Review Burgoo - Vancouver

Fatemeh Sayadi
The staff were friendly, I loved the eggplant caprese. The craft coke was so cool. The chicken pie crust was great, the chicken was cooked perfectly and I think it would be enough for two people although it’s not that big. Why 4? The roast potatoes were 8 $ and It was small quantity and I didn’t like the taste, but mostly it’s because of the overall odour of the restaurant which was a bit funky. So, sit outside if you don’t like that. Other than that I liked it there

Everything was good. The bbq ribs were tender and the sauce had a sweet kick which I liked. It was eaten in no time. The mac n cheese was one of the better ones I've tasted. I really came here for the grilled cheese and tomato soup though. I liked the grilled cheese a lot and the mix of cheeses they use.

First time here so we had to order a few different things. Went at lunch around 1pm on Sunday. It was busy but we didn’t wait for a table which was good. Service was good and the food was great. Would definitely come back. The after school special is the way to go.

The food was okay though nothing spectacular. The portions are quite small for the price. I feel deceived by a name like Burgoo as I was expecting at least one burger on the menu. I was really craving yam fries, alas there were no fry-like items, and a lack of carbs in general. If that's your jam, then I recommend, but I wouldn't choose to go back. Comfort food to me is not what was on the menu. The servers and atmosphere were nice though.

Great taste but small portion overall. FAB Salad ($8.25): awesome balance among apple bits, bacon, greens, goat cheese, and balsamic vinegar based sauce. Petite Ratatouille ($10.25): soothing veggie dish with a hint of spiciness Baby Back Ribs ($16.50): fall-off-the-bone juicy meat and it comes with extra bbq sauce on the side

This was our first visit, it was a rainy day and we were look for a spot to have soup. We had to wait because it was was very busy. I would suggest booking ahead. The soup and sandwich was amazing!!! We will definitely be back, a must try spot.

Smaller place then I expected but it was really cozy and warm. We got a seat right away even though it seemed fairly busy. Had the chicken pot pie and it was really good and savory. Would definitely order it again. Everything on the comfort food section on the main menu was going to be filling and heavy so we just had some chips and dip for our appie. We finished off with some dessert.

The service was excellent during a busy lunch hour. I heard the French onion soup was quite good and I have to agree. It was very yummy and not too salty as some I've had in the past. Would definitely recommend.

Never stepped foot in any of the Burgoo locations. This was my first time trying the comfort food via UberEats. It came from an East 3rd location so tagging it as this Main street location. The chicken pot pie was huuuuge. Better to be shared with someone else unless you are feeling extra hungry. My partner had the chicken sandwich and he quite enjoyed it. Food arrived hot and I appreciated that. I find the menu a bit pricy.

My favourite Burgoo. Granted, I've only been to two locations but this one has a place in my heart. In my old neighbourhood and complimented by other great food places up and down Main Street. The food is better than just comfort food and the actual establishment is beautiful in it's own kind of way, inside and on the patio. Feels like home. Highly recommend coming here.

Gorgeous place.<br/>I tried the lavender latte with coconut milk, the coffee was amazing! Shame the lavender flavour was missing!<br/>The crab bisque is creamy with real bits of crab with every mouthful you take! <br/>The el cubano was deliciously packed with pork & toasted to absolute perfection!<br/>This place has a great selection of food & drink. All the staff are friendly & super knowledgeable of the menu. New favourite place, will definitely be back.

I’m going to keep these post shorter from now on. You’re here to see if I would recommend a place to try and I know you’re hungry so I’ll keep it brief. Happy hour? Yes, available for drinks and snacks. What we ordered:. Tastier Chicken Sandwich. Would I recommend it? I don’t really crave burgoo. It’s not the type of food where I want weekly and the last time I went was 10 years ago. Therefore, I wouldn’t say it was great, it wasn’t bad either. It was ok.

Burgoo has a few locations in the city.  This one is located on Mount Pleasant neighbourhood.  It is a mid-sized bistro located on Main Street and East 15th Avenue.<br/><br/>Burgoo is well known for their soups and sandwiches, not to mention their most popular Macaroni and Cheese. 🥖🍴<br/><br/>Everything are very flavourful and delicious.  This place never disappoints!  It is a great place for comfort food with a pretty good price for any time & day of the week. 👍😋<br/><br/>We ordered an "After School Special" (a large cup of soup and a yummy sandwich, both of your choice).  We chose Yummy Carrot and Shrimp Baguette.  Tasty!<br/>📝📝<br/>Food: 🍽🍽🍽🍽🍽Must Try!<br/>Service: 👩‍🍳👩‍🍳👩‍🍳👩‍🍳👩‍🍳<br/>Price: 💲💲$30-$50 for two (lunch or brunch)<br/>Kids: 👶👶👶👶👶 Woohoo! - They have kid menu with smaller sizes.  Most kids (most adults 👱‍♀️🧔) adore macncheese<br/>Presentation: 📷📷📷<br/>Parking: Street parking <br/>Explore the menu:  Kentucky Hot Brown &  Kale Caesar Salad, After School Special<br/>Tips:<br/>📝has great price for “After School Special” = Soup & Sandwich combo<br/>📝has perfect patio for a summer day<br/>📝might be a bit challenge to find seat during peak hours<br/>Would I Return: Yes 🙋‍♀️

