Review Rodney's Oyster House Gastown - Vancouver

Amazing food, the oysters and streak are a must have. Lobster rolls were to die for, highly recommended. Great ambience, staff were attentive and super friendly. Food was delicious, I’d highly recommend getting the cheesecakes as well. A must go for dates, family meals, company dinners, or just to chill and people watch. Location is easily accessible via transit and the surrounding streets are a great place to take amazing photos.

We love this place. You pretty much cannot go wrong with Yaletown. Fresh oysters is what we are looking for. With my favorite Stella beer, what else can you ask for? Parking is not always easy in this area. But it is a very nice place to walk around around sunset and enjoy the view, the smell and the noise in this area. Youngsters love this place and it has developed and changed so much over the years. People come and go, the spirit remains.

Chowder was quite good, and the oysters were well prepared. Would absolutely visit again. Service was also quite nice, would make an effort to return again. Would like to try more on the menu.

Was a super fun night. Food was great. Servers were awesome. I was hoping to have a lobster night with the boys but they only had one lobster available. Made the best of it though, and ordered a few steaks to go with the one lobster. They put it all on a cool platter and everyone loved it. We had lots of appetizers so we were all full by the end.

5 stars are not enough. Great staff (positive-meniscus-Bobby and positive-energy-Amanda), and a buzzy vibe. Oysters, oysters and more oysters, natural and as shots (so delicious!). The most fun. Thank you! #willbeback

Very fresh oysters and delicious new england clam soup. The tomato clam soup is okay but a bit too herbalic for my taste. The service is fast and helpful. It was our first time so I asked them for suggestion on the oysters like how many is ideal and which types etc. and he was professional from beginning to end.

Oysters were ok. Lobster poutine was terrible : had to send it back twice and ultimately could not eat it. It came without any lobster meat the first time and the gravy was just salt water. Not the best experience 🤮

Getaway weekend and Rodney’s didn’t disappoint . Staff were really friendly , found us a great table despite us not having a reservation . Atmosphere was chilled and just loud enough to feel the energy. The meal was spectacular , I would highly recommend the Scallop linguine pasta in Rose sauce . Local beer and house wine was inexpensive and great. Good value for $ all round we had a great evening. P.S. previous evening’s meal at a fancier seafood restaurant was more expensive but service and food no match for Rodney’s 😊

<br/>My family and I came in for dinner yesterday and it's safe to say that it was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had.<br/><br/>It was clear to us that our server was tipsy when we came in at 7:45pm and every time he came to our table throughout the night, he was more and more inebriated. In fact, he spent more time drinking with his friends at the table behind us, than serving us. We asked him to top off our water 4 times and he never did. To make matters worse, every second word he spoke to us was profanity.<br/><br/>By the end of the night, he was slurring his words and when I told him to stop swearing at me, he became upset and had the nerve to convince me that this was the norm at Rodney's. He then stopped coming by to serve us at all and other staff had to come by to clean our table.<br/><br/>If you plan on having a decent dining experience (or even half-decent at that), do NOT come here!<br/>

We came in during happy hour, and my waiter was friendly until he realized we were only getting a few things off the happy hour menu and a non-alcoholic drink.<br/>He finished off by literally throwing our bill on our table as he left to take care of another table. When he did come back, I was paying for everything since my (guy) friend forgot his wallet. Kyle then made an unnecessary comment about how "She's paying for it all". Maybe he didn't mean it that way, but it definitely felt inappropriate and unnecessary.<br/><br/>A customer is a customer no matter how much they order or however they decide to take care of the bill. It was my first and last time I'll be in Rodney's, at least for a long while.

Love it here. It is a fun place to go with friends and the food is great. Love their oysters, they always have a fresh selection of oysters. I had their lobster a few times, they however did over cooked my lobster once but took it off my bill, so it wasn’t too bad. The scallop, the mussels are amazing. I would defend recommend this place for a chill night out and I would definitely go back!

