Review Novo Pizzeria & Wine Bar - Vancouver

First time here and really outstanding. Kinda sad it took us so long to get here. Some of the best pizza I have had in the city. Soft and firm all at the same time, what’s a girl not to love about that!! Portion sizes were large and we couldn’t finish everything! Service was absolutely phenomenal, so kind and warm, nothing left wanted for. 10/1 can’t wait to come back.

The food quality and the service were very good. The staff were super friendly. I consider this place as a restaurant on a bit fancier side with smaller portion sizes but higher food quality. It’s definitely a good place for having a good meal before/after watching a movie next door. The tiramisu was delicious, too.
Alex Samoylik
Service is great, my dish tasted awesome, the sauce and the meatball were both flavorful. However, the pasta itself was over cooked and clumped together into a bit of a mushy substance in the middle. But nevertheless, flavor was still great.

Very welcoming and trendy spot with friendly staff and excellent food. Just feels like the food is 10-12% overpriced. Loved their pinot, pizzas, and pappardelle.I’d come back again to bring family and would also say it’s a nice date spot. Conveniently next door to the 19+ Cineplex!

The pizza was absolutely delicious (perfectly thin and not falling apart after picking up a slice) plus the lamb risotto was different. The ambience was nice as well. I would definitely go back and try something else on the menu.

Good service, friendly place for lunch or dinner. We ordered pasta, but for sure, we'll be back to eat the pizza options.

Great pear salad and arrived in less then 5 minutes was eaten and enjoyed quickly then waited 25 mins for the pizza to arrive was rather strange maybe the chef was on break. Had a 4$ can of San pellegrino server filled the glass juice + ice and seen her pour the rest down the sink. Would have liked a top up or rest provided. Pizza was decent nothing amazing. 50+$ for 1 salad + 1 pizza and 1 can of soda isn't cheap.

Lively spot, lovely service, and decent food & wine! Great location to grab a bite after the movies!

This was my first time there but definitely not my last. I had the wood fired pizza and it was amazing. The service was great and the outdoor patio was lovely. First class all the way!

We LOVE coming to Novo! Whether it's a family outing or just my husband and I and our baby - it's absolutely top notch! The service is fantastic, the servers always remember us which is such a bonus :) I would absolutely recommend them to anyone! The food is 5 stars plus
Corinne Coriboy
The wood-burning pizza was absolutely delicious and the service excellent. We will definitively be back.

Terrific. Amazing homemade pasta to complement the stone oven pizza
Blaine MacKinnon
Delicious ragu pasta and fire oven pizzas! Caesar salad is fantastic!

The staff and atmosphere are great! Food is also great for the price.

The finest Italian food and wonderful service at a great price!

I quite enjoyed my experience at Novo

Real European pizzaa! I love it!

Great Burrata. Great pizza. Great forno.

Excellent time at Novo. The groupon was a great way to introduce their menu for first time visitors. We enjoyed the clay oven pizzas. The carbonara was a tad on the salty side. Meatball was delicious and made in house. None of that freezer premade taste. The cheese meat and bread board was a nice start to the meal. Unfortunately we werent a fan of the mint pistachio cannoli. Perhaps if it was vanilla and chocolate filled? Would definitively come here again.

Very good restaurant. Great atmosphere, attentive service, and nice selection of wines too. The salads are great to start, and the pizza is really good, and I've tried a few on the menu. I've yet to try the pasta - I can't say no to their delicious pizza. A must-try if you're in the mood for upscale pizza and in the Kits area.

We found a Groupon deal to use at Novo Pizzeria on Friday night. Novo is located along Burrard and 6th around where the luxury car dealerships can be found. They are known for their wood fired oven pizzas. They promote the Italian beer called Peroni which is on the sandwich board as well as the beer glasses they use too.

You won't be regret 😉 strongly recommend 😎 We ordered four different kind of pizzas and all of them were so delicious. Washrooms were clean and the staff was so polite. The waiter was so gentle and kept full our glasses whenever we need. Thank you...

A freeing and I went here and shared a pizza and a pasta as well as some wine. It’s a nice place and the food is good but it’s a bit expensive for what it is.

Best pizza in Kits. MUST TRY. As good - if not better - than from Naples itself. The pastas and appies are also amazing, so you really can't go wrong.

Quick summary: Tasty pizza and pasta!

Favorite dish: Sausage Orecchiette

Don't forget to check out our blog for the full review! :)

I can only say the food here is marvelous. It's very worth it. I bought the Groupon and used on our anniversary. It was 5 courses. 1st course was cicheto, 2nd course was Antipasti board , 3rd course I had pasta, 4th course was pizza. Last course was a shared dessert. Pasta and pizza you can pick any that you like. Trust me, you wont be able to eat the pizza after you finish the pasta. I got too full. I only ate 1 slice of my pizza.

Had a late lunch with wifey at this place on a Saturday afternoon. Place was quiet and the ambiance was relaxing. Everything is house made, we ordered their recommendation: Sicilian Meatball, Sausage Orecchiette, Fettuccine with Funghi. All very delicious!

Tried the Burrata & Speck pizza off the seasonal menu with the Arugula salad, paired with a glass of the Montepulciano for dinner. An excellent and delicious mid week treat. Novo is a great place for a casual dinner with friends; either before a movie, or as an interesting and different option for drinks after work. Service is friendly, prompt, and attentive.

