Review Mink - A Chocolate Cafe - Vancouver

Victoria Reedman
I really loved this little chocolate shop and cafe. It is such a lovely mix. I had a hot chocolate as well as one of the waffles on the recommendation of the barista and it was an excellent decision. The drinks also come with a small chocolate which was delicious. I thought the hot chocolate was one of the better ones I’ve had in my life. Overall, it was a great experience and recommend the shop to chocolate lovers.

I give it two stars because of the location. The service was okay, they forgot to bring out the desert. I had to wait to get the Barista's attention to bring out the sweet i ordered but never got after sitting for 20min. Also, my coffee was getting cold while waiting.. Hence, this was the only appealing looking pastry on their counter. It tasted horrible, the almond paste inside was bitter and old, maybe left over from days before. I couldn't get my self to finish this nor my friend. Plus, this isn't a cheap place, so I guess you're only paying for the location. If you want sour coffee and stale pastry, you may like it here.

Good place for desert, I always ordered coffee and tea and for the first time we ordered becus we had coffee right before. I ordered fruit parfait, Ice cream with dark chocolate ganache and hot chocolate. It was better than I expected. I recommend people who love chocolate and deserts. There are more options for derserts and chocolate bars.

While in town, we stopped for lattes and we’re pleasantly surprised to find gluten free deserts! The sprinkle cookie was light and delicious. The gluten free brownie is definitely worth the stop. When you stop by, don’t forget to pick some GF bonbons!!

We had high expectations from this place, started with ordering hot chocolate and iced mocha. The hot chocolate was such a disappointment and neither was the iced mocha that great. Didn’t bother trying anything more.

Great vibes inside the location and seating outside also! The drinks were delicious, and the chocolate we bought was also amazing. Will definitely be going back.

A nice little cafe that had great friendly staff. We had the mocha and raisin tart which both tasted good! Unfortunately we didn't make it back to try the chocolates but the selection was huge and we are looking forward to trying some.

The chocolate was so delicious! I didn't take photos!! The cafe has an awesome location right in front of a small park and the staff is super friendly. I had milk iced chocolate it was so tasty!! And a waffle that was fresh and with a great sweet flavor. The place had the AC on so it was perfect to sit for a while and enjoy my chocolate on these hot summer days.

I remember seeing Mink Cafe a lot during the hot chocolate festival. Hot chocolate, 70% cacao dairy free: I was happy to see that they had a dairy free version with their dark hot chocolate. I chose oat milk as my dairy substitute.

I was denied my order here on account that they were closing in an hour. I ordered chocolate fondue, which for a chocolate store/cafe you’d think they’d have ready made. I explained that it would likely only take my group about 10 mins. to consume, yet they still denied. Walked out empty handed.

Mink's is usually my go-to place for hot chocolate! I personally love the 70% cacao hot chocolate because I don’t like my beverages too sweet. I’ve had the 38% in the past and it’s just a tad bit overwhelming for me. The hot chocolate was silky smooth as usual and I finished every last drop. In addition to the hot chocolate, i’ve also had the opportunity to try a few of their ganache chocolate bars in the past. I haven’t encountered any that I didn’t absolutely love, but the Mermaid’s choice – Burnt Caramel and fleur de sel with a hint of rosemary and the Peace in Provence – French Lavender and Grand Marnier in Chocolate Ganache were by far my favourite.

Ordered hot chocolate and chocolate chips cookie. The hot chocolate was tasty but the chocolate chip cookie was very stale and hard to chew on. Definitely regretted paying $3.50 for the cookie.

I had a pretty awkward experience at Minks. I visited the cafe to try out their fondue, which was offered in 2 varieties: a fruit version and a S'mores (each coming with either 38% or 70% chocolate). I don't care for fruits, so I requested the s'mores version with 38% milk chocolate (details on the fondue below). I also ordered an Americano. Now, when the server (who wasn't the same person as the cashier who took my order) served up my drink at the counter, I hesitated to claim it as I wasn't 100% certain that it was mine. Seeing my hesitation, the server asked me what my order was, and I told her that it as an Americano and fondue. She told me that the drink was mine, and that my fondue will be ready in a few minutes. I took my drink (along with a complimentary piece of chocolate that they apparently include) and took a seat. About five minutes later, the server came to my table with the fondue...only it was the fruit version and not the s'mores. I informed her that I wanted the s'mores version, and she seemed quite confused and said something along the lines of "but I thought you wanted fondue". I explained to her again that I had ordered the s'mores version, and she seemed to understand this time and took the tray away to re-prepare the fondue. I felt terrible. I know that I had clearly told the cashier that I wanted the s'mores fondue, and I don't know where the line of communication broke down, but I cannot help but feel guilty and think that maybe I should have specified that I wanted the s'mores version to the server instead of just saying "fondue". Although I did enjoy the fondue, this mix up did leave a bit of a damper on my experience.

