The keg is always a place to go for a classic dinner , the meals that we ordered were remarkably delicious, the lobster was amazing the shrimp the mashed potatoes everything was so tasty, I would recommend them
Had dinner with friends for a birthday celebration and our experienced was great. The restaurant is not that busy so we were seated right away. As expected, our food was very delicious and tasty. The service was excellent as the staff are super friendly and accommodating. The Keg never fails to satisfy my cravings. Will definitely go back here.
With the sun shining and the weather warming, there’s nothing like enjoying a delicious cocktail on a restaurant patio. Cocktail Hour is now available at The Keg featuring specially priced drinks and appetizers.
Came here for my dad's birthday. Parking was easy, (paid) underground parking lot, shared with UrbanFare and Shangri-La Hotel. It was our first time at this location, we've been to a few other The Kegs before, and found the outside atmosphere really nice and welcoming. They separated the lounge and the dining room area which meant more room for customers. We went in and was seated in minutes. Our server was super nice and attentive, asking for drink orders and explaining to us the feature they had tonight. Our appetizers and house bread was on point. The Keg's house bread is always really good, so good that if I could, I would probably just eat thar and order nothing else. Our entrees came shortly after, the plates were hot, and the food was hot (unlike our previous experience at Chop Richmond). For our dessert, our server gave us a complimentary Billy Miner's Pie to celebrate my dad's birthday and I ordered a Creme Brulee as well. Never tried yet but I would come in and treat The Keg as a dessert house because it was that good. Looking forward to coming back to this location.
This salad was pretty bad. I should have asked what they meant by “garden vegetables” but having giant rings of raw onion and shredded celery is not my type of salad. The vegetables were fresh though! I would never get this again. What I ate: 12oz Top Sirloin with a Twice Baked Potato ($31)

I always tell S to skip the chain restaurants, because there are just too many new and more exciting restaurants to try in Vancouver. Not that I don’t like chain restaurants, but you sort of know what you’re going to get. But since I had a $100 gift card to The Keg, I might as well use it, right? I suggested we try the somewhat new location at Alberni in Downtown and was blown away by both the beautiful interior and amazing food.
I normally can't stand any chain restaurants, however I stand by the Keg. This new location is really nice. I had the Sirloin and my guest had the New York. For the price you can't beat the Keg. The service is excellent and you get very good quality food and good sized portions.
I never thought about writing a review on The Keg. I do go to their different locations quite often, and I appreciate the fact that their steaks are consistently good. But that’s about it – there isn’t much else to talk about on their menu besides their steaks. But this evening I had a fantastic experience at The Keg, West End, being struck by this amazing piece of Kansas City Strip, and some great service.
The great thing about the Keg is its consistency across the country. I had an 8oz. Sirloin with an Oscar topper with a twice baked potato. Service was excellent as usual, food on point.
Food was great.
I had the New York. It was fantastic, my cousin ordered the large rib.
Wine blend was all right
The New York 4.5/5
Ribs 4/5
Wine 4/5
Service 4/5
Looking to chow down on some steak? Prime Rib is what I order everytime (but sometimes they run out) and it's juicy and flavorful each and every time. They always give you bread before your meals but make sure you ask for the cheese and garlic herb butter to slap on that bread! It is absolutely delishhh! This Keg is actually a bit weird. The lounge is in another building on the right. If you want happy hour you need to be sat in this separate building. Dining is for dinner meals only. Drinks are good tho, gin and tonics and Caesars aren't bad!!
The Keg recently opened up a new location last year in the Shangri-La Hotel on Alberni. This 2nd floor location is rather interesting as the restaurant and lounge are split into two sides with separate patios (the lounge patio has a view of Alberni and the restaurant has a view of West Georgia). We were situated in the lounge patio where it was easy to feel dwarfed by the height of the surrounding Shangri-La as well as the new Vancouver’s Turn (Trump Tower) that’s being constructed.
The annual lobster-inspired summer menu from The Keg Steakhouse + Bar is back. Modern Mix Vancouver was invited to a mouth-watering dinner at the Alberni Street location to celebrate summer with fresh hard-shell, full-meat North Atlantic lobster from Canada’s East Coast. Here’s what we had:
Growing up with super white parents that (A) don’t eat ethnic food, and (B) refuse to leave Richmond, one can imagine that I ate at a lot of the same restaurants growing up. For special occasions, this restaurant would always be The Keg Steakhouse and Bar. As a kid, I was super excited about the salad bar, and as I got older I progressed to their steak menu. My normal order nowadays is the Sirloin Oscar which allows me to combine my two loves of steak and seafood. But despite having dined at the Keg too many times to count, I’ve somehow never tried their annual Summer Lobster Menu. So when I was invited to try it out at their new location on Alberni, I immediately accepted.
