Review The Burrow - Vancouver

Young vibes! Ordered cheese baked burrito RONNY RUSSELL at $12.50 (Roasted yams, guacamole, black beans, salsa verde, purple cabbage, rice, and toasted pumpkin seeds) What a treat to my palate, juicy, tasty, add a bit of spicy (their orange home made sauce.) Top that with vegan chicken wings. Love the cumin flavour... Tacos I wasn't too impressed. Warm burrito is nicer! Very nice surprise ! I had that with a curi osity cola. Very happy.

I've been looking for a vegan mexican influenced restaurant for a while and finally found my favorite place. Burritos are awesome. Dish sizes are bigger than you get in many other places. Atmosphere is really chill and service is second to none.

Mucho bueno, gracias! A cool, laidback and hipster style eatery with a great vibe and dishing up yummy, fresh and wholesome vegetarian grub across a quirky fun menu. I had the Vegan Leona Gayle Baked Burrito with Cheese which is most certainly your best bang for buck option and my partner had a Quesadilla Smoky-Sweet Chipotle Tofu with Side Salad, after a starter of Chips and Salsa we were both stuffed and certainly a great feast with fantastic value for money. Value aside, the food quality was great and fresh tasting. I love the menu creativeness and mix of veggie and vegan-based ingredients they use to whip up great home-cooked style Mexican grub. Being a local vegetarian joint with extensive vegan options and substitutes, this is one of my locals and a must visit every so often for a great banquet. A couple of recommendations from me personally would be rad if they had refried beans for mains and churros for dessert! Gutted to see there was no Churro to finish off such a dope dish. Also check out their homemade in-house habernero sauce, it's pretty dope! The staff were super accommodating and very friendly, happy to chuck me in a bunch of yummy fresh chillis in my burritos to make it nice and spicy! Support local businesses!

Nourishing delicious authentic tasting food. Amazing options for veggie vegan and gluten free. Luxurious choice of cocktails specials! And the beer list! I'll come back until I phiscally can't anymore. A must see for any East Van visit. Much love see you soon.

Amazing experience. Talented chefs and staff. Food is cooked with passion and served with love. Spectacular vibe for all your date nights.

DELICIOUS! Boozy horchata, boozy hibiscus lemonade, the cheesy dip, and 7 tacos with beans/rice and side salad left two big dudes *rolling* out the door. And all said and done with an 18% tip for under 80 bucks - can't go wrong! Highly recommend.

I really like coming here, the atmosphere is incredible. The staff are always so nice, the food is high quality and the drinks are on point. You will not be disappointed in this community staple of commercial drive!! Check it out on your next date night yall.

Easily one of my favourite spots. The food and drinks are always delicious. I love getting a baked burrito (all of the flavour combos are amazing) and their house made horchata!

Honestly I was apprehensive, as I'm more of a carnivore.... Pleasantly surprised though! Ordered the eggs benny, but I was conflicted about which sauce to try as I've never had either of the options. Our server suggested I have one of each sauce and I have to admit both are fantastic! There wasn't anything on the plate that I didn't love, and as an added bonus a decent cup of coffee. I would certainly suggest giving it a try if your in the area.

huge fan of this place. the spicy food is actually spicy. the portions are good and relative to the price for once, which I don't find to common in a lot of Vancouver restaurants.( usually I find myself say " that's all i get for 15 bucks. Honey we are going to have to hit up Uncle Fatihs after this") I had the enchiladas this time around. I'm not a vegetarian, but I love vegetarian/vegan food for the fact that you'll leave feeling full, but not gross full.

I used to love this place until the dismal service I received today. I tried to flag down my server for 10-15 minutes but she avoided eye contact AND was preoccupied playing multiple rounds of rock, paper, scissors with another server. I saw another table also struggling to catch the other server's attention. The only time our server came to our table was to get our order. Bandidas, your food is great but your service is absolutely terrible. You lost a customer today!

First time here today. The server we had at the beginning wasnt friendly at all. I ordered the vegan enchilada, which was $1 more. Slightly disappointed at the price diff - it doesnt make ppl want to order vegan if they were on the fence. The second server we had was much nicer. The food was decent tasting. Honestly I was disappointed at how my leftovers had already been thrown away 30 min after we left the restaurant. I called back to see if it was still there and no luck. It was almost half the meal. I know its my fault for leaving it behind, but when I used to work at a restaurant we had a policy to keep leftover containers for a few hours in case the diners came back for them. Maybe something to keep in mind for Bandidas.

I love the food, the servers, and best of all, the incredible commitment to community and social justice that is built into this business. We're huge fans!

The food is always fantastic every time I visit. Try all 6 taco samples you won't be disappointed. Love all the local art and a perfect place to seat many friends. Best part...lots of Vegan options and yummy desserts. I find service fast and the staff friendly.

Awesome restaurant. I'm a meatatarian all the way but this place is superb. I highly recommend any of their Baked Burritos especially the one with goat cheese. The nacho plate with goat cheese, mozzarella, and beans is truly amazing and very generous. Don't forget to take a jar of their spectacularly spicy orange salsa home with you for the next time you make some burritos.

I was amazed by this cozy restaurant, the food is delicious!! I totally recommend it

Great food, well priced. Long queues so that speaks for itself. Only gave it 4/5 because service was slow and not attentive but they were very busy (Labor Day Holiday) so maybe that's why. And I'm not a sweet dish kind of person but the Cinnamon Flan was next level delicious!

Love you guys thank you for having awesome food to bring all my non vegan/veg friends to when I want to be able to eat more than a salad or a rice bowl! Keep doing your thang. Ps. The service was wonderful, and super fast on a Sunday! Xoxxooxoxoxoxoxoxo

The food was excellent. For having all vegetarian items and no meat amazing! For all meat eaters a must try to see how being a vegetarian can be feasible.
Judy Shore
Service was awesome. I was greeted at the door as soon as I walked in. and the Ronny Russell Burrito was phenomenal. For a vegetarian dish, it was full of flavour and kept me full for hours. I wish I lived closer as I would become a regular. :)

I've advocated this place for 6 years and sorry to say, due to the declining service I am never coming back to this place again.
Annaliese Ash
Brava/Bravo for paying your staff fair wages. Happy to pay more for my amazing meal!