S'mores Fondue ($11.95):
3.5/5
The set came with 6 marshmallows, 12 graham crackers (so enough for 6 assembled s'mores in total), a pot of melted chocolate and a hibachi for toasting the marshmallows. Taste-wise, everything was quite good. Unsurprisingly, my favourite component was the melted chocolate; they provide a pretty generous amount too (I had a good amount left over after assembling all the s'mores, and actually ended up drinking it). The charm of the dish however, lies primarily in the experience, the fun of getting to play with and assemble your food. Unfortunately that fun was somewhat ruined for me due to the awkward incident earlier.

Americano (Large, $4):
This came with a small piece of dark chocolate, which was a nice touch.

Had some chocolate here when it first opened! Great quality, although very over priced! $9 for a chocolate bar... no thanks! Definitely planning to go back to enjoy the fondue!

The owner & staff were awesome! We wanted something classy and chocolaty to add to our wedding favors, and this was it! Using the little delicious, melt in your mouth dark chocolate squares, we were able to create a cute little package that gained a lot of attention & compliments during our wedding.

I am not a fan of chocolate, but I am always down for a new food experience. So when faced with the option to go to a chocolate cafe, I said yes to my guest. It was also a nice spot to wait out the drizzle of a wet Vancouver day, in comfort and warmth. Located facing a courtyard, making this an ideal spot for a quick treat in summer There was plenty of seating by it’s all window front. White lacquered tables and black chairs. Other than a few framed photo collages and a wall branded with their logo and font, the cafe was kept simple and clean.

I've only had chocolates from here and never tried out their cafe. We walked in and it wasn't too busy. I ordered their hot chocolate with 70% cocoa and added organic peppermint. I like how you could choose between 70 or 38% cocoa. It didn't take long for them to make my drink. When I picked it up, they gave out a small dark chocolate square with it. I think I can say this is the best hot chocolate I've had. Although, I'm not a hot chocolate expert, you can definitely tell they use some quality drinking chocolate here. It was smooth and not too sweet. My friend also ordered a waffle to share. I was way too full already from our lunch, so I only tried a bite. It tasted pretty good. I would definitely come back here for their hot chocolate. Might want to try their fondue as well.

One of my nurse friend cannot live without drinking coffee every single day. The good news is I also like coffee and we prefer iced coffee to be exact. I asked her to come with me to try their iced coffee and fondue. Mink chocolate is located in Waterfront. It was a sunny that day so the place was kind of busy. Waited for 10 minutes before we were able to find a table. Their wall is full of wonderful pictures. I actually took a picture of it but like what I said in past post my memory card was broken and erased all of my pictures. We ordered Iced Mocha. Nothing was really special about it, but for some reason we actually like it. Then for our snack, we ordered Personal Chocolate Fondue. It is 70% cacao with selection of seasonal fruits and chiffon cake. The silver serving tray made the presentation really classy. The aroma of the chocolate was so inviting and it has a silky smooth texture. The sweetness of the fruits helps subside the bitterness of the chocolate. One order of the Personal Fondue is around 12 bucks and good for sharing. Next time I might come back to try their chocolates.

I went here to buy a bar of chocolate which awards the gold award last year. In fact, I am an enthusiastic fan of chocolates and have been tasted many kinds of coco flavors. This chocolate is special but not good enough. It cannot hold a candle to my favorite chocolate —Amedei Porcelana

I had a verity of treats here yesterday and they were all delicious. The gingerbread cookie was soft and chewy, partly dipped in chocolate. Also had a couple waffles, one of which was covered in white chocolate. So decadent.

