Review Thomas Haas - Vancouver

J C
Highly recommend. Cute little shop. After visiting, I heard the double baked almond is a must try. Will try that next time! We went on a weekend right before Valentine’s weekend so the shop was full of Valentine specials. We tried three cake slices. Exotic cheesecake was recommended and it was very tasty. Crispy chocolate raspberry was the best! Chocolate pecan was so-so. Pricing was really reasonable too when comparing against Thierry in Vancouver downtown. I would visit here more often now for sure! Sadly they close on Sundays. To dear Thomas Haas management - you gotta open on Sunday!

Like the vibe of this cafe, nice decorations, with smooth background music. The matcha was good. My son likes his ice latte. We also had the cherries and pistachios mousse cake, it was pretty good too.

Having read some of the other reviews I’d have to concur the staff taking our order wasn’t that friendly and didn’t seem to want to answer questions or be there. If your passionate about something it’s 2nd nature to promote your product or sell your services but not here. Everything is higher priced and good quality but that is not the barrier to sale vs attitude is as we would have bought more if staff was more friendly but got the opposite vibe when asked what kind of chocolate cake they have. Ended up getting the exotic cheese cake, matcha yuzue, chocolate cake, chocolate croissant. All tasted good even tho it sat in our trunk all day and not too sweet or cheesy. Ice coffee and flat white were descent as well but on the small side.

Highly recommend the double baked almond croissant! So delicious but they sell out fast. Be prepared to wait in line and be in a busy cafe. There are always A LOT of people in the space

This place always gets so busy! And no wonder. All the pastries we've had were amazing. But my all time repeated nimber 1 has to be the double baked almond croissant. In a span of 1 hour we saw nearly 3 sheets getting cleared out. It was also nice to see the famed Thomas Haas himself interacting with what looked like a regulars from the neighbourhood.

Thomas Haas has a variety of things to sell. We just had to try their cakes. We went a little late (4pm) so limited selections. We still made some delicious choices tho! Highly recommend for those chocolate lovers out there or those who are into pastries and coffee. FT Strawberry Mousse + Compote w/white chocolate shell. Paired with a London Fog. Milk Chocolate w/Passion Fruit Mousse, paired with a Cappuccino. Also bought some Madeleines that had lemon and orange aftertaste. It was crazy refreshing.

Best hot chocolate ever!! They have four kinds. Dark (regular), extra dark, Aztec (dark chocolate with spice), and kids (milk chocolate). It's funny that if you want milk chocolate, you have to ask for a kid's drink. Shaming us milk chocolate enjoyers? 🤔 Just kidding. A great place for a warm fall/winter treat :)

Visited Thomas Haas on a Friday afternoon (around 1). No lineup when we got there but there was a lineup after we had gotten our food. We had the iced passionfruit tea, ham and cheese croissant, pain au chocolate, croissant, hazelnut Danish and creme brulee. Overall the ham and cheese croissant and the regular croissant were my favourite. The ham and cheese has a very distinct cheese flavour somewhat smoky. The croissant is nice and crispy. Lots of layers - good lamination. Usually I would get their double baked almond but they had just sold their last one which was disappointing. My least favourite was the hazelnut Danish. I couldn't taste any of the hazelnut and the raisins made the danish extra sweet. The creme brulee we had was very creamy and not overly sweet. It was also very cute and came in a reusable jar. Overall would recommend Thomas Haas for their croissants. The prices are decent and lots of variety available

Thomas Haas is a class act who has both supplemented and complemented his business with great teams, and phenomenal food items that tantalize your tastebuds like a parade of flavors dancing in your mouth. I was fortunate enough to meet him in 2020 and interact with this award winning chef and his smiling good staff. His croissants are the highest quality and much more. His upbeat sparkling personality and core values speaks volumes of his successes. Thank you guys, you rock. My spouse said, omg, many times when she ate the croissants. Kerwin Maude, b.a. & family.

Always fresh pastries and bakery items, unlike many other pastries places where they make a ton of things and their dessert goes dries when left out for too long.  Thomas Haas makes enough for the day they're open.

We arrived there just before they were closed, so we didn’t have many choices. I guess the popular pastries we wanted to try were already sold out. Still got some nice stuff. The staff there are really nice too. My kids and I loved and finished everything I bought. We were so happy to go there and enjoyed our little moment ;)

One of my go-to places for relaxing with a nice cup of Americano. So smooth!!! Tastes amazing right down to the very last sip!!! Their chocolates and pastries are delicious too! I would rank this place one of my top three cafe's in Vancouver. The other two being: 49th Parallel and Milanos. Definitely a must try for visitors from out of town and those who appreciate great quality. You can really tell, Mr. Haas and his friendly staff are passionate about their: Coffee, Chocolates and Pastries.<br/><br/>Being really popular, this little cafe can get quite busy. However, lineups go by fairly smoothly and quickly. Seating is limited. They do have a covered patio for those sunny afternoons. It doesn't always rain in Vancouver!!! :P<br/><br/>Highly recommended! Excellent quality! You'll leave their place feeling better! What are you waiting for? Just go!!! :)

Video review on my youtube channel with HD footage: vancity food crew thomas haas<br/>.<br/>This place comes highly recommended for those who like baked goods. My friend told me to get the almond croissant, and it was heavenly. Not too sweet, buttery and light in the centre but flaky and delicate on the outside. We also got macarons, a pistachio cherry tart and hazelnut praline cake slice. I would definitely return to get another almond croissant, but I hear the sandwiches are also worthy of consumption.