Every now and then I go through an "oyster phase" where all I think about day in and day out are raw oysters. Breakfast, lunch, or dinner, having oysters to start a meal is something I may never get sick of, well...I've never done it but if only I could! And so being in the middle of one of my phases, I decided to visit Rodney's Oyster House.

We went during happy hour and the quality of the oysters are pretty nice. Lots of beer choices and the crab cakes were delish. I like how I have 4 different condiments to go with my oysters too. Will come back!

Honestly the Yaletown spot always seems too busy and a bit stuffy. The second location is a bit smaller but has the same great food and staff. If you want a solid meal and love oysters this is a must visit. (The food is great at both restaurants)

I jumped off the plane and before I could even get downtown 3 people told me this was the spot to hit if I wanted oysters. Sold. You get in and its a cool spot, small but its got a nice feel to it. I sat, had a glance at the menu, grabbed a pint and ordered a half dozen oysters. I told the waiter I would happily let him choose which ones I should try and was not disappointed. You can tell they did their homework, what I should be tasting in each oyster and where they all came from. All in I ended up having 18 oysters. The oysters came from 9 different locations and all had remarkably different and unique flavor profiles. Especially when comparing east and west coast. This alone would have been enough to keep me happy, but each platter came with fresh grated horseradish and lemons, on the table they had 5 or 6 homemade sauces ranging from shallot vinegar to fiery inferno hot sauce and vodka pepper sauce. I've never really done oysters other than your standard hot sauce and lemon so this was quite a good experience for me. I was planning on trying some of the other menu items out (mussels and fries were on special) but I was enjoying the oysters too much to stop. I had a side of fries to soak up the 4 beers and 3 rounds of oysters to fill the tank. I regret nothing. The staff here are the bench mark of friendly awesome service. Bad service can ruin a meal and good service can often go unnoticed. This deserves some serious kudos. I was meeting some friends afterwards and the staff even helped me sort out some of my logistical issues. 20/10 guys and gals. Thank you for making me feel so welcome in your city.Overall these oysters are very high quality and I'm sure if the rest of the seafood is half as good it'll be great too. Local beers on tap, good wines and some great people. What's not to love?

Ask for Sherwin, the king of oyster shucking! We came here after a great experience a few years ago at the Yaletown location. Everything was good, especially recommendations on sauce choices and a first time tip of black pepper. Life changed.

Had a really nice dinner here yesterday, the staff are amazing! Really friendly and know their menu well. Down to have a shot with you! Our waiter even bought us a shot :)<br/><br/>My friend and I had 16 oysters, waiters choice. The only thing I insisted on were that we eat kusshi oysters. All really great and fresh, nice complimenting sauces to add on top or classic lemon and Tabasco.<br/><br/>We followed with sharing crab cakes. Actually pretty good! Not the best I've ever had but pretty good!<br/><br/>He had the encrusted halibut and veggies and I had the seafood stew. Thankfully I had other food prior because the stew wasn't that substantial but was yummy. The encrusted fish was pretty decent.<br/><br/>This place is all about the atmosphere! If you're looking for a fun dinner out this a good place!<br/><br/>

Came here for low-tide (happy hour) I had smoked salmon and fresh oysters with a couple beers and have to say the value is unbeatable. If you like seafood like I do check this place out. Great atmosphere, friendly staff and a well put together menu. Will come back 👌🏼

Location: very convenient in gastown. Can either drive n park or skytrain to the Waterfront station then just a 5 min walk. Btw, a very nice walk at night time with all the lightings on, just make sure you don't cross the border to Chinatown...<br/>Ambiance: a cool place with oyster bar. we went there around 6'30 and most tables were already reserved but people not shown up yet so it was quite empty. But around 8-9pm, this place got busy and quite noisy<br/>Food: We let the server choose for us a raw oyster plate with variety to try out and i must say they are good! Quite impressed with the condiment selection...these guys are serious about oysters! We then ordered the steamed mussel, very yummy!<br/>Service: friendly and comfortable. We are not really oyster experts but our server did explain about his selection and the best way to enjoy them<br/>Price: quite pricey but well, good seafood is worth it!

