Review Small Victory - Vancouver

a bit pricey but so cute! super trendy and aesthetic cafe and pastries were very yummy. Seems super popular as it was difficult to find an empty seat! The almond croissant was incredible and i loved the croissant bites! They were executed perfectly and so cute <3 def come here if ur looking for an aesthetic cafe to go with friends

Have to stop by for a post yoga workout. Arrived around 115p so it wasn't crowded. I had the Chicken Pot Pie for lunch. Loved that flaky crust. Filling is flavorful and chunky, not a lot of gravy. I picked up some desserts to go: shortbread cookies, lemon tart, passion fruit cheesecake, strawberry tart, and pear tart because I just can't control myself and I like to share. Friendly staff, great seating area. Outlets available at the tables.

I really wanted to like this place. On first impression, it looks hip, trendy and well....what's better than a bakery/coffee shop...right? Bakery/Coffee shop = bread, pastries and coffee....all three failed in this place. The service was great. They were friendly, helpful, attentive and professional. The atmosphere was also nice. I ordered the Breakfast sandwich and the coconut cake and coffee. The coffee was so sour that it actually gave me a lemon face first thing in the morning and it was lukewarm. The breakfast croissant was burnt and very very oily and the egg inside was unseasoned and tasted like plastic (see pic.) I took it to the counter and the manager offered to replace it and it wasn't any better the second time and when I told her about it, she was very sorry and actually told me that they are pre-made....well it tasted like it ....not fresh. Disappointing in a bakery! I mean it's a bakery...you know....you bake...no?! The coconut cake was also not fresh and tasted refrigerated..... :( We left and went to Starbucks and had our coffee and croissant there. :|

First of all, I love the branding and look of the store - very much appreciated! Most importantly though - great pastries, sweets, and breads! My boyfriend and I got the regular croissant, an almond croissant, and a chocolate cake. All pretty great - I’d say I would skip out on the chocolate cake next time though - very rich and dense, but still great. I’d love to come back and try their croissant donuts next time! Can’t wait.

Their baked goods are delicious and I am addicted to their almond croissants. Flaky, buttery and the right flavor. Their scones are moist, flaky, and very light. The service great and I love that they have a patio extended to the street, which makes it very dog friendly.

The almond croissant was excellent, but the croissant donut with pistachio cream filling was not good. No really texture and the cream didn’t taste nice at all. Service was friendly and I would return to have the almond croissant again and try some of their other goods. It’s a pretty wide selection.

This is a cute cafe in yaletown. Great place to sit and chat with friends may it be inside or out on the patio. They got lots of pastries, desserts and brunch! I ordered the latte with oat milk and it was really good, got the 12 ounce but it left me wanting more. My friends got the lemon tart and double chocolate layer cake slice, while I got the chocolate chunk cookie. I’d say for what you get, everything is fairly priced in comparison to other cafes. If you get the chocolate cake slice, would definitely recommend sharing it with someone as its pretty rich and dense (in a good way) - would recommend to all chocolate lovers and it’s priced well. The lemon tart was like a lemon meringue and it was quite refreshing, but I feel a bit small for the price you pay. Lastly, the cookie was a bit on the sweeter side, which make it pair well with a coffee or tea. One thing to note was that it was quite buttery and greasy. It satisfied my cookie loving cravings though. If you’re in the area looking for a cute cafe with a variety of food options and good coffee, come here. I really have no complaints!

Super cute bakery that has a nice aesthetic. I highly recommend their almond croissants. But, everything is super yummy here so choose whichever one speaks to you most. There's a time limit to how long you can sit inside, but it's the perfect amount of time to enjoy a small snack and drink your coffee at the same time.
Yes. We,re Eating Again.
Located on Homer Street between Helmecken and Nelson, SVB is currently (June 13, 2020) open for take-out. Line up safely, place an order and pay at the counter and wait for your order at one of three tables designated for the purpose. It worked smoothly and we walked around the corner to Emery Barnes Park to enjoy our treats. SVB's entry in the Croissant Challenge is a Freshly Milled Buckwheat Croissant with Valrhona Dark Chocolate Bannetons. Really tasty! I'm feeling like the buckwheat added a measure of earthy flavour but it was also buttery and rich. The chocolate really added a serious punch. Try this! Of course, we had to try a couple of other things too. This Lemon Cranberry Scone could win the scone challenge if there was such a thing going on. It wasn't overly sweet and just crumbly enough. Finally, we tried an apple tart which was also tasty. Dessert for breakfast is a good thing. Lots of fruit for a small pastry and we recommend it. We completed this delicious breakfast with a decent Americano. Lots of choices here beyond even what is in the pastry case. If it was close to home, we'd add on the pounds pretty quickly I think. When they open up their dining area, it will be a great place to relax and enjoy a treat and a coffee.