Service was great and we were seated quickly. Our Mexican brunch sure hit the spot with veggie bacon, poached eggs, beans, cornbread, salsa, guacamole and shredded purple cabbage. We'll be back!

Bandidas Taqueria is a Mexican Vegetarian Restaurant. It has served all-day breakfast and local beers. My friends invited me to this place before Christmas last year. Both of us had such a great experience at Bandidas.  <br/>  <br/>Location <br/>Bandidas Taqueria is located in Vancouver right on Commercial Dr., which is 5 mins walking distance to Commercial Skytrain Station. There are so many restaurants around. Bandidas Taqueria is one of them serving up vegetarian Mexican - inspired cuisine. <br/><br/>Interior Design <br/>There are lots of tables inside Bandidas Taqueria for different groups of people. People who come to this restaurant are first to come and first serve. Inside the restaurant, the restaurant space is quiet of an open and airy casual dining room. My friend and I had dinner at Bandidas Taqueria. Actually, this place is quite of bit busy. It’s a welcoming place and the servers are very nice and friendly. <br/><br/>Food <br/>Because of a vegetarian Mexican restaurant, my friend and I have ordered two traditional dishes for ourselves. My friend had Ronny Russell Burrito and I had Horace “Lefty” burrito in a bowl (no wrap) plus Guacamole. Both of our food came out of the kitchen fast and in a huge portion of food. Ronny Russell Burrito is made by roasted yams, guacamole, black beans, salsa verde, purple cabbage, and toasted pumpkin seeds. Horace “lefty” is including spicy corm mix, pinto beans, fresh jalapeños, cheese, fresh-cut tomato salsa, sour cream, and crushed tortilla chips. Both of the dishes are so tasty and delicious. <br/><br/>Price<br/>The price of food is not expensive. Both dishes are around $11.50 dollars. It’s just right for the amount of food they serve. With this portion and quality of the food, I highly recommend this place! Definitely, we will come back to Bandidas Taqueria.

I had a tasty enchilada with black beans and mole. Super filling. Nice chopped salad on the side. Friendly service. Excellent mezcal sour. Thumbs up.

Bandidas has an excellent vegetarian slant on Mexican cuisine. The quinoa chocolate cake was smashing. The tacos are exciting in looks and flavourful. We had 5 of the seven choices and I thought it somewhat unnecessary for all of them to look the same. But yummy all the same. The stuffed mushrooms are on the decadent side but irresistible - just a warning. Staff is personable. Interior and ambiance were great. Even with a full house I didn't find it too loud. It didn't feel crowded and service was timely.
The Joker
Amazing food - everything from the breakfast burrito to the Ronny Russel bowl is amazing. Great quality at a very reasonably price point. Everything is priced European style (taxes included in the price on the menu) which is a nice feature. Best thing is that even though it is a hipster’ish establishment the service is very un-hipsterish (people with fedoras, plaid shirts, too short jeans, and endless opinions who feel too good to serve anyone even though they work in hospitality); service at Bandidas is always excellent!

Back in the summer while planning a catchup with J, she suggested that we go to Bandidas Taqueria. Bandidas is one of her favourite restaurants in Vancouver, and she is not a vegetarian/vegan either!<br/><br/>Bandidas also seems like it is one of the staple and classic restaurants along Commercial Drive. I’m always down to try new places for my blog, so off we went one summer evening.

This is a popular restaurant located near the corner of Broadway and Commercial serving vegetarian/Mexican food. It is quite loud inside, with a casual, hipster-type atmosphere. For food, I got their Morgan Taylor Breakfast Burrito, and had it baked with cheese for an extra $2.75 charge. The burrito was fairly tasty, and the portion was big enough to keep me satiated. The service was fairly relaxed but friendly. All in all, while I wasn't blown away by this restaurant, I did enjoy my visit. This is a good option for vegetarians.<br/><br/>Morgan Taylor Breakfast Burrito ($10.75 + $2.75 for baked with ranchero sauce and cheese):<br/>3.5/5<br/>The burrito consisted of a whole wheat tortilla wrap filled with scrambled eggs, potatoes, cheese and sour cream, and came with a small side of tomato salsa. Although not enormous (at least not to a pig like me), it was definitely quite large, and was stuffed with a really generous amount of filling. The potatoes were well-seasoned, bordering on salty - I have a pretty high tolerance so I was okay, but I think that it might be too salty for some others. The eggs on the other hand were a bit too bland. I personally did not like the wrap that much; being whole wheat it suffered from a rather mealy texture. In spite of all the flaws, the burrito was still overall quite tasty and, in spite of being a self-proclaimed meatatarian, I actually didn't miss the meat here.
NeverSayWhen
Food here is always pretty good, but I never find myself wanting to come here.  I just end up here when friends want to go.  It isn't memorable or that interesting.  I always WANT to like it more than I actually do.

• pay street parking or take the transit, short walk from Commercial drive skytrain station<br/>• now a bigger seating area, always a busy resto<br/>• check in with the hostess as soon as you arrive<br/>• glasses if water are pre poured by the entrance, personally I think a fly or a bug could easily get in there anytime<br/>• they don’t have very comfortable seating that for sure; they were fixing the area near the washroom as they were putting the kegs- cold air was blowing and made me soooo cold <br/>• sevice is just ok<br/>• Food for sure is good, that’s the reason why people keep goinh back for more<br/>• lots of veggie options available<br/>• Tortilla soup $5.75 (half): 3.5/5 nicely put together, just a little bit salty for me<br/>• Leslie’s L’il Quesadilla $5.25: ooohhhh really really good! The gooey cheese is the best ever!<br/>• Estelle Burrito $9.75, add $2.75 for baked: huge portion! Share if you must!