We were walking by one Friday night and were drawn inside by the music and the promise of cold beer inside. We didn't have reservations but we were offered seats at the bar which turned out to be a good idea. Chatting with the servers and the patrons on either side of us, we spent a couple of hours before a concert at The Imperial tasting the various oysters and washing them down with a few beer. Great atmosphere. Good music.. The servers were attentive but not hanging over us. Next time, and there will be a next time, we will explore more of the menu.

Always a blast to visit Rodney's when in Vancouver. Beer, and great variety of Oysters to choose from. Went with the 'Low-Tide' selection today. Very tasty with the sauce selection Rodney's offers. Staff is quick to sit and serve. Would definitely go back again.

Out of Town Diner!. The service and food that my friends and I received was totally awesome. The oysters were out of this world<br/>and the manager, Jarret, was so helpful. I would not hesitate to come back into Vancouver to dine and bring my<br/>friends with me to this establishment. Just one thing Rodney's. Please bring in stemmed wine glasses. Thanks<br/>Rodney's and Jarret for a lovely evening.

During our winter vacation, we decided to do something that we haven’t done since we were wee little kids… have a lunch date down in Gastown. We generally don’t come down here that often because it seems like such a touristy spot.

Worst Service, Mediocre Mains. Brought out-of-town guests to this restaurant only to be so disappointed in the poor service and entrees. <br/>We asked our server for recommendations and what varieties were offered for the fresh oyster platter, to which he replied annoyingly, "You'd have to go downstairs to see the oyster list and choose from there."<br/>Understandably, they have many varieties and prices. But if there isn't a seasonal oyster list provided, and at $3-3.50 a pop, we'd expect the server to know his oysters and be able to make recommendations or offer a variety of choices on our platter. <br/>Instead we received two platters with only two kinds of oysters. Worst part is, they weren't shucked cleanly and bits of shell were in every bite.<br/>Four of us at the table ordered caesars and they were ridiculously spicy. One person at our table complained about the spicyness and our server sighed in annoyance, saying that it would be such an inconvenience for him to remake the drink.<br/>I ordered the scallop dish which was good but not standout. It was seasoned and seared well but the accompanying side salad was an after thought and was seemingly thrown onto the dish.<br/>Overall I would not recommend this place and suggest seeking the better oyster bars Vancouver has to offer.
Alex
Loved this place. If you go, you must order their Caesar! Excellent service, great atmosphere. Will definitely revisit!

Fine.. I don't think the kitchen is as good here as the one in Yaletown. Pan fried oysters- half of the order on the plate were overcooked to almost burned. No depth to the tartar sauce. Garlic prawns- most inferior shrimp used. Not cleaned properly. Shrimp did not even turn white when cooked but remained opaque. No flavour, no snap. Yes, shrimp were removed from the bill but service simply got progressively worse when we weren't ordering alcohol. <br/><br/>I think one really needs to be drunk to deem the service in this establishment as even remotely acceptable.

Terrible experience. I group of 13 of us went there for my birthday and our service was terrible and slow. Our drinks always sat empty for minutes until we had to call him over to order more. He neglected to inform anyone at our table that the bill would be all on one and can't be separated and that there would be an auto gratuity added. I am fine with both of these things but it would have been nice and the respectful thing to do to be told about. Needless to say, since we weren't told about the auto grat, we tipped on our bill like normal people would. Our server walked away with more than enough money from us for service that was sub par! We felt robbed and scammed of money after paying quite a bit for meals. I will not be going back and will be telling everyone the same.

The worst restaurant I have ever been!!!! Not about the food, but about the service. We stay here almost one hour, only got beer and bread! Even the guys who ordered after us get their food!

