Review Simply Thai Restaurant - Vancouver

Good restaurant with a pleasant atmosphere. The dishes were delicious and satisfying. Do not allow to substitute ingredients (I asked to download broccoli and replace mushrooms and did not agree). Service was fine. Reasonable prices.

Food was excellent. We ordered the beef salad and Panang Curry. Prices are high, however considering location, it is what it is. Service was slow, server had a bit of an attitude. Will return for the food, most likely takeout.

Cozy small place in Yaletown. Been here for years. True to their name,. they serve simple Thai cuisine. We tried the special prawns, deep fried and served with shredded onion? Fresh and not so greasy. The Tom Tan soup with creamy coconut vegetarian was filling . What I liked was the green chicken curry with bamboo shoot. The spinach dish just so so. Of course, service was wonderful.

They are truly Thai food! Authentic and the restaurant is clean. The server are friendly and helpful. Lots of vegetarian options as well. Great for family and friends gathering, as well as date night. The food presentation is well done.

Excellent food, service, and value! Worth a special trip. Went on a Thursday evening around 8 pm and everything from start to finish was fantastic!

I could enjoy real Thai food in Yaletown! The staff was friendly and nice!

The service was really good, and the food arrived quite quickly. However, I had ordered a pad kee maow and I honestly wasn't impressed. It tasted quite flat and not all that flavorful.

The worst pad Thai I’ve had, tasted like noodles with the sweet and sour sauce. Way too sweet with no tamarind flavour. No chopsticks or napkins with our takeout order so we had to go to a nearby Vietnamese place to ask for chopsticks. Oh, and there was a hair in one of our orders. Not happy and will not be going back.

It was a few years back when we were there but it was incredible. Wonderful wine list, creative dishes and a nice setting made our evening perfect. Super friendly staff and a place we will go to again when back in Vancouver. Whenever I hear someone is going there I recommend this establishment.

Excellent service, the server was really helpful with the different options and dishes, also she was always smiling and really dedicated to her work. The food delicious and filling and the price was excellent too.

The waitress was so kind. She told me about her friend from Rio, my hometown. Nice coincidence! The food was excelent. The Mai Thai, the best I’ve ever had.

Fantastic food & very nice service. Located in the centre of Yaletown and has a nice outdoor seating area

Truly amazing and truly authentic Thai food.
Yaletown
Poor customer service, incorrect food were given to us and very long wait time for a to go order. I wish Simply Thai will not do this to other paying customers, as it is not pleasant to experience an awful lunch service.

Walking by decided to try the $10.00 lunch specials. The Yum Salad left a lot to be desired, small portions. Pad Kee Maow Thai noodle dish was not one of the best I have had. Goong Ma Muang shrimp dish was generous and tasty, shrimp done just right. Waitress was informative and friendly which made the meal pleasant. For a low cost Yaletown lunch, worth a try.

Simply Thai is a good place for friends gathering but the taste was not as original as what I had in Thailand. Taste wise it was average because I was looking for the true THAI food experience. Suggest to add more flavors from the fresh herbs, spices and tamarind. Their staffs were nice and attentive. Price wise it was a bit pricey compared to the quality of the food.

I am a Chef in from out of town to open a restaurant and I went for a walk in Yaletown only to come across this little Simply Thai Restaurant. There are award stickers from magazines etc... covering the front door but I have learned not to trust them and wanted to be the judge. I ordered the Tom Kha Talay spicy and I can honestly say it is the absolute best Thai food I have ever had. It's phenominal, the flavors are so precisely balanced, the seasoning was perfect, the seafood was impeccable and the mussels in the soup were the biggest I have ever seen. I believe the portion is for two but I unapologetically ate the entire thing. I am only sad I discovered this place on my last evening in town, I will return soon.

The food was very tasty. Loved the tom yum goong soup with seafood. There was more broth than seafood though. My entree was a salmon panang with coconut rice and my companions was a duck curry with jasmine rice. Although the salmon was a tiny bit fishy and not as flaky and soft, the curry flavours with coconut milk was very tasty. The ambiance was cozy and a little dark but overall we thoroughly enjoyed our food. The price was reasonable at $18 - 20 per plate and the drinks were also reasonably priced. We would be back to try more dishes from the menu.

Really good food! Keep in mind they mean it when they add the red chilies at the side of the menu! Mine was hot but delicious. Very hip environment. Crowded but good energy. I'd eat here again when I'm downtown.

One-liner: Authentic Thai in Yaletown that is a steal at $35 for 2 persons
Highlight: Cho Muang
Recommended for: Thai cravings in Yaletown
Would I go back? Yes.

Check out my blog post for the full review!

Overpriced. I find the food overpriced and one would get a fairly priced meal somewhere else. The food is cooked with too much sugar and the sweetness takes away the rest of the spices.

