Let me just begin by saying that this place isn’t for everyone – if you have not already spoiled your taste palette with all the MSG-filled foods by going to other ramen place then would find Jyuban Ramen House the place for you. I have read a few reviews that the ramen here are tasteless and bland but I would have to disagree. Like I had mentioned earlier, one would find the ramen and broth here to be deliciously-satisfying only if your taste buds have not be spoiled! In terms of service – I have been here countless times and not once have I had a problem with their service. The hosts are quite attentive, friendly and are extremely knowledgeable with regards to the menu items.
Here are my favourite items that I would strongly recommend:
Appetizer – I suggest the grilled ox-tongue
Ramen – Tonkotsu Cha Siu Ramen (get it with spinach ramen)
Don – Pork Belly Don
If you want to give healthy and MSG-free ramen a shot - come here.
My friends and I enjoyed our visit to this yet, another ramen restaurant in the GTA. For the portion they serve, the price is decent. (They give you a lot of food in that small looking bowl!) The meat is a good giant cut and very tender. The chef is really selective on the cut of meat that he puts into a dish. I also really like their japanese style egg, where they are fully cooked on the outside and the yolk is a bit runny and cooked at the same time. Not sure why other food critics were complaining about their portion and quality of food but, a bunch of my friends were all enjoying their ramen dishes and their service. We have been going back and will still be going back to have their tasty, MSG-free noodles!
Delicious! if you don't like it, your taste buds have been corrupted by too much salt. Honestly, this is my favourite ramen place. The ramen itself is okay, but the broth is amazing. It's very subtle, but delicious. I understand people write that they are not impressed, but I think it's because they are use to very salty, MSG-y, flavour-additive broth. If that's the place you typically go, or make food with tons of salt, flavouring, you will probably not like this place. At home, we don't use salt in our cooking and eat a very clean diet. Therefore, we can really taste the broth. I make my own bone marrow broth at home for soups and stews, and I know the flavour of a well cooked broth. Anyway, if you eat a lot of salt in your diet, you probably won't taste anything, so I wouldn't recommend this place to you. However, if you typically have very low salt in your diet, you will definitely appreciate the flavour profile.
