Review The Flying Pig Yaletown - Vancouver

Sara Mencia
Nice restaurant, it has a nice heated patio. Good customer service and decent prices. I went for the happy hour, it was worthy. Salmon cakes and sprout Brussels were very tasty đź‘… Four stars because the patio view can be better.

We we were on the wait list for a table of 8, they called and said there was a cancelation, and we were glad to take the spot. So many great starter dishes. Everyone enjoyed their meals, staff was efficient and really nice. Drinks were cold and kept coming ;). Overall, we highly recommend this place. Must try.

Nice restaurant in Yaletown. A little late on this review but we really enjoyed our dinner and drinks. It’s spacious, has great ambience and excellent service. Ordered the bone marrow and mushroom pasta and both were delicious! A bit too many nuts in the pasta but still so good! Dessert was excellent as well! Highly recommend for a nice dinner out in Yaletown!

Did Happy Hour before work and it was great. Service was good and the food was excellent. The Paella spices were perfect. We ordered some deals and off the main menu. Delicious your chef know their tastes and flavours.

Came here for lunch on a weekday, and it got busy very quickly. Overall nice atmosphere, great service and fresh food. We had the grab cakes, paella and trout. All recommended.

Reserved for dinner with 3 friends, requested ahead of time to be seated in a quieter area but we were basically put right in the middle of the room. They were really nice in accommodating us though and shifted us over. The jungle juice was refreshing and not overly sweet. The food was decent, but took forever to arrive, which I don’t mind but one of my friends was quite hungry. The bone marrow although super tasty is not a shareable plate, with only 2 pieces of bread. My mushroom pappardelle was clumped, with very little seasonal vegetables. Honestly, seems like a great place to come to eat and drink, but the ambiance is quite loud and make sure to put your order early!

I made a reservation online and got a table with my husband by the window. Our waiter took quite some time to take our orders and completely forgot to drop off napkins and cutlery for us. There was this lovely waitress who was constantly picking his slack and kept checking in on us. He also forgot to put in two sides: lobster risotto and our brussel sprouts. He seemed clueless at times and it was a bit frustrating dealing with him. It was the same waitress who noticed we were missing dishes. She was our saving grace for the night (all the stars are going to her). The lobster risotto was terrible, I wanted to send it back but ended up getting a takeout box but it was tasteless and bland. It tasted like the kitchen gave zero effort into making it. Everything else was sublime, I mainly liked the apps more than the mains. The beef tartare and the bone marrow were my favs. The caesar was also very delicious and I absolutely loved the garnish that came along with it!

I really enjoyed my lunch at this cozy little place in beautiful Yaletown, Vancouver today! They have a great selection on their menu and their lunch prices are reasonable. What really stood out for me was their warm, attentive and professional service. From the beginning to the end. The host made us feel very welcome and our server took very good care of us the whole time. Due to the winter wonderland feel and all the snow I felt I need to start things off with a nice cup of coffee. I loved the coffee. It was JJ Bean and piping hot and served in a sparkling cup.....exactly the way I like it. We had the Pulled Pork Sandwich and the Chicken cutlets. I loved the pulled pork, juicy and well seasoned with a nice crisp fresh ceasar salad and a slice of gherkin with the meal which was a nice touch. I love gherkins! I also tried the Chicken cutlet which was beautifully cooked. Tender with the batter seasoned just on point and the mash was a perfect pairing. "I MEAN WHO DOESN'T LIKE GREAT MASH?!" Next time I'm going for the muscles! ;)

I’ve surprisingly never been to The Flying Pig even though they have two other locations (Gastown and Olympic Village). Finally made it out for happy hour in Yaletown!. A few specials they had that evening. We dropped in on an early Thursday evening (around 5:00pm). People were already taking advantage of happy hour which is weekdays (3:00pm to 6:00pm) and weekends (4:00pm to 6:00pm).

First time here with three friends and was seated at the patio as it’s very hot and noisy inside. Our waiter was very nice as he explained the menu to us and gave some recommendations and their bestseller. The way he explained the menu is enticing so we decided to order his suggestions. The foods were very delicious and flavourful. We were surprised and happy about the big serving size of the cake we ordered for dessert. Very pricey but worth it.

Nice and small restaurant. Very good atmosphere and quality food. But only disadvantages for large group, is that they don’t take reservation before hand. So it is advisable to reach early and enjoy the place.

Tasty tapas & great service. <br/><br/>Great selection of drinks & good food. Whether you are here for a good solid meal or eats with drinks. <br/><br/>My recommendation- grab a group to try their various appetisers. Get a good tasting of what’s on offer!<br/><br/>

The Flying Pig Restaurants is a Canadian local restaurant. It has 3 locations in the lower mainland, includes Gastown, Yaletown and Olympic Village.  I went to the Flying Pig only once with my classmates on the weekdays. Although it was a weekday, the restaurant was so busy. I am strongly suggested to make a reservation before you go.<br/><br/>Environment:  <br/><br/>The restaurant is divided into two parts. People can eat inside or they can eat at the patio. Since lots of people were inside the restaurant, we decided to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine.<br/><br/>Service:<br/><br/>The servers in this restaurant were all nice and friendly. After we sat down, the server came to our table fast and took drink orders from us. The drinks came and refilled very fast. Our table server was also helpful. When we couldn’t decide what to order from the menu, he introduced us the items from the menu and gave us a great idea to order the food.<br/><br/>Food/Prices : <br/><br/>The food on the menu is all in Canadian Style and fancy. The menu breakdown has a wide range of items with a small portion pork selection. The price of the food is a little bit expensive. The starters prices are all around $11. The main meals are around $27 – $30. Because we’ve been during the HAPPY HOURS (Available every day between 3pm & 6pm Monday to Friday; 4pm & 6pm weekends at all locations), all the starters were half prices. We didn’t order any food from Main Section. We had couple starters to share. The food came fast and fresh. The taste of the food was great.<br/><br/>In summary, it was a great experience having dinner at The Flying Pig Restaurant. I would like to come back to the restaurant again in the future. In the end, I highly recommend going there during the HAPPY HOURS. It was a great deal for the starters.

