Review Scoozi's - Vancouver

Howie Outerbridge
Stopped in for a quick dine-in lunch at the Curry Hut Indian Bistro and had a great experience. The lunch menu is priced right, healthy portions, and with very flavourful food. I had the lamb seekh kebab meal and was happy with how it turned out. Nice to have this as an option downtown now that folks are returning to work. Thanks for the great service and warm welcome as well!

This was the first time I had been to this new restaurant. The previous restaurant in the exact location was a hangout joint for my friends and me. We went for lunch, and it was pleasant lunch. The prices were excellent. Manu was short and lunch focussed. I personally like that. All the dishes were under $14. Portions are huge. I was with my friend, and we both couldn’t finish our plates. I liked the taste, and it wasn’t too oily or heavy. The only downside I saw was service. I think they should train their staff more. This is not a complaint more like a suggestion. I would defiantly go back, and I would like to recommend this restaurant to you as well!

DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND EAT HERE!!! The service may be a little slow with the two young girls. But the food totally makes up for it! Try the Indian Chai tea! You will fall in love with this food! I want this restaurant to succeed!

The food here it's just delicious. My favorite was the Mango Chicken. The naan bread soo good. Also order Tandori chicken and lamb vindaloo. Everything was so flavorful. The services was also great the waitress very nice and friendly and the music makes you want to go up and dance

The worst egg benedict I have ever had. It literally came in 1 minute which makes me think it was premade. First eggs were hard boiled, then it was almost fully boiled. 2nd time they didn't even change the plate and changed the eggs and left bits of perious eggs on my plate. Potatoes were downright inedible. Never going back here again. Left more than half of my food uneaten

Loved the atmosphere and of course the food from here!! It's really nice to sit with all of those plants they have, especially when everything else you can see is concrete. The food was beautiful and delicious and also really great that you can get breakfast all day. Definitely gonna be coming back here on my next trip over.

It's an absolute star. Scoozis is a cozy Resturant with tasty meals, fresh drinks , reasonable price and top of all of that, friendly staff that care a lot. Definitely, I will go there again.

We went to dinner on a Saturday night, the place was not busy. The service was great, the food was outstanding. The best I've had I would highly recommend this place if you want good Indian food. We had 6 dishes and every one of these was delicious. We had the rice pudding was was also great. If you are looking for good Indian food, this is the place.

You know that scene in the movie "2001: A Space Odyssey" when Frank Poole is in the spacesuit at the end of the movie and is going into the black hole monolith thing, and sees the space baby that gives him enlightenment into the next dimension? Yeah, imagine you are Frank Poole, you are actually there, and the space baby that brings you to a higher plane of existence is breakfast. Yes. Breakfast. But not just any breakfast. The breakfast nirvana that awaits you is Scoozi's at Howe and West Hastings. This is run by a Greek guy who takes breakfast to epic places. I ordered the breakfast pizza which is one of those things that looks good on paper but never works out. In Scoozi's world (actually his name is Michael) a breakfast pizza is a home run freaking perfect little guy that has all breakfast ingredients but with a spinach based sauce and a tiny bit of char on the crust and top and is the opposite of greasy and heavy. Pardee ordered a salmon Benedict which is usually either really good or really bad, but this one was neither. It was hands down the best Benedict I have ever tasted, with a hollandaise that was more of an aoli, sushi grade salmon, and eggs that were timed down to the second. With the Benedict was charred and herbed lemon potatoes (naturally) that were so good that I haven't a hope in hell of replicating them, and a beautiful tiny fruit plate that looked like it took twenty minutes to put together. We finished with a spanikopita deconstruction with a filling of apples, oatmeal, and marscapone (I think) which, like that hot girl with the funny laugh you pick up in the bar, sounds so wrong but tastes so right. I always brag that the mark of a good breakfast is one that's better than mine; not only was this better than mine it's better than I could *ever hope* to make. The unbelievable skill shown in the food is what prompted me to write this review, and I hope this guy makes millions of dollars and never leaves this location. My last request on my deathbed will be breakfast from Scoozi's. Breakfast is the Space Baby.

Actually the best breakfast I've ever had, and I've eaten many things. If you're near this place go and get the salmon Benedict asap!!