This is an extremely popular cafe/chocolatier in Kits famous for their double baked croissants, which many consider to be the best in all of Vancouver. After my latest trip to their shop, where I got their Double Baked Chocolate Almond Croissant, I have to say that I can't argue with those that think they're the best; the croissant was pure perfection. I also had their Hazelnut Praline cake, which was also splendid. Their prices are quite high unfortunately, but you're certainly paying for quality here. So if you don't mind spending a bit more money, I highly recommend that you check this place out: it does live up to the hype!<br/><br/>Double Baked Chocolate Almond Croissant ($5.60):<br/>5/5<br/>There are many who consider this to be the best croissant in Vancouver, and I really can't argue with them. This croissant is perfection: shatteringly crisp on the outside, rich, buttery and melt-in-your mouth on the inside. They weren't stingy with the chocolate either; there were 3 small bars of high-quality chocolate on the inside, as well as a streak of chocolate flakes outside. Even though I've had some great croissants from places like Chez Christophe and L'atelier, I have to say that Thomas Haas still reigns supreme.<br/><br/>Hazelnut Praline ($6.20):<br/>4.5/5<br/>This consisted of layers of cake and hazelnut mousse, with a crispy wafer on the bottom, and as coated in a thin layer of milk chocolate. This was a fantastic interplay between textures and flavours. The mousse had a wonderful hazelnut flavour, and contained actual small pieces of chopped nuts, which provided both fragrance and texture. The layers of cake were soft and moist, and melted in my mouth. I loved the wafer at the bottom, which provided a great crispiness to the entire dessert.

Love their chocolate! Never get a chance to bring it home, cuz I always finish everything after I got them! The green tea yuzo cake was creamy and fresh! Mascarpone cake was decent! The only downside of Thomas haas is... too far from my place!

Thomas Haas is a famous chocolate dessert expert with his products available in many high end supermarkets.  He also has a bakery/coffee shop on West Broadway which we learned recently is quite a popular attraction.  We see Thomas Haas on Global TV weekend mornings quite regularly usually during different holidays to show the latest offerings.

Arguably the best bakery in town!<br/><br/>The cakes, chocolates, and pastries are crafted beautifully, with attention to the details of each layer. You can taste the difference in the chocolate that is being used - the sweetness is not over powering. The owner's passion and dedication really shows in the quality of the produce.<br/><br/>Their double baked almond croissant is probably the best we have ever had. We have tried the famous one at Bouchon in Vegas - they were great, but did not even come close with the one at Thomas Haas. <br/><br/>

I don't have a huge sweet tooth but I've always been intrigued by Thomas Haas chocolates because everyone says that they're amazing so when I received a boxful of their truffles, I was delighted to try all of them. Unfortunately I was disappointed to find that a majority of them were alcohol infused which I wasn't a fan of and I found the fruity tropical white chocolate ones to be too sweet for my liking. With that being said, their chocolate was definitely good quality and would be great for most chocolate lovers just probably not anyone who isn't a fan of sweet things! Although, I hear their macarons are a must try as well!

The cakes here were delicious! I had the caramel praline cake and the green tea yuzu. The green tea one was unexpectedly very sour, but the texture was great. The praline cake was amazing. I loved the taste. The only that only downside is that the prices are quite high for the amount you get. If your into quality over quantity, then this place is for you.

To be honest, I didn't have any of their chocolate. The coffee, however, was weak and tasted watered down. I also didn't find the croissants to be as buttery and flaky as I have had at other bakeries.

When it comes to top bakeries in Vancouver, Thomas Haas is most definitely one of them.  In fact, Thomas Haas‘ two locations in Metro Vancouver, Kitsilano and North Vancouver, are ranked #1 and #4 for most popular Vancouver bakeries on Zomato.  Thomas Haas is a fourth-generation pâtissier, has trained with top chefs in Michelin-starred restaurants, and has received numerous acclaim and accolades including being named one of the Top Ten Pastry Chefs in America by Chocolatier and Pastry Art and Design magazines.  His cafe is all sorts of yummies including croissants, scones, danishes, viennoiseries and beautiful little cakes.

Thomas Hass serves french pastry/desserts of the highest quality. Very delicate flavors and a wide variety of options. The atmosphere is very cosy in the store as well, even though it can get quite crowded. This is the Mascarpone Berry Cake and it was delicious.

Desserts are my weakness. I always want them. The endless selection at Thomas Haas was mesmerizing. Making a choice here was difficult, to say the least. All the pastries and cakes look so perfect. I was in awe the whole time. There will probably be a line up when you walk in but it moves fast as there are a lot of people working here, including Thomas himself. The double baked almond croissant is legendary here as well as the chocolate filled, pain au chocolat. Their French macaron selection is amazing. I loved the mix of classic and creative flavours.
Jelizatin Eats
A very popular dessert parlour, Thomas Haas usually has a line up, but luckily it moves quite fast. Even though they specialize in chocolates, we ordered a handful of macarons and the exotic cheesecake (passion fruit and mango). We did enjoy the macarons, but just like everywhere else we felt they are overpriced. Our favourites were the raspberry and earl grey. The exotic cheesecake was delicious as we are fans of both passion fruit and mango. Next time we definitely have to try their chocolate and perhaps something savoury as well!

