salt stuff on the top. Either way we didn't eat it. YUK!!

On the brighter side the Tofu Teriakyi was lovely. The service was not. We won't be going back!!
Info
Best put: Average.. Average. Hit's the hunger spot, but nothing to brag about. If you're hungry for Sushi and it's near, go for it.

F for fail!. I am gonna be blunt: DO. NOT. COME. HERE!

Me and my bf came here twice. Both times was because we had no choice but to eat here. The first time we thought that the restaurant was just having an off day. But when it happened twice, now it's a different story.

Reasons why you should not go:

- the servers/bussers do not clean the tables. Both time we came in for late lunch, it wasn't busy at all -only 5 tables open. There were 4 servers (excluding the guy behind the counter) and none of them could clean up the tables beside us.

-the food is baaaaad. Whoever says that the food is good in this place must be delusional. Both times we ordered sashimi and both times the fish is not fresh (especially the tuna)! Their tempura has too much batter and is not crisp at all - it's the texture that you would get when you microwave it instead of frying.

- did I mention the service is slow? It took the server 10mins to take our orders and she forgot to take the orders from the table beside us who sat down first.

- the price that that you pay for your lunch is not worth it! You can find sushi places with the same price with better service and a lot better food.

So much for an authentic sushi place. If you are around Gastown and finds yourself craving for sushi, do yourself a huge favour and walk to Robsons... you will be thanking yourself after.
Pablo
Terrible server. I went this restaurant three times, I had good impression before, but finally I changed my opinion about their service. I asked her to chanege our sheet, at the time her attitude was very rude. She doesn't know about any hospitality at all. Food and price are good. But their service is awful. I won't go there again and not recomend this restaurant. I'll let my friends know how rude and iresponsible server is there. We're very disapointed and had unconfortable time. their service makes food's qualities bad.

Great food but inconsistent. Great food at great price.

Good about the place:

great tasting food; chirashi don and the bento boxes are my favourite
always fresh seafood
speedy service
friendly service
awesome price
excellent value
convenient location, right beside waterfront station

the not so good about the place

inconsistency in the food they serve (I am talking about the food being excellent and just great; I have never had a bad one though)
the servers' English aren't very good; often takes several repeating before he/she understands 100%
not wheel chair accessible; extremely inconvenient for those with needs

recommendation for diners:
go there during the lunch time, to me the quality during lunch time is better (I believe it's because of different chef between lunch and dinner time)
avoid the stir-fry noodles (yakisoba), they are extremely sweet. Some ppl like it that way, but I am not a big fan of eating sugar with my noodles~
Jezzicuh
Not exciting, but good. If you are looking for Japanese cuisine with a spark, MoMo Sushi is probably not the place you want. If, however, you are looking for the basic bento box items with good portions at good prices? This is your place! I like the weird 50s diner mural by the till.

I have never been so disappointed in a sushi place in my life. My family and I have sushi at least 3 times a week and I have never had sushi or seen sushi look or test so bad in my life. The Sushi rolls were not even round or pressed correct, everything fell apart and they also served me rotten Unagi and tried to tell me it was fine when you can task and small that it was off, you ever tasted rotten food, it's very easy to tell when something has gone bad. I have 10 years restaurant background and if any of my staff served food like this, I would fire them with out any questions, all that shows me is that they are not passionate about the food and just trying to pump people in and out and serve poor quality food. If you want bad sushi with bad presentation and rotten food then this is the place for you, DO NOT GO. The sushi chef should be put back in the kitchen washing dishes and taking out garbage because that's what we do with people who think they can cook and can not tell the difference between good quality food and rotten food. Worse experience I have ever had, trust me.

MoMo Sushi | 375 Water St. MoMo is a very decent little sushi joint in Gastown. Sushi is generally awful downtown so when I don't feel like walking all the way to Miko, I'll hit up MoMo. Be warned, the place is a bit crazy during the rush (12pm-1pm) so it's best to go before or after. Miso soup, spicy tuna roll and tuna nigiri:

Big portions? Check. Low Price? Double check. I have walked by Momo a few times in the past and they are always spilling out the door with customers – most of them for take out but they are equally busy for sit down diners.
Couple Of Foodies
Overall, in my personal experience, the sushi is very subpar. While the prices are cheap, so is the service. There is absolute no care or method put into the rolls that I got, considering that they weren’t even busy. I couldn’t finish any of my food and went to Subway instead. I left a sushi place, to go to Subway, to eat fresh. Think about that for a second.

... The place smells funky, and not just because it's located in an old building. There was a slight food rotting aroma, and a few fruit flies flying around. Due to time constraints, I didn't have an alternative to leaving, and was seriously anticipating food poisoning, but thankfully I got lucky and avoided a visit to the ER, but I'm definitely not chancing it again...

