I tried a few dishes here and although nothing was bad, the only thing I would return for is the beef noodle soup. The stuffed fish ball was bland and nothing special. Also the dumplings don't have a good wrap to filling ratio. It's nice to have some authentic Taiwanese food and it's nice to have some handmade noodles, but the other dishes fell short for me. Oh and the service was pretty good.
dre: We went on a random road trip to Markham, where we ended up at First Markham Place. Mike was craving some Taiwanese Beef Noodle soup, so we ended up at Mei Nung, which is my god brother's favourite place. Actually, it's the only place we know in the GTA. Does anyone have other suggestions of Taiwanese beef noodle places to try?
This is one of my most favourite place in Toronto if you want authentic Taiwanese beef noodle soup and stinky tofu. House made noodles are always great and bowls of beef noodle come with bountiful piles of perfectly stewed meat and pickled vegetables. Restaurant is a bit small and packs up fast for lunch but turnover is quick.
Parking is a pain but expected at First Markham.

I dropped in one night for supper after remembering all the great reviews that I had read about their beef noodles. When I walked in the portable fan was on and I could smell this strong odor of soiled diapers!? Correction, it is their famous stinky tofu. It really wreaked havoc on my nose momentarily. They have soup based, mixed, and stir fried noodles on their menu. Typically, they are paired with beef, tripe or other beef tendon delicacies. My friend and I ordered their small Homestyle Beef noodles ($7.45). The noodles had a nice firm texture and the beef with veggies complimented the soup. It was very tasty and unique. They also have dumplings and beef brisket you can order on the side. Better yet, I will order their stinky fried tofu next time!
When I walked into this place, I gagged. The smell is wretched and I thought someone had thrown up right inside the entrance. Don't worry about that though, because it's just stinky tofu. My girlfriend loves stinky tofu, but the last time she had it, it was so bad that I might have broken up with her had I been more shallow.
Despite that opening, I actually loved the beef noodle soup here. It was just a small hot bowl of love. I ordered the small because I wasn't too hungry, but even the small was a fairly large size (I wonder what the large would have looked like). The broth is what separates it from most places. It's just got this wonderful aroma and was just salty enough. The beef brisket was wonderfully tender and soaks in all that broth. And speaking of soaking, those noodles are just...man, I just wish I had them at home because they would be good in anything.
The place is tiny but turnaround is quick because the meals are simple and fast. The service here is real friendly, which made me like the place that much more. If you're looking for a quick simple lunch, this is definitely the place to go.
I've been searching for a Taiwanese beef noodle shop in the GTA for a very very long time. My godmother, who is Taiwanese, told me about her favourite place here at First Markham Place a couple months ago, but I've never had the opportunity to go until recently for lunch. It is too far to trek all the kids there, and we are hardly ever in Markham. My mom got the beef brisket and tendon in a soup base. It was extremely huge! I tried a scoop of the broth and it was pretty good. I remembered in Vancouver, I had liked the lo mein version better, so I had that. I really enjoyed the texture of the noodles. I would say that's my favourite part! My dad had a Ja Jiang noodle bowl. I didn't try any. We also got a plate of lettuce with soy sauce, but that hardly got touched because our noodle bowls were so large. I was so stuffed! Too bad this place is so far. I want to take Mike here one day. Does anyone know any Taiwanese beef noodle places on the west end?
Love the beef noodle soup here, the ingredients were fresh and stinky tofus were stinky!!! So good we drive 2 hours every time to satisfy our cravings. If you are planning to eat there, make it your last stop because the smell stays with you ;)
Mei nung beef noodle house. I recommend this place for someone looking to find GOOD beef noodles, NOT the ones with bland soup, bland beef, bland noodles..
They also have smelly tofu.

This is a Taiwanese restaurant that specializes in beef noodles and also serves stinky tofu (not a lot of restaurants have it on the menu). You could smell the stinky tofu on your way in, actually.
My search for an authentic bowl of Taiwanese beef noodles led me to Mei Nung Beef Noodle House at First Markham Place. The BF and I stopped by on a Friday night with a couple of friends who also appreciated the acquired taste of stinky tofu..