Worst grilled cheese and tomato soup ever. I’ve had it at their Kits location and it was great though still ridiculously overpriced. But either they’ve changed the recipe or this location has lousy cooks. $18 for a burnt grilled cheese and a straight outta da can tomato soup??? Plenty of other places to eat well in Vancouver.
Ribs
So good in the fall and winter. I really like the feel of the main street location. I've tried several of the stews and I liked them all. I also love that they have local mead on the menu. We go a couple times a year when we have a hankering for comfort food.
Noah Mar
Food and service is decent, but quite expensive. There are many better places in the city for better food and value. The only thing I'd recommend is the fondue, which is hard to mess up too much.

Comfort food at it's finest! I suggest not coming here at peak times as a friend and I came for brunch (around noon/lunch time), and the wait seemed forever! We both ordered After School Specials which is a soup and sandwich for only $18! With their soup+salad and sandwiches ranging at $15 each, how can you go wrong with that value? It comes in good portions that will make even the hungriest of little piggies full and satisfied. I had the crab bisque with grilled cheese while my friend got the split pea soup and El Cubano sandwich. Our server was very welcoming and friendly, and Im glad I took up her recommendation of adding tomato and bacon in my grilled cheese. Totally a prefect addition to the crisp bread that a had a nice cheesy crust and a good blend of the gooey 4 types of cheeses inside; while the El Cubano had a big healthy serving of pulled pork and tanginess from the mustard and garlic pickle relish. Both of the soups were very creamy, although my bisque tasted a little more salted to my liking. The mango tango cocktail I had was refreshing on side of my hearty meal.

I used to think this place was great when I first moved to the neighborhood... but now that I am gluten free/dairy free I find it really hard to eat here. Its comfort food at its finest (not affordable though) but there isn't much for me to eat there now with my dietary restrictions.. to bad

have been going to Burgoo for years on 10th avenue in Point Grey.  have always enjoyed their soups but as they expanded to new neighbourhoods so did their prices and the bowls have shrunk dramatically.  $15 for a bowl of soup without bread is a little over the top.  so I bid Adios in search of a new soup restaurant that doesn't take advantage of you.
Lilian
Recommend their crab bisque, could really taste the sweetness of crab from the soup. Their beef stew and butter chicken also very tasty and comforting, couldn't finish the dinner so packed some for lunch and still tasted very good.
Frankie Ferrari
The service, atmosphere, location all is lovely.<br/>I had their "tastiest chicken" sandwich with french onion soup.<br/>It quite possibly was the worst sandwich ive had in a long time. And the soup too salty.<br/>Next time i'll stick to the grilled cheese.

I stumbled upon this bistro while walking down Main Street. Just the aroma coming from this place is irresistible. Decided to went in for brunch with some girlfriends and we did not regret that at all! The food here is as good as it smelled! <br/>I ordered the Croque Monsieur with Kale and Quinoa Salad from their Weekend special menu. First of all, It was baked with lots of cheese to perfection and comes with big chunks of smoked ham. The sauce is creamy and you can really taste the Dijon in it which I love. The salad is very tasty, not boring and I love the crunchiness that the quinoa adds to it. Overall, It was a very hearty, filling and delicious meal! <br/>I also got to try a little bit of their Chicken Pot Pie and Cinnamon Apple French Toast which my girlfriends ordered and those did not disappoint either. <br/>I would definitely go back here and try everything in their menu.

My husband and I ate here recently. We asked to be seated in the patio and were seated quite quickly. <br/><br/>We ordered that guacamole and chips to start. My husband ordered the gazpacho which is his favourite soup. <br/><br/>The guac was good but my husband wasn't too impressed with the gazpacho. It wasn't a traditional recipe. <br/><br/>For dinner he order the beef bourguignon with mashed potatoes and I ordered the Cubano sandwich with spinach salad. I really enjoyed my sandwich. It had a spicy and savoury kick to it. My husband was disappointed in the beef bourguignon. He compared it to a can of chunky soup. Overall, I was satisfied with my meal and he was not. <br/><br/>The service was great. I always appreciate service that it attentive but not intrusive. It got a little cold so I asked for a blanket and thankfully there was one available. <br/><br/>I'm sure if he ordered something different in the future, we would come here again.

Food that makes you sad at the end of the meal cause it's just so good! Mushroom medley and crab bisque are my top 2 favorite w/ their pulled pork sandwich. Servers are polite, but order times are slower than normal. Food is consistent and delicious though.
Kabir
Love the Mac and cheese here. The combination of a sophisticated ambience and a rustic vibe at the same time do clearly make for a pleasant experience.