Scoozis was recommended by the concierge and was only a few blocks from the Delta Suites. This Greek restaurant had a charm all its own. We were greeted by the owner and shown to a "special" booth since there was nothing available outside. He welcomed us into his restaurant and treated us as old friends. The service was excellent and the food delicious. We started with Mimosas and Dennis had their special breakfast casserole, while I had the Eggs Florentine--their vegetarian version of Eggs Benedict. I have to say that their Hollandaise was the best I've had and I prefer the spinach to the Canadian Bacon of the Eggs Benedict. The server cleared the table and brought us a special treat of delicate layers of pastry served with honey and fruit.

We used to eat at Scoozis years ago in the 1980's when we worked downtown. We are retired now and live to far away to visit it often. When we do eat there we are thrilled with the food still. He has not lost his touch, great food and some fruit on the side everytime. Well worth the visit

Def a good place. The environment is so nice and relaxing, with it being a slow night, close to closing and all the staff gone..the owner still let my friend and I in and eat. Reasonable prices and good portion sizes. Def two thumbs up.

Amazing food, fun atmosphere, great service and fair prices. Definatley recommend this place!

My partner and I decided to try Scoozis for the first time today, and we were both very impressed. The moment we walked in we were greeted by a portly gentleman who we assume is the owner. It was as though we had walked into a small piece of Greece, right in the heart of downtown Vancouver. The food was mouthwatering and prepared to perfection! The quality of the meal, the friendly and engaging staff/ownership and the ambiance made it a 5-star experience. We will be back!

Great breakfast and great service. Cozy setting with lots of nice touches such as steamed milk for your coffee and the little cinnamon strudel type dish they bring at the end. Love their eggs benny!

Excellent service and food, nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Would love to return, it's a pity we live in the U.K. ,

Great food, good service, lovely decor and warm ambience. Definitely worth visiting again,

I absolutely love Scoozis. Hands down, best eggs Benedict you will likely ever have! The service from the staff is incredible. Everyone is so friendly, and it's the genuine kind of friendly, not the kind that reeks of "I'm smiling for the tip, I hope you get hit by a bus really though!". I've yet to experience the evening Menu at Scoozis, but that's just because the breakfast is so next level that I don't really need to! You owe it to yourself to try this place out!

Very friendly staff. And amazing breakfast!! Thanks for having us!

Hello hello! Nat and I decided to go to Scoozis for brunch on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Scoozis is located on Howe street close to Waterfront station. It has a mom and pop type feel and has been around for years! You could really tell when you walk through the door how much of a family everyone who works there are and they treat you like family too!

This is a casual Mediterranean joint located near the Waterfront serving up a pretty large menu of breakfast and lunch items. I had their Meatballs and Alfredo Deep Dish (it was a tossup between their lasagna and their deep dish; I decided to get their deep dish since it's more unique). While I wasn't overly impressed with the deep dish, I quite enjoyed their meatballs. I'm also quite impressed by their service: the food arrives quickly and there is a very friendly gentleman (whom I think is the owner) who greets all the owners. All in all, this is a place that I'd recommend checking out.

1/2 Dozen Meatballs ($11.95):
4/5
This came with tzatziki, warmed pita, and some greens. The meatballs themselves were quite tender and relatively juicy, and was well-seasoned with just a slight bit of spice. I absolutely loved the pita bread, which was warm, fluffy, and had a slightly chewy texture. There was a generous amount of tzatziki, which was thick and quite tangy, and went well with the meatballs and bread.

Alfredo Deep Dish ($17.95):
3/5
This was basically a casserole that's filled with vegetables (tomatoes, artichokes, zucchini, spinach), ham, cheese and other stuff that I can't really discern. The vegetables were pretty well-seasoned and flavourful, and I really enjoyed the cheese, which provided great richness. I do wish that there could be more ham, and the dish was also a bit watery from all the vegetables.