We tried Novo Pizzeria a while ago, in fact, it was probably the first Napoletana pizza I tried. We started off with an appetizer of the meatballs. At the time, there was a promotion of free meatballs via twitter. Since there were two of us, we got two. I think the regular portions must be larger.

Great food, deadly procedures. They have a fantastic menu, but the wood burning oven is killing our kids in the neighbourhood

She requested an Italian restaurant and so I suggested Novo Pizzeria. I’ve been wanting to check them out for years ever since they took over the old Incendio location on Burrard but never had an appropriate occasion. I asked if she was up for it and she agreed. It’s a mother’s day miracle! I’d made reservations on Open Table for 6PM for 3. My mom decided to bring Little One along since her family was back in Turkey and she was feeling home sick. The place was at half-capacity but was completely full a short while later. The kitchen was in plain sight separated by a short wall, with their large red brick oven they boast about reaching 900 degrees celsius for the pizzas. Looking at the menu there was an extra sheet slipped in listing their feature cocktail as well as a number of dishes and desserts. One of the dishes on the list was for the Best Pasta Challenge Vancouver Foodster that immediately got my attention which was the Corzetti with Burrata (Homemade coin shaped pasta, toasted pine nuts, pesto, lemon zest, Parmigiano Regiano, basil). I was planning on ordering it, but since I allowed my mom to order first she beat me to the punch. Argh! Little One wanted to keep it simple and ordered the Bolognese (meat sauce, tagliatelle), and I made a quick decision to go for the Diavolo Pizza (hot capicola, onions, chilli flakes, fior di latte). I also was intrigued by the feature cocktail and ordered

Mother’s Day has been a predictable event for my mom and I for over 6 years now. For some reason, ever since I moved to Kits over 6 years ago my mom has been obsessed with Las Margaritas which was the first place we went to in my new neighbourhood after I moved. I’ve slowly been warming her up to the idea of trying new places, and ever since our visit to Masala Cafe for her birthday she’s been very keen to try some new places. She requested an Italian restaurant and so I suggested Novo Pizzeria. I’ve been wanting to check them out for years ever since they took over the old Incendio location on Burrard but never had an appropriate occasion. I asked if she was up for it and she agreed. It’s a mother’s day miracle!

An Italian meal before a movie. We had a mushroom and truffle pizza and tagliatelle bolognese, sharing a salad to start. I had a lovely nz Sauvignon blanc. The pizza was delicious with wood fired thin crust with mushrooms and truffle oil. The beet salad very good, especially the beets! My husband was happy with his bolognese, traditionally made with little tomato. The atmosphere was casual and very pleasant for our 6 pm meal. Not cheap however at 35$ each including coffees. We will be back.

I love rabbit. I actually seek out restaurants willing to serve rabbit.
A fabulous meat, that's easily 6x more sustainable than beef.
http://www.cityfarmer.info/2010/03/03/why-rabbit-is-the-most-sustainable-meat-for-the-city-farmer/

Best of all, its suitable for urban farms (some say more suitable than chicken since they eat scraps and forage, thereby avoiding the need for feed imports and non-competitive with human food.

Best of all - they're delicious.

-----22 Apr, 2015-----

I love Rabbit. Chickens are the 4th most popular household pet.
Cats and dogs taste terrible.
Sophie
Rabbits are not food. Really disappointed that Novo added rabbit to their menu. Rabbits are the third most popular household pet in North America. We walked in and immediately left when we saw this on the menu. I've attached a photo of a New Zealand White (the most common 'meat' rabbit) learning agility, just like a dog. Please reconsider this addition, Novo!

From there things get a little complicated, mainly because everything at NOVO is so good, we’d bet our Italian nonna was making it by hand in the back. Neapolitan-style pizza comes with perfectly charred, thin crusts and fresh, high-quality toppings (we’ve got a soft spot for the Napoletana’s chili oil-flecked anchovies and imported San Marzano tomato sauce). With add-ons like sweet fennel sausage and smoked provolone, customization becomes a high art. And we dare you to resist ordering the ravioli with Gorgonzola pear cream sauce (a classic too often left off local menus, in our humble opinion). Frankly, the best idea is to get both pizza and pasta and share—after all, NOVO’s the perfect date spot.
- See more at: http://www.vancourier.com/entertainment/sponsored-perfect-pizza-at-novo-1.1198184#sthash.HKbVAUx8.dpuf

Not very tasty.... Thin crust pizza was soooo chewy and dry, tomato sauce was so bland and wet and the meat tasted cold.

Pasta was undercooked and bland. I added about 5tbsp of salt (Mind you I never add salt to my food!)

Service ok. all the servers were friendly.