I love Mink Chocolates, it is located close to Coal Harbour, and the café is very nice and clean inside. I always get the traditional fondue with dark chocolate. Sometime they'll refill the chocolate for free, but other times I've been charged for the refill. Their hot chocolate and coffee are really good as well. I wish they could open later than 6pm :)

The Hot Chocolate Festival came at the perfect time. The weather was cold, I hadn’t had anything sweet in a long while, and who doesn’t like hot chocolate? My friend and I perused the list, and Mink’s menu caught our eyes immediately. It had one of the more unique flavour offerings.

This is Mink Chocolates' Gold Medal Winner at the 2015 International Chocolate Salon in San Francisco. A very well deserved award - this chocolate bar tastes like gold. Chocolate with cinnamon, cardamom, pepper, cloves, ginger and turmeric - an indian curry taken to a golden heavenly level with chocolate. A bar to sure try; but buy more than one - the first bar will disappear very fast. Enjoy.

I like surprises and weird stuff, so when I heard about the crickets in their featured hot chocolate, I had to go. Based on this experience alone, I really liked this place; the hot chocolate was innovative and not disappointing (crickets taste like chips). I have yet to try other things.

At first, I was hesitant to combine chocolate with a smoked oyster but it actually works. I mean if I really thought about it, it would make sense. Because oysters have often been served with chocolate sauce but hot chocolate just seemed weird to me. So how did it taste? Well actually it wasn’t half bad. The smoked oyster added a bit of smokiness when combined with the hot chocolate and made it not too sweet. The organic butternut squash unfortunately was not prominent in taste, but it added a nice thickness to the hot chocolate. The almond’s in the almond milk was not very noticeable either but also added a bit to the thickness. I enjoyed the texture of this hot chocolate and it was not too sweet.

came in for a very very laid back catchup time with one of my friend, i've always wondered about this place, so went here to grab a hot chocolate and see also what do they have in store, so got a cricket chocolate, and also a flu shot, which is a mixture of baileys and something else, can't remember what it was, it was packaged in a nice cute toy needle, and true enough, i'm not a sweets kind of guy and even though it's good but i got to say, hmmm i don't think it's worth for me to fork out the money though, spent around 5 dollars for the flu shot if i'm not mistaken, is it good? yes it's but i'm willing to trade that $5 dollar with a kent's kitchen meal anytime :P but nevertheless i must say it's good. if you're a sweets lover i think you can definitely try this place.

Has the 38% chocolate there. Very milky, smooth and rich. Service was quick too. Overall atmosphere is quite good as well. Definitely a good place to chill out.

I dropped by here to pick up some chocolate bars that people have been raving about. I purchased the Mermaid's Choice which won the gold medal for best chocolate bar in 2014. I also bought the Of Course Siam.

The Of Course Siam chocolate bar was heavenly. It was dark chocolate with pureed passion fruit and Thai coconut milk in the center.

I unfortunately didn't enjoy the Mermaid's Choice's bar. It was dark chocolate with burnt caramel, some type of fancy sounding salt, and rosemary. All three of the ingredients mixed together just didn't work out for me. I'm not really sure how this won an award when the other chocolates that they have seem to be much better... but I guess it's just me.

These chocolate bars are pretty pricey, they are 6.50 per chocolate bar and are the size of a deck of cards, or perhaps a bit bigger than that.

Really love their chocolates bars! I came here because of their award winning Mermaid's Choice. Very unique with melted caramel covered by rich dark chocolate. Other chocolate bars were super rich and flavourful as well. My favourite ones are "the girl's flavour", "greetings from Canada", "Mermaid's Choice" and "by any other name". However, Price is a little high for a small bar. Their service is so so, and a bit slow sometimes. Been there a few times wanted to pick a best wedding favour chocolate but their cashier and barista either screw up the order or gave us a poor attitude.

The word "fair" is never one that you would use to describe your visit to Mink. Their prices are unquestionably on the steeper end, and the baristas are snobbish, at best. The only valid reason one would have for visiting is because he/she loves the premium products that this "premium" store offers. With that said, I would probably stop coming for the foreseeable future, as my beverage was anything but premium.
I ordered a milk hot chocolate. Not be too critical, but my drink was noticeably milkier than I would like (pretty much got a cup of milk with a hint of chocolate for 5 dollars). I recognize I went during lunch and there was a line, which might explain why this happened, but if I'm not getting a premium product, there's no reason why I should have to pay their marked-up prices. Alternatively, I guess Mink's staff decided I didn't need any additional caloric consumption, and that I should cut down on sweets. Thanks for caring about my health.