Thomas Haas is my favourite place to get an Almond Croissant. It’s even better when I happen to come when they take a fresh tray out of the oven! This is by far the most heavenly pastry in Vancouver. I used to come here every week for one, but ever since I finished university, I haven’t had as many chances to indulge in this amazing croissant!
Food For Soul
hands down, this is my absolute favourite pastry shop in Vancouver! My must order items are their double baked almond croissant, London fog latte and dark hot chocolate. I have not yet found any other places, even after travelled through Europe, that make better double baked croissant than Thomas! Their popular items tend to sold out hours before closing , so make sure come early. Don't be scared away by the long line up out of the door, you will not regret it!

This place has been around for ages and while at first I thought it was related to Thierry on Alberni, it's separate owners, even though Thierry was open more recent and has the exact same decor. Had special of day sandwich and soup and some truffles. All as delicious as presented.

Nice dessert and coffee. Good place to hangout. We recommend this place and would surely visit again to try other sweets. The place is abit tiny but still good. And they have got chocolates in different percentage and taste that you can buy.

This is one of my favourite bakeries/cafes. Theres a huge variety of cakes, macaroons and drinks. Their cakes are just irresistible, especially the cheesecakes and the lemon tart!! <br/>The atmosphere is so warm and cosy too. It was really full the day I went so I had to sit outside. Surprisingly, they had a patio with heaters.

The Milk Chocolate Passion Fruit Cake (whole cake) was very nice in both presentation and taste. The passion fruit cream was perfect with the chocolate, and the wafer crust made it even better. Everybody at work loved it! $44 for the 10-12 serving size was reasonably priced and perfect for about 10 people. I will definitely get this cake again! The only thing I wish they had was a dark chocolate option as well.
Alpaca Lunch
My eyes practically gleamed at the sight of the beautiful cakes glistening in the display. Mamallama and I arrived about an hour before closing, so there weren't very many whole cakes left for us to choose from. Nevertheless, I still had a tough time deciding on a cake for Baby-Paca.<br/><br/>I ended up picking out the 10-12 serving almond mascarpone ($44). Needless to say, Baby-Paca loved it. The cake was topped with an entire thin sheet of high quality dark chocolate. The cake consisted of layers of light mascarpone cream, soft almond cake with amaretto and espresso. The almond flavour was very prominent, but it did not mask the flavours of the amaretto or expresso. The flavours were well balanced, with just a touch of sweetness. My only issue is that there seems to be finely grinded up pieces of nuts mixed into the cake, which makes for a slightly gritty texture. I would've preferred it smooth.<br/><br/>Besides the almond mascarpone, we also bought 4 cakes by the slice. I mean, how can I possibly pass up on this opportunity?! The individual cakes are $5.90 each.<br/><br/>Hazelnut praline: The hazelnut mousseline comprised of layers of vanilla cake, crispy wafers, hazelnut dacquoise, thin dark chocolate ganache and a hint of rum. The coating on top has a nice gooey texture, like caramel. The mousse was smooth and moist, the wafer provided a fun crunch, and the vanilla cake was firm and dry, but not in an unpleasant way. In fact, all the textural components and flavours came together to create the masterpiece that it is.<br/><br/>Crispy chocolate raspberry: This cake encompasses dark Manjari chocolate-raspberry mousse, light vanilla Bavarian, chocolate sacher cake and crispy hazelnut wafer. The flavours of raspberry and chocolate were a perfect marriage. Neither outshined the other. The fresh tartness of the raspberry complimented the bittersweetness of the dark chocolate. I just wish that the individual cake was coated in ganache like their whole cake instead of dusted in cocoa powder. It really makes difference.<br/><br/>Exotic cheesecake: This light cheesecake combines flavours of fresh passion fruit, mango and orange zest. The cheesecake was super smooth and creamy and had a classic graham base. The invigorating taste of passion fruit and juicy tropical taste of mango really compliments this piece of art. However, I didn't like the coconut finishing. It does add a more exotic touch to the cake, but I'm just not big on dried coconut flakes.<br/><br/>Passion fruit milk chocolate: Light milk chocolate mousse, refreshing passion fruit cream, crispy hazelnut wafer & soft almond cake. This cake looks more modest than the others, but it definitely delivers in flavour. The components of this cake is similar to crispy chocolate raspberry, except this one is slightly sweeter. And again, the crispy wafer just provides a nice contrast to the smooth textures of the mousse. The passion fruit was delectable, neither overpowering or artificial. Flavour wise, I think I actually prefer the passion fruit over raspberry, but I may just be biased because I love passion fruit flavour desserts.<br/><br/>All the cakes I've tried from Thomas Haas were delicious. They're balanced, delicate, and intricately crafted. Nothing is heavy nor too sweet. This may actually be a problem for me because it's so easy to over indulge on these fine, scrumptious treats. They're just that good.

... Each piece of Thomas Haas’ dessert is intricate and delicate.Chocolate boxes have very brittle, thin sides; and fresh fruits, often times, unique fruit such as ground cherries, are used and placed meticulously on the desserts.I had the beautifully layered Champagne truffle cake at the Kitsilano store — it was chocolaty and milky; fruit with Champagne flavor prominently coming through.  Within the dessert, one layer was light and crunchy, other layers were smooth and creamy.  The cake layer itself was firm and dry, but not in a bad way; in fact, all in all, the different layers complement each other in texture and moisture content. On the side, their extra dark drinking chocolate was ...

Excellent place if you are looking for fine pastries. Assortment of chocolate is endless, but the one that really takes the cake for me are the croissants. All the food offered here is baked fresh, but the double baked almond croissant is one of the best I've ever tasted in Vancouver. Only complaint I have with this place is the hours they operate - the fact that they're only open until 5.30 makes it really hard to come in after work.
Cecilia
Cannot go wrong! Everything tastes as delicious as it looks! Only reason why I cannot give it a 5/5 rating is because my taste buds are spoiled from a trip to Europe.

