I grew up eating Vietnamese sub sandwiches from Bale! They have been around for a very long time now. I usually get the cold cut sub. They also sell Vietnamese meat pate by the jar, which they put in the sandwiches as well. The price is very reasonable and the subs always taste fresh.
The building where Ba Le Sandwich Shop once stood is no longer there, a victim of the mass “gentrification” of the area. They’re making way for more condos and more development. And more hipster coffee shops. But this “old” community is resilient, including those who aren’t even Chinese, as is the case with this Vietnamese sandwich shop.
Best viet subs, all super cheap and fast. I always get the cold cut and add some sriracha when I get home...living across the street makes this one super convenient for me.
Lunch under $5 is a very rare thing in Vancouver; and I had to try this. I'm a big guy so I picked up a Shredded Chicken and a Vietnamese Bacon. Both have some great veggies and flavours on this really good bread. For $3.50 I don't think I'd find a cheaper lunch in Vancouver, as one sandwich was almost filling enough, and it's well above the quality of anything that *would* be $3.50. Great little hole in the wall will be going back in the future.
Crazy value, fresh ingredients for a bargain. Fresh baguettes are beautiful. Lemongrass chicken sandwich was so flavourful, topped with cilantro and pickled veggies. Grab and go drinks and desserts.
One of my favourite places to get a banh mi. It is one of the cheaper banh mi, you will find in Van. I always get the coldcut, bread is always fresh and crispy and everything goes well together. As well as the jalapenos give it a nice kick but you can order it without jalapenos if you can't handle spicy!
One of the smaller stores in chinatown and it can be easily missed if you're not really paying attention, and so came here for lunch. the place felt like the old school Ordered 2 sandwhich since i'm a big eater and I also ordered a few desert like some sort of yogurt/milk, with tapioca.
had the grilled chicken with everything all the toppings that are available, and also ham if i'm not mistaken, overall i love the taste of the food, for $4 for a sub the taste is definitely great in my opinion. and the desert! there are quite a few variety, and each are around $1.5 dollars if i'm not mistaken and the desert are reminds me of those southeast asian sweet desert, and yes it taste good!
Overall i would say that the food is great, and the price is great, and desert, really really recommend it,
I was down in Chinatown doing some errands when I suddenly had a Viet Sub craving. I headed down Main street to Ba Le which I’ve been to a couple of times in the past. One thing that worried me was that the building I had known to house Ba Le appeared to be was all boarded up. I kept telling myself that I was looking at the wrong building and Ba Le was further south on Main. Luckily, while looking around, I saw Ba Le simply moved directly across the street in a newer location along side a bunch of discount hair dressers.
Awsome lunch to go. My girlfriend had gotten me lunch from here and it's delicious. Had a pork banh mi and a dessert cup. Gorgeous. Parking is easy
I think it's better than the kingsway location. I haven't had them side by side but I think the main street subs are better than the kingsway and Fraser location. Maybe because you can see the lady make them exactly the same way every time where as the kingsway one has a random mix of people working every time im in. The main one is fast! and about no English menu you can see a picture of them that's all you need. The kingsway location can take up to 20 min to get a sandwich so of your headed down into Chinatown stick to that location.
