Review Sula Indian Restaurant - Vancouver

Absolutely amazing! The place is beautiful and staff are super friendly and the food is delicious. But the only thing i felt was that the service is pretty slow. You have to wait a lot to order or for the food. The dining experience overall is very pleasant. I highly recommend this restaurant. But a person should have a reservation and spare time to dine in here.

Nice dark decor, beautiful menus. Chicken Tikka tenders appetizer was a little bland and disappointing. But the chicken Tikka Masala entree was very good, and the butter chicken was rich and satisfying. Even the side dish of rice was beautifully presented. Service was slow, and then they asked us to limit our stay to two hours before they brought us the bill, which was unusual. But overall it was a good meal at a good price and a pleasant evening.

Tried their dine-out menu and it was well worth it. Fantastic food (as usual) with full servings. Had lots of left overs and the featured Red Rooster wine was on point. Must try was the Papdi Chaat and Chicken Kadai. Friendly service and beautiful decor. The best thing about Sula is their informative menu. Clearly lists DF, GF and vegan.

lovely atmosphere Food was incredible, drinks were even better. The presentation was beautiful and the interior decoration was so cute! Really happy with the food variety here! I would visit again

We found this place by accident. It was such a good find. Food was delicious. The room was so we'll put together with lots of plants and even a little koi pond. They had red rose petals all over (Valentine's Day) gave ever table a red velvet heart dessert on the house. Very well mannered staff. We will come back.

Searching for a great ambience fine fine? Here it is! LOCATION: Very easily accessible on the main road. AMBIENCE: It is spacious with very chic and rustic interiors. They have some really good handcraft and a tiny artificial pond in the restaurant with koi fishes and a waterfall too.. so relaxing and pretty. MENU: They serve vegetarian and no vegetarian food. Menu has really great options. STAFF: The staff here is super polite and welcoming. OFFERS: They have a full bar. FOOD: Everything here was between average and good in taste. The taste of all the dishes was nice but their presentation was even better. WHAT WE HAD: • Chicken Tikka Sizzler • Paneer Tikka Sizzler • Sula's Chat Platter Please note- sizzler platters don't have any rice/noodles with it. It's just appetizer with veggies. Oh how I miss sizzlers in india🥺 ATTRIBUTES: Ambience: 10/10 Taste: 6/10 Quality: 9/10 Quantity: 8/10 Service: 8/10 Value for money: 6/10 "Dear Food Maniacs, Thank you for reading". Great place! Food was good and prices were decent. I think the garlic paneer naan didn’t really taste any different from regular garlic naan though. Nothing much to say as the server was decent, food was good, atmosphere was nice but a bit busy.

Sula is an average Indian restaurant located on Commercial Drive in Vancouver, British Columbia. They don't offer parking but if you're lucky enough you may be able to snag a spot along Commercial Drive. The interior of the restaurant is lovely, it's dimly lit with nice decorations, they also have an awesome purple LED light that creates a great atmosphere for dining. When I entered the restaurant I was approached by a young waiter who took me over to my table. The restaurant was pretty much empty but the waiter tried to sit me right next to the only other full table, normally that wouldn't bother me because I usually go to restaurants that are full but on this particular occasion it just wasn't right, the two tables were almost connected, so I had to awkwardly ask if I could sit somewhere else, in my opinion he should've known better. Moments later a waitress came over and took my drink order, I attempted to order a Ginger Beer but they only had warm Canada Dry ginger-ale. For food I ordered the Vegetable Samosas, Butter Chicken, Coconut Chicken Curry, Tandoori Chicken, Basmati Rice and Garlic Naan. The Samosas were delicious, usually I order meat samosas but these were really awesome nonetheless. The Butter Chicken was very odd, I didn't think it was very good if I'm being honest, usually Butter Chicken comes pretty standard at all Indian restaurants, this one just had a weird texture to it, something was off, it wasn't terrible but it wasn't great either... also when they served it to me the candle underneath was out so it got cold fast, I wasn't very impressed. The Coconut Chicken Curry on the other hand was pretty good, no complaints about it. The Tandoori Chicken came out sizzling and was great, I absolutely loved it. The rice was good but I wasn't a fan of the big scoop of peas they put on top of it. The Garlic Naan was Garlic Naan, you can't really go wrong. So if you have followed my reviews over the last year I've tried a handful of Indian Restaurants and unfortunately this one is at the bottom of my personal list. The food was mediocre at best. The servers weren't very friendly compared to other Indian restaurants I've been to. My three highlights of the meal were the Veggie Samosas, Tandoori Chicken and the restaurants overall atmosphere. This place has a lot of potential and maybe one day I'll give them a second chance but for now I'll stick to Lazzez's in Coquitlam, Tasty Indian Bistro in Delta or Indian Bombay Bistro in Burnaby.

Very delicious food, nice friendly atmosphere, never have had to wait for a table on the 5 or 6 times I’ve been there. Definitely would recommend the lamb Rogan Josh. Oh and tonnes of gluten free options listed on the menu for those who need that!

By far our favourite Indian food in Vancouver. The owners are very kind and the food is delicious and fresh. Our son won't go anywhere else for butter chicken :)

Great atmosphere, wonderful staff, and good food. A real treat to have this walking distance in our neighbourhood.

One of Vancouver's best Indian restos. Sula never disappoints with its gorgeous decor, cosy atmosphere, friendly, informative service...and SCRUMPTIOUS food!

Amazing experience from the initial welcome, to the excellent appetizer recommendation (delicious pekoras), to a thoughtful send off with a surprise dessert! Thank you for the outstanding service and exceptional food. This is a Drive staple.

Best Indian cuisine in town. And that's coming from a Brit who LOVES his curry!

We don't just get great food while we're here- the owner makes a point of connecting and helping us feel taken care of. Perfect way to celebrate my birthday!

Food was great. Service was exceptional. I'd go there again.