This is a busy location but both times I've went, we manage to snag a table after hopping around some temporary spots on benches and random chairs. It doesnt feel catastrophic due to high ceilings. Great upbeat vibe. Almond croissant was delicious and crispy, but quite oilier than others I've had. They must put almond butter in the middle as my fingers were left greasy. The coffee is good, so i would definitely be returning regularly. I did find things to be pricey, but it is Vancouver. Both times I went, I found the separate coffee bar to be a bit confusing as I didnt know when and where I would pick up my drink. I often had the feeling they missed my order.

Review is for Granville St. Beautiful bakery. Coffee is spot on, small menu with great food presentation. Nice staff and quick service. This is close to home so will definitely be a regular stop.

On a dull afternoon, walking around in Yaletown, we stopped here for coffee and some desserts. Got a latte, peach tart and tiramisu. The latte was just ok and tiramisu was also medeocre. The peach tart was really bad. There were some interesting coffee options, but nothing too out of the ordinary. Probably would not visit again.

Very trendy, minimal, and modern decor in here. Felt spacious and not crammed. A very 'Instagrammable' place if you're into that! Found the drinks and food to be alright.

Barista handle coffee beans and tea leaves with care. They are all professional. I enjoyed the coffee & the bakery items at the bar table. <br/><br/>Highly recommend to all coffee lovers.

This place was recommended by one of colleagues so we decided to come here for coffee. My first impression was the place was extremely busy but it was nice and trendy decor. I ordered my usual cappuccino and almond croissant. One of my coworkers ordered matcha latte, another ordered americano and another ordered drip coffee. They all liked the drinks except me. First off, the cappuccino seemed to not fully filled up so it was partly 1/3 empty. Second the milk froth wasn’t creamy and wet foam; the milk was overly froth at high temperature so the froth milk tasted like boiling milk to me. Third the coffee had a sour aftertaste. I was quite disappointed in my coffee that’s for sure. The only thing that made me satisfied was the almond croissant. My almond croissant was a bit dry overall but it was tasty with lots of almond filling inside. I was disappointed in my first experience here but I would give this place another try. I figure if I don’t like cappuccino, I can get matcha latte. Depend on what you get, the price is either same or bit less.

3.4/5 the tiramisu is tasted like a chocolate mousse. I can't even finish :) I like the pear tart though. It is sweet, but tasty! They also have cortado on the menu!

After suffering bad coffee in Whistler for a week. Yes they make it in buckets with garden hoses we looked forward to some decent coffee in Vancouver. We found it. Nice good quality sandwiches and cakes. Worth a drop in. Went on a Sunday arvo, seats a bit tight. Lots of singles hogging the tables with Mac books!
MiffyEats
The place just has a university vibe to it. Lots of one-on-one tables, people on MacBooks and chatty conversions. <br/><br/>The coffee is not half bad! Being an Aussie and a born coffee snob, the piccolo was up there with your above average Aussie cafes. <br/><br/>The sandwiches come out hot and freshly made. Good fillings and lots if taste. That bread though... delicious! The roasted pepper chicken breast was perfect to warm me up on this cold winters day. Still can feel the cajun sauce in my lips.<br/><br/>The salted caramel cheesecake is decadent without being to sweet. Its fluffy and creamy and goes so well with the bitterness of the coffee and the slight chili taste left over from my sandwich. <br/><br/>The staff are fun and energetic. The food came out quick. I like how everything comes on its own hipster serving board. No pressure to move on even though there's lines at the counter.
Hello. Imnikki
One thing that I miss about Melbourne whenever I'm travelling is coffee. Nothing beats the coffee culture in Melbourne, and being able to get any caffeine fix is very important to me. Enter Small Victory Bakery. This cafe/bakery reminds me of home, from the friendly laid-back service to the cafe aesthetics and also the great coffee and pastries. I got to savour the most enjoyable cup of latte since my arrival in Canada - full-bodied, balance and rich. I also got to indulge in some lovely baked goods. The bacon and cheese scones was rich and crumbly, and the almond croissant was pleasantly flaky and buttery despite being a bit dense in the middle. <br/><br/>I'm sure if I were in Vancouver longer, Small Victory would be my go-to cafe for coffee.
Christina Chan
Love the coffee, pastries, and sandwiches. Best place to hang out on a Saturday casual brunch. I like sitting and watching the Barista make their drip coffee and the staff busy in the back of the open kitchen.

