Their grilled cheese is, by far, the best I have ever tasted. Plus, they include a pickle to go with it, which makes it even more awesome!
At Beyond Bread, I sink my teeth into a sacristain. If you haven’t tried, it’s an absurdly long twisty pastry – about as long as my forearm – deliciously dusted with icing sugar. Oddly resembling a knotty branch, or maybe a wizard’s gnarled wand.
On Stop 117 of our Search for Vancouver’s Best Coffee, there is something peculiarly magical about Beyond Bread. Although they’ve been a fixture in Kits (at Alma and West 4th Ave) for several years, we kick ourselves for discovering this local gem only recently.
I am head over heels in love with bread. The process of making it, watching it bake in the oven, and of course eating it. Beyond Bread has become one of my favorite recipes after trying a loaf of their bread at a potluck I went to. What makes them a unique bakery is that they use their signature sourdough starter in all their loaves creating a depth of flavor unlike any other loaf you’ve had before.