First of all very cool setting, I loved the plants and the water feature. But the server Mithu is why I will return as she is like a burst of sunshine. She knows the menu and is so kind. She has a great sense of humour and is the perfect host. <br/><br/>Loved the naan and of course the butter chicken. I wished my chai had a bit more ginger but otherwise it was still good. I can't wait to go back and I wish I had gone sooner. My friend really loved the chucks of lamb in his curry and the chicken appetizer was perfect.
Dhruv Bhardwaj
Gravy dishes are really good<br/>That, along with the garlic naan can make any foodie bend on knees!!!!<br/>But if anyone asks me, "what is the speciality/usp of the outlet?" then I would definitely say it's the Mango Lassi!!!!
Akhil Mehta
We ate there on a Tuesday evening. It started off with only us there, which worried me, but soon filled up. The decor is interesting and beautiful- lots of water features and artwork. The service was friendly and efficient. The food was delicious. I highly recommend the lamb saag and the daal. Both delightful! We'll be back

I'm not a big fan of eating Indian food in the summertime. But this one is too good, and you can't miss. <br/>My favorite is Paneer tikka, the soft cheese tasted like a creamier tofu, which I liked so much. <br/>The "Chicken Korma" was presented with a look of pumpkin soup. I was so impressed with the light taste, and the texture of chicken meat.<br/>Highly recommend.

I was in Vancouver for the second time so thought of visiting to a new Indian eatery but the kind of response I got from this restaurant was pathetic in terms of behaviour.we asked for a seat and they said if you can’t wait then leave.owner misbehaved very badly with us.he was very much rude and showed his high level of attitude.so I would not recommend anyone to go to this restaurant otherwise you might get hurt very badly.

My dinner club gathering about three weeks ago. A friend has been to this restaurant before and this evening the servers were all males. She recalls there were three or four women last time she was there. Perhaps the women having time off may have made had an impact on how quickly we received our dishes. Well yes that sounds sexists but it’s true. Sorry guys. <br/>We ordered fish pakoras (cod deep fried in spiced chickpea batter and garnished in mango powder), Vegetable Makhni (Assorted Vegetables in creamy tomato and butter sauce), Gobi Aloo (fresh cauliflower and potatoes cooked in a thick curry and flavored with coriander, ginger), Lamb Tikka (tender lamb broiled with ginger, garlic and tandoori spices) and Chicken Saagwala (boneless chicken breast cooked with pureed spinach, onions, cream and fresh garlic). Of course bowls of steam rice and garlic naans. All delicious!! <br/>The cocktails were done just right as well. <br/>Now this is my go to for take out! My kids love the butter chicken and garlic naan. I swing by here after work

Commercial Drive is full of interesting and unique eateries and that makes it an ideal destination for a gastronomic adventure.  For those craving Indian food, Sula Restaurant at 1128 Commercial Drive is one place you do not want to miss.  As a lover of Indian food, I was excited to try Sula Restaurant which has been open for seven years now and comes highly rated online with 4/5 stars on both Zomato and Yelp.  Last week, we visited Sula Restaurant for dinner and tried a few of their offerings.

If you are passionate about OUTSTANDING Indian food Sula is the definitive experience you've been looking for!!<br/><br/>In a city renowned for its gastronomical exploration, Sula has set its sights on becoming the last word in EXCELLENCE. The courteous friendliness of their staff is second only to the artful, expedient preparation & presentation of their unparalleled cuisine. Menu selection is everything you could ask for - our favorites are:<br/><br/>•    Spinach Paneer Naan - defies delicate confection creativity<br/>•    Vegetable Samosa - crisp and lightly battered, velvety textured interior.<br/>•    Tandori Naan - oversized and fluffy<br/>•    Saag Paneer - resplendent in its full roundedness<br/>•    Malai Chicken Tikka - defies artful nuance of creamy seasoned yogurt prep, perfectly grilled juicy deliciousness<br/>•    Chicken Jalfrezi & Lamb Rogan Josh - tender, sizable choice cuts<br/>•    Prawn Vindaloo - their crowning glory!<br/><br/>The Roman Family

We were visiting from Toronto. This place came up through googling Vancouver Indian restaurants. It was fairly good. The samosas and naan were good. We shared a mix of: vegetable vindaloo, chicken tikka masala, and fish malabari. The fish one was amazing, highly recommend. I had a piece of the chicken and the texture was terrible, but according to my bf I apparently got a bad piece. The basmati and coconut rice were both really good. Nice atmosphere. Overall it was fine.

Great curry and naan for the price. Friendly service, good atmosphere. The smell if currybas you are sitting waiting is irresistible. Definitely will come back for that coconut chicken.

Start of a new day and new place to try from the whole bunch of indian cuisine restaurant in Vancouver. Searching online found this Place which made it look good in the pictures rather than what it actually was. The ambience in the restaurant was quite dull( Mostly Dark), mens washroom gave me a feel of being in one of those scary movies which just had a little small light turned on over the Washbasin the rest place to be dark. Talking about the food, tried Samosa for the appetizer and to be frank it was really good( Finally something Good 😝) and then came the main course......Garlic Naan, onion cilantro Naan, kofta dil bahar.... Blah blah.... Nothing too special about it, but was good. Overall a good experience.

Really great atmosphere- I like the painted walls, decor, and attention to detail. I came here for lunch and it was empty- we got great service, the food was outstanding, and the total price was reasonable- about $25. Good selection of vegan food. I would come back at night, as it seems like it would be a lively place.

Fantastic!. Amazing, delicious food! I ate without rice or naan due to food restrictions and it was still incredible. Note that even mild dishes have a little bite, and that all the dishes with sauces are pretty heavy on the tomato sauce. I asked if it's possible to request less or no tomato sauce, and the waiter said to just call a day or two in advance in order to have them prepare a separate sauce. Regardless, it was the most satisfying Indian food I've had in years!
Ksantos77
They adverise they are open at 11:30AM. Why would you advertise that they are open at 11:30 AM when I have called 10 times and drove by 3 times???
Ania.bureacenco
Awesome all around. I've been to Sula at least 10 times now in the last couple of years and every single time I'm greeted with a smile and great service. The food is exceptional - like, really amazing.

Great, highly recommended. We went here for my birthday and the food was fabulous. the best way to eat was to share so we could try a lot of things. I'm vegetarian and as expected there were lots of great dishes to try, while still having many non-veg options. Very knowledgeable and competent service - but subtle, not constantly in your face, which I much prefer.

