All points for location. In the summer time if you want to be in the middle of all the Robson action and still find a nice corner to sip you cup of joe, this is the best location.
No comments on the coffee but it's pretty standard!
Breka is a European bakery with several locations around Vancouver. We visited the downtown Vancouver location during a weekend for a meetup with some old friends. Before coming, we read that this place is always busy and would be hard to find seating. We must have came at the right time as we were able to find a few empty tables. They also have a long communal table on the North side of the bakery. Overall, the bakery was very spacious and nicely renovated with bright lights and large windows.
Great café for studying, relaxing, and enjoying time with friends! It should also be noted that this café is open 24 hours a day, so time will never really be a concern if you're wondering when they close.
I spent about five hours here studying for an exam, and it is pretty much busy 'round the clock. Every time I'd look up, the lineup for food and coffee is about 20 people long. Make sure to get here early to get a seat, or you could just get lucky and catch someone about to leave their table.
I had the chocolate hazelnut donut and the hedgehog mocha. Yeah, I did decide to treat myself. The donut was okay, I expected something a little more original than a yeast donut filled with nutella, but it tasted great nonetheless. The hedgehog mocha was excellent; I am a fan of flavoured coffee, and while you could taste the coffee, you could definitely taste the hedgehog chocolate in there, and I loved every sip.
Bottom line, I will definitely be coming back! Go and give Breka a try sometime.
One of my favourite bakeries in Vancouver is Breka (see review here) and they have a location at Robson and Bute. For the collaboration, I decided to feature their donuts ($1.25) and smoothies ($4.50). Donut flavours were chocolate with sprinkles and strawberry. For the smoothies, I went with strawberry and green tea.
Good place to sit and have dinner did and coffee.
Very busy on the weekends.
Casual atmosphere.
My usual thing to get is the Breakfast Croissant.
The coffee here's is ok and not burnt.
The desserts are great.
Every time, I end up doing humanity a favour and I go for the coffee but every time, the lady behind the till man handles my rim and every time, I die a little bit more inside.
What kind of person would I be to walk away from a small americano with room when it only costs me $2.10? You might call me cheap, but you would be right.
I'm so thankful for this place being open 24/7!! Plus, they serve a wide variety of desserts and pastries, and even have loaves of bread for sale.
I love this place, it looks so nice and inviting with the couches and tables and all the delicious food on display. I also love how the coffee options are pretty exotic, like I had the Raspberry Mocha and it was fantastic! The desserts or so good as well, and they aren't too expensive. If you find yourself eating dinner around Robson street, it's so convenient to just take a walk, check out some of the clothing stores and then go to Breka for dessert. And since it's open 24 hours, you can also either do some all night studying here, or come here for a late night snack after going out drinking with your friends. It's perfect!
This place is open 24/7 and is almost always full. I had an Americano which I found pretty good. The breakfast bagel not so bad either. Good place to come to if you're bored at 2AM and want to work on some things.

I was referred to Breka by a friend. Her and I decided to go to the place together since she had been adamant for me to try Breka and for her to see my reaction. Knowing nothing about the place, I prepared myself to spend anywhere from $25-40, and ended up spending $18 on a very large sandwich, large smoothie and a fair-sized slice of cake. The Montreal Style Smoked Beef sandwich was toasted enough to have both a slight char and be at a perfect temperature. The Blueberry Acai Smoothie was not too sweet and the Mango Mousse Cake was light and creamy. I wish I had ordered more.
came here after quick lunch with my sister, and she's a desert person, so went here, and i'm not a desert person by any way, but being with my sister meant, there'll be desert, so she ordered a lemon type of desert, definitely the taste of the lemon is there and it taste good with the sweetness hidden in between the very light zing of the lemon taste. definitely good. however that's the only item that i've tasted.
the place is not easily seen unless you went into the street which doesn't seem to have any restaurant area, but it's a good chilling place in dt area.
overall will recommend the place for light/quick desert
I’ve heard many great things about Breka and on numerous occasions, even ventured inside to see what lay in their display cases. However, the very laid back and welcoming atmosphere of this particular location drew me in today…as well as the fact that it was roasting outside. The first thing that you’ll notice is that their case is very diverse! They have everything from donuts to scones to paninis and even cookies!
Breka is an absolute gem. There is both indoor and patio seating. The decor is rather plain with plank board floors and painted brick walls. Walk up the little steps to the display cases. Start at the right and walk by the cases to your left to decide what you want. At the end, they take your order and pay.
The food is phenomenal. The Mushroom and Goat Cheese Quiche was outstanding. The Steak & Cheese Focaccia Sandwich was just as good. The smokey Chipolte flavors pair nicely with the tender ground steak. The parfait was full of fresh tender fruit. The donuts, fritters, tiramisu and triple berry bar were really good.
