Review The Vancouver Fish Company - Vancouver

Happy hour prices are okay! Comparing it solely to typical buck a shuck in Toronto ($1 per oyster vs $2.5 per oyster) but the oyster taste was great! Food was good. We ordered a variety of dishes and all were great. Fresh and good! I wish the server was a bit more relaxed and not super professional as the place didn’t seam like a super fancy fine dining place. My friend said her grilled cheese was a bit burnt at the ends

I am not alone in loving happy hour. The smaller portions are just right. The maple prawns are such an interesting blend of sweet, spicy and nutty. The lingcod is deep fried but not greasy and so moist. Can’t go wrong. Wore warm clothes so I could sit outside and enjoy the view. Each table has ceiling heater. Attentive server, will definitely return

I LOVE THEIR HAPPY HOUR! The seafood was soooo fresh and we ordered ROUNDS of oysters, mussels and cocktail shrimps! Highly recommend dropping by here if you’re in Granville during their happy hour! Not only do you beat their dinner rush but you get to enjoy their fresh seafood at a discounted price!!

We had a great time happy hour! Small size oysters but perfect for me (size) and very fresh. Mussels are with amazing soup but not come with bread. Only 1hr we had this time but server was very nice and friendly.

Awful service. Passable food. We were seated at a table that was on a walkway. Initially, the food; (each one of the three of us ordered fish and chips - they “ran out” of halibut, so it was just cod;) came by quickly. I received my one mug of coffee after 15 min. The fish had a lot of batter, very little flakes of fish. After 1 hr, our server had not bothered to come by and ask if we were ok or needed anything. I asked twice for a coffee refill to some other servers and was totally ignored! Another server came by to pick up empty dishes and I asked for some hot water, which he brought right away. We ordered another piece of fish, which took more than 35 min and after we asked twice! When we asked for the bill, we didn’t have to wait even 3 min. Don’t think I’ll bother ever going there, and will not be recommending this place to anyone.

Very disappointing happy hour. My understanding of it was that certain drinks and food items are discounted within a set period of time. The happy hour menu looks good, the beer on tap was good and was at a discounted price. However the "Bites" were a huge rip-off. The maple walnut prawns at $12 for 3 pathetic prawns glazed with an uninspired flavorless sauce, cod bites looked like they were the leftover crumbs at the bottom of the deep fryer for $10 and the masterpiece was the cocktail prawns at $9 for 3 cold prawns. I bet that these were plucked from a cocktail platter bought from No Frills for $8! Poor value here, avoid the happy hour as there's nothing to be happy about.

Great spot for happy hour! The happy hour prices are pretty good, otherwise it's definitely on the spendy side. The staff was very friendly. We came 15 minutes before the end of happy hour and they seated us and took our order quickly so we could still get the great deal. The outdoor seating was right by the water, which was fantastic! I had the clam chowder, which was just ok.

4.5 stars! Great service and food. Really enjoyed the seafood hot pot and halibut cake from the dine out menu. Presentation of the halibut cake was ok but it tastes fabulous. The tartar sauce was just right not too sweet to help compliment the savoury cake. The seafood hot pot has a tad of spiciness to it and gave it an extra kick. The seafood chowder and seafood linguine from the all day menu were also very palatable. The seafood chowder is also slightly spicy which I thoroughly enjoyed but it might not be for everyone, especially those who do not enjoy spicy food. Only the cheesecake dessert from the dine out menu was a let down. Cheesecake itself is already quite heavy and combining with a thick chocolate fudge topping is over the top. *Been back here a few times already. We would go to adventure with kids and come over for lunch. Kid friendly restaurant with family washroom. Hailbut fish and chips is one of our favourites. The kids love the chicken steps and cod bites.