Super. Delicious food, excellent value and attentive, friendly service!

Great atmosphere, but food was meh. Tried Sula based on a friend's recommendation. First time I ordered the butter chicken with naan bread. One major plus, I like how your curry comes in a stand with a flame underneath to keep the curry heated throughout your meal. The curry smelled great, but it seemed to lack flavour. It was heavy on the tomato, but a little bland and lacking on the spices. The naan bread was really good though.<br/><br/>So I figured OK maybe the butter chicken isn't their strong point, so I went back a second time to try their lamb curry. I forget which lamb dish I ordered but that was by far the toughest lamb I have ever bitten into. I don't know if they just got a crummy cut of lamb from their butcher or if they just didn't cook it right, but if I'm paying this much for a lamb curry, the meat shouldn't be so tough that it crunches when you bite into it. Normally I'd use the 3 strikes rule, but there are other Indian restaurants that are already far better than what I got here and have consistency. But at least the naan was good, so there's that.

Very good food, a great place to take a date!. My Fiance and I went to Sula for Valentine's day, and everything went very smoothly and the experience was nice. <br/><br/>She is a Vegetarian, so naturally at an Indian Restaurant there where tons of choices for both of us. <br/><br/>For me the Naan bread was the highlight! It was crispy, and fresh.

Sula is Superb. Delicious authentic curries, Chicken Tikka Masala and Lamb Rogan Josh are exceptional<br/>Very friendly and knowledgeable staff, one of the best Indian Restaurants in Vancouver!

Delicious!!!. Every time we eat at Sula the food is fabulous! Their spice blends make the dishes so full of flavour. The tandoori chicken and lamb dishes are our favorites. The lamb pasanda is so good and we also love the prawn pakoras. They are lightly dusted with chickpea flour and spices so they are not heavy at all! They make their own naan bread and the garlic naan is amazing. The potato naan is super tasty too! We really haven't had a mediocre dish. It is very good food overall and a great value.

Excellent! What a fantastic place. Beautifully decorated, charming and attentive staff. A wide variety of dishes all very fairly priced. We ordered plenty of food for 5 people and we're pleased with everything. Panner, lamb, chicken, aloo gobi....delicious. The menu is thoughtfully presented with clear indication of their gf and dairy free options for those with allergies. The presentation is exceptional; everything comes out with a warming tealight so the food stays hot while you eat. Will definitely go back. A great find on the drive!

Soooooo good!!! But... I've tried ordering delivery 3 times now and each time I get a different answer why they can't deliver, before dropping the pick up is immediate line. Don't advertise delivery when you clearly don't.

Couple Or large group awesome place. Been here twice recently, 1st time Just 2 of us, 2nd time A group of 10. Absolutely the best Indian food I have found in the lower mainland!! The chicken dishes serve fresh tasty breast meat. None of that hiding dark meat or old hen in the curry dishes.<br/>Even with a very busy and crowded restaurant, the staff and service were good. Hmm maybe ill go back tonight :)

Delicious food, amazing service!. The food is fantastic and the service could not be any better. As simple as that! Highly recommended!

This Restaurant was closed on a Saturday for lunch. If you want a nice Thali, as advertised on the restaurant's website for a Saturday lunch, then this is NOT the place for you. The restaurant was padlocked and closed at 1:00 pm on a Saturday afternoon.

Great Curries, Friendly Service. My first visit at this restaurant was a few weeks ago with 11 others for my friend's birthday. We were seated at the back lounge/bar area, we ordered a bunch of curries and tandoor dishes. I regret not knowing about this restaurant from the time i have lived in Vancouver. All the curries were very tasty and well presented, tandoor dishes came sizzling with great flavor and tasted fresh. Since then i have visited thrice and never been disappointed. On my last visit i shared with 3 other friends, prawn goan curry, Tandoor vegetables, lamb korma and matar paneer with coconut rice, spinach naan & roti and we were in a food coma, Tandoor vegetables were incredible so was the prawn goan curry. Service was friendly and helpful, one person in our group was gluten free and was happy to chose from gluten free curry/naan they have on their menu all of this with a great atmosphere, Highly recommend this spot to all indian food lovers in Vancouver

Food's OK but very bad service. I went a few weeks back on another trip to Vancouver. <br/><br/>Loved the place but once I got seated and the waiter started dealing with us, it just went downhill from there. Does it ever seem that the food is bad if the experience is bad? <br/><br/>In honest judgment I think the food was ok, but the service just was horrible. He waited about 15 min to get us our bill and 10 minutes to bring us the appetizers and main dishes. He waited so long on the appetizers that we ended up basically having them with the main dishes. <br/><br/>Not coming back I guess...there's so much better places around like Handi at dunbar.
Saurabh.rules
Service terrible, food overpriced. This was our 2nd time at this place and since our experience was quite similar I thought I would write a review. Our waitress was not friendly bordering on rude. Then our food took over 40 mins to come out and when it did one of the dishes was cold. When we were done we asked for our bill and I told our waiter that the service had been extremely slow and that one of our dishes had been cold. He apologized and it took him 10 mins to bring our bill, he removed the charge for the cold item and then said he would be right back with the machine so we could pay, I waited another 7 or 8 mins for him to return and just ended up paying cash as I had enough for the bill but not for a tip. So in recap, 2nd time in a row we have gotten both terrible and very slow service and the food is average at best and overpriced compared to other Indian restaurants. We will not be returning and this is one place where I really don't get the urbanspoon rating at all.

Favourite dinner spot is also a great place to host an event!. Just had a wonderful evening at Sula with a large group (20+) starting with generous appetizers and delicious chai! The food was delicious and abundant as always, and the staff was so warm and welcoming, accommodating our rotating guests that popped in and out over the evening. I have always loved this place as one of my favourite dinner spots, and now I know they can host a great party too! My friends who had never been here before said they will definitely be back as they just found their new favourite Indian restaurant ;) Thanks again to the staff for a great night!!

When you are the first table to have it's order taken and still have to wait over 30 minutes for the food to arrive, you start with a bad impression. The dishes are tailored for blend palettes. Spicy levels are white people standard. If you are looking for a mellowed version of Indian food, you've hit the jackpot. For those of us who are used to the real deal, stay away! The price is high for the amount of food and everything is overpriced. Won't be going back.