This is a homey restaurant and the atmosphere is nice. It's a lively environment with music although beware the wait. I think the patio would be a nice option on a sunny day. I ordered the The Kentucky Burgoo, which is a hearty stew with three types of meat which tasted well together although the okra ingredient caught me by surprise as it is one of my least favorite veggies because of the slimy nature. All in all a good stew well balanced flavours not too salty and you can really taste the flavours of the spices! We ordered the creme brulee and banana bread pudding with ice cream, the banana bread came hot with ice cream on top definitely heavenly and a must try.
Candy_foodie
We waited 1hr to be seated since they don't take reservation unless its more than 8 people. I guess they thought I was gonna use stroller to put my baby there so there werent seat to put baby car seat. I ordered feature soup which is carrot soup and also Mac and cheese. Its pretty good. I like it. The service is good, I just don't like the waitress who brought my food to me because she gave me attitude. Overall my family had a great time.
Jelizatin Eats
Great place for comfort food, there isn't another restaurant like it in the city! Do yourself a favour and order the macaroni and more, simply amazing! We also ordered the crab bisque, so delicious especially on a cold, rainy day. Also, if you're into hot sauce, Burgoo offers Matouk's (Caribbean style hot sauce), which is simply delicious.<br/><br/>Great service and prices are very fair. We'll definitely visit again!
Chicas
Food is alright but not great. It's good place to grab meals for casual dining. I would go there again but not one of my favourite and go to restaurants
James
Came here for dinner. I heard a lot of good things about it. I didn't think it was amazing. I got the Sheppards pie. It was OK. I've had better. Don't get me wrong, it was good, but no better than any other half decent restaurant. The service was great though. I would come here again, but not my first choice.
Andrea
hands down best comfort food ever! the environment is so cosy as well. i've been wanting to try burgoo for so long, everyone talks about it and i see it on everyones instagram. <br/>i tried the mac n cheese and crab bisque. they were both amazing! this is a place i would definitely go back to from time to time!

Comfort food is soul food.  The heartiness of the most simple delicacies can really touch and rejuvenate one's spirits.  Burgoo Bistro is one of my favourite places to go when I need some honest good food.  Burgoo has three locations; one in North Vancouver, Kitsilano, and my personal favourite; Mount Pleasant.Taste: the food is prepared from the heart, you can count on that.  If the chefs are anything like their servers, they have a lot of heart.  Their food always radiates joy and sincerity.  It's like when you go to your relative's place for Thanksgiving and they stuff you with all this food that's cooked with love and care; that's Burgoo, except Burgoo will charge you.
Chunky
Love the cozy atmosphere. The dishes are hearty and filling. The only complaint I have is the lack of available parking. Definitely recommended to try!

Been wanting to try out Burgoo for the longest while after seeing countless shares on my friends' Instagram feeds. The place certainly doesn't disappoint! <br/><br/>First thing you'd notice of this particular location after stepping inside is how cosy the place is. From the decor to the wooden architecture, you automatically feel warmed up and ready to enjoy a hearty meal.<br/><br/>I ordered After School Special ($17), which gives you the option of one sandwich and a cup of soup. I chose the Gooey Cheese Griller with the Chicken Itza soup. The Griller was a complete cheesy goodness slapped between two crispy pieces of baguette. The Chicken Itza was a Mexican-inspired soup made with tomatillos. I was slightly upset with my decision because it didn't pair nicely with my grilled cheese at all. If I had the chance to try again, I'd pick their butternut squash or classic tomato soup. <br/><br/>Wanted to also give a quick shoutout to the Sunset Corn and Chicken soup! My friend ordered this with his sandwich, and it was simply delicious! Will drop by next time and try it myself!

I have been living in Vancouver for a long time but I have never tried this popular restaurant Burgoo, so I went for dinner with my friend who has never been to this restaurant as well. <br/><br/>My friend told me that there was always a lineup at this restaurant, so we went there and expected to wait for a long time, but we only waited for about 10 mins or so in the end. It was not too bad. The restaurant was busy though. <br/><br/>My friend ordered a Manhattan clam soup and Tastiest Chicken sandwich. I ordered a Crab bisque soup and Dos Diablos sandwich. I tried both soups and both sandwiches. I found that the Manhattan clam soup was more salty and thicker than Crab Bisque. The Crab Bisque soup got real crab meat though. Both soups and sandwiches tasted great. <br/><br/>Both the soups and sandwiches are very filling. We had to pack some soup and a small portion of the sandwich home. The only thing I didn't like was that I was very very thirsty after dinner the whole night. I had to keep drinking water to dilute the sodium or MSG in the food.
Vancity_yums
I love their cheese fondue, crab bisque and chowder! Their banana bread pudding is also a must-try. Awesome go-to place on a cold day! Wait can be long sometimes but they are popular :)

Although I've only been here once since we don't have burgoo in Calgary it's the best comfort food I've had. The menu is very versatile and you can't go wrong with anything. Definitely puts you in a food coma.