Small Victory is a popular bakery in Downtown that I've been meaning to visit for the longest time. The place was pretty busy when I arrived there this Sunday morning, and I could see the staff members stocking the display case with a beautiful assortment of cakes, tarts, and pastries. I had a bacon & cheese croissant and a cinnamon brioche bun.<br/><br/>Bacon & Cheese Croissant (around $5): 5/5; It had a really flaky crust that melted in my mouth and a generous, savoury slice of bacon inside. I polished this off in no time.<br/><br/>Cinnamon Brioche Bun (around $5): 5/5; Again, the pastry was melt-in-my-mouth. The sugar and cinnamon coating had a perfect level of sweetness and spice, and I absolutely loved the cream cheese frosting (in my opinion, a cinnamon bun's not complete without cream cheese frosting), which was sweet and tangy, and had flecks of vanilla bean speckled throughout.<br/><br/>If I judged only by the food that I've tried, this place would be a 5. Unfortunately, I am turned off by the prices for their cakes and tarts: they were way too high for the portion sizes being offered. Although I would love to try one of their cheesecakes or cruffins, I just couldn't justify paying $5-$6 for something that I could probably finish in 2-3 bites. But I'd definitely be back for their delicious and more reasonably sized viennoiserie.
LiveToEat
Fancy, pricey, yummy. Been here multiple times. Their almond croissants are my favorite thing so far. Not a fan of their regular croissants. Great place.
VanFoodies
Food & drinks here at Small Victory are relatively reasonably priced. I would order any of the croissants again and again. The cakes also looked very pretty. There are not that many seats, and people tend to hang around at coffee shops, so finding a seat here could be a challenge during peak times.

Yaletown may have it’s share of cafes but never a mix of cafe and bakery like Small Victory. This shop has a cool aesthetic to it with it’s marble counter tops, hexagonal plates and gold trim. The pastries are baked in house in the open kitchen, just like your coffee. Their matcha is fantastic – I prefer my matcha not too sweet and Small Victory delivers with a nice hint of sweetness and roasted flavour.

Came here today and the Tiramisu was absolutely amazing! Very sweet and delicious, the service was great, tried the Iced Tea out and the Bakery was beautiful inside. I'd definitely come here again for sure! (:

Amazing dessert and pastries! A definite must try, they have the best almond croissants that I have ever had and their "exotic white chocolate cake" is very good as well, personally my new favorite bakery

I feel speechless.. so I'll keep this short;<br/>Unique decor concept- right down to the honeycomb boards<br/>Beautiful pastries, that are every bit as delicious as they look.<br/><br/>Worth every pretty penny, Bonne bouche! ♡

Great little coffee shop with delicious pastries both savory and sweet. Amazing coffee! <br/><br/>Stopped in for a quick pastry and a coffee with a friend. It's always super busy but I like the vibe and the food here is good. I've yet to try something I didn't like. My friend got the chicken pot pie and I snagged a bite ...mmmmm so good. I got a lemon tart and cinnamon tea and my friend had an amazing mocha. <br/><br/>All around I'll be back more than once, it's a good stop when on that side of town!
J.Grab
Super cute spot for a casual date. I liked the idea of getting mini desserts and doing a sort of tasting (extra points for presentation!). The salted caramel cheesecake is a MUST and I also enjoyed the lemon tart. Definitely on the pricier side but worth it, can't wait to go back!<br/><br/>Side note: After my first visit I decided to order a cake from them for an event. I emailed twice with no reply, called multiple times but their line kept breaking up and later nobody was picking up. Overall terrible service when trying to get a hold of them.
YVR Foodie
Another Cutsie place to eat. I ordered the vegetarian breakfast croissant with a mocha and my friend ordered the chicken pit pie I believe. The barista was super sweet, as we basically sat at the table where he was making drinks. The food itself was delicious and the place was pretty crowded with people. Don't think it's the best place to study since it is super packed, but I still saw some people that had their laptops out.
Al
Place is a dud. Went in shortly after they opened so hopefully it's better. The cashier epitomized hipster dbaggery, feigning not to care, or worse yet, he really didn't care. Took our order and money, that was all, no hello, no how's your day. Nothing. I ordered a latte and a muffin. Latte was standard neither great nor bad. The muffin was the size of a pea and cost an arm and a leg. I don't mind paying for products that seem like I'm getting value out of it, but don't charge me $4+ dollars for something that I can eat in one bite.  Atmosphere is not appealing either.  Cold and stark. More like a medical clinic than a coffee shop. Overall a terrible experience and I haven't been back. <br/><br/>It was clean, very clean which is why they get a half point.
Green Tea
This review is only based on the food, not including the service because I haven't been into the store yet; my friend just bought me some cakes from there. <br/><br/>I'd tried their chocolate mousse, double chocolate cake, and Mont Blanc which has the chocolate ganache on the bottom. The chocolate tastes strong and bitter. However, the chestnut cream for the Mont Blanc can be less sweetened with stronger chestnut taste. I like their wagon wheel (bourbon cream coated with chocolate with a thin layer of chocolate cake inside) because I can taste the whiskey. I can also taste the coffee liquer in their tiramisu. Their espresso banana hazelnut mousse cake looks fancy and tastes good. You can taste all the ingredients. The caramel for their salted caramel cheesecake is really salted. This is important because there are some places that have salted caramel desserts but you cannot really taste the salted caramel in them. Their cheesecake is not that heavy. The pumpkin cheesecake, which has a little spice in it, has more pumpkin taste than cheese taste.<br/><br/>They put pistachio cream cake in their menu on their website. My friend asked for it in the store and the person there told my friend that they have taken it out. Does that mean they haven't update their website yet?