Delicious Indian food & fantastic staff. This restaurant has the best Indian Food in town. I've been eating at this restaurant since it opened. Great staff, excellent service, I don't even think twice of going elsewhere if I'm in the mood for Indian Food. I was just there last night with some friends. Great atmosphere & it seems every time I go there, the food taste better and better each time. Truly a great place!!!

Poor Experience for Party of 16. My friend threw her birthday party at Sula last weekend. She wanted to introduce her friends to Sula, where she dined frequently. She always said nice things about the service and the food, until now. She had confirmed and finalized details of her party days in advance. Upon arrival, we were not offered the drink menu. Rather, we had to ask for service from whoever was free. We were missing 2 seats and place settings. We had to ask at least 4 times before we finally got it. It was after 30 minutes from arrival that someone finally took our drink orders. We had no dedicated server, no one greeted us at our table. No one checked on us to see if we wanted to order more drinks. All of our food was pre-ordered a couple days in advance and it was only multiples of 5 dishes. They knew we were a large party of 16. So why were there no servers checking up on us other than bringing the pre-ordered food to our table? Our party host paid for all the food. So that was simple. However, when it came to our beverage bills, each of us had to tell the server what we had ordered before she went to calculate each person's separate bill. To top it all off, the ice cream cake had melted when we clearly stated it was ice cream and it had to go in the freezer. No idea what happened there (apparenlty the freezer was full). Nonetheless, a birthday ruined and 16 unhappy guests, about 13 were new to Sula and are likely to tell everyone about this disaster. Disappointed.

Great food at Sula Indian Restaurant. Food and service was great! would recommend this place for all Indian food lovers!

Delicious food and excellent service. Friendly and courteous. Love that they deliver and love that they are knowledgable about gluten free items!!!

Delightful!!!. I live at Palki on Commerical Drive!<br/>This is by far the best traditional Indian cuisine in Vancouver. The food is very fresh and the spices are delicately blended to create a stimulating culinary experience. The room is warm with gentle music and soft lighting. The food and service are unparalleled.<br/><br/>Tisha C<br/>Vancouver, BC

Wonderful Food. I took some friends out for dinner on Saturday based on the reviews I had seen about this restaurant. We were not disappointed!! Great, tasty food was wonderfully presented, the grilled platter entree was delightful, the naan delicious, the butter chicken superb, the coconut chicken tender and fragrant and the lamb vindaloo delectable! We finished this off with kulfi, mango ice-cream and goolab jamun. The staff was attentive, engaging and very helpful. Do yourself a favour and visit this restaurant. I will definitely return and recommend Palki Indian Restaurant all my friends.

Delicious Every Time.. This review is long overdue. <br/><br/>Let me just say that we LOVE this restaurant on the Drive. The food is authentic and delicious, the service is outstanding and the prices are just right. We are so lucky that this place is right around the corner from where we live! We are definitely among the "regulars". <br/><br/>Our favourite dishes are the butter chicken, veggie korma and the mixed grill platter. The naan bread is always fresh and the chai (tea) is always brewed perfectly.<br/><br/>The owners are so friendly and gracious. We have truly enjoyed speaking to them about travels to India, Indian culture and adapting to living under the constant rain cloud hovering above Vancouver.<br/><br/>We have recommended this restaurant, and especially the take-out service option, to all of our family and friends. My mom even ordered from Palki on the Drive to cater her book club party in Kits. It was a hit!!<br/><br/>If you haven't checked it out yet, you need to go!

Just wonderful. Everything about Palki is wonderful. Extremely charming service, excellent food, great venue for a gathering. Highly recommend for a great evening with great Indian food. I will be going again and again!
Mark
This place was not good. I kept thinking that with my amatuer skills i could have done much better. I actually found a chunk of dry unmixed spices in one of the dishes. The naan was pretty good but I will never go back.

Amazing Service and the food is just as great!. I received the best service I have had in a long time when I visited this restaurant last night. The waiter was extremely polite, knowledgeable and patient when answering my various questions. It is clear that the staff at this restaurant take great pride in the service and food that they offer.<br/><br/>Now, on to the food - delicious!!! Very reasonably priced, and great quality. Word to the wise - 'medium-hot spice' is really hot!!.. As far as Western cuisine is concerned - I am all over extra-hot wings, etc... If your regular diet consists of chicken and potatoes, trust me, go with medium heat... However, if you chance it and go one notch too spicy, they will take it back and add some magical cooling agent and you will be alright.<br/><br/>All-in-all, a great experience, and I will certainly be returning again soon :)

Nice Indian Place. We go to Sula for lunch and find the food and service to be quite good. The lunch service is nice and the staff are all attentive and pleasant.<br/><br/>The food is fresh and topped up. They have great tasting Veggie Curries, the Butter Chicken and Beef Curry are also tasty. The servers are attentive and they make sure you have a basket of warm naan bread to accompany the meal.<br/><br/>Great value. Try it for dinner!!
ForTheLoveofFood
2 families of 4 dined here a few weeks ago and we really liked the food! The kids had the butter chicken and we had to order more! I had lamb vindaloo and my husband had chicken masala. Good naan to accompany our meals and plenty of rice. We will be back again!

Sula is THE BEST EVER. To say that we've been to many indian restaurants in Vancouver is somewhat of an understatement, and Sula is ABSOLUTELY the best one we've ever been to. All the food is amazing (everything we've ordered over our numerous visits has been exceptional, though the kofta dil bahar is our favourite!), and the service is unparalleled. Honestly, we've never had better service anywhere- the staff are super friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. <br/>Sula= amazing!

Great Date Night!. Overall positive experience (which can be rare in Vancouver!) - amazing service, food, wine and reasonable prices. Nice decoration/layout as well. We had pakoras and roti, and shared two mains (curry chicken and a veggie dish) with rice. Oh and a bottle of wine! Definitely full by the end of the night! The server was great and you could tell he really loved working there and was passionate about Indian cuisine. The food was delicious and I recommend incorporating a walk afterwards as you won't be able to stop eating!