Posted on March 22, 2015 by mag_mei The pairing of pizza and wine was one I have never seen advertised before, but it made sense. Both go well with one another, each with their full bodied flavour. And both can be enjoyed in either a casual or more formal setting. The latter was what we would be entertaining tonight. The restaurant was a larger space with wood floors and concrete walls, casual with an attempt at formality. Romantic with dim lighting and red bulbs, the bluesy sounds of a trumpet performing to jazz stilled the room, and the clang of knife and fork cutting into slices of pizza on a plate echoed from table to table. The room smelled of pizza sauce, fresh marinara and zesty herbs. From the open kitchen you could see their process. Chefs in white cloaks and black caps stood in a line. The only thing separating them was a jagged piece of decorative glass and the cherry red glow of heat lamps. The obstructive light matched well the red tiles of the pizza oven, that anchored the kitchen. I made mention that we were here for a birthday party, and the hostess was kind enough to offer what she thought was a “nicer” table, one by the window. Not soon after I was seated did our server arrive. I was here early and she suggested a smooth wine to sip as I waited for the others. I took her suggestion gladly. This followed attentive check-ins to ensure my wait was comfortable and that the wine she suggested was being enjoyed. It was. The main menu included a fresh sheet add on. It advertised their participation in the “Best Pizza Challenge” between March 5-28. The list not only included a speck pizza (speck is smoked prosciutto) but polenta fries, antipasti, risotto, and a pasta option. They clearly offered more than just pizza. We made sure to try two dishes from this limited time release. The “Polenta fries” were made with parmigiano reggiano and came with a spicy marinara sauce for dipping. The fries were crumbly, a natural property of polenta. But more so with the

Superb!. It is a bit of an odd location but well worth it. Very authentic and delicious pasta and pizza! The antipasto platter was one of the best I have ever had (including in Italy) Excellent service and a fairly priced (if smallish) wine list. A huge added bonus is the ability to make reservations as many places like Nook do not offer this. I will be going back regularly.

Great food. Great meal tonight. Server keely was fantastic

One of the best pizza places in town. I went to Novo tonight with a group of Italian friends and it was one of the best Italian food I've ever had in Vancouver.

We've been there many times. The food is authentic, everything freshly made in store, excellent service and fast kitchen.

It's a perfect place for a family dinner, a nice evening with friends and dates.

FINALLY A GOOD ITALIAN RESTAURANT. My friend and I had a good surprise tonight after a movie. We thought we were going to have a mediocre pizza as we didn't know the restaurant had changed hands, and contemplated going somewhere else. We were so glad we stayed. I had the best prawns in Sambucca Sauce and my friend a small plate of antipasti. The dessert: hazelnut creme brulé was to die for, and so was the sorbet made with citrus fruit juices and Triple Sec. We will definitely be back soon.

Nice atmosphere, convenient, nice service. Overpriced for the quality.

Excellent Salad. Had an hour before a movie started next door so this place is super convenient to grab a bite. My girlfriend and I shared a salad and a Margherita pizza. The salad was excellent with nice hits of acid from the lemon vinegrette which was balanced by the briny olives and salty crispy pancetta. It's the kind of salad that makes you want to eat salads on a regular basis if they tasted this fresh and delish. The pizza had a good crust but the tomato sauce lacked flavour. Overall service was attentive and we had a good experience dining pre-cinema.

Excellent. I just came in for a quick bite before a movie with few expectations. What a great surprise. The house made pasta was divine. Will definitely be returning!
Sarah
A very pleasant surprise! .... A very pleasant surprise!

Chose to eat here based on location, but was very happily syrprised by the excellent food and wine. The pizza was outstanding, and I personally liked their chewy, thin crust better than Nicli Antica or Barberella.

Good selection of unusual Italian wines by the glass at a great value. Their olive oil cake is the best I've ever had, though it is apparently not always on the menu.

No one at our table ordered pasta, but it looked delicious and is apparently all house made.

My first thought after leaving was a plan to come back.

One thing to note: the crowd was stylish and mostly middle aged. Not a trendy/hip spot, and definitely not a place to bring children.

Went here with a group of 14 for a friends birthday. The ambience was great and so expectations were high. Our server came around for the orders and we indicated (at his suggestion) how our bills are to be split among the different couples/singles. So far so good - in fact, great touch with the bills as big groups tends to be messy.
This is where the service begins to go downhill. It took a while for the drink orders to arrive and when they did, amber ales were mixed up with Peronis (duh?) and the birthday boy's order was missed entirely. Server then came back and informed us that the meatballs are out. Ok it happens, no problem. 20 minutes later he came back again to the birthday boy - his pizza order is out also. At this point half the table got half of their food while the other half got a single pair of tapas. The rest of the food didn't come until the first wave was finished and of course, birthday boy's order was the last to show. On top of it all noone knew which order goes where and so we had servers calling out the dishes which is not something I expect from a place like this.
When it come time to settle the bill we were then told that the bill would be all together so everyone had to tally their own totals. Cue mass confusion with all cellphones on deck. What was the point of asking how we want the bills spilt if it wasn't going to be done?
I understand that big groups can be a handful however the server was obviously inexperienced, ill supported and definitely did not deserve the default 18% added onto the bill. To management (here and elsewhere): please stop assigning people in their first week to large groups by themselves. It really doesn't do anybody any favors.

Good Food, Great Service. It was a friday night and my family and I were all craving wood fired pizza. We were able to get in for a reservation around 7:30. I couldnt have been happier with the overall experience.

Service: Outstanding. Perfect balance between being too attentive and being too distant. Very professional, personal, and knowledgable.

Food: Delicious. We all got pizzas wich were all excatley what they should have been. Great flavours, chewy crust, perfectly cooked. We also ordered the beet salad and a meat, cheese and olive platter. Hazenluts on the salad were delicious and so was the dressing. Great portions also.

