Tremendous meal. Went with an appetizer of seared scallops with pork belly - the scallops were perfectly prepared and the pork belly was delicious. Main course of Lamb Wellington was likewise delicious, combined with the sweet potatoes puree on the plate. Dessert was a Sticky Toffee Pudding, with poached pears and vanilla ice cream; again, perfectly executed. Service was also very efficient. Highly recommend this place.
Very nice restaurant, with great service. Fancy, low lighting with candles at the tables. Not what I expected from the name, but was pleasantly surprised. Ordered the steak which was cooked to perfection, definitely the best steak I have ever had. Ordered a great cider too, and their homemade caramel ice cream was amazing. Highly recommended, enjoy!
Fantastic place for an incredible dinner. The service at chives is the best in the city. The servers know the menu and offer fabulous suggestions. It's a very unique place and the decor is beautiful. They have a great drink menu. If you're in town this is a great place for a great meal, good selection of fish dishes.
My husband and I have been here a couple times, both were in a private room for different celebrations. Service is top notch, super professional and friendly. Excellent spot for a special quiet meal. The food is super delicious and satisfying. Definitely recommend and will return!
This was an amazing birthday dinner! I had the pumpkin soup as an appetizer and the short ribs as the main course. Both were fantastic! My wife had the pappardelle pasta which was the pasta of the day. It was excellent. Our service was Johnny-Lynn. She was an excellent server. She was professional, knew the menu, and very nice to interact with. We were very impressed with Chives. We will return. Thank you for a wonderful evening.
Great place and great food.
I have eaten here a number of times. They have gone out of their way to accommodate any allergy issues. Every time they have been very attentive to the allergy request. The servers have always been knowledgeable about the food and ingredients. The water and wine are always refilled promptly.
I can't think of anything they could have done better. It was a pleasure to dine here.

Amazing restaurant. I would revisit in a heartbeat. I ordered the pork belly as my appetizer. It was rich, flavourful, and so succulent. I've never had such amazingly prepared pork belly before. Absolutely exquisite. The duck was juicy, and the roasted vegetables had such a wonderful aroma. I chose to complement it with a sis of butternut squash risotto. I've become a bit of a risotto snob since I couldn't find a restaurant in Halifax that made it as good as I do myself until tonight. Chives blew me away. 5/5. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Food was great, all of it was local and seasonal. There were also limited amounts so if there is something specific you want, don't show up too late.
Meal starts with some nice biscuits and molasses which were surprisingly great (I hadn't had molasses on a biscuit before).

The food was quite delicious. But honestly, the service was just plain bad. Very blunt/abrupt, definitely wasn't a warm service. Mixed up dietary restricted plates, and didn't fix/apologize for the mistake.
The vibes of the restaurant felt dated/off. The meal felt out of place in the restaurant.
Will try again, hoping for better service.
The food was excellent, as expected for a restaurant with such a good reputation. The service was even better. Our waiter was attentive, helpful, and offered us some tips on local vineyards and other restaurants to try. I look forward to returning the next time I'm in Halifax.
The lamb dish here was served to perfection. On top of an absolutely sumptuous minted pea risotto and falling off the bone, I was so very happy to have come to this restaurant to eat it. The rest of our party were equally delighted with their food, and I would recommend this place to anyone seeking fine cuisine. The bumpkin-esque guy that seated us wasn't too thrilled that we had a baby, but we totally didn't care and sat down anyway. I'm glad we did.