Terrible Service. This restaurant is the worse. The staff are no where close to what you guys say they are. FYI for everyone that doesnt know how indian food is cooked. These type of restaurants store cooked food in the freezer for weeks and microwave it when you order it. I am indian and i have seen teh kitchen myself. This place should be a garbage dump

Had a dinner for 2 today. The place looked really nice and modern, definitely gave me a surprise ! We had the lamb pasnda and butter chicken, both were delicious ! The cilantro and onion naan was okay nothing too special. I'll definitely be coming back again.
Vee J
A complete disappointment. Do not order the Tandori Prawns as 1) they are not prawns and 2) they were not marinated in the typical Tandori spices. What we received were gooey under cooked shrimp. All this and we paid almost $20! The nan was great.
CuriosityKilledTheCat
WOWOW!. The service here was outstanding, our waiter was so friendly and didn't hurry us out by the end of the meal which was appreciated. Our water glasses never emptied and the restaurant had all of the little touches that really matter to the more experienced diner. The plates were warm, the water wasn't overly chilled, the staff was knowledgeable and wouldn't let one order too much bread and rice, the food came out with candles underneath to keep the curries warm but not HOT, the option to set a personal spice level on each dish was great! The final touch the the evening though was the mango, cardamom, pistachio almond ice cream. That was such a delicious, sexy dessert. I suggest you go and don't forget the ice cream! :D

Divine Indian on the Drive. Just finished a big meal with a large group of friends at Palki Indian Restaurant and we all left with nothing but smiles & great things to say.<br/><br/>I had the Chicken Tikka Masala, at a heat rating of 4/5 - a heat scale that can be applied to any of their dishes - and the heat was exactly what I was imagining. Nice & spicy, which had me sweating a little bit, but nothing uncomfortable. Portion size was perfect, and the entree came set up with a small candle underneath the dish to keep it warm as you dole it out to your plate with rice, naan etc. The Raita was delicious too. A friend & I also split the vegetable samosas which were tasty. I've eaten at a lot of Indian places all over Canada, and this one sits near the top.<br/><br/>The decor & vibe of the place is nice too, and the drink specials for each night of the week looked ideal. I don't live far, and I feel like my next visit won't be long from now

Vaneat Passes....fail. Came in, I was expectin' a great meal and service (being it just opened after being suddenly out for 15 minutes). <br/><br/>Sat down anywhere I wanted, cool I thought. Over to my right was a group of hipsters ordering as we sit.<br/><br/>Hand over my passes as I casually glance around the ambiance of the restaurant, "Looks good."<br/><br/>Roughly 20 minute goes by before the first plate comes (samosas and the lamb). The samosas, small albeit, were fresh and crispy. Now the lamb, I'm pretty sure they microwaved it, or let it overcook and didn't time it properly. Either way, the abundance of spices helped masked the situation.<br/><br/>Decent still I think to myself, as I am waiting for the feast.<br/><br/>Shortly after, to my relief, comes the na'an and butter chicken. Stuporly, I glaze at the butter chicken. "Are these guys serious?" 4 pieces of chicken in a mini bowl just slightly bigger than a petri dish. I applaud the nice touch of the mini candle underneath to keep things hot, but seriously?<br/><br/>The bread was sizeable....in which I got full off that. Feeling hungry still, I stupidly have the butter chicken sauce as soup. Not bad.... but not what I expected.<br/><br/><br/>Overall, if i knew I was going to get f'ed, I would have got some lube. I commend the place on some good flavour profile, but their execution with VANEATS was the disappointment. Maybe that's why this restaurant teamed up with VANEATS..or who knows? All I know is, I won't be going to Palki nor trying new stuff at VANEATS.<br/><br/>Gym time.

Incredibly Rude. I haven't felt such a insult in any my entire life after visiting this restaurant.<br/>I went for a dinner with my wife & 5 year old son. At the time of making the payment, the manager/owner of the restaurant said "next time please make sure that you bill is atleast $$ otherwise as we are busy and there is cost of everything and we cannot make money if we have guests like you.

BIRYANI!!. Great Service. I would go back here just for the service. Food wise something seemed to be a miss. The Biryani was off but the lunch combo thing was really good value for money.<br/><br/>I don't know if us being there for lunch made a difference.

Great place for lunch meetings. Have been going to Palki for a couple of months now fairly regularly for business meetings and it's been great. Really have great, friendly service and I'm always happy to treat there as it's reasonable and yummy.

Very bad. Came here for dinner with my friend . We were seated and it took a while before the server came over to us. We ordered a couple of drinks and the dinner. Our server brings us our drinks and seriously within 5 minutes we get our dinners. Whoa! What's that all about? Is everything sitting under heat lamps or in warming ovens or microwave? WTF? Well, the lamb was okay but pretty much everything else sucked! The rice was mushy and cold. The service was almost non-existent, server pretty much came back when we were done, no quality check or anything. Won't be seeing me back in this place!

Cut Above The Rest. A new favourite of ours. We will eat here often. Really great food at a good price.<br/><br/>Not greasy, just tasty and delicious.<br/><br/>Lovely, lovely people too.

A Great Representation of the Indian Food Vancouver has to offer. I have been to this location of Palki on commercial drive quite a few times now and each time I go back I am always impressed by the quality of service, and how amazing the food is. Having friends who recently came to visit from Toronto who heard Vancouver is the place for Indian food I immediately thought of Palki. They were so pleased with their dinner, exceeded their expectations! I always try at least one new dish when I'm here and I love the care they take to make sure your dinner is served hot with the little tea lights. The environment is also very nice - calming, trendy and a perfect compliment to your dining experience.

DELICIOUS!!. My mom and I went to Palki for dinner tonight and the food was amazing! We both ordered the Prawn Goan Curry dish and we were blown away! Both agreed that it was the best Indian food we've ever had! We had basmati rice and Tandoori Naan to go with it. I can't wait to go back!