Dessert: Needs special mention. We split chocolate hazlenut cheesecake, creamy, lucious, and surpisinglylight. Worth making room for in the belly after being so full. Our after dinner coffee was full flavoured Italian roast, perfectly done and served with lovley chewy biscotti on the side.

The atmosphere is nice, slightly bustling but also a feeling of privacy as well.

Overall I couldnt be happier with my meal, and everyone else agreed it was a fine evening indeed! I would certainly come back again.

Mistakes on our Bill. Make sure you Read your bill carefully, luckily we always do!!
the service, staff and food as always are great.. its a noisy place if you are OK with that......we enjoy going there either before or after a movie next door

Noodlemania. Went to Novo for noodlemania and had great service from Renee. The Speghetini Campana was delicious. I am eager to return to use my gift certificate.

Very Impressive. I went out to Novo with a party of 5 and we had a great experience. I made a reservation online and the table was ready for us when we arrived on time. The service was fantastic, and we all thought the food was flawless. The waiter was amazingly attentive, easy to talk to, and was able to casually talk about the how the food was made. The pricing was fine as well, especially because the food and was great. I'm trying to make my way through the city but I'd like to return again. I saw that there is a theatre next door, which could make it a nice date location.

Really good Italian food but atmosphere is cold. Nothing that sets it apparts or special.

Meh + Good Service. We went with high hopes of finding a local alternative to trekking to Nicli. I guess if I was in the mood for pizza, I'd stop in.

The pizza crust was pretty good with a nice chewy crust. The rim was too thick but didn't appear rolled so it can be fixed. The Burrata was creamy but bland. The Nepolitana was over salty with anchovies and very briny olives. I think some would like it. My five year old liked the Margherita. The calamari was very greasy; so greasy the you could see it on the plate. Did someone forget to drain it on absorbent paper? Within minutes, it was soggy. It was also unseasoned. The aioli was okay. which brings me to the service . . .

Excellent. Our server was pleasant, attentive but not omnipresent. She asked about the calamari and seemed only slightly concerned but on presentation of the bill said that she spoke to her manager who agreed it should come off the bill. How refreshing to get an appropriate response to a very poorly executed dish.

The desserts were limited to Tira Misu, Panna Cotta and Dessert Pizza.

Why is the mushroom pizza called "Mushroom" instead of "Funghi"? Only a few spelling mistakes on the wine list.
TooLoud
Holy crap, talk about your hidden (or maybe not so hidden) gems. Came on a Sunday night with Jen for a late dinner. Ordered the most tender squid I've ever had, great light batter. Fantastic carpaccio pizza and finished with a nutella calzone. I don't have a sweet tooth but man was that good. Hit for the cycle as far as in concerned, we'll be back
Nate McAnally
I'm not sure if it was an off night but the service was terrible. We waited for 30min and we didnt get our drinks. Items we ordered weren't available. Bad bad bad...don't eat here. You will be dissappointed.
Digest
Consistently very good. The pizza here is excellent -- the oven being hot enough to do it right -- and Novo, in my experience, performs more consistently well than the other brick-oven places in the Kits area. My advice would be to go for one of the more straightforward things on the menu. If one had to gripe it would be about the wine list: The more affordable wines on it are fairly unappealing.

Compared to Libretto?. Has anyone here been to Pizza Libretto in Toronto? How does this place stack up against their pie? I love Neapolitan style - and am new to Vancouver, would love to hear some thoughts on the matter.
H
Delicious!. We had an exceptional experience at Novo in February of 2102. Our waiter/bartender Jake, was extremely attentive and went above and beyond to ensure that our party was happy not only with food and drink, but with the service.

We all shared the delectable antipasto platters (yum), and most people had pizza (which were apparently amazing - done in the traditional Naples style). I had the beet and hazelnut salad, which was delightful and the meatballs - which were INCREDIBLE. So incredible that my brother and I shared a second order.

Everything was so wonderful, we'll definitely be back again. I let the bartender pick our wines, and each time we were very impressed.

Great place for a date or a larger party like ours.

Response to Aley. We appreciate all the feedback that all our wonderful customers have given us so far. We also wanted to respond to some statements that are untrue about Novo Pizzeria from Aley's review "Rip Off" from Jan 16th, 2011.

Aley, we wanted to let you know we haven't taken any of the old menus items from Icendios at all. We are proud to create our own menu of Neapolitan Pizza, and serve fantastic pasta that our great team of chefs and management work on to create. We are always striving to make the best Italian comfort food in Vancouver.

While some of our food may be quick to order, they are in no way the easiest to prepare. We have spent thousands of hours, and received dozens of people's feedback to ensure that the quality of food remains as high as possible.

We would also be happy to help correct any customer service issues you may have had, we are always open in getting feedback to deliver the best customer service possible. We do our absolute best to ensure that we are friendly and that everybody is treated with a smile.

Thank you again for being our customer and giving us feedback. We hope you have a fantastic week.

Rip Off. This place is clearly trading on its location next to the 5th Avenue Cinema. Nothing special thin crust pizza at $17 - $20. It's like they took the old Incendio's menu, kept only the easy to prepare items and raised the prices. . Vancouverites show you care - choose a restaurant that provides great food, not just pretention and convenience.

