Review Peaked Pies - Vancouver

Crispy pies filled with amazing goodness! The peaked mash, peas and gravy complete the meal so definitely worth the add on. The desserts are delicious as well.

These pies are amazing and very filling. Got the Traditional Aussie. Highly recommend adding the 'peak' which is mash potatoes, mashed green peas and gravy. their breakfast combo is a good deal if you're there by 11am, the Ned Kelly is meaty with an egg and you get to choose any specialty coffee.

I’ve lived in the UK in the past and so I’ve had my fair share and I must say peaked pies’ were great. Definitely should try, truly unique in Canada. I want to give 1 star for the service but I won’t penalize the shop because of the great food, especially addition of mushy peas!!! Regarding the service, absolutely rude and emotionless waitress. We’ve come to expect friendlier service in Canada and being helpful about menu choices, especially if someone hasn’t tried something. 0 service!l, great food. Will visit again, hopefully someone else’s shift. 5 star for the food.

Aussie Pies peaked with creamy mashed potatoes and peas got me dreaming of summers back in Australia. Ordered the Guinness steak and traditional Aussie pies, both peaked and they were really fantastic. Inexpensive too. Must try this if you are in for a quick bite in the area.

They must have a really hot oven to bake all that crispy, flaky golden brown goodness. I came here towards the end of a day food-hopping, and unfortunately didn't quite have room for the full peaked pie experience. Would definitely like to return to try their pies. On this particular visit, I just tried one of their sausage rolls. The pastry was flaky and crisp, and filling was generous. I will definitely put it on my return list to try a sweet and a savoury pie for next visit. I appreciated how they still had a full selection of hot pies even though I visited later in the day. I also appreciated how they had ample hand sanitizing stations around their cashier area -- key during current times.

Known for its meat pies, pastries, long black coffee, and Australian vibes... If you're in the area in the morning, drop by for a breakfast pie + a long black coffee ($8.95 for the combo!). I dropped by in the PM and tried their cinnamon rolls (took the last one 😋) and almost bit my fingers was soon good. The staff was super friendly. They also have $5 pints of beer between 2pm and 6pm, and free wifi.

For may years this was a place I took out-of-town guests after an early morning walk in Stanley park. The pies were always delicious and they have a great breakfast combo that is well priced. Unfortunately over the past few months, the pies are really "well-done", as in , the crusts are now bordering on burnt. After a few disappointing visits I mentioned it and was told that "some people prefer it that way." Ok, but what about the rest of us? I'm not a fan of burnt so I won't be returning.

I really enjoyed the pepper steak with mash potatoes and peas. I wish the pies themselves were heated as well and not just the toppings. 🤷🏼

Hello everyone, here is another restaurant food review and this time my significant other was the one suggested to check out Peaked Pies located in Downtown Vancouver on Denman Street visited on April 7, 2019. This location is a second location other than their original location located up on Whistler, BC. As we walked in to the restaurant the ambiance is nice, the restaurant setting is a cafe setting and great lighting and restaurant look very clean.

This was a first visit for the both of us so we liked decided to order to separate entree dishes. My significant other ordered Traditional Aussie Pie with “Get Peaked” add on which is mashed potatoes, mushy green peas and some gravy. I ordered Chunky Steak and Mushroom Pie with “Get Peaked” add on as well. We both were parched as well so we both chose Steaz Organic Iced Green Tea ( Peach ) and Iced Green Tea Beverage ( Blueberry Pomegranate ).

About ten minutes shortly after our pies was ready at their counter and my significant other went to the counter and pick up our food and brought it to our table. I love the first bite out of the pie i ordered, the steak and mushroom was very delicious along with the gravy sauce dripping onto my pie. The mash potatoes definitely added a smooth texture and flavour to the pie itself, as for the green peas I am not a fan of peas in general but it was seasoned well. Having the sip of the Steaz Organic Ice Green Tea ( Peach ) definitely allowed me to clean my palet for upcoming bites from my pie.