Summary:
Food: 3.5/5
Price: 3.5/5
Service: 4/5
Overall: 3.5/5
Recommendations: Meatballs

First, I would like to say that for those of you enjoyed it please understand that this was based on my experience. I went with 2 of my friends because of its excellent reception on Yelp. The reviews were raving about the service and food but we felt both were mediocre or worse. Our waiter, who might have been the owner, was not only slow and unattentive but had an attitude that made us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. We got the hummus as an appetizer which was alright, the bread that came with it was fresh and quite tasty but the hummus felt average and didn't justify its price. Other than that, we ordered two steaks and the Spanakopita. The steaks were well done and were extremely hard to cut even though we asked our waiter to have it done medium. Moreover, it was overly chewy and dull in flavor. The sides were absolutely terrible with basic boiled vegetables and tiny roasted potatoes. The size of the steak was about 6 inches which felt ridiculous for the price. It was much more acceptable after using the lemon and a lot of black pepper. As much as I wanted to confront the waiter and ask him for another steak, I couldn't do so since I didn't have the time. What's even more frustrating is that the restaurant was empty yet our waiter was so slow and unfriendly. The Spanakopita was one of the only redeeming factors but again the quantity was very less. The other redeeming factor would be the cinnamon candy the waiter gave us at the end LOL. To say that it was not worth the money would be a huge understatement. Might have gone to the overly popular cactus club and have had a 100× better experience. This concludes my review. I understand some people would be upset with this but I came to this place because of the Yelp reviews and our experience was terrible.

TL;DR: Horrible experience, don't order the steak, expensive, low quantity, horrible service, horrible service

Decent smoked salmon eggs Benny, but where is everyone? Restaurant was quite empty for a weekend lunch.
The hollandaise I thought was a bit bland and too creamy (vs buttery) tasting, but the eggs were perfectly soft-poached and the salmon was sizeable and delicious. The sides (potatoes and fruit) were nothing special.
Probably won't come back unless I need breakfast without a wait in the area.

So....a year ago I discovered this place by the great ratings. I have been back 5 times (EVERY time I have been in Vancouver in the last year and I am sad to say I don't plan on going back.

I was blown away by my first experience and the quality of the food and the entire experience that I didn't mind paying a little bit more for breakfast. Eggs benny on fresh baked croissants, Greek potatoes, a lovely side of fruit and fresh coffee with steamed milk. Heaven couldn't have made better breakfast! Apple dessert complimentary.

Then they cut out the fresh baked croissants...... Ok, fine it was still ok. Still good quality. My friend even commented he would be back.

Next trip the portions were smaller...less potatoes and one coffee refill. Ok....

Next trip the service was practically non existent...very obvious they had new staff. she didn't take our order for 1/2 an hour and we couldn't get her to come back to save our life including with our bill after asking several times. People were waiting for a table for a long time standing over us eating. Had the prices gone and there was a serious potato shortage?! No sign of Apple dessert.

On Wednesday I went back and I had hopes that maybe my last experience was an off day, but the food has gone downhill in just one year. Waitress asked if we wanted more coffee then disappeared for 20 minutes. 4 measly small cut pieces of potato on the plate (potato is not an expensive way to make a plate look full), very small amount of hollandaise. Tiny grapes in the fruit salad that looked like blueberries but were full of seeds. The Apple dessert came as we were putting our coats on to leave and looked like someone massacred it ...nothing like the lovely presentation the first time I came.

For the increasing price and the poor service staff. Such a shame to let things slide when customer service was what sold me on coming back. My mom still talks about the eggs benny on fresh baked croissants. Too bad!

S S
I ordered the eggs benny to go, asked for soft poached, no ham and no fruit extra potatoes. Eggs were rock hard, and its not like i had to walk far i literally work 5 minutes away, i asked for soft so they would be medium when i got to work, I had extra ham and maybe 3 pieces of barely cooked potatoes. This place used to be good, but that was the worst Ive had there. Not worth what I paid at all, Id rather go to whitespot or even tim's. Waste of money, waste of time

Best eggs Benny ever. Hands down. Everything from their sauce to the egg, to the fruit garnish, to the English muffin was amazing.

And I'm writing this even though I had it 4 months ago. Great decor, lots of history and definitely gives a glimpse of what Vancouver might've felt like back then.
Laughingman
It's hard not to like this place. If you're looking for "family owned" authentic and old school, it doesn't get much better. The host is a trip. He's full of politically incorrect compliments for the ladies that only old dudes can get away with. The food is classic old school Greek. Nothing creative or de-constructed, just good old fashioned fare. Done with Care.