Amazing pizza. I loved novo! i went there on the weekend for some pizza and pasta on a dinner date. We both loved the atmosphere and the food! we had the gnocchi, the meatballs, and the buratta pizza. All of it was so delicious . The pizza crust was so soft and light, and the pizza had lots of fresh cheese. the meatballs were scrumptious! they had pine nuts and i believe dates. They were like no other meatballs i have ever had! as for the gnocchi , what a great light side dish to compliment the pizza! This place is trendy and totally a great atmosphere! Love how they had the bar set up with all the wine spouts! Defiantly recommend this place

Small menu selection. Food okay. Very noisy but nice atmosphere

Kudos Vancouver for more great pizza!. With the explosion of new places churning out pizzas that they profess to be worthy of VPN certification, I felt compelled to cross another one of these off my list- Novo Pizzeria and Winebar.
Unfortunately, the experience did not start out well at all. We decided to do takeout since we wanted to start decorating our place for Christmas and we were told the order would be ready for pick-up in 20 minutes. So we showed up at the restaurant 20 minutes later- and then waited another 30 minutes at the door. Apparently they had gotten their "wires crossed" and had not put our order through. While I can excuse an innocent mistake in a busy restaurant, I cannot excuse the fact that I waited for half an hour by the door, getting hungrier and colder by the minute, and not once was I offered a drink or even a seat at the bar while I waited. A small discount would have been nice. So very low rating for service on this isolated encounter, especially for a new place trying to make a good impression.
But regardless of the service, no one can deny that these guys know how to make pizza. The crust was light but sturdy, and probably my favorite of any of the crusts at Vancouver's new pizza places (Nicli, Verace, Farina). I had the Verdura Cota with added mushrooms and the toppings (roasted peppers, onion, artichoke) were plentiful and fresh, and were accompanied with the perfect amount of creamy goat cheese and fiori di latte. My husband had the Diavollo
which also had a generous amount of meat and a nice little kick of heat.
I do not usually make it a point of going back to places with bad service but I will need to make an exception here because the pizza was just that good. If they can get their act together at the front of the house, I will likely become a loyal customer!

Going the extra mile. A group of us were in last thursday and had a great time despite a few bumps in the road. The hostess opened the door for us on entry and found us a table in the almost full restaurant right away. Our server was great, friendly and knowledgeable. She helped us choose wines, as the by the glass list was quite extensive and we were not familiar with all the names. Then we ordered food and thats where the problems came, we waited almost 40 min for our order! The server was great while we were waiting, she explained that the kitchen was behind and brought us some bread, you could tell that she was genuinely sorry about the situation, which is nice to see in this world full of fakeness. However, when the food finally arrived it was just ok, certainly nothing special.... Our server comped our food as she understood how ridiculous the wait was and saw that we clearly weren't enjoying out food. We hope to try it again and maybe the food will rise to the level of great service we received.

Great pizza, lousy service. I went to Novo on Friday to celebrate a friend's birthday. Upon entering and seeing 5 empty tables, I was told we would have to wait 45 minutes for a table. So, I left my phone number and went back to the car to chose another Italian restaurant intead. However, within 4 minutes the hostess called back saying a table had opened up (no kidding, there were empty tables everywhere). Note to management - if you turn away customers with empty tables good luck with making a profit.
We all ordered pizzas - they were absolutely amazing and delicious with a chewy crust. I have no complaints with the food at all. I also love the use of Burrata cheese.

I ordered a glass of chardonnay to start. Their wines by the glass was very limited. When it arrived it looked like champagne. Seriously. It was bizarre.
Confused, I looked towards the bar and it became very obvious why they had such a limited selection and why my wine looked the way it did - they serve their wine like Subway would serve soda pop - it was all done by machine. Seriously - WTF? At least let me wine sit for a few minutes so you don't bring it to my table looking carbonated and murky if you insist on using this system.
I then had to ask the waiter 3 times for my next glass of wine - he seemed out of it and inattentive.
It's a shame because the food was great, but a restaurant can't survive on just good food - you need good service to complete the dining experience.

Brava!. My brother and I dropped by Novo after a movie. Enjoyed the caesar salad (presented in a novel way as crisp leaves and croutons, not swimming in dressing) and a delicious Prosciutto and Arugula pizza with extra anchovies, made thin-crusted and with fresh ingredients. Perfection. And for once, an order of tiramisu for dessert did not disappoint-firm breading, and not overly sweet chocolate (although it benefited from an extra splash of rum on top). Wine list is uninspired but serviceable. Great casual dining for a comfortable price, with rustic but chic decor. I'd go again.

Very Good!. Went to Novo last week after taking in a movie next door at 5th Ave. cinemas. We had a nice meal, sharing pizzas and salad amongst 3 of us. Pizzas were good even if they were a little on the chewy side. These guys are made to eat with your hands - taking a piece and folding it (in order to handle it without too much drama!). A nice wine list, albeit a little pricey by the glass. The service was a highlight. Our waiter was friendly, polite, with a good sense of humour. No room left for desert so we'll need to come back to try that out. Also rumour has it that the meatballs are pretty stellar. Worth a return trip.
Tastytreat
Will be back!!. Came in for dinner on Saturday night after a movie and was pleasantly surprised! What a cozy, warm, and inviting room. The service was friendly and efficient, we felt very taken care of. Our second course was a little bit of a wait, but then again understandable as they were full to the brim. The food was also worth the wait, especially the meatballs, amazing ! We also enjoyed some tasty cocktails. We're new to Vancouver and will for sure be making this one of our new stomping grounds !!