The creme brûlée was wonderful!

I am a fairly picky and an indecisive individual, and there is only one other person that I know of who is pickier and more indecisive than me. It was also her birthday which meant that she had ever right to be pickier than usual! Her birthday evening was already all set (literally planned half a year in advance…) and we were not going to have a celebratory lunch, but we decided to grab a bite after finishing a run on the seawall. Like every The Keg establishment, the restaurant has a modern atmosphere and features a high ceiling, luxurious velour and/or leather booth seating arrangements, and dim lighting. Out of countless visits to The Keg ever since I was a child however, this is the first time the hostess opened the door for us! Perhaps because we visited for lunch, no one else was at the front of the restaurant, or the staff is well trained at the Alberni Street location. FAMOUS KEG CAESAR, "Polar Ice Vodka, Caesar mix, Tabasco and Worcestershire" ($7.00). Rating: 1/5. The Keg's Caesars are usually above average, but this one is truly disappointing. The Caesar is really tart, the drink lacks spice and the clamato tastes very watery. BRAMBLE, "Beefeater 24 gin, Cassis, fresh lemon juice, simple syrup and finished with fresh blackberries" ($10.50). Rating: 2.5/5. Trying the Bramble for the first time because I wanted a drink with blackberries, it is fairly strong. There is also a hint of sweetness and the drink remained cold for a pretty long time due to the plentiful amount of ice cubes. The blackberries are not fresh though and are frozen.
Thurlow is relocating!. This location will be closed as of March 29th, 2014. Our new Alberni location will be opening in summer of 2014! Be sure to stop in before March 29th for all of your Keg favourites! While we are closed, we do have 3 locations nearby: Dunsmuir, Yaletown and Granville Island.
Great Food, Drinks, Service & Atmosphere. We went to the Keg for dinner a couple Saturdays ago. The food & service was amazing.
We ordered Keg Size Long Island Iced Teas (spectacular as usual) followed by French Onion soup to split and 2 Teriyaki Sirloin Steaks with Garlic Mashed Potato’s and a side of sautéed Mushrooms.
Steaks cooked to perfection medium. French Onion Soup was the best I’ve had in a long while.
The only thing I miss is the Roasted Beef Steak Tomato topped with Parmesan Cheese as my Veggie Side.
Going to the Keg is always a treat for me; it was well over a year since I’ve been but a first at this location. All servers, bus people & hostess were very friendly and attentive, clearing the tables and bringing more drinks as needed.
This year was made extra special because m long time boyfriend proposed after dinner.
This will be my go to spot every year to celebrate!
Younger crowd confident staff good steaks. We came here for a team building lunch which happened to have been my birthday. I've been here before, and the service is always great! I decided to have their steak drizzled with garlic aoli sauce served with peppers, and sweet potato fries! Cooked to perfection, medium, the sauce really complimented the steak, as well the wine the waitress suggsted for me. I had some girls with me but wanted the waitresses digits so bad. She had it going on showing off her bod marriage material for sure. It's a pain to be married well not really but I had the team. For dessert we had their ice cream ...i forgot the name of it. nonetheless, the sweet tooth dessert was a perfect conclusion to our dinner. overall experience was a 4/5
Great Steaks. Decent atmosphere and great wait staff kept us our enjoyment here flowing. We tried French Onion Soup and Top Sirloin & Tiger Shrimp: They were highly recommended especially if you like the combination. They were perfectly cooked, tender and seasoned. I am actually drooling here thinking about them! Hahaa. It was a little hectic at times but the quality of the food definitely makes up for it.
Upbeat ambiance in this downtown keg. this is my 2nd fave keg location.
Great ambiance I can honestly say that if you want a decent piece of steak without the need to pay for a premium price - just come to the keg. Call me a non- meataterian - I am not a professional meat judge when it comes To steaks. But I trust my taste buds and I can honestly say that the sirloin I had here tasted better than the one at coast... Hey, the price differ by approx 40% there!! My dungeness crab dinner tho was quite a disappointment. The crab was probably anorexic before he was killed... :( it was so skinny and salty (because it was skinny) that I was still hungry after my whole crab meal!! Oh boy hope I miss the crab I had in Toronto at the leg mansion dt!!! :( Over all it was a solid meal Consider Its price point. I am def coming back for their steaks...
The food was very average but the staff were 101% I'd come back just because of the service we received!