All Thomas Haas cakes and pastries taste good in general. They always keep a good quality on everything. That's why many people always love to go back and eat the cakes and pastries. <br/><br/>One thing that surprises me is the hot chocolate. One of my friends who moved to Japan for studying said only Thomas Haas had the best hot chocolate. He tried many hot chocolates in Japan or Vancouver. The best one is Thomas Hass'. When he comes back to Vancouver for visit or if any friends visit him in Japan, the only thing he wants from Vancouver is Thomas Haas' hot chocolate. <br/><br/>Sometimes Thomas Haas is too busy. I don't like to wait for seats or in line. I would just leave and go somewhere else like a small local coffee shop and eat a small piece of cake or pastry.

When we were new to Vancouver, our aunt always took us to Thomas Haas for their crazy delicious Almond Croissants. It's hasn't disappointed yet! It's a really elegant and classy place too--a great place to bring your mum to on a special occasion. It's flexibility lies in the fact that it caters to a wide audience. <br/><br/>Food/Drink: For #treatyoself tuesdays, please swing by and get one of those croissants. Yes, you'll have to burn it off sooner or later but hey hey, it's worth it. The exterior of the croissant is crisp and delicious, and the buttery filling is just the right amount of sweetness. The drinks are delicious as well, but are pretty standard. The Matcha White Chocolate bar is something I always make sure to pick up. However, you can get them at Whole Foods too so no sweat. <br/><br/>Ambience: Classy and elegant, as I mentioned. But also just a great place to chill outside or to have some pastries with friends. <br/><br/>Service: Quick and friendly, as there's usually a line. They ask for your orders and write it down on a laminated paper, which is super efficient as it prevents mistakes or misorders. <br/><br/>Transport: From UBC, take the 99 Comm'l-Broadway bus and stop at Macdonald and walk about 4 minutes.

I received incredibly poor service here, and the staff is easily overwhelmed on a busy day. One employee became unbelievable condescending toward me for ordering more than six of one type of pastry and then proceeded to give me a lecture, then slow down the lineup to embarrass me. I wrote to the management, but received no response. Their food and coffee are mediocre -- croissants are not flavourful and do not have a good texture, desserts are okay. One of the places in Vancouver that is extremely, extremely over-hyped so expect that if you genuinely like good coffee and pastries that it will be a disappointing experience, but if you don't have high expectations but need to go somewhere trendy, then you'll love this place.

I love their double baked almond croissant. We got it when it was freshly baked out of the oven so it's still warm and moist in the centre. Outside is crunchy with the sweet sliced almonds. I fell in love with my first bite. Also tried their pistachio cherry tart, pistachio mousse and weekly feature which I think is like a cream puff with smooth hazelnut filling. I like that they are all not very sweet which means I can indulge more! (or so I think). Pistachio flavour was balanced well with the tartness. This is my second visit and won't be my last.

Can never say anything bad about Thomas Haas' a great selection and always awesome service! The sour cherry turnover never disappoints! We went there yesterday and again received wonderful, cheery service, not to mention speedy.

Come to this place Thomas Haas Chocolate for a mid afternoon snack, I had the crispy chocolate raspberry and my friend had the exotic cheesecake, both were very good, I also got six piece assorted French macaron, these were excellent, possible the best in the west end.

Cherry flavoured desserts aren't usually my favourite but the Pistachio Sour Cherry tart sounded interesting, so I gave it a try. Needless to say, it was the best decision of my life. The pistachio cream helped balance out the tartness of the cherries and the tart gave it a nice texture. It wasn't overly sweet and has an overall amazing taste! I can't wait to come back to try their other pastries and desserts!
Drunken Noms
As I’ve mentioned a couple of times before, I’m finishing up my PhD in super boring science stuff (the official degree title).  This means that for the past…well, let’s just say too many years…I’ve been spending most of my days cooped up in a laboratory out at UBC. Recently, however, I was hired for a new job which allows me to work from home. Let me repeat that: I no longer have to wear real clothes to work. I can work all day in bed in my sweat pants. I AM LIVING THE DREAM! Well, not quite. Turns out that although it’s nice to work from home every now and then, I require a little bit of social stimulation in order to stay sane. Still, when DrunkenMaster heard that I at least had the option of working from home any day of the week, he immediately requested that we meet up for lunch on one of the days that he also works from home. This would also give us the opportunity to check out some of the lunch spots that aren’t open for dinner, and are too busy to get into on the weekends. And so we decided to meet somewhere halfway between both of our houses that met this description. Enter Thomas Haas. The bakery wasn’t too busy when we arrived around noon on a Friday. Most of the outdoor seats were taken, but the tables inside were still wide open. Although they offer sandwiches and soup, the majority of the offerings are for those with a sweet tooth.  The display case was filled with dozens of macarons, pastries, cakes, and chocolates, and I could tell that Drunken Master was already salivating at the thought of all the things he was going to stuff his face with. DrunkenMaster quickly had me nab the last table outside, while he picked up the food.

Yum!. Love the chocolates and desserts at this very cute place.

Chocolate double baked almond crossiants. Their chocolate double baked almond croissants are extremely delicious, I had 2 for breakfast. I also tried their macaroons, it was ok, but their croissants are worth the calories.