Won't return. Will not return. That includes the 5 other people I was with! We had pizzas and pasta and the tomatoe sauce on all was BLAND!!! The table we were at was in front of the door and every time the door was open we got a blast of cold air all night. We were told that glass was coming, go out and get a drape!! We had to wear our coats done up to our ears!!!! The service was slow when it did show up and our server filled the small water glass to the brim to the point you spilled water on yourself every time you picked it up! This place will be gone in months . We can find better places to spend our money at!

What a great Place!. A group of four of us went to the Canucks exhibition game on Saturday night and we decided to have dinner, so my friend made reservations at Novo Pizzeria. He had been there and raved about it, so we decided to see for ourselves. The place was very busy when we got there, but yet we were well taken care of and greeted by lots of friendly faces. The place is very comfortable and has a very funky bar and just has a good vibe to it. We tried some of the italian aperitifs mine being the Lavender Limone and it blew me away. it was the perfect blend of flavours. We started with some appetizers. The sicilian meatballs were out of this world good. We also had the burrata, and shared a few salads. All very tasty. We ordered 2 pizzas to share. one was the prosciutto and arugula and the other was the verdura cotta. The pizza was spectacular, not only was it easy on the eyes, but it tasted heavenly. All four of us had a great time and we are definitely coming back

Underwhelming. Small portion, skimpy toppings on expensive pizza. I don't mind paying18$ a pizza but don't hold back on the ingredients. I doubt this place will be here in 6 months. People don't like to be ripped off. Will not return.

Real Pizza. Friendly staff, fantastic "real" pizza! Had a caprese salad and a ham, mushroom, and artichoke pizza. I love the quality of ingredients that was used. Will def be returning again!

Above and beyond!. I loved Incendio and was sad to see them close their doors. I decided to give Novo a chance even though they had some big shoes to fill (or should I say tummies to fill). I ordered a pizza for pick up just a few days after they first opened and was surprised to see that the place was packed. I was told that my pizza would be ready in 15mins. After about 17 minutes, the server came back and profusely apologized for my pizza not being ready. She invited me to sit at the bar and order a glass of wine (of my choosing), on the house. My pizza was ready just a few minutes later. I finished my delicious glass of wine and went to leave the restaurant. The manager stopped me at the door and informed me that they had made an extra pizza and asked if I would like to take it as well. Of course I accepted! Much to my delight, both pizzas were out of this world delicious. Even better than Incendio. Definitely my new favourite pizza in Vancouver (better than Lombardos, Marcellos, Nicli Antica). These guys know pizza and they know wine. I will be returning this weekend to celebrate my birthday there.

Hands down - AMAZING!!! Ask for the Nutella Calzone for dessert :-). We fell into this place by accident and had one of the best dinners we've had in a while. We started with the beet salad and the truffle mushroom pizza. We were so incredibly pleased, we ended up ordering more. The lasagna, meatballs and gnocchi were also unbelievable. We even sparked up a conversation with our neighboring table about the amazing food. When Ali, the manager, came to check up on us, we went on about what a great experience we were having. He asked to introduce us to his favorite dessert - a Nutella Calzone. It is not on the menu, but that is hands down, the MOST amazing dessert I have ever had. They even make the whipping cream - on order, in the back. Unbelievable!! Next time, I plan to try the prime rib and tiramisu and, and, and....

I love the crust!. One of the best Margherita pizzas I've had in awhile. The crust was by far my favorite part of the pizza along with the great tomato sauce. It's a bit pricey but good quality food. The wine dispenser was awesome!

Surpassed all my expectations!!. All I can say is that the food at Novo is incredible and well worth the visit. Our party enjoyed almost everything on the menu and there wasn't one dish that disappointed. The meatballs are by far the best in the city and the prime rib melts in your mouth. The service was spot on too. Our waiter made sure our wine glasses were always full and for those who weren't drinking, always had their water glass topped-up. Needless to say but I highly recommend Novo Pizzeria for everyone - it will not disappoint!

Amazing food and service. I love italian food and this place did not disappoint. I was with a party of three and sampled everything from their amazing meatballs (with pinenuts!) to their prawn salad to their smoked salmon pizza to their primerib. Everything was presented well, portioned generously and most important - tasted fantastic! I actually called the Manager over to let them know I felt they were providing too much of something and questioned the foodcost! I did not sample much wine, but definately will next time. Everyone from the hostess to our waiter to their manager was kind, respectful and always smiling. I will be coming back again and bringing more friends.

At this classy pizzeria, we had the Novo breakfast pizza made with fontina cheese, smoked pancetta, salumi, and a sunny side up quail egg with a side of arugula salad. The pizza had a nice and crispy crust but even with the quail egg it felt very ordinary; it lacked sustenance. The arugula was quite lovely as it was tossed with blood oranges that gave it a bittersweet tang.