The Flying Pig has to be one of my favourite spots to grab a bite with friends. It's perfectly situated in the heart of Gastown and always has a constant flow of people. It has such an energetic vibe and social ambiance. Their food is very comforting and flavourful. I definitely recommend the Blackened Lois Lake steelhead trout salad! I order it most of the time. The presentation is always wonderful and so are the portions. I highly propose you give it a try!!
Nuinui The Cat
We ordered too much food, but everything tastes so good. You can tell the ingredients were really fresh and high quality. The beef and fish were made just right.

Last month when my friends came to visit me, we decided to try this most popular spot in downtown Vancouver. The place is nice looking, inviting, community tables, some high tops, good amount of bar seating and great window seats to people watch.<br/><br/>As for our main course, we got the Red Wine Braised Beef Short Rib and the Blackened Steelhead Trout. Both were very good and we switched entrees again and again so we could get a little of each. For the appetizers, we ordered the Beet & Bresaola Salad and Classic Poutine. Both were nice with beer and wine too.<br/><br/>Overall, we had a wonderful meal, the service is great with the staff being friendly, knowledgeable about the food, quick on getting you drinks and bringing out your food and clearing up. We were enjoying in this restaurant and must visit it again.

Had brunch here bright and early- in fact we were the first ones in, so we got a prime table right by the window. Ambience is great, very open and clean with lots of wood and brick, creating for a very pleasant visual experience. (The only kinda weird thing is that the next couple to come into the big empty restaurant they placed at the table right beside us). The food was great, wonderful presentation, generous portions and amazing flavours. The Flying Pig delivered a classic brunch that I would highly recommend.
The Guys Dine Out
Overall very disappointing. I had been hoping to try The Flying Pig for years but now wish I had just skipped it. The atmosphere is great, the drinks were fine and the service is also good, too bad the food isn't. I ordered the Veal Piccata with a parmesan risotto...not a difficult dish but I do like a good piccata. Presentation was okay except for this strange abundance of oil over the whole dish. The flavours were bland and really all around tasteless, which isn't what you are looking for in a piccata, and then again there is this pool of oil that is left over on your plate when you are done...I don't get it. We ordered onion rings for the table which were good and the giant mac and cheese which was also not bad. I finished with the bread pudding, which was also not very good, and between the 4 of us it didn't get finished...not a lot of enthusiasm to eat it. Left full but very unsatisfied, if that makes any sense. Overall a definite pass on this one in the future. .

The Flying Pig is decently close to my office, so more often than not, I’ll be here for lunch at least once every couple months. I usually come here for their Happy Hour, but recently I’ve been coming more and more for their lunch (more specifically for their Steak Sandwich!). Crispy brussels sprouts – lemon, Parmesan and capers ($7)

Angie ordered a Chopped House Salad. It came in a big plate with free range chicken, tomatoes, cucumber, eggs, avocado, bacon and iceberg lettuce. She asked for a vinaigrette dressing instead of the ranch or blue cheese dressing on the menu. Angie also ordered a Mimosa to go with a her salad. Polly, Whitney and I shared two entrees and a side dish.

There before a concert figured that maybe the BBQ might be good. Wrong- Beer was OK and service was sub-par. I make better BBQ at home. Way cheaper as well this place is taking advantage of an American craze. As bad as the Hog Shack in Richmond

Went here after hearing everyone talk about it. Love the atmosphere and service was exceptional. Got our food quickly and the waitress was friendly. We tried the macaroni for an appie and neither of us really enjoyed it so we left most of it which sucked. Loved my halibut, however. She had gnocchi and it was incredibly cheesy and heavy, but still tasty. We gave the rest to a hungry guy on the street and he was stoked. <br/><br/>We may have just ordered too many heavy, buttery foods, but overall it was still pretty good. i think the food could be better 3/5 but service 4.5/5

Originally my friend and I were going to try Twisted Fork for brunch but we were quite turned off by the one hour wait so we headed towards Yaletown in search of another brunch option. We passed by The Flying Pig and surprisingly there was no line up! This was around 1pm. They have three locations now (Yaletown, Gastown, Mount Pleasant) so maybe their customer base is more dispersed now?

On a Saturday night we came just as Appy Hour was ending and managed to get 2 seats at the bar right away. The restaurant empties pretty quickly after 6:00 just in time for a quieter wave of regular diners! Our drink orders came promptly and our food order taken cheerfully by the serving staff. We shared the rocket and beetroot salad, it was delicious! My veal piccata was very good with maybe just a titch too much lemon for my taste. My dad's seafood tagliatelle had a lovely flavor as well. All in all an excellent meal with very good service! One of my faves in Yaletown.<br/>

The portions are big, the food tastes fine and the dishes are really cheap for being in yaletown. There are plenty of other yummier options to choose from downtown but not for this price point. A good go-to place when you're in the neighbourhood and just want a quick bite

This review of The Flying Pig is based on my brunch experience.<br/><br/>Did I come with a high expectation? In a way with all a 4 Star and over 500+ reviews. But sadly the brunch experience was just OK. <br/><br/>I do love the fact that I can make a reservation as it is always a frustrating experience to wait for more than 30 minute for a table especially you only in town for the Weekend.<br/><br/>Menu looked interesting and promising. But the 3 items we shared did not really impressed me enough for a repeat visit or as must visit.<br/><br/>BC Salmon Sampler ($10.50)<br/>Braised Beef Short Rib with Jumbo Macaroni ($14.50) - meh, really underseasoned and ribs so dry<br/>Sausage Harsh Brown ($14) Special of the Day<br/><br/>Drinks: Glory Day/Mimosa/Latte<br/><br/>The best item was the complimentary banana bread!