A perfect little (not so little) slice of coffee heaven in the heart of the city. Great open kitchen concept, always clean and handmade everything. Serenity now and very cool way to serve their coffee and foods. A definite thumbs up
DineVancity
The presentation of the baked goods and drinks are so adorable with the wooden trays they are layer out on! The place was roomy with wonderful staff. I had the pistachio cake was quite dry, but that may not have been the case for the other treats.
Caithlin Power
Amazing coffee. They seriously know their coffee and serve it well. Being from Melbourne, Australia, we have high standards. These guys surpassed these standards! Had a nice brekky croissant with my double shot espresso macchiato. Not a fan of cooked lettuce but whatever, it was fresh and the Cook was attentive.
Brenton Crawford
I frequent this cafe so maybe I'm biased, but it is hands-down one of the best spots in the city for a beautiful coffee and delicious snack. Their cakes are also great to bring to dinner parties (can we talk about their Salted Caramel Cheesecake?). 10/10 will most certainly return.

Walking into Small Victory, I am welcomed by a very bright and open space. The interior is super cute with gold accents. It's the perfect place to have a coffee and chat, whether it's for catching up with someone or even casual meetings. Sophia, the community manager of Zomato kindly invited me here and I'm so glad she chose this place- it's been on my list for months!
Kabir
What an awesome little coffee shop! Nice airy layout, ample seating, and freshly baked yummy goods are all highlights of this place. Now if they'd only rethink their "horchata" and find a way to make it with real tiger nuts (chufas), I'd instantly give them a 5-star rating!
Marv Wang
had a strawberry shortcake and a wagonwheel <br/><br/>i will say that the place is in the heart of yaletown and accesible by skytrain and the place inside gives a spacious feeling due to open kitchen concept. then moving on to the desert. <br/><br/>the wagonwheel, it have a crunchy outer layer of chocolate but also not that thin that when you hold it and when only when you bite it the layer of chocolate breaksdown. as for the inside not sure what filling it's there's the sponge type of cake inside and when you chew it it became granule like sweet flavored sands and a cream that is mild enough to bypass the cake but blends well with the chocolate as well.<br/><br/>as for the shortcake strawberry, the layering and the taste is perfect i'll say. The taste of the berries on top overwhelms any of the topping, however it balances the really soft flavor of cream and cake underneath it. <br/><br/>would really recommend this place to anyone who's into desert, but me , i'm not fond of sweet delicacies, will only come here if i got a date, or recommending desert ;)
KS
One of the best coffee shop/bakeries in town, without a doubt! The coffee they have is fantastic - way better than the chains, and notably better than all the other stand alone coffee shops I've been to. Their baked goodies are also extremely fresh, flavorful, and totally worth the money. <br/><br/>Our 'regular' orders here are the drip coffee, the bacon & cheese croissant, and scones. The bacon & cheese croissant melts in your mouth and has enough butter in between layers of the croissant's shell to... oh what the heck, butter makes things better, doesn't it? And it has bacon! :) I don't quite remember the names of some of the sweet things I've had there, but suffice to say, they're brilliant! Not sure why some people think of this place as trying to be pretentious - it isn't, it's just an awesome coffee shop.
Stella
Heard from a friend that their coconut cake is quite good. We went there try and the cake is very moist with a layer of custard like filling in between. Overall not bad but the slice I had was a little sweet for my liking.
Vivian Chung
Sophia Rizos brought me to this lovely Cafe/Bakery in Yaletown. As I walked down Homer I could smell the baked goods from a block away, I kid you not.<br/><br/>I loved everything about this place. I had a London Fog tea latte that was just absolutely perfect; it wasn't too sweet and the tea had a strong taste. The staff was so great, and they're not bad at latte art either! <br/><br/>The interior is super aesthetically pleasing and all the baked goods looked delicious. I will 200% be back to try the fruit tart. Thanks for introducing me to this gem Sophia!<br/>
Vancouver Barista
The real story of a great coffee shop is finding someone who is passionate, knowledgeable and radiates complete satisfaction from their work. So when we pause on the page of this chapter, you’ll glimpse a picture of the barista at the magical Small Victory in upscale Yaletown.Joseph’s a small, compact guy with a quick smile. Comfortably moving his way around the bar like a speedball blur with quick movements, he is reminiscent of a soccer player skillfully navigating the ball around opponents. Carefully measuring water, grinding and bagging coffee, meticulously cupping coffee at each pour, making a pour over, whipping up a Matcha, dispensing a cold brew, explaining the finer nuances of a tea.Small Victory is Stop 19 in our weekly Search for Vancouver’s Best Coffee.
Constant Cravings
Small Victory has a great array of baked goodies as well as come cheesecake! Located in Yaletown, they are a just a few blocks away from the Canada Line. I had a hard time choosing something since everything in the display case looked equally appetizing. This was the Pistachio Cream Cake. I love how they serve everything on a wooden board! So hipster! I must say that the pistachio cream cake lacked pistachio flavour though. It tasted mostly like the lemon filling in the middle and the vanilla cream on top. Not that I minded since it was still a very pleasant treat. The cake was a little more dense than I expected but still moist.
Bakesandbrunches
Fantastic coffee and super indulgent croissants make Small Victory one of the best coffee stops in Vancouver. Service is always amazing and the interior design is on point. I love waking up early on weekends, walking over before it gets crazy busy, and enjoying my morning latte and almond croissant. It's a Yaletown tradition, that's what it is!
Unepetitfoodie
I've been to SV a couple of times now, and this is a great place to just casually chill and take a break from running your errands. I love their decor which is nice and clean with a minimalistic touch ! Their coffee bar does not disappoint as they consistently make a mad green tea latte ! Coffee aside, I find that their bakery section is a tad on the pricier side. I ended up trying the lemon tart which looked so cute as an afternoon snack. Although it was good overall, I did find the lemon to be too sour...
Ayumonojen
Unpretentious and elegant cafe with sophisticated selection of pastries and desserts. Approachable staff and good seatings too. Would definitely come back for more!
Zoe
Wonderful cafe, good eats, nice coffees, delicious iced jasmine tea, indulgent desserts, sweet staff, beautiful decor! Will be back for sure!
Coconut
Sipped on a delicious London Fog latte and snacked on a slice of coconut cake while working on my laptop at the bar. The latte had pronounced flavours and the perfect amount of fine foam. The cake was soft and had a thin coating of frosting, which was ample because the layer of coconut cream in the middle provided all the necessary moistness. I loved that the coconut coating was toasted and the coconut flavour really came through. Although there is no wifi, I still loved working here. There aren't a ton of tables, but if you're lucky enough to snag one, I definitely recommend doing so. I will be back to dry more drinks and baked goods!