The best food and service ever. I went there for lunch with few colleagues for the first time. They were busy that day. But it took only 2 mins until one of the server gave us a table. She said she's new there but she was really friendly and sweet. We had pad thai, sweet sour chicken and pad khing. That was a great dining experience for us. Definitely will come back.

Worst service ever. I am not one to write reviews but this was one of the worst service I have ever experienced and could not let it pass without commenting on it. No one waited at the tables filled water or asked how things are going especially since the food took over an hour to come out. Few patrons had left already as they were tired of waiting as well and there was no apology from anyone on the poor service levels.

Taste of Yaletown. This time we tried the "Thai Traditional Menu" - $35 per person, minimum of 2 people, including appetizers, soup, main course, and dessert.

On the Plate Starter, the Chicken Satay & Cho Muang were ok.

For main course, you have to choose the meat (beef, pork, or chicken). We chose beef for the Massaman Curry & pork for the Gra Paow, served with Jasmine Rice. The beef curry was yummy, but the pork in the Gra Paow was a bit touch to chew. Pad Thai was good, too.

The Tom Yum Goong soup was excellent. LOL I hope they have a bit more for us...

Last but not least, the dessert - Banana fritters with choice of mango, coconut, or vanilla ice cream. They were too busy and ran out of coconut ice cream. We chose the mango flavor yet I still preferred coconut (hope they have it back next time). The banana fritters were yummy though.

Overall speaking, still a very nice dining experience. Forgot to say, the server and the owner were both very friendly. Give them 2 'likes'!

Don't even think of eating there if you like Thai food. This was probably the worst Thai food I ever had. We tried the Massaman Curry and the Yellow Curry - the potato chunks were huge and the potatoes old and tasteless, the tomatoes weren't even close to ripe. There was some chicken in the curry, but not a lot and without any flavor. We ordered hot, but both curries were very mild and bland. The waitress was neither efficient nor friendly. When we got we we're surprised at the amount - a quick check showed a jug of beer on the bill that we had never ordered or drunken ... prices are way too high for the mediocre food.

Hit and miss. A medium heat can mean anything from day to day. One day it is mild and another day it is overpowering.
Baconatomy
Waited a while before we got any water. They rather clean an empty table instead of serving us. The food was way too sweet. Every bite seems to be eating a spoon of sugar. Over priced for such a small portion.
Alysha
Thai your way. I liked that I was asked how spicy I wanted the entree. I had mine medium and I'd saw it was. All the dishes looked good. I had tofu and it was a delight. Perfect portions, a local beer. Excellent!

Favourite Thai Place in Vancouver. I love Simply Thai.

The service isn't always the greatest but the Red Chicken Curry is amazing. I order the same thing every single time I am there.

I used to go for dinner, but I realized that I can get the same thing for half the price at lunch and now this has become a lunch staple on long weekends. I wish they did lunch on the weekends and I would be there for both Saturday and Sunday.

I have tried other things during a dine out yaletown event one year, and didn't care for them. If you are going to order the red chicken curry you will be in love with this place. Other items on the menu I cannot vouch for.
Steamrollersam
Disappointing. Greasy spring rolls, chewy beef in the yellow curry, a few slivers of crispy chicken drowned in veggies (and pineapple--after specifically telling the server to leave pineapple out). If you want more evidence Thai cuisine is overdone, dying, and should gracefully make an exit, you're looking at it.

Good Enough Thai Food. Along with Urban Thai Bistro, Simply Thai is one Yaletown's staple Thai Restaurants.

The ambiance is simple but clean and well laid out.

The service is always friendly and fast.

I always order the same things:

Pad Thai (The Real Way) - Pan-fried Thai rice-noodles in tamarind sauce with shrimp, eggs tofu, green onions, bean sprouts and ground peanuts.

Gai Pad-Ped - Sautéed sliced chicken with bamboo slices, bell-peppers, green onion and chili sauce and fresh Thai basil leaves.

Chicken Satay for a starter and, of course, steamed rice.

The food is good but not great. If you ask, they will spice the chicken dish up a bit and give it more zing. It is also consistent. I've never had a bad meal there. On the other hand, I've never had a particularly outstanding meal there either.

In the end though, if you are in Yaletown and want some Thai food without venturing too far out, Simply Thai will do the trick.

Simply not good enough. Spring rolls where quite nice esp the sauce.
I ordered Kao Pong Garee Pak (Tofu fried rice with onion, egg, Thai yellow curry powder topped with fresh cilantro and green onion)
It was a massive serving, but tasteless & dry not rice didnt seem cooked fully. Im not a fussy eater at all but i couldnt eat this, its one of the chefs suggestions?. Maybe this is why thai cuisine is not taking off in BC?
will not be giving simply thai a second chance.