This is the 4th or 5th time I have been to the flying pig and have never been disappointed. I've had the veal, the pork rack and the coho salmon and all dishes have been wonderful. You can tell that they take a lot of pride in food preparation done the right way and it totally pays off. We went on valentine's day and were very satisfied. Classy music not too loud or too cheesy, quick service and of course the food, dynamite. Tried desert for the first time and the banana bread pudding was heavenly. Would highly recommend picking up takeaway pulled pork poutine and banana bread pudding for some comfort food. Will be back again and again, thank you for caring about food!!!!

Went to the flying pig last night in Yaletown. I ordered the braised red wine beef short ribs. I've been drooling over the pictures of this on here for months. It came with a choice of bone marrow or vegetables and aged cheddar white mash potatoes, I of course went for the bone marrow because it's one of my favourite things. Everything was good, beef was tender, although I thought it tasted a little on the dry side. It wasn't as flavourful as I thought it would be. Bone marrow and aged white cheddar mash was delicious. Service was good.

Great food and atmosphere on NYE. The Mt. Lehman chicken was delicious and served in a large portion. The drinks from the cocktail menu were phenomenal, especially in comparison to the public houses we went to after dinner. Great job by the bartender.

Went for lunch with wife expecting a great lunch should have read these reviews first and just gone to the Keg. Waiter brought wrong food and did not seem to give a S***t I ordered lunch special Roast chicken, kale pasta..3 small pieces of chicken, 1 piece of kale and a lot of thick undercooked noodles. Yes too many good places to go not here. Overpriced, mediocre food and staff.

Out of all it's locations around Vancouver, this one is my favorite. I find the ambience to be much more lively here, and the people that come in are friendlier. Drinks are great and the place is upscale, so expect to spend more than your average dime here. <br/><br/>Not to miss are the poutine and short ribs.
Soheyl
Went there for brunch with a group of friends. Mediocre food, OK ambiance, OK service. Generally not a bad place, but nothing to write home about. There are so many better choices in the area.

The Flying Pig was a great choice for brunch! It was K’s first time and he wasn’t at all upset about waking up early. :P The food was decent, the service was friendly, and the ambiance was charmin- especially being in the heart of Yaletown. It’s a comfortable spot for social gatherings with your family and friends, which is relaxed but still special. Even though the price range is on the higher end, I think it’s worth the splurge.<br/><br/>Food: 3.5/5 | Service: 4/5 | Value: 3/5 | Ambiance: 4.5/5

Very well done pub food. Paid a second visit the weekend after again for brunch. <br/><br/>Pulled pork 4 cheese baked rigatoni was simply amazing - the combination of the slightly-roasted cheese and that hint of the spicy tomato sauce give the taste buds a good ride.<br/><br/>Braised beef short rib jumbo macaroni was well immersed in its mushroom cream gravy sauce. Beef was tell braised and it felt tender.<br/><br/>Parmesan breaded chicken cutlet is as how you would expect it to be - but a crispy crust is guaranteed, while the chicken cutlet inside was moist and juicy to the right degree. <br/><br/>Sidenote: The size of the breakfast is sufficient, but I'd suggest going for the 'full' lunch if you're hungry. Have to note that the coffee and tea can extremely quickly - within a minute!

I can see why this place is the talk of the town. By the time we arrived, there were already loads of people lining up outside. We thought of going somewhere else, but the crowds also made us kind of curious to check out what this place was all about.  <br/><br/>The place is great for comfort food, albeit a bit overpriced. We had the pulled pork and lobster prawn risotto. A total delight. Ambience is casual, friendly and loud. Highly recommended, given that you get there on time.

Not a fan. The portions are pretty small and the prices are high. There is nothing great about the food either. Service was okay but the manager was a complete creep.

Went there with friends the other night. I ordered Halibut dish and pulled pork poutine and I was so glad. Very livery and stylish, and good for adults.

The food tasted so bad :( so disappointing. I like the atmosphere but the food is just not great. I really cannot find 140 words to write about this place. It is just not great and pricy for what I am getting. $$$

To celebrate our TGIF J and I went to the Flying Pig in Yaletown. Since my friend works here I heard about this place a lot, and finally we made it. When we arrived there were people lining up but the wait time wasn't too bad. After a few minutes, we got seated but since after that everything was way too slow.

