Spicy noodle salad with prawns is my absolute favourite meal at I Kyu.
Best place in victoria for noodles. Coconut chicken is the bomb!
My wife affectionately refers to this place as her "favourite noodle place". I believe all the noodles are homemade and they also sell them to cook with. The spicy shanghai wontons are incredible, spicy and soft with a lot of kick and excellent flavour. Dan dan mein is quite good with great seasoned meat. I must admit I have been looking for great tan tan / dan dan in Victoria to compare to some I had in Vancouver and while I haven't yet found it, I must say that I Kyu gives it a tasteful interpretation and I would order it again. The ramen is somewhat plain but they do not especially specialize in ramen. I am saddened to see that they have received a number of negative reviews critical of the flavour, I wonder if they tended to order milder dishes (which I have not tried) or if I've been lucky with menu choices, or if their palate did not mesh well with some of the seasoning choices. I find that there is a subtle pepperiness to everything which I quite enjoy, along with a hint of chili oil, reminding me of dishes from a couple Vancouver sichuan restaurants. This place is also odd, it has a relatively small menu but the dishes are definitely not cookie-cutter Chinese food. I must say that the guy who runs the place is very friendly and the one young girl who tends to be on staff as a server is very hard-working. It's a nice little place to stop in, rarely too busy, and I have been here a couple times over the span of my time in Victoria. I hope the best for htem.
Very good hand made noodles. Every bite is al dente.
One of the best ramen in town! The broth is an elixir of flavors.
My favourite is the spicy shrimp noodle salad though.
Horsing Around Victoria
+4
Horsing Around is happy to announce our new Weekly Shout Out column where we will inform you, gentle readers, of anything new and noteworthy we stumbled upon in our weekly wanderings. Shout Out will be a sort homage to the “what is making us happy this week” segment on our favourite podcast, NPR’s Pop Culture Happy Hour (well worth a listen if you love witty, intelligent discourse on all things pop culture).
We did take out from this place because we wanted a quick bite and the sign on the outside of the shop said that they have handmade noodles! We got 2 appetizers: an order of gyoza (6 pieces) and an order of the spicy shrimp and pork wonton (8 pieces on a bed of bean sprouts). They said it would take 13 minutes to prep the order and sure enough, 12 minutes later, we walked out with our order. The dumplings were delicious. The gyoza were incredibly juicy inside (eat them whole because otherwise the juice will squirt out and escape - a waste!). The spicy wonton had a nice kick and complemented the bean sprouts well.
Wonderful won ton. Very good noodles and won tons. Small space but service is good. Don't mind the dated decor, the food is always good.
I like it. Healthy Food(no msg). Good customer service. Decent Price. I Would definitely go back again.
This restaurant was delicious. And filthy. If you are nervous about cleanliness, don't eat here, but the food was totally worth the less that desirable ambiance. I had coconut chicken ramen and my boyfriend had miso ramen. Both excellent but such huge portions we could have shared one.
Best restaurant in Chinatown BY FAR. I've been coming to I Kyu Noodles for a couple years now, and have yet to be disappointed. Hand-made noodles, exceptional flavors, fresh ingredients and a chef who loves to come out and have a chat every now and then.. how can you go wrong?
The Spicy Shrimp Noodle Salad (my husband refuses to order anything else - he's been going through withdrawals ever since we moved away) is packed full of fresh veggies, juicy shrimp and a spicy sauce that is to die for, and leaves you feeling wonderfully satisfied and thinking about when you're going to be hungry next so that you can come have some more.
The Coconut Shrimp Noodle, being my personal favorite, is so light and yet ridiculously tasty. I could just drink the broth on its own. (aaaand I do..)
Please don't miss an opportunity to try this place, you won't regret it.
YUMTASTIC!!!. I kept hearing about how good this place is so my boyfriend and | went for lunch. Great service! We had the dishes our server recommended as the popular items.
Coconut Chicken Soup was SO flavorful and not heavy/thick like some coconut dishes can be.
Dan Dan was also kick ass. The texture and flavor of the fresh noodles is wonderful.
I eat healthy and my boyfriend does not. This was a great place for both of us to have delicious food.
I will be going back again for sure!
Amazingly delicious!. Just drop by and try it! It will never disappoint you!
Really good Shanghai noodles with ground pork I mean really good noodles. I mean really good broth I mean really good noodles and broth I mean all of it was good. I mean the vegetables were good as well I mean the broth was good I mean I really enjoyed that bowl of soup. Oh my gosh that was a really good bowl of soup.
Spring rolls were crispy and served piping hot, just how I like it. Need to try more of this menu.
First time here. Looks like a hole in the wall, which is often a good thing.
Had the BBQ Pork Wonton soup. Decent flavour and a good size portion. Next time I’ll ask for a bit of chili sauce on the side to mix in and give it a kick.
Also liked that the tea is included as part of your meal.
Need to come back again and try their other dishes.
I love this little gem in town, I can get my favorite childhood dish, the pork belly and rice and for full experience I added a soy sauce cooked egg. Very simple and so yummy like the place itself, simple decoration, friendly staff, daily specials. What is outstanding about this place is that they make everything from scratch, dumplings, noodles, the broth is unique too, that means to me that these chefs are really in love with what they offer. And that love shines through in the food, delicate, delicious. I’m grateful they are around, I’m definitely gonna come back and try more.
Travel in Victoria, That’s the best Mandarin style noodle house I have! Much better than same style restaurants in Vancouver . Love it ! Will be back!
Amazing noodle house in Victoria Chinatown. Service is quick and efficient & servers were extremely nice
Got the Beef Brisket Wonton/Dumpling noodle soup. Portions are very generous for the price, noodles and broth was very tasty!
Will definitely recommend 👍
The food at this restaurant is more authentic than other Asian fusion restaurants. My husband ordered the kim chi vegetarian noodle. It was quite tasty. I ordered hot noodle with sesame paste. Delicious. The cucumber cold dish is quite delicious too.
Hope they can develop more vegetarian friendly dishes in the future. Very friendly service for a quick and emotionally fulfilling lunch.
The freaking BEST wonton soup - not to mention the tea that comes with it is awesome. Wor wt soup hits so hard it’s just delicious from start to finish. If you’re extra hungry I suggest getting it with noodles. Cool little aquarium and the staff is very nice.
It's a cramped little place (it was lunchtime), but my sister and I enjoyed it. We didn't have to wait long for our food and service was great. The prices were good, too 👍🏾. I would recommend this restaurant 😋.
The Wor Wonton was delicious. Hands down the best I've ever had. Nice and clean place to eat and the waitress was a gem too! If you are ever in the area be sure to stop by and enjoy! Greetings from the USA!
Brisket noodle dish was delicious. Wonton soup also good. Ask for chili sauce to spice it up.
Came back for the wonton soup it was also good. Service a bit slower however.