A shorter review here as I found myself with little to be impressed by.<br/><br/>The décor itself was nice, and the staff were certainly friendly. That probably kept me from giving the restaurant a 2 or lower.<br/><br/>The menu is limited and the items can barely be considered "Mexican" cuisine. I would describe it's variety as more of the imaginings of a wealthy hipster with no Spanish origins knowledge of Mexican food based off their experience at the local Taco Bell. While it at least contains an ounce of flavour, do not expect it to be reminiscent of anything more Mexican than the great value taco seasoning in the back of your cupboard.<br/><br/>Service was slow, although I was reassured by friends it normally is not. The server checked on us and kept our drinks full, so it was likely an issue of kitchen speed.<br/><br/>The food itself was a decent portion, but again the flavour was fairly underwhelming with little contrast.<br/><br/>I also tried the house made ginger beer, as small batch ginger beer is a guilty pleasure of mine. It's taste was more similar to "essence of ginger in entirely unflavoured water."<br/><br/>I will not be returning.

There is hope for vegetarians in Canada with the presence of Bandidas Taqueria. <br/>Best part - Almond milk available for your coffee. Good stuff<br/>

Bandidas Taqueria is a Mexican joint with all day breakfast. They have a new food truck and seem to make everything that they serve. Everything is fresh and quite delicious. Enjoy!

When you're ill-inspired and jaded by the same old same old, what does one do? Branch out of course! Shuddering at the mere thought of another omelette...we decided to forgo a "normal" brunch in lieu of the unconventional Bandidas Taqueria; brunch fare with a Mexican twist!.   Admittedly, I was mainly won over by the promise of gluten-free french toast (Mexican it is not, but do you know how hard it is to find GF french toast?!) You don't even know.
Marty
Great Margaritas but this isn't just a bar is it?<br/><br/>Bland food with zero texture and lineups for all my poor vegan friends that for some reason didn't want to go to Acorn or Bao Bei. The reason is the need for the chef (and we'll be kind here) to add overcooked unseasoned beans to everything.<br/><br/>"The nachos are ok!" - Yeah because melting cheese on green nacho chips is haaaard.<br/><br/>Terrible place .. if you get dragged here sit at the bar and slam some margaritas.. maybe the bartenders should create the menu too??

I Place had cool atmosphere on arrival, I liked the mood/art/lighting/decoration and people seemed to be enjoying themselves. <br/><br/>Washrooms' hygiene standards were kind of questionable...<br/><br/>Service was okay, not there to add to your experience but just deliver your order. Portions were alright, taco flavors were above average and surprisingly filling! Cocktail was a hit and miss between the two of us. <br/><br/>Lastly, the guac was disappointing! For a Mexican joint I expected way more in flavoring but it was underwhelming (not enough lime juice/salt!). <br/><br/>I'd come back only if a friend was super keen on going, but wouldn't make a point going here again.

Love the fact that it's vegetarian here! It's a good place to go with your meat lover friends because they'd never figure that it's vegetarian! My favorite here has got to be their ronny russell taco because you can't go wrong with roasted sweet potatoes! Then their leona gayle is a close second. The tofu mixture in that taco is so good you woudn't even know it's tofu. I can't get over it.

Portions are huge. I couldn't finish my meal so I saved it for dinner! I had the rocky's enchilada with salsa verde, but they didn't put enough sauce in it so it tasted pretty bland. Felt like I was just eating plain beans with cheese after a while. Service was nothing special. Our server was very monotone.. she seemed either very bored or annoyed.

Now I like this place .. best Mexican in this part of wood . First time - Filling and a cool vibe place. Though vegetarian, it makes up for the lack of meat in the taste of food . Good quantity and service . Reasonably priced for the menu
Alan King Bowden
Amazing vegetarian Mexican place. Great vibes and unreal food. The baked burrito is always a classic, however I am always tempted to get the mole enchiladas which are also great. Good drinks menu and the hibiscus and ginger margaritas are must haves

Brunch: Service good. However, food was not good. Hash browns were horrible - must have been made night before.<br/>Tasted friends veggie sausages: May as well chew on cardboard. <br/><br/>