It was our first and last time going to the Vancouver Fish Company. We went on Friday, Sept. 29th. The mussel and clam bowl was outstanding but not enough to warrant us coming back. We ordered the Fish & Chips, Miso Sablefish and the Sablefish. I found 2 bones in my Miso Sablefish but my 11 year old daughter found 10 bones (8 large and 2 small) in her one piece of sablefish. I told the server about the bones when she was picking up my daughter's plate. She told me that sablefish has bones. I stated that I know that and we eat sablefish a lot and never have we found 10 bones in one piece of fish. She just stated that she would let the chef know. We have eaten Sablefish well over 40 times in total at Bridges Upstairs Restaurant, Cactus Club and Horizons. We have never found a bone in our Sablefish. The server never apologized. I private messaged the Vancouver Fish Company on Friday. Someone read my message but has never apologized or contacted me. I guess this restaurant doesn't care about their customers. Go elsewhere....to a restaurant who cares about their customers.

Our server spoiled the entire experience despite the food being delicious...not only was he miserable and surly he reached across my plate multiple times to serve the other patrons at the table instead of walking around; he cleared plates that people weren't finished with, without even asking if they were done; no surf n turf option because they were out of tenderlion; when asked how many prawns came with the appetizer he flippantly answered "a handful"; he also made us feel rushed and started shutting down the patio around us even though the place was still supposed to be open for another hour!! I would only be back if that rude French server was not there!! Extremely disappointing after traveling all the way from Ontario for this!

My boyfriend and I came for a quick bite around 3pm...too early for a full on dinner. Once the waiter realized we weren't drinking alcoholic beverages and only wanted a small bite to eat.....he barely gave us the time of day. I ordered the seafood chowder.....for 12.99 I received 2 clams, 2 mussels, and some unidentified fish( it was small). At least they could have faked it with more veggies but they didn't even do that. I ate my small portion and left the broth.....honestly looked like I hadn't touched it. My boyfriend ordered the salad and had a side of chicken with it. It came to 23.99 and his comment was that I made a better salad! I would have voiced our concerns to our server but he didnt ask us how we enjoyed our meal, didn't ask us if we wanted anything else, and just gave us the bill. I will never come back.
Bianca Myddleton
We ordered the surf and turf and they were out of tenderloin. How does that happen? Then we settled on the seafood platter. The food was bland the only thing with any seasoning were the roasted potatoes. The salmon was over cooked, the scallops only seared on one side. The crab was dry and over cooked. Overall this meal was not worth $89.00. The service was as bland as the food.

The staff were wonderful and very attentive we had the sockeye salmon burger and fries and they were delicious. The server even recommended a local beer and it was great. We watched the pirate ship leave port from the restaurant and everyone had a fun time. Lovely place!

I went there for a birthday party larger group. I had the fish trio which everything on my plate was very cold and had no flavor. I waited over half hour for a coffee after asking a few different servers. Half my table got great service and the rest of us didn’t. Maybe they shouldn’t include gratuity on the bill the servers should earn it so we can all get great service!! Don’t know if I would go back again.

Me and my best friend ate here for Dine Out Vancouver and the food was very good! Attentive service and a really wonderful evening. I would recommend the menu to everyone 😊

Had lunch today with my bff Kristine! The food is excellent! We had 4 pieces of Tacos and mussels for appetizer! The tuna tacos are great! It melts in our mouth! The sauce of mussels are heavenly!!! The main course: Tuna & shrimp bowl and 2 piece fish & chips... the taste and presentation are perfect and satisfies our hunger!!! Server is awesome! Coffee is always on top!!! Overall... perfect and greatly recommended!!!! The price is right!

Great food & service. Our server ROXY was outstanding and always there when we needed her. Loved the citrus forward take on coleslaw that accompanied our fish & chips. The patio couch made for a loungy place to relax and enjoy the sun and some beers.

Amazing !! Beautiful place, excellent service and delicious food. I made a surprise dinner there and Agatha (the Manager) was really friendly and helpful. Also all the VFC were really corteous. My menu was prawns, tacos of fish, linguini, paella, trio of fish, lobster and banana pie. You should visit !!