Amazing food, great vibe, and excellent service! I have never felt so passionate about Brussels sprouts. You'll know why when you try them. Amazing!!
MS.CHUBBS
Service here was fast and pleasant, professional yet laid back making you feel very welcomed and relaxed despite it being in the prestigious dining strip of Yaletown. Maybe part of the atmosphere has to do with their other locations such as Gastown, that they can’t be too far off. Overall, Fatboy, our foodbabies and I were well beyond satisfied.
DanoRama
Disappointing and uninspiring. While the service here was excellent, pasta I had lacked any depth of flavour and was straight up boring. The only flavour in my dish was salt and the dish had a weird texture profile as a result of the stringy beef. I would avoid this chain. I should have known better.
Gian
I've been here twice and I absolutely love their creamed corn & pulled pork poutine; I can't get enough of it! Both are under the appetizer menu with a total of only $15+. I highly recommend this to anyone who is a lover of corn and poutine. :')
Janetderasp
Great food, great service. The Haida Gwaii halibut was perfect with a risotto and fresh vegetables. The crispy Brussels sprouts were delicious. Two of us shared a dessert that could easily have served four! The staff were pleasant and competent. All in all a great dining experienc.
Navid
They serve their steak just with fries, no vegtable no mashed potato , nothing ...<br/>Although quality of food was good.
TheFrugalCouple
Finally had a chance to try this place out with my friends.  This place is located in Yaletown and as expected, it is more on the higher end of restaurants.  They had a small menu, but lots of variety....The servers were great and came around many times to refill our water =)
Stef
Like the place with caveats.<br/>I've visited here a few times with mixed feelings on each occasion. So I felt compelled to write a few words about my latest experience with my wife this instance. We arrived at Appy hour, and were told that we had to sit on the one side of the restaurant space duly designated for Appy hour, even though we preferred to sit outside the designated area. We dutifully complied in order to receive the Appy specials. It seemed a little eccentric, almost anal , the seating that is, as the other side of the place, on the other side of the bar was totally empty. The Appy specials are only available if you sit in the designated area, hence the place becomes crowded and noisy on one side of the restaurant, the other side void of patrons. <br/>My wife was hungry, she ordered the pork (chop), with pulled pork puitine. I ordered crab cakes. Crab cakes ok, outside a little overdone, too crusty, nothing special. My wife was a little disappointed with the pork, that we thought was supposed to be roasted, more like baked, It was ok but quite dry, and not really all that tasty. The accompanying spattering of roasted vegetables were way overdone, not good at all , the puitine average, and this dish was expensive. The beer was good! The service is ok, however the servers seemed a bit rushed. As I have been here before and had issues with the main courses, I recommend to stick with the appetizers and avoid the entrees to avoid the sticker shock of full meals and underwhelming quality ..

Happy hour. Great food, Great service & Great ambiance what else can you ask for in an eatery. Check this place out. The happy hour menu is great for sharing & only 5-6$, we'll be back! Gotta try the mac cheese!!!
Dreaming In Foie Gras
Came here in the afternoon for a quick snack and the service was horrible, but the food was okay. I did only try one thing so I can’t be sure about the rest of there menu. The decor is nice, casual yet well put together, Ill be back at one of their other locations to try out their happy hour!
Cherrycherries2
Disappointed. Having heard many positive comments on the flying pig, I decided to try it at last. i ordered the mussels from the special menu but it's very disappointing.
Someone
Poor service. The policy of not seating partial tables is terrible. 2 out of 3 of our group arrived early to have drinks before the third member of our party arrived. The refused to seat us. Then we are stuck waiting for seating when our last guest arrives. The 15 minute time delay for our guest arriving resulted in an hour wait. Poor serbice
Girlkid
Arrived very late. We went there last night and arrived at 1130 pm, we were greeted at the door with a smile. The service was exceptional, the food was amazing. We were not rushed or anything even after they were closed the staff was great. Would highly recommend it to anyone who wants a great dinning experience.

Amazing. I love the name of the restaurant so I tried it with my friend. The food is so great. Definitely will come back again.

The worst service we've ever had. The food at flying pig is amazing. I give it an 8 of out 10. I've been there several times and have never been disappointed by the food. Kudos to the chef! The service at the Gastown location on the other hand was beyond rude. The manager whom has apparently only been working there for a short time ruined our evening by refusing our patronage one evening when there wasn't even a wait for seating. He stereotyped us and assumed we were too intoxicated to be seated? We were all probably more sober than everyone already seated in the restaurant. We wish the flying pig the best but it's highly recommended that they hire a new manager.
Foody-vancouver
Uncooked chicken and bad manager. This place is another disappointment restaurant, had diner there we ordered chicken they served me raw chicken, when the female manager came over she said "it's normal that the chicken is red in the middle" what...!!? Are you kidding me and than she commented "we will take out of your cheque" unbelievable that was so rude and because of that attitude we will never come to eat there.<br/>They get a lot of young customers that after few wines don't notice the food, and btw there dishes has a lot of mash potatoes because it's cheap, come on get a grip and it's not because you are busy you serve raw chicken.and the kitchen is not clean at all.<br/>Will never eat there again ever.
Puffyummy
Unfortunately we got a rude waitress serving us who first said to us "there's no bread! What do u mean by bread?!" when we were wondering how come we don't get complimentary bread after sitting at the table for over 15 minutes while the other table who came in after us got them. Later on during the dinner, we felt that her attitude was not appropriate also by saying " you don't want this?" instead of " are you done with this dish?".The food is actually good but the terrible service from this waitress still ruined our first experience here:(
YEG - Canada
Great place and short ribs a must! But for cripe-sakes the place needs air conditioning and the tables next to me agreed! We were sweating our bag off even with windows and doors open!
ForTheLoveofFood
Had lunch today. Tasty steak sandwich and frites! Need to try their dinner menu
Zak Taylor
My go to place for a good meal and great service. For dinner, I usually get the Short Ribs with a side of Brussels Sprouts. Have also tried brunch and every meal has been tasty. <br/><br/>The thing that stands out is the service. The entire team goes out of their way to make you feel welcome and the fact the place is packed every night is a good indication they must be doing something right. <br/><br/>Overall, a comfortable place to have a well prepared meal that is locally sourced (most items) served by professionals that take pride in their work.

Fantastic food and great environment. I have eaten at the Flying Pig Yaletown and Gastown on several occasions and have been extremely happy with the service, atmosphere and staff. It is easily one of my favourite spots in Vancouver. The food is very flavourful and priced extremely well. Everyday between 4-6 they have apply hour which means you have a choice of numbers meals for $5-$6. The local produce and food is always fresh tasting and prepared perfectly. The dining experience is accentuated by the great vibe and upbeat music playing in the background.