June 12, 2016<br/>Always drove by this place and since my boyfriend loves Mexican it was on our list to go. After recently re-opening after renovations, it was the best time to come try this place. Little did we know this place was vegan. I'm not a big fan of Mexican food since I don't like beans or cumin. My go to is chicken quesadilla, but of course this place didn't have any. I heard they were good for their drinks and nachos, but I didn't try neither as I already had a few drinks from Happy Hour in Cactus Club.<br/><br/>Chipotle Tofu Enchilada - Baked with lots of cheese on top. Felt like the dough was little overcooked. Tasted very bland without the sauce. I chose the regular Enchilada sauce. It was quite spicy, so be aware to not overload it on first bite! The greens were super colourful. I see why they call it their "beautiful" salad.<br/><br/>Atmosphere - Very hippy style. Crowded restaurant. Washroom were small.
Jake
We ordered fajitas and the Connie burrito, both veganized. The fajitas were good with a nice variety of fillings but needed some salt. The "Connie" burrito was excellent.  The flavour was just right.  I hope they'll consider making their dishes vegan by default or at least not charge extra to veganize.
Imogen
Had a tasty dinner here. The place was packed by 6pm on a Monday night but the service was fast. The hibiscus margarita is definitely worth a try if you are a margarita person. We ordered baked burrito and enchiladas. The food was very heavy and lacking a freshness that I love about Mexican food. Overall a good experience so I would go back to try other menu items.
Amanda Pang
Came here after the renovation! I'm pretty happy with the selection, and the prices are pretty okay for the quality I received. I ordered some enchiladas for dinner, and the staff were very attentive. Definitely coming back to try the brunch menu and other items.
Melosaurus Foodivore
Solid food! We had two vegans, one person who couldn't eat dairy or sugar, and one person with no food 'things' except it better taste good. We were all incredibly happy with what we had. The menu is massive and delicious, to the point where it's hard to choose. We each had something totally different and all received a giant thumbs up!<br/><br/>And the serving sizes are pretty large. Prepare to roll out. This place will be on my list of regular stops when cruising thru Van in the future!
Mountainveggie
First time here I wasn't impressed because I was expecting authentic Mexican.  I readjusted my expectations to hippie-mexi food for the next visit and realized how awesome Bandidas is!  I especially like the breakfasts -- benny, egg muffins on these addictive corn muffins, and the lemmy are my fav.  The house-made orange hot sauce the provide is also fantastic (and really hot!)
Candy_foodie
I took my family to this mexican vegetarian restaurant. My dad doesn't eat onion and garlic so there wasn't much choice for him to eat. The waitress is very helpful. She helped us with the menu that my dad can eat. She has patience to deal with us. My dad has 3 taco that the choice of taco were arranged by the waitress. My sister and I had Hicks Benny. It's very yummy. Portion is good enough. Everything so far is good. Cant really complain anything.
Jocelynwong
Very nice atmosphere; service was friendly and food was good. I tried an assortment of vegan tacos and enjoyed them! Good flavour and perfectly hearty. I really like the aesthetic of the restaurant and the fact that there are lots of options for plant based eaters.
Catherine Kiss
I have been here a few times and have always been happy with the food, drinks and service. They do get busy though out the day and if you are not a fan of waiting for a table, wouldn't recommend this place. That's to say if you come by when it's busy. For myself I don't mind waiting here, as I don't have too wait long. Usually can get a sit at the bar fast. I actually don't mind sitting at their bar. I am a person that dislikes sitting in bar areas and walk away and go somewhere else. <br/>
El Camino
I'm not vegan or vegetarian but I will try a place once. I came here for lunch with my<br/>Family and since we were a party of 6 we waited 45 mins for a table. Once we sat down we waited another 10 minutes before we got any water or coffee. The menu was plentiful and there were a lot of options. I ordered breakfast tacos and for $9 I was dissapointed. I can honestly make the same dish at home and much better to. They were small and the toppings were lacking in portions and flavor. I considered ordering the breakfast burrito but when I saw how much they charge for guacamole and potato hash it would have been $15 for a veggie burrito. JJ bean has a yam breakfast burrito which has the same ingredients for the half price (except the guac) and is much more flavorful. <br/><br/>No offense to my Caucasian friends but this was "gringo" Mexican food. No kick or lack of heat in the dishes. I'll go to Sal y Limon if I want the real deal.
Tarunroy Kunda
I ordered homemade nachos and their house special fajita's along with hibiscus lemonade which is so refreshing.. And my friends ordered cheese grilled burrito(lasagna style) with a side of cinnamon almond smoothie and they loved it too. I definitely recommend others to experience their hospitality and yummy food for affordable prices.
Megan
Hearty Mexican breakfast! I got one of the breakfast burritos and man was it filling! Service wasn't great but the food was hearty and delicious. I'd be curious how it is for lunch and dinner. We'll be going back!
Constant Cravings
We felt like getting some Mexican food for our Friday lunch so we did some quick research on Yelp and found Bandidas Taqueria on Commercial. The decor looks eclectic and fun. The walls are covered with beautiful paintings that you can buy. What we didn’t know was that they were a vegetarian restaurant but we were down to try new things!
Bennys N Caesars
The bennys here are always on point. Egg perfectly cooked and a tasty tomatillo or Ranchero sauce on an cornbread muffin. The only downfall is if the egg is hastily put on the muffin it gets soggy from the water the egg was cooked in.
BeingTazim
This cozy restaurant is always packed- because people know the food is good! There's breakfast, brunch (served until the afternoon), lunch, and dinner. I've eaten there a few times- for vegan tacos, enchilada, and French toast. The coffee is good, the orange hot sauce (which they put on their tables) is a must-try, and the location is very convenient. The sourdough French toast was truly incredible! I'm going to go back for them very soon! They have lots of vegan-friendly options throughout the menu.
Maggi Mei
They are well known for their vegetarian and vegan friendly Mexican style food. My guest and I were neither, but apparently the cuisine transfers well to omnivores like ourselves. The restaurant’s exterior was wood planked with a red brick foundation. Its black iron sign in bold catches your eye as you drive by. I have passed by on several occasions, to see a line extending out the door and bodies lingering in wait by the entrance. Today we came earlier in the afternoon to avoid both for dinner. There is plenty of metered parking in front and even more around the block. This and their accessibility with transit make them hot spot for students and destination diners alike.
Michael
Very fun place for dinner. They have stellar homemade tortillas that are great with the fajitas. Using tempeh in the fajitas is a unique twist on an old classic. Lots of options, like tacos, burritos, and enchiladas, with delicious veggie fillings. Their habanero hot sauce is spicy yet addictive.
Ronis Kitchen
Great food, service and atmosphere, we definitely go there every time we visit Vancouver... Love the tacos! and the drinks.. and the desserts mmm!
@annanguyen_
Why I love this place: good food and service at affordable prices. I love their options for tacos! <br/>Would I come back: yes<br/>Would I recommend it to others: yes
Teresa McCarthy
Homestyle Hippie-Mexican fusion. They get vegan & gluten-free right. Perfect for a quiet afternoon nosh or a raucous brunch or dinner. If you are looking for muy auténtico cuisine, this isn't your place, but you'll find plenty of tasty, healthy, fun food.
Usraek
Filling, well priced, but fairly bland overall. I had the tacos, friends had a couple baked dishes. Sort of expected more punch, but the tacos I had all ran together in flavour and texture.
Chocoholic Frenchie
I ordered the sherman’s benny. It consisted of creamy goat cheese and caramelized onions on house-made cornbread muffins topped with a sauce (we had a choice of salsa verde or roasted red tomato salsa). The bennys were served with pinto beans, roasted yams & potatoes and cabbage. It was only 11.75$ for a lot of food. It was a good proportion and the price was very fair. The potatoes & yams were nice and crusty. I liked that the sauce was so light, because bennys tend to be heavy on the stomach sometimes but this one was light. The beans were a nice addition too.
Syd
I'm glad that I finally checked this place out, as it's only a short walk from me and I've been recommended it many times! It's a nice little place, cheap and friendly service. The sangria was light and refreshing, and the tacos were super flavourful! The enchilada was incredibly cheesy, but maybe a bit bland. I'll definitely be back to check out the brunch, or to try more of the tacos. Also, it's always a bonus for me to have my pick of the entire menu because it's veggie veggie veggie! (Although you'd never guess it at first glance or even after tasting)
Coconut
Yummy Vegetarian Food!. The Hick's Benny (with smashed avocado 'filling') on their homemade cornbread was delicious! Great portion size and variety of sides, including some pretty darn good rosemary roasted potatoes. Now, don't come expecting great service or out-of-this-world flavours, but just simple vegetarian eats that hit the spot. P.S. prices include tax already!
Shauna Bevacqua
This was a place I had wanted to try for ages and actually did for the first time a few months ago with the boyfriend (that’s Rowan, official Nacho Photographer). We loved it, though we didn’t try the nachos at that time. But we were vErY intrigued by them as they list three different types of nachos on their menu. We ordered two out of the three as there was a total of 6 of us at the table and three seemed slightly excessive/exhausting. (I know, pathetic) We weren’t super impressed of either, to be honest. Overall both orders of nachos were just OK. We were happy to be eating them (as we usually are with any nachos) but they didn’t wow us or really make us want to come back for more. I’d go back to Bandidas to try other food on their menu, but probably wouldn’t order their nachos again. If you don’t believe me, just look at Daniel’s expression in the pic below. Basically sums up our overall feelings of these nachos. However, we still had a BLAST! Margaritas are the best pairing beverage for nachos, by the way. And, we had a few beautiful nacho club guests this time as well: Adam, Margie, and Daniel, who all contributed wonderfully to the review of the nachos. Read on. ROUND ONE: HAMPTON NACHOS - Overall 2.78/5 (waahhh waaahhhhhh) Sex Appeal: 3/5 Yeah, I mean these nachos were okay looking. Daniel was quoted on saying they weren’t “sexy enough”. I don’t personally know Daniel’s standards of sexy yet we all agreed whole heartedly with this statement. They were just very neutral looking and didn’t really bring up any emotions in us. I think the only reason it got as high as a 3 is because we were starving and the sight of nachos cause

