I’ve been here several times over the years. The food is consistent, curries are pretty good. The Thai options don’t taste especially Thai, maybe more generic Asian. Seems to have gotten significantly more expensive with time but that might just be due to Steveston’s popularity as a tourist destination.

Grayson and I went to Steveston looking for a restaurant our friend recommended but being the directionally challenged people we are, we ended up walking in circles for 15 minutes. By that time we were too hungry to keep looking so we decided to just look for a place to eat. We stumbled upon Kari House which was a Malaysian restaurant that was hiding in a corner by the docks.
Kari House serves up tasty Malaysian food at decent prices in the Steveston area.
The service was kind of slow when we were there. The appetizers took around 15 - 20 minutes to arrive at the table and the entrees took roughly the same amount.
The food came in sizable portions and with the right level of spiciness. For the uninitiated to Malaysian cusine, some dishes are oily due to the sauces used.
The prices are great - each dish sits around $10-$15. What's great is that there are 'upgrade' options. You can choose to add different types of proteins at a little bit extra.
Great experience at Kari House and we will be sure to visit again!
Nice and Spicy Foods From Southeast Asia. This is another place that is family run. This is a Chinese Malaysian Family that is cooking all the tasty food. Kari House is know for their curry dishs. I love the Yellow or Red curry dishes. The Chicken Curry is very good here. Just like the Xyclo Vietnamese Restaurant, their curry dish is excellent, but to some people it might be very hot.
People in Southeast Asia and South Asia like spicy food. This is not a fast food place, but their services are good and the food come out fast. This place is near the river, so the view is not bad. It is the only Malaysia Restaurant in the Steveston Fishing Village Area.
It is walking distance from the bus stops in Steveston and Parking is not that good. Their are too many people who like to drive in to Steveston.
Nice Malaysian restaurant.. Definitely a good location with a view and you can sit outside on a nice sunny day like today!
Had Nasi Goreng, kinda spicy fried rice which tasted good and sizable portion.
Singaporean Seafood Laksa, I definitely felt the spicy from the soup which I love the coconut flavoring and the two different kinds of noodles underneath all the seafood!
And for dessert I had a scoop of coconut ice cream which is a nice way to end an awesome meal. Will look forward to my next visit! ^_^
Wonderful. We took my mother here for a very long wonderful dinner. We enjoyed 3 appetizers that we all shared. Then we had two "main" dishes with two kinds of rice AND desert. We loved the small, quaint and quiet environment. We noticed that the restaurant was also doing many 'take-out" orders. The food was very fresh and very flavorful. My mother is quite particular and when I phoned her recently she was expressing her desire to return to this restaurant. Wow. For me, I wish to say that the Satay was the best that I have ever had.
Kari House Restaurant is one of my favorites. The food is fantastic, very authentic, good value and overall really yummy. Ironically my favorite thing isn't on the menu, it is the Ginger soup that comes with the lunch special. It is to die for. Another perk about Kari house is their patio which is a nice touch. it is a family run business, I love their little daughter who sometimes is the hostess. Once when she was really tiny she refused to give my mom a menu. Such a cute moment :) One suggestion I have is to go with a group and share multiple entrees. That way everyone gets a taste of everything but you don't get overstuffed. (large portions) I highly recommend going to Kari House!
Great hidden gem, authentic Malaysian food!. It's a small little restaurant hidden right at the heart of Steveston village.
They have a large selection, and with many of the famous Malaysian dishes.
I loved their fried tofu, and the super crispy roti canai (which is the closest to the ones from Malaysia from all the other ones that I have tried so far!).
I don't really eat too spicy... but I actually did finish their Laksa noodles all by myself. The price is alright too, for the great taste!
Only thing is, I hope they open in the afternoon, and have longer evenings. They close by 8:30pm......
The roti canai is the bomb here! It is authentic and easily the top 3 roti I have tried in my life. They also serve a very decent laksa. I love how it is not too creamy and heavy, but would appreciate for the prawn paste flavour to come out a bit stronger. The assam laksa was also good but was quite sharp and there could be more flaked mackerels (i.e similar to the authentic version) Service was warm and efficient.
Great service, reasonable prices and clean restaurant but the food wasn’t as good as I excepted. Tom yum Kung soup too sour n the lemongrass chopped too small, can’t avoid not to eat it when u drink the soup. Pad Thai noodles wasn’t taste good either.
But I do want to go back n try different food next time.
Such wonderful Malaysian cuisine! We took our granddaughter for her birthday lunch, before wandering along the Steveston riverfront. All our meals were excellent. Granddaughter proclaimed the orange chicken as one of the best. Service was very good. The photo is the view of the Fraser River from outside deck.
A nice little family restaurant. The food is good. The special lunch menu has a good variety of choices and reasonable price too. The chicken satay is so good.
Very delicious food and reasonable prices. The lunch menu had a nice variety of rice, curry, and noodle dishes. Sizes were perfect for your mid day meal and werent large enough to stuff you, but left you feeling satisfied and content. The ginger soup that came with the meal was a nice touch and, even though it didn't look like much, packed a lot of flavor!

I came here on my birthday, such a wonderful restaurant, friendly and helpful staff. The location is PRIME by the waterfront overlooking the marsh and marina in a quiet area, I ordered mee Goreng and Kari Massaman curry dish both with beef and I am so pleased with the flavor! I would definitely recommend this restaurant to everybody I know.