Impudent!. Me and my friend were sitting at the bar. We ordered Halibut cheeks (as bar men suggested) It wasn't his fault, but when you take icy frosen fish, put it in the hot water to melt and then cook it, the effect is not good. It was RUBBER cheeks, no flavour, no taste. We also had 6 glasses of vine $10 each, but when the bill came, it became $11. I asked the guy at the bar why? He tried to proof me wrong, blushed, got angry, then said that he doesn't know why. We left 10% tips ( very generous in this situation) His face was priceless! He hardly whispered "Thanks"<br/>When we were already outside, he gave us a look that I will never forget.
Helen
Stopped by for appy hour, 4-6pm, at the Yaletown location. Great deal and great food. The seared chili rubbed skirt steak was definitely a favourite, so tender and flavourful and it came with a mountain of crispy frites. They had $4 wine and beer as well, not bad. Would definitely come back again and again. The service was great as well.

We ate at the Flying Pig in Yaletown last night. I had the veal picatta, which was pretty good. But, my dining companion had the steelhead trout, which was absolutely amazing. Get thee to the TFP and order the steelhead trout while it's still on the menu. It is dancing fork good! Wow!
Jane S
Overall, great service and food. Loved the beet and goat cheese salad. My friend ordered the Caesar salad and loved it. I wasn't too fond of the root vegetables that were served with the halibut cheeks. The dish had an odd sweetness and was missing acid. Steelhead trout was a hit.<br/><br/>Will be back!

Superific. Awesome food. Generous portions. Flavour packed. Reasonably priced and great service. Loved it!!

Girls Night!. A perfect place for girls night out! My girlfriends and I had the featured special which was excellent but my favourite part were the brussel sprouts ! they were to die for i could not stop eating them! Flying Pig has to be one of my favourite restaurants at Yaletown. Definitely a must try!
Sonia
I used to love this place and found the services was good. Last weekend, we went there and found the waitress attitude is rude. She didn’t give rats to service us at all. Seriously operator # 2897, you need to improve your services skills. You’re Not hired as a pretty blonde to do nothing.

Good food. Good service. Owner came over twice to see how we were doing. Get there early!

Bartenders extraordinaire!. So, it's Saturday night and I just stopped into the Flying Pig Yaletown to have an after work bevy. It's the first time I've been here without friends and I have to say the staff here are fantastic. The food looks delicious but I can't comment directly about it since I'm not eating. However, Scott and Alex behind the bar are working their butts off and are still attentive and intermittently conversational with my lonesome self. I love that. I noticed that the bartenders also wait tables here, as a former bartender I know what a difficult task it is to be the best of both worlds- a great bartender and server all at once. These two are clearly veterans as they seem to do what they do flawlessly. Ill definitely be coming back, and inviting my friends more often! Thanks guys!

Happy hour. Be careful which dishes you pick, varies from different sizes<br/>steamed clams in beer and bacon broth $6 - big size. I would order this again. The only plate that I would like to order it again<br/>steak and frites $5 - decent size. can't expect too much from a $5 steak. The steak was a little overcooked for me.<br/>shrimp and cod fritters $5 - small size, 4 pieces only. Could not find any shrimps but potato fritters. Not recommended.<br/>salmon cakes $5 - 4 pieces, pretty good value for $5. too salty for me after having the fritters.<br/>Service - very bad, self serve than anything else. I needed to go up to the counter asking for my bill after being ignored for the first two times. The restaurant totally had enough staff but some adjustments might be needed. I saw some staff walking around and did not offer to help.

They didn't do anything badly. One of the great things about going to a tapas place with a group is that you get to eat a little of everything on the menu. At small-plate joints, everybody can order one or two things and pass the plates around so friends can pick up a piece. "Tell it to a Spaniard," I hear you saying, "they've been doing it for generations." I'm glad we Norteamericanos are catching the trend.<br/><br/>I linked up at Flying Pig with a group of food bloggers (except, ironically, none of them has a blog, including me. I just yabber about tucker on Urbanspoon.) They're dedicated foodies, though, and the opinions I heard told me they knew their stuff. Aside from a few quibbles -- "the mayonnaise/sri racha sauce on the chicken drumsticks isn't zingy enough" -- nobody had a bad thing to say about Flying Pig. I can nitpick with the best, but out of the 10 or so items I tried from Pig's midday menu, I can't find fault with a one. At $5 or $6 for each playfully done plate -- tell me a mountain of crispy, thread-like potato strings looming over a chili-sauced medallion of skirt steak isn't a playful take on French steak frites -- it's cheap fun. The waiters handled our party of a dozen or so people adeptly, even though we had some folks leaving, new ones arriving, foodies changing seats to talk to those at the end of the table... It probably helped that we flew into the Pig at a slow time of day.<br/><br/>I won't bore you with details of what I ate, because Flying Pig's offerings are always mutating. I agree with the consensus of the reviews here, though. There's nothing to dislike. Except those fried Brussels sprouts. I had to try them after reading the reviews here, so I ordered a bowl. Thank goodness I could pass most of them off to my table mates. The cooks try hard to make them appetizing, bless their hearts. But in the end, they still taste like Brussels sprouts. I'll develop a liking for those things when pigs fly.

Good happy hour. Stopped in today for a snack. We were promptly greeted when we sat at the bar. We sampled the pulled pork poutine and the clams with a beer and bacon broth. Both were delicious. Specialty cocktail was fresh and tasty. Prices were reasonable. Staff was friendly. Would recommend stopping here.

Unbelievable.. My boyfriend and I recently had a wonderful dinner experience at The Flying Pig in Yaletown, Vancouver. We started off with waters that were shortly followed by fresh slices of French bread accompanied by oil and balsamic vinegar. My boyfriend decided on the steak, and I opted for the halibut (after a recommendation from our appropriately attentive server). She also recommended a delicious wine to go with my meal. Our meals arrived in surprisingly quick time, and I was happily surprised to notice that although the menu only specified potatos and a corn nage with the halibut, there were some asparagus, and a tomato as well. The fish was fresh and I have been craving it since! The portions were hearty but not too big, and as a result we had room to share a delicious lemon tart for dessert. The next time I'm in Vancouver, I will be finding my way back!