Yummy in the Tummy. My husband picked this place for date night and we were not disappointed.<br/><br/>I ordered the Enchiladas (Beans, Salas Verde and Rice/Beans) and he ordered the Quesadilla.<br/><br/>My enchiladas were so good!!! They had tons of filling, good flavour and lots of salse verde! They were served piping hot, my preferred method of serving. My only comment would be that the rice was obviously the bottom of the barrel and could have used a good stir before serving (they were clumpy).<br/><br/>My husbands quesadilla was really good. Lots of filling again and great flavors. Only comment was that the tortilla was a bit dry and seemed over toasted (not burnt though).<br/><br/>The portion sizes were good and the restaurant was clean.<br/><br/>We will definitely be back!

Great neighborhood hangout ~ bargain quality food and drinks. I'm not a vegetarian but I still dig Banditas. They use high quality ingredients to make good tasting meals at a very reasonable price. Service is warm, friendly and efficient. I especially like the breakfasts at Bandidas and really appreciate it that they serve good brewed coffee. Late night nachos are also a pleasure.

Great value mexican. I love this place for one thing: it's consistency. Very good mexican food @ great value. Every time I come, the food is excellent and the service is equally up to par. Waiters are always with a smile and bring food fast. Great presentation of the food as well.

Will come again. This is a very cute place. The waitresses were very nice and informative, and the service was quick. We ordered the Pete and bits nachos, which were delicious (but a bit pricey)! We will ordered them again next time. I ordered the Rocky's enchiladas but didn't like it much, too many beans and the tortillas didn't have any seeming presence. It didn't take away from the experience though: the nachos and the wonderfully friendly service definitely deserve another visit.

If Vegetarian was this good, I wouldn't slam it so much. As a guy who loves his pork belly and bacon, I normally avoid vegetarian restaurants. This is doubly so when most of the diners resemble the cast of Portlandia. I was happy to be proven wring in this case. In fact I was so impressed, I will not only be back, but I would recommend this to others... seriously. it's that good. <br/><br/>Special mention to the Goat cheese dip. Don't get me wrong, I'll be back to killing pigs tomorrow, but this is a great place to eat.

Great food!. I've actually never had an even mediocre meal here, it's always fantastic. Friendly staff, lots of choices for veg people, and never disappointed. The only drawback is that it's so popular it's sometimes hard to get a seat, but that's easily rectified by going just a little earlier than planned so you can get seated when you want. Definitely try this place!
Limbertimber
Meh.. If you own a frying pan you can make a better breakfast. I'm not saying it's bad, I just don't see why anybody cares about this place.