I don’t know how many times I can reiterate this – but I will never get tired of Burgoo, and judging by the following photos, you would have never believed it was just a meal for two. Surprisingly, Big Fly has NEVER been to Burgoo before, which was blasphemy to me. He even made me rethink our friendship by asking the question: “What’s so great about soups and sandwiches?”
GUACARONS
As someone who loves soups and sandwiches, this was the perfect place for me. Before stopping by, I had seen countless photos on Instagram of the food here and all the photos looked amazing! <br/>When I visited, there was a 25 minute wait to sit outside, luckily Main Street is full of other shops so my friends and I walked around before we were called back to get our table. <br/>I got the after school special of the Tastiest Chicken Sandwich and the Straight Up Tomato Soup. The onion jam in the sandwich is amazing and the soup is so flavourful. Comfort food at its finest!
Cecilia
What I call: fancy-ish comfort food. You cant go wrong with ordering anything off the menu, but leave feeling like maybe you overpaid for it.
Theresa
If you need a place to enjoy comfort food, this is your place. It offers comfort food from all around the world. We ordered the butter chicken, Mac n cheese and pulled pork sandwich with chicken and corn soup. Delicious is all that I have to say. The boursin cheese with pita appy was good as well. I would maybe serve it with more pita instead of having to ask for you every 5 minutes.

Burgoo is synonymous with warm stews, cheesy sandwiches and great service. Perfect place for a date, a catch up with friends or even for a drink. I've been more times than my fingers can remember as the food just doesn't get old, especially on blustery days. <br/><br/>Food/Drink: My favorite has got to be the After School Special. It's a combination of a soup AND a sandwich of your choosing. The veggie, Dos Diablos, Shrimp Baguette, and Pulled Pork are all good. It just depends what you're feeling that day. Sunset Corn and Chicken is my absolute go-to for soup. It's sweet from the corn, with generous chunks of chicken and chipotle and cumin to cut the taste. #sogood. The Kentucky Burgoo is also really thick and delicious. <br/><br/>Ambience: The interior has a very rustic feel with its wood panelling and polished wooden tables. The inside is cozy, with tables for 2 or 4. The bar is available and so is the patio, which is beautiful in the summer because of the Main street activity going on. <br/><br/>BONUS: They give out free candy which K and I love. <br/><br/>Service: Really good everytime I've come. They give you time to decide without hovering, and always come back to ask how food's tasting or to top of your glass. <br/><br/>Transport: Take the 99 Comm'l Broadway to Main st. Then you can either take the 3 bus or walk a couple blocks up. I suggest the walk! You'll see so much more!

Another revisit, which I’m sure I’ve had plenty since my last time there, but this time instead of the usual I did step out of my comfort zone and try something new. Just a regular girls’ afternoon patio trip after helping AH8 move to my place. She’ll be my roommate for a few weeks or so, until things cleared up at home. After the move we were feeling munchy, so headed off to Burgoo’s patio for a nice drink and snacks.
Alpaca Lunch
We ordered a brie fondue ($11) to share. It was served with cut red apple, grapes, and crusty bread on the side for dipping. The brie fondue was kept warm and gooey with a candle. My only issue was that the crusty bread wasn't very "crusty," it didn't have the textural contrast between the soft innards. Nevertheless, I very much enjoyed the sweet, crisp, apples with the savoury and pungent brie. While our appetizer arrived promptly after we ordered, our entrees did not arrive until another 25 minutes after our server cleared away empty plates. We suspect that this may be because Richa's decadent French onion soup requires more time to prepare, and all of our dishes had to come at the same time.<br/><br/>The presentation of my after school special ($17 any soup cup paired with sandwich of choice) with the sunset corn and chicken soup and the tastiest chicken sandwich was delightful. While the soup was hearty, chocked full of corn nibblets and diced chicken, It was also considerably refreshing and light tasting for a cream based soup. It had bright and lively Mexican flavours, like a fiesta in my mouth. After having a taste, KitKat said it was like eating a taco in liquid form. Definitely the highlight of my dinner. The tastiest chicken on the other hand was just average. The open faced sandwich was topped with diced chicken, bacon, brie and diced apples, squirted with Dijon mayo and finished with some greens sprinkled over top like an afterthought. I was expecting a medley of flavours that melded together, However, the the ingredients didn't really blend together. The mayo only tasted faintly of Dijon and the onion jam was nowhere to be found. It just tasted overwhelmingly of chicken and mayo. <br/><br/>KitKat ordered the after school special with straight up tomato and gooey cheese grillers. Basically, grilled cheese and tomato soup. The soup was straight up tomato, literally. It had such intense flavour that it was like drinking a condense tomato. While it was delicious when you dipped the ooey gooey grilled cheese (that had a nice and crispy exterior) into it, I thought the tomato soup was a little too acidic and robust to be consumed by itself
Pork_ninjas
i'm in cheesy comfort food heaven (times 100) Had the afterschool special, decided to pay a bit more to get the french onion soup and the grilled cheese. O...M...G! The melted cheese was around the entire outisde of the onion soup ceramic bowl it's served in. I couldn't even finish both items with the generous amount of cheese they give you! The onion soup was very flavourful with soaked pieces of bread floating soup paired well with the cheese. The grilled cheese was amazing and a good pairing with the french onion soup, dippable and won't get soggy because of the protective cheesy later on the outside of the bread. This is a death by cheese pairing, a must try!