Great place to eat. I ate here twice in June, 2013. The food was great. Staff were really friendly and helpful. The wine was good as well.

Came here for happy hour and tried the truffle Mac n' cheese and short rib croquette. Great portion size for its price, especially the mac n' cheese which was good but incredibly rich. The croquette which I had been looking most forward to was a bit of a disappointment. Super salty made bearable only with a generous slather of the Sriracha parm basil dip.

The Flying Pig: Fly Atmosphere But Food Not So Fly. Stepped into The Flying Pig on a weekday at about 6:30 PM without reservations (it started to get packed at around 7-7:30 PM). The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere was wonderful. The decor included large wooden tables and an open kitchen where you can see the chefs in action. I had mussels and clams to share and they were delicious. For my entree, I had the 'red wine roasted beef short rib' which also included a bone marrow and mashed potatoes on the side. The taste was good, however, the compilation of the beef, bone marrow, AND cheesy mashed potatoes was overly rich. It would be nice if one of the sides were lighter and less greasy since bone marrow tends to be on the oily side.

Speechless. My boyfriend and I went to have lunch at Flying Pig last week Saturday. We came because of its great reputation on food. we sat down and ordered our share. I got the french toast (heard it's really yummy) and my boyfriend got the 'today special' pasta with bologna with triple cheese. The server brought the food over and left. We refilled our own water glasses and served ourselves, pretty much. Our server was not exactly attentive.<br/><br/>The french toast was deep fried to a crispy brown. The sides are extremely chewy and tasted lovely with the first few bites. Then I felt a little sick because of the greasiness. I stopped eating mine and started picking at my boyfriend's. It was not exactly too delicious (maybe I came in with too high an expectation?) It failed to impress me. The food is quite average, nothing you can't whip up at home. The foods that we ordered weren't unique or very tasty that it'd leave a strong impression on you. It's something you ate and you forget quickly after.<br/><br/>The server came to bring us the bill. We paid, with the 10% tip (I felt neglected throughout the whole service). The server's face turned to stone and threw the receipt down on the table. Without saying a word, he turned around and left.<br/><br/>I WAS SHOCKED.<br/><br/>This is a restaurant that prides on its fame and reputation; I was gravely disappointed with their food and service quality.

Phenomenal Experiences. I have been to The Flying Pig twice and I cannot say enough good things about it. Both times my guest and I were floored by how good the food was. I had the halibut with gnocchi the first time, and was incredibly impressed that the gnocchi was cooked properly. It can be such a hit and miss food, but it was delicious. What really wowed me was the service. Both times my table was taken care of very well. Any used items were cleared away immediately, our drinks (including water) were never more than a third of the way finished, and our servers always made sure everything was to our liking.

Sure, why not!. My bf and I like to eat when the restaurants are at least 40% occupied and when we went it was pretty much empty!!! however, always wanted to try this place out and glad I did!! food was great and the service even better! Also, since it was practically empty, they let us sit wherever we wanted, bonus!! <br/>Will be back for lunch instead of dinner though since this place is a lunch kinda place if u know what I mean ;)

Food was good I had AAA tend.... Food was good I had the AAA tenderloin done to my taste but the attitude of the hostess and some servers was too much for me ( need to say some of the servers were very nice). I didn't have a overall good experience and decided to leave before the dessert. I won't go back

Everything was very okay. The halibut was over cooked and the risotto was undercooked.

Sunday brunch. Went at 12:30 for brunch, and was glad to have a reservation. there wasn't a line up, but there weren't a lot of empty tables either. sat down and the server immediately brought the bread basket - which contained a frosted cinnamon bun! i got the short rib pasta and it was delicious - lots of beef in a rich creamy sauce with some rapini (wouldn't have minded a bit more green in the dish - to help me rationalize the debauchery of the rest of the meal). perfect meal for a cold wet vancouver day. my friend got the 2 egg breakfast, and subbed sausage for the bacon (extra $1 - the sausages were huge, so that seemed pretty fair), and enjoyed it. definitely not the place to go if you're vegan or on a diet, but really tasty food for a decent price.

Definitely a neighbourhood favorite! Great food, great value for money & great ambiance :) Halibut cheeks were amazing & so was the spicy shrimp pappardelle (not on the menu tonight but I hope it will come back!) Also things that got rave reviews were the skirt steak, brussel sprouts, veal & lemon tart. The only complaint @ the table (albeit a minor one) cheesy bone marrow bread could've done with a bit more marrow & a bit less cheese & bread. All in all a great spot & we'll certainly be back!

Great food! Finally someone who can make me eat brussel sprouts. Fantastic barmen! Try the Peartini. We had a load of fantastic small plates at the bar and got stuffed and happy very quickly! Great kitchen great atmosphere. Go to for a night in Downtown!

Fast to Move you Out the door. Well, I understand that everyone has to make money in a high-demand restaurant. This place was over flowing with people, so I can see that they want to turn tables fast. That being said we all ordered appetizers and wine with dinner. From the time we sat down, she kept pushing our order. The food was good (very rich), presentation nice. We had barely finished eating when they whisked away our plates, slammed the bill down (even though we hadn't asked for it). And, to top it off, within one minute of getting the bill we were presented with the Interac machine...!<br/>Whatever happened to savoir-faire? This place needs to take some etiquette lessons in service. Not nice. I won't be going back.

Over priced & not very good. I agree with the last post. The food lacked serious flavor and cost too much. I ordered the veal picatta which is a favorite Italtian dish of mine and i was very excited about it, just to be disappointed by its watered down flavor and blan risotto. The manager at the front door seemed kinda of stressed and I overheard him lecturing a waiter, which in my opinion should have been done in the back of the house, not in front of customers. The atmosphere is great except we were sat very close to the noisy, bright open kitchen which made it feel disjointed. I won't be going back. There are way better restaurants in Vancouver with higher quality craftsmanship. For instance if you want a great meal for comparable price try le Faux Bourgeois on E 15th! Its a lot less pretentious too, but I guess it is yaletown afteralll...