Lovely bakery in Yaletown with delicious sandwiches and baked good. <br/><br/>I had a warm chicken sandwich, lemon tart and chocolate hazelnut croissant. All very good.

Having seen mouthwatering photos from Small Victory Bakery on Instagram, I was enticed to try out their coffee and baked goods.  For a late Friday afternoon coffee break, I headed down to Small Victory Bakery with my husband. Minimalistic & Clean Space. Upon entering the bakery, I was impressed with their minimalistic, clean and wood-accented space.  Large, gold-coloured geometric shapes adorn the wall.  The interior is spacious but there seems to be only a few tables for seating.  There are, however, many seats at the bar.  With Small Victory’s open kitchen concept, sitting at the bar provides a great view of the the baristas preparing drinks.  One thing to remark is that there is a short flight of stairs leading to the main area so this cafe is not accessible-friendly for wheelchairs and strollers.

Great coffee spot, but comes with attitude. When this place first opened I was so thrilled to try it out! Been here 3 times now and have always enjoyed my beverage and pastry but I noticed the staff all have an attitude. Also, My husbands Americans curdled when we used their cream and he said it was because of the coffees high level of acidity, wouldn't you provide a warning to people beforehand?? after he made a new Americano he proceeded to the condiment station to change the cream.... I wasn't sure If it was due to the acidity anymore. Definitely don't appreciate being lied to, especially when your paying so much for a coffee. Their pastries are amazing but not sure I would go back. Other amazing coffee shops to try out.

Posted on May 23, 2015 by mag_mei I was here today meeting with a manager of Zamato. And what better  place to meet a fellow food lover than at a place serving artisan drinks and gourmet pastries. My guest boasted how this was her favourite bakery and how she is here multiple times a week, or even multiple times within the same day. And even as one who doesn’t like sweets, she did like what they served. She wasn’t kidding about her being here a lot. The staff recognized her and a few even stopped to highlight that fact. A few asked her, her name and many made small talk. If this was any indication of the level of service, I would say they were successful at delivering. The bakery is simple inside and out. No flashy signs, no bold colours. Not even a sandwich board on the sidewalk in front. Just a white veneer and gold type face on the windows. You could definitely miss it, if it weren’t for the hoards of patrons lining up and the rotating of bodies in and out of tables. Vaulted ceilings, birch wood floors and cabinets, white walls, and their name in gold script at the back. What was most striking was the abstract wall art by the seating area. Geometric shapes constructed out of metal rods, spray painted in gold. They jutted out of the wall in a three dimensional fashion. Their shine matched that of the golden tap at the help yourself utensil, condiment, and water counter adjacent. There aren’t many small tables and there isn’t much room by the counter, but we managed to wrangle a seat after ordering. You start by the window, where their glass counter showcasing all their cakes and pastries was on display. Savoury croissants and cheesy scones. For something sweet: slic

Chocolate chip cookies are the best at Small Victory, I have yet to try their cold brew.  It's always nice to stop by and grab a delicious latte or americano.  Their lunch menu is pretty good, but get there before 2:30pm if you're looking for some lunch.