I went to Novo Pizzeria and Wine Bar for one purpose only – to try out their pizza! Novo is known for their passion for pizza and it was about time for me to find out how good their pizzas are. Novo is located right next to the Fifth Avenue Cinemas so it is a popular food spot for movie goers. The restaurant has a cozy atmosphere and is spacious! This restaurant also has a wood-fired pizza oven that will cook the pizza for around a minute at 900 degrees ! As I approached the pizza oven to have a look, I found a happy pizza chef making pizzas… I asked the server about the size of the pizzas and he noted that each pizza would feed about one person. Most of Novo’s pizzas cost around $17-$18 each. We tried the prosciutto and arugula pizza (prosciutto, arugula, reggiano, fior di latte), which was delicious! The prosciutto and arugula were very fresh. We also ordered the Margherita (fior di latte, San Marzano tomatoes, basil), which was also tasty. Both pizzas were very good, with a nice thin crispy thin crust. We ordered only two pizzas, but I feel we had just a bit more room to order an extra item like antipasti, salad or even another pizza with leftovers to take home. Pizza used to be one of my favorite comfort food when I was younger. Especially during school years, whenever parents were not home, I'd have friends over and we would order pizza for dinner. I am now a lot more health-conscious than before. Although I still occasionally have McDonald's fries, I haven't had pizza for years and years ! The other day was Frank's sister's birthday and she picked a very classy pizzeria that serves thin crusted pizzas !

This pizza is made with imported DOP San Marzano tomatoes, DOP Bufalo mozzarella from the Campania region of Italy, basil, Frantori Cutrera DOP, cold extracted olive oil, DOP parmigiano reggiano, and pesto. There was a lot of work going into this pizza to meet a certain European Standard. The pizza was pretty good. A few things I didn’t like about it, the center of the pizza get’s really soggy after a while, and some parts of the crust are slight over burnt and leaving it to be dry. What made up for it was the delicious toppings and sauce. Side Note: Large Wine Menu Free Parking Dining Menu is small. What Urban Spoon Thinks: Location : 2118 Burrard Street Vancouver,

Globes of soft, fresh burrata cheese served with sharp arugula and homemade, grilled bread are the perfect way to start a meal at NOVO Pizzeria & Wine Bar , Burrard Street’s most authentic (and conveniently located) Italian restaurant. Follow up with a summery Lemon Creme Brule (NOVO was wi

Hey guys! As you know, in addition to restaurants participating in Dine Out Vancouver 2015, some restaurants also participate in official events such as a neighbourhood Brunch Crawl organized by Vancouver Foodster . Hitting up 6 locations in 4 hours, Team Tastic went on a tasting adventure. Are samplers from these restaurants enough to entice us back for a round 2 or should you stick to singular dine outs? Read on to find out. Momento Coffee House Our first stop was serving Panama Esmeralda Coffee accompanied with a Pain Au Chocolat and a small Cup of Oats (with greek yogurt, chia seeds, and mini chocolate chips). I thought the coffee tasted great black. It tastes a little watery like a light roast but the scent of coffee beans is the highlight here. The cup of oats was a healthy serving of energy and the chia seeds swished around very nicely. The chocolate was quite bitter which I liked to help wake me up. Linh Cafe - French Cooking At Linh Cafe we started with a plate of Spicy Baguette (with pate and homemade sriracha hot sauce), and an order of Nem Spring Rolls (with pork, mushroom, shrimps, and glass noodles). The spring rolls tasted like the spring rolls you’d find at a good Vietnamese restaurant (like Song Huong ) but the Spicy Baguette was a pleasant surprise. Pate is hard if chilled in the fridge too long but here it was buttery smooth, indicating the speed of the restaurant is good for keeping pate out in the open. For dessert we were given a set of Peanut Macarons . These are large and denser than your usual bakery macarons so they were super filling and to plan accordingly we took a couple to go. Great dessert though.

Golden Beet Salad ($13): hazelnuts, goat cheese, blackberry vinaigrette I really enjoyed this salad, especially the hazelnuts and beets. The beets had the right taste – not too sour or sweet. I also liked the generous portion of this dish.

The pizza crust had my ideal level of char on it. I like a few black spots, but not too much. The crust was thin and chewy and it wasn’t soggy in the middle. I enjoyed everything else about this pizza.

NOVO Pizzeria is located on Burrard Street near West 4th Vancouver is a recently opened Italian restaurant and home to previously Incendio. Newly renovated this place is bright, well lit with a bar area, tables, booth seats and an open kitchen concept. That had to be one of the best meatballs I’ve ever had. The outside were well charred, and the inside were juicy and very flavorful. The pine nuts mixed in with the meat added a bit of texture to the balls. Overall, a great start, and I will definitely order this item the next time I am here.

After hearing our host rave about how the burrata cheese was amazing, we finally got a taste. As Novo Pizzeria owner Carmine Paradiso explained, the cows milk cheese is made from fresh mozzarella curds plunged into salted water, and then kneaded and pulled. The

Here comes the heavier dishes: Braised Beef Cheek Ravioli. My favourite. It has onion confit, black pepper and tarragon cream sauce, orange zest. I want a whole plate of this to myself.