Visiting from USA. Thanks to urban spoon we found a great restaurant in a great area. dave the bartender and healthier the host were so nice. They were so busy and we didnt have reservations and they made room for us in front by the window which was a weird setting but they made it very enjoyable with excellent mixture Brussels sprouts, beef stew, mussels

Great atmosphere ... your clothes will smell like a kitchen though. I've been here 3 times; really like the place. Busy, good vibe, relaxed waitstaff. Food is good. <br/><br/>A couple of things to mention ... it gets warm inside ... and the ventilation in the open kitchen isn't great so - your hair and clothes will smell like food. A lot. Also, I had the veal piccata - it wasn't great. I know that it's supposed to be bathed in a caper butter sauce, but it felt like it was swimming in it ... while the flavor was nice the texture was off. The veal and the risotto were both too 'soft' ... the dish needs something with a bit of edge to it I think.<br/><br/>First world problem, I know :). Just want to give my 2 cents though!

The quality and ambiance of the food, service, and clientele is really nice but also fun. We had their special which was to share between 3 people. The plate came as a boat and had roasted halibut, spaghetti squash and roasted vegetables, arugula salad, beef briscuit (short rib), bone marrow, and garlic mash. So good with the bread! The staff are warm and welcoming. A+

Loved everything, even bought the T-shirt. Lively atmosphere, great service, outstanding food and wine.

Lacking flavor !!!. O man did I ever want to like this place, the menu has got some wicked sounding dishes, but it was very disappointing. To start I had the salmon platter, I was hoping that everything was made in house or close to, but the only thing that was, was the fishy tasting salmon tartar, the smoked salmon was very good but judging by the way it looked and when I asked the server if it was house made, well sadly it was not. The salmon candy was alright, but I could probably by it at almost any store around town. The main dish I had was the biggest disappointment. The Beef short ribs with the mashed potatoes and bone marrow, was sadly lacking major flavor and tasted very watered down. I was so disappointed, but I was hungry and since I waited almost an hour for a table ( 2 of us) I just wanted food, so I did not complain. The bone marrow was a very small amount with no distinct taste or flavor, more bone than anything. I did also get a side of there OMG cheesy marrow toast as well, but honestly it was just cheese toast !! My partner had the boccini and tomato salad, there was no taste at all, the tomatoes were not even ripe enough, no salt no pepper, like come on really !! The main dish she had was the Halibut, jeez was it dry and tasteless and the gnocchi was cold, not even hot at all. It tasted alright, a bit gummy. Over all it was a let down, to much hype, trendy turn and burn for yaletown.

GreatER Food In Yaletown. We visited the TFP early this year and i have to say in the hub of all types of restaurants in yaletown TFP delivers a fresh twist to your table. It's fancy yet not your traditional sense of divie food. It has that back-to-original intention from decor to dishes. We ordered Red wine braised beef & short ribs and wild seafood pappardelle. The beef and short ribs are perfectly cooked to medium and the seafood pappardelle has that subtle spicy falvor in it which meet my light-but-tasty demand. This place seems always packed. It's not a big space. I would prefer there is a bigger gap between each table so i won't accidently over hear gossip all around.

RIPP OFF ALERT. :) so this is actually hilarious to what extend will some restaurant owners will go to.<br/><br/>As you know 99% of Vancouver's restaurants are crap. crappy food, crappy service etc. Well this one beats them all, well may be for Glowball, that place blows as they water down beer and drinks.<br/><br/>The six of us went out for some drinks and decided to give THE PIG a shot.<br/><br/>First impression, trendy wish weirdly underdressed servers. Didn't really match the vibe.<br/><br/>We ordered drinks and then some appies. I think it was the meat platter.<br/><br/>When we got the platter we were shocked. The platter is $7 per person. We had 4 people that's 28 bucks. What came on the two platter were ......and I am not joking.....two pieces of capicoli meat, two pieces of some other meat and 2 pieces of cheese. That's one platter for two people. WTF......are we supposed to share this???<br/><br/>I asked the server what would I get if I ordered the platter on my own she said you would get less......1 piece of capilocli, 1 piece of cheese and one piece of other meat.....for $7<br/><br/>No more Piggy! :)

Mixes Reviews. The appetizers were a hit - tomato and boccancini and the beet/arugula/goat cheese salad were both done to perfection.<br/><br/>The chicken and mashed potatoes were average in flavour though generous in portion size. Halibut and gnocchi was the better choice.<br/><br/>The service was too cool for school. The host took down our number and said he would call when a table would be opened in a half an hour. We had our phone on, in a clear wireless reception area and did not receive a call from the host. We returned to the restaurant 45 minutes later and he lied to our faces that he tried our number three times and we did not answer, even though we watched him write down the number correctly. He was clearly lying and we could tell by his reaction, but it was late and we just wanted to eat so decided to stay. Our waiter was knowledgable and attentive, but not overly friendly.

Typical Vancouver Posh Society Club. The Flying Pig has really good food, and some mighty fine beer! Staff is friendly, service is 7/10, and quality of food is real darn good!<br/>The company it attracts is a lot of transient people from Yaletown. As a primary resident of Yaletown I can honestly say I don't like much of the people here. Most of them are posing a facade as if they have money and snub their noses at others. These are the people at the Flying Pig. But if you can manage to ignore them and reframe that most can't live alone due to costs and the majority will be forced to move within a year because they can't keep up with the perceived lifestyle, then I would recomend it haha It's interesting because I find a lot in Yaletown, food services staff to be hoity-toity, but that isn't the case here.<br/>I found their menu to be original and creative, presentation beautiful and details right down to the menu were taken care of.