Always special and always consistent. The title pretty much sums it all up. Amazing culinary team here. Service is top notch. Great place to grab coffee and pastry to socialize. Make sure you pre order for Easter cause it's freaking busy during that time

I would consider myself to be an almost croissant aficionado, and I have never had a better one than at Thomas Haas - including France. Their macaroons are to die for, and their plethora of chocolate selection is great for any occasion!

Excellent desserts and sandwiches but the customers are annoying. The Moroccan Chicken with brie and apple slices are to die for, oh and the truffle cake!!! But can the annoying yuppies eff off? kthxbai

I have passed their cafe on occasion, but never been early enough for a visit. With pre planing and a google search, I made a point to stop in before they closed at 5:30p daily. I also took advantage of their complimentary underground parking at the back. On previous visits I paid for spots by meters not knowing such a service existed. The day was fairly warm, the sun was out and the covered patio was well seated. I walked in to a shaded room, the blinds were drawn to shield eyes and avoid the blooming of chocolate from the exposure to heat. As explained by Wikipedia, Chocolate bloom is a whitish coating that can appear on the surface of chocolate. Either fat bloom, arising from changes in the fat in the chocolate; or sugar bloom, formed by the action of moisture on the sugar ingredients. Chocolate that has “bloomed” is still safe to eat, but may have an unappetizing appearance and surface texture. Chocolate was the central theme to this cafe. Its presence was not only pronounced in the desserts offered, but it played a heavy hand in the decor as well. The colour of chocolate was pronounce in the dark brown serving counters, the round tables for dining on, and on the chairs that matched the cocoa that they sold. The ceiling was patterned in honey combs with light bulbs hidden in every odd one. The same hexagonal combs also appeared in a pattern that resemble a string of DNA. They seemed to be the cafe’s trademark design, along with a pencil sketch of a wasp-like orchid. Both made several appearances on the walls in decoration, along the sides of their dish wear in elegance, and again on several of their packaging for trademark. As for the actual edibles, chocolate was covered across is various platforms: from centre pieces to bars, to chocolate in cakes and chocolate in cookies, chocolate topping pastries and chocolate flavoured macarons. Danishes, strudels, muffins, croissants, and even puddings were also on the menu. And for those looking for something more fillin

Disappointed. First time here, and it was not what I was expecting. I had a hot chocolate, and it wasn't rich and thick and creamy - it was rather watery and bland, more like hot cocoa. The berry cheesecake was okay, the chocolate raspberry log was very good with a great crunchy bottom to go with the smooth mousse on top, but the mascarpone cake was terrible: soggy and way too strongly flavored with alcohol with zero taste of mascarpone. I wanna come back to try their famous chocolates and croissants, but I think I'll pass on their cakes for now.

A nice place for an afternoon tea.. I went to the shop with my friend for an afternoon tea. It was pretty busy as usual.<br/><br/>Their double baked almond croissants are always the highly recommended ones for sure - rich creamy almond filling and generously covered with crispy sliced almonds. Natural flavour, not too sweet, but just the right amount of creamy taste.<br/><br/>My friend's order of cappuccino was amazing - she was very satisfied with the pastry and the beverage. The disappointment was about their green tea latte/matcha latte. Perhaps that's my fault to order a flavoured beverage other than a coffee-style beverage here...I should have ordered the café latte... The green tea latte was an average... other than the latte art presentation, the beverage was just tasted like water + greentea powder. Also one point deducted to the customer service - I had to ask for a coffee spoon which was not come with the serve.

Fun food adventure. I love their hot chocolate - the aztec is my favourite. The croissants are worth every penny. All the pastries in the display case look tempting. They get fairly creative with their chocolate packaging for the various holidays. There's a nice little patio out front to enjoy your goodies, relax and people watch. One day I'll make it there to try their soups and sandwiches...

Best hot chocolate ever. First time coming to Thomas Haas was to pick up their famous milk chocolate passion fruit cake for a friend's birthday. I felt like a kid walking into a candy store, the rows and rows of intricately made chocolates was mesmerizing. Honeycomb design covers the ceiling giving the place a different vibe. While waiting for the cake, we decided to stay & treat ourselves to their famous hot chocolate, and double baked croissant. The rich, smooth, decadent hot chocolate is definitely worth $5. Other hot chocolate will not do justice now. As for the double baked croissant, it definitely lived up to it's name and high praises. <br/>coming back here when I crave hot chocolate.

Shortchanged. Ordered three cakes and paid for three, only to find out when opened the box, there were only two.<br/>They basically ripped me off. Very dissapointed. Lasted a bad taste although deserts were very good.<br/>I recommend customers to check in a box after they paid for.

Chocolate Master. I don't normally travel down to Kits but always wanted to try this location. Just as good as North Van and the line up went past the door. Had the Valentine's Day special hot chocolate. OMG. It was literally the best drink I've ever had. I don't even know how to describe it. It came with a piece of sugar coated..something. I saved it for next day and it was heavenly! It was a rectangular piece with mixture of crushed almonds & chocolate covered with sugar. Can someone please tell me what i just ate?? I wish they'd open one in Burnaby or even DT. Too bad they close early during the weekdays..

Best in town. Best bakery and cakes in town. it's too bad they don't open later in the day! i love the almond croissant when it's available.<br/><br/>thomas haas puts the other places to shame.

Used to be a lot better.. Decent but used to be A LOT better. When they only had their North Van location, pastries were well made (taste and appearance-wise.) Even though the taste has remained more or so the same, the appearance has gone down drastically. Say for their Milk Chocolate Passionfruit dessert, the finishing is no longer smooth and velvety looking and there are bubbles throughout the outermost layer. Not very appetizing indeed. Not to mention their staff are not always the friendliest.