Huge thumbs up to the food here.
Pastries were surprisingly filling! A cute little bakery that is a great place to sit down abd catch up with frds or to grab breakfast or lunch. However the iced white chocolate mocha was nothing special
Pretzel. Very German, very pretzely :)
Favourite place for late-night dessert!. Love the relaxed, caj environment. The mango passionfruit mousse cake is a must-try!
Breka feels warm and welcoming from the first step in. I love how spacious this cafe is compared to others, giving more sense of privacy instead of being cramped together. I'm absolutely obsessed with their mochas and plan on trying every single flavour. Prices are vey fair for great quality desserts.
Montreal Smoked Meat Sandwich. Delicious, moist, ample meat. Loved the rye-style bread and saurkraut as well!
Tried Chai Latte, Breakfast Bagel, and Strawberry Shortcake.
I must say it's been a long time since I last has such light delicious cake
Yummmy. Went for sunday late morning coffee. delish. loved the montreal smoked meat sandwich (huge!), capuccinno was excellent.
Coffee and Cheesecake!. I love Breka. Out of the 50 times I've been there since they have opened their Robson and Bute location, I haven't had a bad experience. Only once the cheesecake seemed a tad bit old, yet was still satisfactory.
This place is great for their quick and fresh coffee, and their soups and sandwiches are delicious. Being open 24 hours 7 days a week Breka has quickly become a haunt for many of the groups of late night workers.
Great job Breka, I only wish you had your menu online and offered bicycle delivery.
You lucky West Enders!. What a great place Breka Bakery is for the high-rise condo ghetto of Vancouver's West End. You can get high-quality baked goods from this modern, shiny bakery 24 hours a day. The prices seem good, too. I was looking at a poppy-seed roll that was as long and thick as my forearm, and it only cost $9.50. My bicycling group stopped at Breka for a snack after a 60 km ride because one of the guys lives close to it and said this joint is so good that it's slowly sucking the life out of other bakery/coffee spots nearby. I bought a chocolate-almond croissant for $3.50 that's so big I had to cut it in half, and I'm a big eater. It's smothered in almonds and powdered sugar, and amply filled with chocolate and almond paste. I've had more flavourful croissant pastry from other places, but this thing is so over-the-top large and stuffed that I have to give it a "thumbs-up" vote.
The red velvet cake is not too sweet just perfect with lots of cream cheese and a thin layer of chocolate on the middle. Sooo delicious! Definitely going back to try other flavors!
Panini's. I used to work across the street from Breka on Fraser street. I would go in there almost daily to eat. I still drive in from Surrey weekly to eat there mediterranean panini......sooooo good!!!
Better than your average coffee shop. I really enjoy all the pastry and dessert options here. You can get a breakfast sandwich all day! (well I got mine at 2pm so I'm going to assume) It was oookkk, I will say all fast food places do a breakfast sandwich better. The coffee was good too. I think next time I come I will have cake and coffee for breakfast!
YUMMMM!!!. Beautiful cakes... white chocolate raspberry cheesecake.. o m g . soo gooood!
Amazing!. I am in heaven! Everything looks sooo good, The cheesecake is the best I've ever had! It won't be long before I try everything :) My new favorite place to go to when I hit Robson hehe
January 22, 2015 January 22, 2015 / Michael Hung Hey guys! So I’m going to be starting this new category called “Quick Noms”, and it’s going to be short little articles about places that may not necessarily be restaurants. I’m on a quest to find the best cafes and small spots in Vancouver. Recently, I went to this cafe called Breka. Located in busy downtown Vancouver, it’s a great spot for chatting while eating pastries and cakes, sipping on coffee, and studying.
Our first stop was Breka Bakery & Cafe. A local favourite and chain unique to Vancouver, the coffee shop is brightly featured and has an eclectic feel to it. I could foresee myself spending hours here on my computer doing work over a cup of coffee.
...I was delighted to find that Vancouver has quite a few offerings for round-the-clock joints. One that I recently discovered is the Breka Bakery & Cafe just off Robson and Thurlow. It’s a spacious well-decorated cafe that’s open 24 hours. They have a variety of different hot/cold drinks as well as an amazing selection of baked goods. I had simple B lack Coffee with a B lueberry Muffin . The coffee was fine; I think a cafe would have to make an actual conscious effort to make impassable drip coffee. The muffin on the other hand, was absolutely delicious. It was incredibly moist and tender, with a good amount of blueberries mixed in. The crumble on top added for a nice texture variance. My friend Camilla had the Green Apple Smoothie a