S'mores fondue is probably the messiest thing on earth. But probably also the greatest way to have it without being in the wild. To add to that, the employees behind to counter were really friendly.

What I loved about this place was that my monkey waffle was served to me on a silver platter! How girly is that? The waffle was thick and slightly tough to cut but it was topped with whipped cream, bananas

This place is the bomb!!! Chocolate is the best around and the hot chocolate is the perfect thing on a cold day. I got the more intense hot chocolate once and it was literally a melted chocolate bar in a cup and I'm pretty sure I got diabetes after I drank it.

$6.50 for a small chocolate bar isn't cool.. Not the most expensive but also not the tastiest. i have no problem with them, i just have no reason to return.

Incredibly rude service. I met my work colleagues there to kick off a team building day. I ordered a blended coffee drink but before doing so, asked what was in it. I was told it was coffee, ice, and a thickening agent. When I got it, I took a sip and it was so creamy I couldn't drink it. My colleagues tasted it and agreed - it tasted like it was made with all cream. Everyone suggested I get a new drink so I ordered something else and when she rang it up, I asked if it wasn't the case that she could promo it in exchange for the other drink. I told her what I thought of the drink and that she didn't properly represent it. She agreed that she should have better explained it to me but it was busy at the time. She refused to comp my new drink and suggested that I could give the blended one I was returning to someone I was sitting with. I asked for the manager and she claimed she was - her name is Payal. She again refused to make any concession. I returned to my table without a drink and sat with my colleagues - all of whom couldn't believe what had happened. I found the feedback forum on their website and sent a message - that was on Tuesday, October 14th. It's now the 19th and I've received no reply. I never write a negative review but in this case, I'm so appalled at their total lack of customer service I thought it warranted this review.

Delicious chocolate.. Shared a cup of drinking chocolate with my friend as a breakfast. Our stomachs stayed full all morning. the drink was good, rich , thick but not too sweet. The cashier was friendly, but the female barista or the male barista was not welcoming. no smile, not even says enjoy your drink or something like that.

Mermaid's choice: their award winning chocolate bar. For dark chocolate lovers and scotch lovers like me will instantly be filled with familiar flavors of this winners of best chocolate bar in the world winner. The chocolate it self is not spectacular but the control of the burnt caramel inside the chocolate during the making is an art. It ever so slightly burnt caramel accompany the dark chocolate perfectly in a way how cigar and scotch is a perfect match. I think it's worth a try for any dark chocolate lovers but maybe not people who favors the sweeter kind.

Disappointing.... Just was at Mink for a quick coffee. I ordered a dark roast to go, and thought about getting a chocolate bar, but the latter was pretty pricey at $6.25 for 50g...that's more expensive the bars at Whole Foods. $6.25 is $125 per kg or $56.75 per lb. - that's pretty pricey considering it's not even organic or fair trade. The price put me off the chocolate, despite some interesting combinations.

Checking out the coffee machine, it was like the one at Elysian on Broadway, which serves great coffee. So I was looking forward to a nice cup of hot java.

I picked up my coffee from the barista who was indifferent towards...sadly, the coffee, too, was underwhelming. For a dark roast...and despite the fancy brew machine...it tasted like American coffee, too much water and not enough coffee used to extract the flavour. Once I realized it, I should have gone back and told them, but I had another appointment so I didn't. Needless to say, I won't be going back again.

Bear (blackberry honey), Fire (Rice Krispy), Greyhound (Vodka Grape) $2/pc - Even though I only got 3 pieces of chooclates, I was expecting something better than a parchment paper. The waffle t was warm in my bag so the chocolates were a little melted. Nothing special. Totally not worth it. The krispy was not fresh. Vodka and honey did not stand out at all.
Bacon in Eggs $11.4 - I was expecting the bacon eggs to be on sale after Easter. I didn't know they were at original price and I felt stupid telling them I didn't want them anymore.
Liege Waffle $2.75 2.5/5 - really nothing to write about. It wasn't made in-house. They heated it up in a toaster oven. It wasn't even hot enough.