A great place for a satisfying lunch.

We'll definitely be coming back! Eggs Benny and the Deep Dish were great. Meet by friendly staff and didn't have long for a table. Great value.

Breakfast Right Now! Wow!!. Fast, friendly and great Eggs Benny......Two of us stopped in for a quick bite before a conference......Food was up real fast. Benny was good and the Holllandaise was superb. Milk for the Tea too.....Thoroughly recommend.

Came here with two friends for brunch. I ordered the salmon eggs Benny. It was a fairly decent eggs Benny but I had better. It came with a small fruit salad which had a variety of good fruit (none of that jam-packed with melon business) lots of berries, watermelon, and pomegranate. However what made this place memorable was the service. The owner was above and beyond kind and genuine and gave is a complimentary delicious phyllo oatmeal Apple pie pastry with maple syrup and honey and more fresh fruit. It was very good and his overall attitude was genuine. I would come back to try the lunch next time.
The Tongue
The early 90s would like their restaurant back. There is something that calls Chef Ramsey here. The 90s decor, the overly cozy mountains of memorabilia, the gigantic menu. It's too cozy. Too informal. It says: we want to be liked by everyone. It's home. Well, it's not. It's a restaurant. The food is bland or overly salted. The service is nice but a bit on the overworked, not enough professional staff side. The experience feels like the owner passed away and the rest of the family is trying to just keep it going before the lease is up. Quaint is the best word. But I can't eat quaint. :(

Best breakfast in Vancouver. Had the salmon eggs benny. divine! finished off with the cinnamon bun. service was amazing

A Little Sweet After Brunch. Baclava-Like Dessert Drizzled with Bc Honey. Amazing...a sweet treat .. For us on the house! I love love this restaurant

Come here for lunch, stay away from breakfast. First of all, lunch was delicious. the service was terrific and the food was incredible. however breakfast was a completely different story. to begin, it took forever to get the server to take our order. then it took a good 50 minutes for our food to come. THEN when it finally did arrive (sans drink refills, or actually coming with the beer we ordered) the sausages were way undercooked. also, the server specifically asked me if I wanted mushrooms with my food, which I said no to, and it still came with mushrooms!!! finally, they did not even inquire how our meal was, and we left completely unsure who our actual server was. warning, do not come here for breakfast, you will leave angry.

Pretty good. It was an ok meal, the pasta and tomato sauce is heavy but the staff is friendly and service was great. Excellent dessert and coffees.

Friendly family-run place with fantastic service and the best French toast ever. We were in Vancouver a couple of days and we're repeat visitors, it was that good!

Simply devine. I arrived in Vancouver around dinner time, though it felt much later due to jet lag. I was super hungry. I stopped by the hotel and checked out UrbanSpoon for local restaurants. This place was close by so off I went. The staff were really helpful and i proceeded to check out the menu for something to eat. The ambiance was pretty good and I had a nice window booth. I ordered the seafood linguine (shrimp and BBQ wild salmon) along with a minestrone soup. The soup when it arrived was super thick and perfectly presented. The flavour burst out. It was simply devine. I think this was the best minestrone soup i have ever had. It came with some pita which complemented the soup. The main course was also well presented and was incredibly flavourful. I am not usually a big salmon eater, but the salmon was delicious and melted my in my mouth.

Portions were big and after a 5 hour flight and being super hungry, the meal filled me up nicely. It was a perfect little restaurant. I checked out what others in the restaurant bought and everything that was brought out looked delicious.

As i was stuffed i took desert to go. i had the rice pudding. At $6.95 it seemed to be rather pricey, but when i ate it later at the hotel, it was worth every penny. Creamy with just the right amount of cinnamon with fresh fruit on top.

Over all I highly recommend the place to anyone who happens to be around in the area.
Papadog
Wonderful minestrone,full of flavor,also had spaniopita,excellent!!
No Dessert Im Full
Cozy Cafe. This is the kind of place where you don't rush a meal, a place where the coffee comes first, the meal next, and perhaps another coffee or a light pastry to finish. I am not the hugest fan of french toast so I'm not quite sure what I was thinking when I ordered it. It was ok, the fried butterfly sausage was the highlight. The coffee was good too. Service was sloooowww, but it didn't help that we were kind of in a rush. I would like to come back for more of a lunch on the awesome outdoor patio one day.
Winterborn
Was recommended this restaurant by our hotel concierge. The atmosphere is nice and cozy with friendly staff.
My penne was flavorful but a little plain looking. My dinning companion had the Spanikopitia which was delicious and looked beautiful. After dinner we had an apple turn over which was fantastic.the staff were competent and quick All in all for a Visiter new to the city a very good start.