Great temping food, and I would have liked to have eaten all the desserts on the menu, they were all amazing comfort food. It can sometimes be a wait, so go early.
The Hungry Couple
Burgoo is the perfect place to go on a typical rainy Vancouver day. Serving up delicious comfort food dishes such as beef bourginon, mac and cheese, and our favourite - grilled cheese sandwiches with crispy cheese coated on the outside of the sandwich!
Winnie Feng
Food is always delicious! Nothing bad to say about their food, but they are always busy and packed! The wait on a weekday evening was approx 20-45 minutes. Would come back for the comfort food for sure.
DineVancity
Love the cozy feeling of Burgoo! Their food is reasonably priced and exceptionally good! The Mac and cheese is so creamy but a lot smaller than I had anticipated.
Robin
Burgoo, always known for their comfort food! It was trés bon. Enjoyed every bite of it. They have a patio overlooking Main St., great for summer time. The Dos Diablos is highly recommended if you like melted cheese. My other friends had the Mac and more, the enhanced version of Mac and Cheese.
Vinita Trieu
BRIE FONDUEEEE! Oh my goodness, I was the happiest girl when I found out this place offered BRIE fondue! Super yummy, served with little cubes of French bread, grapes, and other fruits. Burgoo is definitely the place to go to for maximum comfort food!
The Foodiographer
This place is never a disappoint. Tasty comfort food for all occasions ☺️ Tried the mushroom medley soup and tastiest chicken sandwich today.. Soup was amazing with the truffle oil 😍

Soup and sandwiches, the ultimate comfort food for any give day be it rainy, sunny, or sick. Burgoo has always been my go to for really hearty comfort dishes, something about the flavours and things they add, it just feels and taste of love. Bloody Caesar; with pickled bean. What better to start off a Sunday than with a caesar, or what some call the ‘hangover drink’, even better when it’s on special. This was my second one, I enjoyed the pickled bean as it had a little kick to it. Don’t be too excited, as the drink is usually served with a single bean, but our server/bartender kindly gave me some extras when I placed my request for my second drink. Perks of sitting at the bar.

One of my favourite places to eat. Straight comfort food. The Kentucky Burgoo is to die for; get a side of mash potatoes to enhance this dish. <br/><br/>The sandwiches and soups are also amazing. I'd recommend the tasty chicken. <br/><br/>Come here with an appetite, because the food is very filling. There is no sparseness on cheese or butter. <br/><br/>Their patio is also really nice to sit on, rain or shine. The staff are always friendly and know their dishes.

Bur-good Food. The name of the restaurant doesn't do justice to the tasty food with in. Although you will probably have to wait for a table. I've been here a couple of times. I recommend the grilled cheese. Inside is small and dark but there is patio seating. It has been busy both times I have been here. The service is average or slightly below average, and the washroom is small but I enjoy the food although they could add a few more dishes to the menu for people who don't eat meat.

Good food, not great service. Food was good, had some Brie fondue to start which was amazing. Had baked mac and cheese as a main, also good. Comfort food for sure. Unfortunately service was awful! And I am not hard to please. Had about three different waitresses. Not one came to ask how my meal was. Never got told the specials. Not friendly. Would be an awesome place to eat if they taught their servers some manners.

Favorite item. Corn chowder is good, ask for a wedge of lime. The grill cheese panini is good too. Service is a hit or miss at times. Just make sure to ask for extra water.

"Burgoo Bistro is located right in the heart of the Mount Pleasant neighborhood in Vancouver, drastically renovating a location that once belonged to Subway. Burgoo promises to provide you with homestyle meals that are comforting and wholesome. Pricing is in the same range as a Cactus Club or Earl’s, with entrees going for about $15. The menu seems to have been inspired by the Southern United States, but there are several international dishes as well, like Thai Tom Kah Gai and French Ratatouille."<br/>See comments for link to full written review.

I always enjoy eating at Burgoo, and leave there usually very full and satisfied. They have great comfort food! I usually get either their Mac and Cheese, which is so cheesy and delicious you can never go wrong or their soup and sandwich combo which is a great bang for your buck. Their lobster bisque is one of my favourite soups there with their french onion soup coming a close second. I find that their french onion soup can be a bit too decadent at times so I find it better to play it safe with the lobster bisque. On weekends especially during brunch they tend to be really busy, so there’s always a decent line up but I personally think it’s worth the wait! They also have a patio, which is awesome.