Overall, I rate this cafe restaurant a 4.5 stars out of 5 stars. The customer service was alright not a huge expectations from that as it is a cafe restaurant settings but as for the food itself I have to say it was very delicious by the end of my last bite I was very full as the portion control of the dish itself was quite large. If you are not too hungry, I definitely suggest sharing a plate of their pie rather than buying a single portion for yourself.

foodieyvrjasmine604.wordpress.com/2019/04/07/peaked-pies-australian-bakery-cafe-visited-on-april-7-2019/

Phone:

778-379-5612

Address:

975 Denman Street

Vancouver, BC

V6G 1M9

Passed by and decided to give it a try. Pies cost about $9-11 each but they were so flaky and packed with filling in each. We had the chicken pie and a steak pie and both were flavourful. We added some mashed potatoes but that was a bit bland and dry. I would recommend skipping that since the pie portions were already generous enough.
Coffee was very good. Flat white was hot and freshly brewed.
I also love the decor of the cafe, full of warm wood and bright windows for natural lighting. So relaxing to meet for lunch with a friend here or to go enjoy a coffee with a book. Great experience, hope to visit again soon!

Evidently in Australia they are fond of their meat pies and sometimes enjoy them peaked. We did too! Peaked means the addition of mashed potatoes, mushy peas and gravy to the top of any of their meat pies. So we tried the Traditional Aussie, namely ground beef, onions and gravy in a pot pie type crust and it was quite good. Meaty and rich, with a crust that was flaky and did its job admirably. I don't think you could ask for it to be more tender or flaky and still hold this thing together. The peak itself, was somewhat meh. Both the potatoes and peas needed salt and could have been warmer although the gravy made up for that being again, rich and meaty. One of the fillings available is Kangaroo. We tried this, but got it to go. In transit it became more of a meat pancake but I did salvage enough to give you a view. Looks like ground beef and kind of tastes like ground beef but maybe a little gamier and stronger. I thought it was very good and I guess you could not get any more Australian. There are many interesting savoury filling choices here and some sweet as well. Not bad! Peaked Pies also serves Australian style coffees and deserts including Flat Whites (we tasted and enjoyed this at The Drive Coffee Bar a couple of weeks ago). Today, we had a latte which was pretty much what you would expect and not uniquely Australian. Quick and convenient you order at the counter and pick it up there also. Nice folks and a pleasant atmosphere in which to enjoy a taste of Australia!

Peaked Pies is an Australian bakery and it’s a must visit for locals and tourists alike. Traditional Australian pies are savoury with a type of meat filling served with gravy. At Peaked Pies, they make them from scratch daily offering a range of sweet and savoury pies as well as Australian coffee and desserts! Their flagship store is located in Whistler, but they recently opened one up on Denman Street in Vancouver downtown. Their specialty pie is the “Peaked Pie” which consists of any pie with mashed potato, a scoop of mushy peas and smothered in gravy.

Had the steak, bacon and cheese pie with mushy peas and potatoes on top!!! Exceptional! The staff are really friendly and it’s great value for the money spent.

This is a bakery located on Denman, near English Bay, specializing in pies and popular Australian desserts. During my visit there, I had their Ned Kelly pie, Salted Caramel Tart, Lamington, and Vanilla Slice. While I was not the biggest fan of their vanilla slice, the pie was pretty good, and I really liked their lamington and tart. The staff were also very friendly and cheerful. I think that this shop is definitely worth checking out.

Ned Kelly ($6.75):
3/5
This pie contained ground beef that's topped with an egg and cheddar cheese. I was not the biggest fan of the pie crust: I found it to be a bit tough and flavourless. The cheese also did not add much to the dish, and was dry without much flavour. However, I did really enjoy the beef filling, which was tender, juicy and very flavourful, and came in a generous amount.

Salted Caramel Tart ($3.95):
4/5
This consisted of a shortbread crust that was filled with caramel and a drizzle of chocolate. The crust was quite tender and cut easily. The caramel was very thick, gooey, and had a wonderful fragrance, while the salt provided a really nice contrast to the sweetness of the filling.

Lamington ($3.95):
4/5
This was a cake that was coated in chocolate and shredded coconuts. The cake itself was quite tender and moist. The chocolate and coconuts provided great flavour and fragrance. This was just a simple, homestyle dessert that's done well.