Just had a great breakfast (eggs Benedict with salmon). Love this place. Not only is the food delicious (wonderful hollandaise and perfectly roasted potatoes), the vibe is laid back and the service very friendly and attentive. When the waiter forgot my OJ (no biggie and he was crazy busy) he not only brought me one gratis, he also brought a plate of Milo Pita - a delicious Greek dessert (also gratis). Impressive. Will be back whenever I'm in Vancouver.
Lisa
Scoozi's has the best eggs benni and cinnamon buns... We had breakfast there and love the food atmosphere and staff. Can't wait to come back!

AMAZING Place. I cannot even begin to express how great of a place this is. We stopped there for dinner and loved the food and service so much, we went for breakfast, TWICE! Michael, the owner, was one of the nicest people I met while in Vancouver. Great food, AMAZING service, this is a must stop place while in Vancouver.
Md
Loved it! Huge place, wonderful, attentive service. Amazing fresh cinnamon buns with honey and home made yogurt. Open early.

What a nice warm place to have breakfast!! The salmon Benny was delicious texture of the hollandaise was light this was served with some tasty roasted potatoes and some fresh fruit.
Jellome
I really want to like this place, but.... I cannot justify the price point for the product you are getting. The food is good but not spectacular and the service is sparse at best. It's got the feel of a place you'd find on Commercial Drive with the prices reflecting a tourist cash grab. Been here twice and both times felt like i could have spent my money and gotten better value elsewhere. Spanikopita & Soup was $12.95!! Penne w/ 3 small meatballs & cup of minestrone $18.95!! nothing extravagant about these dishes. Overpriced menu results in lack of local customers - which is unfortunate because the space is very charming...any free space on Commercial Drive?
Julie
This place was recommended by the concierge at our hotel. We are Texans visiting Vancouver. We had brunch here with our friends (4 adults & 3 kids). The food was fresh and delicious. The service was excellent. It was a nice restaurant to sit and talk with our friends, enjoy a good meal without feeling rushed.
Emma
We just happened to walk by, and entered a quaint and Mediterranean restaurant. A lovely family run spot that tops the scale of good food, great quality, and awesome service. Most of the recipes are family based, and absolutely fantastic. Highly reccomended to anyone.

Terrible place for a group. I went to Scoozi's for lunch with a group at the office and the food was okay. The service throughout the meal was fast but showed several signs of inexperience. No one in the group (of about 15) thought it was great, just basically okay. For the cost they charge for their lunch meals (the online menu is outdated and does not reflect the new higher costs) the portions are pretty average, not all that generous. At the end of the meal it took us almost as long to figure out the bill, which they did not want to split, than it took us to order and eat our meals. Some of the items on the bill were just identified as "food", so not very helpful. At the end it turned out to be less hassle to have one person take the whole meal on their card and then have everyone else pay them back rather than deal with their less than helpful staff who believe special arrangements need to be made in advance with them if bills are to be made separate.

Magnifico !!!!. My girlfriends and I enjoyed a beautiful breakfast here on a weekend shopping extravaganza. The service was first -class and the food was wonderful ! I recommend the eye-opener as a way to start your shopping day.

In Vancouver for the weekend. Ran into this place ate here with a friend for breakfast. Loved it so much I had to bring my mom the next day. Great service great food.

Good Breakfast. My wife and I were there for breakfast this morning specifically for their eggs Benedict. We read some good things about the eggs benny there so wanted to give it a try. The service was very good when we walked in as we were greeted by the owner.

My wife had the Eggs Benny with Salmon and I had the Veggie Deep Dish. The quality of both dishes was very good but be warned the portions are not very large.

It took a while to actually get the bill but that was just a minor setback to an otherwise good breakfast experience.

Best Fruit Salad Ever. It isn't just the fruit salad that is good--it is just that it stands so far above all other fruit salads.