This is the 2's time we have been here, the first time was great but today the Prawns were raw, we had to ask for finger bowls, garlic bread was stale, mojito was undrinkable-sent it back twice still came back with no sugar, salmon was dry and tasteless and the broccoli were raw...
Rebecca Johnson
Had a great time there! Enjoyed happy hour eats and drinks and excellent service from our bartender Luke! Friend and I tried oysters, fish tacos, fish & chips, and salmon pot pie. All were delicious! First time, can't wait to go back in the summer and enjoy that patio!
Marg Lee
Three of us had lunch there today and we're excellently looked after by Julien. He went through the menu thoroughly and recommended the best wine. Despite the wet day we had a very enjoyable experience.
Heather Reddish
Was our first time there and loved it. The service was awesome and the food was wonderful. The right flavor and perfect portions. Will definitely come back again and tell me friends and family .

We had a great time on the patio. The food was great and so was our server
Tina Dee
Had dinner there tonight. Great food and fantastic service from our waiter Julian. He made our visit memorable and we will definitely return again.

If you order the most expensive dish at a regular pub that is what you get, I expected better from VFC

I worked here as a hostess. And the restaurant refused to pay me my $100 tips on my last paycheck.
J-doug131
Clam chowder had good potato-y like consistency but could've used more seafood. Humboldt squid definitely didnt disappoint! Excellent presentation and taste. Good quality. Server was professional and well versed. I would definitely come back. Great patio seats with water views.
Joyce Krobel
Tried the oysters & seafood platter——I wasn’t disappointed! Oysters were so fresh they’re sweet! Loved the perfectly cooked halibut & scallops specially. If I lived in BC I’d definitely keep coming back here.

We went for dinner this evening with another couple and couldn’t wait to express what a terrific meal we had and excellent service by our server Eliis! We started with the signature prawns..delicious! Two had halibut (yummy) one short ribs (melt in your mouth) and one had seared scallops (perfect) we all thought it definitely called for a return visit! Go you will not regret it!

Nice ambience on waterfront. Ordinary food. We choose some starters and all was ordinary. A quick eat place. Service was good but need to spruce up on the food.
Another Granville Island restaurant I have previously visited before, and am now back to preview the Dine Out menu for. Truth be told I found their summer patio nice, but after my first and latest visit, I would pass on their pricy seafood appetizers again. Although today’s second go had me reassessing things. This was the last stop on our media preview tour of Dine Out, Granville Island edition.
Eating With Kirby
The other dessert is Pumpkin Sticky Toffee Pudding with maple bourbon custard, candied walnuts. It kind of reminded me of a dense bread pudding which if you think about it, can never be bad. Rich, comforting, carbs. Yup, that’s what this was.

All in all, I would highly recommend Edible Canada for their boldness in cooking with unconventional ingredients, their dedication to educating tourists and locals on real ‘Canadian cuisine’, and their execution of all of these dishes as it was one of the best DOVF experiences I’ve had.

Dine Out Vancouver 2017 is just right around the corner featuring 280+ restaurants this year. One of the participating restaurants is the Vancouver Fish Company on Granville Island. With stunning waterfront views, the Vancouver Fish Company is offering both lunch ($29) and dinner ($40) Dine Out menus.
Pork_ninjas
I have always had the impression that Vancouver Fish Company was a fish counter but it’s actually a sit down restaurant. My bad! This was stop number three on our Dine Out 2017 Preview tour. For $40 per person, you get to some fresh seafood in each course. . VFC Seafood Chowder

I've been to this place a few times throughout the years for afternoon drinks and appetizers, and for the most part, I have had decent experiences. However, during my most recent visit, I went for dinner with my family and was terribly disappointed. To begin, we had to wait around 15-20 minutes to be seated when we could clearly see multiple empty tables in the restaurant. According to the hostesses, there wasn't enough wait staff to handle any more seatings. What confused me then, was why the restaurant found it necessary to have THREE hostesses standing at the front of the place doing nothing but telling customers that they couldn't be seated in an unfilled restaurant!