Love it here! A little different than the Yaletown location. The guys seem to be a little calmer and not so in your face. Will go back for sure!!

So happy Rodney's is in Gastown! Kushimoto oysters are my favourite

Rodney's gastown was definetley the worst experience I had with a restaurant. I had a room booked months in advance and they double booked our room. Plus the manager Didnt know what he was doing. No clue. Terrible experience I hope people don't go there.
Jenny
Sad. Sorry. Don't understand what management is telling the staff to be like here. Worst servers I have ever encountered. You know, sometimes sarcasm is not funny.!,, We left before we had even ordered an appetizer. Very disappointing as we live cllose by and eat out most nights. Cannot comment on the food as we did not eat. Service leaves a lot to be desired<br/>Pity Cobre closed

Went a few nights ago with a group of friends. Food was delicious, great place to get a bunch of share plates. It is more of a appy and drinks place and not so much of a dinner place! Great atmosphere, staff is awesome!

Went here on valentines day with my partner. It was a pleasant experience and our server was very attentive to our needs! it took a while for us to get our food, which our server took of and apoligized for it and gave my partner a couple drinks on the house. Will definitely come back!
MISS VANCOUVER PIGGY
The last time I came to Rodney's Oyster House was most likely back in high school and a second location has opened since then, in Gastown. An out of town guest actually reminded me to revisit the restaurant after many years, but our schedules did not match so I went without him! BF and I arrived during happy hours, which Rodney's calls "Low Tide" and people can order off the dinner menu too. When entering the restaurant, there is a set of stairs to walk up before arriving at the bar and dining room. We waited at the front for only a couple of minutes and there was no greeting while the manager and another waiter looked for a table to seat us. I like how the staff was actually looking for a table to seat us rather than asking if we had reservations and when hearing the answer no, acting like having no reservations troubles them (which has happened at restaurants that are not even busy!). There are two levels for dining in the restaurant and the lower level has a few tables along with bar seats, and an open kitchen. The atmosphere at Rodney's is very upbeat, non-rushed and casual. Although maybe a bit too casual… as the manager sits on the counter by the preparation area and bar seats. As for the upper level, there are more tables and the seating arrangements are not too tight. After settling down and looking at the menu, we waited a while for someone to take our order. At the time, there were four waiters at the front and only two seated tables in the restaurant. The service was not an issue later on though because one of the waiters stayed upstairs. He also checked up on us a couple of times and was the friendliest waiter of them all. There are quite a few negative comments regarding the service at Rodney's, but the none of the staff was rude (although we did visit the restaurant during a slow period). COCA COLA ($3.50) AND ZYDECO STEW ($10.25). Rodney's is apparently known for their caesars, but am I missing something? The caesar tastes watery, icy and not rich. Th

This week I’ve probably had more oysters than in my entire life so far! I love the freshness of the seafood from Rodney’s and I’ll definitely be coming back for more in the future. Probably not in too near the future though, my cholesterol level is probably through the roof now!

Rodney’s Oyster House has opened a new location in Gastown. The have taken up the space of Cobre that used to be there. They have the same items like their Yaletown location. My coworkers and I came here for their happy hour from 4pm till 6pm. Oysters are $1.50 and their other items are on special too. The interior is decorated similarly to their other location and has 2 floors too. They servers are really nice and know how to make their guests at home. Complementary bread comes to the table with a lump of butter. Zydeco Stew aka Caesar ($10.25) it contains the usual stuff with fresh grated horseradish and topped with a lemon and a huge shrimp. It was a really good caesar and the shrimp was fantastic. Low Tide Oysters ($1.50) can vary in variety when ever you go. These were from Denman Island and are somewhat similar to a Fanny Bay Oyster. I found that this time around, they shucking wasn’t done as cleanly, so there were bits of shell when I ate some of them. When the oysters arrived,