This is a lovely cafe with some unique menu items. My kids tried the iced tea and watermelon juice and didn't like them and the staff offered to make them something else. My mocha was excellent. :) Loved the atmosphere and decor.
DanoRama
A gem.. Excellent service, delicious salted caramel cheesecake, not noisy or overly busy and delicious juices. I'll be back.
Kim_brand
Not all that special. The coffee was excellent. The only complaint was no newspapers! A good coffee and read such as the Globe will keep me coming back every time. Too many other good coffee shops for this to make me come back again.
BitterSweetLife Food
I ordered a Latte ($3.75), which came promptly. Nice presentation, I like the little wooden planks they use, the geometry of the shapes work out neatly when placed together (a little thing that makes me happy haha). The latte was quite strong, coffee was aromatic, I'm not much of a coffee expert though =P

This is one of my favourite new coffee shops. The staff are super friendly and the coffee is always delicious. The place exudes a cool, casual vibe and I love the geometric patterns on the wall. The milk and cream dispensers add a retro feel to the place and their Jalapeño & Cheese Scones are not to be missed. I’ll definitely keep returning for the yummy pastries and excellent coffee.
The Foodiographer
First time checking out this bakery, located conveniently in Yaletown. Open spaces, drip coffee, and good vibes.. Small victory is the place to go!
Syd
They’ve got a really great coffee menu that they rotate. This is the reason that I keep on going back, and it happens to be right next to my office. The baked goods: scones, muffins and croissants have also been consistently good, especially the maple walnut scone and pecan tart. The one time that I went and actually sat down, I got the roasted veggie sandwich which was a bit disappointing, nothing special. My friend had the meat pie which was stuffed full and had a nice flakey crust.
Murielle
I love Small Victory! The staff, the food, the ambiance are all amazing. Everyone from our office goes there at least three times a day. For drinks I usually go for their drip coffee and my favourite thing to eat there is the chicken roll, it's so flakey and flavourful I could eat 100. Their bacon and cheese croissant also hits the spot every so often.  The staff at Small V definitely know how to provide great service with a smile. I highly recommend it!
Sophia Rizos
There is nothing to dislike about Small Victory. Not only do they have quality coffees and teas, but they bake all their own bread and desserts. The atmosphere is wonderful, calming and great to relax in. The staff is always friendly and attentive. They treat you like you're family. Love this place!
Adrienne Cousins
Great Americanos - every time!  And the pastries are fabulous too. Croissants are crispy and flaky outside while remaining deliciously soft and light on the inside. Cheesecake is nice and savoury, not too sweet. Perfection. My only criticism is that sometimes when I get the fresh juice in the mornings it is not mixed well and tastes bitter. This happened twice and both times they gave me a new one, which was great. Staff are all very nice.
Pa Ool
Earl Gray Tart. Creamy. Just the right sweetness. Tender, flaky crust. Delicious!<br/><br/>EDIT: Hmmm, I thought I was just adding a menu item, but for some reason, Urbanspoon turned it into a review. Well, if you *insist*... I will add that their drip coffee was pretty good too and no charge on the refill. Not sure if that was an oversight, and it was before I ordered the tart, which is $4. That may seem pricey for such a small thing (2-4 bites), but a) this is Yaletown, not Costco or Walmart, and b) because it's *not* Costco or Walmart, it's not *about* quantity. Frankly, a treat like this shouldn't be any bigger. It was just right, and the price is right too, for something of this quality crafted on-premise. This, from someone who does 90% of their grocery shopping at Walmart. I recognize it's an indulgence, not something I'd be stuffing in my piehole every day.
Partybear_tp
Small yes, victory no. I was looking forward to a new face in Yaletown, but was disappointed. I had a mocha and lemon cake on a Sunday afternoon. Not particularly busy at the time, and turn around was quick. Lemon cake was small for its price, nothing particularly special (not expected either). But mocha turned out to be watery, poor in flavour. If you're just looking for a regular drink, not a place to sit and relax, you might as well head a block down to JJ Bean, Blenz or Starbucks.
Rachel Ma
The cafe is located in Yaletown, and was actually quite busy when I dropped by on this rainy Wednesday afternoon. Love the modern, geometric design of the shop.  Sophia ordered a Chai Rooibos Latte , and I got just a basic   Cappuccino ($3.50) .  The flavour was rich and dominant.. a decent cup of capp! (4/5) There's also something I really like about the wooden board they served the drinks on haha.
Picky Diner
Small Victory Bakery offers decent eats and drinks. However I did not feel the small victory that I was wishing for, finding the price tags unjustified with the overall tasting experience. As I don’t mind paying a bit more for originality or quality ingredients, it is hard for me to fall in love with fancy places that exploit the insecurities of the middle class.

Every baked good is made on-site, another asset you quite need in order to achieve a large portion of consumers in this city. If you happen to come in the morning, you might be one of those lucky enough to get a warm baked scone, smothered with clotted cream and jam. Bliss, I tell you...