The end of the beginning. As this former "we try harder" type of joint passes into the ride the reputation and make some bucks phase of the restaurant I shall be sad to see her go. The portions are getting smaller, the ingredients cheaper and the servers less willing to be really helpful. I am so sad to see this little gem go this way but thus is the way of the world in restaurants.
A Cook's Opinion
Good bistro. Burgoo is a good example of a bistro. Fresh food dishes from around the world. Dishes from different countries served in appealing presentations. <br/><br/>Good service, consistent good food. Warm comforting laid back atmosphere. Only downside is my big appetite requires me to order an appy which makes my bill pricey but not too excessive.
Toni_mta
Terrible Service! We sat down and there weren't enough seats for everyone. We needed a table for 8. We only had a 6-seat table and needed to wait for the 2 customers next to our table to leave so we can combine tables to get enough seats. The 2 other patrons had already paid and we still had to wait 45 minutes for them to leave. Why couldn't the server have politely informed them that we needed their table? Instead we had to be the ones to tell the 2 customers that we needed their table. It was my mother's birthday dinner and Burgoo absolutely ruined it. Food wasn't even that good and they automatically added a gratuity to our bill. <br/><br/>I am not returning to this restaurant and will make sure none of my family and friends come here. I will not recommend anyone to come here.

Perfect comfort food. I've been coming to this place for years - the best comfort food in the city. Their ceasars are delicious and French onion soup is one of the best in the city. Be prepared for a wait but it's worth it. Their grilled cheese grillers are the perfect accompaniment with any soup - great service and perfect way to spend a brunch on a fall afternoon!

If you ask for no green peppers you are told you are NOT allowed to have onions. First time at this place on Main Street. It looked busy so we went in. We ordered the chicken nachos and saw that green peppers were part of the toppings. We asked for no green peppers and were told by the waitress that because of that we would NOT be getting a onions as well. Huh..,, I asked why, she informed me that the green peppers and onions were already mixed together. I said no one in the kitchen could dice up a few pieces of onions and toss it on the nachos.... She said no! What a complete joke! Seriously $15 for a small saucer of nachos. It's a restaurant people figure out how to serve what people want.
Food Thoughts
Delicious food!. I came here a couple of months ago, and when I got there the place was completely full! Even though it was raining outside, people still sat out on the patio. It was around a 15 minute wait before I got a table. <br/>I ordered the After School Special, where you choose a soup and sandwich. I got the butternut squash soup and the tastiest chicken sandwich. I think this is the one of the best deals you can get, as the cup of soup was huge. I couldn't even finish it after eating my sandwich, which was delicious. I love the pairing of chicken and apple on the sandwich. <br/>I'll definitely be back to try all of their other soups and sandwiches.

Delish, but.... Service was great and I enjoyed my meal but I did think my Beef Bourguignon was over seasoned and I would have preferred it with a lot less salt.
Beeblow
Good comfort food. I've heard really good things about this place from some friends who frequent and coworkers who like to get drinks after work. So for the first time last week, my husband and I decided to check it out. They have lots of international comfort foods here and I wanted to try everything on the menu. I had a really nice salmon and quinoa salad which actually filled me up! It had lots of salmon - could have been a good entrée size. My husband had the chicken corn soup and really enjoyed it. The beef goulash and the vegetarian sandwich were great. There are so many things I wanted to try so we will have to come back!

Good eats. The stew was wonderful !!!! Definatly homemade!!

Spice?. Mediocre at best.

Impeccable service, once again forgot to mention I have an allergy until the food came, so rude I know, and they were amazing. They accommodated me when I was in the wrong, thank you friendly burgoo staff. The food...it's just food you can't stop eating even when you are full. Excellent!
Andre
Wow!! Burgoo you rock!. This hipster heaven of a place has amazing soups ( chicken corn was A-MA-ZING) , sandwiches, coffee and service. Loved everything there. Will go back ASAP.
Cheese Me Please
Comfort food at it's finest!. My partner actually introduced me to this place years ago. Needless to say, this place is always on the top of our list when we have special occasions or date nights. He loves the soups and I basically inhale the buttermilk biscuits ( and I will not/ do not share them with anyone, no matter how special you are in my life).

The food wasn't bad nor amazing. It felt it lacked something that hits the tastebuds. It's heavy confort food. The service from our waitress wasn't bad but it take over 45 mins to get our food.

Obsessed with the crab bisque! Every couple of months I will get an insane craving for the crab bisque and grilled cheese. Satisfied that craving today :) I wish they would serve the soup a little hotter as it was lukewarm and if there was an option to have a half sandwich, it would be PERFECT.

The atmosphere is cozy and patio is great in the summer. Our table ordered the beef bourguignon, jambalaya and chicken salad for dinner. The food is nice but not great and I can't quite justify the small entree portions for the price. The sandwiches we saw other tables order did look to be larger portions and I began to think I should have ordered one of those instead. Overall, the food is ok but did not feel to be worth the price we paid.

Takes too long to get a seat. Sat at the bar because we didn't want to wait that long for a table and even that was a wait. Food was good but not fabulous. Had the beef Bourguignon which was decent.

In short Burgoo wasn't bad but it wasn't great. I ordered the corn and chicken soup to start and the Kentucky Burgoo as the main. I loved the soup. Didn't like the Kentucky Burgoo that much. It tasted like pasta sauce with BBQ sauce reduced a little. It was missing some carbs. Bread, rice, give something.