Great but rich. I ordered the Drinking Chocolate and it tasted amazing. It was a bit rich but we were given carbonated water that helped cleanse your palate so you could continue. I wouldn't make this a frequent occurence but I wouldn't mind going again. My husband ordered his Drinking Chocolate with Espresso added so his wasn't quite as thick.

Paula Dean White Trash Trainwreck, $8.40. Although the drink is pretty good (especially for getting a chocolate fix), I would recommend that you share it with a friend instead of getting one for yourself. It's more like a cup of thick liquid chocolate rather than hot chocolate, and after the first few spoons, can be very hard to get through. It tastes good though, and the chips are a nice touch.

HORRIFIC Service. Scowling unfriendly, bitter, callow, sour, miserable servers does not make an enjoyable place to visit and spend money. The sweets (chocolate bars, drinks) are okay but Vancouver has much much better than this - it's nothing special. I am surprised this place continues to be in business with the atrocious service it offers.

YUM. Great coffee and great snacks!

Delicious but.... The food was great. I ordered the tutti fruitti waffle and their cappuccino and both were great. The waffle was beautifully presented (it also took a really long time to actually get to my table) and it was absolutely delicious.

The staff, however, were not great at all. The cashier during the time of my order was rude and inattentive. She was very snappy and arrogant. There was an instance when I saw her texting on the job (Something that really peeves me) ... but the worst part about it was the fact that none of them were smiling. I realize people have bad days but I don't think all of them can have a bad day at the same time. Would it kill for a small smile or a non-monotonous, judging voice when I order? Seriously, you're surrounded by chocolates and an amazing location to work. How could you not smile?

Coffee > chocolate. I've discovered my new favorite mocha in town after Cafe Artigiano. I love how they give you a piece of dark chocolate with drink purchase!

Was a 3.5 out of 5. Staff were just like any other blenz staff.soso.chocolate is rich but the tutti Frutti waffle was just reheated and whip cream plus orange pieces. It was a good combination but I was looking forward to a bit more of a fruit explosion.fondue didn't have as much selection of things to dip. I would go to mink again if im near but wouldn't go out of my way.

Awful!. Horrible experience! Rude staff, crazy owner and inferior quality chocolate. A huge disappointment.

Chocolate fondue and coffee. OMG! The coffee was the best that i have had in a loooong time (Clover machine) and the fondue was terrific. We tried the Traditional and the S'Mores...I think my 3yr old would vote for the S'Mores, but she cleaned up the traditional plate pretty quick too!

Not too long ago, I heard this chocolate company named Mink has won the Best Chocolate Award. And it's in Vancouver ! Because of that, most of their chocolate bars were sold out for the longest time. I didn't bother to go pay a visit because I personally am not a big fan of sweet stuff. I crave for desserts, or chocolates, from time to time, but I won't go out of my way to get them. But some friends were visiting from Los Angeles, so we brought them to purchase some Mink as souvenirs to bring back. That was my first time there too. Mink is located close to Canada Place in a adorable little plaza surrounded by lights and tress, and this is all I know, I probably won't be able to find it again myself. You will find its Best Chocolate Award displayed right after the entrance. This is seriously the best marketing tool for them as most of us have never heard of Mink prior to award. I'm not sure how it was rated actually, because I didn't feel like the chocolates were exceptionally great. But then again, they won the best chocolate BAR award ... So it's true that I can't really think of any other chocolate bar that's better. The interior is no different from any other dessert shops in Vancouver, with big display cases showing the desserts and pastries they offer. They also serve some hot drinks, such as coffee and hot chocolates. Nothing special. BUT, I have to say, I am pretty impressed by the packaging and branding of their chocolate bars. I wonder who did their branding. After working with a branding company to build my own brand, I start to really appreciate the efforts business owners put in to differentiate their products. Some creativity is just amazing - it's like watching a very imaginative cartoon. The ba