Butter Chicken!!!!!!!!. BEST BUTTER CHICKEN EVER!!!!!!!<br/><br/>Amazing dish served sizzling in a bowl hovering over a candle! My other half and I come regularly now that we have found the secret!!! GO TO PALKI! Seriously the best butter chicken! YUM! :)

Gorgeous!. I am happy to have discovered this restaurant. After reading reviews here, gave it a try and its some of the best Indian food i have had in Vancouver. Beautiful rich decor and low lighting, exceptional service are some of the many good things about this place.

Excellent service -- great food. Ordered delivery from Palki. The person who answered the phone (I believe it was the manager) said the food would take an hour to get delivered, as their delivery drivers were super busy that night. <br/><br/>When I said that it was a bit long and that I'd order from them some other time, he then said he could deliver it himself in 45 minutes. Well, 47 minutes later the food arrived, and it was delicious! <br/><br/>In fact, we ordered all of our dishes without any dairy products. When we were pretty certain that the Aloo Saag had cream in it, we called the restaurant to ask. The manager spoke to the chef, who assured us that there was no cream in the dish. We weren't convinced by this, so he offered to drive over another dish -- one which he would ensure had no dairy. <br/><br/>Within 10-15 minutes the manager was at our door with a new version of the Aloo Saag. We showed him the previous Aloo Saag, and, without batting an eye, he said that yes, it had cream in it. He was extremely apologetic. I was just glad it wasn't one of those times where the restaurant "promises" to give you a free dish the next time you order, only to refuse to do so when you actually call it in. <br/><br/>This was, by far, the best food delivery experience I've ever had.

Delish Fare and Surprisingly Impressive Ambiance/Service. Bkground: Strolling the Drive. We eat Indian often - probably 3-4 times a month, often in the Punjabi Market area. <br/><br/>Interior and Ambiance: I'd like to actually make a point about the exterior: it's not nec. memorable. We almost walked by it without notice. Expecting another Joint-on-the-Drive, we were surprised by the serene and upscale interior. It's more of a dining experience than, say, an eating one. More sophisticated than to which we're accustomed. Suddenly lunch with my mister felt more like a date. <br/><br/>Service: Great. Attentive, friendly. Knowledgeable, and offered recommendations.<br/><br/>Pricing: Par for course in an Indian restaurant. <br/><br/>Food: Actually quite good. Decent portions. Had a better selection of booze than most Indian restaurants we frequent in the 'burbs. <br/><br/>Conclusion: A pleasurable dining experience, built around good fare and better ambiance and serving. Very blase exterior.

Delicious with Great Atmosphere!. I went to Palki with friends who already love it and I'll certainly be going back! I loved the veggie pakora, butter chicken and tender lamb in garlic cream sauce, all served in heated dishes. The excellent variety of delicous breads for dipping really won me over, but the best part of the whole meal was the sweet dumpling dessert. I love the atmosphere, the service was great and the big, thick wood table and booth seating made for a great atmosphere!

You should go!. Palki is SO tasty. My favourite dish is the Prawn Goan Curry. You should try it! The lunch buffet is also very good and such a good deal. This is definitely one of my favourite restaurants on the drive and in Vancouver.

A Lunch Favourite. Great All You Can Eat Lunch Buffet. Food and service is exceptional. We have lunch here every week, it's so good.

Super tasty. Good portions. Yummy sauces.

Rude staff and bad food. I ordered a take out from this restaurant and they missed an item (which I realized after reaching back home) but charged money for it. And when I called them about it and went back to the restaurant the lady there was very rude and wasn't even apologetic.<br/><br/>This really speaks to how they treat their customers. And on top of it when I had the food it wasn't good and very greasy (and I am an east Indian).<br/><br/>Overall very bad experience and I am not eating at Palki again or ordering food from there.
Food4elephants
Delicious!. They have a great lunch AYCE special. I believe it's $9.95! The place is definitely not as busy as it should be. The food, service and ambiance is great. People need to go here.

Impressive. We are originally from Edmonton our daughter took us to this restaurant for dinner when we visited Vancouver. Its on a busy street kind of hidden but very nice looking restaurant. <br/><br/>We were'nt expecting a lot as indian restaurants in vancouver is altered to suit canadian customers. But we were surprised when our food arrived the lamb was perfectly spiced and paratha(indian bread) was perfectly flaked. The service was quick and friendly. Servers would appear to refill the water as soon as our glasses were empty, dint bother us too much unlike other restaurants. It was my daughters birthday the waiter overheard us and brought her guleb jamon (Indian dessert) with a candle.<br/><br/>i would recommend spinach and cheese dish and lamb, its hard to find good indian curried lamb. <br/><br/>the table beside us had 2 kids and were noisy. but doesnt apply.<br/><br/>we would return when we go back to Vancouver

I have been to Palkis twice, both meals were really delicious and the service was exceptional. I have reccomended this restaurant to friends and will certainly be back.

As bad as it gets. My mother-in-law was born near Simla in Uttar Pradesh, so my husband knows Indian food. I'm a fan, too. Thus, I was delighted when Palki opened in my neighbourhood of 32 years. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend it after last evening's fiasco and the best Indian I've ever eaten will remain a tie between nanaji and the UK. We ordered only two items, plus a naan. The Goan curried prawns were tasteless and inexcusably overcooked without the faintest hint of coconut. Rather, we were the victims of the ubiquitous ' universal sloppy sauce' often prepared in big batches from cheap ingredients and than dumped over a variety of 'specialties.' My husband wanted vegetables and ordered the medley cooked in the tandoor. Big mistake that I tried to talk him out of. Too bad. The result was inedible. Scorched and unidentifiable vegetables seemed to have been either pickled or drowned in vinegar before being burned in the oven. The naan, which should indeed, be a little puffily crisped and colourful, was burned on one side. The service was friendly, if a bit hopeless. We won't return and will have to continue our search for good Indian on the east side of town.

We love Palki!. My boyfriend and I go there all the time, and have never, ever been disappointed. Great food, wonderfully friendly people - there is nothing negative about this place. I would happily recommend it to anyone, and I hope that Palki continues to prosper on Commercial Drive (which I'm sure it will, because its always pretty full any time we go in).
Anthony M
Delicious and reasonable. I was very impressed by Palki, their menu selection appealed to all tastes, and the prices were quite reasonable, plus the vegetarian options were impressive (though not surprising considering its on Commercial lol), I would recommend it for anyone!