When we were finally seated, things seemed to be turning up. Our waitress was very friendly and sweet. We ordered oysters and calamari to start and they were quite good, although the arrival time was not great. Things took a turn for the worst when our entrees arrived and I found myself with a mouthful of flavourless fish taco with a bone, which I picked out onto my side plate! When I opened up my taco, I found it wasn't just an odd bone that was missed, but a whole row of bones sticking out of the meat. I told the waitress, she apologized, and then said she would bring out a new order along with a cup of their seafood chowder on the house. A few minutes later, our waitress returned to the table and asked me for my side plate with the bones I had removed. Apparently she needed to bring it to the kitchen for what she referred to as "evidence"... Shortly after, my cup of chowder arrived and it must have been my lucky day, because within my first few scoops, I found yet another piece of fish in my mouth with bones! At this point, our waitress seemed very embarrassed by the quality of food I had been served and let me know that my meal would be removed from our bill.

Overall, my experience was not good and I don't think I will be back in the future. It's unfortunate that the allocation of staff was terrible and the food was not at par with the quality of the waterfront location and beautiful environment.

Location location location. Obviously, ideal spot for this restaurant. However as time has shown in this exact location that average restaurants still don't make it. This place has been here for a couple years. My experience was very average. Most important was the Sable fish was cooked well, however the entire dish lacked any flavor and my potatoes were pruny. To top off, there was way too much better melted on this dish before eating it and completely over powered the dish and made it greasy.

Stopped by the Vancouver Fish Company for some brunch on the patio. The restaurant is located near the entrance of Gramville Island. The Smoked Salmon Benedict tasted good but I'm sure there were better items on the menu.

Granville island has a serenity environment. Best part of all is the choices of food you can have in one spot. Decor is nice, there's a area out in the corner to tie your dog, or just get take out.

Brunch is a decent experience. Vsc hash, it has sable fish, salmon, smoke salmon and shrimp in a hash mix with soft poached eggs and hollandaise sauce. Great start to the day!
The omelette with halibut and veggies is nice. Great texture and lovely flavors. Very fresh seafood here. Overall it's a safe bet, I would like to come back for dinner.

I am a big fan of Granville Island so I often walk by Vancouver Fish Company. For some reason, the interiors has always felt a little uninviting when looking in from the outside (although the patio is very nice) and so it never really motivated me to go in until I had some guests from out of town and were looking for somewhere more seafood focused and yet could be seated more comfortably. I was pleasantly surprised at the food we ordered. The fish and chips and the mussels I had were very good, well priced, and the portions were large. Overall, the meal we had was decent but not particularly mind blowing. The space inside definitely felt a little tired - I think an update on the interiors would definitely enhance the dining experience.

Overall I thought the dishes on the Ocean Wise Festival menu were well put together and flavours worked. On top of that, you know the ingredients were sourced in a sustainable way. My favourites were Oysters, Haidacore Tuna Tacos and Salish Sea Boil. I’ve never eaten at the Vancouver Fish Company before, but after this menu tasting, I’m intrigued to go back for its regular menu.

Went here for lunch, had the VFC wrap with chicken and a side ceasar salad. Salad was ok. Nothing special about it. The wrap, chicken was good but not alot of taste. The greens in the wrap, lets just say I removed them from the second half. Over all. It was... Ok. Nothing special. Not worth the price.

Vancouver Fish Company is a restaurant located near the front of Granville Island that opened up about a year ago in the former spot of Whet Kitchen. On the inside, it doesn’t look like they’ve done much redecorating as it has the same vibe of wood tables and black booths. We started our lunch with some refreshing freshly-made lemonade.

The Vancouver Fish Company - Granville Island, $40 Dineout

The first time I went here was back in 2015 for their dineout menu. The appies weren't particularly good - beet salad with the beets being underseasoned and slightly undercooked, and a scallop dish, with only half of a scallop actually on the dish. The mains however, were expertly cooked with very nicely crisped skin and steam escaping from the center. Delicious sauces with enough acidity helped round out the dish. They also served a nicely textured creme brulee for dessert. This year 2016 however was not good at all.

lobster corn dog
cornmeal-battered lobster "hot dog", creamed kale, ballpark tarragon mustard

Notes: Innovative dish. Very hot batter, crisp and fresh, not overly thick nor heavy. Ground lobster filling was authentic, flavourful

smoked sablefish chowder
Juan de Fuca sablefish, bacon, nettle, horseradish lemon cream, lobster oil (GF)

Rating: C+

Notes: Good texture and smoothness for the soup, decent temp. Fresh sablefish was added very nice, but barely warm - not good. Flavours were balanced and engaging.