Nono, no.. This place took forever to seat me.<br/>when my food came, it was burnt.<br/>i ordered the grilled cheese, which was so over priced. not ever again.

Was a fave until last summer, had an awful food experirnce! had the seafood chowdr, just for something different, couldnt even get through half of the bowl, granted swafood not the specialty, but dont think it has to be a specialty to traliae uouve put tway too much salt in it!not coming back

Comfort Food for a Rainy Day. Great place for comfort food or if you're craving mac n' cheese in a rustic space. Staff were busy but nice and managed to keep us happy. Will return.

Heart stopper sandwich. What a neat place. We sat at the bar and chated with the bar keep while we enjoyed a fantastic lunch. Great environment, friendly staff, interesting menu. Didn't see a grumpy face in the place. I had a sandwich and salad. The sandwich was delicious, nothing healthy about it and I would do it all over again :)

French Onion Soup, mmmmm. First time this little piggy has been to Burgoo and wondering why she didn't go sooner. Rustic, cozy ambience. High end comfort foods. Great service. Looking forward to trying all the other locations.<br/>Ordered Little Devils and French Onion soup. Both delicious apart from being a little too salty. The menu has a large variety of items making it difficult too choose. All tempting!

Delicious comfort food that may put you to sleep. A Mount Pleasent favourite, Burgoo consistently has delicious comfort food that can leave you comatose later. Not that that's a bad thing, but just be sure that you're not planning to run a marathon or do any construction work after. <br/><br/>They have a great patio that's best used in the summer, but if you bundle up it's great in the fall and spring as well, as you'll get to watch some Main St. TV.<br/><br/>The service has always been excellent, and everything on the menu is worth trying at least once. If you're not in too much of a rush and the budget allows it, be sure to try out their desserts as they certainly get the tastebuds going.<br/><br/>On a side note, it's a great place for a first date, but like I said above, the food can be a little heavy and may make you feel floated or sleepy, so try getting a soup and sandwich when you're on a date so you have the energy for anything you have planned afterwards.

Best grilled cheese!. My bf and I love going to Burgoo when we want to have some comfort food, so when we went the other night for their gooey grilled cheese and dos diablo sandwich we were so happy! The soups there are awesome and the strawberry lemonade is fantastic, sweet but really delicious. Overall, I really like going to Burgoo for the great service and delicious comfort food!

Just had another great dinner. My wife had a "Pimms cup" which, after having spent a month there recently, she thoroughly enjoyed. I had the Paella and she had the grilled cheese. Both were excellent. We began our meal with the Brie fondue. It is sooo good. So far I'm managing to only have this "out". If I start making it at home I'll be putting on the pounds in no time. Service was great. Casual atmosphere. Not a huge dinner rush yet. We were seated @ 5:30ish. So maybe a bit early. But again this is a must have on your regular eateries list. If you haven't yet. Try it. You'll love it.

Burgoo is always a solid choice for tasty food and good service. I particularly enjoy their sandwiches and they have some yummy comfort food dishes too.

Cheesy goodness and great patio!. Their patio is amazing and gets sun throughout the entire day. As well, their cheese fondues and grilled cheese sandwich are ridiculous - SO much cheese! Their hummus is also really good, but very garlic-y, so make sure your date is eating it too.

Wonderful service. Delicious soups. XL spoons are just too large! Ask for a teaspoon so that you can savour every bite.

When will I ever learn.... First things first, I will definitely give Burgoo credit for it's food. I've never had a complaint about the food (on multiple past visits).<br/><br/>But good food only goes so far when the service sucks. I am always willing to give a restaurant another chance if service is off, but service at Burgoo, in my experience, is consistently bad. To the point that I'm finally writing this, because I have always been dissapointed by the service. A few past experiences include walking in at 10:55am (they open at 11, but we weren't eyeing the clock and didn't know we were early). Not only were we met with a surly "We're not open", they chased us out and then locked the door! Might I mention this was in December? Another time, our server forgot altogether to ring in our food, and after waiting an hour since ordering, we inquired, only to be told - "Oops! I forgot to ring it in!" - we were on a time deadline and said as much, and he said "well I can pack it up for you?". Still got charged for everything, and not even as much as an apology. <br/><br/>Went for lunch today, was seated at noon, was given menus ten minutes later, and was not approached by a server until 12:25pm. Not for lack of tables around us being served. We sat there for more than half an hour without getting so much as a glass of water. Our server eventually showed up and took our drink and food order, but didn't write it down. Ten minutes after that, when returning with the water, we were asked to confirm our order. As in, it hadn't even been rung in at that point, because she didn't remember it. Without bothering to hash out the rest of the details, we did not get to eat until an HOUR after being seated, and got cold soup.

Great atmosphere. The place offers comfort food. We had the Brie Fondue, Beef Bourguignon and Lamb Tagine. They were all good. Very rich. Lots of meat and the veggies in the dishes were done just perfectly. Sometimes the taste of lamb can be very over powering but it wasn't. The portions were large. Service was good. Even though they were very busy they did not rush you out the door. Had to wait about 45 minutes for a table but they give you the option to leave and they would call when a table became available. As there were 3 of us they called first and advised is that there was a table for 2 and gave us the option of taking the table or to wait for about another 15 minutes for a table for 3. Atmosphere is relaxed and not so loud that you couldn't carry on a conversation. I thought the prices were a little expensive but I would definitely go back.