Amidst the tourists, businesspeople, and commuters; and inbetween two buildings, Mink is tucked away in a small sitting area. I had a chance to visit Mink Chocolates last weekend with some friends to try out their feature drink for the Hot Chocolate Festival. Located on West Hastings Street by Hornby, I have not heard of this place until only recently. But from the number of people hanging around the café, Mink is clearly a popular spot, as we almost couldn't find a seat. The hot chocolate feature of the day was Definitely Not A Trainwreck . Yep, that's the name of the drink alright! Pretty amusing, no? Basically, it's a lavender drinking chocolate with lavender whipped cream on top. The hot chocolate was quite rich, though I didn't really taste much of the lavender. Perhaps I wasn't paying too much attention to the flavour as much. But the lavender flavour of the whipped cream stood out, and it was oh-so-lovely! The chocolate covered citrus peels on top were also very good! Although the drinking chocolate at Mink wasn't as smooth as that of Thomas Haas, I would definitely come back to try out their o

Mink chocolate is easily my favourite chocolate store/cafe located very central in downtown Vancouver. They specialize in chocolates products, but also sell coffee and simple snacks (cookies, Belgian waffle, banana bread, etc). I always go to the one on Hastings Street. Their chocolates are pretty and delicious. I must say they’re not the best chocolates I can find in Vancouver, but it’s the best for a gift! Mink offers very good looking chocolates with uncommon flavours & nice packaging. When I come here, I usually go for their regular milk hot chocolate, with warm Belgian waffle. It is my favourite cup of hot chocolate, and once you picked them up at the counter, you can always ask for some marshmallow, if you are feeling extra sweet that day I’ve also tried their drinking chocolate, which is a thicker chocolate drink. It tasted like melted dark chocolate. Next time, i’mma try out their fondue! Satisfy your sweet taste buds with Mink Chocolates: http://www.minkchocolates.com/locatio

OMG, if it's melted liquid chocolate you're going for, this is definitely the one. The Paula Dean is definitely more molten chocolate than 'hot chocolate', something I'd prefer any day. Rich for sure, yet not overwhelmingly sweet (I find that's the case w all the Mink chocolates I've tasted, very well done on this point Mink).

The cafe was very clean and bright. I can see it being very popular with the ladies ;) The pastel colours on the products makes it very modern and feminine. The service was great and the design of the interior was wonderful. The cafe is a bit hard to see, so can be easily missed.

Its been a while. I know I have been completely MIA from posting in a while but I am back with a refresher from the 2014 VANCOUVER HOT CHOCOLATE FESTIVAL. Happening throughout January to mid February, the festival is back for its 4th time with 25 participating venues. I decided to try out Mink Chocolates because I was in the area for a meeting. It was a very cozy place in a quiet street but still central to downtown Vancouver. Service was very attentive and all I could do was stare at their menu full of different chocolate variations. Their specialty drink for the festival was called the " Definitely Not A Train Wreck." I have no idea why it was called this but it was essentially a lavender based hot chocolate. Topped with purple lavender whipped cream, the strong essence of lavender filled the air as soon as my drink was being made. My first sip, imagine this. A river of liquid chocolate streaming down with lavender petals scattered across - and you're swimming in it. The warm cho

The dark chocolate choice was more rich and cocoa flavoured than Capstone's dark chocolate. The strawberries were very sweet and ripe which was a treat in the middle of this fall/winter period. All of the food tasted great dipped in chocolate but the mandarin oranges were my least favourite.

I was a little underwhelmed. The liquid drinking chocolate was very rich and flavourful. Kettle Chips are one of my favourite brands of chips. And I could never say no to whip cream. But this mix? It was literally a ‘train wreck’ (as its name so aptly implies):

They sure know how to make hot chocolate - nothing powder about it. And as if it is not rich enough, they give you a square of chocolate to melt in it.

...ask for their heady drinking chocolate. If anything deserves the name "hot chocolate", this is it. It really is like literally drinking chocolate. Not quite so thick that you need to spoon it up like a yoghurt, but definitely thick and rich. Every other hot chocolate you get just about everywhere else will taste unfairly watered

Nathalie and I decided to make a day out of trying different hot chocolates and this was our second stop. Mink is well known for it’s delicious ganache filled chocolate bars and amazing chocolate drinks. For the Hot Chocolate Festival, they are offering the Paula Dean White Trash Trainwreck (hilarious!) until January 31st. This decadent drink features 70% dark chocolate ganache with condensed milk, salted kettle chips and vanilla whipped cream. This would definitely get Paula Dean’s stamp of approval because it is so ridiculously indulgent, it’s almost shameful to say you can finish one. Nathalie and I shared it and we couldn’t get past how rich it was. We nibbled on the salted chips that went really well with the dark chocolate underneath. The Paula Dean White Trash Trainwreck (which, by the way is funny to hear the barista call out) is $8.40 with tax. Nathalie has promised to take me back here for some of their blended ice drinks when the weather gets warmer! The post Mink Chocolates