Awesome. The entire experience was absolutely fantastic. The service was prompt and helpful, the food was extremely tasteful and cooked to perfection. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. Prices were great.<br/>Good job you guys!! thanks for a wonderful dinner!

Welcome addition to the Drive. Palki seems to be a sister location for the excellent North Vancouver restaurant. We were excited that an Indian restaurant was moving into the spot formerly occupied by Rime and Lime. One of my pet peeves about the Drive is that each new restaurant seems to want to capitalize on the success of existing restaurants. So, we get ever more sushi bars, pizza joints and falafel stands. <br/><br/>However, novelty is not the only thing Palki has to offer. They've made great use of the large space, with comfortable, casually elegant lighting and decor. They've got a varied menu and everything we tried was perfectly spiced and delicious. The staff is welcoming; the clientele relaxed and hip (without being pretentious).<br/><br/>We'll definitely be back.

Fantastic food, great ambiance, reasonable prices. Great place 4 gorgeously prepared Indian; fresh ingredients and well balanced flavors. This place is going to be busy, go now and b one of the first to 'discover' it!

5 star for palki. Me and my gf always wished for a good indian restaurant on the commercial drive and palki is here!!! <br/><br/>Ambiance and decor is amazing. The servers are super friendly and professional at the same time. Food and presentation was close to perfection, overall it was a wonderful dining experience<br/><br/>sidenote the phone number mentioned here is incorrect. Apparently it is 604 215 1130 from their take out menu.<br/><br/>Ps loved the butterchicken.

Great Indian Restaurant. Had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. The servers were friendly, greeting customers with a smile. The food was amazing from the presentation to the taste. The cocktails were refreshing. The restaurant was also quite clean and tidy. I will for sure be going again. If you love Indian Food this is the place you should go.

Amazing Indian food. Palki Indian restaurant was amazing. I walked in, had great service and the staff was very friendly. The cooks made all the food to perfection, and the portions were quite filling. I will recomend this restaurant to anyone that loves indian food.

Hey guys! For those who keep track, Team Tastic loves Indian. This time we went to Sula Indian Restaurant on the north end of Commercial Drive. Do their curries here complement the neighbourhood well or should you stick to southern restaurants on the Drive? Read on to find out. Food: Team Tastic came here and ordered the following:  C hat Platter (veggie samosa, chicken pakora, & veggie pakora),  Butter Chicken Curry ,  Chickpea Curry , and some  Garlic Naan . The Chat Platter was a good appetizer to share because it comes with both types of pakora, which are basically little fried nuggets of potato or chicken (potato was better). Veggie samosas are just a bonus at that point. The Butter Chicken was the best curry of the night because it was extremely smooth and creamy. The Chickpea Curry didn’t land as high on the approval because I thought the chickpeas were quite large which made for a chalky feeling inside the large chickpea. These curries were extremely filling with the garlic naan as the chickpeas just fill you up to the brim in just a few spoons. The garlic naan here is a different colour from Indian Oven 's garlic naan but they're both tasty and easy to tear and soak up curry with. All in all, the butter chicken here was a home run (up on the curry level of Aroma ) and the chickpea curry is especially good for vegetarians looking to fill up.  Features: This is a large restaurant that seats about 90. There’s a split in the ground floor adding more depth to the restaurant in addition to all the plants and decor surrounding the premise. The washrooms are also quite spacious and classy looking.  Service: Service here is super friendly and helpful. After being told there’d be a 10 minute wait, the host led us to a couple of seats at the bar and offered to start us off with drinks there. Once we made it to our table and ordered, food took about 15 minutes to start coming out. Water service was very frequent and we got a nice goodbye from our server as we exited th

... Papri Chaat... refreshing (served cold) and flavorful; excellent balance on the variety of ingredients used in this dish, none taking center stage but altogether in perfect harmony...

One find was Palki Restaurant on Commercial Drive. Great phone service when placing the order, but when the food arrived they wanted to charge $5.00 because I'm outside the delivery area. I refused, of course, since this was a surprise charge that I was not told about on the phone. The delivery guy was gracious enough to accommodate "since I was a first time customer".  As for the food... The vegetarian samosas were tasty, but nothing special to warrant $2.50 each when you can buy the same quality at 3 for a $1.00 on Fraser Street. The butter chicken's flavours were fresh, not extremely spicy. The chicken pieces were exceptionally taste. You could tell quality chicken breasts were used. I ordered the Hari Bhari Sabzi simply for the appealing name and the chef's special sauce. It was special alright.
Next Meal
Call me stereotypical but I don’t feel like a trip to an Indian cuisine restaurant is complete without an order of the house butter chicken. The Palki rendition of this dish was, in a word, different. The curry portion was creamy but everyone agreed it wasn’t what they were expecting.

I love mangoes and fruity drinks so I started off by ordering a mango lassi. The mango lassi was my favourite part of the whole meal.
Eating With Kirby
The exterior isn't the best looking and I bet you can easily walk past it on the street without a second glance. However, once you go inside, it's a whole different story. When I walked in, I was very impressed by the interior. It was elegant, pretty, and had a romantic feel to it with their candles and flowers on the table.
Mcintosh_missy
I also really enjoyed their Naan bread and found out they cook it in-house in a tandoor. It was extremely fresh, chewy, yet pillowy with a nice charred, slightly crispy exterior.
East Van Rules
The five of us were absolutely stuffed, some of were tipsy, and we had substantial leftovers, so we were surprised that the bill came to less then $200 including tax and tip. I am all about cheap delicious eats in my neighbourhood, so I'll definitely be back to Palki!