I've been meaning to go to Novo for a very long time. Novo Pizzeria specializes in rustic, Italian, comfort food and Neapolitan pizza - thin crust pizza baked in a wood burning oven, creating a crust that it's crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. Once the pizza comes out of the oven, it's sprinkled with sea salt and drizzled with olive oil, creating the perfect canvas for the ultimate pizza. And that's what we were looking for, when we headed down to Novo on a Sunday afternoon - the perfect pizza. But before we ordered it, we had some amazing appetizers: The Sicilia Meat Balls ($8) - I've heard nothing but good things about this dish, and I'm happy to report that it lives up to the hype! yum, yum, yum… delicious tender meat, seasoned perfectly, the pine nuts add a whole new texture and taste, combined with the tanginess of the tomato sauce and the crispiness of the age cheddar… I tell you, these bad boys have got to be tasted to be believed. Well done Novo! Well done. Bur

Novo Pizzeria is located in Kitsilano near Burrard and West 5th Avenue. There is street parking and underground parking as well. Novo Pizzeria serves up Neapolitan pizza created in their wood burning oven. Owner Carmine Paradiso opened Novo in 2011 because he loves Neapolitan pizza and couldn’t find any authentic ones in Vancouver. M and I decided to give Novo a try after work one day. We have been to a bunch of other pizza places in town and wanted to see what people were talking about. The interior has a comfortable and relaxed setting. You ca see the open kitchen at the back of the restaurant. It’s pretty fun to see them making pizza and preparing all the other dishes. Burrata ($14) is served with arugula, oven-dried tomatoes, and house made bread. Oh boy, was this delicious! It had a soft texture, so, when you put it on the bread, it just oozes all over it. Highly recommended. Sicilian Meatballs ($10) also is packed with currants, pine nuts then topped with reggiano and marinara s

A single thin crust pizza accompanied by two fresh salads was the perfect quantity of food for three petite gals to share for a casual supper before a movie. The Novo Pizzeria and Wine Bar is adjacent to the Fifth Avenue Cinema complex where we planned to see The Theory of Everything. Although we got to the restaurant by 5:30 PM it was already almost full and we were lucky to get the last table free at the time. With very little negotiation needed we decided on the golden beet salad with hazelnuts, goat cheese and hazelnut vinaigrette and the Caprese salad of oven roasted tomatoes, balsamic pearls and pesto with fior di latte (a creamy mozzarella made from fresh cow's milk). Used to seeing Caprese salads with sliced tomatoes layered on a plate with mozzarella slices and balsamic vinegar sprinkled on top, the presentation of this version of Caprese salad was very inviting. We did not realize at first that the little black balls were pearls of balsamic in agar. If, like me, you didn't know the difference between mozzarella di bufala and mozzarella fior di latte, here is a link to an

Last week, I attended An Evening of Wine and Antipasti at Novo Pizzeria. It was the second in their Wine Club Series Dinner, where a winery is selected as a partner and dishes are created to complement each tasting.
Our first course was a Grilled Octopus Salad with some celery leaves, baby potatoes and slivers of red onions. A very light dressing of lemon and olive oil finished the dish. The octopus had a very meat texture and the potatoes were fork tender. The celery gave the dish a nice crunch but the grilled octopus really stole the show. This was paired with the 2011 Tommasi Vermentino, our only white of the evening. The wine had a nice nuttiness and a slightly oilier finish than a BC Pinot Grigio.

Many Vancouver-area restaurants are using Twitter to offer promotions and one that really inspired me to try them was NovoPizzeria. We headed there because they were offering free meatballs for following them. It's a small gesture, I agree, but it's incentive. And if it doesn't cost the restaurant too much but can draw people in, I think it's a wise move. So here are the free meatballs. There were two of us, so we got two. I guessing they give one per person. Makes me wonder what their normal portion would be if you ordered off the menu. But oh well, it's free, and it's good. I liked the marinara sauce and the light sprinkle of parmesan on top. Also part of the meatball were some currants and pine nuts. You can even see a whole one on the lower left. Knowing that we couldn't have two whole pizzas, we decided to try the Calamari with gremolata, pepperocino, lemon basil aioli. Tossed with diced red onions, the calamari was a perfect mix of tentacles and tubes. A generous squeeze of the l

If there was one secret to great food, it's passion. When someone really cares about the food they are serving, it shines through. This was my first time trying Neapolitan pizza. It's a thin crust pizza cooked in an old-fashioned wood burning stove that heats up to almost 600 Celsius, for 60 to 90 seconds. This is done to produce a crust that is crispy on the outside yet still moist and chewy. "Simplicity is beautiful" rings true at Novo. Overview The restaurant has a comfortable lounge-like atmosphere to it. The look is modern/hip but not excessively so. Only minutes away from Downtown, it's an appropriate hang out for yuppies. The kitchen has an open design, which is a great way for them to show off the large stove in the back for those that are curious for a look. Although I'm more of a pubs and dives type of fella, I'm not turned off by the look and feel of this place. What went in What didn't? The feast began with two filled antipasto dishes. The bread took centre stage. It was th

Having some really good pizza recently at Famoso, Novo Pizzeria and Wine Bar was another Neapolitan Pizza joint that has gotten really good reviews, and highly recommended by friends. I really wanted to try this place out for a while now. I finally got the chance by recommending it for a friends birthday dinner. Novo tweeted that they were happy to set up large parties, so I tweeted back, and they quickly grabbed my info. Although I changed my reservation and kept adding more people even two days before they were very accommodating. We had a large party of 18. Looking at the menu, I knew I wanted to try lots of things! Sadly I did miss out on a few, but I was still able to order 3 items for myself, and try some other pizzas as well. I ordered the Burrata to start because I’ve been hearing so much about it, and for my mains I ordered the Mushroom Pizza, and the Gnocchi with warm sage butter. I did enjoy my dishes. The Burrata came with some grilled bread, arugula, and tomatoes