Best Hot Chocolate in the City. Extra Dark Hot Chocolate - WOW - this may have turned me into a chocolate lover. Rich, creamy ... heaven in a cup. Don't breathe in and choke on the cocoa powder heart on top like me though! I guess I was a little too eager.<br/><br/>Double baked almond croissant was good but I still like the one at Pure Bread better.<br/><br/>Busy and cramped but definitely popular, worth squeezing in on a bar stool for the hot chocolate.

Delicate chocolate. Stopped as a detour here to pick up chocolates for my wife, ironically had some at a get together and they were really fine. Wife liked them and it was all good. No macaroons though they are not the same.

Favourite patisserie cafe. Their herb and asiago scone are the best! Their exotic cheesecake, manjari chocolate cake and fresh fruit tart are probably their best cakes & tarts in my opinion. Everything is presented beautifully- even the coffees. Their chocolates are to die for! I hope to be back really soon for their lovely sweets!

Almond croissants!. Today the boy and I had a nice morning date here! The boy treated me to a double-baked almond croissant (a must-try!) and got himself a pistachio almond croissant and an iced mocha. Their almond croissants are super popular and sell out really quickly. They're generously sprinkled with almond slices and filled with rich almond filling. I found the texture of the filling to be a little dense and crunchy/ hard (the boy thought so too) rather than more soft and creamy, but it's definitely delicious! The boy thought his pistachio almond croissant was only okay with barely any almonds and a rather bland filling. I'm not a big fan of iced mochas but the boy thought it was nice and sweet!

Pretty good. Make sure you come early because this place is always full and everything is gone if you go later during the day

Addicted but wish I could linger. Anything that you eat from Thomas Haas will be amazing, guaranteed. It takes me five minutes just to eat a truffle because they're so rich and good and amazing and oh my god.<br/><br/>I just wish their Broadway location was bigger - it's always really busy when I go, which is great, but it makes me feel like I need to just get my fix and get out of there. <br/><br/>Favourites: cassis macaron, any truffle with fruit, exotic cheesecake.

Double baked almond croissant. Thomas Haas makes the best double baked almond croissant in town. Sure it is a little pricey, but it's huge and with a cup of coffee it's really a meal. Of course when you are there you can never just get the croissant. It's hard to get my hands off the macaroons as well!
Amanda Huygens
This place is usually really busy but the staff are quick and friendly and they have the best macarons in town!

Not worth it anymore.... What a disappointment! Didn't expect such a reaction from yummies bought today from Thomas Haas. The curd in the lemon tart was delicious, only to be ruined by the soggy/stale crust. The macarons were also less than stellar. The calamansi were too sweet, the pistachio were meh... The cherry tart was mediocre and double baked almond croissant over baked.<br/>Won't be going back any time soon...

Everything in the store was presented nicely and the store was nice, tidy, warm and clean. All the pastries, dessert, chocolate and food were creative and properly decorated. The food was delicious and fresh, the service was good too. The only down side I would mention is how long it took them to heat up the sandwiches because it took quite a while. Besides that, I will definitely go to the store again!
Michelle
Simply delightful and fabulous quality chocolate and food items. You can't go wrong to buy anything here. Savour every bite cause I sure do!!

Chocolate Hero. My first visit...and definitely not my last! I was lucky enough to see Mr. Haas in action as I sipped my cappuccino and inhaled the miniature piece of cake-art in front of me. Haas obviously takes great pride in his shop. The shop was well-staffed, yet Haas made it out to the tables, cleared several tables of dirty dishes and picked up a few cake crumbs from the table tops along the way to boot. He was also manning the till when I went back to get my sleeve of assorted macarons and served patrons too. You've got to give him credit for ensuring that his store is run so well. He seems to have his hand in everything to ensure high standards. My coffee chocolate cake was a delicate mousse layer studded with halved raspberries and there was a barely perceptible eggshell-like crunch from the bottom wafer layer that made my mouth tingle with joy. Sublime flavours. The lemon tart was citrusy-fresh and vibrant. The black forest cake had to be good because my daughter didn't let me have any. Haas is now my chocolate-hero. I am lovin the amazing chocolates, beautiful cakes and stunning macarons. He even has Gluten Free pastries! yay! Will definitely be back to try several other items in the future. It may well be my fave spot so far...and believe it or not, I've eaten a lot of macarons, cake & chocolate.

Croissant & cappuccino rock - everything is great here. Best croissants bar none! Everyone can bake a croissant, but Haas makes a great one! Enjoy with cappuccino! Actually everything here is top notch - sandwiches, macaroons, chocolates, and did I mention croissants? plan... almond... pain au chocolate - delish! And Thomas is a hell of a nice guy too!

Disappointing. Vancouver girls let's face it....macarons are cute but they're not that good and certainly not worth the price you're paying either. Stop taking pictures of it on your Instagram and posting it up, it's very misleading! ;) <br/><br/>I've tried macarons from many places now (Thierrey, Terra Breads, Faubourg etc) and always felt underwhelmed...maybe I'm not a macaron girl. Anyway, the hot chocolate here is not good either, the barista was sweet to have dusted it with a heart but one sip into it and I could barely tell the difference between that and the powdered stuff (harsh, I know)...it was not creamy and delicious like I'd expected but rather very watery and a tad bitter. The best cup of hot chocolate I've ever had was at Bella Gelateria...that and Max Brenner's in Melbourne was pretty good too.