VFC seafood pasta
local wild salmon & rockfish, house-made chorizo, garlic, melted leeks, chili flakes, white wine, fresh tomatoes, parsley

Rating: D+

Notes: Both pieces of fish were overcooked by a couple of minutes with the interior dry. Pasta on the otherhand was underdone by a couple of minutes - slightly hard and chewy. The only welcoming feature was the spicy chorizo, but the whole dish didn't come together at all. Hard pasta + chorizo + dry fish = excessive chewiness. Also there was barely any sauce/liquid to wet the palate.

cedar plank salmon
wild Sockeye, wild rice barley pilaf, Hannah Brook greens, cedar jelly & roasted vegetable vinaigrette (GF)

(not my dish)

Notes: Salmon was barely warm yet still dry in the inside. Pilaf was excessively salted.

peanut butter mousse
chocolate pudding, caramelized banana, peanut crunch (GF) (V)

Rating: D+

Notes: The initial 4 spoonfuls the peanut butter flavour were enticing. It tasted like a milder, less bold flavoured Reese peanut butter cup. About a 1/3 way through the flavour became boring and predictable. There was only 1 banana chip, with 90% being mousse and a bit of chocolate cookie crumble on top, not quite balanced. Only finished 2/3 and gave up.

sorbet
spiced rum, compressed pineapple, coconut ice, tangerine dust (GF) (V)

Notes: fresh cut pineapple but hardly compressed. A nice palate cleanser at the end of meal.

The beer was warm and flat. The food arrived late, and to be honest, you could find a better meal in the public market for a quarter of their price.

I came here for lunch today and my experience was amazing! The waiters were extremely knowledgable and friendly and checked back with us a couple times to make sure we were enjoying our food. We ordered the fish and chips as well as the raw oysters, despite some warnings from online articles about eating raw oysters during this season. Thank gosh it turned out well because neither of us got sick and they were delicious! Although the bill came to around $37 each, the overall ambiance of eating port side and the chic table settings made the meal excellent! Totally recommend this place!

Just at VFC tonight. It has a great view and great atmosphere. Unfortunately, although that draws the customers, their food is somewhat to be desired. We waited over an hour for the food, even though the patio was full, but the rest of the restaurant was pretty empty. We ordered their special of the day which was spot prawns - there were 3 spot prawns and the rest mini-shrimp probably from a can for $30. We also ordered their appetizer platter for 2-4 people...it came out cold and when the server apologized for the delay, we asked why it was delayed, there was no response. I would only go back for a cold beer to enjoy the view!

Just the wrong atmosphere. This has to be one of the best locations on Granville Island, and it has been for all the previous restaurants in this location.
The current operator is trying to be a high end restaurant for the rich tourists, but obviously doesn't care about their potential regular patrons that will keep him in business when the one-timer tourists are gone. Why can't they offer a more comfort food / casual menu while still using their high standards? Was in yesterday, a fairly warm day. All of the "management" staff were wearing long sleeve shirts or even suit jackets and looking so out of place for a restaurant that doesn't even have air conditioning. Folks, try and relax and dress more appropriately. Nothing wrong with short sleeves in this weather. As far as your prices are concerned, you may be offering good food but who is going to buy it at these prices? The place was nearly empty yesterday, all except a half full patio which would normally be packed for the former operators. Its a shame that such a long time location has been ruined for all of us that actually live here. Be more aware of your neighbours.