Vanilla Slice ($4.25):
2.5/5
This consisted of two layers of pastry sandwiching vanilla custard and topped with pink icing. I did not care too much for the pastry, which had gone soft and doughy due to the filling, and was very difficult to cut through. The custard was quite thick, and a little bland and gummy, but still enjoyable. The icing was a bit overly sweet on its own, but tasted fine when paired with the custard.

Summary:
Food: 3.5/5
Price: 4/5
Service: N/A
Overall: 3.5/5
Recommendations: Lamington, Salted Caramel Tart

This has become a regular spot for me! Amazing pies, desserts and coffees! Service is always excellent! My favorite pie is the hopper, it is real kangaroo!

Peaked Pies is basically two components: A hand-holdable pie + topping. The topping is the "Peaked" gimmick and I'd treat it as such for your money's worth. Peak-ing a pie (up to +$3.50). You basically get mashed potato, mushy green peas, and gravy if you go for the full "Peak" treatment, but you can also get these components separately.

I ordered the chicken apple brie pie. The overall presentation of the peaked pie is good., however I felt that at times, the flavor of mashed peas overpowered the actual pie itself. Will probably give it a try again minus the mashed peas.

I am not very experienced with Australian food, but am very fascinated with Aussie pies. After a couple of months of passing by this cool spot, I finally ate this weekend. Started off with Traditional Beef and Kangaroo meat peaked pies (pies topped with peas, mash potatoes and gravy) and I was a fan right away. Paired that with their freshly baked Anzac cookies, and you won't find a better meal. I was such a fan by the end of the whole experience, that I bought 4 different frozen pies to bring home and consume for laters. Also while you're at it, do try Bundaberg drinks, especially the Lemon Lime & Bitters. It's the best friggin' soda/brewed drink you'll ever find.

Absolutely disappointing!!! Needed salt, beef was less than tender, soggy/floppy pastry, barely warm when served to eat in- tepid, peas undercooked... haven't been at Whistler location for a while but I kinda remember it being sooo much better than this. Not rushing back here any time soon.

Delicious, flavorful pies; my wife and I got one each and both were amazing. We didn't get them peaked, however, since we weren't very hungry.

Let me tell you, I've been staring at their pies on their website for about 6 days. The wait was well worth it especially for someone who's never had pie in the morning. . Location: Peaked Pies - 975 Denman Street Vancouver. Meal: Ned Kelly, Rise and Shine, and Apple Crumble. Atmosphere: Small place but plenty of seating. Love the hanging lights and bar seating near the window.

Whenever I go to Whistler, I always ALWAYS visit the Australian pie company called “Peaked Pies” located near Splitz Grill and Elements (great brunch place) for their meat pies. About two years ago, I wrote a blog post on the Whistler location which you can see here. I think a picture is worth a thousand words so I really don’t need to tell you how delicious this tasted, and how it reminded me of shepherds pie, except better because of the mushy pies and pie crust. If you are ever in the Denman/ downtown Vancouver area, I would HIGHLY recommend checking this place out. Especially since you don’t have to venture out to Whistler to get a taste of this Aussie deliciousness!

Tried it in Whistler once, really love it. Glad to have them in town now in Vancouver. Ordered the traditional Aussie pie, peaked with mashed potato, mushy peas and gravy. Made me happy on this cold winter day. :-)

Folks, the wait is over. Whistler’s beloved Australian-style meat pie eatery, Peaked Pies, is now open at 995 Denman Street in Vancouver. The grand opening of Peaked Pies Vancouver happened yesterday with much anticipation from people who have indulged in their delicious pies in Whistler. Having visited them before (see review here), I had been looking forward to them opening right here in my neighbourhood, the West End. Today, I went in for a late lunch to enjoy some of their famous peaked pies.
Vancouver Barista
This Sunday morning's much-touted opening of Whistler-based Peaked Pies - their first Vancouver location - is mercilessly packed with customers. We wonder at the lineup expanding, door swinging open and shut. Which just goes to show, word of new eateries spreads fast with foodies in the West End.
Peaked Pies' success comes from their Aussie emphasis on authentic, handmade meat pies and espresso. This interesting concept came from co-owners Keri (hailing from Down Under) and Alex (a Whistler resident) who fell in love, literally, over a pastry that he baked for his pie-homesick girlfriend.