No Veggies Here~. I went to Bandidas on Sunday night with a girlfriend and it is four days later and I am still p.ode. <br/>I am a hardcore vegan and for me to actually leave a bad review at a veggie restaurant means it's terrible, because I want everyone in the world to go to veggies restaurants even if they are not veggie.<br/><br/>There were two problems, both are the most important things too! The Service, and The Food.<br/>My girlfriend's baked burrito was obviously pre-made and just thrown in the oven. Everything was tasteless, and there was a total overabundance of purple cabbage both IN the burrito AND the salad. I think just part of the meal with purble cabbage will do please! <br/>I am on strict raw veggie diet right now and they only veggies they could give me that were not prepped already were spinach, romaine, and avocado. That is all I had. Nice salad. My waitress (without even ASKING the kitchen) told me EVERY other veggie in the place was already prepped for other dishes. I couldn't even get any sliced tomato or any of the cabbage that was alll over my girlfriend's plate!!! She didn't even check on us ONCE after she brought the food. Instead she sat at the bar and laughed loudly with the other servers. <br/>The food is NOT FRESH. EVERYTHING is pre-made!!!! (she basically told me this!!!!!)<br/>If you need to be accommodated for anything, good luck. And this place is freezing. <br/>and these hipsters need to get some zen, and that is not making fun, that is serious.

NOT KID FRIENDLY. Have been to this restaurant many times and I tried going today with my husband, friend and our 4 month old who was sleeping peacefully in his stroller. As it was a Monday afternoon the place was barely half full and there were plenty of empty tables. The waitress who greeted us told us we could not take our stroller in the restaurant and that we had to leave it at the door because it "might" get busy. She was basically putting imaginary future customers ahead of us. I was not terribly impressed and hate to say that they have now lost a loyal customer. I think this restaurant has begun to get cocky and is seriously lacking in customer service. What if we were with someone in a wheelchair? Would they have asked us to leave the wheelchair at the door as well? I would have understood if the restaurant was packed on a Saturday afternoon but it was no where near full and there was room for us and the stroller, they just didn't want to accommodate that. Seriously disappointing. I will be telling all my other parent friends too.

Service can do better.. Waited way too long for a table. We witness another waitress give away a table to a group that was "before" us on the wait list even though we waited for almost an hour and the group they sat came and waited only 10 minutes. Food was good, except I wouldn't wait an hour for it. My suggestion is to go early in the morning and not during peak hours.

Delicious Sunday Brunch. Came here on a Sunday afternoon for some brunch - as expected there was a short wait at the door for a table, but I got a table for 2 almost immediately. We shared caesars (which are arguably some of the best on the Drive), and I ordered the Black Beans and Cheese Enchiladas in dark chocolate mole sauce. <br/><br/>The food, just like every time, was delicious and guilt-free. I come in feeling absolutely stuffed, but the food here is far from heavy and on the healthier-side. I come here often, and this is a long, long overdue review. <br/><br/>I love Bandidas and I'll always come back to this neighbourhood joint. I really recommend the caesars!

Supporting TEACHERS! Yay!. This AWESOME restaurant has offered to donate ALL of its profits on Wednesdays to the Teachers Hardship Fund! I've eaten there, but am making a special trip tonight WITH my family to support them in their support of us! Thank you!

Quality -- HIT OR MISS. Inconsistent quality. On good days, really good food. Other times we've been here, glumpy cold rice and cold beans, burnt cheese on enchiladas, burnt nachos. Please get your act together.

Rude rude rude. We had to leave as the noisy loud music and flippantly rude waitress killed our appetites before we even got a chance to look at the menu. We tried cancelling a drink order when we realized we didn't fit into the 25 year old mind set of the seriously hospitality challenged staff , but they refused to cancel the order and tried to bill us for it....go figure..we had to tell them to call the police if they wanted us to pay for it...I have seen more and more reviews about these chill waitresses and hostesses and it seems it comes from older travelled clients with expectations about general politeness and service ...perhaps this is a good place for young people only as our crowd .. 40 to 60 definitely was not welcomed...
Chelsea_hollister
Not sure what all the hype is about..... Everyone has been recommending this place, and I can honestly say it's not worth the wait or the money. Extremely bland, flavourless food. Sure you get a generous portion...unfortunately it's a generous portion of shite. Didn't even bother getting the leftovers to go. There are far better vegetarian restaurants in Vancouver.
Bow.motorcity.al8
Bandidas Taqueria is awful !!!!! really bad!!!. Very over priced for the disgusting things they serve that they call food!<br/>Bland , lazy and flavorless dishes<br/>I asked for a little thing of salsa on the side and they charged me 4 dollars <br/>The servers were unpleasant and unaccommodating!!!<br/>WORST FOOD I EVER HAD AT A RESTAURANT ____ DONT GO THERE!!!!!!!!
Isothecium
Decent. The service was decent. The portion was generous. The food tasted bland. <br/>The lack of meat was covered with good amount of avocado so that didn't bother me at all. <br/><br/>I ordered burrito and it came with too generous amount of stuffing that I felt like I was digging through the filling rather than eating a burrito.<br/><br/>The food was decent but was not memorable for me, In my opinion, "The Foundation" on Main St. serves more interesting South American style vegetarian flavour and menu.
ForTheLoveofFood
I can't rave about the food. It's fusion Mexican food but I think the food is quite bland. There are other great Mexican restaurants in the city and I chat understand why people line up to for this place. Check out the Indonesian restaurant beside it. Now that's worth checking out!
Anti_lab
Likes it. For good tacos and burritos. The setting is casual and it always seems busy. I also like the selection of different hot sauces and salsas.
Ryanstg
Absolute Yum!. Incredible tasting and creatively prepared vegetarian tacos. the food is absolutely scrumptious and as someone who used to be an complete carnivore, this is the best taco I've had since that feels like an authentic, yet very unique option! Their food is also very filling.<br/><br/>Well done!

Not quite as good as it used to be.... I'm a frequent customer at Bandidas. It's always full in there so I'm sure many others do the same. I'm sorry to say that my last two visits in August and September haven't been nearly as good as I found the food and service in the past. The food is usually very tasty and I would say is some of the best vegetarian in Vancouver, but the last few times I've gone my food has arrived cold and the filling the burritos is not spread out evenly (so you get mouthfuls of rice but nothing else). The poor service is really what has brought me to write this review. The last few times I have gone the staff that I have interacted with have been quite dismissive and sometimes completely rude. One time when I went for take-out I sat at the bar and watched my food sit in the window for 20 minutes. After 10 minutes I asked the bar tender if he could check if the order in the window belonged to me since nobody was doing anything with it and he said that he would ask one of the servers. It took another 10 minutes for someone to look at the ticket and hand it to me.