Typical yaletown..... I only had a latte here, so can't speak to the bread.. but... <br/>I popped in as I had a craving for a chai latte, I didn't see it on the menu, so I asked if they did it, she said yes. Delighted. I asked her if they had almond milk (I'm lactose intolerant), she said yes, delighted. She rang it through - $7.55!!!!! I looked confused, she said that the almond milk is $2 more - TWO dollars!! Well she had already rung it through and my card was out, and she was giving me that look of "you're not going to cancel are you?", so I paid, in disgust. I wish she would have mentioned it was $2 more for almond milk when I first asked. <br/>I sat at the counter at the pinned down stools, and waited. It was called, I asked if it was chai with almond milk, he said no, so I said that was what I ordered. He didn't apologise, and looked a bit pissed off. Finally got my latte, it was nice, and yes the almond milk was nice, but it was tiny, it was gone in 3 sips. <br/>Very disappointed. Find it a little pretentious which is typical Yaletwon, so...

The best you'll currently find in Yaletown for pastries and baked goods. Yaletown didn't offer much for baked goods and pastries for a long time, the quality of the croissants in this area were particularly mediocre. When I first heard that a dedicated bakery was opening up, I was excited to see what they would bring since I work in the area. I've tried Small Victory four times now, once for lunch and three for quick snacks/breakfasts and am mostly impressed. The quality bump you get from this place almost nudges out the price except for lunch where I find it a little too much. I'll go into some more specifics of each visit.<br/><br/>First trip was in the one morning soon after they opened. I found there wasn't much selection but I think they were just figuring themselves out and what they wanted to offer. Had a really nice scone but it wasn't amazing although since it was much better than any other scone I've had from Yaletown it still warranted giving them another try. <br/><br/>Second trip I went in the afternoon and they were in the process of changing the signs around so I had to ask what each thing was. I was told one was banana bread and went with that since there were no savoury options. I wish they had mentioned it was chocolate banana bread when I had asked as I wouldn't have ordered it, the bread part seemed quite well made but seemed drowned in chocolate. Since not liking chocolate or nuts in my banana bread is my own taste that is contrary to what's most common I still wanted to give lunch a shot too.<br/><br/>Third trip I met a friend for lunch and tried the braised beef sandwich with a side spinach salad and coffee. The price felt a little heavy for as it came to more than $18 but that was due to getting a pour over coffee. The sandwich and side together cost almost as much as getting a braised tenderloin sandwich from West Oak. It feels like the price difference between a cafe and a restaurant like West Oak should be greater but I wouldn't call it insanely expensive at these prices. That being said it was quite a tasty sandwich, expected the beef to be a little juicier but it was tender and flavourful. Bread was hearty and well toasted and the spinach salad was well dressed with some candied nuts and grapes. It won't be a daily or even weekly lunch for me at those prices but I'd get it again sometime. There was an issue where it seems my name & dine-in option were incorrectly written down and someone scooped it up the incorrectly named take-out order right as I was about to ask if it was actually my order. After another later arriving table got their sandwiches I checked up to see if my lunch was still coming and we found out what had happened. They corrected things pretty quickly and then someone even came by after to apologize and gave me a free pastry or coffee coupon. Sure it's better if these mistakes don't happen but I think they handled it with class.<br/><br/>Fourth trip was today to use up my coupon and was very pleasantly surprised in the expansion of their selection. There were more savoury options including sausage rolls and butter croissants. Being a bit of a croissant fiend I couldn't resist trying them as they looked well made enough that I was hopeful they might live up to the standard that Beaucoup Bakery & Cafe has set. It definitely had a crunchy exterior and is the best I've had in the area but didn’t quite live up to my hopes. The butter flavour was a little too gentle for my taste and I found it to be on the tough and chewy side instead of flaky. It seemed like the inside of the croissant looked like it only had a dozen or so layers total so it seems like maybe the dough hadn’t been folded enough or some of the layers had been worked together. Even with these detractions it was still a very enjoyable croissant and worth eating unlike what most cafes try to pass off as croissants. They are close to having a great croissant instead of a good croissant and I earnestly hope they keep improving.<br/><br/>All in all, they are a solid addition to Yaletown and fill a niche that has been empty for far too long. I look forward to seeing more from them in the future.

Wonderful Addition to the Neighborhood!. I seldom write reviews, however, in the case of SV Bakery, I felt compelled to share my wonderful experience. From the coffee to the amazing pastries (the kouign amaan & spelt bread are amongst my favorites) this has to be one of the best bakery cafes in the city. The decor is reminiscent of cafes in Europe's . Definitely a place to meet clients or pickup your morning coffee. Will def be back!

Finally!. First rate bread in Yaletown! Why on Earth did it take so long?

Finally...A True Neighborhood Bakery. Not only is the bread fantastic, but this bakery competes to be the best coffee house in the city. Try any of the scones or a slice of the double chocolate cake - regardless of what you have, you won't be disappointed. It is about time we had a bakery in Yaletown - welcome to the neighborhood!

