When I was in Halifax for a day, I had to have seafood by the pier, so I stopped by Salty’s. The restaurant is a bit weird because it has a formal upstairs section with a different menu and a more casual downstairs. We opted for the lower floor because it didn’t break the bank (in comparison).
Excellent service. Great food. Pleasant atmosphere. The fish was cooked perfectly and the salads were very fresh. Our waiter was knowledgeable and friendly. We'll go back for sure.
I had supper this evening at Salty's. I had a view of Halifax Harbour and watched the ferries go back and forth between Halifax and Dartmouth.
I ordered Breaded Haddock (minus the veggies). It was delicious! I don't like greasy battered fish and the breading on this was light and crunchy. I'd get it again.
Dylan was my server. He was friendly and professional.
Really good lobster and steak. Portions were small and a bit expensive.
Mussels were fresh and the sauce was excellent.
There was an upstairs and downstairs to this restaurant with different menus. This should have be explained once were greeted at the door.
Maybe the best lobster I've ever had. It was fresh and boiled to perfection. Great juicy flavour to the steamed meat it was impeccable, dropping out of the shell steaming pretty much as soon as it was cracked. I've never had lobster cooked this way before. A decent deal for a seafood at market price ($30 - $40). Salty's knows what they're doing.
A good family menu if you hit the grill, there are a lot of seafood choices available from chowders, burgers, and other seafood. Located on the waterfront it's a destination for tourists with most entrees hovering around the $20 mark. However, with a view to the water, you can't beat that view and that sunset if you're having dinner.
This restaurant just about missed my five minute rule, ie I expect a server to come around within 5 minutes of sitting down... So it took awhile for service to come around... The beer was cold, caesar was nothing special. Had the seafood chowder, which was very tasty, not too thick and lots of seafood. The lobster roll was light and also tasty. Great view of the harbour, not cheap, but the food is worth it.
On our visit to halifax we went to saltys 4 times...the food is excellent...although you are paying top price for food the scenery is great(on the patio)...the calamari and the sauce it comes with is amazing!!! The crab cakes were fantastic as was the 2 scallop dishes we tried...like I said a bit pricey but well worth it...the 4th time we were there we had a male server and he wasn't that good but the rest of the servers we had were amazing...eat here if u have a little extra $ to spend you won't regret it!
Food here was good, had crab cakes which were all crab and very fresh. Service was very good too.

Great menu choice recommendations by Curtis. 2 of us had the chowder, and we both agreed that it was probably the best we've ever had. Lots of fish and seafood in it. The scallops with risotto: perfect! And that's not easy to say! One person had the halibut and stated that it was wonderful. Be careful: the desserts are scrumptious! Beautiful view of the sea of course. Will definitely go back.
I'm not a seafood expert. I grew up on the prairies. That's my excuse. Regardless, I wasn't going to pass up on the offer from a local of a lobster dinner upstairs at Salty's. It's been years since I had lobster. My 1½ pounder did not disappoint. It was nicely cooked, all set to be taken apart and eaten. For me, there was just enough melted garlic butter; others may want more. My asparagus was fresh, pinky-finger thin and properly done. Rhubarb crumble for dessert was a fitting finish. I have to admit that, prior to my trip, I was unaware that Nova Scotia had any wineries. The local wine that we had went well with lobster. One guest had the lobster thermadore, calling it the best he'd ever had. Service was friendly and properly attentive.
It’s was the perfect day for lunch on the pier and we took at table outside. Waiter was friendly and took good care of us. We had the fresh lobster and fish and chips. The lobster wasn’t cheap at $40/lb but it was delicious and worth the splurge. The fish and chips were perfect — crispy batter and fresh, clean tasting fish. We also had their Nova Scotia wild blueberry pound cake. They had me at wild blueberry. A perfect meal on the water. Highly recommend.
Our cruise dock at Halifax. My sister likes to have steamed lobster and some fresh seafood. Salty's is not our first pick. But the ones that we tried to go were closed due to Canada Thanksgiving, and we have picked one that is close to the port. Andrew Moffatt is our server .He quickly helped us put the order in since we mentioned we need to get back to the cruise by 4 pm. Everything comes out quickly. The Lobster is perfectly cooked. All the other seafood tastes delicious .Our party has 6 people. Andrew mentioned the restaurant is short-handed cause the holiday . And he is still able to make sure we have everything that we need. Love this hard-working kid. Will go back if I'm in Halifax next time.
Lovely spot for a hearty meal right on the waterfront, with a view of the water everywhere you look. Jill was my server and she was fantastic, friendly and efficient. Everything came out in a timely manner and the main dish was piping hot. Started with the smoked salmon and then the seafood casserole - would highly recommend both, and all local ingredients quite reasonable priced!
A bit of a high class restaurant here with simply lovely staff, all very gracious and polite despite their young age who have to put up with all kind of unruly tourists complaining of everything, like hair in the food - probably it was the hair of the tourist who probably complains of everything in life.
We arrived just before lunch time, as apparently this place gets busy very fast, even after storm Lee (only a day earlier).
We had bacon wrapped scallops to share plus crab cakes for me, sea food and the seafood platter which was simply amazing.
The restaurant is located in a very touristy area with the Titanic museum nearby and more businesses further down the road selling anything from ice cream to beaver's tails, or savoury items for those on a limited budget. I am sure everything is packed in summer time.
A classic staple on the Halifax waterfront. Sally’s offers two menus. Their downstairs and upstairs, the latter being a bit more upscale. We opted for downstairs and sat outside
Steamed mussels were delicious and extra buttery. Lobster roll was okay, although coming from Quebec I would have preferred it in a traditional roll vs a croissant. It was a bit too much bread vs lobster ratio. Fish tacos were good, but again with shredded lettuce and mayo toppings, they fell a bit flat.
Shoe string fries were delicious.
The server was attentive and kind, checked on us often even though most of the tables were inside.
I would still recommend this spot especially silly those visiting from out of town to get a traditional Halifax meal and great view.
One of the best places I’ve eaten at in Halifax!! The location is amazing, right beside the water. The service was friendly and the food was delicious!! We had the lobster roll, fish and chips, chowder and fried calamari- which was smaller in size than I’ve normally eaten, but tasty. I will definitely be coming back and trying the other items on the menu!
Highly recommend. Great views of the water while enjoying delicious food. I went twice while in Halifax. I enjoyed the seafood platter and lobster. 1/2 lb of lobster is more than enough, as the lobsters have a lot of meat.

We enjoyed a lovely dinner on the lower floor. The menu was exactly what we were looking for - casual seafood.
We sat at a booth with a great view of the pier. The server was lovely, food was prompt and our meal was delicious!
We enjoyed bacon-wrapped scallops, a fresh lobster roll with salad and some halibut and fries. The portions were perfect! They have local beer on tap - we discovered Garrison’s beer (definitely worth trying!)
Parking was down the street at a paid parking garage. Only a short walk away (<1km)
The restaurant is accessible and the staff are very accommodating! This restaurant is a perfect spot for a date night.
We had a great dinner here sitting outside on the deck watching the boats go by and enjoying the sunset. The staff was extremely helpful waiting on us with four adults and two kids under two. All the food was excellent and made for wonderful experience. Highly recommend this place.
I have no constructive criticism to offer here. It was amazing! The sunny day made the outside, on the water, deck experience perfect. The fish n chips and crab cakes were the best that we've had. Started with calamari with hot dip and baked brie, equally delicious. This was the highlight of our travels ( restaurant visits)for 2023 for sure. We'll go out of our way to go back when in Halifax! Also note the squeeze bottle of delicious tartar sauce, all you want!