Yay!! We won a Palki Passion dining pass from VANEATSca Thanks guys!! Actually, Colleen won a dining package to this fairly new indian restaurant on commercial drive. We had a hard time finding the place simply because the name out front wasn't visible from a side angle but we found it nonetheless. Palki Indian Restaurant 1130 Commercial Drive, Vancouver BC Tel#: (604) 215-1130 Stuck with a rental car (or else I wouldn't drive here in my own car) we set out after work to the ridiculously tight parking spots of commercial drive. I swear, we saw at least 4 separate incidents where cars almost hit each other trying to park on the street. And surprise surprise the place was empty on the inside. There was a Canucks game on at the time, I assume everyone was busy at the game or at bars watching it. Colleen had made a reservation but obviously it wasn't required. I must say though, this place is very clean and well presented. It had a very upbeat mo

Another of my last minute coupon use visit – we found ourselves at Palki on Commercial. It wasn’t a very busy restaurant on a Monday and we nearly missed where it’s at. The interior was very different from most of Indian restaurant – it has a dark theme completed with dark wooden furnish and a bit modern-ish feel. It seemed like we were not alone as a few other tables also came to redeem their pass. Mango Lassi – 6/6 Given my very pleasant lassi experience at “East is East”, I didn’t hesitate to recommend the mango lassi to Greeny. It was very creamy without being overly sweet – loved it. Lamb Pasnda ($11.95) – 5/6 We order this as extra just in case there wasn’t enough food with the one pass we have. The lamb has a very strong and distinct taste – loaded with spices. Naan or rice is definitely recommended with this dish. Vegetable samosa – 4/5 Filled mainly with potato, the vegetable samosa was alright. I thought it would have been better if the skin/coat

last week, the boyfriend & i ate at palki, an indian restaurant on commercial drive. i quite enjoyed this food experience. (which in this case involved me stuffing myself then proceeding to take the leftovers home & stuff myself again. i don't eat leftovers. unless its ethiopian or otherwise amazing) palki is located where the restaurants rime and li me used to be. it doesn't stand out from the sidewalk, & i know i have walked past it a few times not knowing it was there. but inside, it is spacious, simple, & classy. it isn't overly elegant, but the decor also isn't tacky. the tables are all a dark wood, which i love, and the color scheme is simple with greys, blacks & bits of purple. we sat at a window table & enjoyed the sun streaming in while we people watched. (people-watching on the drive is always quite fun.) the boyfriend is great: waiting patiently for me to take photos, before he can eat. he also doubles as a hand model in his spare time. full liquor bar at the back of the res

Palki Indian Restaurant is located at 1130 Commercial Drive. The restaurant's philosophy is that the customer comes first. Always. And they credit their philosophy for their success. These are some of the tasty items available on their menu: Vegetable Samosa, so crispy on the outside and the inside is filled with Indian spices. Lamb Barrah Kebob , a tender rack of tandoori lamb. Chicken Tikka , chicken marinated in special spices, then grilled on the tandoor. Tandoori Prawn , jumbo prawn marinated in Indian spices and finally Murg Malai Tikka , tender chicken marinated in sour cream and fresh spices. I found the package to be good for two people. It's a lot of food. At least it's a good foundation to start with. Follo

Having enjoyed the Verace Amore package at Verace Pizzeria , I got ready for yet another VANEATS dining adventure at Palki Indian Restaurant. The restaurant is located on Commercial Drive near Venables, so it's a bit of a drive for a Richmondite like me. I was really surprised at how clean and modern the interior was. The decor was quite trendy and the tableware was sparkly clean. (Our plates were still hot from the dishwasher!) The place was filled with the typical aroma of Indian cooking, but I was glad the smell didn't cling to my hair or clothes. I always order mango lassi whenever I eat Indian, so I considered breaking out of my usual routine because I was getting a little bored. But I'm so glad I didn't! This mango lassi ($3) was very special indeed. Apart from creamy yogurt and tropical mango, there was a magic ingredient: ground cardamom with its signature fragrance. The yogurt was actually slightly salty, so it was a delicious blend of flavours. The $14 dining pass includes 7

The servers were very friendly and answered any curious questions we had about the dishes. Abbytizer intends to return to Palki when she craves Indian food. When redeeming your package at the restaurant you can choose the degree of heat, ranging from very mild, to very spicy.

I'll have to be perfectly honest, despite being a long-time Surrey resident, I have had very little experience with South Asian food. Unlike some folks out there, I can appreciate good food from a wide range of backgrounds, and this proved to be no different. Overview It wasn't long ago that I thought double dating was lame and meant for old people…but here I am in my mid 20's on a double date. On the plus side, because there were four of us, we were led to the "VIP area" in the back of the restaurant. They had a heavy-looking low-rise table, comfy sofas with lots of pillows, and plants surrounding the area. I felt pampered. I really appreciate restaurants that make dining a special experience. Sure good food is the most important thing, but when you show your customers that you want them to have a good time and an unique experience, they will thank you for it. ( Joyce : This was a complimentary dinner so that could be why we were seated in that area. However, I'm sure you can reques

Last week, the manager of Palki Indian Restaurant on Commercial Drive invited us to their restaurant to try some of their dishes. The front of the restaurant is a bit dark, and may be a bit hard to notice (they are planning to update the front facade though). The interior looks really good, maybe because they have a nice purple colour on the walls, similar to our MePlusFood purple. Anyways, upon entering, we were quickly greeted by our server. Our friend was running a little bit late, so we browsed through the menu, and chatted with our very knowledgable server. He offered us some Mango Lasii , which is a house-made yogurt drink. It was delicious, and definitely recommend ordering it. It was a thinner yogurt, with mango syrup mixed in. It was very refreshing, and will help with the very flavourful and spicy food. We were also given some Papadum to start. It was very crisp, and had a lot of spices mixed in. Very flavourful as well. For our meal, we had a couple of things that we w

Disclaimer: The restaurant asked me to come and try their food, so everything was complimentary, but I did tip. Palki Indian Restaurant' s manager asked me to come in to try out their food. Normally, I don't get this kind of direct email from the restaurants, it's usually through various PR companies representing them, but this one caught my attention more simply because of one reason. It was Indian food. When was the last time you've ever seen me post about Indian food? I think I only have one post, and it was about Vij's . It's not to say that I don't like Indian food, I just don't know much about it and therefore am not too comfortable with it. However, I took this opportunity to catch up with Kelsi and also have some (hopefully) good food! Palki Indian Restaurant on Commercial Drive actually occupies what used to be Lime Japanese Restaurant . Darn, that was on my wishlist. The black brick exterior is pretty bland and isn't very welcoming, but they have plans to do some renovations