Best in Class. There are a lot of pastry shops in Vancouver, BC. but few people, if any, would argue that Thomas Haas Chocolate & Patisserie is by far the best. You can read all about his street cred’s (and he has plenty) on his web site www.thomashaas.com and even gaze upon some of his creations, but no cyber visit could ever equal a personal visit to his Broadway store.<br/><br/>This is a well oiled machine that exudes style and taste from the décor to the very gracious and genuinely friendly staff. But the stars of the show are Heir Haas’s creations. Yogi said “nobody goes there anymore, it’s too crowded”. Breaking habit, we took his wisdom to heart and appeared just after opening time on a Friday morning. Unlike other shops, the cases were already full of every variety of treats. Viennoiserie, truffles, macaroons and a eye popping, jaw dropping array of individual desserts very much resembling a jewelry case at Tiffany’s. The flavors and combinations of ingredients are staggering as are the custom chocolate garnishes. All the items I‘ve tried were more than delicious. One wonders where such creativity springs from.<br/><br/>Go early to give yourself an opportunity to take it all in in a relaxed way because when the crowds show up (Yogi knew), the crush is such that it feels uncomfortable to stand and gawk because to do so, is a real thrill.

I guess location just make all the difference. I wonder very much why THOMAS HAAS hasn't been the most talked about Patisserie yet. I followed them from the old Georiga Hotel, then back to their North Vancouver old store, and then back to town at Larch, Kitsilano. I still found NO WHERE has competable bakery! (ok, the place is getting pack again, I better get off my phone to finish my almond croissant & mocha to let someone has my table. :)

Excellent!. All the positive reviews about Thomas Haas are true! I had a latte and a pain au chocolat. They were awesome! The pain au chocolat was the best I ever had.

Delicious & Perfectly Sweet. I have tried every single macaron flavor they offer in the multiple multiple times I have been to Thomas Haas.<br/>Every single bite of the macarons are amazingly light and fluffy and sweet with a little crunch where it should be.<br/><br/>I hate to betray my first love (the macarons of course), but the almond croissant is something of a dream as well! Just heavenly!<br/><br/>Last but not least, the fruit gelees are amazingly perfect as well, packed with fruit puree and perfectly tangy sweet!<br/><br/>Love this place. Not to mention, Mr.Haas himself is amazing, he gave my girlfriends and I a little extra chocolates each when we raved about how great his sweets were.

My husband and I just enjoyed a quick and yummy lunch here on our way out to UBC. Our pulled pork paninis were lovely and the pastries are always exquisite. I've been a fan of Thomas Haas since way back ( anyone remember sen5es in the old Hotel Georgia? ) You will enjoy everything you have here! Try the artisan hot chocolates too!

Love It. This place is packed on weekend, so expect to stand in line fora few minutes and wait even longer for a table. Luckily, you can take your order to go so you don't have to wait for a seat. The service is consistently good and they are fast to keep the line going. They have good variety of sandwiches and they have good coffee. I love just sitting back and enjoying the ambiance of this place. It's even better during the summer where you can enjoy the patio seating just outside the cafe. The price is on the higher side, thus it's something that I don't indulge on very frequently.<br/>Overall experience: thumb's up

Everything is just right!. I ordered a seasonal tart and ate it there. I really really enjoyed it! The sweetness was perfect for me, and the combination of the fruits was awesome. It is a little more expensive than other dessert places but personally I think it's worth it. I also ordered the Tomato and Bococini Sandwich (It was more like panini) for take out for my prof and he said the sandwich was really something. The only thing I wish is the store could open at night so I can go there more often...

The Best Almond Croissant Ever!!. My Vancouver life was forever changed when I put my feet in Thomas Hass Patisserie. As a French person, I believed that only French people were able to make "croissant aux amandes or pain au chocolat". But how stupid was it? This place is fantastic! We love everything. It became our favorite place in Vancouver. so If you want to be sent to Paradis with only one bit, go to Thomas Hass. I will try Faubourg next weekend as someone told me that I was even better than Thomas Hass but I don't beleive him!
Mark Beaudry
This place is unreal. I've been all over France and Thomas makes a better croissant than any place I've been to. His salted caramel truffles (the speeical ones) got my wife through her pregnancy. Mark

Cassis macaron. To die for. I love macarons. Perfect texture, great flavor. I would love to go in for a wedding cake testing sometime. Extremely friendly girls at the counter.