On a rainy day, it was the perfect weather to indulge myself with a little bit of chocolate fondue. I have actually passed by Mink Chocolate numerous times. Always interested to see what they have, but never made it inside. Since Lun suggested to go and check this place out, I figured - why not?! Mink Chocolate is located on W. Hasting near Canada Place in Downtown Vancouver. With the large glass windows, the exterior has a very clean look. Once we headed in, there were about 6 tables with a side window bar to accommodate for more seating space. The interior used dark colour tone with a stripe of colourful chocolate box arts. The menus clearly shown what items were available; most of them have something to do with chocolate. After all, it's a chocolate place. This place is a little gem. A family owned franchise of chocolatiers, now going on its 4th generation, the Mink cafe focuses on two things only: coffee and chocolate. Mink Cafe has two locations: One Downtown on West Hastings, and another at Morgans Crossing in Surrey. If you can’t make it to the cafe, you can order Mink’s chocolate bars online. @yvrbcbro took me to the location on WH for chocolate fondue and to catch up. I loved the clean, modern feel of the cafe. Lots of white and chrome and tile and glass. It’s a very welcoming atmosphere. The cafe is self-served, so we ordered our fondue at the counter, we also order two Americanos to go with our desserts. The fondue was $9.95 and it’s a really good value! With your choice of dark or milk chocolate, I opted for the 35% cocoa milk chocolate with bananas, cake, mandarin oranges and strawberries for dipping. There was a lot of variety of toppings, and plenty of them. The chocolate was perfectly blended, so creamy, and you could tell t

I met up with Py after work for an afternoon snack at Mink, a chocolate cafe in downtown near the waterfront. Mink is one of my favourite places for a Belgian waffle coupled with a chocolate chai fog, both of which are difficult to come by in Vancouver. This time I decided to try the s'mores fondue ($9.95) which comes with a pot of milk/dark ganache chocolate, marshmallows and graham wafers. I chose dark chocolate (70%) since I figured milk (38%) might be too sweet. The food arrived on a silver tray complete with fondue forks and a mini hibachi for toasting the marshmallows. I was wondering why it took so long to prepare until I saw the graham wafers arranged in alternating patterns with the marshmallows. Love the detail! Roasting the marshmallow on the hibachi turned out to be quite tricky. On my first few attempts, my marshmallows caught on fire and I had to blow out the flames quickly. Py had a good laugh until she tried roasting her own. Marshmallows catch on fire so easily! After

Regular readers of this blog know that I have the slightest obsession with waffles- namely those sweet, chewy and dense Liège waffles. These waffles were originally served as street food (another one of my obsessions) in Belgium and I love the fact that these portable little treats have climbed the menu ranks to be considered a high end dish. Not to be confused with the rectangular-shaped Belg

We shared a Tutti-Frutti (seasonal fruit, whipped cream, chocolate). The strawberries were fresh, but they weren't sweet.

In the end, what I could conclude is that Mink has good quality chocolate, but the flavouring might be too subtle for my liking. I might try some more flavours before I form a concrete opinion about them. Having said that, while I appreciate artisan chocolate, I think Mink's products are a bit too expensive to make it regular treat for myself.

In just one dramatic crunch, the molten sweetness coated with soft, delicate crisps disperses… the smooth, dark chocolate love spreads… soft and comforting goodness all over.

I had heard of Mink Chocolate Cafe when it first opened but due to its location at Hastings and Hornby, it was just too far for me

Although I am not really a dessert person (OK, OK, I have reviewed desserts), chocolate is something I will almost never refuse. On Saturday, I agreed to meet a friend of mine in Downtown Vancouver. She had in mind a coffee shop and I did not have any pre

Given the geographical proximity to both my downtown office and the college where I teach, it was kind of surprising that I hadn't visited Mink Chocolates Cafe , in downtown Vancouver. Located at 863 West Hastings Street, (cross street Hornby), Mink Choco