This Gastown sushi place that has a great sit down area and good value for what you get. If you are in Gastown there are not many options so if you NEED sushi, Momo is your place. Admittedly it is not the best sushi out there but there are not many options in Gastown so if you NEED sushi, Momo is your place. At lunch make sure you call your order in if your are doing take out or for reservations in you plan on staying. Sashimi: Big portions for good value 10 pieces for $9.95, also available as 5 pieces. Cones: The dynamite cone is my favorite however sometimes they don’t wrap them well enough so be warned. It’s NOT authentic, there are better places for a true dynamite cone, our absolute favorite is Tojo’s, but its a solid cone, better than most. This location, also run by Koreans isthe very first of the Momo restaurants that I went to. You can really fill yourself up with bentos that are only $6-7 which comes with a variety of dishes on the tray. They are an amazing deal. The taste isn’t too bad, though the restaurant is a bit old. You can tell it wasn’t a sushi restaurant previously with the decor. The layout is interesting in that the booths are on both sides of the stairs that go down to the basement floor where there are more tables. They sometimes clean the floor with wet mops that leave a wet and chemical smell which can be really disgusting during your meal. That was a turn off once. Very inexpensive bento box – lots to eat for $6-7! Otherwise, the food has been good. Service is usually prompt. I use to go here all the time as a student and during lunch hour for take out when I started working nearby. It was also a good place to have dinner with friends that also worked around the area. This is the smallest Momo Sushi location – all run by Koreans. It’s an easy to miss sushi-ya, almost hidden on Bidwell St. Some prices seem to be even cheaper than the other two. There are only about 10-12 seats inside, and a table for about 4 outside during the summer, so not good for large groups. It’s usually full with some waiting for take outs. The price is really inexpensive – $6 for bento box. Service is prompt and friendly. Water or tea is self-serve.When we dine in, we will usually get a small soup that goes with the bento combos with 2-3 strings of udon in it. I find it a bit too salty and usually don’t end up drinking the whole thing. It’s a good place if you want to get yourself filled up for really cheap. This is my least favourite location because it is the most run-down and feels super cramped. They did do a bit of renovation earlier this year though – however, it seemed like it was done themselves, so nothing spectacular in the changes. I suggest doing take out if you

This place is really cozy feeling, but also interestingly laid out. When you descend the stairs, it’s almost like wandering into a basement or a dungeon, albeit a comfortable, inviting one!

The thickness of the raw fish in the chirashi once again made the chirashi look like like a better deal than it really was. The fish tasted like it had just been thawed from its frozen state not too long ago, while the thickness of the raw fish slices were totally incompatible with one-bite-enjoyability.

The amount of food we got completely threw us off and really impressed us. The 'appies' include miso soup (not pictured) and green salad. The salad actually came with little pieces of raw salmon. The chicken teriyaki that came with was huge!! This picture really doesn't do it justice because the amount of meat sizzling on that pan was truly enough for three stomachs. Here's the sushi platter consisting of assorted sashimi, salmon nigri, tuna nigri, amaebi nigri, negitoro maki, and two california rolls. The fish tasted fresh and none of us got sick afterwards (multiple bloggers said they threw up after). I can't possibly imagine how two people can finish the entire 'love

Between the both of us, we paid about $35 for our meal in which we were both pretty stuffed. This is a decent place to grab some sushi but either come early or later in the day because this place can get very packed!

But that first impression was really, really bad.

I used to eat at MoMo a lot when I was still working in downtown. It's always always busy at lunch. So to be able to eat in, we would need get there right at noon or after 12:45. It is one of the Japanese restaurants we go often. It's a small place, about

I was trying really hard during my lunch time to find a new place to review. I was super stuck until I figured that Gastown was not too far of a walk. I decided to check out Momo Sushi since I've had mixed experiences there. Momo Sushi serves the usual items you would find in a Japanese restaurant. The first page of their menu, they had a much of their specials and box sets. Most of the items were under $10, so it seemed like a good option. I ordered the Box Special A ($6.95). It was the cheapest special they had and it was not a bad set menu because it included sashimi. The set included 3 pieces of tuna sashimi, 3 pieces of salmon sashimi, 1 tuna nigiri, 1 salmon nigiri, 3 pieces of california roll, rice, salad, fruit and miso soup. I also ordered the Chicken Karaage ( about $4/$5). There were 5 chicken wings on a bed of salad. I really did not like the taste of their karaage. It was sweet and it seemed like there was a bit of honey on the coating of it. They also added some small bit

For under $10, this was a very satisfying lunch. The sashimi was fresh and not mushy (read, frozen)..which was the most important part of the meal for me. The others were fine, nothing exceptional, nothing bad. When we returned to class, I was constantly

Once in a while, I check with my work colleagues to see what or where they eat. Hey, I have to go to alternate sources for ideas, you know! One day, I saw a colleague eating some huge pieces of makizushi and had to ask where he got it from. (Now, I did no