Best place for pastry & coffee. Hands down THE best place for pastries. The double baked almond croissant is to die for. Coffee is strong, but that is the way I like it. Pricey, but you pay for what you get.
Dom
The finest I know. The pastries are so pretty (and delicious) it's a real dilema to choose, and on the way there you pass by the danishes ...they are great too, (best croissant I had in vancouver by the way). Then you have to control you cuteness cravings walking by the maccaroons, so round, soft and pastels. By the time I get to the cash register I have enough to feed the sugar cravings of a good size bear familly. Houch it's pricey...But what is money for after all?<br/>Thank god it's busy as hell so they'll keep in business And you have to respect the big boss who doesn't think himself above bussing tables to lend a hand to the staff.<br/>A real keeper and a great addition to the Vancouver fine food scene.
Xx. J
Pricey but well worth the price. This place has a great atmosphere and the servers are so nice! The food really does live up to all the hype and i was really impressed by the Pistachio Macaron. The food here is on the expensive side (1 Macaron = 1.75, 6 Macaron = 9.50) and most of the cakes are around 5~6$. However, it was well worth the price because the cakes are so delicately made and you can definitely tell a lot of work and effort has been put in each and every item. <br/><br/>The only bad side is the place is even smaller than I imagined. Even on a snowy day it was extremely crowded. Seats are so hard to find and even when you do find one, people crowd around pressuring you to finish up eating. But other than the limited seatings, this place is definitely worth a try:)
Anne
Love it. I'm not sure how you could not like this place. Their croissants are worth the splurge ($ and calories!), especially their almost croissant. Don't leave without picking up a bar of their milk chocolate to go.
OMFG
OMG. Best french patisserie in vancouver. no doubt.. Thomas haas make da best double baked almond croissant in vancouver. their desserts are very refined, the flavours does not out-power one another and amazingly not overly sweet for what i have tried. Sndwiches are average tho. definately better ones out there. But i swear, the double baked almond croissand is FOODGASM.
Bagel Boy
Stupid good. Everything here is so good. The coffee is excellent. The nicest latte anywhere. Smooth, strong and perfect. The sandwiches are excellent (although not cheap at $8 each), but the almond croissant is other worldly. So amazing. After this, you won't be able to look at another croissant.<br/><br/>Chocolates are great as well, but if you want a coffee and pastry, you can't do better anywhere on earth. It is that good.
Kitsgurl
Macarons. The macarons are to die for! They are these cute, colouful meringue-ish type cookies that are filled with a luscious cream. The different flavour combinations are ingenious and fun! It's a little pricey for these small nibbles but it's a nice one-in-a-while treat.

Good not Great. I visit Thomas Haas pretty much once a month (both locations- N. Van and Broadway). Usually there for Americano and Almond Croissont. I can say I have tried every item on the menu. Don't get me wrong- it is good food. Thou not great food. You get what you pay for although on the pricier side.
J Lee
You haven't had chocolate until you've gone to Thomas Haas.
Peej
Sooo good. I've been here a couple times. Each time I have gotten some type of croissant and a coffee, thinking that was all I would need (considering that I'm not much of a breakfast person). Each time I have had to get up multiple times for more food. It's addictive, and so buttery that I end up being satiated till dinner.

"Je me souviens". While this is the insignia on the Quebec License Plate, it is apropriate to use in the context of remembering the great pastries of France, specifically in the Latin Quarter of Paris. Great pastries and croissants. Thomas Haas is the master.

Thomas Haas has two locations, one in Vancouver (on West Broadway) and another in North Vancouver (on Harbourside Drive. They are famous for their chocolates made with the finest, high-quality ingredients. It is described on their website that they use ingredients ranging from B.C. wine, oak barrel-aged maple syrup from Quebec, Tahitian vanilla beans, fresh citrus zest, loose-leaf teas and organic herbs and spices. Every time I visited here, there was a long line-up taking me 15 minutes to get a box of macarons. But, trust me, it is worth time waiting. Yesterday, J surprised me with this amazing Thomas Haas cake for early Valentine's Day.  HAZELNUT PRALINE CAKE

I've had Thomas Haas chocolates many times before but I have never been to any of their stores. Yesterday after lunch, my family and some of our family friends wanted to continue chatting at a neaeby cafe and we all had our eyes on Thomas Haas. Damn, Friday Afternoon on a weekday, the cafe is still packed and more and more people kept coming in during our time there. We waited around 10 to 15 minutes before we had a table. The line up was pretty long, I ordered a Manjari Chocolate Cake, 5 macarons (mango strawberry earl grey lemon and passionfruit). 2 classic hot chocolates and a matcha latte. It took them 10 minutes to prepare my order. The classic hot chocolate ($4.70 4.5/5) and the Manjari chocolate cake ($5.90 4/5) were no doubt, amazing since they do make one of the best chocolates in Vancouver. The Hot chocolates (I'd say they were about 50-60% dark eventhough we ordered regular) were rich and smooth, If you like sweet ones, simply add a pack of sugar. The chocolate cake reached its full potentials, It was again, dark, rich and layered perfectly with chocolate mousse, soft sponge cakes and rum creme brûlé, you can feel the chunky bites and soft rum flavours melt in your mouth. The Manjari chocolate is smooth and creamy. It was expensive for a tiny slice of cake but I enjoyed it.

Thomas Haas is a terrific place for decadent desserts and savoury goods. The service is great, designs are charming and atmosphere is relaxing. Overall I would recommend it. It’s one of the best bakeries in town.

The macaron shell was too crispy that it literally feel apart once I bit into it ... Also the shell did not have the chew that it is supposed to have on the inside of the shell ... The inside was filled with buttercream which was interesting but definitely not my cup of tea ... The pistachio flavour was non-existent ... The flavouring also tasted very fake and the colouring looked artificial...

Thomas Haas has good coffee, friendly service and great pastries.

The Lumberjack: Bourbon barrel-aged maple syrup hot chocolate, served with a Douglas fir-infused chantilly, maple & vanilla shortbread. LOVE THIS SUPER MUCH. So rich, so creamy and sooo smooth. I especially love it when the chantilly started to melt in hot chocolate. The concept of putting the creme chantilly in a dark chocolate cup is so cute and fun to look at. A little alcohol and creme chantilly lightened up the drink without sacrificing the rich chocolatey flavor. Cherished every sip that I had here.

The third time I hit the store it remained crowded as usual. To me they sell not only fine chocolate products but also delish patisserie. Spent a cozy afternoon there with all these lovely goods.
Diana
... of course my favorite Macarons. I bought one for myself. One flavor that caught my attention was the Kalamansi. Which I tried and it does taste like kalamansi. It was very authentic and freshly made. The Passionfruit was yummy too.