This was a fruit salad like I've only seen in S.E. Asia, but with cherries as well. There was dragonfruit and kiwi fruit, nectarines and blueberries…. Now, I have worked in the hospitality industry as you know, and I have in general given up on fruit-salads as I can't stand the taste of both honeydew and cantaloupe. I know, I am embarrassed to admit this as I like to think of myself as someone who will eat anything, but the mere smell of cantaloupe gets me wretching, and most fruit salads you buy usually have plenty of cantaloupe.

The yogurt too, must be raved about. Homemade Greek yogurt and a good amount of it, topped with this luscious array of fruits and drizzled with local honey, this to me sounds like the ambrosia of the gods and I am getting ready to go back just thinking about it.

Excellent food. Okay service. Great little find.. My wife and I were in Vancouver recently and stumbled upon this place. It's a small family run restaurant that added tapas to the their repertoire.

The tapas menu is a little limited, but the menu is quite full with regular dishes. We had the calamari as an appetizer. My wife had the Chicken & Spanakopita combo. I had the Lasagna dinner. The food was excellent. Above average and a great value for downtown Van. The portions are simply huge and more than enough to share.

The wine was excellent and the selection should meet most diners wishes.

The service was just okay, but acceptable. They do try hard though.

I love finding non-chain or family run restaurants. Must give this one a try.

I went to lunch with my mom and we were seated at an awkwardly placed table rather than by the half-booths even though they were all available. We asked to switch and the hostess sat us somewhere else as if doing us a favour. The menu was very limited for lunch time, a lot of their entrees include eggs which is something I try to avoid. I settled for the sensational 7" pizza which was very yummy but way too overpriced for what it was, at almost $11. Nice restaurant but just not for me.
Mike
My wife and I came here for breakfast the morning after the Clapton show. Incredibly amazing food, great atmosphere and gracious service. We will be back!
Urban Jungle
Fantastic Mediterranean cuisine. We really liked the lasagna and atmosphere. Nice place to go for a hot lunch.

Very accommodating and fun place. I was in town and needed a place that could handle 12 us on a Saturday night. After looking at the reviews I chose this place. Most of the food was good homemade Greek and Italian specialties. We enjoyed the lasagna and moussaka especially. They were all over the special roast lamb but it was a real disappointment - 3 small, way overcooked slices of roast lamb. AVOID IT. But the rest of the food, the owner and the staff made up for it all and provided us with a great evening.
Doreen
My husband and I brought old friends here that were visiting from out of town, since they were staying at the Days Inn and went online to find surrounding restaurants that we could take them to. I chose Scoozi's because of the menu and the prices.
We were very pleasantly pleased with the food, service, and prices. The owner Michael made a point of coming over and saying hi. Three of us had the chicken dinner, which was absolutely delicious, their home made spanakapita was just as good as the ones we had while in Greece this summer. I even bought 3 tof them to take home for my kids to try. We will definetely return
FoodAdventureTime
I have been to Scoozis’ on two occasions. There is one thing to stress about this very colourful Mediterranean restaurant– Portions are large!
J At Vanbrosia.com
... generous amt of each ingredient, well portioned too - not too much or too little of anything, a good harmony; chicken pieces smaller than I like, but they were there...
BitterSweetLife Food
This comfort food was amazing! Loved the creaminess of it and how well the spinach and tomatoes worked together with the cheese and ham. Bread at the bottom was a bit hard to scrape off though (it was stuck on TIGHT!)

After studying the menu, I ordered a Scoozis Big Breakfast. It took awhile before our food was served.

Last weekend we were ‘out and about’ downtown, doing our usual Saturday errands, and of course for lunch. On these days we always try to go somewhere we have never been before. We figure, that there are so many places to eat in downtown Vancouver, why not
Raul
Overall, a very nice gem of a find. I did not realize that a downtown restaurant in the very core of the Financial District would be so nice. And so welcoming to children. Moreover, if you are downtown on a weekend working at your office, they also offer lunch AND brunch. I’ll have to come with Ianiv and Arieanna some day as it’s literally 2-3 blocks from Waterfront Skytrain Station. Scoozis and Cassandra’s Wine Room are great finds for dinner in the downtown core, and great value for money.