Fantastic Food, Service, and Ambiance. I went here with a friend for a nice steak dinner. I got the crab cakes appetizer which I loved and my friend liked her french onion soup. She ordered a steak well done and I ordered a filet medium. Mine came out closer to medium-well to well-done so I alerted my attentive server. She kindly had the manager come over and they apologized and got me a new steak cooking right away. The new steak was delicious. The manager actually comped my steak and gave us a dessert. Mistakes do happen in a kitchen so for me, the deal-breaker is how the staff handles the mistakes. These guys were gracious and kind and fixed the problem right away. The service was great and the food incredible! I highly recommend this place to people in downtown Vancouver looking for a delicious nice meal.

Nice decor and low lighting makes this a decent choice for date night. The steaks are a little overpriced. Service is always good.
Love the lounge.. Great food and service. Very well run restaurant.
A Good Steak. I know it's a chain. But it is a chain that I like. The Keg on Thurlough is my favorite Keg.
The ambiance is a bit throwback. But there is a privacy to the seating that you do not get in all restaurants.
The service is friendly and helpful.
I always order the same thing. I get the Baseball Top Sirloin. It is a thick cut sirloin. They always cook it to a perfect medium rare.
For starters, I order the bruschetta and the Baked Garlic Shrimp. I love the shrimp. Sure it is a heart-attack waiting to happen. But I am willing to roll the dice.
Honestly, I prefer their steaks to Gotham's. Is it the best steak I've ever had. No, it is not. It wouldn't even make the top ten. But they still serve a consistently good steak in a friendly and casual environment.
I agree with Terry, good food, service and atmosphere. It's a no brainer
Service is great too, knowledgable and accomodating. We ordered crab and prime rib dinners with intention of sharing and they split the plates for us with extra sides for each.
The side items were great as always from the Keg. Simple, well prepared sides are what’s in order and the Keg does them right and proper. Indeed, baked potatoes and mushrooms go together with steak like Alabama goes together with childhood obesity. Overly creative pretentious combinations like lobster with a nectarine foam from arrogant chefs have no place here, and after a massive plate of meat and potatoes like this, thinking about some 100 dollar bullshit fine-dining dinner is a laugh.
Foodology December 4, 2014 Downtown , Steakhouse , Three Beakers The Keg Steakhouse + Bar has been around since 1971 and now has locations all across Canada and select states. They specialize in tender, juicy steaks, slow roasted prime rib, shellfish, and desserts. M and I go to The Keg to celebrate all our anniversaries. On this particular day, it was our 1 year wedding anniversary, so as per all our special traditions, we come to the Keg to have a steak. It’s a chill environment to just enjoy our company together, chow down on steak and have a few drinks. Our server was quite nice and asked us if we were celebrating a special occasion. We weren’t dressed up fancy, but yes, we were celebrating our anniversary. Of all the times we’ve dined at The Keg on our dating anniversaries, this was the first time anyone has asked! The waiter said because we were celebrating such a grand moment, we would be getting a Billy Miner Pie on the house, so we should save room for it. Their menu is pretty standard, but prices are slightly higher. I would say about $2 more from what I noticed. We found a smaller menu on the side of the tabl
How do you like your steak? I prefer to have mine served medium or medium rare. Well a few weeks ago, during the week of Dine-Out Vancouver, I went out to the Keg for a nice steak dinner. It was well worth it! I definitely made the right choice, when I ch
A few weeks ago, my BFF returned from a work assignment earlier than expected and decided to meet me downtown for lunch. As a last minute lunch place, Keg Thurlow is a sure bet. As soon as we sat down, we ordered the yam fries for Ryan...he thinks it's th
My buddy Jeremy's been in Japan for the last three years, and where does one go when they are deprived of some Grade A Canadian beef for so long? The Keg of course! Unless your pocket-book allows you to pay a visit to Gotham's, Hy's or Joe Fortes, The Keg is your next best bet. Not exactly a newcomer to The Keg, nor to the location on Thurlow, I was surprised it rated so high on Urban Spoon (91%) compared to Richmond (79%). Personally, the Richmond location is my favourite because for all my visits, they have always had the biggest hunks of prime rib compared to any of the other Vancouver locations. Honestly, Vancouver Keg Size Omega were about the size of a Keg Size at the Richmond location. Anyway, despite this, we went to the Thurlow location because I'd been there, but just hadn't done a review yet =) The place has a spaciouls lounge and bar area, and pretty much looks like all the other locations, except a slightly different configuration. My buddy Jeremy is eating "healthy" nowad