Great Patio but..... Atmosphere is lovely but disappointing prices considering the portion size. The charcuterie plate for 2 was more like a plate for 1 and the prawn salad was really disappointing as it was a few prawns on ONE piece of lettuce with a sprinkling of rice noodles. I think it was like $18 or something. Unreal!

Incredible patio experience!. We had an incredible experience as we sat on the patio and enjoyed the excellent food, great service and sunshine! The Vancouver Fish Co. is highly recommended!!! We were welcomed in an open and inviting manner...we asked to see the menu and the individual that greeted us was very accommodating. The restaurant smelled so delicious! We were invited to sit outside in the sun and the service was immediate and excellent. We enjoyed drinks while we waited for our appies and meal to arrive. The servers were very social with us and kept us feeling like we were the only ones in the restaurant. We watched so many incredible plates of food go by that we were perfectly ready to receive ours...we had calamari and it was probably the best we've had! We will return just for this appy!!! The crispy chick peas and poppadum we a special treat!
The smoked salmon pizza was off the charts!
We would like to thank the Vancouver Fish Co. for serving us the best meal we had on our trip to Vancouver! We will definitely be back and look forward to it!

Highly recommended to anyone looking for an incredible meal!

Steve & Chris

Very disappointing & Beware the 18% automatic gratuity. We booked a table for six people for Saturday evening prior to attending the Arts Club Theatre. We were looking for a change from our usual choices on Granville Island such as The Sandbar, Bridges and Edible Canada where we've always enjoyed very good meals. This restaurant appeared to have a good rating. At the time of making the reservation no mention was made of a policy of an 18% gratuity for a group of six, however; had we been advised of this we would have gone elsewhere for sure. When we arrived our choice of seating was either a semi-circular booth or a high table, neither appealing; we would have preferred a regular table but there wasn’t one even though the restaurant was barely occupied at the time of our arrival. The place certainly lacked inviting ambiance and the service was not great to say the least. We had to ask our waiter whether there were any daily specials & he reported back from the kitchen that there were none, yet upon leaving we saw the board outside advertising their specials. As this is a fish restaurant, we all ordered various fish dishes. The Thai prawn curry wasn't at all good according to one member of our group, while another had the "fresh" Pacific ling that was by no means fresh, and tepid and rather tasteless. My husband had the fish and chips of which he said the fish was too heavily battered and not particularly good. The poached ling with mushrooms and clams and Albacore tuna dishes the rest of us ordered were not of the standard we expected, especially for the price. At no time were we offered a basket of bread and we had to ask for condiments. We were subsequently told of the automatic 18% gratuity when we were about to pay. Only because we vehemently protested was this policy waived - We would hardly say that six people constitute a large group warranting applying such a steep mandatory tip, particularly given the poor quality of the meal and the service. Needless to say, none of us will ever be returning to this restaurant.

Pre show dinner date....no thanks.... My girlfriend and i went here for a pre show snack before theatre sports on a Saturday night. We sat at the bar as only one table was left in the lounge and wasn't to our liking. The bartender greeted us promptly as he wasn't too busy at the time and seemed to check back regularly. The other service bartender was less attentive but could have at least appeared to like his job.

We had oysters and Caesar salad. At least half of the shells were chipped or broken at the edge, leaving some shards in the oyster. Signs of an inexperienced or rushed and careless oyster shucker. The Caesar - possibly the most boring Caesar salad we've ever had. No croutons no lemon wedge no fresh pepper no fresh cheese on top. "Bacon" bits were sparse. The dressing i believe was from a kraft bottle. No flavour. This is such a staple salad and it missed every mark.

The wine list was predominantly BC which we like. Nice to see support of the local wineries.

The team overall seemed largely disconnected and didn't work well as a unit in the lounge. When we had to leave we sat for some time with empty plates and glasses near the service well. We had to ask the service well bartender to get the bill as all of his help was gone.

Its not likely we'll be back to eat. We may sit on the patio in summer for a drink but otherwise there's options on the island for better food.

Great place. I had not been there before but decided to go there for Valentines day. It was busy, but the service was great, the good was awesome (they ran out of steaks but me and my girlfriend weren't interested in them). Try the Potted Crab and the Buttered Ling Cod. Each both those were unique in their own right. Highly recommend this place.