Burgoo has excellent comfort food. perfect for the rainy winter months. the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. i'm a big fan of the jambalaya. it's a bit pricey but well worth it...

Fantastic!!! Tomato soup = wow, Fonduemental = unbelievable, Caesar salad = light and excellently flavorful, Tastier chicken sandwich = bold, layered flavours and amazing bread. This is a fabulous spot!!

SOOOO GOOOOOD. I love this place. AMAZING food, great atmosphere and reasonable prices. Always quite busy, which sucks sometimes but it's worth the wait. Their house salad and house dressing, cheese grillers (grilled cheese sandwich), and corn chowder are AMAZING. Only disappointment I've had there is the cheese fondue. Waste of money, don't get it. You can make an equally good one, if not better, at home, and it's pretty small so totally not worth the money. Staff has always been nice enough for sure. Oh, and their seasonal beers are always great. Last one I remem is a grapefruit lager...DELISH.

Comfort food with style. Tried a few different dishes, including the Burgoo. (suggest not ordering it with biscuits and sticking to mashed potato). Soups, awesome! Salad, wonderful! Sandwiches, yummy! Great little place!!

So Fresh!. Mmmm, I had the hummus and Pita which was absolutely delicious! Then for the main course I decided to have the winter greens salad which was a great size for the price and soooo delicious as well as the butternut squash soup. <br/><br/>I was incredibly impressed with this restaurant, it was rather small but the tables all had good room and I think I only waited about 20 minutes for a table for 2. It was really cute and cozy. <br/><br/>All the food tasted really homemade and fresh it was really good, I really really really enjoyed this restaurant and would recommend it to all of my friends. I'm a vegetarian myself and I found it very easy to find something to eat.

Affordably bland. For a resto specializing in stews, across the board all said dishes are bland.,,,, price wise, cant complain. pass on fondue, heated bechamel sausce. a tweaking with herbs and or spice would be such an easy fix for a recomendation. i feel like leaving a bouquet of rosemary at the door as a hint and gift.<br/><br/><br/>-----27 Jan, 2012-----<br/><br/>Burpoo. Three strikes your out. horrible butter chicken. bland beef bourg twice. seriously is it this location, all the hype and food that is mediocre at best.

Hearty Homestyle Soul Food!!. Sooooooooooooo Good, especially on a wet cold January afternoon!!

Feeling cold? Burgoo has comfort- and cheese.. Last week our friend wasn't keen on Burgoo because he thought it sounded like a diner ("soups? grilled cheese? does it even have a liquor license?")- but he was sold the minute we walked in. This place is great.<br/><br/>All of the locations feel warm and inviting, and we've always had excellent servers. The upscale-rustic bistro rooms somehow work for both romantic dates and noisier groups; the food is reliable, tasty, and indeed comforting (in a calorie-induced coma kind of way).<br/><br/>The french onion soup, grilled cheese sandwiches, fondue (for sharing or one person's dinner), goulash, and hot chocolate pot are particularly good. <br/><br/>Hot dishes get served on wooden boards & the bill arrives in a little bamboo steamer basket, which show the little details here. My only issue this last visit was that the bread for the fondue didn't taste as fresh as I expected.

Salt or....?. Went to Burgoo as it was highly recommended by two close friends. Food was alright, although pretty overpriced for homestyle comfort food. 1-2 hours later we were both SO thirsty we drank an entire Brita jug of water! I dont know what they added to the food, I sure hope its not MSG

Brie fondue. Missing france? like cheese? Memories of Alsace spring to mind when I dip my rustic cubes of bread into the brie fondue. It's perfect for one person (since I never get to eat fondue with my family as my hubby's lactose intolerant!)

Comfort Food Heaven. OMG I love this place.... its a menu comprised of comfort food from different cuisines and it couldn't be better. Everything I have ordered ( and I've been there my fair share of times) has been amazing, the staff is always phenomenal. If you don't know what to order, the mac and cheese and the grilled cheese are always good choices!

Yummy!!. I have been to Burgoo twice in the past month. It is a perfect place to go for a Sunday brunch when it's raining and cold out. The atmosphere is so warm you feel like you're in a cottage somewhere.<br/>The staff are super nice.<br/>What can I say about the grilled cheese? Just delicious - the bread is top noch and it is sooo cheesy!! I've had the butternut squash soup and the french onion soup - both were spot on. They even serve it with freshly baked bread. And the ceasars are on special on Sundays....<br/>I have no complaints and will be back a third and fourth time!!!

Try the Burgoo BLTCG and crab bisque with strawberry lemonade. I do not recommend the ratatouille.

Mmm. One of my favourite regular restaurants on Main. It's always really busy though, but the food is great. Strongly recommend it =)