A Go-To Place. Because of Vancouver's diverse dining scene, I hardly ever go to the same restaurant twice. However, The Flying Pig is the exception -- it's an unpretentious atmosphere that serves tasty, affordable, and quality food. Their beer and wine list, while not super large, is also affordable and very good. No wonder there's always a lineup outside! Their brussel sprouts are one of my favourite things in the world, and their pulled pork poutine is luscious. Their special -- mussels in a corn and bacon broth also stands out in my mind for being flavourful, but not heavy, with juicy, perfectly cooked seafood. Dishes that shine a bit less are their mushroom gratin and cheesey bread; although a substantial portion, their crimini gratin lacked flavour, and their marrow cheesey bread was too cheesey and not marrow-y enough. Over all though, I'd feel assured ordering anything on the menu.

Unpretentious in the thick of it. This place surprised us - smack dab in the middle of Yaletown, it could have easiy gone the other way. Chill place, great food, not overly expensive, good atmosphere - I'll go back.

Worth the effort required to get in for lunch. In addition to convincing its diners that pigs may fly, this little restaurant also does a pretty good job of convincing you that you're in gastown instead of yaletown while you eat there. The unadorned dark wood floors and white walls create a cool and minimal atmosphere I really enjoyed, a nice departure from the typical dark and cavernous interiors popular in the area, but its good looks mean plenty of reflective surfaces for sound to bounce off of. Prepare yourself for a noisy dining experience. <br/><br/>It's worth the noise, however, because the food is great! I've had a fish special once and the halibut once; the fish was cooked perfectly and both times it was served over a bed of fluffy gnocchi accompanied by a delicious sauce. Portions are a bit small, but they're fair, and you probably won't leave hungry. This is one of the few restaurants in Yaletown where I really felt I'd eaten something special and delicious I couldn't replicate at home; not bad for a 16-dollar lunch expenditure! <br/><br/>Be warned that it's very difficult to get into for lunch, as it's quite small. The last time I attempted to reserve for lunch I was informed that they were all booked up but I might succeed in getting a table for 4 if I showed up at 11:30 am or 1:30 pm, so try to show up for an early or late sitting if your lunch plans can't wait a week or so.

Amazing spot! From the moment we walked in the door. Great location, wonderful staff and fantastic food. Price point was totally reasonable. I really loved the atmosphere and would happily go back again.

Neighborhood Gem. The Flying Pig is in the same space as the former Amarcord restaurant in Yaletown. The name of the restaurant suggests a good story and I recommend you ask when you are there. ;)<br/>The space is simple but cozy with a variety of tables for two, four or even group tables. The menu has good variety and almost every dish has a key character that is not always easy to find in other restaurants: flavour! I like many of the dishes on the menu but on Sunday their specials were a thick roasted pork chop with bacon/mushroom/wine sauce with veggies and mashed potatoes, plus a halibut with a sauce that included chorizo for just a hint of spice and flavor. Both were absolutely delicious! When you seriously consider licking the plate you know you enjoyed your meal! During busy times there can be a wait (no reservations - first come first served) and it can be a bit noisy but it's all worth it! When you are walking through Yaletown exploring the city and you start feeling the hunger, this is the place to go. Bon appetit!

Next time I go is when pigs fly. I was with a party of three celebrating my friend's birthday, and he had chosen The Flying Pig as our dinner destination. Here's our take on it:<br/><br/>Food: 6/10<br/><br/>Service: 5/10<br/><br/>Atmosphere: 7/10<br/><br/>I had the ""Signature Pork Chop" with Pulled Pork Poutine. While the presentation was nice, the pork was tough (center loin) and bland, and really required every last drop of Apple Cider Au Jus which tasted more like mustard seed and broth. The resto's version of a steak knife consisted of a pointed butter knife making it nearly impossible to cut the chop into edible pieces, which frustrated me beyond belief. Nobody wants to fight with their meal.<br/>The poutine consisted of fries, cheese and maybe some fragments of pulled pork and NO gravy. The fries were soggy and undercooked and the whole thing tasted of nothing. Blah.<br/><br/>My friends had the Shortrib and Chicken, which were both bland accordingly to their accounts. The shortrib apparently tasted like a badly cooked roast, and the chicken was bland. and overcooked/dry. They were both served mashed potatoes......bland. TO THE CHEF(s): Please go back to culinary school and review the chapter on seasoning!!!!!!<br/><br/>The only thing I did enjoy was the raspberry ale. Yum.<br/><br/>As for the service, the Server kept on calling us "Bud". "Are you good, bud?"Do you need another overpriced drink, bud?""Bud this" & "Bud that"........I nearly threw my god damn plate at him. When I go to a restaurant, please call me "sir" or ask my name. <br/><br/>Overall, I can cook better meals at home in half the time for a fraction of the price. So when I do go out to a fine dining establishment.......it had better not be false advertising like this place. And despite the title of this rant, I will not return even if pig do decide to fly one day.
Natalia
Delicious. I love the Flying Pig restaurant. The service is superb as is the food. I had the lobster risotto and tomato and bocconcini salad with a glass of prosecco. One of the best restaurants I have been to since moving to Vancouver.

The mashed potatoes were cold and the chicken was nothing special. Not too crazy about this place. Bleh
Cheeseburger
The server was attentive without being overly annoying. The food was tasty but nothing too special, although the pasta was cooked perfectly al dente! We shared the mussels for an appetizer but the shells were big while the meat was tiny!! <br/><br/>Service is wonderful, they didnt mind us sitting and chatting for quite a while. Great.

Crappy service. Was there for late lunch with a small group. Waitress had a pretty negative attitude, had no idea of who ordered what and refused to split the bill...and then subsequently whined when she only got 10% tip.<br/>Food took a while coming, but was good value for money, but with staff like that, I wont come back.