Simply OK. Simply Thai was ok, the food was tasty. I have been to Thailand and even though it is not as authentic as some people may want it, it still tastes good and has Thai flavors. The waiter knew every dish on the menu which is great if you can not pronounce the Thai names but he was a bit over-bearing and overly friendly. Atmosphere was good and the prices were very reasonable, I would recommend Simply Thai for a quick cheap meal or poss take away.

NOT authentic!. This is NOT authentic thai! they do a great job putting up a convincing facade but the food doesnt lie! This is just another Chinese place pretending to be Thai. The flavours are way off and its WAY overpriced. Please do not eat here...dont support pple who are just betting you'll be too ignorant to know the difference between chinese food and thai food. crooks!

Food at Simply Thai was great! They know how spice it up and still maintain subtle flavors of herbs and other ingredients. Coconut rice was delicious.

I always have the to m kha gai soup and it is always delicious

Genuine Fake. A sure success with those who haven't been to Thailand. Greasy and a lot of chilies cover up the flaws of cooking that is basically nothing more than the average you'd find in a Thai working-class home. Go elsewhere for the real thing, though it's in short supply in a city that consistently fails to serve up a decent pad thai, that easiest of things. GO AYOR!

Overall, I would recommend Simply Thai as a place to try for casual dining with friends or family. Although their prices are by no means low, they generally provide good customer service and tasty food as well as a pleasant atmosphere.

I didn’t think I could enjoy curry again, this was after an traumatic and explosive childhood experience with the yellow stuff. But here at “Simply Thai” I grew a new appreciation for the spice. And now as I wrote this have a clawing craving for some more. Walking in on a Monday night meant no need for reservations, and parking right out front. I was even able to grab one curb side, across the street to avoid the slanted reverse stalls Yaletown is known for. This was one of those places that you got hungrier walking in, it smelled that darn good. Ironically this was not our intended destination as my guest miscommunicated the wrong address, actually intending the one up the street instead. None the less we enjoyed our conclusion, and agreed that its slightly higher rating on urbanspoon was well deserved. Coming up to the door you are greeted with signage advertising “Chef Grace’s new creation”, in coloured copying. It is a picture of your chef posing with said dish and the dish as is b

Simply Thai Restaurant has been opened in Yaletown for over a decade. I still have fond memories when I first came here when I first started driving. The atmosphere is relaxed and clean. White walls, booth seats layered with gold symbolic decor. Tom Kha Gai 13: Sliced chicken in creamy coconut milk with mushrooms, green onion, cilantro, lemon grass, galanga root and kaffir leaves. Like a Tom Yum Soup but with some added coconut milk. The bowls says it is for two people but we each got about 3 bowls each.

...I am not saying this is a bad restaurant but you just need to have the right expectation. The BBQ duck is exactly what you expected. Tasty and lots of flavors with lots of bamboo shoots to bring out the sweetness. A very decent dish with the coconut rice.

Lun has been talking about this place for a while; we finally got to go and check it out. It’s located on the outskirt of central “restaurant war zone” in Yaletown. The interior was actually quite a bit smaller than I imagine it would be. It would be a bit tight for big group but for us, it was fine. Satay Gai ($12) - 4.5/6 1 set of this has 4 skewers, and each skewers has a thin layer of coconut milk on top. There were parts where the chicken burnt a little, but I guess it added to the charcoal taste. The peanut sauce was very dense but added a nice sweet taste to this. Tom KhaGai ($13) - 5/6 This soup was coconut milk based, which gave it a little sweeter taste in comparison to Tom Yum. Although it was meant for 2 people, the 5 of us each managed to have a small bowl. There's quite a bit of meat in there and it was very hearty. Pad Thai ($15) - 4.5/6 Given the price, the portion of the pad thai was surprisingly small. It was the thicker noodle with tofu, bean sprout, pork, and tamari

Good Thai food is hard to come by in Vancouver. Strangely, all the good Thai foods I ever had are all in Ontario. I was eager to try this place out; maybe Vancouver had finally broken its curse of bad Thai food. Craig lived in Thailand for an extended per

Friend who works in Yaletown recently discovered this new Thai place by his work and he would not stop talking about having it too often, which made me craved for Thai really bad. I even googled up Thai restaurants downtown and to my surprise, there aren't that many and I've been to almost all of them already. So finally I said we'll be having Thai food for lunch and that's that. Inside Simply Thai is located close by the Yaletown-Roundhouse skytrain station. Most tables were occupied when we got there. We
Eating In Vancouver
Our third and final stop of the tasting tour was at Simply Thai in Yaletown to try a Thai-style prime sirloin steak on a bed of steamed broccoli topped with red curry sauce, bell peppers, fresh basil and lime leaves. A generous bowl of Jasmine rice completes the set. For lovers of Thai food, the flavours here will be very familiar and appreciated.

Situated in trendy Yaletown, which has its share of restaurants that usually range from bad to worse (with a few exceptions like Cioppino's and Rodney's Oyster House), I really wasn't expecting to find good Thai food. Good Thai food is notoriously hard st