Delicious lemon tart. I loved the look of this place and it is a nice spot to grab a coffee and sit with friends. The lemon brulee tart is incredible, I love the crunchy sugar on top. If you are in yaletown and want a real bakery come here and skip sweet bake shop unless you want an over hyped cupcake

Great Coffee Shop. Extremely friendly staff, kickass baked goods, nice open vibrant space<br/>what more can you ask for?<br/><br/>They serve drip and pour over coffee using Phil and Sebastian and Bows and Arrows Coffee (both top notch Canadian Roasters).

The worst of Vancouver's many, many cafe-bakeries.. This place was terrible. I work nearby and went to try it out this morning. A $7 scone that took 5 minutes to 'prepare' and a $8 mocha which is 12 ounces (a Starbucks small) and the attitude of the staff, my GOD, like they don't anticipate or understand that a 'bakery' shouldn't be charging twice as much as other high end bakeries or cafes in Yaletown. The WORST of the trendy Vancouver eateries I've seen, and it's mind boggling to me that anyone could see value in them. The scone was decent, and I am sure the coffee is good too for the wealthy coffee snob, but the selection is atrocious and the quality certainly didn't match the price. I won't make this about other bakeries or cafes you could go to instead, but places like Bean Around the World offer way better value and still have the quality, not to mention the service. Why do idiots keep places like this in business? Hipster dining at it's absolute worst.

My friend wanted to check out Small Victory so that we met on Friday afternoon to try their brunch. Small Victory is located in Yaletown, a five-minute walk from the Yaletown-Roundhouse Skytrain Station. It is a spacious bakery with a nice, lovely interior and the open-concept kitchen. You get to see how your drinks are made from the beginning.  So this lady is making my matcha latte right in front of me by using a Japanese whisk. MATCHA LATTE ($5.00) had a deep green tea flavour with a thick layer of microfoam on top. Two of my friends all got the pour-over coffees and they were all satisfied with that as well.  And then our delicious sandwhiches came! I got the BRAISED BEEF SANDWICH ($11) which consisted of braised beef, caramelized onions, spinach, and melted Monterey Jack cheese served on a naturally leavened white whole wheat bread. We thought that the the flavour of caramelized onions overpowered the meat but regardless of that it tasted pretty good. TO DIE FOR CORNED BEEF SANDWICH was on their new lunch menu which was also my favourite on the day. It consisted of slow cooked corned beef, sauerkraut, melted Monterey Jack cheese and mustard on steamed rye bread. The beef was moist, tender bursting with subtle spice and deliciously robust. The mustard and the adequate amount of auerkraut enhanced the flavour which went very good with the corned beef. SPICY TURCHETTA ($11) was my least favourite but only because I am not a big fan of turkey. It had turkey breast rolled in a sage spice mix, a mushroom gravy and spinach served on a naturally leavened white whole wheat bread. After our meal, we ordered two pastries including PISTACHIO CREAM CAKE and EARL GREY TART. The cream cake was soft and moist enough with a nice nutty flavour and tangy lemon curd. The crushed pistachio and whipped cream on top enhanced the tender, melt-in-the-mouth texture of cake. The earl grey tart was alright, but we all agreed that the tart did not taste like earl grey, but it rather was si

The fourth Brunch Crawl of the series, the Downtown Brunch Crawl boasted a diverse selection of eight different restaurants. From newly-opened bakeries to a taphouse under a hotel, this crawl covered everything. For this crawl, the check-in was at Kingston Taphouse and Grill. Check-in is quick and easy, you present your ticket or give your name, and you are given your ‘passport’ for the crawl. Your passport is required to show to each restaurant you visit, and it conveniently has a map on the back with all of the marked locations you can visit. Since there is no specific order you must visit the restaurants, you can plan your own route to hit up the restaurants. My personal favourites were Small Victory Bakery and Bella Gelataria. Once again, there was an abundance of food, and this time I ended up packing home the food from the last couple of stops. The service at each stop was similar to the last Brunch Crawl I did- quick, efficient and welcoming. I wish I could go on a Brunch Crawl every weekend! Kingston Taphouse & Grill Cornbeef hash, banger with confit cherry tomato, gravlax with dill and chive hollandaise on a buttermilk biscuit. Chic new bakery in Yaletown serving acceptable coffee and mediocre tasting pastries.

Overall the coffee, baked goods, and the food at Small Victory is fantastic. In addition, Small Victory has a lovely interior design. My only issue with Small Victory is the price. I understand that rent is ridiculously expensive in Yaletown and the Canadian dollar is not doing so well either, but I just hoped they would have slightly more reasonable prices. Regardless, If you are in the area, I would highly suggest you visit Small Victory Bakery.

... bread was so hard it hurt the inside of my mouth cavity if I took a normal bite; beef was not dry though, as promised by the server, decent especially with my less than impressive encounters with braised beef...

What I like so far about SVB, is clearly how hard their working and trying. They're already very well staffed with a bunch of workers in their different areas, pouring over every detail.