Dont let the vegetarian menu fool you! Im not sure how they make it but it is absolutely delicious! However where they are lacking is in the "service" department. Be prepared to wait because theyre slow most of the time. But go for the food! Yum

Not ideal for toddlers. First off, if you're not going with a toddler, the food here is great, and I have no complaints in that department. The rest of my review isn't a complaint per se, just wanted to give a heads up to other parents so they know what to expect. A big issue with Urbanspoon's "kid friendly" tag is that there's a big difference between a restaurant that's a good choice for a 2 month old, a 2 year old, and a 12 year old. I would say based on my experience that Bandidas would be great for kids starting at about age 5. But for ones younger than that, although they have high chairs and boosters, the place is very crowded and tables are tiny, which means keeping hot dishes etc away from a toddler or baby is difficult. They don't have to-go cups or plastic dishes of any kind, so it's hard to relax as your child is eating. The bathrooms are probably the biggest deal breaker, they are so tiny (not even a sink--there's a sink outside) that assisting a toddler at the potty is super awkward, and there's no changing table for ones in diapers. One extra tip, if you have a kid who is more adventurous than the plain Jane "kids' menu" but couldn't eat an entire adult entree, the tacos are a great option. I ate five and my two year old ate one (a Stella), plus she had about a third of the rice and beans that came with the combo.

Always busy....I can see why :). I've passed by this place and day after day and there is always a lineup. I decided one day to see what all the fuss is about and I can tell you now that I was not disappointed. Excellent service, great atmosphere, and great food at a good price. The wait is worth it.
Janice
OMG!!!! Amazing food, incredible prices, great staff and atmosphere, and best of all....you can taste the love in the food!!! Fantastic menu!
Salle Dint
Mexican?. The food is definitely creative & healthy, the atmosphere fun & casual, but I can't rave about the food being exceptionally tasty, and I certainly wouldn't classify it is being Mexican...
Kpsloves
Amazing!. I've been going to Bandidas at least once a month for the past year and have had nothing but fantastic food, drinks & service. My favourite dish is the Wolf & Goat burrito. If you get a burrito, don't be a cheap ass, pay the extra 1$ to get it baked...you won't regret it. As for drinks, their margaritas are authentic and delicious- specifically the lime! All in all the food is fresh, tasty and best of all, excellent value. They don't take reservations so you usually have a wait a bit for a table. I have no problem doing so, as it completely worth the wait.

Kudos from the Non-vegetarian. Went there for a lunch on Thursday with a friend and it was steadily busy and after I tried the food, I know why!<br/><br/>We started off with the Hibiscus Lemonade which was refreshingly tart with both the hibiscus and lemon flavour shining through and the right balance of sweetness. We were pleased to see real hibiscus flowers as a garnish. It was a fabulous drink for a hot sunny day. This came recommended over the homemade cola and the hibiscus ginger which I was considering.<br/><br/>I had the fajitas which were made with smoked tempeh and poblano chiles. It came with pinto beans and rice, purple cabbage, 4 corn tortillas, salsa and sour cream. Now I am not a vegetarian and sometimes I find veggie meals a little unsatisfying, but this was absolutely not the case at Bandidas. I've heard from my vegetarian friends that tempeh can be hit and miss, but this tempeh was super flavourful and I loved the natural smoky flavour mixed with the grilled poblanos. The jasmine flavour of the rice was a surprise but really worked well and was very fragrant. Sometimes I don't feel well after a vegetarian meal because of MSG or flavour enhancers have been used, and I did not get this feeling at all. I think I've convinced my husband to try Bandidas which is also saying a lot. I look forward to returning ... the enchiladas at the next table looked really tempting!

Nice Surprise. Good eats. Big portions for a good value. Tried and loved the tortilla soup and breakfast burrito. Worth paying a bit extra to get it baked.

Blandidas; cf. Pepper Sisters. The food is solid but bland. It is possible to make it both solid and flavourful. For example, they're doing a stellar job of this at Pepper Sisters in Bellingham, WA, serving vegetarian mex that pops with flavour. I hope the Bandidas folks will take a trip south of the border, steal a few of the secrets from Pepper Sisters, and bring them back here to spoil their patrons in Vancouver. http://www.peppersisters.com/

Love this place so much!. I have been here so many times in the past year, and have never been dissapointed. Everytime I have a friend or relative visiting the city I bring them here and they always love it too! I am yet to try something I like.<br/>The service is a little slow sometimes, but they are usually super busy so it is to be expected.

Wonderful Food. I've been here twice and both times have been wonderful! I had the Sophies Stuffed Poblano with side salad. It was wonderful. The Poblano was stuffed with Pinto beans and a sweet squash. Very well balanced flavours. The corn tortillas that are served along with the entree was tasty. This is by far my favourite vegetarian eatery. The food was served quickly and the service was great. The only thing I really disliked was the loud music. It was hard to hear my lunch companion over the loud music. I will definitely return!

I have Celiac disease and a dairy allergy, and the waitress didn't hear me correctly when I said no dairy, and brought me one with. She got really defensive when I brought up and told me that it was my fault for being unclear and said "whatever" when I thanked her. Food at bandidas is fantastic and I will still go back for that reason, but was really turned off by the hospitality
John Smith
Service was cool but food didn't have much flavour.
LovinVancouver
I didn't know this place didn't serve meat until I sat down. I love meat but I still gave it a try and it was the best breakfast ever. Eggs, cornbread, veggie sausage and so much more for $10. I going hippie.