For a fishcompanyin Granville your Oyster selection is terrible!!! So is your wine list, won't be back :(

Rock Fish and Chips. Light, crispy batter wrapped around the freshest fish. Great skinny fries. Perfectly tangy tartar sauce and lightly dressed, crisp coleslaw.

Great New Year's Eve 6 Course Dinner. The food was exceptional. I’d highly recommend visiting. We were a group of four and had the occasion to share a few bites of many courses. The ling cod and scallops were perfect as were the non fish options, steak & frites, lamb and vegetarian options, eggplant parmesana. We had a lovely time and enjoyed the food immensely. We had a lovely New Year’s Eve 6 course special. The space is beautiful, our server Ben charmingly humorous and the owners and chef welcoming and friendly.

The fish taco appetizer was amazing!

Their chocolate bread pudding was delicious for dessert

Great atmosphere and delicious food. I love this place. The heated outdoor patio overlooking the harbour is great. I had the mussels and the clam chowder and was impressed by how plump and succulent the mussels were and how flavorful the chowder was. I would definitely come back. This place is awesome and right at the entrance of granville island.

Awesome food, location & service!. Was initially surprised to see that 'Whet' had closed down at this same location two weeks prior, but was thrilled when I found it that VFC had opened in its place, with an extensive seafood menu; had the Trio of Fish for dinner (seared tuna, sockeye, smoked sablefish over sauteed veggies) - the presentation was amazing and the fish was cooked to perfection! Our server was very attentive and pleasant. I would highly recommend trying this new seafood place on Granville Isle.

Overall, this is a great dining experience. The restaurant is spacious and very open with the crazy high ceilings. The service was friendly and speedy so it's definitely a place I would return for dinner sometimes.

Hi everyone! The 2015 Dine Out season is upon us once more, so let’s get cracking on some $18/28/38 prixe fixe menus. First up is the Vancouver Fish Company ($28 lunch), a new restaurant on Granville Island. Does the seafood ring true and tender or should you stick to older fish houses? Read on to find out Food: My appetizer was the Dungeness Crab Rangoon (with baby shrimp, shallots, cream cheese, and red pepper bisque). This was akin to Asian fried dumplings but with some premium ingredients. It was a joy to swirl the pepper bisque around these fried bags of flavourful crab and bite into. Another appetizer Team Tastic enjoyed was the VFC Clam Chowder (with fresh clams and bacon-wrapped bacon!). This was a hot and fresh soup with the right amount of clams inside. The bowl was a hearty serving and great value for dineout seeing as its regular price is $12. My choice of entree was the Pan-seared Bowen Island Sockeye (with tomato risotto). What a treat! The salmon was very tender and juicy (though not as juicy as what I’ve had at Farmer’s Apprentice). The risotto was a good complement and the two made a very good pairing to swirl and mix together. The Rock Fish and Chips was our second entree. This is essentially a premium fish and chips (none of that basic cod) with a side of fries and tartar. I can’t say this was a very good choice as the batter was quite soggy and didn’t hold its shape very well. In addition, the Rock Fish was quite chunky and thick which I don’t feel is my style of fish and chips; the soggy batter didn’t help. To finish off, my dessert was the Flour-less Chocolate Cake . With a dallop of ice cream on the side, this dense cake was a welcome end to the meal. If you can imagine a thick brownie with ice cream on top, this cake isn’t too far from that idea, so dig in.

... insanely crisp and divine w any dip; essentially the crisp exterior that I love on the Chinese deep fried silky rolls...

Our first meal for Dineout Vancouver 2015 occurred at the Vancouver Fish Company, near the entrance to Granville Island. This place opened less than year ago, occupying the space previously home to Whet (and Sammy J Peppers before that).

We had reservations, but it probably wasn’t necessary, as the place was not that busy. Particularly for weekend at lunch. We went with the Dineout lunch set menus. This started with two appetizers...