Good!. My friends took me here yesterday for brunch, raving about how it's their favourite place to eat in the city. The wait was quite long, but there were five of us and it's not the biggest place. Once we were seated the service was very prompt. I was disappointed to not see chilaquiles on the menu :( but I got the huevos rancheras and it was really good! Although I LOVE refried beans, I wasn't a huge fan of their beans... the cabbage & yam 'hashbrowns' were really good though! I will definitely be going back next time I'm in Vancouver. Can you guys put chilaquiles on the menu, pretty please?!?! Haha
Phineaus Gage
Best place for brunch! The food and service are always spot on (we've been there 5 times). I tried the six taco plate which was awesome.... However I would like to see them expand beyond their basic ingredients (many plates seem like the same thing in different proportions... Though all are delicious). Recommend the Ronnie!
Bridgecityslicker
Healthy and nutritious, but bland. Ok, but service is meh. Nothing terribly wrong, but for the same price there are way more interesting places to eat.

Delicious Vegetarian Mexican. We liked this place a lot. The food was really good, the atmosphere was nice and the service was great. Highly recommended.
Angel
Disappointed with service. I've been to this place many times, always liked the food.<br/><br/>However, I was really disappointed last time I was there. We ordered our food and I wanted a meal (comes with rice and beans), when the food came out, the rice and beans weren't included. I mentioned to the server who brought out the food (different from the one that took our order) that I ordered a meal and she confirmed and said she would bring it out right away. I waited to eat my food, but the rice and beans never came.<br/><br/>A third server came up to us to bring the bill and we mentioned we never received the rice and beans. There was no apology, he just mentioned he was going to take it off the bill. When I went to the bar to mention that I was disappointed, still no apology, just a nod.<br/><br/>I know things can go wrong, which is understandable, but someone could have at least apologized for screwing up...
Miche
A New Favorite!. The menu is amazing, and they can make all their dishes into a vegan options (using daiya cheese). I had their walnut and apple salsa burrito with avocado and baked in mole sauce- EXCELLENT! And so many other yummy looking options to choose from, I can't wait to go back!
Kelsey Bee
I'm not a vegetarian. I love meat. Normally I feel like veggie plates are lacking but the food here is amazing. It doesn't even NEED the meat. The tacos are wonderful. The yams and sweet potatoes are delicious. Last time I had a breakfast plate with eggs, beans, cabbage salad, cornbread, guac and sweet potatoes, and it was lovely. The Horchata white Russian was pretty great too! It's a bit crowded and hipster-y but the price is good and it's a great date restaurant. My server Hollis was a Rockstar! Loved it :)
Steven Ewing
My name may not say it but I have veg burbs too. Packed at lunch. <br/><br/>No smiles from floor staff although kitchen looked happy.<br/><br/>I would have been happier if they found the salt.<br/><br/>The taco with walnuts had nice texture everything else was bland and lacking in texture. <br/><br/>I won't be back
John Smith
Bad breakfast burrito. What I love about mexican is it can be a mix of richness of avocado and cheese, cut with the freshness crunchy of tomatoes, lettuce, cilantro, and onions and the bite of lime, and hot sauce. My veggie breakfast burrito at Bandidas had none of that. <br/><br/>The burrito consisted of eggs, and some sort of "mush" of beans or lentils or something, overripe tomatoes. <br/>Because all of the elements were bland, and approximately the same texture and consistency, there was absolutely no flavour profile to it, it was like eating a tortilla full of oatmeal. There was no noticeable seasoning whatsoever! <br/><br/>In Bandidas defence I have not tried anything else there except corn muffins (which were also lousy) but I don't think I would ever go there again.
Marty
Great margaritas ... average food they overfill most of their dishes with bland beans
SMG
Great Food. Honestly, this was the best burrito I've had since I moved to Vancouver. It's by no means traditional Mexican food, but it's damn tasty. Beer selection is pretty decent, and the margaritas are properly done. Despite our server being horrendously unfriendly and basically snarling at us, I'll definitely be returning.
Edith
DISLIKE. The food is alright. but like WHAT THE HECK WAS THE SERVICE? i went with my bf and we were the only Asians there .we got seated AND then THEY JUST IGNORED US AND IGNORED US. NOBODY was taking our order for 10 mins when we were sitting there. NOBODY ATTENDED TO US. they acted as if they didnt see us and when he finally came he DIDNT SMILE AND GAVE US ATTITUDE as if we werent welcomed to be there. then our food came. and as i was eating, i see OUR SERVER walking around asking everyone how their meal was, AND NEVER NEVER I REPEAT NEVER ASKED MY TABLE HOW EVERYTHING WAS. i felt like i was being singled out even though we order a $30 meal. LIKE C'MON! <br/><br/>i would definitely not come back here. i dont think i deserved this kind of service that i was paying for.
Moira A
Everything about this place is great. Healthy, delicious, cool decor, friendly staff, tasty drinks, and dirt cheap. There is seriously nothing not to like, except maybe the length of time you'll have to wait for a table. I hope to be back at least once a month!
Half Pint
You have to try it. One of the best Mexican restaurants in Vancouver, if not, the best! Their salads are incredible, awesome prices on food & drinks. They also play great music!
Ooo
Cheese. Is not a spice.

Must try. What a find! The only problem with this place is that it's 900 miles from home. I eat at a lot of mexican places in California and this tops them all. Creative, but well balanced tacos; love the mix and match feature on the menu as there are too many interesting options and this feature helps move through a few. <br/>Will definitely return at first opportunity.
Sav
One of the best vegitarian restaurant in vancouver!

Beans, rice, cheese and lettuce with flour tortilla or rice, cheese, cabbage and corn tortilla? Red cabbage or green? Burrito or enchilada? The menu is just variations of the same thing. Bor-ing!

Good food, sub par service. Be warned this is a vegetarian restaurant and it is not a great value for the price.
